Five Star Reviews: | 64% Very Pleased With Purchase February 21, 2017 Very easy installation and setup for my Dell UltraSharp Monitor (Model #U2913WM) used with a Dell Inspiron 17R laptop. This is not the speaker for you if listening to music is your primary goal. This functions best for listening to people speak (interviews, webcasts, instructional, etc.) but it is just okay for YouTube music videos. More than met my expectation at a very reasonable price. Make sure you check if this is compatible for your monitor before ordering and you'll be happy if it is. I especially like that it is powered through the monitor. Perfect sound bar for Dell 2007FP monitor February 4, 2016 Got this sound bar for a Dell 2007FP monitor, circa 2005. Paid $8 shipped. The seller was Adorsales. Got the sound bar in 2 days via Prime shipping. The sound bar clips right to the bottom of the monitor via two build-in tabs. There are two wires coming out of the sound bar; one for the 3.5mm jack on your computer and the other is the power cable for the sound bar. The power cable connects directly to the Dell 2007FP monitor. To turn the sound bar on, simply rotate the knob located on its right edge. A light turns on in the middle of the sound bar to indicate that it's powered on. Sound quality is as good as, if not better than, any build-in speakers on the modern monitors. And it's loud! :)Pros:- Cheap. $8 shipped.- Easy setup. Clips right onto the Dell 2007FP monitor.- Comes with power cable that connects directly to my Dell 2007FP monitor; doesn't require a separate power brick.- Decent sound. LOUD.Cons:- Should have gotten it 10 years ago.If you have one of those Dell monitors listed in the item description and are thinking about getting a set of speakers for your PC, treat yourself to something nice and spend the $8! :) Surprisingly good for the price. January 6, 2016 Wow, shockingly good for all of $11. This thing won't rattle your windows or anything but that's not what it's for. I got it so I could have sound through the display port from my computer when I don't feel like using my big speakers or when I'm at LAN Parties. I'm basically always listening to music while doing stuff at my desk. I was surprised at the deeper tones this little speaker could make. They are far from tinny. If anything they are hair on the muddy side. It seems that's the only way to make cheap speakers have a little more bass to them. They aren't tinny by any means. They are certainly better than what you would find built into most monitors. They snapped on perfectly to my Dell Ultrasharp U2913WM ultra wide monitor (with the built in clips) and simply run off the power that the monitor provides. They have a long audio cable, but I just bundled up the wire and use the twist tie they came with that kept the audio cable bundled up in the box to secure the excess wire to the little loop on the right side of the speaker and plug into the audio out on the monitor. They have a not too bright white LED right in the center, a smooth volume control on the right side and dual headphone ports on the left side, that I haven't tried. So yeah if you have a compatible monitor these are great for the price. I suppose if you have a 12v power source you could use this little speaker bar as a stand alone speaker, but there are probably better options than that. Works Great with Dell P2411H June 3, 2015 As is mentioned repeatedly on this product's listing - it does not contain a power supply. These speakers are designed specifically to attach to a supported Dell display and get power from that display. This is exactly what I was looking for and they work great.I've got them attached to a Dell P2411H display. Power plugs directly into the monitor and there's a 3.5mm plug for sound. There's a dial on the right side of the speakers to turn them on/off and control the volume. On the left side of the speakers there's two 3.5mm headphone jacks. There's a white power light right in the middle of the speakers. It isn't blindingly bright. It isn't that distracting. But it does seem un-necessarily obvious. An interesting side-effect of drawing power from the display is that the speakers lose power when the display is turned off or asleep. This means that if your display goes to sleep due to inactivity, you lose your sound too.Sound quality is good, but not amazing. Better than I've gotten from USB-powered speakers in the past. Better than the speakers on my laptop. Not as good as I could get with some quality headphones or more-expensive speakers. Definitely good for the price though. Wow...looks/wounds/feels/works great, especially for it's size/price. April 20, 2015 OK, so first I just have to chuckle at the fact that I ordered the monitor on Friday, it was delivered on Sunday. Then Sunday afternoon I ordered this speaker, and it arrived on Monday.Couldn't have been easier to mount on my U2412M. Not counting cable management, I got it unboxed, installed to the monitor, plugged in and working in less than 2 minutes. My only real "issues" is that it could use some better bass...but honestly? That's it. And for the $11.70 I paid for it, it's a damn good piece. Is it better than the laptop speakers on my Dell E5530 laptop? Waaaay better. The plastic is a slightly different color black/sheen/texture that the monitor, but not by much. The easy-to-access and turn volume knob is nice, as is the mic and headphone jacks on the other side. Some of the reviews mention the white LED line running up and down the center of the unit, behind the grill, and behind a diffuser. I will say that's way less bright than the power LED on my other Viewsonic monitor...but I would have been fine without the light, or maybe a tiny one the size of one grill hole.Cheap, sounds pretty darned good for it's size, useful features, attractive, and couldn't-be-easier installation. What more could you ask for? Would I pay $20 more for a bit more bass? Yes...but even then, this would still work well-enough for most people, I think. This Purchaser is Beyond Pleased With This Purchase!!! November 16, 2013 Bought this for one of my 5 Dell U2412M monitors. I currently have the 5 monitors vertical until my monitor stand arrives. I have the speaker attached to the far left monitor. It was very simple to install with a simple click onto the monitor. To get power, the connectivity from the speaker to my monitor was beyond simple. I was up and running in no time. The on/off-sound level nob located on the right end of the speaker is in a perfect place. it is easy to turn on and off and adjust the volume level. Upon receiving my monitor stand that will stand 2 monitors over 3, i will simply install the speaker on the middle monitor on the bottom. The customized fit and look while attached to the monitor looks very custom. I currently do not have the need to use the inputs located on the other end of the speaker but Dell did a great job in adding this feature for those that have this need I read essentially all the reviews prior to buying this product. What I got was better than expected. The sound quality is excellent for my needs as I use the speaker to listen to webinars and work-related sound needs. While not on webinars, playing Pandora in the background is a nice feature. Many reviewers mentioned the white light that when the speaker is horizontal, the white power light is vertical right in the middle. I actually think this is a great idea. It is not obtrusive as it is a soft light and a reminder that the speaker is on. While not an audio-geek, the sound is excellent for my needs and this purchase has been a perfect match for my monitor(s). I highly recommend this product. | 56% Nice clean installation March 28, 2017 While others have reported that this sound bar comes with a short USB cable, mine came with a 5 foot USB cable attached to the sound bar. For my configuration I will likely still buy a USB extension cable due to how I want to route my cable, but 5 feet may be enough for you. My Dell monitors do not have USB ports so I it must plug this sound bar into a USB port on my computer. I get no static noise when connected this way, others have reported noise when plugged into the USB port on their monitor. My Dell monitor, model E2416H, has the provision to mount this sound bar to the bottom of the monitor. Nice clean installation! Love it! So the noise others talk about must be from the USB power in the monitor, proximity of the sound bar to the monitor (mounted directly under the monitor) does not cause the noise issue, at least not for me.I highly recommend this sound bar! The primary advantages are: 1.) It mounts to the bottom of compatible Dell monitors for a very nice clean look. 2.) The sound bar sounds great. I am not doing any critical listening but it works great for you tube, but still impressed with the sound. Dell AC511 USB Wired Soundbar September 20, 2016 I was honestly nervous when I ordered this soundbar and learned that it's USB-powered. My experience in the past with USB-powered speakers was sub-par, so understandably, I had doubts. I was pleasantly pleased when I turned this unit on and watched a movie. The sound was leaps and bounds better than my expectations. Nice deep bass, crisp highs. In terms of volume, it gets fairly loud -- more than enough for my needs while sitting in my office. Volume controls located on the side of the unit are very convenient.Overall, I highly recommend this unit. small unobtrusive and works great for general audio on a PC August 30, 2016 Bought a new Dell monitor (4k 27") and didn't even realize there were little tabs to remove to mount this. It hooks up via USB to the monitor and then is integrated with windows volume (the dial on it moves 0-100 just like the system control in the taskbar) so doesn't require two level tweaking like my previous dell monitor sound bar (adjust on hardware and on software)Cord is longer than I needed but I hid it behind the monitor so I don't mind (assume it is longer in case you have to get down to USB port on your PC) Good sound for the price April 8, 2016 Good sound for the price. The sound is balanced and clear. There is certainly no abundance of bass nor are the high notes especially transparent, but I enjoy listening to them. I wouldn't use them for a lot of music listening, but for the occasional video or some background music while working, these do the job well, and look nice. The build quality is actually nice and appealing. They're solid matte black with two 3.5mm jacks on the left side and a volume knob and a white LED power indicator that comes on whenever the device is plugged in. These speakers connect over USB, and you will have to choose them as your default output device in your operating system to be able to use them (though this is a very easy step, it could be a hassle if you plan to change devices often). However, I wouldn't recommend using them as a USB DAC, because there is a little bit of static on the 3.5mm ports. Overall, I nice, inexpensive, practical, and sleek looking product with satisfactory audio. Fits perfectly and easy to install March 16, 2016 I purchased this product for Dell monitor and Windows PC. Fits perfectly and easy to install. I purchased another one home (P2715Q) and had difficult time to make it working. The installation guide shows that you need to connect Sound bar with your monitor and then Monitor to your laptop (I have MacBook Pro). It didn't work! I also had to purchase additional cable because the Sound bar didn't have USB to USB cable. It didn't work either. Was very disappointed. However, customer support service did amazing work! That is why They contacted me and explained what to do. So, for everyone who has same difficulties:Do not follow the instruction! You just need to hook the Sound Bar directly to the computer via a USB extension (comes with a product) instead of to the USB slot on the back of the monitor. You need to use only one cable instead of two. Also it can be a little problem if you don't have USB hub, because this cable is very short. Make sure you have it or you need to purchase another cable.About sound: If you complain about bad sound - go and buy subwoofer or professional sound speakers. For this speaker size sound is really good! You pay for the compact product which doesn't take too much space on your desk, not for the perfect sound. Perfect for its size and cost! February 13, 2016 This soundbar is now installed on my 27" Dell P2715Q, which is a sweet 4K monitor. The soundbar provides excellent quality for its size. The speakers I had previously had more base, but that's because they were connected to a small subwoofer about the size of a volleyball. People should not criticize this Dell soundbar if they feel there is not enough bass or loudness. If you want loud audio with lots of bass, connect your computer to a surround sound setup that is designed to blow you away.I have thoroughly enjoyed gaming and streaming TV shows while watching from bed because this soundbar is sleek, clear, and enjoyable. | 77% There are no reviews yet | 0% There are no reviews yet | 0% There are no reviews yet |
Four Star Reviews: | 16% Turns out my monitor did not have the right outlet ... April 8, 2017 Turns out my monitor did not have the right outlet in it, so I had to buy that separately. The sound is ok. More importantly, it keeps my small desk clear of speakers. Excellent solution for basic speaker needs November 17, 2015 I had to replace some very old stereo computer speakers that failed, and I wanted something that took up little desk space. Since I use a Dell 2412 monitor at work, I saw that this little soundbar would attach to the monitor and take up little space. It mounts easily to the bottom of this monitor and plugs into a dedicated power port.Pros: very minimal space usage, doesn't interfere with the use of the monitor at all; ten-second installation time; easy to use volume/power knob on right side; LED power-on light in middle of speaker. The sound quality is quite acceptable for listening to voicemail, short videos, and music when richness of sound isn't necessary.Cons: limited bass; limited stereo separation.Cost: bought this refurbished (really "open box") from Amazon Marketplace for less than the cost of my lunch sandwich, chips and drink. Good buy! Declutter Your Desk and Perfectly Acceptable Sound October 8, 2015 So right up front, you should know that the sound quality of these speakers isn't outstanding. That said, I really like them anyway.Convenience is the real reason to get these. They clip on to the back of your Dell monitor (verify that your monitor is one they will attach to) so they aren't cluttering up your desk. On the the P and U Series Dell monitors, they don't require an extra power cord - the short power cord plugs directly into the back of the monitor which also reduces the clutter on and around your desk. Lastly, the sound quality is acceptable - particularly for office use. Clients like them for training's and webinars. Have been using these in offices for years and haven't seen one fail yet, so very reliable as well. As far as I'm concerned, you can't beat these for your Dell-branded monitor for the price. Great space saver, but very generic in sound. September 6, 2015 The light on the front took a bit to get used to. Don't forget to turn this off if you power down your computer or it will put out a weird squelching sound. Sounds a bit tinny, so don't get one of these if you're looking for good sound quality. Great for space saving and wires. A good solution March 12, 2015 This was a good choice for my office at a manufacturing plant. When at my desk, my laptop is docked and I use external monitors. The sound however, was from the stock laptop speakers. Given the noise level of the plant, there was no consistent way to clearly hear conversations or video. These speakers cover that base well. Web-based communication is perfectly clear and the volume goes up to an uncomfortably loud level without distortion.Installation was as simple as snapping it in place under my Dell monitor, connecting the power cable to a pre-existing recess behind the monitor and plugging the connector into the dock headphone jack.I do not find the power light intrusive, but it is unnecessarily big. A simple white dot would do.(See picture)I do listen to music on it from time to time. It isn't great but it is a whole lot better than laptop speakers. That said, these are obviously not full range speakers.I like them. Clean install, doesn't take up desk space, pretty good sound. Cheap, space saving, good enough sound for casual listening April 4, 2014 If you have a compatible Dell monitor, this is one of the least expensive speakers you can get while keeping your desk clutter free. Don't expect amazing sound. I think my macbook pro has better bass than this although this speaker is a lot louder. The speaker switches on/off automatically with the monitor's power button. The power on indicator on the front of the speakers is kinda distracting though if your room is dark and you're watching a movie or something. Mine came with dedicated power adaptor, though not needed for my monitor | 16% Looks great, perfect fit for the Dell monitor. Sleek and decent sound. Trouble with direct HDMI hook up to monitor September 20, 2017 This is a perfect fit for the Dell Computer Ultrasharp U2415 24.0-Inch Screen LED MonitorEasy install...just pop off the bottom protective cover and it slips onThe sound is ok, Not a lot of base, but easily adjusted volume and great for the occasional video or movie. It's not a multi hundred dollar speaker system, but it fits right on the monitor and looks great without being bulky.Only four stars because I couldn't get it to work directly off the monitor that was plugged in to the HDMI port on the computer. I had to run a line to the audio output. It may be a configuration setup issue, but I couldn't resolve the problem.I like the look, the setup, the decent sound. It just didn't run off the monitor when I hooked the monitor to HDMI and the speaker to the monitor. I had to run it to the computer audio output connection. Convenient, great sound, with caveat June 2, 2017 This speaker is meant to hang under your Dell monitor. Check under the bottom of your monitor for two slits before purchasing, if you plan on hanging it under your monitor. My monitor had two sticky pieces of plastic covering up the slits. Removed those, slid the speaker in place. Fits solidly. I chose to plug it in to the USB port on the side of the monitor, and it worked without drivers or configuration. My speaker does suffer from the known white noise issue where it makes an audible noise (although very low) due to picking up interference. I'm going to try the recommended method of putting foil around the speaker to circumvent this. Due to me having to fix something that should be done during design or manufacturing, I am deducting 1 star. I am not deducting more because I ordered the speaker being fully aware of this possible issue.Considering the ease of setup and the sound quality of this sound bar, I would definitely still recommend purchasing it. Just be prepared to possibly do a little more to rid the audible white noise, if your speaker suffers from that. Nice profile. Decent sound quality and volume for the size. Annoying buzz is a design flaw, but not the biggest deal. June 18, 2016 I like it. It's pretty good. I mean, the sound quality is fine, and it is sufficiently loud for how I use it. I'm glad it has a headphone jack, too. I don't have a monitor that it was designed to fit, but I just took a dremel and cut off the little tabs, and then used double-sided tape to stick it to the bottom of my monitor. The only downside is that there is a design flaw in this speaker that is well documented; it has a slight speaker buzz/noise that comes out regardless of volume setting. I can't here it unless the room is quiet, but it is a little bit annoying. If you look online, people say they sometimes return it, thinking it is a defect, but then the replacement does it as well. Dell claims the noise is within their design parameters... but that doesn't mean the buzz is acceptable - it just means they have a bad design, and they know it. But, it's not that big of a deal. That's why I am still giving it 4 stars. I think having a USB speaker that just sits below my monitor is way nicer than having extra wires and stuff clouding up my counter. Oh, and with a USB speaker, the volume control integrates with the Windows volume control, which I think is nice. No issues with turning up the speaker, only to find windows is turned down, or vice-versa. Almost the perfect sound bar. January 26, 2016 We bought a bunch of new dell computers, monitors, soundbars, everything for our business. The soundbars work great with the computers, but as some have mentioned there are issues with the headphone jack. We didn't buy them for the headphone jack since we didn't know there even was one when we bought them. Our business got a new building with custom desks that hide the computers very well so all you see is the monitor keyboard and mouse. We used the monitor as a USB hub so employees can just plug in their USB devices to the monitor if they needed to. Sometimes people like to listen to voicemails privately(or YouTube videos) so when I discovered the headphone and microphone jacks I got excited that we could still keep the computer hidden and have access to USB ports and Headphone/Microphone jacks on top of the desk. I tried my headphones in it and it was all fuzzy. Other employees use Skype to communicate outside the country and I bought them headsets only to find out the microphone jack won't even pick up a signal. I had to buy separate USB sound cards to get the headset to work.Basically it is a great soundbar if you need a slim speaker that easily attaches to a Dell monitor and doesn't take up real estate on your desk. It also is powered by USB so you don't need any extra power bulky cables. For the price it really is a great device, but I am bummed that the headphone jack and microphone jack simply do not work This was almost the perfect speaker option for our needs. I'm sure they will make improvements eventually. susceptible to interference January 19, 2016 Pros: very nice sound. clean installation. unobtrusive. comes with long USB cable attached for those of us without USB hubs built into the monitor.Cons: constant buzzing sound! In my case it's picking up interference from the cordless phone base nearby on the desk. The noise is coupling in on the USB cable. I'll need to move some stuff around on the desk or try adding additional ferrite beads and/or copper tape to quiet this thing down.[edit] I ended up moving the DECT cordless phone base off the desk and since then there has been NO static or buzzing from the soundbar. The sound quality is excellent. Using this with a Dell E2414H monitor. This soundbar is rev A02. A good design but Dell needs to add more shielding to the enclosure and USB cable. Works well when plugged directly into the computer. Static if plugged into Dell monitor. Bypasses PC sound card. March 20, 2015 For what these are, they're good. The sound quality is as decent as you can expect from 1" tall speakers. Some considerations, though....First, they're designed to be mounted on a Dell monitor. If you don't have a Dell monitor, consider getting something else. Second, these act as their own "sound device" on your computer. If you have a sound card, this bypasses it. The volume control is non-physical, meaning that that turning the volume knob is the same as adjusting the volume slider on the computer. You can watch the volume level on the computer move as you turn the wheel on the speaker. This is different from most PC speakers, where the volume can be adjusted independent of the computer. This also means that if you have a $100 sound card in the computer, and go with these speakers, you're not going to be using the $100 sound card at all. You do not even need a sound card in your computer to use these speakers. The speakers come with a very short USB cord that's meant to plug into a Dell monitor with a built-in USB hub. When we did this (and this is why I'm knocking off a star, even though it's not really the fault of the speaker) there was a large amount of static, crackling, and popping coming from the speakers. This happened on multiple computers and multiple monitors. We found that this was due to the fact that the powered USB hub in the Dell monitor wasn't producing "clean" DC power. Both the power and sound signal come to the speakers through USB. The hub in the Dell monitor is powered, and the AC to DC converter must not be the best quality. As a result, we had to use a USB extension to plug these directly into a USB port on the PC. This kind of defeats the purpose of the short, stubby USB cable that the speaker comes with.I tried using set of headphones with these that also included a microphone (for a cel phone). The headphone jack on these speakers did not like that. The sound was terrible. I found that if I pull out the headphone jack slightly, the electrical connections lines up and the sound comes out better. If you're using regular headphones, this will likely not be an issue. All in all these sound fine, but are very susceptible to changes in DC source voltage, which results in static and hissing. There are a couple of posts on the Dell forum sites with people complaining that these speakers don't work at all, or have static. This may be due to the same issue we experiences with the USB hub in the monitor. | 15% There are no reviews yet | 0% There are no reviews yet | 0% There are no reviews yet |
Three Star Reviews: | 9% Speaker is alright. Bothersome light in middle. March 17, 2017 The speaker itself is great. Saves space and sound is loud & clear. However, the light in the middle is quite intrusive. And I'm not sure if it's just a problem with my speaker, but the 2 headphone jacks on the side don't provide crisp sound, so I still have to resort to the less convenient jacks on my PC case which is under the desk... Great purpose March 9, 2017 The volume for this did not work, this may have been a broken one but it did look awesome sauce attached to my monitor. I am sure the next one I order I will love Dell Genuine AX510 Entry Flat Panel Stereo Sound Bar February 2, 2016 Aesthetically, this monitor is great. It fits perfectly with my Dell monitor and connecting it was easy.As for sound quality, it is okay. It is not as clear as i would like it but i gets very loud. You can slightly hear static noise in the background even though it is not maxed out.It would also be better if the light in the middle could be turned off. They make great monitors they just have no audio January 7, 2016 If you buy a DELL monitor and you want to hear your computer through your monitor you'll need this to do so. What a bunch of a$$holes DELL is to make monitors with no capability to hear your audio. Don't get me wrong. They make great monitors they just have no audio. The better deal is to go with a small HD tv. (Say a 32 inch flat panel) as a monitor. That is unless if you plan on plugging your computer into an external audio source such as a stereo or whatnot. Still for watching videos online the audio is acceptable. You get what you pay for. February 25, 2015 This speaker bar is not, by any means, a "nice" audio setup, at least not on its own. I bought it to replace my old desktop speakers, which it does a sufficient job of doing, but I would not call it an improvement with any real seriousness. The trebble seems to be a little on the high side. Also, just throwing this out there, this runs on a 12v 1A DC power supply, and the one they sell for this model (either with the full package or separately) is just more expensive than it should be. find an identical power supply and either splice the wires or find a 2.1mm female-to-female coaxial power connector and save ten bucks. | 12% Only for Certain Dell Monitors July 9, 2017 Decent sound quality, however lacking in bass. Hookup couldn't be simpler -- just plug into USB 2.0 or 3.0. Note it only snaps onto some Dell model monitors. It doesn't come with legs or a base so if it won't snap onto your Dell monitor, and you just rest it on your desk, it looks sloppy and the speakers aren't angled properly for best listening. Doesn't work with Chromecast May 25, 2017 Great concept but flawed execution... I have a monitor that I use with a Chromecast so there is no computer anywhere near the monitor. Unfortunately, this sound bar requires that the USB be plugged into a computer and it doesn't work if it is plugged into the USB port of the monitor itself. The USB of this device isn't just for power. You must send audio via the USB plug for this to work at all. Don't buy to save a cable. March 17, 2017 I wouldn't buy again. Works great at first and then you get that dreaded hiss...mine didn't start with the constant static until windows did an update. It's true if you connect it directly to the computer instead of the back of the monitor it fixes the problem but I bought this to have one less cable. Beware of the LONG cable and the ugly ring! March 13, 2017 Like many other reviewers I can hear faint static coming from the speaker. It's not horrible, and barely noticeable, but it's there. The cord attached to it is not removable and is several feet long, and has a ring that a kensington lock cable would go through, which is not removable. I dont know how I'm going to hide all of this crap behind the monitor... Not too bad January 14, 2016 I love the way this fits seamlessly on the underside of my Dell monitor. Having a volume control on the right end is also an excellent addition. The best part, at first, was the headphone jack on the left end of the unit. What surprised me was that when watching TV on the monitor I could hear the background music, even the vocal singing, but I could not hear a word that was spoken by the characters. I tried to turn on the closed captioning but decided that wasn't for me. I also wish the volume could be a bit more amplified. As long as you're near the computer without distracting sounds it's fine, but when it's competing with other sounds, it doesn't get loud enough. I'm going to keep it, because most of the time it fits my needs. Don;t buy these for the headphone jack, but other than they, they're OK March 2, 2015 The sound bar works reasonably well, but the headphone jack produces a hollow and unbalanced sound through some high-end headphones. I can't tell if the port on the sound bar is defective (my headphones work well plugged in any other way) or if Dell intends it to sound this way. On the positive side, the speakers require only a USB connection to the monitor. On the downside, they don't fit well with my Dell monitor stand and the headphone sound quality is lacking. | 2% There are no reviews yet | 0% There are no reviews yet | 0% There are no reviews yet |
Two Star Reviews: | 4% so good luck finding one you have lying around your house June 9, 2016 Be careful when ordering. I thought I could use this sound bar even though I do not have a Dell computer. Not the case. You cannot use the USB as a power source, you need to plug the power bar into an AC adapter which does not come with the speaker.....so good luck finding one you have lying around your house. Bait and switch... July 4, 2015 Website description described this as new, but when receive it was obvious not new as there's a "refurbished" label stuck on all five of these... they worked but considering I could've paid $10 more (and that would've included an A/C adapter) it's not a good value. NOT "genuine" Dell December 2, 2014 Not a genuine Dell speaker.First off, I was skeeved out by the packaging - it was "repackaged"; an old dell box with a sticker indicating "Please pardon the appearance, but this box is being reused by Dell to save trees." The tape that Dell uses to ensure product integrity that says "if this seal is broken or damaged, check contents BEFORE signature receipt" is already opened, and re-taped with plain, clear cello-tape. On the other end, the original product label indicates "refurbished." Without even looking at the product itself, its pretty apparent this is not the new, genuine Dell speaker you think you're buying. The paper the "terms and conditions of sale" is also different from the paper Dell uses to print its info, and the warranty indicated is very vague and indirect as if to obscure the fact that this product simply isn't warranted. It directs you to www.dell.com/warranty to check on your warranty. Nowhere on the product itself is the word "DELL" inscribed, only "Zylux Acoustic Corporation" on the back. Having to endure the 90s with Dell products and working for a district that only buys Dell, it's pretty plain to see that all real Dell products have the word Dell plastered on it a few times whether a plastic emblem on the front or "www.dell.com" on the back of the product.Despite the poor reputation Dell computers have, they still care about the reputation of their name brand and understand how selling a product that appears like this would damage their reputation. The "saving trees" stickers is absolutely laughable (a multi-billion dollar company is not reusing boxes to sell new "genuine" products, end of story). The seller/company ought to know that most of us are buying this product in conjunction with a genuine Dell Monitor so the majority of us have a basis for comparison of what a real Dell product looks like vs. a bootleg. As for actual sound quality, it works perfectly fine out of the box (thus the 2/5 rather than 1/5). I've only managed to watch a movie and a single YouTube video so far and I can't tell any flaws in the sound. I'm just upset that I bought an item that describes itself as "genuine" when its obviously a bootleg product. I have no problems buying a bootleg product especially at such a low price (the wire I connect my Mac to my monitor is non-brand name) but I am a stickler for transparency. This product may crap out in a month for all I know. I'm too lazy and cheap to buy a new speaker for my monitor (purchased for spreadsheets) so I won't go out of my way to return it, but the poor attempt at deception is what warrants such a low rating so shoppers can be aware of what they're buying. Meets bare minimum requirements -- sound quality poor May 14, 2014 I bought this not expecting good sound - which for my use is fine. I wasn't expecting much, but this is just barely acceptable. Reminds me of the old tinny sound coming from the transistor radios of my youth (okay, maybe not that bad, but you get the point). On the plus side, takes zero desk space, which is why I bought it. Very poor sound quality February 13, 2014 Designated to Dell monitor speaker cost just $20 sounds great. However when considering it's poor sound quality it's not good deal. In addition, if you don't have Dell monitor which has a power outlet at the back side of monitor the cost will be increased. The worst case. | 6% Low Expectations Were Not Met. August 23, 2017 I realize it's an inexpensive item and my expectations were not high, but... I've had many monitors with built-in speakers, and other than volume, this does not improve upon the worst of them. As a separate, rather large dedicated "soundbar" that requires connection to a usb port, I was hoping for at least a small step up from the sound I'd get from any typical monitor with built-ins. Nope. My gripes:1. The bass/lower frequencies are over-emphasised/amplified which is never good coming from very small, cheap speakers. This creates a distracting unbalanced sound. Kinda what mud would sound like if it could talk.2. Even though the speakers are unobstructed and pointing directly at the listener, they sound "muffled" like most built-in speakers. I'm sure the emphasis on low frequencies contributes to this.3. No on/off or mute button, just volume. It's connected via USB so there is no good excuse for this.4. Requires a USB connection to my computer but offers none of functionality of a USB connection (see #3).There is a tiny power-on led on the side of the "soundbar". This LED is the best example of how little thought or care went into designing this product. Here's why.1. You can't see it unless you look at the soundbar from the side.2. It's OK that you can't see it because it serves NO purpose. You can't turn the soundbar off (see #3 above.) It stays on even if you turn off the monitor. The light even stays on if you turn off the computer...3. But wait! As tiny as it is, it is impressively bright. Bright white no less. I didn't realize how bright until bedtime. It was after turning out the lights for bed that I first realized that this had a light on it. I got up and returned to my computer to confirm my first thought that, yes, it was actually bright enough to read by. So perhaps this is a feature? A built-in night light.Dell can do better, and so can you. Even at this price point. Pretty amazing to me that people complained about this problem ... November 8, 2016 A step down from the analog bar that I've had with my U2412. It does crackle with static in some rooms (I've move around a bit, and in some places where I put the U2415 with this sound bar, it crackled quite a lot). Reducing the volume does nothing to reduce this, only pulling out the USB plug... Pretty amazing to me that people complained about this problem years ago and it's still not fixed with proper insulation. The volume control is software based, so in some situations when the OS doesn't capture the input from this USB function (like when in a remote terminal session for example on Windows, I did not try this with other operating systems), one has to switch apps to get it to respond. The headphone jack still doesn't work with Android headsets. I could forgive this with the older one, but for the current one it is unreasonable that I have to use an adapter for something as common as this. Headphone jack doesn't work May 5, 2016 This review is for the USB soundbar version. Works fine as a speaker, sound isnt amazing but definitely acceptable. I dont have the buzzing issue some have reported. However, the headphone jack on the side of the speaker does not work properly. Every time I plug in headphones (I have tried multiple pairs) the sound is very low. I have to fiddle with the plug, pulling/pushing it out/in until I find a sweet spot where audio plays normally. This is very annoying, and unfortunately something I didnt notice until after the return period expired. My specific unit is probably just defective as others dont seem to have this issue Unusable for aux-in audio source... February 13, 2016 Doesn't work as a general monitor speaker if you use the monitor for both a PC and a streaming box (Roku, Chromecast, FireTV, AppleTV, etc.). The aux-in port only functions when the USB is plugged into a active PC, which means you have to have both the PC and the streaming device on to listen to streaming. Plus, the volume control only affects USB input, not aux-in input. Very strange engineering choice.Lastly, it buzzes. I can not recommend this digital speaker January 29, 2016 This is not my first Dell sound bar that I have attached to a dell monitor. In fact this is my second. My last Dell monitor sound bar combo lasted me 11 or so years and I only upgraded to increase monitor size. So I without hesitation ordered this soundbar for my new monitor. The good:It attaches to the monitor and it provides sound. Sound good enough for daily work. I design elearning professionally and this is good enough to listen to the spoken work of my voice actors. The bad:The sound quality is what you would expect from a single speaker this size. Dont buy this for gaming or for listing to music or movies. Accept what this is and it is for productivity. The ugly:This speaker, unlike my last dell speaker attaches through USB. I was suspect about this because of other reviews but now I realize that it is a huge shortcoming of this speaker. Instead of a analog volume control that works independently of the system volume this speaker works through the system volume. The dial for volume on the speaker effects the system volume. But the problem is that sometimes the computer plays through the laptop speakers and sometimes through the dell soundbar. For example I just dialed on skype and instead of the sound coming through the dell speaker it played through the laptop speaker. The sound was blaring and system volume had no effect. I could not lower it. I had to scramble for headphones to plug into the laptop.I can not recommend the speaker for this reason. It would be much better as a analog speaker and not a USB connection. Not So Good. July 17, 2015 It fits perfectly to the bottom of my Dell Monitor, but it doesn't work with my MacMini as advertised. I had to contact Dell directly and was instructed to hook the Sound Bar directly to the computer via a USB extension instead of to the USB slot on the back of the monitor. Once it was working, the sound was tubby with no adjustment for the Hi or Low End signals, just volume up or down. Our $15 Altec Lansing speakers are better and plug directly into the monitor.. | 1% There are no reviews yet | 0% There are no reviews yet | 0% There are no reviews yet |
One Star Reviews: | 7% I think AM radio has better quality. I didn't expect much March 30, 2017 I think AM radio has better quality. I didn't expect much, but my little am/fm radio as a kid sounded better. I think some clock radios sound better. Only giving it a one star because I cannot give ... December 1, 2015 Only giving it a one star because I cannot give it a zero. The return policy is the pits! I had to pay more for shipping than the item is worth. Furthermore, in order to return it (low quality), I had to pay shipping again. I will just throw this piece of junk in the recycle bin where it belongs.Jim Bought this item since June, but just got a ... November 22, 2015 Bought this item since June, but just got a chance to open the box. The item is cracked and broken. The out of the box was not damaged, so this soundbar was definitely broken before shipping. Not worth it... April 22, 2015 I specifically got this speaker to use the headphone feature as I found myself stepping and pulling the cord out when plugged directly into the tower under my desk. Both ports will give feedback noises and distortion. If you want to use it as a Sound Bar Speaker beware from turning the volume anywhere near audible. Its a painful tweeter box. | 10% Weak Treble and Horrible Vocal Clarity - AVOID this product. September 8, 2017 Bought this thinking it would be just as good as my previous soundbar (AS501).After doing a side-by-side comparison between this AC511 and my old AS501,this AC511 lacks a LOT of voice clarity and treble, making it very difficult to follow news and television programs; it's only half as good as my old soundbar. I guess it'll okay for music lacking the need for vocal crispness. C'mon Dell: we expect better, such garbage. Volume knob broke April 23, 2017 The volume knob broke after one month. Just spins around and around and does nothing. Let down December 25, 2016 The sound is really poor I had to turn the computer speaker and the sound bar up to the maximum and I still cannot hear it on the other side of the room. Didn't work with my monitor, though reported to be ... November 18, 2016 Didn't work with my monitor, though reported to be a match. I wasn't able to return it since I'd just passed the deadline when I was finally able to attempt to install it. Defective May 22, 2016 Defective. It wouldn't play any sound from the 3.5mm audio input, which is exactly what I bought it for. The Dell P2715Q that I attached it to has an 3.5mm audio out, so I figured I'd just connect the monitor's audio out to the audio in of the soundbar. That just seems logical, no? It didn't work at all, so I returned it and found another solution. I'm not sure if it was that the particular unit I got was broken, or if it's just a bad design. I wound up using an alternate solution with an existing speaker I already had instead. | 5% There are no reviews yet | 0% There are no reviews yet | 0% There are no reviews yet |
