Side by Side Comparison of: Duraflame vs Pleasant Hearth

I purchased this for my son in law and daughter and they really like it. I think it heats the small room very well where they have put it. It adds a cozy factor too. I have one in my back bedroom and it definitely adds cozy and heats up well, although it is a different brand.

I ordered this little "woodstove" for a small room in the house that tends to be a bit chilly in the winter. I wanted something functional and decorative - this fits the bill perfectly!

The only negative (if it's even an issue) is the heating portion of the stove is on the bottom. This version of the Duraflame stove is very compact and the box almost touched the carpet fibers. I wasn't sure if this would be a safety hazard or not. To solve this simple problem, I added two extra tiles we had left over from a bathroom re-model underneath the stove. Not only does it protect the floor from any possible heat damage, it adds to the "feel" of a real woodstove.

I love this little electric stove; I purchased mine on Warehouse deals, had some Amazon credit card points so this stove cost me little. The stove puts out a great deal of heat and a 30 by 10 foot room is easily heated. Love the pretty glow of the artificial flame and log--it adds such a nice touch, especially on cold snowy days! Highly recommend!

I bought this little stove for extra heat in my bedroom this winter, since I live in a historical cottage in the Tennessee mountains. But my main heater isn't online yet, and this morning its 47 degrees out. This is definitely taking the chill out of the air in my large, high ceilinged living room! Its small enough to fit anywhere, is easily portable from room to room,and is working really well. The "fireplace" lights are hysterically tacky, but they are growing on me. It has a blower at the base that makes minimal noise, came completely assembled, and after about the first 10 minutes, the new heater odor is completely gone. They had this model at my local Lowes for 99.00, but with shipping and everything, I got this model at Amazon for 84.00. It is well worth the price.

This is the sweetest little stove that you could ever want! It is all that it says and the "show" is great! It really is very impressive.
The quality of the workmanship is good. It heats up a room 10x15 in about 15 minutes, at which point you can turn the heat down to almost
nothing or turn it off and just leave the "flames burning". I do like the fact that it does heat quickly, it saves a lot of money in the
long run because you can turn it down or off. The odor that many spoke of when you first turn it on is minimal and burns off quickly, by the second use, there was none at all.There is a big notice on the box that there will be a slight smell when first turned on, so the manufacturer is up front about it. I can really recommend this product for the ambiance that it gives to a room and for its quick heat up of a room. I actually used this for a Christmas party, the room was chilly, I heated the room and by the time my guests did arrive, everyone commented about the adorable little stove! Since I live in an NYC apartment and have no access to a fireplace,this really does
make the place warm and friendly. A great buy at a really great price. I have seen other such products at much more and not halfway as nice.

Absolutely love this piece. The "merlot" color matches beautifully with other black furniture. The 35h x 48w x 16d (at the center curve) is very sturdy and extremely well made with even the back panel screwed in instead of nailed.Assembly took me about an hour and a half and you need to be careful not to lose any of the hardware as there are no "extras". Ignore the instructions to put the back panel on before the doors as it's much easier to attach the doors through the back. The tempered glass doors are smoke colored.There is a hole in the shelf itself to run the wires through so they can be completely invisible. I just taped some black construction paper over the precut access holes on the back panel for a total blackout effect in the shelf.Shipping was much faster than they estimated and I received both boxes in perfect condition. No damage at all.My only complaint is with the firebox itself. Although I love the size and curved front which complements the curved design of the unit, the flame effect leaves a lot to be desired In terms of "looking real" and the fan is quite loud.Bottom line - it's a great unit and I'd absolutely buy it again.

To start with I did a lot of research and comparing elec fireplaces on Amazon before finally deciding on this one. I put ratings and price aside because I really liked the front curvature and large 24" firebox, a must for me. Our handyman, who put it together in just under 2 hrs, my husband and I were highly impressed at what a beautiful piece of furniture it is. The smoked glass doors add an elegant classy touch. When I turned the fire on by the remote we were all blown away at how real the flames and burning logs look! The pictures here don't do the firebox justice at all, not even in the video, it's stunningly beautiful! We just LOVE this fireplace and have the fire "burning" every night with the lights off while watching our 42" flat screen TV that sits on top. We haven't needed to turn the heat on yet where we live in Fla but it works fine and can heat up to a 400 sq. ft area which includes our living room, dining room and kitchen. I can't praise this gorgeous fireplace highly enough. I'd give it 10 stars if I could!

Well, This television stand was a great find. What started out as browsing for a new TV stand to replace the one in our living room, became a complete first floor transformation in our home to accommodate this beautiful piece of furniture. For years I had been admiring the electric fire hearths I would see in the local home improvement stores, but felt it was an extra I didn't need. So to find this integrated into a television stand was magical. I can't wait for the holiday season so I can hang the family stockings on the front of the mantle, and place my tree next to it for a pleasant holiday scene. The forced heat option is quick and warm, and will keep the front room comfortable during the colder months. Also can run the fire without any heat for those warmer evenings. I also would like to note that when the package was first delivered there were some pieces that had been damaged, more likely due to the many steps leading to my front door, but when I called GHP they sent me replacements for no additional shipping or any costs, all I needed to provide was an e-mail of my order from Amazon with the order date, easy as pie (copy and paste). Also would like to mention the price of $350.00 (Approximately) was quite enticing as I saw other electric hearths on Amazon for a lot more money.

Enjoying my lovely media fireplace! Of course, I will enjoy it even more when it's not 90 degrees outside. Put it together myself, 55 year old female. Took all day, but I'd work on it off and on. Had fun putting it together. I love fireplaces and this is the perfect touch for my little apartment.

If you are hesitant about ordering this, put it aside. This is a GREAT purchase and looks as good as the picture depicts. Fan is quiet, can't even hear it when TV is on. Flame is very realistic. Came packed extremely well and easy to assemble. I have a 50" Samsung sitting on the mantle and it looks great! Great price right now - I gave a little more. Well worth the price.

this little fireplace and mantel work great! We've had it now for about a month and it really does a great job of warming up our living room and we couldn't ask for a better electric fireplace. It was easy to put together the fan is quiet and it puts out a lot of heat. We would recommend this to anyone!

This was a breeze to set up...just take it out of the box and plug it in. I thought I'd at least have to install the feet, but they were already in place. I plugged it in and it fired right up and put off immediate heat. I only had to leave it one for about 20 minutes to heat up my family room, which is downstairs and it is always cold. The imitation flame is a nice touch. It is very small, but the measurements were clearly defined so I wasn't taken off guard. I've only used it once, but so far, so good. I will update if I have any issues.

Has that element of faux/fake to it, but still looks okay and has a whimsical element to it. I got it for the basement. I'd probably go for something a bit higher in quality for living area/bedroom, but if this blends in with existing furnishings, would be just fine. It's easy to move around and gives a warm cozy feel when running that you can't get from a regular heater. It's when its turned off that you can see the still image of the fire that it feels more fake.

We are happy with the Duraflame Electric Stove overall and would recommend it to others. We've only purchased it since the 2015 winter season but it's holding up nicely with no issues.

The good:
1) It heats up quickly (best for a small/medium area) - not a substitute to heat your entire house
2) Despite the outside being plastic, the body doesn't get hot or overheated, so you can quickly move it to another area of the house if needed
3) It's really cute versus other tower heater options

Features to improve:
1) No timer, so it runs until you stop it
2) It's a little bit loud, but definitely not overly so - just makes a whirring sound as others have mentioned

This heater is so adorable. I live in a single wide mobile home so of course I have very little square footage. The heater/ac unit didn't work to well in heating up the rooms. So I bought this back in December to help out. Well it worked so well to heat 3/4's of the house that I used it instead of the heater for the rest of the winter. I really liked the fake flame look, it gives a cozy feeling. The light bulb rotates to give that flame rising look, but the back of my unit wasn't completely sealed so you can see the light coming out of the back. The one I got had a warped section on the inside by the fake wood, but that's no biggie. No one can see it with the cover closed. Still and all it worked well for me.

Very pleased with this purchase. The heater has to be kept on low or my bedroom overheats quickly. The fireplace effect is nice and I enjoy the flickering lights as I go to sleep. Got one for my mother for her sunroom in the winter and she loves it.

One of my best friends also purchased this on my recommendation and she loves hers as well. She lives in a 100 year old farm house and it really goes well with the architecture of the place.

Complaints: With this latest model you have to have the lights on to run the heater and the lights are NOT adjustable as with earlier models. Can be a little noisy, but not too bad. And yes, it is made with too much plastic. It would be sturdier with a slightly thicker material.

I've assembled a number of kits (both electronic and furniture) over the years, and I was duly impressed by this one.First off, the cabinet is packaged with at least 1/2" of Styrofoam on all sides. It's heavy enough that one edge of the carton had been dented in transit, but the Styrofoam absorbed the damage and the panels within were intact.I was impressed by both the fastening method and the accuracy of the pre-drilled holes in the various components. The parts were well organized, the instructions were adequate, and I completed the assembly with one excess screw and no shortages.I had only one problem, which I hope will be fixed in future revisions of the kit. Panel C, which is the bottom of the component shelf above the fireplace insert, has a pair of stapled-on tabs at the rear, to which the lower rear panels attach. One had been bent off during packaging, and the other was misaligned; I was forced to reinstall both of them using my own materials.With that exception, I am well pleased with this product.

Over all I love he way it looks and how convenient is for my home, since is perfect fit for the space I had. 4 stars becouse putting it together I got a sense that the item is unstable and cheaply made. I had to have a lot of patience and be really careful at the time of bolting parts together becouse pressed wood doesn't do so well with bolts and tend to not tighten. But at the end when all parts are on feels strong and good looking in my opinion.

Beautiful and functional! We got this product in December and have had it for 4 months now. We have been very pleased with it. The fire comes with three different brightness settings. The heater works really well and can be adjusted from 68 degrees up to 88 degrees going up 2 degrees at a time. Upon arrival of the fireplace we were a little disappointed to find a couple of pieces chipped and one piece that didn't fit in as snugly as we would have liked. That is why we give it a 4 star. Other than that it is very beautiful and is a great addition to our room!

I bought this Hearth because I liked its styling, price and of course the fireplace.First - There are a lot of pieces (some will probably arrive broken because it is shipped from China) I kinda expected this and had glue and a few clamps available. Also I had a black and brown sharpie to cover some of the scrapes. It wasn't horrible but I did end up with one piece in the front completely broken and a few more that needed regluing and a bit of finish nailing. I took me about two.5 hours to assemble it. I do hate that Chinese Styrofoam, it seems to get everywhere.Second - Make sure you have a cordless screwdriver or this will take forever to put together. The instructions were helpful.Third - the fireplace looks pretty good. Yeah, it's probably a tiny bit on the tacky side but I like it. Plus it has three separate adjustments on flame brightness.I have had it in my condo for a month or two and I really like it, it's sturdy, fashionable and the heater works pretty well too,Would I buy it again - absolutely!

The fireplace is very pretty.I was surprised that I was unable to contact the seller to let them know that the frame was attached incorrectly. There is a metal three sided frame bordering the front of the heater that has screw holes on the left and right sides where the heater is supposed to be secured from the front. I could not slide the heater in through the front because the frame on my heater was attached on the back so I had to slide the heater in through the back and leave it unsecured. Fortunately, the heater is heavy so I don't expect it to slide out. For anyone wanting to order this item you are in luck. Statistically speaking someone will get a defective item and in this case that person was me.The storage area is great. The top area is large enough to hold everything from my VHS player to my PS3 and the side compartments hold my game books, instruction manual, and device accessories.Putting the fireplace together took a bit of effort and I would recommend investing in or borrowing an electric screw driver. Overall I am very happy with the product. Here's hoping that it still works when I need it this winter.

It took a little over 3.5 hours to put together. I highly suggest the door hinges should come pre-installed that took the longest. The unit warms my living room very quickly. Not giving it 5 stars because of the door hinges.

Noisy little heater. With just the flames, it makes a rhythmic racket like a distant woodpecker. When you turn on the heater, it sounds like a vacuum. Much louder than expected. But it puts out some heat.

I purchased this heater after admiring my close friend's heater for several months. It always worked extremely well and was adorable. After using it a month as recommended by the manufacturer's instructions, the flame stopped working. I sucked it up knowing it's still nice and it heats my room. However today, just 2 months, it doesn't work at all except to light up (without the animated flame visuals of course).

That being said, my friend has had hers well over a year and it is working perfectly. I'm repurchased as I'm sure it's a one off situation.

This keeps popping my circuit breakers. Need to do further research to figure out what the problem is. Didn't notice any odor and the fan doesn't bother me. The "flame effect is a little cheesy, but hey my dog likes to sleep in front of it.

Nice for heating small areas. The look creates a bit of a cozy feeling. Be aware, however; this is an electric heater. It will increase your electric bill considerably if used much. I watched my meter dial spin around the moment I turned it on. The concept of decreasing your home heating costs by using this where you spend most of your time is only true if you heat your home with electric. If you have a gas furnace, you're probably better to leave it on and have the whole house heated for probably the same cost. Because it's electric heat, it's also drying to the air. I use it only when bitter cold, and then turn it off as soon as I'm able. For what it's supposed to do, it's fine. Just realize electric heat is very expensive.

As soon as I opened the package I noted one of the plastic legs broken. Next, the door was off its hinge and I was unable to pop it back in. The unit looks attractive in the picture, however in real life it leaves you wanting for better quality. I am not sure how long the units life expectancy is, but it does put out a fair amount of heat. Nothing too strong, but enough to warm a small to medium size room. The actual blower sits very close to the floor, so I would not recommend to people with thick carpets just in case of emergency. The bottom is not hot to the touch so It would be safe enough.

All in all its a decent little unit, but I would probably go with an Infrared Heater that uses less wattage and covers a greater area and one that has a more sturdy exterior. Also the price dropped immediately after purchasing the item. Amazon agreed to refund me the price difference. :)

We love the fireplace, but it is a little loud. Wish it was quoted, if you have a headache it may bother you. Beautiful otherwise. A little bit of a headache to put the cabinet together.

While it is a beautiful piece, when we received the package there were 2 broken pieces. There were also multiple dings along other pieces and parts of the brown finishing chipping off. Besides this, which was disheartening, it was easy to put together and the brackets provided make the piece very sturdy.

This is very difficult to assemble and when we were almost done we found one front corner of the top was chipped & didn't want to take it apart to return. It does the job of holding the TV and holding an electric fireplace. The color is way too dark.

I like the fireplace, however the cabinet arrived damaged in multiple spots on the wood. It also had some broken pieces that my husband had to fix. I was very disappointed when it arrived and not sure how to get some money off or a new cabinet.

My tv stand came days after my fireplace when it came it was damaged I assume from shipping I thought it was real wood but it's not problems putting it together because they messed up places the screw holes should've been but it is beautiful and I love how it looks very realistic heats up we'll and it's quit!

This is a great heater and the display is very nice. However, the dial control is basically worthless. Yes, it turns the heat on and off... whenever it wants no matter the ambient temperature. On a nice day, it will randomly turn itself on at 75 and on chilly days it will cut off at 62. I got it to use it as a wood stove back up but it requires manual operation too.

Two months of use, display is inoperable.

It was great in the beginning, for the first week maybe two. Then all the sudden I have it cranked up and doesn't put out any heat. I could put my hand directly on the bottom and it just keeps my hands warm. I have a 20 square foot room and it doesn't heat for crap!!!!

It's cute but I didn't find it functional at all. I had to sit really close to feel the heat. The air only blew from the bottom, so it only warmed mostly your feet. Sometimes the air coming out wasn't warm at all. And I received a high electric bill afterwards. Had to return it.

So far this stove is a bit of a bummer. I like that it's small and lightweight. Also, for an electric it's pretty quiet (it hums on high but not loudly like some fan/ceramic heaters). However, it doesn't actually seem to heat up the space. I'm using it in a reception room that's pretty small, maybe ~250sq ft. It's rated for 400sq ft. Yet, on high it barely takes the chill out of the room. It seems to only produce heat under the unit, so a good amount of the heat is absorbed by the unit itself (which remains cool to the touch). I can slide my feet underneath and it makes a good foot warmer, but not for the whole room. The fireplace effect is pretty, despite it being obviously fake, but with the price-point I really don't care that it doesn't look fancy. I have a feeling I'll be having to replace this guy since I'm running it continuously on high and my clients are still describing the reception area as chilly.

Bought this during fall (November 2013) thought it would make a great addition to our bedroom so we don't have to heat the entire house (since it's just the two of us and the furkids)- It did, for 3 months...THREE MONTHS!!!!!!! The screen portion with the flame still works but the heater...Nope. Won't turn on. I'm writing a very strongly worded letter to the company and Amazon! Paid decent money for this heater to just stop working after a few months. 5 Stars for 3 months.

Great buy if your looking for a beautiful electric fireplace. Beautiful appearance, lifelike fire in the firebox which appears to be brick lined. But if your looking for heat also, keep looking. We live in central Florida near the coast, and this can't keep a Mackle house warm. Mackle homes are iconic to Florida, far too easy to cool or heat. The thermostat on this fireplace has to be run to the top in a house with temps in the mid '60s. It won't stay on, will not come back on. We have a much smaller electric fireplace in our Florida room that heats the house. Though its appearance is so very nice, had we known the heating issues we would not have purchased this model.

We are just now unpacking ours and have already found several damaged pieces. Not happy!

RECEIVED MY MEDIA FIREPLACE TODAY. LOVE THE INSERT BUT I HAVE FOUR BROKEN PIECES. MEDIA CENTER SHELF COMPLETELY BROKE IN HALF AND MANTLE TOP WITH LEFT AND RIGHT TRIM BROKEN. THE CABINET WOULD HAVE BEEN FINE BUT THIS IS HORRIBLE. HOPE I CAN GET SOMETHING REPLACED WITHOUT PROBLEMS AND DELAYS. DO NOT UNDERSTAND HOW THIS WAS DONE.

I am so extremely disappointed in this product. I should have known better than to order something this expensive and important to the decor in my sunroom! I shopped for a long time..looking online at many sites before deciding on this one. Let me say this: the item itself is very attractive and definitely meets the needs. However, the COLOR stated in the description is 'BROWN'..which is what I was looking for. THIS IS NOT BROWN..IT IS CHERRY OR MERLOT OR ANY OTHER COLOR ONE CAN THINK OF THAT IS EXTREMELY DARK! IF I had wanted something this dark I would have ordered the BLACK! I am so disappointed and disgusted! To think I looked at so many only to purchase this from trusted Amazon and end up being 'stuck' with an item I absolutely hate! Amazon..you let me down!!

missing the door handle,the shelf holder and several screw.....disappointed

Product arrived late with a damaged door hinge (it was popped out of the hole). Due to the way the hole and post are designed and molded, there's no way to pop it back into place without significant screwdriver work, which I'm not comfortable doing on a space heater. Filed for a return the same day I received it.

Arrived yesterday and I was excited to use it. As soon as I turned the flame effect on with no heat, I noticed the never ending cracking/rotaing sound. Even with the heater on, I hear it and bothers the heck out of me. It's going back today.

This is terrible doesn't heat a 200 sf room cheap plastic and they won't take it back

Purchased two of the 550 duralflame over 3 years ago and they work fine. This one doesn't seem to have enough of heat blowing out . The 450 I guess isn't big enough for the 400 square foot area I am using it in. One of my 550 does have a loud noise when the blower is on, been like that for over a year but it still heats good.

Cheesy plastic stove with a loud fan; there is nothing realistic about this and it produces little heat. I sent it back

Junk. Broke after 11 months. Under warranty, they sent a part, spent an hour installing it, still broken. Avoid like the plague.

Not very happy!!! After only a few days the flames in the insert are freezing up. Looks unreal and crappy!

We kept this solely because it would be a royal pain in the rear to return, as it would need to be disassembled and it comes as two boxes nearly a hundred pounds and forty pounds. It does heat, but the thermostat does not work. Once it kicks off, it does not kick back on unless you turn it off and back on. If you set it for 74°, it wilk not ever kick back on of its own volition, even when the room gets down to 62°! Also, one piece, a very prominent piece arrived busted. There was no damage to the box, so it was packed broken. DO NOT BUY UNLESS YOU DO NOT CARE ABOUT APPEARANCE OR FUNCTIONALITY!!!

We received our item completely damage. Several pieces where broken and badly scratched. I have to returned the whole thing which is going to be difficult since the boxes are so big. Really disappointed

It is garbage!! Several pieces arrived damaged. I even requested a replacement and the second one was even more damaged than the first one. Don't waste your time!!
