Five Star Reviews: | 59% Electric Fireplace November 17, 2016 I purchased this for my son in law and daughter and they really like it. I think it heats the small room very well where they have put it. It adds a cozy factor too. I have one in my back bedroom and it definitely adds cozy and heats up well, although it is a different brand. Cute and functional little "woodstove"! March 7, 2016 I ordered this little "woodstove" for a small room in the house that tends to be a bit chilly in the winter. I wanted something functional and decorative - this fits the bill perfectly! The only negative (if it's even an issue) is the heating portion of the stove is on the bottom. This version of the Duraflame stove is very compact and the box almost touched the carpet fibers. I wasn't sure if this would be a safety hazard or not. To solve this simple problem, I added two extra tiles we had left over from a bathroom re-model underneath the stove. Not only does it protect the floor from any possible heat damage, it adds to the "feel" of a real woodstove. I love this little electric stove January 24, 2016 I love this little electric stove; I purchased mine on Warehouse deals, had some Amazon credit card points so this stove cost me little. The stove puts out a great deal of heat and a 30 by 10 foot room is easily heated. Love the pretty glow of the artificial flame and log--it adds such a nice touch, especially on cold snowy days! Highly recommend! Much better than expected! October 4, 2014 I bought this little stove for extra heat in my bedroom this winter, since I live in a historical cottage in the Tennessee mountains. But my main heater isn't online yet, and this morning its 47 degrees out. This is definitely taking the chill out of the air in my large, high ceilinged living room! Its small enough to fit anywhere, is easily portable from room to room,and is working really well. The "fireplace" lights are hysterically tacky, but they are growing on me. It has a blower at the base that makes minimal noise, came completely assembled, and after about the first 10 minutes, the new heater odor is completely gone. They had this model at my local Lowes for 99.00, but with shipping and everything, I got this model at Amazon for 84.00. It is well worth the price. A warm and friendly little stove December 14, 2011 This is the sweetest little stove that you could ever want! It is all that it says and the "show" is great! It really is very impressive. The quality of the workmanship is good. It heats up a room 10x15 in about 15 minutes, at which point you can turn the heat down to almost nothing or turn it off and just leave the "flames burning". I do like the fact that it does heat quickly, it saves a lot of money in the long run because you can turn it down or off. The odor that many spoke of when you first turn it on is minimal and burns off quickly, by the second use, there was none at all.There is a big notice on the box that there will be a slight smell when first turned on, so the manufacturer is up front about it. I can really recommend this product for the ambiance that it gives to a room and for its quick heat up of a room. I actually used this for a Christmas party, the room was chilly, I heated the room and by the time my guests did arrive, everyone commented about the adorable little stove! Rather than converting my beautiful old stone fireplace to gas, I put placed this stove in front of the opening and use it on cool evenings to help warm up my living space. I have a Dimplex CS33116A Compact Electric Stove Dimplex CS33116A Compact Electric Stove in each room in my home with a Lux WIN100 Heating & Cooling Programmable Outlet Thermostat plug-in thermostat to control each separate room as in zone heating. Works just fine during our NY winters for many years now. My electric bills are reasonable from using the electric heaters instead of the gas furnace, and the electric heaters are much quieter. I wanted to test out one of this new quartz heaters for future replacement use as needed. I ran a test of the new heater today, and used my Kill-A-Watt meter to test the wattage used. The video shows the readings. Ranges from around 1,370 + or - WATTS while heater was running in full mode on, and only 4 watts used for just flame look. The temperature you desire is only set from the heater's front panel not the remote, but the remote does do alot. Set the desired temp, and it stays till you manually change it again.** USA: Keep in mind your electric circuit most likely is controlled by a 15 AMP CIRCUIT BREAKER and that circuit is running 120 VOLTS A/C [Alternating Current] so THAT circuit is rated at a total of 1,800 WATTS. ** Looks like a Duraflame winner in this new model. November 6, 2016 Honestly, I didnt buy from Amazon. I bought mine from a shopping network because they have it in several different colors and I wanted Bronze... It's so pretty! I thought I'd at least have to install the feet, but they were already in place. I plugged it in and it fired right up and put off immediate heat. I only had to leave it one for about 20 minutes to heat up my family room, which is downstairs and it is always cold. The imitation flame is a nice touch. We've only purchased it since the 2015 winter season but it's holding up nicely with no issues. The good: 1) It heats up quickly (best for a small/medium area) - not a substitute to heat your entire house 2) Despite the outside being plastic, the body doesn't get hot or overheated, so you can quickly move it to another area of the house if needed 3) It's really cute versus other tower heater options Features to improve: 1) No timer, so it runs until you stop it 2) It's a little bit loud, but definitely not overly so - just makes a whirring sound as others have mentioned Adorable Little Heater May 12, 2015 This heater is so adorable. I live in a single wide mobile home so of course I have very little square footage. The heater/ac unit didn't work to well in heating up the rooms. So I bought this back in December to help out. Well it worked so well to heat 3/4's of the house that I used it instead of the heater for the rest of the winter. I really liked the fake flame look, it gives a cozy feeling. The light bulb rotates to give that flame rising look, but the back of my unit wasn't completely sealed so you can see the light coming out of the back. The one I got had a warped section on the inside by the fake wood, but that's no biggie. No one can see it with the cover closed. Still and all it worked well for me. Needed space heating and wanted a light show. January 17, 2014 Very pleased with this purchase. The heater has to be kept on low or my bedroom overheats quickly. The fireplace effect is nice and I enjoy the flickering lights as I go to sleep. Got one for my mother for her sunroom in the winter and she loves it. One of my best friends also purchased this on my recommendation and she loves hers as well. She lives in a 100 year old farm house and it really goes well with the architecture of the place. Complaints: With this latest model you have to have the lights on to run the heater and the lights are NOT adjustable as with earlier models. Can be a little noisy, but not too bad. We agree with all the other reviewers who highlighted problems with the remote and controls. The remote works but it's pretty useless. You can't adjust the temperature with it, and we never adjust the flame, so the only function left is on/off. Love that the controls on the faceplate are hidden behind the door, but they are very hard to see. We were having to get down on our hands and knees to see them, so I decided to put a little adhesive-backed button on the temp control so we could easily find it by feel. These are the tiny plastic round things that you can put on your cabinet doors to keep them from banging shut, very inexpensive on a sheet at Home Depot or similar. The manufacturer should include a few with the heater! Or better yet, fix the controls so you can see/ feel them.The heater works great, we set a temp and it cycles the heat and fan on and off as necessary, and agrees with an externsk thermostat we have in the room. The timer Works but we don't use it. We use the heater as a supplement for our wood stove, when it isn't cold enough to start a fire but chilly enough to need heat. So far it's done the job nicely. The fan is quiet and the flames are about as realistic as I've found. Would purchase again, but hope they do something to make the controls easier to see. Very realistic flames. February 24, 2017 Great little fireplace. Heats a small space without drying out the air. The flames, logs, and ashes are amazingly realistic. It really adds a nice element to a room - gives it movement and energy.The remote is superb. I can actually point it at the fireplace from another room to turn it off and on.My only real criticism is this: I wanted an electric fireplace for the ambient lighting. I imagined, before purchasing this fireplace, a warm glow engulfing the room, much like a real fireplace. But this fireplace does not offer any type of ambient lighting. All the light is contained within the confines of the actual unit. Now, I'm not that familiar with electric fireplaces, so that may be true for ALL electric fireplaces, but I just wanted to put that out there. Do not expect a warm glow from this fireplace to fill your room. Functional & Very Realistic January 9, 2017 Very nice unit! I deducted one star only because the remote should have better controls and the controls on the unit itself are not backlit. The remote will adjust levels of the fire but will only turn the heat on or off not adjust temperature, It can also set a timer. The controls are at the bottom hidden behind the door and because they are not backlit you need lights on or a flashlight to see them to adjust. You also can't really see them when adjusting with the remote so need the door open for the timer. I never really use the timer function myself so cannot comment much on that.Functionally it heats great like my other infrared heater and looks very realistic like a real fire. The light adjustments for the fire are cool too, allowing you to adjust different levels of flames.Structurally it is very solid with a sheet metal housing (I think probably layered over a structure because it feels quite solid) and beveled glass. It hasPlastic legs but they are secured with 3 screws each and very sturdy. There is nothing cheap of flimsy about it. A Video of the Flame Effects December 18, 2016 All these reviews telling you how great the flame effects are, and nobody bothered to post a video. So here you go.I really like this unit, but I had to drop one star. The controls on the fireplace itself are recessed and black. They are impossible to see in a dimmed area. This is important, because you cannot shut the heater off using the remote. You need to depress the power button on the fireplace for 10 seconds if you wish to use flames only. Good luck finding it.I live in South Florida. Yes, believe it or not, some of the winter nights here can get quite cold. I think this little heater will do just the trick to take the chill off. I don't buy the 1,000 sq. ft. claim. Keep in mind, when you plug into a regular 110/120 volt outlet (standard house outlets), the most heat you'll get is 5,000 to 5,500 BTU. (For comparison, a kerosene heater can make up to 25,000 BTU.) So, it makes no difference if your electric heater is 20-inches high, or 6-foot in size. Size doesn't matter, volts do. And 110 volts will only get you 5,500 max BTU's no matter what you do, period!With that said, don't look to use this heater as a main source of heat (Unless you live in a warm climate to begin with). 5,000 watts will not bring a house to a pleasant 74-degrees if the outside ambient temperature is like 30-degrees! Instead, look to use this heater as a supplement to your main heating system to keep your home (or medium room) a bit more comfortable. Nearly perfect. Three Star Reviews: | 10% Much louder than expected March 5, 2017 Noisy little heater. With just the flames, it makes a rhythmic racket like a distant woodpecker. When you turn on the heater, it sounds like a vacuum. Much louder than expected. But it puts out some heat. Mine sucked. My friend's is perfect. April 8, 2016 I purchased this heater after admiring my close friend's heater for several months. It always worked extremely well and was adorable. After using it a month as recommended by the manufacturer's instructions, the flame stopped working. I sucked it up knowing it's still nice and it heats my room. However today, just 2 months, it doesn't work at all except to light up (without the animated flame visuals of course). That being said, my friend has had hers well over a year and it is working perfectly. I'm repurchased as I'm sure it's a one off situation. This keeps popping my circuit breakers. Need to do ... The look creates a bit of a cozy feeling. Be aware, however; this is an electric heater. It will increase your electric bill considerably if used much. I watched my meter dial spin around the moment I turned it on. The concept of decreasing your home heating costs by using this where you spend most of your time is only true if you heat your home with electric. If you have a gas furnace, you're probably better to leave it on and have the whole house heated for probably the same cost. Because it's electric heat, it's also drying to the air. I use it only when bitter cold, and then turn it off as soon as I'm able. For what it's supposed to do, it's fine. Just realize electric heat is very expensive. All plastic case - looks good in a dark room December 13, 2013 As soon as I opened the package I noted one of the plastic legs broken. Next, the door was off its hinge and I was unable to pop it back in. The unit looks attractive in the picture, however in real life it leaves you wanting for better quality. I am not sure how long the units life expectancy is, but it does put out a fair amount of heat. Nothing too strong, but enough to warm a small to medium size room. The actual blower sits very close to the floor, so I would not recommend to people with thick carpets just in case of emergency. The bottom is not hot to the touch so It would be safe enough. All in all its a decent little unit, but I would probably go with an Infrared Heater that uses less wattage and covers a greater area and one that has a more sturdy exterior. Pretty effect, but not super warm February 18, 2017 As far as the ambience goes, I'd give this 5 stars. For an electric fireplace, the flame effect is pretty realistic. Assembly was a breeze, and the look of the unit is good too.My biggest gripe is with the heating power. This unit is rated for over 1,000 square feet. We keep our central heat set to about 60 degrees and use this for supplemental heating in our living room, which is about 250 square feet and we still have to use blankets. If the thermostat is set to 70, the unit pretty much never cuts off if its colder than 60 outside. We had a ceramic heater that heated far more effectively, but was ugly and used more energy. The infra-red heating, while underwhelming, does seem to be pretty efficient.Pros: Pretty flame effect, good cabinet quality, easy to assemble, efficient, controls are easy to use, remoteCons: A little noisier than I'd like, underwhelming (bordering on poor) ability to heat a room so far so good have only had the item for a week January 17, 2017 so far so good have only had the item for a week Many good things about this heater, but frustrating flaws! December 14, 2016 PROS:- The overall aesthetic is great--looks like a very sturdy metal/cast iron stove while actually being fairly light weight and easy to move around.- The flame effect is pretty good, although it's not as impressive from the side as you would hope for the "3D" marketing.- Most importantly, this thing cranks out heat efficiently.CONS:- LOUD! The heater element is distractingly loud. If you're looking to set the mood or watch a movie, be ready to do it near a jet engine.- The top gets very warm.- The remote is too basic. Every other fireplace in the same price range at least had a small screen to indicate the settings and, most importantly, temperature being set. This remote just has main on/off, flame level, heater on/off (NO OPTION to change the manually set temp) and, Timer.- The LCD readout is hidden behind the door! So if you are using the underwhelming remote, there is no way to know the temperature, or what the timer is actually going to get set for.- The door handle is cheaply constructed. Broke right off the second I touched it. Two Star Reviews: | 6% This is a great heater and the display is very nice December 28, 2016 This is a great heater and the display is very nice. However, the dial control is basically worthless. Yes, it turns the heat on and off... whenever it wants no matter the ambient temperature. On a nice day, it will randomly turn itself on at 75 and on chilly days it will cut off at 62. I got it to use it as a wood stove back up but it requires manual operation too. Two months of use, display is inoperable. Terribble!!! January 6, 2016 It was great in the beginning, for the first week maybe two. Then all the sudden I have it cranked up and doesn't put out any heat. I could put my hand directly on the bottom and it just keeps my hands warm. I have a 20 square foot room and it doesn't heat for crap!!!! It's cute but I didn't find it functional at all ... July 29, 2015 It's cute but I didn't find it functional at all. I had to sit really close to feel the heat. The air only blew from the bottom, so it only warmed mostly your feet. Sometimes the air coming out wasn't warm at all. And I received a high electric bill afterwards. Had to return it. Pretty, But Not Much Warmth December 5, 2014 So far this stove is a bit of a bummer. I like that it's small and lightweight. Also, for an electric it's pretty quiet (it hums on high but not loudly like some fan/ceramic heaters). However, it doesn't actually seem to heat up the space. I'm using it in a reception room that's pretty small, maybe ~250sq ft. It's rated for 400sq ft. Yet, on high it barely takes the chill out of the room. It seems to only produce heat under the unit, so a good amount of the heat is absorbed by the unit itself (which remains cool to the touch). I can slide my feet underneath and it makes a good foot warmer, but not for the whole room. The fireplace effect is pretty, despite it being obviously fake, but with the price-point I really don't care that it doesn't look fancy. I have a feeling I'll be having to replace this guy since I'm running it continuously on high and my clients are still describing the reception area as chilly. So upsetting! March 11, 2014 Bought this during fall (November 2013) thought it would make a great addition to our bedroom so we don't have to heat the entire house (since it's just the two of us and the furkids)- It did, for 3 months...THREE MONTHS!!!!!!! For years I've been using a little spot heater for my home office, it's quiet and effective. I wanted to kinda upgrade to something that's looks a little nicer so I picked up the twin brother of this unit called Infragen at SAMs Club (both have the same exact features and are made by the same company) and that's when the trouble started. First one I brought home, the effect motor made a plastic clicking sound. An online chat rep says it was the motor so I returned it the next day and brought another unit home. Thankfully no noise but here's what I've learned; no way this unit is heating 1000sq ft. I keep my house at 65 and wanted this to bump my 189 sq ft office to 72 or so. Even after 45 minutes it simply wasn't happening. The blower fan is noisy and the air whistles going through, ugh. Like another reviewer mentioned, the control indicators are hidden behind the door so using the remote is simply guesswork. It should have come with felt feet cushions but didn't, I had some in a drawer so that worked out.On the good side, the fire effect looks nice and there are some good safety features but in the end it really fails its primary function miserably.I'm going to give it a couple weeks and see. I Don't know if the one I received was just defective or whether the color of the flame has been misrepresented but... the flame on my unit looked very yellow and almost green. I bought this 2 months ago, it's stopped working after a month. So I called to the Twin-Star customer service, and they said they will send a replacement part (what?), I need to assemble it myself (what???). So anyway it took a month to get through this transaction and finally received the part (the part name is a heater/blower assembly.), and I opened the cover after screwed out all, disconnect all wires, and I found the main circuit board is burnt. The heater/blower part seems so fine, it was not the problem. They didn't send me this main board... gosh. Fun part, it seems really some dangerous electrical complicated parts, they want me to fix this myself, and even didn't send me the correct part. I even can't refund this anymore via Amazon, because contacting wit them and getting the part took more than a month! I will refund this item directly with Twin-Star. This is so much unreliable product ever. You think it works find now, lets see. it will stop work a year later, then you even cannot get warranty anymore. Design flaw? March 5, 2017 I bought this and it's replacement because of its reviews. Both units failed the same way: power cuts off after several minutes suggesting a design flaw. Instead of requesting a new unit I decided to contact the manufacturer to obtain whatever part has failed. Its been a couple of weeks and still no solution to the problem. They have a very strange customer service meaning....you call them or go to their website and get a request number. They will....or are supposed to call/write back within 48 WORKING HOURS. DUH THATS 6 DAYS!!!!! IF YOU CALL THEM BACK TO FIND OUT WHAT HAPPENED TO AN ANSWER THAT PUTS YOU ON A FRESH 48 WORKING HOURS!!!!!! REALLY????? SO 6 MORE DAYS BEFORE I MIGHT HEAR FROM THEM????? I understand that things can and will break but don't understand this type of customer service. It is a nice looking unit and a more realistic flame and the heater was nice for the few days it worked but Twin Star customer service is trash.
