Couldn't Be Happier - Exactly As Advertised!
August 13, 2016
NOTE: If picture accompanying this review is of a S&W-type pen with a removable cap, that is NOT the type of pen I purchased.Ordered from AUDIOSHARP on 22 JUL 16, arrived today, 13 AUG 16, well ahead of the 17 AUG - 02 SEP delivery window. I ordered five (and at $3.54 each, why wouldn't I?), and all five work as advertised.SHORT VERSION: These are identical to the four pens I purchased from another vendor, except these are black instead of silver-gray. At first blush, these look good too.INITIAL OBSERVATION: Be advised that there's no carbide insert glass breaker tip, which is no real surprise at this low price. Not a biggie for me as I carry a spring-loaded glass breaker as part of my standard load-out anyway.Black finish appears to be painted and not anodized. The machined flat above the four bands of knurling is unmarked.SOMEWHAT LESS SHORT VERSION: I wanted something substantial and hand-filling, and these certainly meet that requirement. Also wanted something that will not bend or break in the front chest pocket of my bib overalls when I'm doing chores in the barn or tending to the critters. Great big pocket clip holds the pen securely in place. Will advise on durability once I have some track record with these. It only takes a half turn of rotation to deploy the writing tip, and you can feel it lock into position. Several other reviewers stated that their pen 'broke' as soon as they took it apart, and I can see how they might think that.*It takes six full turns to unscrew the barrel from the cap.*Take care not to lose the small coil spring that sits in the barrel when you remove the ink cartridge. The spring may or may not come out with the cartridge. If you lose the spring, the pen won't work (ask me how I know this). Good news is that just about any standard ball-point pen spring will fit and restore function.*To reassemble, the top of the ink cartridge MUST be seated in the internal sleeve in the cap. DO NOT just drop the ink cartridge into the barrel and screw the top back on - that WILL damage it. The writing tip will start to protrude about three turns into reassembly, and may damage the pen if you continue past this point.*You can't just take it apart and throw it back together like you can with the cheap plastic gimme pens - you will break it.As far as the actual tacticalness goes - if I'm down to using this pen as a defensive weapon, that means I'm having a really bad day, as I've run out of ammo for both guns, broken all three knives, snapped the handle off the Cold Steel Special Forces Shovel, and apparently mistakenly grabbed a couple of golf balls instead the V-40s when I got up and got dressed in the morning.***UPDATE: Durability two thumbs up! Identical item purchased from another vendor and delivered on 04 APR 16 has held up just fine in daily use. It rides in the front chest pocket of my bib overalls and I make no effort to protect it or baby it as I engage in my daily farm and animal care chores. Finish has worn a little bit, but that's no surprise. It takes a beating and continues to work as advertised!
Perfect if you're constantly finding yourself in strange situations that require breaking things
May 4, 2016
This pen may not be inherently mightier than a sword, but it's far more useful in everyday life. Apart from being pretty fair at writing, it's useful for self-defense (knowledge of human nerve placement is helpful here), egress from trapped vehicles (a lot of force on a small surface is more useful in breaking a car window than a lot of force over, say, the surface of a crowbar edge), punching holes in those insanely dense plastic clamshell product packages you see everywhere these days, and any number of other things limited only by your imagination and the strength of your stabbyness. Also, I've never been denied entry to a secure area with it (it helps that it's clipped to a SICURIX(R) Pen Loop ID Neck Pouch Badge Holder, Vertical, 1 Each, Black, which holds my press pass). For subtlety in environments where potentially dangerous implements are generally frowned upon it's beaten only by Semtex-packed hollow teeth, which lack its versatility and don't appear to be available on Amazon.
Great self defense weapon, plus great pen to boot
November 19, 2015
This pen is so cool. Since reading Spy Secrets That Can Save Your Life: A Former CIA Officer Reveals Safety and Survival Techniques to Keep You and Your Family Protected by Jason Hanson, he talks about a tatical pen that can easily be carried and still be a weapon. His pen is somewhere around $35. This is somewhere about $5-10.This pen is has a really good feel when rotating the barrel to extend the writing instrument. It is easy to hold, and actually writes exceptionally. The insert must be a pretty good insert to begin with.If you don't like writing with heavy pens, then this pen won't be useful to you. It's really heavy to write with compared to all the plastic pens out there. But that's not the purpose of this pen. If you want to use this pen for self defense, it will definitely work just fine. It has robust construction, and a somewhat sharp point. The point isn't sharp enough to hurt you if you are reaching for it in a pocket or purse. But if used as a weapon, it will really inflict some pain. I already mentioned it but it is really heavy duty. It feels like a truck could roll over it and it would be just fine. For $5, just get one for each family member. I did.
SsA weapon of desperation, but a good one.
October 19, 2015
i ordered this pen because I work in a place where weapons of any kind are generally frowned upon, yet there are some spooky characters that frequent the area (and a robbery was already attempted once). Ironically the employer makes sure to tell us that, if any crisis ever occurs, we can defend ourselves with whatever is lying around. Not keen on the idea of fighting with price label printers and packaging tape, I decided to get this pen—because clearly it's just a pen, right?... Anyway, this pen is great as a weapon of desperation. I tested it by striking some trash cardboard (very thick, double-walled stuff) with hammer-style strikes (not jabs), and it absolutely shredded the material. I would not doubt at all that the impact tip (which is also a glass breaker) would be absolutely nasty to be struck with, and would penetrate, rip, break and bust. I wouldn't want to be hit with it. The pen could also be used kubaton-style with either end (since it's all-metal). Durability under attack? Well, if I'm ever attacked, I'll update the review. Till then, I can just say the pen feels solid. Writes well too, similar to a standard Bic ballpoint. I did sand down the aggressive texturing under the clip, so that it slides in and out of my shirt pocket without possibly messing up the fabric (yes, the texture is that aggressive!). That can be done with any file. It looks a little intimidating when out in the open, but when in the pocket, it really isn't that noticeable, especially if you carry more than one pen. Not heavy or obstructive. (If you gave it to someone to write with, they would probably pause and think, "Ooohhh... This is a little more than a regular pen, isn't it?") Overall, the delivery was quick, the product was what I wanted, and will stay with me all the time. When and where other weapons can't be carried, this can go with you, and help make you feel and be a little better prepared in a dangerous world. It will definitely leave a mark...
Unbeatable at this price – good quality
July 24, 2015
I ordered four of these pens from (Sold by) HoopChina US and they came in perfect working order. The Parker style cartridge writes really well and can be replaced with an original Parker cartridge or Parker Gel cartridge if you so wish. The cartridge that came with the pin is perfectly usable. I had purchased this same style pen from other sellers and they had come in defective. In one case the upper and lower half of the pain would not screw together. The pen from this seller seems to have a slightly different internal mechanism that works much better. The pen opens and retracts very smoothly. I'd highly recommend buying from this seller. The pen is heavy and made broad but fits my hand well. I happen to like a heavy pen. About six years ago I received a Benchmade tactical pen as a gift, which at that time sold for about $120. Overtime I lost the pen and find this one to be a reasonably good replacement for that. I had ordered various colors in this pen but personally like the black the best.
"RUUUNNNN.....and teach your old lady to run too so you don't have to go back for her"!!!!!!!!!
July 22, 2014
The first thing I did was disassemble to check workmanship which I think is excellent in this $ range. The pocket clip was REALLY tight on mine when it finally arrived and when I put the pen in my pocket I could hear the knurled diamond-shaped grip ripping the threads on the inside of my shirt pocket. For that reason, IMHO the design is backwards, the diamond-shaped grip should be where you grip the pen when writing. My hands and fingers tend to be a little dry and the pen slides out of my fingers. The smooth end should be at the pocket clip. The glass break point unscrews so I removed the clip and tweaked it alittle so its not so tight and tear my ocket. Some reviews mention ballpoint wouldnt retract completely. Mine does and even if it hadn't I replaced ink w/ Fisher refills which dont feed ink unless ballpoint is rolling so no wrecked shirts. Could work for defense, one quick pop to the sternum or forehead with the glass break point and like Richard Pryor said "RUUUNNNN.....and teach your old lady to run too so you don't have to go back for her"!!!!!!!!!

This pen is awesome, handy, solid, always at the ready. Well made piece of kit!
September 23, 2017
This pen is solid steel. It is heavy, but it doesn't weigh you down. I carry it in a shirt pocket of my uniform shirt. It comes with a cartridge that writes upside down or on wet paper to a degree. I'm very pleased with this pen. I've had other aluminum versions of a tactical pen before. This one is so handy because you don't have to remove the cap to use it. It functions perfectly, no trouble extending the pen tip or retracting with a click of the top button. Best made tactical pen I've owned. My wife carries a different brand that is aluminum because she says her purse is heavy enough as it is.
Great Self-Defense Pen
June 3, 2017
Seems very sturdy and the clicking feature is great. Gerber comes through again. The only weird thing is that there is a metal point for self-defense near the tip of the pen which sometimes interferes with writing.
Great pen, Not a fan of the glass breaker but easy fix..
April 9, 2017
After spending money on cheaper tactical pens that broke or were hard to use I picked up the gerber. I just wish I pulled the trigger the first time instead of wasting money on the others.. The only thing I didn't like was the glass breaker piece sticking out which interfered at times with writing since you have to rotate the pen so it's out of the way, I think you would get used to it but personally I just wanted a rugged pen that works and won't break so simple fix for that is take a pair of vice grips and 1 yank and problem solved. No more tip to get in the way.. Now it's perfect!
Great for everyday use
April 1, 2017
Arrived a few days early and in perfect condition. Excellent weight and balance, writes smoothly, and is very comfortable in the hand. It's perfect for everyday use, doesn't look like a weaponized pen so it doesn't attract attention, and the refills are easily available. Considering buying another as a spare in case I ever lose or misplace this one.
Excellent Quality.
August 16, 2016
I can see why they call it a "tactical" pen. It's very heavy because of its metal construction. Given its non-writing uses, being heavy makes sense. Just don't try to wear it in a regular civilian shirt pocket. The pen is only a fraction of an inch longer than standard ink pens. It writes well, but I don't think I would want to take a lot of notes with it, such as in a class or seminar. Nevertheless, it will be an integral part of my emergency auto gear. I just hope I don't have to test the window-breaking feature.Just to be on the safe side, if I take it on a plane flight, I will put it into my checked baggage. I'm sure any airport security agent would love to confiscate it.
Awesome writing instrument!
March 28, 2016
Peace be with you! First I want to say that I bought this not to use as a weapon but as my main pen. I work in the food service industry and everything we bring to the floor must be metal-detectable. The Zebra brand of pens are standard but are too small for my tastes and the same goes for the Cross brand of pens too. Enter the Gerber Tactical Pen! This baby is Quality Control approved, has great heft and writes as the best pen I used in all my natural memory! I use the Fisher Space Pen refill Fisher Space Pen Point Pressurized Refill, Black Bold (SPR4B) bold version, as my standard. The clicker has not failed from repeated use but as I said, I don't plan on punching out glass anytime soon! For me, this is the best rugged pen I have ever used and because of the weight and style you will get lots of comments from ppl. But be sure to get it back from them! Lastly, are two flat panels on the pen that I use for engraving. Yet again highly recommended buying the Fisher Space Refills for the price and quality. I'll give two of these as gifts to some friends in the future.UPDATE: Hats off to the pen design and the Fisher Refills. I accidently left my pen in the washing machine but it came out writing and functioning and a tad cleaner. Nice!

Cheaper than an Uzi pen, with better internals
August 23, 2017
I was once gifted an Uzi version of this pen, but purchased this one as a cost-efficient throw-away for travel involving flights. I wound up with a pen marginally nicer than the Uzi, and a fraction of the cost. The body is almost identical, some areas are very slightly different: there's no blank space where a logo/brand may appear, one portion of knurling, near the neck, is about 2mm shorter, very insignificant differences. Except for two:1) This pen takes Fisher Space Pen refills, the Uzi does not. Though the lower barrels of both pens appear identical, they're not. The Uzi pen takes a refill with a more tapered neck; the Fisher inserts do not taper as much and jam, leaving virtually no tip protruding. Quite literally, you can barely see the tip begin to be exposed, and that's it. Note that this is done with the lower barrels removed from the pen, and the inserts are both being pushed by hand as far as they'll go, without the spring in place, so it's not a matter of insert length (which is identical with Fisher's spacer) or anything, the internal is different.2) The Uzi pen retracts the cartridge tip with about 2 full rotations of the barrel. Retracting the cartridge is the same as unscrewing the body. With this pen, once assembled, it's a half turn to close, and there's a detente it stops in, before you get to the "unscrewing to the point of disassembly" level the Uzi requires.Overall, this is a nicer pen, and much cheaper. The anodizing does scratch rather easily, but otherwise, it's quite nice.
Great buy, design needs work
October 4, 2016
I disassembled and tested this pen. Mine came in black.Pros:- Excellent workmanship- Clip is tight, will not fall off your pockets- Great pice- Solid body- Practical self defense tool- Standard refills- Rubber grommet reduces metal to metal friction- Easy to use as a penCons:- Design needs improvement, handle grip on the wrong spot, clip should be smooth’ish1- Have to be careful when assembling back- Misleading title (some buyers might think they are buying 3 pens, instead of 3 PCS)All in all, this is a great buy.
A Pen and a Phone now get to work....
September 7, 2016
A pen that catches attention and demands (Nay Earns) RESPECT for the price and the sheer fact when you drop it on the table you wonder if the cheap particle board table is actually as chinsy as you now know it is. The strength to sign your Han-COCK like it should be signed and the piece of mind that This pen is mightier than the SWORD or Plastic Gun even the Car you might drive to work.I needed a Pen more Durable than the Bic cheapo others keep popping out for random scribbles.(Phalic Failure)BOWBOW.... Bling this badboy out and don't just think about the opportunity to write but also consider the Stab action ability of the Mitts holding down that piece of paper. Will it Work as a Stylus with your phone/Tablet not yet popsome sugru on it for that and a custom action Kungfu Grip. Rest assured i will be buying Another just so I can Double Fist it when I gotta sign all of those autographs that everyone will want just to see the power of the Pen in front of their face. The best Phalic investment EVER rest assured Ladies and Gentlemen that a wet tongue to this pen leads to a Glory of untold magnitude the Second it touchs down....
This is a great item for everyday use and I've been carrying it ...
August 30, 2015
I would have given a 3 but the price is so low it bumped me up a star. This is a great item for everyday use and I've been carrying it for around 3 weeks daily, everyday. The good.. It feels like it would go through a window with minimal effort so if you happened upon a car accident you might be able to assist. It's also light enough I don't notice it but it's heavy enough it put significant pressure at the point if you swing it. If you did use it in self defense I think you could do significant damage. With minimal effort I can dimple around 50-75 pages of paper. The pen works great and it's not low quality that skips. I think the weight of the pen helps apply pressure and make the writing quite nice. The bad. After just a few days use while turning the pen point I must have gone a little too far and now the pen will sometimes not retract. I admit I must have caused this but I was surprised it didn't put up much resistance. I think with a new pen refill I'll be back in working order. The clip is held in place by the striking tip, which has very lose screws. Twice while in my pocket the top and clip have unscrewed and fallen off. Lucky both times I've been able to recover them as they make a racket falling to the floor but I would suggest using locktite or similar product to add resistance. All in all I might suggest using a real Parker ink refill and adding some locktite to the striker screws but for the price this pen is pretty decent. Thanks,Eric
I'm never without mine
January 28, 2015
I had to dull the tip just a bit, as the pen was actually biting its owner when I would reach into the pocket that it rides in. It's rugged, very discreet, and effective. If I were to niggle about anything, I wish it had a roller ball point. It's a bit heavy as a pen- fine for writing a check or a grocery list, though it would be far too heavy for me to sit through a long lecture or class using this to take notes. But we all know what this really is. It's a defensive option, calling itself a pen. I carry mine every day. I wouldn't be without it.
Sturdy and a Nice Size
May 24, 2014
Overall I am pleased with the pen. I believe it will do what the manufacturer says it will do as far as self defense and breaking windows. It's very sturdy, and I expect it to last a long time. I was happy to find that it is not too big for my small hands. My only complaint is that the ink cartridge is not very good, and there is no indication of what type of refill it uses. However, when I looked back on Amazon I saw that other owners of this pen say that the Parker gel refill will work. So I'm off to get my Parker gel refill.

excellent, sturdy instrument UNTIL you need to refill
November 27, 2016
excellent, sturdy instrument - very positive pushbutton action to extend and retract - great until you need to reassemble, (like after changing the refill). not a good idea to do in poor light or without adequate workspace where you can find a dropped pocket clip or spring . The filler stuck deep inside the barrel. This required sharp, loud taps to dislodge both filler and spring which rolled into oblivion. Dropping the spring down first then attempting to lower the filler point into barrel caused the serious jam mentioned above. Instead, while keeping the filler pointing straight up, then apply spring over it, then lower the barrel over the sky-facing refill point completely. Thread it completely before inverting and letting spring fall off the filler.

The steel glass breaker always protrudes just exactly alongside the extended ball point and seems likely to rip a pocket at least as well as it may breaks glass
Locking/unlocking gets better with use
October 5, 2016
Hefty tactical pen with a sometime-stiff top push cap. Opening the cap reveals groves that guide & lock pen tip in up or down positions. Make sure your's well greased. Mine was. Locking/unlocking gets better with use. Unscrewing either ends reveal o-rings that keeps dust out of internals.

Stock ballpoint writes good on mine. Will see what kind of mileage I'd get. In all, good purchase. Hope to keep using this tac pen for a long while.
Exceptional pen overall
April 10, 2016
I purchased two of these pens, one for my husband and one for myself. I was originally going to return my pen because I dislike the 1/4" glass breaker being visible and standing out. I even went through the return process and received a shipping label from Amazon to return it. I have changed my mind. I REALLY like the body of this pen, and although I dislike the visibility of the glass breaker, the overall pen design outweighs my dislike.

Be aware of the 1/4" glass breaker being visible if you are going to order this pen, BUT keep in mind that the design, the body of the pen, and width of the pen are exceptional. As a female, I like that this pen is thinner than most tactical pens, but it has good weight and is made exceptionally well. I would recommend this pen to others.
The best USA-made military/tactical/outdoor pen that I've come across
October 16, 2015
I was looking for a quality, USA-made, tactical pen for my EDC, and this is what I settled on. There are plenty of military/tactical/outdoor pens out there, but very few are made here in the good old USA. Usually when you're thinking of a pen that checks off those boxes, you automatically think of a Fisher Space Pen, so when I found out that Gerber made one, I jumped on it. The ink refill for this pen is a Fisher refill, though, so it can write in a variety of crazy conditions. The pen itself is all metal and rock solid. I have yet to try the glass breaker, but I'm sure it works perfectly. I've heard some say that the glass breaker tip gets in the way when writing, and I'd have to agree with them. I feel it is just a bit too much pen. If Gerber could take the exact same pen but make it 75% the size, it would be perfect. So basically, if it were 1.5 inches shorter, it would be much easier to EDC. Perhaps Gerber can make an Impromptu Mini that is 75% the size and doesn't have the glass breaker. Now that would be the perfect pen!
Very substantial pen with some minor observations
February 27, 2015
I have a few S&W tactical pens and thought I'd try this one after seeing it in an article somewhere.

Pros: Feels VERY serious. It has to be close to twice the weight of my S&W pens. This is a click pen vs the S&W. Works with Fisher Space Pen Refills (e.g., SPR4).

Cons: The machining where your writing hand knuckles are can be uncomfortable after using the pen for a while. The pocket clip arm is suspended over one of the 3 equal-spaced flat machined surfaces. The gap is so significant that it won't hold the pen in your pocket if you bend over (I found out a few times the first few days). Rather than bend that arm I decided to wrap the barrel carefully with a couple revolutions of electrical tape. Problem solved so far. Lastly, the glass breaker tip is always in the out position. That took a little getting used to at first and I often do a double take when putting the pen in my pocket to make sure the writing tip isn't still sticking out instead.

Despite the length of all the Cons above, this is a superior pen and I'll probably buy more especially if different colors become available.

Good little tactical pen
February 15, 2017
Good little tactical pen. It's heavy and durable and will definitely put the hurt on someone if you go upside their head with it. I will warn you that what others have said is true: the knurling on the barrel is VERY rough and will SHRED any fabric you clip the pen to and remove it from, so be careful and don't attach this pen to any item you treasure. I'd also like it a lot better if the point at the back end were a true glass breaker, but it's just the same aluminum as the rest of the pen. Still, if you're on a tight budget and need a tactical pen this is a great place to start.
Be prepared!
January 10, 2017
Excellent pen and a great self defense item for places where guns are frowned upon. You do need to watch some training videos to use it effectively. This item claims to be a bundle of 3 pcs but only one is delivered, or I would have given more stars.
spend a little more money for a better pen mechanism.
December 15, 2016
I bought three of these because they were inexpensive and i gave a couple away. Havent had to use it to break glass, or defend myself but i have no doubt that they will do both with ease.3 stars because one of the pens, after twisting to get the ball point out, it would not retract.

November 13, 2016
It's a pen. Looks cool. Could hurt someone if you hit them with it. Only problem was, when the ink ran out, I looked everywhere for a refill in stores. The one that is suppose to go in it doesn't fit correctly. The one that comes in it is different than the part number that should fit it. You can get them on here (Amazon) but I'm not going to order refills. Other than that, a little rough on your fingers/hands from the texture. Fast shipping
I bought one of these pens on 5/16/16 and it ...
August 7, 2016
I bought one of these pens on 5/16/16 and it has worked okay so far, but the pics are somewhat misleading. There is no carbide insert in the "glass breaking" end, and the aluminum used in its construction is very soft. So soft, in fact, that tapping the glass breaking end on a steel table (like you might do while thinking about a problem) resulted in the point becoming deformed and rather flat on the end. I have serious doubts about its ability to perform successfully in its intended role.I've also discovered that my pen can not be opened up to replace the ink cartridge because the twist-off portion is seized. I can extend/retract the writing tip, but that's it. Once the ink is gone, it'll go in the trash.
Pleased with the purchase despite one issue
November 30, 2015
This is a solid, strong piece of aluminum with a fairly sharp point opposite the writing ball-point end. The texture makes for a good amount of friction when holding on that end of the shaft. When writing, however, it gets a little slick especially given that it is a little wider than a conventional pen. Overall I am glad I made this purchase, though there are several superior, more expensive tactical pens to be had.

Make sure to order refills with the pen!!
August 4, 2017
Pen functions very well as a self defence tool but as far as writing it was a total fail. Glad that I ordered the rite in rain refills which worked well when replacing the defective original cartridge in the pen.
Clip broke
July 4, 2016
*Update - a week after I gave my husband this pen for our anniversary, the clip snapped off of it. He keeps it clipped to the outer pocket of his laptop case, and as he was pulling the pen out of the pocket the clasp snapped. Now it has a jagged edge and is no longer convenient to keep with him. I'm pretty disappointed, as it seemed to be a quality pen.

*Original review - Better than expected. The pen is solid and has a good weight to it without being too heavy. It is perfect to keep as a self defense item that is discreet.
Okay but there is better value elsewhere
June 11, 2016
I wanted this pen for a while and finally took the plunge. I've had it for almost 2 years now, so I think I could give a pretty honest review. The pen itself is just very heavy. I knew that going in, but I guess I just took for granted how uncomfortable heavy use (writing) would be. I started having issues with the pen cap sticking when trying to click it. It sounded very rough so I decided to take it apart. Very important: know that there is a very small ball bearing in this pen if you ever venture to disassemble. I ended up losing the ball bearing after multiple attempts to fix the sticking issue. I contacted Gerber about it and they were very nice in responding to me that my pen had a lifetime warranty and I just needed to send the pen to them to get repaired. This was well over 6 months ago and I still haven't sent the pen in. That should tell you right there where it rates for me.
Great pen but has some sort of build defect in two out of the three I owned.
March 12, 2015
The pen itself is great. Heavy duty, sturdy, has a click mechanism so that you don't have to worry about losing the cap, feels great in your hand, works well when you use it to help form your fist and has a glass breaker tip.

This pen was my daily carry for a year but over the course of the year I had to replace it once under warranty and then I lost one of them so I had three pens during the year (obviously the latter was my fault!). So three pens in a year.. I feel like I've had a good sampling of the build quality.

My beef with the pen is this.. when you carry it daily, the paint / powder coating wears off exposing the aluminum underneath. That didn't really bother me because it showed some age and it looked like I used it all the time (which I did, somewhat). This was only my writing instrument if I didn't have anything else on me and it sat comfortably in my pocket using the clip, next to my knife... however, on the first and the third pen, the click mechanism died. On both pens, one time I clicked it out and it would never retract. I couldn't figure it out for the life of me. I disassembled the pen on both occasions and couldn't fix it. The first time, as mentioned, I swapped it under warranty. The third pen though has so much aluminum showing and I was so frustrated that it happened again that I literally took it apart and threw it away.

I'm looking for another tactical pen now but am divided on choosing a cheaper pen that will still form my fist well and be able to be used as a pressure point device or biting the bullet and getting another $40+ pen.

Decisions decisions....
great pen one major problem
January 27, 2015
Nice pen writes well and feels good in your hand the only huge draw back is the glass breaker point is at the bottom of the writing portion of the pen and when you carry it in a pocket it will rip clothing. Hugh problem for a great pen. nothing else to say but it defeats the purpose if you have an issue carrying this in your pocket or shirt and don't want to wear a pocket protector. hope this helps

Not great quality and deceptive title

Title says 3PCS...this is for one pen. Even if they are talking about how many pieces the pen is made of it is still not accurate. One of the pens I received had no point on the back of the pen. It almost looked like it was ground down...the other pen I got was sharp so I could tell a difference. I'm a little upset that this was only 1 pen and didn't see it in the questions asked about the product until after I came back to verify it did say 3PCS!

I did like it, until it fell apart into pieces after 4 months.
Deceiving
September 8, 2016
OK the pen is good but the description is very deceiving. In the picture it shows 3 pens of different colors and then in the written description it says 3 pieces. It's only one pen that is very deceptive the fact that the pen comes apart in 3 pieces should not be written as 3 pieces in the description.
It writes but..Low price, low quality: It's to be expected

Pros: writes well, fits my hand very well kn a "tactical" sense (i.e. with a defensive hold on the pen), clip is sturdy and tight.Cons: twist mech to extend and retract pen is unpredictable, glass breaker tip is one niece of billeted metal (different from photo on Amazon) and the part that holds the refill inside of the pen comes off and has to be pushed out of the barrel after a full disassembly. The pen has difficulty retracting all the way back inside the barrel. I have to twist a couple of more times more than other times just to get the pen back inside the barrel. This also ties into the refill holder coming off inside the pen and needing to be broken down and extracted if you twist the pen too much. Also, what bothers me the most is that the glass breaker tip pictured on here shows the hardened steel tip set into the aluminum cone part of the pen. This hardened steel tip is non existent on the pen I received as you can see in my photo. It's not hard to make a pen that writes (which this does) but receiving an item that has what appears to be a much lesser quality major component (glass breaker) is disappointing so I give this 2 stars. All in all this pen was cheap, I took a risk and got what it was worth. I carry it every day and may upgrade to better brand one day after I lose this one. Just hope this glass breaker works if I ever need it!
Count on Amazon

From the tactical side,5 stars. From the ink pen side,2.Will not operate.Contacted YABA and they responded by email. They said it was damaged in transit. There is no external damage. They requested photos from me so they could assess it.I contacted Amazon and as always, they resolved the issue immediately.Using the A to Z program, they are issuing a refund.Thank you Amazon, for great products,as well as great customer relations. This is business as it should be handled. You are loyal to your customers. 30SEP15
pleasantly surprised and bummed at the same time.

Overall craftsmanship feels well above average for the price. My frustration is, I need two pens for work and the two pens I ordered (at the same time) were completely different. They had were a different color and had different end caps. Doesn't sound like much, however those two differences are basically the entire exterior of the pen. Great product for the price.

Not very well thought out.
April 23, 2017
Nice heavy, very well built but not very well thought out. the only complaint I have about this pen is the glass breaker, if you are not holding the pen just rite the glass breaker gets in the way. If I can find a way to remove the breaker this pen will be 100 time better.
Mechanism sucks!
April 19, 2017
I really like this pen. It's got a nice weight. It writes wonderfully. The mechanism SUCKS!!!!! It regularly gets hung up. Drives me nuts. I've tried a spray lubricant multiple times. Helps maybe a little bit. I constantly have trouble with it locking up.
Bad Clicker Already - First Day Disappointment!
April 1, 2016
The pen clicker sticks - either open or closed - about 20% of the time. Seriously? I just received this order today. Very disappointed! The clicker mechanics of a $2.00 disposable pen are more dependable that this.

Come on Gerber - Do it right.
First Gerber product I have had that was a disappointment..
January 24, 2016
Had to replace ink refill when first received. Glass break point disappeared after about one month. First Gerber product I have had that was a disappointment..
Disappointed
July 15, 2015
I wasn't real pleased with the pen. If it functioned as intended I would've given it 4 stars. The problem I have is that the pen gets stuck in the out position and I can't get it to return. I sometimes have to disassemble it to get to go back.

DO NOT ORDER THIS PRODUCT. Took way longer to arrive than it stated (which was long to begin with) and when it arrived there was only 1 tactical pen in the package, not 3 as stated in the description.
Buyer beware! You take your chances with these cheap tactical pens
December 11, 2016
Buyer beware! Ordered 2 tactical pens from 2 different vendors and both pens were broken/non-functional. One of the pens would not extend to the writing position and would not come apart to refill ink. The other pen had an issue with the tactical point which is removable by unscrewing it, but the threads were out of tolerance to each other so the tactical point would just fall off. Both pens came straight from china and took a while to receive.
Product Stinks. No warranty. No instructions. Too difficult to change refill and not intuitive.
November 12, 2016
This product neither contains no paperwork on its operation nor warranty ...if not.... Lacking information I tried to insert cartridge for first use and the pen would not pull apart. Therefore I wrongly assumed you had to unscrew the cap portion to do so. The result broke the pen. I even tried pulling apart with pliers in my vice. using a pair of vice grips. The pen is tougher than all get-out and that is its drawback. This company can't spend 2 cents on sliver of printed paper to give you a heads up on how it works. I'm so glad Trump got elected. When he re-writes the trade deal he can require of Amazon to establish a mandatory requirement that all imports contain instructions with packaging.

Defective out of the box.
Does not screw back together.
April 15, 2015
Received the pen today and since it had no documentation with it I unscrewed the top to find out what type of refill it had. I tried screwing back the top onto the bottom and no matter how many times I tried it would not go back together. I am returning this one and looking at other designs. One of the is limitations I see with this design is that with the pointy top and narrow opening at the point you will never be covering the end with your thumb while holding it if you want to have additional leverage for defensive purposes.
not aluminum

Waste of $44!!!!!
May 25, 2017
DO NOT BUY THIS PEN! Right out of the box the clicker broke and won't stay out so you can write with it. Tried taking it apart but didn't fix the problem. Lots of other people had similar issues.
For a Gerber product very disappointed, had high hopes for the pen

Clicker on pen did not work upon receiving the product. For a Gerber product very disappointed, had high hopes for the pen.

March 4, 2016
Pen will not stay out to write, immediately when pressure is applied it returns after only a few months use, tried taking apart and back together and still does it. just worn out and not as heavy duty as it is heavy itself.
Overpriced piece of crap.
October 6, 2015
What a piece of crap, arrived unable to use as the clicker would not engage or disengage. Took it apart to see if there was anything I needed to remove to make work properly, and it looks to be defective. It will now engage and click into place, but the overall smoothness and action of such is clunky, unreliable and unpredictable. Will be returning for a replacement to see if this $35 heavy pen can meet better expectations, will change rating accordingly, as for now, very disappointed.
