I'm a believer in the $35-$40 vacuum that works like a trooper for five years - then you get a new one and put the old one in the garage until it dies. I just don't think you can do any better than these little Dirt Devils - tools onboard, bagless, and powerful enough to collect the cat hair from bedroom carpeting. I should offer the caveat that I have tile floors in about 75% of my house, so my vacuum only needs to be used in the bedrooms and on one area rug - I guess if you have wall-to-wall carpet in a large area, you might want something more, but this little vacuum does a splendid job.
Great at home and in the RV
July 6, 2016
Great little vacuum for a good value! I have used this at home and in my RV several times since purchasing it. I am always surprised how much dirt it picks up and holds in the canister. I found the canister to be easy to remove, empty, and even clean. There is also a filter right inside and it appears as if it will be easy to change (although I have not had to try that yet). I saw in other reviews that there might be issues with the blower location sending dirt in front of the vacuum, but I have not experienced that problem. The sucking power is great, having even picked up pea-sized gravel inside my RV. I have also used it on the RV furniture and the bare floors with good results. I have not used the attachment more than a once or twice since the vacuum gets down under shelving and other obstacles well. This vacuum is relatively light and has a good length of cord. I noticed that the cord does not seem to get warm when running it for long periods of time. I would definitely buy this vacuum again – in fact I might get a second one just to keep in my RV since it takes up just a little bit of space.
Fantastic
July 11, 2013
I love this vacuum. I had the one without attachments before this one (bought it without attachments by accident) and I got a really high pitched whine that drove me crazy and not having the attachments was really annoying so after a couple years I bought this one. Awesome sucking power, the attachments are great, love the easy to clean canister and I can't believe the stuff it picks up! My only complaint really is that this one kinda of has that high pitched whine too- not nearly as bad as the other- and the attachment hose is not nearly long enough. The best way I've found to use it is to hold the vacuum by the handle on top of the canister and then use the hose. You cannot use the attachments without pulling the vacuum or knocking it over unless you're trying to suck up something 6 inches in front of it. Granted it's a small vacuum and so it's not meant to have a long hose like a full size one but it's rather annoying.
Sucks
March 1, 2013
My house has gone unvacuumed for a matter of months due to my crappy little bissel and its inability to suck anything up. I had more luck cleaning my carpet with a broom and dustpan. That is.. until my ONLY FIFTY DOLLAR!?!? dirt devil arrived.I admit that I am highly cheap, especially when it comes to household appliances, as I would rather spend my money on things that are fun. I wasn't expecting much from a fifty dollar vacuum, but I must say I am blown away. The suction on this thing is POWERFUL. As you can imagine, my floor was pretty dirty, having gone unvacuumed for so long, but this thing sucked up every little particle of dirt in its path. I also have a cat, and was amazed at the amount of cat hair this sucked up that I couldn't even tell was there. Also, cleaning out the dirt devil was quick and easy. Didn't even need the directions.Only thing that I don't like about this vacuum is that it is extremely loud, but I will live with that for the great suction. Also, I read reviews for this product that say the cord is short; I don't know what length of cord these consumers are used to, but I found the cord almost too long. I vacuumed my bedroom while plugged in in my kitchen, although I do have a smallish apartment, so maybe the cord would be short for bigger houses? I don't know, but I didn't see that as a problem.Overall, as far as my experience with vacuum cleaners go, this is a great one for the money. My aforementioned crappy bissell cost me 25 dollars, and I wish I had just gotten over my frugality back then and sprung for this one initially.
Small and powerful
October 11, 2011
I was looking for a small, powerful and inexpensive vacuum cleaner, and this is EXACTLY what I got with Dirt Devil Dynamite. I was looking to replace my old stick-type vacuum cleaner which was okay for hardwood, but just too weak to pick up anything from carpet.I already have a fairly large carpet steamer which I regularly use. I didn't want another clunky machine to take up very expensive square footage in my house. I also paid quite a bit for that steamer, so I didn't want to shell out for a vacuum as well. However, I did want a vacuum cleaner with some power to it.1) SMALL: The first thing that caught be by surprise is how remarkably small this vacuum cleaner is. I think the lady in the picture is rather short because the canister part hardly even reaches my kneecaps! Size-wise it almost looks like a child's toy!2) ASSEMBLY: There's virtually no assembly required. Just snap in the handle and it's good to go.3) POWERFUL: It picked up incredible amounts of dust, dust bunnies, crumbs and hair on my carpets which were freshly steam-cleaned just days earlier!4) SIMPLE: There's one on/off button, a snap button to detach canister to empty it. Sturdy paper filter. It has a stretch hose. To lock it straight up, just lean it forward. Lean backwards to unlock. Handle is retractable if you want to store it, or if you want your kids to exercise their vacuuming muscles!5) STORAGE: This cleaner just slides under the bed for storage. And I mentioned how important my storage issue is!6) PRICE: I would expect this performance from a $120 machine, but for $54 this is such a steal.7) DOWNSIDE: This cleaner is not self-propelled. You have to apply some force to push it forward. Not a deterrent for me, but might be an issue for some customers. If you have mobility problems or more significant physical limitations, you might want to consider a self-propelled vacuum over this one. More expensive cleaners will have rotating wheels which makes the cleaner slide over carpet easily.There. I hope this was useful. Happy cleaning!

So far, so good!
September 21, 2017
I just bought this and am very pleased with the results so far! I'll attach photos to show how much this picked up in 2 bedrooms that had already been vacuumed by a stick vacuum. Needless to say, that wasn't doing the job, so i ordered this small vacuum since we only have carpet in 2 rooms.I made many passes with this to get as much dirt and hair out as possible. I filled the canister just using it in 2 rooms, so it picks up a lot. It's scary to think what we were breathing in!I did have to work slightly harder to push it than with a more expensive vacuum, but I used to have one of those and this one is just as good, imo. Beware though, it makes a very shrill, loud noise when it's on that drove me nuts at first, but then Ii got used to it. The stick attachments aren't very long and are awkward to use, so if you're looking to use any of those parts a lot, especially pointing upwards, I would recommend a different vacuum. Lastly, it was not easy to empty. I had to stick my hand in and pull all the dirt out bit by bit because the design of the canister doesn't allow it to just fall out. I honestly care more about the price and how much it picked up than about emptying it, so not a huge deal-breaker for me.Good value overall and more powerful than expected. Will it last or can it handle heavy use though...not sure. I'll try to do an update in a few weeks.
Great suction, but you need to be strong to use it out of the box!
September 9, 2017
It has the suction you'd expect from a full size along with a good brush for work with my carpet. It included a crevice tool which works well too. The construction is very basic, doesn't look fancy and it collapses down to store where I want it. Right out of the box I was able to clean my filthy apartment from chunks of electrical trimmings, dirt and crushed/dried leafs. There is one problem with this unit. It sucks hard enough that you can't easily push it on low pile carpet, and forget about shag! There is a solution; I had a mylar sheet and some double sided 3m fabric tape. I made skis around the head of the vacuum and it glides great now!If you don't have mylar, PTFE or another smooth but hard plastic will work. Even a small furniture slider will do it. The problem is the front two corners dig into the carpet when pushing, that's all you have to correct.Packaging wise, it was super simple. Pull it out of the box, get the plastic bag off, attach the handle, plug in and go!I'll be using this hard and regularly, as soon as it goes out I'll update this review. As is, I ran it for about 5 hours the first day with minor breaks in between.
Money Well Spent but does Require Upkeep
January 20, 2017
I have three very large dogs and so far this vacuum has worked pretty good. The hose doesn't extend far but the vacuum itself is really light so getting cob webs hasn't been that much of an issue. The only thing is the filter gets really full making the vacuum not suck and also spit dirt/dust out of the bottom and backside hose when using the accessories. Don't get me wrong it works great and won't do it until it gets full. Also clean/empty it outside, its a mess.
This really sucks
January 11, 2013
I bought this vacuum cleaner solely based on others' reviews, and I am glad I did. It is small, but surprisingly powerful. Half of our house is hardwood and the other half is carpet, so we needed something that works well on both areas. The hose feature is especially important to me because we have a lot of nooks and crannies that the vacuum can't reach on its own. This is why I knocked off one star-the hose is nowhere near long enough to get the job done without a hassle. It has no stretch to it at all, and practically every time I use it I end up pulling the vacuum cleaner over to the ground. Don't get me wrong-the hose still works just fine, but I wish it were more elastic. Other than that, this cleaner is great. Tip-if you notice that debris is being blown all over the place when you are vacuuming, pull the hose out and check where it is connected to the vacuum-more likely than not, this is probably clogged (I found this out after 10 minutes of blowing dust and dog hair all over my kitchen floor).
Powerful Cleaning Power for a Small Package
October 16, 2012
For a 7 amp vacuum, it does above and beyond what would be expected for under $70.The Dirt Devil Dynamite picks up dirt and debris you never knew was there. When I used it for the first time, I had to empty the canister 2 times per room and made several passes. The thinner head makes it easier to get in between furniture where my old vac was just too large. The handle extends and contracts making it a good space saver. As other reviewers have pointed out, the key design flaw is that the exhaust is in front, easily kicking up fine dirt and ash if piles are present. For me, I have not noticed any clouds kicked up from it so I believe that the other reviewers are over exaggerating. Just don't try to clean the fireplace with it, or if you do, just use the extension and not the vacuum itself. Another con is the preventive maintenance. You will have to empty both the canister and clean the filter after every room to get optimum performance. To clean the filter you just take it outside and tap the bottom plastic rim against concrete to shake out the dirt in the ruffles. Even though this machine has enough suction to pick up loose change, they can get wedged where the belt is and damage it. Always play it safe and pick up any coins, paper clips and the like prior to vacuuming. Finally, there is a chance that the vacuum can become clogged, between the intake and the lower plastic hose near the disconnect to use the extension. If you no longer see dirt being picked up check this to see if you have a blockage, lots of hair will do this. All in all, I love this lil beast. It has outperformed $300+ vacs I've had in the past. Take good care of it and it'll take good care of you.
Good vacuum for a cheap price
April 9, 2010
Before I say too much, I bought this vacuum for $25 because I had a $25 gift card. I got this vacuum to keep the outdoor carpet in my screened in patio clean. Also, my main vacuum is an Oreck, so I have high standards when it comes to vacuums. (My old patio vac that I retired when I bought my Oreck now smells like fire when I use it, so I needed a new one.)The vacuum is light, and very small. There's not too many bells and whistles on this little beast, but it does a good job. It's picking up outside dirt on my outdoor carpet, and it's getting all of it. My one main complaint about this little guy is that the wheels squeak a lot. If I were indoors vacuuming my house with it, it would be really annoying. But I'm outside, so I don't care that much. The dirt canister is small, because well the whole unit is small. I don't think it would need to be emptied too often, but it's not a full size vac, just remember that.It was extremely easy to put together, take out of box, slip in handle, untwist-tie cord, vacuum. If you are looking for a very cheap vacuum that will suck stuff up, it will work. But it's no Oreck :)

Good suction, but dirty to clean. Price point and compactness for storing are the selling points for me.
September 29, 2017
I got this as a back up for upstairs. This vacuum has some good qualities, but I wouldn't buy it again. Pros: price, suction, lightweight, compact for storing, hook near top to keep cord from tangling, on/off button convenient, long cord. Cons: despite light weight not light to push around. My very big vacuum is much easier to push, but I needed a lightweight one so I don't have to lug the other one upstairs each time. More cons: noisy to the point of almost piercing, dirty to clean (have to stick your hand in and pull out filter and stick in in again to pull out dirt and still don't know how to clean filter). May add to this review as this vacuum is quite new.
Light duty vacuum
March 9, 2017
Very basic vacuum but does a decent job of cleaning the floor. Comes with one cleaning attachment, no height adjustments etc. I was surprised by how small it actually was. This would be good for small areas or someone that cannot handle a heavy machine. It does a decent job on hard surface floor as well. Basically have to step on the vacuum to release handle but vacuum cover is made of a relatively light plastic. Do not have expectations of it lasting very long but neither have some of my high dollar vacuums.
Handle came loose, suction power minimum after a year of usage
March 13, 2015
the handle was always loose from the beginning...it came out recently...realized that it was held by a plastic thing from inside and with one year of gentle usage...it has no use now...I realized that it's suction kept on decreasing ...purchased couple of filters, changed them but the ridge in the filter gets filled quickly and that will lower its suction ...you first like the idea of being bagless vacuum but soon you realize that this was not a good idea because while emptying the container you gotta deal with all that dirt...which doesn't come out easily ...nasty...it is good for first couple of months..but you'll find it troublesome after some time...UPDATE:The vacuum is still working despite its handle issue. I did a DIY fix ..the handle bar is gone but I can still use the vacuum..Now I change the filter every 1- 1.5 months...With a new filter, the vacuum works like it was new. It is better than some of the vacuums that I have used in past.
Not for sucking animal hair off of animal furniture.
February 13, 2015
My last vacuum was mainly used to vacuum the cat furniture, and it did a remarkable job, although after 1 year it stopped working and I had to replace it. I decided to try something new, that something being this Dirt Devil machine. If you're looking for a vacuum to clean cat furniture, this is not the one. It won't suck the cat hair off the furniture with the one tool it comes with - that arm thing, whatever it's called. It grabbed the debris, just not the hair. I had to lift the machine up and use the bottom part to vacuum what I could that way. It worked OK. FYI, my previous vacuum was the Bissell sold at Walmart for about $40. Worth replacing once a year if need be. Aside from this, the DD seems to pick up from the floor fine. But I wouldn't buy this again.
Great while it lasts
February 15, 2014
I bought this vacuum almost two years ago. It's been fine as I live in an apartment and need something with a small footprint, storage-wise, and that can get most of the dirt and dust out of the carpet. However, after many, many uses, I am noticing that the seals where the storage canister connects with the rest of the machine are starting to "rub off" or move around, as they are made of a soft, rubber/foam substance. I was vacuuming today with no problems, emptied out the canister, then continued. I noticed it sounded a little different and when I checked the canister, it was completely empty. That's when I found the problems with both seals (one for the hose and one for the main at the bottom).Still, it's done well for about two years and for the price, I still believe it is worth it. I may buy another one now and keep the canister from the old one to quickly swap when it gets full. :-)
powerful and quite light, but with two or three serious shortcomings
December 29, 2013
The loudness I can deal with. I let my roommates know Swiffer's insufficient, and I chose this unit. The first time I used it on the living room rug, it seemed like it was sucking up the whole rug based on how quickly the canister filled. I was very happy it earned its keep. Then I tried to empty it, and realized it's a death trap. Really, the filters keep the dirt down, but then the only way to dump out the dirt is to stick my arm into the canister was to pull out the giant "hair balls". I'm allergic so it was not a pleasant experience, though I managed it without too much trouble. For more serious allergy or asthma sufferers, though, it could be a serious issue. The other issue is the vacuum is really short. and the cord only wraps around in small "circles" basically behind the canister. Which means if you don't want to unwrap the cord entirely at the beginning, you'll have to constantly bend down to unwrap the cord as you go on. And I'm below average height. The cord "stopper" should really be placed behind the handle on the top--this is a huge usability oversight, in my opinion.

Would not recommend, not powerful enough
March 22, 2017
I had a Dirt Devil vacuum prior to purchasing the Dynamite Plus model. The older model was fantastic and reasonably priced but eventually it just broke down. I thought the Dynamite Plus would be a good replacement, but it is just not as good at picking up dust, dirt etc on carpets or floors. It is about as efficient as a carpet sweeper, ugh. Would not recommend.

February 21, 2016
I am not a fan. I am returning it. It does turn on and all but it really sucks (not in a good way) on hard surfaces and especially low carpet or un even surfaces. Its a great workout as you really have to push and pull it hard on any thick carpet. I tried it for a month. I feel I really put it to the test and gave it a good effort. It is light and compact as it shows and that is nice especially because I do vacation housekeeping, but besides that this was not up to the task. Also I don't like the canister. You screw off the top and to empty it you have to reach in and remove the filter first, everytime.
not very good
January 3, 2016
I ended up regretting buying this vacuum. While it does work it doesnt collect as much as others about a third I would guess. Its really tough to push for the size. Its beyond me why it would be like this and it makes for a clumsy experience. Emptying is annoying you have to screw the top off and in a lot of cases then unscrew filter to dump it completely. While this is not difficult it is annoying and an unnecessarily poor design. You cannot turn off the roller which is weird to me. Every vacuum i've had last 15 years has had this option. Even the power switch is in a weird spot not where you would use your foot for that quick I snagged somthing and need this thing off now spot but near the top of the collection canister. So yeah I paid 40 bucks for it on sale but I should have spent little more on somthing good.
Cheaply made and didn't work well
December 14, 2014
We ordered this vacuum to replace the hand vacuum we have (also Dirt Devil). Although it seems like a good deal, in this case you get what you pay for. We tried using it to vacuum a couple of times, but found that we had to go over a spot so many times that it was wasting more time than just using the hand vacuum to clean our apartment. It also smells terrible when we run it, like formaldehyde or new car smell--it gives me headaches and reminds me of when I was taking ichthyology and doing specimen preservation. It gets +1 star for not being too bad at cleaning the carpets in our house and having decent suction when you use the hose.Pros:- Works alright on carpet (but still have to go over a spot a couple of times)- Can get into corners and under things using the hose, which has decent suctionCons:- Poor suction from main vacuum, especially on hard floors like linoleum and wood- Blowing out of sides of vacuum that blows things away from the suction- Feels cheaply made- Odd smell when running - my significant other thinks it smells like burning rubber, I'm guessing some kind of formaldehyde or some other aldehyde.- Came with parts that can't be stored/attached to vacuum (they're not even mentioned in the instruction booklet)
Only performed well for the first 6 months
March 12, 2014
I bought this for a smallish house. It's three bedroom mostly hard floors and the carpet is very low basically a rug over hard floor. It picks well on all my surfaces and gets by the wall as well. For the price it is the best vacuum in it's range and probably above it to as I just bought a bissel for 100 and returned it the next day before buying this one online. My only complaint is that the attachments are too short it goes like a foot then the whole thing falls on me which does not tickle...the actual size of the vacuum is small as well but for my size place it's perfect. I'm 5 foot so its not to short for me. The best thing is that the handle goes down for storage purposes however my daughter loves to vacuum and this is small enough to where she can retrieve it, use it and store it for me obviously with adult supervision but I love how great she feels when she gets to help her momma out.Well, It's been two months short of a year of having this. Performance started to spiral down a couple months ago. If you buy this only plan on using it for about 6 months, anything after that and you will sweep over an area 4 times and still step on stuff it left behind. It pretty much just pushes everything in the corner where I can sweep it up. I bought this for a really small house and didn't need to use it but a couple times a week so it is disappointing that it didn't perform for that long. Oh well, off to buy a better vacuum
Great for a month or two, then...
September 19, 2013
I bought this vacuum months ago and for the first couple of months while being used for 20 minutes a week, the suction that was at one point quite good, just stopped. After each time I used it, I would empty it and clean the HEPA filter so it was still in great condition and there was no clog. Surprisingly the tools continued to work for another couple times and then that quite too. At that point, I tried to find a replacement belt thinking that the problem was something that simple. Now, months later after trying a few different things to make this work, it's sitting in the closet and collecting the dust it was purchased to pick up. Maybe the price point should have been an indication that this vacuum is subpar, but I tried to go with the discount and hoped it would hold out for a few years, not months.

The suction power is no good at all
September 27, 2016
The suction power is no good at all. I used this to vacuum my apartment, only to find hair and bits of food still in the carpet. I can vacuum the whole apartment, and only small amount of dust would gather in the canister. But the worst part is when I noticed that there are dust collected in the machine's outer body every time I finished vacuuming. At first I thought that it's because I didn't wipe the machine before I'm using it, but then I start noticing dust being blown out from the machine when I'm vacuuming. This means I'm wasting my time and energy to vacuum, just to have the dust blown back to air by the machine. I don't know if it's a faulty product or what, but I am highly disappointed with this product.
One of the worst vacuum cleaners ever
June 1, 2016
Cheap. Kicks up dust and dirt. You can't simply use the hose in between vacuuming. It's an either/or situation. You have to physically remove the suction hose and add the attachment and when you're done you have to put the suction hose back on. Very inconvenient. You basically get what you paid for with this vacuum.
Oh I hate this vac
January 11, 2016
Oh I hate this vac...the blower is at the very bottom...so all the floor dirt flies around before u can vacuum it...hate it...did I say hate it....also, the filter fills up with fur (adopted Buddy ..dog) and it sucks...well not not suck up..lolI will never buy filter in vacuum..NO filter search...Also, the cord where it is located...is bad...it keeps knocking off attachment....and I will not stay in notch.....Update..hate even more
Short lifespan. Hose gets clogged easily. Not worth your money.
September 20, 2015
************UPDATE**********I've owned the vacuum for a few months now and am truly disappointed by its short lifespan of usefulness. The biggest problem is the hose. The dust just doesn't seem to want to travel up the hose and into the collection compartment.I have to keep detaching the hose form the base of the vacuum, which results in all the clutter I've just vacuumed spilling out onto the floor.Yes I washed the filter, emptied out the collection container, clean out the hose so there is an open airway, but this happens everything I vacuum.Considering I only vacuum 200 sq.ft. once a week and have to troubleshoot at least 3x in one go, this isn't worth your money.Spend a little extra on something more reliable.*************************PRO:- Dont let its size fool you. I just vacuumed an entire house littered with a cat's hairballs, spilled litter and cat food, layers of dust, etc. This is perfect for a small apartment/house if you have pets. However when you're vacuuming stuff like this be prepared to empty the vacuum out often and wash/replace the filter.- This has a longer cord than my regular heavy duty vacuum so I don't constantly have to worry about finding an outlet.- With my chronic knee pain I have to be very careful about how much weight I lift and force I exert. The little vacuum is lighter than my tote bag and pretty user friendly.CONS:- The hose IS very short so forget about getting to the high shelves.- Also when you undo the hose attachment from the body of the vacuum some of the dust can fall back out. It not really that big of a deal, I just vacuum it right back up.
Would NOT recommend you buy this vacuum!
May 18, 2014
I had the Dirt Devil Featherlite and loved it (I'd seen a review of the top 5 vacuums on GMA or another morning program and it was right up there with the Dyson) and used it till the beater bearings wore out. I wasn't careful enough to ensure I was buying the same model and ended up with this one.Pros: The handle can be lowered into the machine for easier storage. The on/off switch is a button instead of a pedal. Comes assembled.Cons: Poor suction (my other one left vacuum marks on the rug so you could see where you'd already vacuumed); the stretch hose and extension wand TOGETHER are about 4'. I tried to vacuum my 8' ledges, and even standing on a counter WITH the machine on the counter, too, I could not get the vacuum close enough to vacuum up there. When trying to use the hose, I actually went back to the manual to see if there was something I was supposed to switch on/off to get the hose to work (no). I get a tiny shock periodically from the handle. I just bought this in April and never envisioned a problem. I thought it was working "OK" - never as good as what it replaced - but now I am beyond disappointed, have no box(es) for a return and hate it! I would certainly buy another Featherlite but NOT this model! (I did check other reviews and they seemed fine. ??)
Disappointment right out the box
July 7, 2013
I was happy to recieve my new dirt devil, mainly due to it being light. I hate carrying around heavy cleaning machines. Right out the box it was easy to assemble, however once I started using it, I noticed it pushes dirt out the back. I thought maybe it got too full, so emptied it and cleaned the filter and went to complete the 2nd room of my house. No that wasn't the issue at all. I was constantly going over the carpets over and over, not to mention I couldn't use it on the hardwood floors. This product is a dirt pusher, doesn't have much suction except to suck it up and spit it right back out.Another issue - the belt breaks on it constantly. I have been through 4 belts already and I finally just gave up on it. I will be tossing this in the trash and just invest in a better one.Dissapointed due to the old dirt devil I had worked for so many years until my dog got ahold of the cord, so had to replace it. Naturally due to the wonderful experience I had with the first one, I went straight to dirt devil. It had great reviews, however it wasn't a great product. Changed my view of the company so much, I feel if I ever use their products again, I will be taking a huge risk and wasting money.
