THE RIGHT SOUND
July 21, 2017
I've had this a few months now and really like. I delivers full sound, highs and lows. And was easy to mount to the wall with the provided hardware.

Great price. Very easy to setup and the sound is great. Very nice looking wood instead of the dark plastic. Adds a touch of class. Like the built in sub and 3D sound. All in all a terrific unit.

Powerful Sound.. Deep Bass..
March 17, 2017
The Vizio stand sound-bar provides impressingly rich sound and deep intimate bass in a all-in-one package your flat screen sits on.I've had this device for about a year or so now and I was moved to write a review because I am extremely pleased with this Vizio product and ever so glad I made this purchase. I had a Bose Solo (the first founders of the stand sound-bar--Vizio just improved upon their original design) that I sold because I didn't experience the amazing sound Bose is known for. It lacked bass and wasn't impressive enough. To top it off, it was expensive and I sold it for half price.I shopped around and decided to give this unit a chance. Satisfied doesn't even begin to explain my experience for this device. It's sound is present and there with you in every frame of the film. The lows tones make you jump as the dedicated bass driver claims the room with deep sounds. Though at times I think the bass can over power the speech of the actors. Not to worry, this is adjustable to your hearts desire. The sound-bar doubles as a Bluetooth speaker too. An awesome feature your sure to love.All-in-all this item falls into my list of Top 10 Favorite Purchases. A list that's hard to get on and is shared with my Apple iMac, Philips Hue lights and my Home Sweet Home.If your thinking twice about getting this unit, don't be at all. It will pack the punch you need at a slight premium cost, even with Amazon prices. It's not surround sound so don't think 5 or 7 speakers can be replaced by one device. Such a think doesn't even make common sense.I would highly recommend this sound system to all my friends and family members easily. CHECK IT OUT!
Should not be set up near your PC tower
July 16, 2015
I listened to more than 16,000 songs on Pandora last year. I get the upgraded high quality sound on Pandora with the subscription. I added this sound system and it makes an outstanding upgrade in listening quality. It is like a live performance in the room. I did not want a system that blasts my neighbors. I live in an apartment complex and after 3 weeks I have not had any complaints. The system sends out sound waves in a vortex and I had it close to my PC. My hard drive died after 3 days due to the close proximity to this. I had to add a cork liner to my PC tower and foam sound panels around the PC tower to stop the sound from damaging my hard drive. The new hard drive has been operating fine with the new protections. When I had the sound system playing and I put my hand on the PC tower I could feel the waves going through the metal chassis to my hand. I kept trouble shooting until I could no longer feel the vibrations going to my tower. I hope my experience helps you in setting up your systems with some caution.
VIZIO S2121w-D0 2.1 Sound Stand
February 13, 2015
Reading some of the other reviews, I was hesitant to buy this. Granted, it does have a lot of bass. Personally, I turned the treble to maximum and the bass to near minimum and it's working out great! I do have to admit that going from crappy TV speakers to the sound stand was a real shock to the ears and at first it did seem overly bassy but try this ....after a week or so with the sound stand, watch TV with your internal TV speakers again and you'll understand the HUGE improvement! It's like listening on a tin can with a string. Trust me, you won't want to go back. It's worth it!
Big sound. Little price.
February 10, 2015
Surprisingly good sound, from a small package. Previously, I had a Vizio sound stick, and wasn't impressed. The sound quality from the stand is heads above the stick and a huge improvement over the already decent sound in my Samsung 46" LED TV.I'm regularly surprised at the sound "dispersion" of the unit. I regularly hear sounds coming from my far right, or left. Other times, it's unclear where exactly the sound is coming from, but it doesn't sound like it's directly in front of you.I'm not sure if the quality is related to connecting via TOSlink, vs standard RCA cables but I'm linked via the included optical fiber cable.(Note: The included optical cable is, though adequate for connecting, proving a bit short if you need to maneuver the TV after hookup.)The unit has a reasonably good downward-firing woofer. When placing the stand on a wooden TV table, for example, it will reverberate through the table, like a passive radiator. My downstairs neighbors weren't a fan of the newly found bass, so I added two slabs of marble tile, under the unit (~1/2" total), to deaden the bass. Worked like a charm and the bass is tighter too.Bluetooth easily connects to my iPhone for playing music or podcasts.I can't compare the quality to more expensive units, but I find it's well worth the price to upgrade from standard TV speakers.

Just what I wanted. My 46" Vizio TV sits very nicely on top of the sound bar and the sound quality is decidedly different than using just the TV speakers. You may want to experiment with leaving the TV speakers ON along with the sound bar or turning them OFF just having the sound come from the bar. All around good choice. Glad VIZIO came out with this product.
This product sounds great and is versatile
August 25, 2014
I bought this for a 32" LCD TV that has a digital optical output on the back, so I used the included optical cord to hook the TV to the sound stand. (It was a nice touch for VIZIO to include all the cords that could be possibly be used to connect to the TV.) This is a small TV for a small living room, so the S2121w-DO is a good fit. After figuring out how to set and adjust the treble and bass on the sound stand, the sound coming out is crisp and rich. You can use all the different inputs/cables to hook up other components directly to the sound stand if you want, but I found that the sound coming in to the TV by HDMI from a Blu-ray and an HD DVD player, and then output through the TV's optical output to the sound stand, sounded just fine. Another nice thing is that when you turn on the TV, the sound stand will turn on as you adjust the volume on your TV's remote. Also when you are done watching TV and shut it off, the sound stand will turn off on it's own after a few minutes. That means, for me at least, that once you tweak the sound to your liking on the sound stand's remote control, you really don't have to use anything other than the TV's remote thereafter. I'm very pleased with the sound of this product for a small room.

Great Sound for The Price!
July 20, 2015
I purchased this during the Amazon's Prime Day Sale for $99, and for the price, I do not regret it. I have this thing hooked up to my 28" LG TV which in turn has a PS4, and my PC connected to it through HDMI cables. I then run an Digital Optic cable to the sound stand.

PROS:
- Really nice clean sound. I had some trouble messing with the EQ settings on my PC to get the right sound out of it, but after a while the overall sound is very decent. You will not fill up a stadium with it, but I can walk to my kitchen (40 ft) and still hear whatever is playing clearly.
- It looks nice, and it is NOT heavy.
- Very easy to set up and it comes with EVERY cable you can need for this, as long as you are running a more recent TV to it that is.
- Bluetooth syncing is a very welcome addition to the sound stand. Although this is not necessary, it makes for a very nice addition to the sound stand.

CONS:
- It runs a little heavy on the Bass while listening to music ONLY. Like I mentioned earlier, I had to mess with the EQ setting while playing music because it had more bass than I like. This is something that is not present while watching movies, video games, or podcasts though.
- Although the sound is very good, it does distort at higher volumes.

I will update this review if anything changes, but so far I am very pleased with this purchase. VIZIO has proven themselves to be a very dependable brand, at least with my friends and family, so if anything changes you can make sure I will let you guys know. Hope this review helps!
Not sure I liked it at first, it's an acquired taste, now it's a keeper
June 30, 2015
At first my wife and I were disappointed with the sound of this unit. We were looking for speakers that would make dialogue clearer (especially from DVDs) and our initial impression was that spoken words had a muddy sound from the Vizio sound stand. Part of our reaction was not understanding that any after-market speaker will give a richer, bass-i-er sound than your TV's speakers, and it takes a while to get used to. Reason No. 2 is that the default bass setting is too much, IMHO. Reason No. 3 is that we had the TruVolume and TruSurround switched on.

So we turned the bass waaaay down, turned the treble up, and switched off the TruVolume and TruSurround. While the TruVolume and TruSurround accomplish their functions, it seems to me they process the sound to an extent that voices are "flattened" out and do not project from the speakers the way we would like. With those functions switched off, the speakers are giving us what we want.

Now if we could just figure out how to program our cable remote to adjust the volume on the Vizio Sound Stand!
Great for the bedroom or home office.
January 27, 2015
This product was a bit tricky to set-up even though I read the instructions carefully. The problem is that it doesn't have an LCD display, so it took about 5 unites of trouble-shooting until I hit jackpot. The sound is pretty good though not anywhere close to my my Bose home theater system, but that was not what I was expecting anyway. I found the factory setting to be a bit base-heavy, so I adjusted my TV's EQ which made it balanced and more natural sounding. You should also not expect the deep subwoofer base from this unit as I believe that its range is at the top end of the subwoofer spectrum. Anyway, I'm happy with the purchase--as I didn't care for the feeble sound emitting from my 32" Vizio TV in my bedroom.
Huge improvement over TV speakers. Good Sound Quality.
January 4, 2015
Like some of the others I purchased this unit because I was very unhappy with the built in speakers on my new LCD TV. The built in speakers on my older 8 year old Samsung LCD worked fine but as TV manufactures looked for ways to make their new TVs less expensive and thinner/lighter they started using smaller, cheaper speakers that sound absolutely terrible. Before buying this sound stand we had to turn the volume way up in order to hear anything and this often caused sound distortion and made the speakers sound "tinny" which made watching TV very frustrating (especially while watching sports.) After hooking up this sound stand we are now able to hear everything much better without having to crank up the volume and the sound quality is MUCH better. I also have a regular Vizio sound bar hooked up to a second LCD TV and while I feel that the regular sound bar has better sound for TV use it is almost 4 feet wide and does not have a built in subwoofer like this unit. This unit is compact and lightweight (21"x"16"x"3") so it is very easy to place it in areas that a traditional sound bar may not fit.

As I indicated before my primary reason for purchasing this unit was to use it as my TV speaker system but I also wanted to be able to play music on it since we don't have a stereo system in our family room. I was easily able to pair this unit to my Nokia phone via Bluetooth and stream music without issue but when I paired the unit with an external bluetooth transmitter hooked to my TV it would only emit a loud humming sound. I have a small wireless bluetooth speaker that I use in the shower and when I tested it on the same TV it worked without issue so I know the bluetooth transmitter hooked to the TV works without issue. My assumption is that the bluetooth version used by the transmitter hooked to the TV is older while this speaker uses a newer bluetooth version which is incompatible. Since my TV sits directly on top of the sound stand I just ended up using an optical cable instead and this is probably best since many people have reported that TV audio that is transmitted via bluetooth is often out of sync with the picture. I still would have liked to have seen how well bluetooth TV audio works for myself and to test it just in case I ever decided to move the sound stand further away from the TV without wires but I'm not going to buy a new bluetooth transmitter ($30) just to test my theory.

Overall I am happy with unit and will keep it but in terms of sound quality itself I would only classify it as being "very good" not "great" which is exactly what I would expect from a unit in this price range. At my time of purchase Amazon was offering $20 off the price for PRIME members for a total of $147 with free shipping which I consider to be a good deal. If you are a sound snob and demand "excellent" sound from a sound stand be prepared to pay $150-$300 more for a more premium branded unit from Bose, JBL, Klipsch, etc. For the price I paid I don't think I could find a better unit. As a bonus I was also able to program both my Comcast DVR remote as well as my TIVO Roamio remotes to control this unit which means I only need to use one remote now which was a huge concern to me (I've provided instructions at the bottom on how to program the Comcast remote (Motorola)

PROS:

1. Very affordable unit with "GOOD" quality sound for both TV and music.

2. Includes basic remote control / Also able to program Tivo and Comcast Remotes to control unit.

3. Compact size and lightweight, Easy to place in areas where large sound bars may not fit (21"x"16"x"3")

4. Dolby Sound Decoding (some other units do not decode Dolby sound and require purchase of extenal analog converter)

5. Built in subwoofer means better quality sound over traditional sounds bars when playing music

CONS:

1. Cheap Plastic Construction

2. No HDMI input

3. No LCD display (uses a series of LED light patterns on front of unit which are difficult to learn/understand without reference)

4. Sound quality for TV use is much improved over built in TV speakers but not quite as good as regular sound bar.

5. Finicky Bluetooth - Bluetooth worked perfect with my phone but only gave loud humming sound with bluetooth transmitter attached to my TV.

REMOTE PROGRAMMING:

For the TIVO remote just follow the standard on-screen instructions under "remote settings" for programming an external audio receiver and select VIZIO as the brand (remote code 1180)

The Comcast remote setup was a little more tricky but the steps below worked for me on the standard Motorola DVR unit (grey remote with red OK button)

Aux - Setup (2 blinks) - 11144 (2 blinks)
Aux - Setup (2 blinks) - 994 - Setup - 00169 - Vol Up - Should get 2 blinks
Aux - Setup (2 blinks) - 994 - Setup - 00168 - Vol Down - Should get 2 blinks
Aux - Setup (2 blinks) - 994 - Setup - 00037 - Mute - Should get 2 blinks
Aux - Setup (2 blinks) - 994 - Setup - 00165 - Power - Should get 2 blinks
Aux - Setup (2 blinks) - 994 - Setup - 00164 - Input - Should get 2 blinks
Won't recognize the TV sound signal sometimes--does work with a better optical cable
November 19, 2014
The sound quality and set up is easy as everyone has said. What was not mentioned is that every now and then the Sound Stand won't recognize the signal from my TV. I have a VIZIO TV so you'd think they would be compatible. There isn't a manual power/device button, so the only option is to unplug/plug the Sound Stand. Then it works again.

I have resorted to running a power strip with an on/off switch out where I can easily power on/off.

*** Edit to add ***
In another review it was mentioned that the optical connection is sub-par and should be replaced. I did that and now the sound bar recognizes the TV with no issues. Changed my review to 4 stars. The sound is very good for such a small footprint and with the new connection this is a great sound bar for the price.

The sound is nice, but the remote does not work
December 25, 2016
The sound is nice, but the remote does not work. You need to use the buttons on the unit itself for adjustments. If the unit is turned up on full volume, you can use your tv remote to adjust, but it shouldn't have to work that way. Overall good sound, but poor access to make adjustments. Came with open box and no cables, listing said new, nothing about open box., Wrote to vendor who did send cables right away.so they were received within a week.
Terrible customer service from Vizio

Works Once You Update the Software!
September 14, 2015
As far as the sound goes, I like it just fine. The sound separation is adequate and the bass comes through nicely for a unit this size. My only complaint is that it needed a software update to keep it from "forgetting" the remote control and requiring me to manually turn it on and manually change the volume. My first call to Visio tech support taught me how to do a hard reset and get operating again. My second call to Visio tech support was met with amazement that the first call hadn't initiated the software update process. Go figure. Anyway, once they send you a USB stick with the new software update, everything has been working fine. So, if you buy one of these and have remote control issues, skip straight to the point and ask for the software update the first time you call... If not for that issue I would give it 5 stars instead of 3 for the hassle.
Great sound with a couple of easily fixed design faults
July 23, 2015
I like the sound on this, especially over the built-in speakers for our JVC flat-screen. I can actually hear dialog, and don't need to constantly adjust volume. A problem I encountered was that it had an issue with the remote not being recognized nor responded to if the sound stand had been sitting powered off for a bit. Checking the website led me to a firmware update for the sound stand that fixed the problem. As noted elsewhere in the reviews, depending on how heavy or solid your TV is, if you use this as a stand there may be a slight rattle with deep bass noises, a bit of shelf liner between the sound stand and the TV eliminates that problem as well.

So overall, the sound is great, the inclusion of all necessary cables makes hook-up easy. A couple of design issues notwithstanding, it's a good improvement over stock TV speakers.

Firmware update can be located here: https://support.vizio.com/product/s2121w-d0

Scoring:
+3 Does what it says
+1 Great sound quality
+1 Multiple connection types with cables included
-1 Remote issues (fixable)
-1 A bit of a rattle with deep bass (fixable)
This sound stand has better sound than I anticipated
January 29, 2015
This sound stand has better sound than I anticipated. It's perfect for an apartment living room. I had a bit of trouble with the set-up and called tech support...they asked me for my TV model # and was able to walk me through the set-up. I've only had this sound stand for a couple of weeks and the remote stopped working. I replaced the batteries and it still didn't work. I called tech support again and had to unplug the stand from the power source, press the on button and hold it for 30 seconds, etc., etc. Then take the batteries out of the remote, press all the buttons on the remote one time, put the batteries back in the remote and then it WORKED. I asked the tech if this was going to continue to happen and he said this was an issue they are having with some of the Visio sound stands and that I can have them replace it. So now I have an email address at Visio to send my receipt to and they are going to ship me another one. Along with they are supposed to send shipping instructions where they pay for the old one to be shipped back. I have to provide them with my credit card info as a "hold" until they receive the old one, then they will release the hold.

So far I have to say even though I'm satisfied with the sound, I'm not happy with going through having to return it and get a new one. Hopefully there will be no more issues after this. :)

Disappointed
May 8, 2016
This product is a poor choice to add sound to a flat screen TV. Although it is easy to set up and fits well with the TV, the bass sound is distorted at even a moderate volume. Even when the bass is set below zero, the bass is distorted and causes much vibration. There is virtually no setting to enhance the dialogue and the other settings are useless.
Visio Sound Stand
March 14, 2016
Remote stopped working in a month. I need the sound to be loud because I watch TV while on a treadmill & when the sound is loud enough for me to hear, it is a bit muffled sounding and difficult to understand. As in many of the other reviews, I have trouble adjusting the base to a satisfactory level, but without the remote, I am unable to even attempt to adjust further. And I am having some lip sync problems that I cannot get adjusted. One of the supplied audio connectors broke while I was trying to change around the connections to adjust for the lip sync. I ordered Vizio because that is the brand of my television so I thought there would be better compatibility. I have ordered a new universal remote & audio connecter and am hoping that, if it works with my sound stand, that I can do further adjustments and hopefully get things working better. It has been very frustrating.
Terrible Control
February 16, 2016
This is not a good unit. I have no idea why it gets such great reviews. The sound is bad--not necessarily the power or the clarity, but the EQ. The user is only allowed to adjust bass and treble leaving you with a hollowed-out mid-range. Every movie we watched was overpowering when sound FX and music were playing and faintly audible for dialog. I watched "Star Wars: A New Hope" and I kept having to crank the sound up when the characters were speaking and then quickly dial it down during a dog-fight or explosion because it was ear-shattering. Imagine doing that for two hours. Newer movies were not as bad, but that hardly redeems this unit. I mean this is a major flaw.

Another problem was the volume adjustment increments. Whenever I dialed the volume up or down, no matter how precise I was, it always sounded just a little too loud or a little too quiet. SO aggravating....

Pros: Seamless Bluetooth connectivity with my iPad. (Although same problem playing music--vocals overpowered by the instruments.) Aesthetically appealing.

Do not be fooled by the reviews from novice ears. Spend a little more money and get something better.
Bought on deep discount, got deep disappointment.
August 17, 2015
Anything above medium volume causes audio resonance, so unless you sit 2 feet away from your tv than this will be a large issue. Many reviews complain of a non existent mid range, I cannot stress how true this is. I figured most people had no ear for bass or any sort of range but dialogue is very hard to hear and the bass itself isn't even that great! It sounds so flat, so muffled, so underwhelming.

The promised "2.1 in one" experience is nonexistent. The stand doesn't even ATTEMPT to bounce sound waves off the walls or any of the sort, people talking on the left only slightly seem like they are actually on the left side of you as the same with the right. It practically sounds like everything is coming from the speaker with no bias toward left or right, dollar store headphones will give you a better experience in that right. There are settings that emulate DTS audio but they seem to vary heavily, I would have it ON for some songs and have it OFF for movies. It would 'seperate' the sound and it did just that, but in a very odd way because some songs were ruined and others seemed normal(compared to my older sound system).

Since Bass is a big issue I will say that part of the product is complete garbage. Bass is not just WUUUUUBBBB, yet people walking along a wood floor in a house during a movie sounds like a monster pounding it's fists into the dirt; songs that weren't that heavy with bass now sound muffled.

Conclusion: Stick to your tv speakers, you know what you are getting with that. If anything it sounds the same, this stand reminded me of my brothers old big screen CRT that had huge speakers on the side that would give everything the 'movie' type of volume. I bought this for $107.99 during Amazon's Prime day sale and don't even feel like it was worth that price!

Not sure this was worth the money. Purchased because of the reviews and already have a Vizio HDTV.
No problem with hookup, but the setup is a little difficult. You will need to read the instructions to figure out the magic led codes for setting up the unit. And about a month after setup, the remote quit working. Had to call support and was advised it's a software problem! Which is bound to happen again. Had to power off the base unit and remove batteries from remote wait 30 seconds and power on. Fixed the issue but should not have happened.

July 20, 2016
I ordered this because it was supposed to have good sound and easy to set up. It may work for some people but it would not communicate with my TV. It was only two connections one for power and one for sound. All the lights came on and the remote that came with the box seemed to work but the remote with my TV or Cable box would not connect to the box therefore not sound from my TV. The problem my be my TV but it still didn't work for me. I had to return it. Purchased from another provider.

Buyer Beware...
February 10, 2017
For $209.00 this Vizio S2121wD0 2.1 Channel Sound Stand should have lasted longer than Two (2) Years! Just today, the "Remote Receiver" on the unit itself stopped working. I know it's the "Receiver" portion, because One (1) I own a "Transmitter" checker and Two (2) because my Vizio remote for my TV (which also controls the sound bar) is working. So for "longevity" and "Quality", this sound bar is a "ZERO STAR"!

As far as "Sound Quality", my only complaint is for the "Sound Leveling"... AGAIN "ZERO STAR". Whether the "Sound Leveling" is "On or Off", I STILL had to constantly adjust the volume control... And quite honestly, THIS Is The One Thing That Is Most Important To Me When Viewing My TV; Keeping The Sound At A Constant Level.

Bottom line; Buyer Beware...
Remote problems and lousy ergonomics
February 6, 2017
I'm writing this review nearly 18 months after the purchase. The last 6+ months I've had nothing but problems with this unit. The primary problem has been with the remote. Initially, the remote would not turn the unit on. I would pull the power cord from the sound bar and the remote worked properly for a few days. I allowed this to go on for a few months. I called Vizio tech support. They were nice but not too helpful. I replaced the batteries. I removed the batteries then pushed every button twice, per tech support guidance, and no effect. I even purchased a new remote and it did not work at all. I also did not like the location of the inputs, in the very back, recessed underneath the unit. If you place a TV on the sound bar and have issues, like I did, it is a hassle. I do not recommend this unit.
100 Dollar BRICK!!!
June 30, 2016
I purchased this item to replace a Vizio sound bar because I wanted to add some bass. Well even though I like bass this system was not a good balance with treble as the bass was overpowering even with it set to the lowest possible level. The solution for that was simply to combine the normal TV volume with the systems bass so don't look for this system to replace your TV volume altogether.

After about two months the unit started to not function with the remote. I verified that the remote had batteries and even used it on my old Vizio sound bar and it worked fine (so it's not the remote). I get impatient really easy and can't afford to get my blood pressure up so I just stopped using it after just a few months. I had a few occasions where I had company over and had to go lifting the entire unit out of my entertainment center to search for power buttons which there are none. This was very embarrassing for me since I'm normally known as the guy with cool tech. The only way I could get the unit to work was to unplug it and then plug it back in which I will not do for every use, imagine if someone actually had there TV on top of it? I know your thinking I could just unplug it from the wall but that would require moving the entire entertainment center which I set things up not to have to do.

Finally tiday I said let's see if they stand by their product because otherwise I feel like I bought a 100 dollar brick. Immediately my return request was denied of course because the defect doesn't occur until after the return limit.

Look do yourself a favor DO NOT purchase this item. If you're trying to be cheap like I was just put a little more money with it and treat yourself to something hopefully better. Vizio has been a brand that I have a lot of trust in but this product makes me never want to buy an audio item from them again.
Remote Control issues are a big drawback.
January 19, 2016
Same issue as others here. The remote stopped working after a couple of weeks. I've followed the troubleshooting instructions and reset the sound stand itself as well as the remote. Still have to reset it every time and even then sometimes it won't work. Soundwise it's not bad but as others have mentioned the bass is too heavy even turned all the way down. 2nd Vizio product I've been disappointed with.

Update: I updated the firmware as suggested by the Vizio site: https://support.vizio.com/s/article/S2121w-D0-Remote-Firmware-Update
The responsiveness of the remote is still random. Pressing buttons multiple times sometimes works and sometimes doesn't.

2nd Update: Be careful who you buy from. I called Vizio about the issue and because it was sold by GearBrokers, they won't honor the warranty even though I bought it here on Amazon. I could understand if it was stated as refurbished, but it was not. Very disappointed with Vizio.

This is a replacement. 1st one the remote stopped functioning after 3 weeks. Replaced completely with new one, exact model. New remote on new unit stopped working after 3 days. Same issue. It's a problem within the unit not the remote control. The original unit's remote worked on the replacement unit verifying the issue is in the stand and not the remote. The stand sounds great, very sturdy for holding my 32" TV, but it's a real imposition having to use the manual controls. Amazon was prompt in replacing the original. I would suggest a different manufacturer and don't mix brands. My TV is a Sony
