Best Dollar for the sound bar that I have found for my Sony TV!
July 6, 2016
Best Dollar for the sound bar that I have found for my Sony TV. I was a little concerned at buying a sound bar until I saw all the rave reviews here online for this Sound Bar. All true, what full rich sound that is so close to Surround Sound, that it made me fee like I was at Imax watching a movie.

One caveat, I think the instructions are not the best for setup. The quick setup suggests using the optical cable as your connection from the TV to the Sound Bar, I setup it up that way and the quality of sound was not very good. Also since I didn't plug in the HDMI ARC, the TV was not controlling the sound bar.

After setting up a friends a few months ago, I knew it was best to hook up an HDMI cable to the ARC input. Hooked everything up and connected the PS3, TIVO and my Security DVR to the Sound bar. Turned on the TV and was not getting any signal from the sound bar. The TV showed that it did switch to the External Sound Bar speakers.

Remember to use a High Speed HDMI cable. As soon as I swapped out the cable to the High Speed HDMI, everything worked perfect. The sounds are rich, bass is awesome loud and voices are clear.

Another Awesome Sony product
Wonderful Outstanding Product

This is an outstanding product. I have a 50" Sony TV that is wall mounted, and I wanted to "hang" the Sound Bar from the bottom of the TV, but I did not necessarily want to install it on the wall under the TV. I bought the Sewell Direct Universal Sound Bar Bracket with the purchase of this Sony Sound Bar, and was able to easily "hang" the Sound Bar from the wall mounted TV in a matter of minutes (20-30 minutes). The Sound Bar comes with a wall mounting bracket that has two "keyholes" that would have to align perfectly if installed on a wall, like hanging a picture or clock that has a keyhole slot for the screw to slip into. I did not like that option, and found that the Sound Bar keyhole brackets can be unbolted from the Sound Bar leaving two threaded bolt holes for your use. I inserted the Sewell Universal Sound Bar Bracket in between the TV's two rear bottom holes and the wall mount bracket, then tightened them up a bit. I now had the Sewell hanging below the wall mounted TV. With the help of a partner holding the Sony Sound Bar up, I aligned the two threaded bolt holes at the rear of the Sound Bar to the Universal bracket. Using the bolts from the now removed Sound Bar keyhole brackets, I then attached the sound Bar onto the Universal bracket, and "hung" it below the TV. I have AC outlets behind the TV and so my installation is clean with all cables running inside the wall. But, keep in mind you will need an AC outlet to plug your Sound Bar into. If installing on a table, then the installation is super easy, but wall mounting takes some thought. Now, for the sound quality, volume, and features. Excellent! The sub-woofer being blue tooth is outstanding because you can place the woofer anywhere in the room (it needs an AC outlet). The Sound Bar produces great sound that can be applied to different situations such as music, games, sports, or movies. One of the things I love about this product is the Blue Tooth AUX setting where I paired my phone with it and now can play anything from my phone on the sound Bar. I highly recommend this product.
Perfect Soundbar/Receiver!

I also own the HT-CT770 which is a bit longer and a larger sub-woofer, not worth it to me because this unit is awesome. It just works and the 3 hdmi inputs is perfect for the TV, BluRay and Apple TV. When playing a BR disc the subwoofer rattles the walls of you want. It is controlled independently and is wireless except for the power plug. I bought this one for my upstairs media room and it is perfect. I don't think upgrading to the new unit of this device would be worth it because there are only design changes that I know of. I also like the Bluetooth connectivity for quick music plays from my iPhone.
nice for the price. sony=quality
December 11, 2014
Sounds great in a mid size livingroom. Sounds a little tinny at low volume but fills out nicely at moderate volume. Easy setup subwoofer paired flawlessly. Nice opinions for the price. Remote is a good size and has good options. Not like those cheap micro remotes that are becoming more common. Bluetooth feature is awesome. You can set the system to automatically wake when you use your paired device. Sweet. I got this to replace a $1500 Denon surrounds sound setup that my two year old was threatening to destroy and I was not too optimistic. Happy to say I am very pleased for the time being.
This sound bar was perfect to complement a newly bought 55-inch Sony XBR55X850B
September 13, 2014
This sound bar was perfect to complement a newly bought 55-inch Sony XBR55X850B. With low 2'' profile it fits perfectly under TV w/o obstructing a remote, and looks good there, too. A significant improvement over TV own speakers and the combination is much cheaper price-wise compare to another TV version with better built-in speakers -900A/B (the latter is more beautiful though, with its longer body and gorilla glass over invisible frame).

But, as I said, it does the trick and makes the experience of watching TV much more pleasant. I don't want to focus on various tech features here, there plenty of them, I see a lot of people have already contributed to that in much more detail that I would care about, but want to say that if you are a real audiophile and dream to play really high quality music you will be disappointed (You know, people spend thousands on equipment to get the sounds that only they can hear and appreciate). This piece is great for what it's worth and deserves its 5 stars, and I would not spend 5x more on Sony or Yamaha sound projectors for that purpose (unless it was for much bigger TV and room). And it's still good for streaming music from your smart phone or tablet through BT on occasion (that's what I do at the moment, feels good).

Just one thing was a bit spooky, when I originally connected the bar to TV through supplied fiber optic connector and it started skipping sound. I never used optical connectors before and found that slightly touching or wiggling cable near the connector's head would cause the skipping or full cut-off. So I went by HDMI ARC and that took care of a problem, besides that when you use it the bar takes over TV speakers automatically. Faulty fiber cable, loose connectors? Don't ask, not going to use it anymore, outdated anyway.

Solid, space-saving unit
January 10, 2016
This is a nice little unit. The remote has only a dedicated Netflix button for those of us that are app users. It is a smaller remote that has a good button layout.Be mindful that the BDPBX350 and this unit for comparison purposes are the same unit. The X350 comes with an HDMI cable, whereas this unit does NOT.Highlights:-Very small footprint-flat surfaces [if you're limited on space you are able to stack on top of other devices] consider the exhaust vents of course.-loads blu-ray and dvds quickly. I've got an old unit that loads annoyingly slow. This is not the case here.-sounds great on my 5.1 surround via HDMI connection.-has WiFi [which means you can connect it to your wireless or wired connection for streaming and doing firmware updates]-front usb slot. This unit so far has played every video format I have tossed at it from video files on my pc that I have loaded to my flash drive.-it does have a weak resume feature but it will reset if certain events occur: you open the disc tray, you remove the USB device, or you turn the device off. Don't expect much out of this feature and it will serve you well.Overall, nice running unit that I hope continues to run for years to come.
Excellent player No update issues Trouble free video streaming

Trouble free software updateJuly 2nd 2015... Had this Blu-ray/DVD player up and running in 15 minutesI connected it to my Xfinity X1 Wi-Fi box with Ethernet cable (wired connection)and had NO issues with software update. The DVD picture quality is excellentThe Blu-Ray picture is also excellentThere is a usb port on the front of the playerThat worked perfectly viewing pictures and mp4 videosI decided to keep it hard wired thru the Ethernet cable andtested streaming video from the internet...All the sites I visited worked great: Amazon instant video,Youtube,Crackle,I don't have Netflix or Roku, so I can't verify those.I would advise future buyers to watch streaming videobefore/after prime time hours (5pm-10pm) as watchingstreaming video during prime time for some reason the picture qualityis not good during those hours...GREAT BLU-RAY/DVD/USB/STREAMING VIDEO PLAYER!
Updated Review of Replacement Item
June 14, 2015
After an extremely disappointing experience with the first unit I purchased, I decided not to struggle with trying to get support to fix it and instead contacted Amazon. They replaced the defective unit immediately with another of the same item, as it was exactly what I wanted and I believe in the quality of Sony's products so I didn't want to just get something different without giving it another chance. The replacement arrived quickly and setup went smoothly. So far, it's performed as expected, plays Blu-rays and DVDs and I haven't had any further problems. Perhaps the original one I received that failed after one use was simply a defective unit; obviously when tens of thousands of electronic gadgets are produced there are bound to be problems once in awhile. Amazon's policy of taking care of its customers has never failed me, and my personal feeling is "if I can't get it on Amazon, I don't need it!" As far as Sony electronics, my opinion of them as one of the highest quality one can own has not changed because of my one negative experience. Now on to the details of the product itself.I purchased this particular model because of its capability to be a PS3 in addition to a superb wireless Blu-ray player. I haven't had an opportunity to use the PS3 feature yet as I haven't purchased the Dual Shock controller necessary to operate this function. With respect to the Blu-ray function, the picture quality exceeds expectations. I'm using it with a 42" Vizio Smart TV with Vizio sound bar and subwoofer. The sheer number of online services available via the wireless Blu-ray player is nothing short of astonishing; in fact, there are so many I haven't even had time to try all of them. The unit plays both Blu-ray discs and regular DVD discs with outstanding picture quality, color, sharpness, and detail, so much so that I cannot discern the difference in the two even when I viewed a Blu-ray and then a DVD back-to-back. Setup was a breeze; it only took 5 minutes, software upgrade included. Pretty much plug and play was the way this one went. I am very pleased and more than satisfied with both this purchase and the way Amazon handled the replacement of the defective unit.
Far More than Your Dad's DVD Player
May 1, 2015
Great unit with WiFi or wired Internet. Streaming apps are plentiful, including Netflix and Amazon. Quiet & fast BD enjoyment. Sony remote syncs with Bravia TV (possibly more). Throw YouTube from your smartphone to your TV for easy searching. Playstation Now offers rental gaming. Can't think of one criticism. Compact unit fits anywhere. Requires HDMI, so not for older TVs or older stereo receivers.UPDATE: Aug 28, 2015. The WiFi was originally difficult to connect, but I diagnosed that the location of the router was too far away and moved the router closer with success. However, the WiFi died today and would absolutely not reconnect. This unit was in a vacation home with very minimal use, so the failure mirrors many of the negative reviews.I have tried everything including updating software, WPS connecting, shutting down, etc. Even tried a second router using wifi to no avail.I did get the unit to stream, however, with a wired connection. Because I did not have wiring to the area, I used an extender router to pick up a wifi signal at that location, then connecting a cable from the extender to the Sony player.I'm reluctantly leaving my review at 5 stars because this defect could occur to any manufacturer despite their best intentions and Sony would likely replace the unit under warranty. I can't really speculate on the frequency of this problem.I do love the unit and think I have solved the problem by a direct wired connection.
After update, it's most superb!

Sony has finally provided a Blu-Ray DVD player for dedicated Sony users. But, you need to update the software?! Having read several Amazon reviews, I went to the website before receiving the delivery and closely reviewed the update procedures. Sony "highly recommends" updating using the online procedure, but I downloaded the Windows version in case I needed it. The file was a zip file of 122.89 MB; the unzipped file was the same. Opening the product's box, I carefully setup the DVD player (physically), had my wireless password in hand, and started up the new machine. From one of the reviews, I was concerned about the apps. When I started one, I was sent into the updating process. There were two successive cycles: the first was so quick I missed the screen's content, but the second listed "104,874 kb" during a five minute process.Using Netflix and Amazon apps (after identifying myself), the picture appeared unfaded, and - at or near - the tv's highest resolution - unlike the Roku. Playing several standard DVDs, I found the picture to be quite pleasing. In both cases, the consistency and quality of the picture made me a happy Sony user. The interface at HOME is not quite user-friendly. However, Sony has moved forward in this area. The quality of the DVD machine is exemplary and I highly recommend it, especially for those who have a considerable non-Blu-Ray library.

Quick, responsive, and plays SACDs. If you want streaming get the Amazon Fire TV.
October 31, 2016
I don't need 3D or 4K, but reasoned that the horsepower required for these features would make the basic unit quicker, more responsive, etc. This is the case. The unit loads quickly and smoothly, much more responsively than the older Sony Blu-Ray player it replaced. But the real reason I purchased this is that it plays SACD's, connecting to a receiver over an HDMI cable. It detects the capability of the receiver to which it is connected, and sends DSD or converts it to PCM if the receiver does not accept DSD. My old Yamaha receiver does recognize DSD, so I believe I'm hearing the same quality as the 5-RCA-cable analog connection I needed before, with the convenience of a single HDMI cable. So this compact unit replaced two players, the older Sony Blu-Ray player and an SACD player.Don't lose the remote--you can't play SACD's without it. You don't need to have the TV powered to listen to SACD's but you do need to hit the play button on the remote to get things started.EDIT after 9 months:I still love this for playing BR and SACD discs, but if you want streaming get the Amazon Fire, It's a bargain at $40 and clearly it has more streaming horsepower than this player, not surprising since it's single-purpose. The reason I switched is that this player streams slowly, often buffering, and it sometimes gets confused when I try to initiate streaming. Sometimes it says it can't stream because there is a disc in the player, whether there is or not. Why should it care if I've pressed the "Netflix" button whether a disc is present or not? The Amazon Fire is superior in every way (super wireless remote) and a joy to use.
Excellent single disk player
January 29, 2016
This player has done everything it was advertised to do. The 4K and 3D upscaling are top notch. It comes with a very large assortment of popular apps that work well. DVD, Blu-Ray, and Blu-Ray 3D disks all load quickly and play seamlessly. Configuration is a snap and video adjustment during playback is quite useful. I especially liked the ability to tweak the "depth" setting in 3D play back as my wife and I have different visions and while the image was sharp in all the settings for her I had to adjust the depth on some 3D videos to focus vertical background elements.A couple of notes on things that didn't quite work the way I expected them to:1) you can not watch movies from Vudu and upscale them to 3D with this unit... the menu that you would normally get to the 3D viewing options through brings up the Vudu menu... but my TV can also 3D upscale - so wasn't an issue for me2) If you have another Sony Blu-Ray player, the remote control codes will conflict (even an older ones)... This unit has no setting to shift the IR Codes to other code sets. Some older Sony Blu-Ray players have the ability to use one of three IR Code Sets: BD1, BD2, and BD3 - this unit uses BD1 (the default for all Sony Players). Make sure you understand your options with the conflict.
Yes it is REAL 4k!
January 20, 2016
4k upscaling is outstanding with any 4k tv that supports 1080p/24p! To turn on 4k, set your 4k output setting to auto 2 because auto 1 is 2k only. Also make sure 24p is selected to auto for bluray and dvd. You do this and motion will be flawless and resolution will be breathtaking! Yes you are cropping a 1080 picture to 4k resolution..but the crop is barely noticeable, super worth it, and you hold true 4k resolution clarity(not size due to cropping.no big deal)! Jupiter Ascending was unreal and the same could be said for the legend of korra..which looked like a talking painting! If you doubt 4k is actually on hit display on the remote, and in the top left it will read 4k/24p(if your tv supports 1080p/24p). This only works with 1080p content..so no upscaling 480p or 720p..and understandingly so. I have had this player for 5 months and it is fantastic. In fact it is so great I passed on buying the $400 samsung 4k player..I will take the small image cropping everyday over, high priced tech with nothing good to watch. Seriously, you wont even notice your cropped unless you're a diehard videophile..even then not that serious. The remote is small but feels good in hand and the bluray player has tons of apps if you like that type of thing. Triluminous works great but hard to notice on WCG(Wide Color Gamut) tvs. Overall, this is a monster! Im using the day 1 firmware model which is as stock as it gets..so no updates needed to enjoy. I highly recommend this to anyone looking for the real 4k experience but not looking to shell out $400.
Worth every penny...
January 7, 2016
I've been a bit hesitant on pulling the trigger on another Blu-ray player after my horrible experience with a Panasonic not too long ago, I've felt much more secure with a PS3 for my playback and streaming of media but, my old PS3 has finally gotten to the point where it needed to be replaced. (I was, luckily, able to go back to the PS3 for a while after that player failed me.) After spending another good chunk of time checking out players, (I put in a fair amount of time before I bought the Panasonic a while back), I decided to give this a try and I sure am glad I did. I absolutely love this machine. Set-up went as quickly and painlessly as I've ever seen, probably more so. I don't think it took me any more than 5 minutes to have it all hooked up and another 5 to get it all up and running, including putting in my info for Netflix and Amazon, checking for system updates and setting the remote to work with my tv.The disc playback is flawless, my DVD's look nearly as good as Blu-ray's. Streaming Netflix and Amazon is absolutely perfect, as is streaming over the home network. Some may not like it but, I love that when you're streaming video from another device when the end of the video comes it moves on to the next one instead of just stopping and leaving a blank screen like the PS3 did. I love the user interface as well, very simple and easy to use and understand. I really like some of the available apps, like the Red Bull sports channel app, a lot of content on that one with no commercials. There were a couple of apps that I tried that wouldn't load up a selected program from within them, Fox News was one of them. I really don't care about them, I was only trying them to see how well everything worked. Not getting Fox News I kind of considered a blessing in disguise, lol. For the most part though the apps work and stream very well. I have a LOT of movies and other video's as well as music on our desktop computer so, streaming capabilities are very important to me, I can't stress enough how great it works for this, just perfect. The reviewers complaining about streaming issues must not have fast enough wifi/internet connection, that's the only thing that makes any sense to me.Besides dedicated Home and Netflix buttons on the remote there's a Favorite button that can be assigned to any app you choose for one-click access. There's minor control over your tv with the BD player remote as well, just power, input, and volume, not a lot but, helpful to have, although I always use my home theater for sound and the volume control won't work for that.I set it with the quick-start option and I have to say that quick-start is not an adequate description, instant-start is more like it. When you power it up the home screen comes up instantly with this setting enabled. I haven't had it long enough to have had a chance to really put it through the paces, trying out everything it has to offer but, I have used it enough to know that I am very pleased with how it performs, as long as it lasts for a while I couldn't be happier with it. Worth every penny and then some.
Sony's 4K support blows Toshiba's out of the water...
November 20, 2015
I replaced a Toshiba 4K Blu-ray player with this 4K Blu-ray player by Sony. In comparison, the Sony blows the Toshiba out of the water. Both my wife and I could immediately tell the quality difference in both the sound and the picture. The Toshiba "hiccups" with 4K mastered discs and the Sony plays smooth as silk. The individual frames are also clearer and much richer with the Sony. The difference in software support is no contest, the Toshiba has VUDU and Netflix and little else. For most anything else aside from Netflix and VUDU, you will have to use the Toshiba built-in web browser. But its browser support is a joke and trying to access Amazon Prime Video through the Toshiba web browser yields constant starts and stops, even though we have the home theater hooked up through hard-wired Ethernet broadband and not wireless. The Sony's direct support for over 300 services is much appreciated and makes for a much smoother user experience. So hands-down, the Sony wins in picture, sound and third-party support. Anyone want to buy a used Toshiba? ;)

Perfect Cables, Perfect Price
March 6, 2017
These are some excellent cables for HDMI, meeting every advertised capability and being of a very decent build that shows no sign of wear and tear for 6 or more months of constant use and reconfiguration of ports. It's a great length at 2M but there are plenty of options to suit your needs in length of cable. This is truly the only cable I haven't had an issue with; no missing support despite it being advertised, no low quality build and still extremely affordable. Nice and flexible to allow it to be placed as needed and a robust connector and connector housing. Do yourself a favour and don't get scammed by other cables that may even be worse.Fantastic value and will always turn towards AmazonBasics for HDMI cables, as I've had more expensive options in stores be the lowest level of pricing and it's always been a far worse offering than this great value periphery cable.
Great sturdy HDMI cable for all your TV needs!
January 13, 2017
Very sturdy well made cable. Not one of those cheap thin things that will break if you look at it. I move my TV around a lot for my job and this cable has been unplugged, coiled up, packed in a box, shipped, unpacked, uncoiled and plugged in again more times then I would like to admit.... it is as good as it was the first time I used it 4 almost 5 years ago!!! Highly recommend this cable.

Amazon busted the cable industry!
April 7, 2016
Amazon busted the HDMI upcharge market with their AmazonBasics line of HDMI cables. For the longest time retailers took advantage of consumers with the infamous upcharged cables. USB cords cost a manufacturer next to nothing, but would sell for twenty dollars--then came HDTVs and HDMI cords. HDMI cords cost a manufacturer less than three dollars to make, but consumers wouldn't be able to buy them for less than $40.00... which was ridiculous.Amazon called the industry on this practice when they introduced AmazonBasics and offered these cables at an actually affordable price... and they're definitely reaping the rewards now, as these big box stores are feeling the hits. That history aside, these cables work the exact same as some of those $40 cables, so don't waste your time or money anywhere else anymore.
HDMI Cable or Dangerous Black Snake????
December 9, 2015
Heavy cable, sometimes I forget I have this running from my PC to my TV across the room so I jump and scream thinking it's a gigantic snake. It will take several people to install this hdmi cable, due to it's massive girth, but once you've proven your weight in testosterone, your reward is inserting the connection into your tv's input port with ultimate satisfaction! The connection will neither sway nor budge, only hold fast where you insert it. This feat of engineering prowess was likely done by engineers of weapons of mass destruction, considering the considerable heavy cable shielding. I unloaded two full clips from my 9mm pistol to see if I could penetrate the jacket, let's just say I'm glad the richochet didn't hit me in the eyes, as the cable not only resisted the gun shots, but reflected them, leaving no sign of impact. This likely has some sort of weaponized Teflon coating to deflect bullets. My friend who works in magnetic sciences suggests to me this is done by the cable creating a repulsive magnetic field with AI to detect potential threats to its integrity. That being said, this cable makes me feel safer at night.Edit: I woke up one morning with this cable wrapped somehow around my neck, but did not move. I merely acted as though I was still asleep and feigned moving around a bit. It did decease it's attack. I suppose this occured because I had shot the cable previously and the AI was beginning to rationalize I was an enemy rather than a friend. I will need to find a way to reprogram it.Edit: Attempts to edit the AI have failed, I've been assimilated by the cable and am no longer human, rather now I exist within the realm of only binary impulses. I feel nothing. I want for nothing. I have become complete.I would buy this cable again.
Just as good as any HDMI cable but $25 cheaper. And you get two!
August 9, 2012
There is a great myth about it being necessary to buy $100+ hdmi cables. The expensive ones are supposedly better quality and have better jacketing. The truth is that hi-speed hdmi cables with ethernet are exactly the same. Sure, the expensive cables may have better materials and better quality control, and they may have better jackets. However, AmazonBasics has not let me down! Their hdmi cables are as good as my MonsterCables which costed me $80 when I first bought my 1080p/240hz lcd screen. I bought an AmazonBasics cable when I bought another flat screen and had no issues with the picture quality or refresh rate. I played on my PS3 and watched bluray videos just fine. And, the jacketing on that first pair of AmazonBasics hmdi cable I bought was ten times better and only cost me $8. Unless you're a videophile who owns a $5,000+ flat screen and have the most expensive equipment that money can buy, then you would probably be happier with a really expensive cable, although, it would just be as overpriced as all the other stuff you have purchased in the past. AmazonBasics is the way to go for cables!

Solid steel and good idea.
November 28, 2016
Good solid steel construction. They will bend if you twist it, but it works fine for what it needs to do. Comes with a big bag of screws, spacers and washers of various sizes to let you find the ones that will fit your TV. (NOTE: Make sure you use the right length. If you try and put too long a screw into the holes on the back of the TV, depending on the design of the TV itself, you may damage something. I had two different sets of bolts that would fit the holes, but one was twice as long. I did not hurt the TV, but think you could have...)My one suggestion/complaint about it is that when it's above the TV, it is sort of balanced on one screw on either side, and could use something like a couple of rubber friction washers or ridged plastic washers to help keep it in place. The plastic washers work ok, but if anything touches the sound bar it tilts to one side or the other. Doesn't affect the function of it, just looks bad.You will need screws to fit your soundbar. My soundbar had them included along with keyhole plates to hang on a wall, but none of the screws included would fit. Verify you have the right hardware before starting or you'll have the usual mid-job cussathon. One person can attach this to the back of a TV, but it would be easier with two, since with one hand you hold the soundbar up, one hand you hold the bracket in place, one hand you put in the screw and tighten it and your tail is swishing the flies and there you are.I used one of the round holes at the top to mount the bar, and the middle slots to attach to the TV to allow it to be leveled above it. As my TV is sitting on a shelf in the middle of the room, below wasn't an option. It doesn't sit flush with the front of the TV, but that doesn't really matter and will probably depend on your specific soundbar and TV. (Mine is a small soundbar and relatively thick LCD tv.)
Mounted Vizio SB3820-C6 to a Vizio M55-C2 TV
May 10, 2016
Everything went smoothly. Shipping was fast and the product worked perfectly. I mounted a Vizio SB3820-C6 sound bar above a Vizio M55-C2 TV using these brackets. I also have the TV mounted to the wall using a Kanto PDX650 wall mount. Both mounts work well together. The only hardware I needed from the sound bar mount was a spacer to place on the bottom two screws of the TV wall mount to compensate for the sound bar mount that used the top two screws on the TV mount.
Makes Life a Little Easier

I am very pleased with this product. I have a wall mounted Sony 50" TV, and wanted to install the Sony HT-CT370 Sound Bar at the bottom of the TV for a clean look and central sound. I have the AC plugs located high on the wall behind the TV and all cables run inside of the wall. But, I needed a way to "hang" the Sound Bar from the bottom of the TV without putting holes into my wall. I ordered this product along with the Sound Bar because the other reviews were good and positive about the versatility of this bracket. I was not disappointed. Made out of steal with plenty of holes and curves to align with the holes on the rear of the TV and on the Sound Bar, I installed it in about 20 minutes with the help of a partner holding the Sound Bar up in place while I aligned the screw holes. What I did was to unscrew the bottom two holes from the TV wall bracket and the TV, then I slipped in the Sewell Sound Bar bracket in-between, placing the wall mount bracket on top and re-tightened the the two bottom screw holes. Then I adjusted the Sewell to align with the Sound Bar at the bottom and tightened everything up. Nice product and I am so glad I ordered it with the sound Bar. This made life a little easier for me.
Excellent bracket.
July 10, 2015
This is exactly what I needed. It fits on the existing mounting holes and bracket on the rear of my Sony plasma TV and holds my Vizio sound bar flush to the bottom of the TV. It is the same width as the TV and looks as if the sound bar is part of the TV. I use a full motion bracket and this does not interfere in any way with movement of the bracket and TV. Excellent product and reasonable price. Very happy.
Third set purchased
September 14, 2013
I have three TVs; all have mediocre sound from mediocre speakers on the back. Two are on tilt/swivel mounts that extend out from the wall. I use a sound bar with each for improved sound. The brackets are a great concept. They let the sound bars tilt and swivel with the TV, and provide a clean installation look. The brackets fit all three different model TVs and all three different model sound bars. They take a little bit of care and effort for installation, but it's worth it. I recommend getting a small pack of adhesive cable clips; those let me run the cables invisibly down the back of the bracket. The sound bars sway just a bit when the TVs are moved, but they're secure and the slight momentary sway is not a problem. Inexpensive and effective!
Works just fine for what I wanted
August 9, 2013
These brackets hold my samsung sound bar no problem. My sound bar came with it's own wall mount bracket and I needed to buy some small bolts, nuts and lock washers but not because of the brackets. Great item for the price. I am using a Cheeta full motion mount to mount the TV to the wall and these brackets to hold the sound bar. I also posted some customer images.

Very easy to set up and with my SONY tv they interact with each other very well. I can use the stereo remote for both of them which is nice. The sound obviously won't make it surrounding but my TV isn't the loudest and this makes it very loud and most people will never need to crank it up all the way unless you're one of those obnoxious music listeners that need the music to flick your hair around.
Does what I want and then some for a very good price.
January 10, 2016
I didn't want to spend too much money on this, and with the sale price I paid for this I'm really happy with it. It enriches the sound from the flat screen TV SIGNIFICANTLY, and the low profile is one of the few choices that will fit under my TV (sitting on a table). Those are the only two requirements I really have and it delivers perfectly at a real good price.

Additional pluses are easy installation, with wireless subwoofer; and bluetooth to play music from my phone. I had desk audio system that plays and charges older iPods, but newer ones with lightening won't fit. Using an aux cable to play and charging the phone at the same time on another desk just doesn't work. This bluetooth solves that problem handily. However, the bluetooth connection is poor indeed. I need to live with it more to see if it's really useful for me - charging the phone at 5m away while playing through bluetooth.
Works well in my family room (about 12' x 20')
December 11, 2015
Used with my 60" LG. Sounds nice when the volume is up a bit. Also use it for Pandora. The wireless sub works good too.

I will say it is not easy integrating it with my Xfinity (silver) remote. As it stands now, the Xfinity remote cannot handle the TV, Soundbar, and DVR at the same time. I need to select the TV to mute it so I can hear the sound bar. I have to select the Soundbar (AUX) to change the volume. Before, the TV and DVR worked together.

Still worth the $$ on the Lightning Deal.
The sound is great, I hear the voices at a lower level ...
March 6, 2015
It took 3 sound bars until I received one that worked. The 1st one did not work with the HDMI cable, the 2nd one the Sub-woofer did not work and third one is working really well. I have all of my devices hooked to the sound bar via HDMI cables. The sound is great, I hear the voices at a lower level and the bass sound from the Sub-woofer really make a difference. Amazon was great to work with, they made sure I received a good product, they shipped the exchanged sound bar via same day shipping. As for Sony their customer service it is VERY VERY BAD, I tried to get help via phone, the technical service person did not speak English very well and was no help. I then tried the online help line via chat, I wasted 45 minutes with a Sony technical service rep on Chat, who after 45 minutes told me that their server was down and I needed to try back in 2 hours.
Definitely an improvement over the crappy Panasonic speakers & that's really all I was expecting
July 4, 2014
Bought to hang under plasma in bedroom & with some modification using Sewell mounting brackets it worked out well. Definitely an improvement over the crappy Panasonic speakers & that's really all I was expecting. Wireless sub provides decent punch & several of the surround modes do provide reasonably decent surround effects. Obviously not DD but not bad. Pretty much plug & play out of the box. Can control TV, Directv box and the Sony with DTV remote. Not a 5.1 system but the next best thing. I'm pretty critical when it comes to my electronic toys & I am happy with this purchase.

Does the job, remote is a pain
February 4, 2016
I bought this mainly to play Netflix and Amazon Prime, apps for both of which came preinstalled. It works well for this. I have not played a BluRay disk (but have played standard DVD's) I took off one star because the remote seems to "double click" - i.e. if the video is paused and I press play, usually it will start to play and pause again in a second or so. When I press play a second time it generally works as expected.
set up was very easy, plug in and turn on
December 18, 2015
Only 4 stars because of No HDMI cable with this model.BUT, Amazon Prime Next Day Delivery, Rocks!!!Unfortunately Sony only sends HDMI cable with limited product models But there is no mention of this on the outer box nor was it part of the product description. For petes sake, it cost me $6 US to purchase one and thats at retail markup. Sony can buy these in bulk for a lot less and put them in all the boxes instead of picking and choosing which model will get one. Other than that, set up was very easy, plug in and turn on. It located Wi-fi signal and that process went smoothly, no up grade needed for me. Wi-fi connected to Amazon Prime Video easily and the quality of the DVD we tested it with was better than I thought. Product is very light weight and cheaply made but what do you want now a days, this is replacing the behemoth vcr/dvd player from 10 yrs ago.
Amazon Prime Video Not Accessible from the Amazon site setup as device is not listed in the Bluray players to register. :(
November 16, 2015
Super easy setup. Netflix was a breeze to setup. Amazon Prime Video is NOT available. This model is not in the products to register on the Amazon site and when I try to set it up on the device, I get a username/password prompt but NO keyboard to enter the info. This appears to be more of an Amazon problem but I'm not sure at this point in time.Update: Amazon support confirmed this player is NOT Compatible with Amazon Video.
So Far, So Good!

I bought this Blu-Ray player after the Samsung BD-H5100-RB refurbished player I bought last May went kaput. I've been a Samsung fan for many years, but this player might bring me back to Sony.Set up was painless and took about 15 minutes. That includes the time it took to log the player onto my home wifi network. After setting up the player, I tested it out. Oddly enough, Blu Ray discs were the last things I tested. What did I test first? The player's ability to connect to the WDMyCloud NAS on my network. The "app" for that isn't on the home screen, but it was easy to add. The connection was seamless and the player was able to play several WMV and MP4 file. It wasn't able to play all of my AVI files, though. Still, it was able to play the majority of what I needed to play. I'm in love with this feature!Regarding actual Blu-Ray discs, the player was excellent. Loading times were quick and there were no issues, not even with a rental Blu-Ray disc I tried. So far so good!Let's see if this player can last longer than my Samsung that died after just 4 months. Fingers are crossed.
It was easy to set up
July 15, 2015
So far, this is as advertised. It was easy to set up, connection to my wireless is excellent and I've had no issues other than after it did the system upgrade, I had to re-enter all my Netflix, Amazon and Pandora account information. Using a remote to do that is time consuming the first time (but acceptable). Having to do it all again a 2nd time after the update was a little frustrating. If not for that, it would have gotten 5 stars.
Finally Connected! :)
June 5, 2015
I loved this Wi-Fi Blu-ray Player at first.. The price was great and right out of the box, I did the software upgrade like it asked and it connected to our network with no problem. I was able to get on Netflix and YouTube with no problem. Went to bed that night and shut it off. About a week later, I turned it back on and was trying to get onto Netflix again but for some reason, it lost network connection. I spent about 2 hours trying to get it connected back with our network but had no success. I did everything from doing a manual set up and entered in our network SSID and password, resetting the device to factory settings, turning off our router, unplugging it for a minute, etc., so finally, thinking it might be a defective one, I got fed up and requested to send it back and replace it with a new one. Amazon was good about sending out another quickly and we received it yesterday (6/4/15). Took this one out of the box and switched it out with the 1st one. Started off great, did the software upgrade and it found our network with no problem. Was able to get on Netflix and YouTube just like last time. Turned it on again today (6/5/15) and now it can't find our network again! In fact, it can't find ANY networks. I'm done with this model now. I requested to get a refund and I am just going to look around for another brand. The reason we went with a SONY is because we have a 2013 model that works great so we figured this would work even better. Too bad both of them were a disappointment. Attached is a photo of the network set up screen and where it says "Network (SSID)" is where it's supposed to have a list of all the networks but doesn't.UPDATE 6/8/15 - So I was getting ready to put the first player I received back in the box to send it back to Amazon but I wanted to try one more attempt at getting this to connect back to our network bc I was really irritated at myself that I could not get it to work, so instead of hooking it back up on the TV I had it on, I brought it upstairs to our master bedroom TV, unplugged our 2013 model and hooked up the 3500. Same as usual.. started off good and connected to our network with no issues; got on Netflix & YouTube just like before and a few minutes later, I shut the power off (this is where the problem always started with connecting back to our network). Sure enough, lost connection again to where it's not picking up any networks at all. So then, I got the idea to unplug the player from the outlet and then plug it back in. Didn't think that would do anything but it did! All of a sudden, it picks up all of the local networks again and it connects back to ours with no problem. I than run downstairs and do the same thing to the replacement and it starts working again as well! I am still baffled as to what could of caused both of them to have the same issue and to correct it, something so simple as to unplug it and plug it back in would actually solve the problem. I don't know if that was just a coincidence or if that was the actual solution but hopefully for some of the other people having the same problem, maybe give that a try and see if it works. I changed my review from 1 to 4 stars. Would have given it 5 stars but that was a lot of aggravation to deal with. I'm just glad everything is working now and since I was able to get them working, I've decided to keep both of them. Hopefully everything continues to keep working the way they should. :)

Good player with some software issues (the most serious of which has been solved)
August 4, 2017
Good quality Blu-ray player that loads apps and movies quickly. It still has that irritating Sony habit of showing you the steps it goes through each time when establishing a wi-fi connection with your router and forces you to press the "OK" button on the remote to continue on to the app (such as Netflix) after successfully making the network connection. It doesn't just load Netflix (or any other app you have selected) but instead forces you to "close" the network connection screen before moving on to the app. Why Sony blu-ray players do this is a mystery only Sony knows the answer to.... For a long time the player also had a software glitch that would cause the unit to crash out of Youtube after playing music videos for about an hour straight. I would then have to turn the player off and power it up again before I could continue watching music videos. Contacting Sony tech support yielded no solution or insight as to why this was occurring. Finally, a recent software update downloaded from the internet appears to have solved this problem. Since this update was installed a few months ago, the player has operated flawlessly in all situations (other than the irritating network connection process). With its current software update, I think four stars is a fair rating. I will eventually replace this player with the new Sony UBP-X800 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Player. It will be interesting to see if Sony has streamlined the network connection/app loading process....

April 3, 2017
Nice system plays all advertised formats through USB including, most importantly, VIDEO: mp4,m2ts,mpeg2 and HD wmv. System will not play menu in AVCHD but open the file then open stream & receive your m2ts stream in HD. I would suggest if you have krud resolution media output will be the same. DVD files with USB no menu just open and play your vob files separately. USB will play also mp3,CD,mp3DVD data disks and photo files.DISC PLAY: I find colossal I have a LG 55" Smart, 3 year old 1080 TV, and just recently purchased a Sony home entertainment system along withPolk surround speakers. The Sony BDPS6500 is a 2015 device with the quality I like at a usually discounted price. I bought mine as a refurb.DVD PLAY: is good- I take exception to a review that called it disappointing. Suggestion go to OPTIONS on your remote and go to settings DO NOT just use default settings. DISC PLAY with music is very good.My only disappointment is no shuffle with music files-and YES it has a on-off light.
Great value

I'm not certain about improving dvds to 4K quality but the player works perfectly. I find the remote control very adequate in size and function. I was led to believe in other reviews that it was far too small. It's similar in size to a Roku remote. I've not played a dvd yet but after connecting a digital audio coaxial cable to my older dvd surround receiver; it picks up all 5 speakers very well when playing any disk. I'm not using the smart functions of this machine as I have a 4k smart 4K tv and a 4k Roku which I usually use to access all internet services. I'm considering purchasing another unit to add to an older 1080P LCD 52" tv set with the same older dvd home theatre set. I would definitely say it's worth purchasing. The current real 4K disks are about $49 and I would never pay for these disks at that price unless you could eventually rent them so I'm waiting a bit. This is the first blue ray machine I've owned.
So far so good for video, but inconvenient for playing CDs.
September 6, 2016
I've only had it a few days but it seems to be a bargain at its current price despite its small size. The video works fine so far, but I do have a problem with the audio (that I also just asked a question about). My Onkyo TX-SR705 receiver-amplifier used to automatically recognize and play CDs from my 10-year old Denon DVD/CD player (which recently died). The two devices were connected with HDMI, 5.1-channel analog, and RCA stereo cables. I have connected my new Sony BDP-S6700 Blu-ray/DVD player using both its HDMI and coaxial digital audio outputs. But I cannot find any way to set up either device to play music CDs without also having to turn on my television as a monitor to activate the Sony Blu-ray player and tell it to start playing the CD. This is both a nuisance and a waste of electricity for music lovers like me who are old enough to have large CD collections.
Really great device, with one annoyance...
March 11, 2016
I really like this device. I am using this instead of my PS3 for the DVDs and primarily for streaming from Amazon Instant Video. The device operates quickly, with little lag while navigating menus or launching apps. The Amazon Instant Video app is easy to browse popular titles so you don't have to use the on-screen keyboard as often, unless of course there is a specific title that isn't currently a popular title that you need to find. You can use Wi-Fi or a wired Ethernet connection to connect. I tried both, and naturally I got better image quality from the wired connection, although the Wi-Fi image was still pretty darn good. I have 40Mbps down and 20Mbps up DSL. With my wired connection, the image quality from Amazon looks like Blu-ray.The Blu-ray player works just as well. No complaints there.I do have a complaint about the apparent lack of ability of using USB wireless keyboards to type instead of having to use the arrow buttons on the remote to navigate the on-screen keyboard, which is cumbersome and really stinks. I tried three different wireless keyboards, including one from Logitech and one meant for media centers, but you cannot use them to type into text fields. I deducted one star for that, as most devices that have a USB port on them accept wireless keyboards for this purpose.Overall, I am pretty happy with this device, except when I have to type something.
Pretty good
February 27, 2016
Works fine, but I have to pull the plug on it to reset it every now and then (noticed I have to do that with the Roku or Firestick sometimes anyway).Doesn't always save the spot in the movie like our old BD player did. It still worked, but getting a replacement remote cost almost as much as this thing and a universal remote was no good. Note- keep remotes away from toddlers and liquids. This flaw is a real pain in the neck, as if you don't remember your spot when this shuts down or goes to sleep after you pause it, sometimes you have to start from the disc intro screen and work your way to the menu and then search for your spot.I love the quick start. Our old player took a looooong time to boot up. This is ready to go in a couple seconds. Unfortunately, with the above occasional set-back, you can spend more time being aggravated by the warning screens and disc intro screens...I love having multiple apps available- which is handy when the Firestick or Roku act up. None of these devices seems to function reliably all the time...I love that I can pull out the iPhone and control this thing. The footprint is small- this is nice, but this thing is so lightweight that when I open the cabinet to press a button on the unit itself it pushes the whole thing back, so I have to remember to hold it in place or use the remote.I cannot comment on the upscaling to 4k or 3D yet as we have yet to get a 4k TV- that said, those features are good to have on a player at this price point and I look forward to trying it out if I can find a good passive glasses 3D 4k TV (I have no interest in messing around with proprietary glasses or glasses that require battery changes).

Nice and stiff
December 8, 2016
Nice cable at the right price. My connection angles on the back of my TV were a bit tight to get into, and since these are pretty stiff you might need to gently curve the cable near the connector for HDMI female connectors which are at anything other than 90 degree angles
Plug it in, watch what you want
August 12, 2016
This cable has performed as expected and I have had zero issues with it. I have this connected to my computer, running to my home theater receiver (using it for 1080p resolution), and use close to all 25' of it. My main complaint would be how thick the cabling is. The jacket is extraordinarily thick and does not leave much in the way of flexibility. However, this does not really affect me and is mostly a non issue. This may hinder people if they choose to have this plugged into a television that is mounted and only has back facing ports. Overall, I would purchase this cable again.
Save some money and buy these on Amazon!
April 22, 2016
I always get nervous when buying low priced HDMI cables. I used to buy them from Monoprice, but the ones I get from them are too stiff for my needs. These are very flexible and allow me to position my cables where I need them (I am A.D.D. when it comes to cable management). I have noticed no difference in these from the high dollar ones I have bought in the past from Best Buy. Save some money and buy these on Amazon!
Started out fine, and no longer works
March 1, 2016
Edit:Amazon sent me a new one as soon as I wrote this review. I haven't tried it yet. Regardless, I am bumping my review way up from one star for customer service. I didn't ask for the new one and they didn't ask for my old one to be returned. It just showed up two days later. Great work Amazon. Another reason I use this site all the time.I bought this to connect my new Macbook to my new Vizio TV. The cable worked well for two months or so. Now the sound does not transmit to the TV. The video still works, but no audio. I hooked it up to my wife's macbook and it is also not working anymore. Started out fine, and no longer works. I am rather savvy with the computers and TV and have rules out the problem coming from them as best I can. I believe it is the cable.
July 9, 2015
These cables arrived in excellent shape. They were packaged well in a sturdy container and arrived in a timely fashion. They are pictured in a black finish and that is how they arrived. The plugs on each end fit the outlets as stated. Everything started at one and seems to travel to the other end arriving in excellent condition. I cannot say if they are by directional as I have only use them to send the signal in one direction. They have worked well enough for this application that I would foresee no difficulties using them for other applications. Where they are in use is not readily accessible so this would be from memory. I do not think they can be connected together to make a longer cable. It would probably necessitate a special connecting device. While I don't know the exact application you might be planning to use them for they seem to be adequate for my needs. should I need anymore this manufacturer would certainly be considered.
About the least expensive new HDMI cables you are likely to find on the market.
January 7, 2013
It seems like no electronic device that requires an HDMI cable ever ships with one, anymore. I purchased two devices this past Christmas season (an Xbox and a Blue-Ray player) that required cables, and (of course!) neither one came with one. I did purchase one cable along with them at the time of my original purchase at the big box store, but upon attempting to hook everything up, realized that my HDTV (and most HDTVs older than a year or two) only have a single HDMI port. Oh brother! The fix? Buying this pack of cables along with the Kinivo 301BN Premium 3 port High speed HDMI switch with IR wireless remote and AC Power adapter - supports 3D, 1080p so that both devices can be plugged into the switcher box and feed into the single port. So far, no problems from either the switching box or these cables. I've had friends tell me that there is a noticeable difference between a $10 HDMI cable and a $30 HDMI cable. Really? I'm not convinced. Is one perceptibly better? How would you even test this unless you had two identical TV set-ups side by side? I guess I will never know and will just be content saving the extra money.I would recommend these cables (and the HDMI switch) to anyone who needs some inexpensive HDMI cables. They have been working just fine for me.

Like solving a puzzle
December 19, 2016
Bought these brackets on the strength of the mostly positive reviews here. Would have given 5 stars except for the length of time required to figure out how to make the attachments. There are four elements that have to be negotiated successfully in order to get this mount to work: TV, TV mount, soundbar and the bracket. The process is almost akin to solving a puzzle and requires the user to patiently consider many possible approaches before arriving at the one that actually works. To the credit of the designers, there are more than enough places on the brackets to put attachment screws and they supply a large number of various screws plus washers and extenders. My particulars: The TV is a 47" LG TV on a Sanus swivel mount. The soundbar is a Vizio SB3821-C6. First preference was a below the TV mount, but would have gone to a top of the TV mount if necessary. Was easily able to find the correct screw pair to attach the brackets to the soundbar. The hard part is determining where to attach the other end of the bracket to the TV mount or TV. After considering many options, it became obvious that the best place was to piggyback on two existing TV mount screws. Removing those screws proved tricky because once removed the TV slipped in the mount so that the holes were no longer aligned. Nevertheless, with the help of some muscle, I was able to realign the screw holes and attach the bracket. This proved to be the perfect way to mount this soundbar which leaves a gap of about 1 inch below the TV but is necessary to be able to access the manual controls which are located on top of the soundbar. Finally, for this soundbar, the brackets block the access points at the rear of the bar for power cord and output sound cable. This was easily solved by disattaching the bar from the bracket, making the necessary wire connections and reattaching the bar. Probably could have flipped the brackets over, as well. The brackets provide a fairly solid attachment.
Be prepared in every sense. All associated gear is critical.
November 26, 2016
This bracket is both useful and somewhat flexible in terms of what products it will work with. It is best suited fortvs that are flat on the back, something that buyers seldom look at when making a TV purchase. As to sound bars, I have used it with the very flawed LG sound bar which ended up working ok and looking ok but that was due to repurposing fittings and ignoring all instructions. Avoid any attempts at making this unit work without an Extensive collection of spacers, screws, washers and other hardware. Choose a sound bar that is not too heavy and that has rear mounted screw on mounting provisions. While Sewell does not mention it, I added a second screw attaching the bracket to the rails which mount onto the TV. This keeps the soundbar from racking side to side and flopping around. This has to be done as the last step before mounting the assemble and great care must be taken to assure that the TV is not damaged when predrilling for the 1/2" #8 Truss head screw. The wall mount bracket must be substantial and should not be a shallow mount. Actually, a very strong, well made wall mount is essential and unless you are very lucky and not too concerned about cosmetics, a flat mount is out of the question.
It works well, but had to make some modifications.
June 3, 2016
Maybe it's because my TV (Sharp Aquos) is five+ years old, and my sound bar (Yamaha) is almost as old, but these didn't quite fit like I would have hoped. None of the screws that came with the brackets fit any screw holes on the back of my TV or sound bar – and they send a ton of screws, washers and sleeves in the box. I was sure that one set would work, but no. I used the screws that came with the wall hangers for my sound bar. I had never hung it on the wall, and fortunately the hangers and screws were still on the back of the unit. I removed those hangers and had four screws I could use to mount the brackets. Then I ran into another problem. On the back of my TV, there are only two screw holes that would work, and only two screw holes that worked on the sound bar. Well, I'm no engineer, but I knew unless there was somewhere to add a fifth screw (and preferably a sixth) that this was going to be an unstable situation. Also, I was short a screw to make that happen. I realized that I no longer needed the legs on my sound bar if I was going to hang it from the brackets, so I removed the legs and – two more screws. But I still had the problem of no hole to put the screw into to give the brackets the needed stability. I saw a hole near the right bracket on the back of the TV. I was able to angle the right bracket just enough to get a second screw in it. Now I had stability. From there it was just a matter of leveling the sound bar and hooking everything up. I stepped around to the front of the TV and by angling one of the brackets it had made the sound bar about 2-3 inches off center above the TV. This kind of thing doesn't bother me, but I know some folks that it would drive crazy. I let it go.Now, the most important part: It sounds WAY better. Previously, I had the sound bar sitting under the TV. In order for the TV remote to work, I had two pieces of plywood stacked under the TV stand to raise it above the sound bar. I didn't realize that by having that plywood and a Blu-Ray player, Roku box, Apple TV, cable box, etc behind and beside the sound bar, it was blocking a lot of the sound. Especially the bass.So despite all the modifying I had to do, it was worth it. It's like I have a new sound system for my TV.
Works great, had to do a little extra work to get it to fit just right.

It works and looks great!Pros:Looks like it will fit almost anythingStrong but light metalComes with an abundance for different screwsHigh QualityCons:Didn't have correct screws for my Sony Sound bar, even with all the extra ones that came with it. (Drill bit fixed that issue in about 2 second) Works great now.More of a gap than I would like difficult to get flush against TV with type of bracket this is but got the gap close in about 10-15 minutes within an 3-5mm or so doing it alone.Could of had more detailed instructions but it's not rocket surgery. If I would purchase in the future:I think I would have paid a little extra and get the type that has straight bars that each as an articulating arm (4 piece) (straight) mounting bracket vs the (2 piece) (curved)
A solid product that makes me want for nothing more.

Purchased this to mount a VIZIO SB4051-C0 40-Inch 5.1 Sound Bar on top of a Samsung Curved 55" UHD TV mounted to a wall with a Cheetah Mounts APFMSB TV Wall Mount Bracket. I thought that my curved TV would present a problem and this bracket might not work for me, but it works quite well.Took my tv off the wall and laid it on my bed to mount the sound bar. Removed the wall mount brackets and placed the soundbar brackets on first on the two top mounting holes in the back of the tv and mounted the soundbar to the end portions of the brackets. Used some spacers on the lower tv mount holes to make up for the thickness of the soundbar brackets. I should note also that with the curved tv, I was using some additional spacers already to allow clearance for all of the brackets due to the curve of the tv. All said and done, the effect is that the sound bar is sitting securely on top of the tv and looking pretty sharp. I could have hung it btw and spaced out the soundbar so as to not contact the tv, but I like and prefer it this way.In the packaging comes with a hardware bag full of screws, washers, spacers - pretty much everything you'll need to make this work. The only issue I had was that the shape of the brackets make it somewhat difficult to plug and unplug some of the connections in the rear of the soundbar. While not fully blocking access, they do hinder some. However, this is hardly a problem as I'll only ever be going back there again when I add a new component at a later date. Also, being a universal bracket, you'd expect something like this. Though I think the price is kind of high just for some brackets, they made a good product and supplied every piece of hardware I could need and more.4 Stars. A solid product that makes me want for nothing more.
However it did make the soundbar sit right underneath the TV nice and flush
August 25, 2015
These soundbar brackets barely made it on my Vizio p502ui-b1e 50 inch TV and attached the Vizio SB4051-C0 40 inch Soundbar. However it did make the soundbar sit right underneath the TV nice and flush. The brackets them selves are rated to hold up to 30+ pounds max which did a great job at holding the sound bar. However the weight of the soundbar causes the slim brackets to swicg back and forth. While this may not be an issue day to day, tilting the TV from time to time to plug in cables, one has to remember to not use the sound bar as a way to move the TV as the brackets feel like they would just bend. Overall it was a great fit and finish. Pics attached.

The subwoofer is not loud enough
OK - expected more
May 25, 2016
I thought buying sony would mean it would work as an integrated speaker but that is not the case - the speaker volume on TV (and the cable control) will not adjust sound of bar so you got yet another controller to lose. Sound is ok, but speakers upwards facing, used to LGs that were forward facing and I felt were better.
Paired this with a Sony TV and Sewell Bracket. Noticeable but not extraordinary imrpovement in audio quality
April 15, 2016
I bought this on Black Friday. I have lousy hearing, my big TV has tiny speakers, and I've always wanted something to improve the audio. I resisted sinking money into a sound bar for a long time because I didn't feel the technology was mature, but I finally decided it was time to buy. There's a few different ways to connect this sound bar:

1) you can use an HDMI passthrough where your media device(s) connects to the sound bar, which then connects to your TV. The sound bar can switch between multiple media devices.
2) you can use audio return channel where your media device(s) connects to your TV, which then returns audio through another cable to the sound bar
3) you could also use optical or analog output, either from your media device or TV to the sound bar.

I initially tried #1, connecting my Tivo to the soundbar and then connecting the soundbar to my TV. This worked initially but stopped working about a week later. I tried repowering and diagnosing the sound bar to no avail, but I didn't spend a whole lot of time. I suspect something was wrong with the HDMI inputs, so I've deducted a couple stars because of that. I decided to pursue strategy #2, instead and found that to be superior, and that would be my suggested connection method. When I turn the TV on it says something like 'external speakers detected; switching to external speakers'. It takes it a couple of seconds. The advantage of this approach is that your TV is capable of operating fully independently from the soundbar. If there's ever a problem with the soundbar or misconfiguration of the settings (think visiting relative), the TV will work just fine without it.

The audio quality is significantly better than my TV's internal speakers, which had some annoying harmonics. I'm able to understand voices a bit better. The improvements are nice, but they're not earth shatteringly better.

Installation was fairly easy. I purchased a 'Sewell Direct Universal Soundbar Bracket' and was able to mount the soundbar to my TV. I like this a lot better than other installations where people mount the soundbar directly to the wall (requiring additional anchors). I highly recommend using something like the sewell bracket.

I have noticed that if I leave my Tivo paused for a really really long time, that the TV 'forgets' about the soundbar, and switches back to its internal speakers. This happens rarely, and is resolved by turning the soundbar's power off and then back on.
It's okay
February 9, 2016
I needed a basic soundbar to match a Sony tv that has a very low clearance under the stand. Very few would fit, but this one does. Did not have high expectations just wanted something that would be better than the built-in speakers which are terrible.

If you have a discerning ear you will likely find the sound to be mediocre, muddy, poor stereo separation. But it's still leaps and bounds better than the tv's built-in speakers. For what I paid the item is a decent value. That said if you are looking for something that's going to knock your socks with the sound quality you're going to need to spend a lot more money.

If you don't feel like reading my whole review the short and sweet would be: forgo getting a two in one device (st least not this one, or any Sont for that matter we have a different model in our basement and I have issues with that also) If you are getting it for its additional streaming and smart DVD features, look elsewhere. The buck stops at its basic DVD player functions. For those who care to read a longer review: For use as a blu ray/DVD and nothing more, it's fine. It plays dvds like it's supposed to. As far as using it for its smart capabilities I have found it's more hassle than it's worth. When you turn on the device you have to let it sit and process for several minutes. I'm not sure what it's doing, if it needs to connect to the internet when it first turns on but if you go to open Netflix as soon as you turn it on an error message pops up saying it can't connect to the server. Once you wait your 5-10 minutes it pops up with another message saying it's attempting to connect to the network (which generally means it's working) but you have to wait close to a minute for it to load the 3 stages; then you can finally enjoy Netflix. My unit has needed a software update for about a month and every time I try to update it it tells me the update failed. I haven't had the time to sit down and dedicate more time than the simple step of 'start update/update failed.' This morning I unplugged it, re connected it to my wifi, (even though it said it was already connected), and started the process again. It told me the first time the software update failed so I tried it again and magically it decided to work! I hate writing long reviews because I know personally I just want short and sweet, and I COULD go on about other glitchy things that have happened but for fear of losing my captive audience I'll leave it at this, looking back I would have preferred to purchase a basic blu-ray player and spend $10-$30 more on a separate Roku, fire stick, ect. For my streaming purposes.
decent hardware, marred by poor software
July 27, 2016
Sony products now seem to have a pattern of having good hardware, marred by horrible software. The user interface is slow, lacks critical features such as viewing WiFi info, and is overall unintuitive.PROs* low cost <$100* very nice picture from DVDs & Netflix.* plays movies archived on a 1TB USB drive, but this has issues (see below)* Although is has a ridiculous number of streaming sevices we'll never user use, the UI allows us to put Netflix at the top so we don't have to waste time navigating to it.CONS* Wifi connection failed many tries to Netgear router. Worked first try with Sonic Pace router. This was not the router's fault - we have computers phones, game systems and a printer working fine on the Netgear.* Wifi set-up has no way for you to see the passphrase as you type it in. Since they use one of those horrible on-screen keyboards, this is a major pain when troubleshooting failed WiFi links. This whole WiFi fiasco had use hating the player right out of the box.* Required a 20 minute Netflix software "upgrade" (over an 80MB link) before it would let me use Netflix.* There is no on/off indicator light. You have to turn the TV on first and then randomly press the DVD power button every few seconds until the TV gets a signal. LEDs cost mere pennies, why would they leave this important and universal feature out?* Limited input/output connectors. Make sure it has the ones you need before buying.* The green color is super-saturated when playing movies from the USB. Really bad codec, I guess. If you just want to play DVDs and Netflix, and don't care about the power LED, then this is OK. We bought it for playing USB movies, so we're somewhat disappointed.
Tiny and easy to keep off to the side of my very ...
April 8, 2016
Tiny and easy to keep off to the side of my very small entertainment unit. Like that it is wi-fi capable so it allows for some "smart-tv" functionality. However, most of that is lost on me because I've got a chromecast and kindlefire stick. But, it's neat nevertheless. The one thing I don't like is how the audio on most of my Blu-Rays just seems to bounce around all over the place. I am constantly having to adjust the volume on my TV because of that. I've read I'll probably need a sound system/sound bar to mitigate this annoyance. Which is fine. But it is aggravating to think I'll have to make an additional purchase for something my tv already has, which is adequate sound. But I understand it's not entirely this little unit's fault, either. It's Blu-Ray in general. All in all, a satisfactory purchase. The small size is the best feature of this unit for me.
Budget device worth considering, but with quirks
April 3, 2016
This Bluray player is decent, but has some fairly frustrating quirks. I've had it for a little over 3 full months. Its menu layout is easy enough for my 6 year old to use and navigate into his account on Netflix. However, while the player is streaming, the disc tray is disabled. Likewise, when a disc is in the tray, you are unable to stream. This means that you need to remove your disc before you can stream Pandora or run Netflix, even if you are on the main system menu. An annoying limitation.Additionally, I personally recommend you don't use the quick start option. After enabling quick start, the system slowed down noticeably. After running for a while, some apps stopped loading and would get stuck at the loading scream. Not even the system setup screen would open, it also would stick. This would be corrected by unplugging the system. Like a computer that needs to be restarted, the system had to be powered off and back on.I bought this player because I heard good things about Sony from family, and I wanted a single device that could play my kids discs and also stream without switching tv inputs. This device does these things, but sacrifices speed and crispness. Before this device, we used a 3-year-old Roku 2. The Roku was much more responsive, loaded apps and shows more quickly, and had a similarly easy screen for my kids to navigate. My wife and I miss the Roku for streaming, this device is not an even replacement. The selection of apps is very nice, as is the single programmable favorites button. I wish there were 1 or 2 more programmable buttons for my kids. There is an app you can load to your phone to interface and control the device, but it wants to have Quick Start enabled, and as I said above, that just isn't worth it. This device needs to fully shut down occasionally to operate. This device does what it says it will, but isn't the quickest streamer. The price is very reasonable, however, so if you are on a budget it is worth considering.
OKAY, but... one two different machines ...
November 25, 2015
OKAY, but...one two different machines of this model, I have found that having a disc in the drive compromises the operation in other modes. After watching a disc, but before removing the disc from the drive, if we try to stream a movie on Amazon or Netflix, there are serious issues with the performance of the player. Either the app doesn't load at all, or it is extremely sluggish, necessitating a reboot of the player.
This player is very buggy and does not handle streaming Amazon Instant Video well
June 5, 2015
This player is very buggy and does not handle streaming Amazon Instant Video well. Have to unplug the player weekly because it freezes. The internet signal shows 100% strength yet I get a blocky and jittery low resolution video from Amazon Prime Instant Video. I have checked Youtube video and that looks good. I suspect that the Amazon Instant Video app is not handled well on this Sony player. I have downloaded the latest updates and still no improvement.*** Update ***After performing latest firmware update, the player now works well with Amazon Instant Video App.

Pretty good. No HBO apps.
September 5, 2017
Image quality is pretty good. Definitely has trouble with internet though. We have around 80mb up and this thing lags constantly. Both hardwired to the router as well as wifi. My PlayStation 4 running on the same cable has no such issues.Only major complaint outside of that is you cannot get HBO apps on this thing. Wish I knew that before I bought it. Don't even really understand why it doesn't have them as again my PlayStation 4 does get them. Confusing.
Buy for Blue Ray not streaming
November 25, 2016
Going on a year with this thing. Plays disc's great, but the streaming? Sucks! When you go to streaming it has to move through a 3 step process to "update" (3 to 7 Min's) - then, on your Home/Favorites field, if the box at the bottom for Playstaion preview is not filled in(icon is rotating), you have to wait for that to load (another 3 - 5 mins)... Vudu, Amazon and Hulu have problems loading as well. Most nights, if I want to watch Vudu I have to actually go into settings and do a "check internet settings" first I get no signal notification, then, as the test proceeds, It shows I have internet - go back to home screen and have to wait for PS preview to load again, and then, maybe, I can access Vudu or Netflix or Amazon...When it works, it works well, mostly, when you want to watch streaming, it does not work well.
machine freezes and locks up when streaming
August 23, 2016
I actually have 2 of these. I got rid of cable tv, so we use these to stream our Netflix. We've used them for a bout a year now.I'm not entirely happy with it though. Sometimes the picture quality is poor, comes and goes. And quite often the picture locks up. Actually, the whole machine locks up. When our picture freezes up, we can't press stop, menu, or the power button. Pressing any of the buttons won't help. We have to physically unplug the machine and plug it back in a cpl seconds later. After it resets itself, we can go back to streaming Netflix. It's really annoying. The dvd/bluray player is great. No problems. The picture is as good as the disc quality. No problems there. The home menu comes preloaded with some app options. None of which we use. I don't use any other functions on this machine. I think we can even plug in a thumb drive, but I don;t.I would have given this machine higher stars if it weren't for the freezing up part.
I should have just kept my PS3
July 30, 2016
Can't say I'm fully pleased with this player. I was persuaded by the great reviews, but there are some kinks that make it seem less than high end.1) The internet connection process takes much longer than it should. Anytime, I try to watch a streaming service, the player takes 10 seconds or so to connect to the wifi and then asks me to hit okay once it as has successfully connected. My PS3 just connected to the wifi and didn't make such a big deal out of it.2) It does not convert 7.1 sound to 5.1. This is annoying as it forces you to watch most blu rays in stereo/PCM.3) Amazon Prime seems to buffer very poorly on this device. Netflix starts up just fine and streams great. Not so much the case for Amazon.4) If I stop watching a disc, and then resume later, this device never seems to remember where I left off. These are all minor annoyances. Mostly, I'm disappointed that I traded my PS3 for this player. I thought I was upgrading, but that's not really the case.
take an evening just to get it to work like you want
January 11, 2016
The instructions don't instruct. It's not a plug and play. Takes quite awhile to figure out why there is no audio, how to use the menu, change settings, etc., and you can't really watch anything until you do all that, so if you buy it, take an evening just to get it to work like you want. Even then some things don't see to work like I want - getting to the main menu to play the movie is difficult, doesn't seem to remember where you stopped watching so have to start all over again if you don't watch it all at once. Pause is not forever - it shuts off after some time. Maybe there is a way to fix these things in the settings, but dang, that's a major chore right there.
Great Blu Ray/SACD Player with Streaming Issues
June 20, 2015
I purchased this Sony Blu Ray BDPS6500 to replace several items in my Media Room - 1) Pioneer DV-563A for playing my vast collection of SACD's in 5.1 2) Samsung BD-P3600 which I purchased back in 2009 and is very slow 3) Roku Stick that is not compatible with my Harmony Universal RemoteAfter I received the BDPS6500, I had no problems connecting it via wireless to my Router provided by Verizon Fios. However, within a hour, the internet suddenly stopped working with the player. Watching Netflix, Amazon or any other app became a challenge. The picture would be great one moment and then suddenly become blurry (stream rate dropped) and then freeze. Many times the app would crash. I know there are not any issues with my internet speed or router. I receive 50 Mbps down and my router is only 20 feet from the Blu Ray player. The Roku stick never had any problems. I also have never had any problems with an X-Box One located further away in another room or a Chromecast Stick that is located many rooms away. It was clear that there were issues and I spent many hours searching for advice in different forums.I eventually called Sony Technical Service for assistance. After several calls and dealing with several Technical Service Employees who were unsuccessful fixing the problem, they advised me to send the player back to Sony. They verified the internet connectivity issue on the Blu Ray Player. I was told that I would have to pay for shipping and that it could take up to 15 days to receive my replacement machine. I asked if I would receive an extended warranty for my trouble. The answer was no. Why would I pay to ship my player to Sony and wait 15 days for a replacement when I could just send it back to Amazon for free and get a replacement for free in two days? Before I hung up, I mentioned that I had updated the firmware on the Blu Ray player directly from the internet as instructed. Several people in different forums indicated that there is an issue with the firmware update via internet (they suggested it could brick the player) and recommended updating via the USB drive with files downloaded from Sony web site on a computer. When I suggested this potential issue, he laughed and told me there is nothing wrong with adding the firmware update via the internet directly to the Blu Ray player.I am glad that I did not listen to the Sony Employee. After I received my replacement Blu Ray player from Amazon, I set it up with the firmware update via the USB drive. I quickly noticed a difference and have not had any problems since. Is this a coincidence? Maybe. However, if you spend time searching on Google, you will discover that there is long list of internet connectivity problems with many different Sony Blu Ray Players. It is better to safe than sorry. I recommend all firmware updates via the USB drive with memory stick. My review of three stars has nothing to do with this internet problem. I gave this rating based on how well this player replaces the three devices I mentioned at the beginning of this review:1) My old Pioneer DVD/SACD Player was connected via the old fashioned way - analog connections. There was not an HDMI connection option with this old player. The Sony BDPS6500 does a beautiful job reproducing the sound from these discs, plus I now have the option of purchasing Blu Ray Audio discs too. I have no complaints here. For all of you that have the old DVD-A discs, you will not be able to play them on this machine. I am glad I do not own any of those discs.2) My Samsung Blu Ray player is old and slow. It was not hard for the Sony Player to far exceed my expectations. I happy with this much smaller replacement player.3) The Roku stick had been good to me and I had no complaints with it other than the compatibility issue with my Harmony remote. The Sony BDPS6500 doesn't come close to replacing it. Not only does it lack many of the apps that I enjoy (HBOGo, Plex, and hundreds more), they take longer to load and navigate on the BDPS6500. I also like to stream very large movie files (16 to 20 Gig) via my home computer to the media room to take full advantage of 1080p. This works well with the Plex app on the Roku stick, but was an issue using a similar app from Sony to stream the content from my home computer. The movie crashed every time I attempted to stream it to the BDPS6500. Maybe this will be fixed in the future with another firmware update, but it is a problem at the moment. Finally, the Roku stick has wonderful search feature. If I am interested in finding a specific movie, or something from an actor or a director, the search feature will tell me where I can view it on one of my existing pay services (Netflix, Amazon, Hulu, etc.) or if it is only available via Google Play or some other app for a fee. This is not an option with the Sony BDPS6500.In conclusion, this Blu Ray player is a wonderful for Blu Ray Discs, SACD's and many other media formats. However, I am going to ignore the streaming capability of this player and purchase a Roku 3 (compatible with Harmony Universal Remotes) to replace my Roku stick. My Roku stick will replace the Chromecast stick that I have in another room. I know some film purists will appreciate the 24 FPS streaming functionality of the BDPS6500. That is another subject that I will not cover in detail here. The 24 FPS capability of the Sony Blu Ray for Netflix and Amazon and a few other apps will be nice for the few films that I watch with these services. Most of my streaming will be from the Roku 3. Give me another firmware update (that I will load again via the USB) and I might change my mind.

AmazonBasics High-Speed HDMI Cable 2-Pack - 6. 5 Feet ...
June 11, 2016
AmazonBasics High-Speed HDMI Cable 2-Pack - 6.5 Feet (2 Meters) Supports Ethernet, 3D, 4K and Audio Return.I ordered and received two HDMI Cables. However one of the cables was defective. It took quite a long time during initial setup with my AVR, connecting TV and DVD player, Finally swapped cables and determined the other cable was defective. Placed a return order, received credit. I may have given this item a 4 or 5 rating if both cables worked.
Good picture quality

Good picture quality, but plug ends bend easy. This isn't a product for portable or heavy use. Probably something you plug-in and leave alone.
Great 4k Cable at 30p (24Hz) but NOT for 60p (60Hz)
November 11, 2015
This cable is outstanding with the exception of one minor detail. Since this is a HDMI 1.4 rated cable, the cable can handle resolutions up to 4k just fine. However, the cable simply is not optimal for anything higher than 24Hz refresh rate. If you are wanting to hook up a computer to a UHD TV and play at 4k with 24Hz refresh rate then this is the cable for you for its price. However, the cable is not rated for for anything over 24Hz. Me I'm aiming for 60Hz and this cable simply isn't fast enough to handle the data. Attempting to do so will cause intermittent cut out and display issues. So if you looking for something quick and something to watch your basic DVDs, Blue Rays etc, then you should be fine. However, trying to maximize your resolutions and refresh rates are simply not possible with this cable. Look for something that is at LEAST HDMI 2.0 rated.
Low quality appearance
October 19, 2015
It does the job, but I doubt it will last. The end connectors look good, it's in-between -- the "cable" that looks cheap and low quality. The outer skin appears too large for the inside wires and gives off a "loose" feel. The cable may surprise me and last but it does NOT instill confidence when you open the package, you almost get a sinking feeling of "I wasted my money". But again, so far it has performed fine so looks are not everything.
For PS4 Owners
May 22, 2015
I ordered one of these once before, and the first one would only do 480p for my PS4, I don't think there was any audio as well. The second one I got, thinking the first could be defective and because the customer service was good, did go to 1080p for my PS4, but there was no audio. My PS3 and Xbox 360 work fine, with audio, and the switch switches between all 3 of my devices. However, this is the second one that does NOT work with my PS4. I have also tried an abundance of different HDMI cables, so it is indeed the switch. Very disappointing, but on the plus side, the customer service is pretty good and it works well with the older devices, the PS3 and Xbox 360. I will be looking for a different brand and wouldn't waste my time with this product of you own a PS4.

Works for me but barely
June 22, 2016
I bought this to attach my VIZIO SB3821-C6 38-Inch 2.1 Channel Sound Bar with Wireless Subwoofer (2015 Model) soundbar to the top of my VIZIO E32-C1 32-Inch 1080p Smart LED TV (2015 Model) monitor. The bottom line is that it works but barely. Only by attaching the soundbar to the very last hole in the bracket and then monitor's top most mounting hole to the very last hole in the other end of the bracket did I get it to work for me. The result is that the soundbar is now mounted to and rests on the top of the monitor and it feels stable enough but I don't have the best feeling about how this will hold up over time. Knowing what I know now and if I had to do this again I wouldn't have bought this bracket for this particular combination of soundbar and monitor.
Well made, but Universal..not for me.
February 4, 2016
First of all, I want to be clear that the only reason this is a 3 star review, is that it did not fit my application. The product does seem to be made well enough and comes with a variety of hardware (screws/spacers/washers). I'm aware that "Universal" isn't a guarantee it will work, however I hoped this may get to someone and save them the hassle of returning it.I have a Panasonic 58" S1 Series Plasma TV, the VESA mounts on the back are quite low on the set (Top hole, is about at the mid point) , and because of that it did not reach high enough to be used in my case. I planned to top mount, since this unit sits on it's base on a stand. (Not that it matters, but with a Vizio 54" 5.1 Soundbar setup). I am in the process of looking for a larger mount, and/or fabricating one from some aluminum angle bar.
its ok, but.
March 20, 2015
images are deceptive, on a 49 inch tv with 200x200 vesa mount, its impossible to align them with BOTH the top and bottom holes and have the brackets over/under the tv for the speaker, you can only use 1 set of bolt holes, additionally the instructions show for a center channel speaker to turn them with the curve "in" if you do this they touch, theres no way around it. if you put them the other way, your tv ends up looking like a demon with a cyborg eye ball.my major issue is they only have 2 black screws and nuts for the "key hole" mounted speakers, the problem? there to fat! there about two MM's to wide on the threaded shaft of the bolts for the key holes on my speakers (Onkyo HT-S3500) there are a few other bolts and one set fits, but, no nuts! they need to shave those key hole bolts a bit more or include nuts for the smaller bolts.and, the instructions is just a sheet with a few pictures, its up to you to figure it out. word to the wise? read the manual for your tv to figure out what size bolt to use. it would be a nightmare if you use the wrong size and it cracked your screen, the long bolts that came in the pack would have done that to my tv at least, i checked the manual for mine and found the right size in the pack using a ruler, there metric bolts so when they say "M6x14" they literally mean the threaded part is 6MM's diameter and 14MM's long, makes it easy to figure out which bolt is which.
With a little ingenuity, can result in a perfect installation

So the idea here is relatively simply, add a flat bracket to the back of the TV, just under the wall mounting screws/bolts.Installation was actually relatively straight-forward, except for one aspect. The design does not take into account trying to make the front of your sound bar flush with the front of the TV when installation is complete. Monkeying around with this took me a little over an hour to solve. Standard installation without this goal would probably be 15 minutes or so.My suggestion to the manufacturer is to provide a screw and a rubber tipped nut that can be placed in the lower part of the bracket, just at the bottom of the TV. It can fit in the existing slots, and would allow you to provide a small amount of pressure to the solid part of the back of the TV near the bottom edge to push the bracket backwards, allowing for the front bar to be flush with the TV. The screw would allow you to tweak the setback to be just perfect. This is what I mocked up in a cruder way, but the result was perfect.
Brackets were unfortunately *not* mirror images of each other -- there is a "handedness" to them.
November 20, 2014
I needed universal brackets to hold a center speaker (Energy Take 5) atop my 55" LCD TV. These looked like a good fit because the shape seemed to allow more options for a closer fit (since I wasn't mounting a wide soundbar), and they were offered at a lower price compared to other options. These brackets worked "ok." The biggest disappointment was that the two brackets are shaped in an odd way: They are both very slightly curved outward, but in the same direction when you lay the brackets on top of each other. So, when you flip one bracket over (so they mirror each other, and the two "ears" point at each other, as you would to mount a speaker), they end up *not laying flush against the TV* in the same way. It's as if I received two "left handed" brackets. This was extremely annoying: What it meant was that one bracket was somewhat further away from my speaker (by more than a quarter of an inch), when the other was laying flush against the speaker. Frustrated, I ended up using the gap between the brackets to actually overlap them and mount my speaker with just one screw that passed through both brackets. (That is, I had the ends of both ears actually on top of each other). If I was trying to mount an actual soundbar, I'd find this "handedness" in the brackets very frustrating and would probably end up with a somewhat wonky, uneven mounting job. Other than that, the overall shape does allow for a lot of options and positioning -- though you could probably use an extra set of hands to hold your speaker while you slide the brackets around to find the right mount points.
They work... with a lot of tinkering
March 7, 2014
These were a lot bigger than I expected. Not a bad thing, they are just pretty big. These eventually worked and did the job, but not without a lot of thinking and tinkering.I couldn't place them as directed due to the power cord placement on my 2014 Samsung LCD. The power cord placement would not let the bracket align with the mount hole on the TV. I had to place both of them upside down and flared inward. While the left one was able to aligned to the mount hole, no matter what how I rotated it, the right one would not align. I end up pinching the bracket in between the TV and the wall mount and then zip tying it in place for added support. It worked and it looks normal, but it took a lot of trial and error. There should be a better configuration and shape pattern for these brackets to be truly universal.

Very Unnatural Voice Reproduction.
January 27, 2016
This soundbar has very unnatural sounding voice reproduction. Voices sound "buzzy" and distorted at all volume levels. I tried all the different sound modes and voice settings, but it didn't help. Adjusting bass and treble had no effect either. If you want to test just how bad the soundbar is, just turn down the sub all the way. It sounds like a bad clock radio. I've owned a Sony HT- CT100 soundbar for over 10 years that sounds much better than this. This soundbar was a definite downgrade so I had to return it.
HDMI Switching not working as one would expect
December 25, 2015
Sounds good, and unless you switch between different inputs it is fine, but if you intend to switch between different devices such as the blue tooth audio and then switch back to HDMI, the video is not being relayed only the sound comes through the sound bar. very disappointing. Think I may send it back.
Not Worth it at ALL.
November 27, 2015
I was torn between the HTCT370 and HTCT380 because I was suspicious of the differences, so I purchased the HTCT because it was cheaper. My suspicions were correct; other than a few design changes, sonically they were pretty much the same and I couldn't tell them apart (tested them at a local best buy).

Pros:
+Design. It looks great and grabs attention no matter where you decide to place it. It looks very nice
+HDMI ARC Output + 3 HDMI Inputs. This is great for Vizio/Samsung/Toshiba tv's especially since those tv's are not known to compress that audio from devices that are connected through the tv.
+Dolby support. Check out the spec sheet. DTS, DTS-HD Master Audio, DTHD, DD+, DTS 96/24
+Bass and Treble Adjustments
+Will sit perfectly flush under a 40" TV

Cons:
-Recessed Mids. Sony tries to combat this with a "voice" feature on their remote which can attempt to bring out the dialogue in movies, but fails terribly. Just adds sibilance.
-Takes a few seconds to turn on when it detects a signal.
-Pathetic Highs.
-Settings don't really make a difference
-No Simulated 3d effect
-Sound Mono when compared to competing soundbars

This device MSRP's for $350, as does the HTCT380. Let me tell you that Vizio's SB3821 2015 Soundbar sounds better and MSRPs for about half and can be found cheaper on any given day of the week. In fact, even on sale, the HTCT370/380 isn't cheaper than the Vizio on a regular day.

If sound quality is of utmost important, get the Vizio. It's an uglier bar though, but it's 3d effect is way better and the subwoofer is punchier. Dialogue is crystal clear and more music genres sound better. The difference isn't even subtle.
Pretty good sound and great features for the money - while it worked.
December 27, 2014
This Sony sound bar with the wireless subwoofer sounds pretty good. Of course the unit relies on the subwoofer for the bass, so you need to make sure it's turned on. The sound bar has three HDMI inputs, and it selects the device that is on automatically. It has Bluetooth connectivity, so you can download a basic Sony app to control it, and you can also stream your music to it, using it as a wireless speaker.

I really enjoyed this device, while it was working. It lasted about a week. As I was watching TV, it lost its lock on HDMI 1 input and started hunting for a signal, each time, it would lock back on to the signal I was watching, but every few seconds, the picture and sound would be interrupted. Of course when I disconnected the HDMI cables and connected them to the back of my TV, the problem cleared up instantly.

I want to praise Amazon for their return policy. I went online to Amazon.com, and after just a few clicks, I had a return UPS address label. The next day, the instant UPS picked up the package, a complete refund was initiated by Amon, and the next morning, the money was in my account.

The Bottom Line, this sound bar has all the features I wanted, and sounded pretty good for the money. I wish it was still here working. I would have given this 4 stars.
Not at all impressed
August 29, 2014
I have an older Sony soundbar and wireless subwoofer and love it. That is why when I needed another one, for a different room, I looked again to Sony. This is a newer version and has a different design for both the bar, and the subwoofer. Most unfortunately its terrible. The subwoofer at a mere 10 feet from the soundbar would drop in and out of connection, AND the overall sound of the system is very week as compared to my older Sony soundbar. The bass is weak and not rich, and the overall sound is weak. I have to turn it way up in a medium sized room to get the effect I desire. I had to return it because of the regular communication drops between the bar and subwoofer. I purchased the Sony HT-CT660 46-Inch Sound Bar with Wireless Subwoofer as a replacement and I LOVE IT! I would recommend that product over the CT370.

Wifi stopped working a year after I bought it
January 15, 2017
Well, a year later the wifi won't connect anymore. I tried everything I could think of. After Sony's internet support chat guy was ZERO HELP AT ALL, I started reading the internet for clues. Basically, I had to follow these steps before I could watch a show on the Amazon Prime app:1. Connect the blu-ray player directly to the modem with an ethernet cable2. Hard-reset by unplugging the power cord, waiting for 60 seconds, plugging it back in3. Under settings, do a factory reset4. Another hard-reset5. Under settings, set up the wired connection6. Do a software update7. Sign back in on the appsAfter the software update everything is running quickly and smoothly (even though it's still plugged straight into the cable modem, which is not the result I wanted).Blu-rays and DVDs play just fine, but I bought this specifically because I don't have a Smart TV and I needed it to function like one.
Sony, not as good as they use to be!
January 15, 2017
This unit works pretty well, but we have had software issues since we got it! Have not contacted Sony yet to see if there is an update or something. And when you go in to update, it says already updated to the latest version. We will probably send it back. We did buy the product replacement agreement thankfully! It will only run apps like Pandora or Netflix for about 20-30 minutes then lock up. You have to completely turn off and unplug the unit to get it to reset! We've had this problem with three Sony products so far. We're thinking about replacing all our Sony's with Samsung devices!Less than six months, the unit locked up and no longer works
Another Freaking Sony Piece of Junk
October 4, 2016
Awful. Classic Sony engineering.Where to start?Youtube crashes constantly, and the playback 'skitters'--jumps ahead suddenly. The apps like Youtube sometimes take extra time to initialize. The poor user sees a series of b/w menu's with a bunch of jargon--"Initializing rigamarole...Connecting to doohickey..." It ends with text on the screen--'The Internet Content you requested is read'--and you need to click to get away from it.The DVD and Blu-Ray playback LOOKS good BUT......Any time you wake the device up, it wants to play the DVD! It restarts play exactly where you left off. Even if you navigate elsewhere and choose an app like Hulu--it just starts playing the freaking DVD....whereas Blu-Ray WILL NOT RESUME WHERE YOU LEFT OFF. This happens on every Blu-Ray I've tried so far. The player goes back to the menu, and you have to navigate or scrub to get to where you were.IF you learn the trick for bookmarking where you left off, and IF you remember to do so, you're okay. But good gravy, should this stuff not be automatic? So:Playback mostly fine, with glitches. It has a mind of its own when it comes to resuming DVD playback.Try to watch your Blu-Ray in one sitting without moving: otherwise, you'll spend all the time you set aside to watch a movie navigating through menus and fast-forwarding.
YOU MUGHT REGRET ORDERING THIS!!!!

After I had this Blu-ray player for six months, the child lock would not let me in or out of the Blu-ray player. I called Sony, and they spent one hour on the phone with me trying to fix it and then finally admitted that it needed to be replaced. I waited quite a while for the new equipment to come and when it arrived, within one month, I was having the same child lock problem! It turns out this must be a flaw in the equipment itself, because you can find all kinds of postings about the trouble consumers have with this defect. I am so disappointed that the second machine is not working! Today I called Sony and they are yet sending a third machine with the hopes that it will work. They assured me that every time they replace a Blu-ray player they never send a reconditioned one but only a brand-new one. Here's hoping that this third try will be successful. I gave this post two stars only because Sony has been willing to work with me on the problem.
Super slow loading, has problems streaming withpoor picture quality, and remote stops working while using
October 3, 2015
I dont know what sony is thinking. First off I've owned three different Sony blu ray players and all of them have different netflix software. I've owned the BDP-bx37 which is still in use in our master bedroom and was only moved there because I needed a player with wifi. Now introduce the Sony nsz-gt1 which was cool while it was compatible with things. It was fast to load, the remote was a little keyboard, which made searching for stuff easy. Then there were no more updates for google tv which kind of sucked. Then the the player started to have problems reading discs. And then the frosting on the cake was it was no longer compatible with amazon instant video. So I looked for a player that was. I couldn't find anything that I liked that really had good reviews so I was over having the amazon instant video, since I can play it through my computer to my tv. So I was back to just getting a good wifi player which lead me to the BDP-S3500. Which appears to have fairly decent reviews. Wrong!!!!! Super slow, has problems streaming, and I constantly have to unplug and plug it in to get the remote to start working again and for the app screen to load everything. So unfortunately I waited about a week to long to return it to amazon, which would have been easy. Now I'm torn, cut my losses or try to deal with Sony and hope they replace it with a new one not a refurbished one. : (
Over-rated by Far!
August 4, 2015
I thought this player would be great - it seemed so when I first hooked it up but now I find that although it can connect to my wi-fi, it has problems with the internet. After doing a lot of online research it appears that this is a common problem with this unit. I have tried all of the various instructions, settings, and recommendations and finally last night the unit connected to the internet and I was almost able to watch an entire movie on Netflix. 20 minutes from the end, the internet connection went out and a day later I'm still not able to get connected. I have many other devices (including another Blue Ray) that are connecting just fine so this seems to be a problem unique to the SONY.I've tried to contact SONY support but cannot find a phone number. Live Chat ignored me, but did send me to a form to rank their support on Live Chat!! I am totally fed up with this equipment. I've always been a strong SONY fan but not anymore. I relied on the Amazon rankings when I made the choice for this unit - and maybe no one else has had this problem - I threw away the box or I would mail it back to Amazon. As it is I'll probably just trash it!UPDATE!After reading another reviewer's comments, I tried his suggestion and unplugged the power cord (from the unit, not from the wall since the player is in a big wall unit). I left it unplugged for 3 minutes - plugged it back in - went to Netflix and everything worked ok.I'm not changing my star rating because I think a big name company like SONY should have better support and shouldn't require their units be disconnected/reconnected to power to work. I'm only happy that I can now watch the rest of the movie I couldn't finish last night!

January 6, 2017
I vowed to never get another Sony home theater product in 2001 after my dvd player broke after 1 year of ownership. I help true to that pledge until I purchased this piece of crap. I bought it because it had the 2d to 3d conversion on it. I never use it, although to be fair, I rarely watch 3d movies as much as I thought, or would like. My issue is connectivity via apps such as Netflix, YouTube, Amazon, etc... Unreliable. Free time is scarce, when you come home and have 2 hours before you need to go to bed and you waste 5 to 15 minutes trying to get the stupid thing to connect to the internet or reset because it froze up is frustrating beyond belief. Save your money. Get a different player for less. If you just plan on watching DVD's/Blu-rays its fine ,but any dumb player can do that. Not worth the price. I'm back on the never Sony bandwagon.
Worked Fine, But Now It Freezes
August 9, 2016
I purchased this in October of 2015. This seemed to be the highest rated player with the most options from a reputable manufacturer, and it worked as hoped for 4 months of sporadic Netflix and Amazon use. Then the freezing problems began, even AFTER a firmware update.I can 100% confirm the freezing issues; it can happen when clicking the app shortcuts to Netflix, Amazon, etc., it can happen during a movie OR a Pandora/XM-Sirius broadcast, it can happen when exiting an application, or even when just trying to turn the damn thing off with the remote (it won't respond). The ONLY thing that's proven to resolve it is to unplug the power cable from the back for 10 seconds or so, then go back into the app. I checked for another firmware update in July-ish, but nothing yet.It provides access to the standard streaming services (see the device info for details), and the picture is what I would expect it to be for a Blu-Ray device, but I'm afraid to rely upon it too heavily for dedicated entertainment purposes because it will inevitably freeze at the wrong moment and I'll make it a $100 Frisbee. So for now it exists solely as a secondary device in a bedroom.I'll be looking at other manufacturers going forward. I don't recommend this device.
Apps crash frequently
July 13, 2016
The apps frequently crash and are extremely sluggish compared to my Amazon Fire Tv and Stick. If I try and ffwd or rwnd in hulu or netflix I risk a black screen that requires unplugging to fix.UPDATE 7/19Software update helped, but some key apps still lock up the machine about one every hour or two of use. Also experience long pauses/frozen scenes in apps like Netflix (using a 15mbps cable isp service). These pauses rarely occur with Amazon stick. Also had the player not even load its own menus correctly this morning after a restart. Decided to continue my return and look for a dedicated bluray player and leave streaming to the Amazon sticks.
What I Like: It is small
February 10, 2016
I purchased this Blu-ray player about five months ago. After living with it, I'm actually taking a break from my life to share the following:What I Like:It is small, has an elegant, reasonably intuitive interface, and the picture quality is great. What I Don't Like:My experience is that it locks up all the time. Routine operations, such as pausing, fast forwarding and rewinding streaming video results in the whole system locking up. None of the buttons on the remote work when this happens, and not even the power button on the front of the unit. I verified that there are no firmware updates. Performance is just miserable. I have had to completely unplug the unit to reset it about a dozen times.Summary:The worst Sony product I have owned; the worst DVD/Blu-ray player I have owned.
Great if the connection stayed
December 21, 2015
Loved it when we first got it( right before Christmas) they it started dropping connection.. I could be on my laptop surfing the web etc no issues, but the DVD Player all of a sudden would start buffering, dropping connection and our streaming stopped. Not sure why the wireless blows so much on this, but it does. We shut it off, turn back on and it says that it can't connect to the server, meanwhile all other devices connect fine. we've done a software update and nothing
After one month problems/ now freezes
September 5, 2015
After one month started having some issues when streaming. Consistently snowy when streaming and playing DVDs. I have to switch to another device to stream clearly. Now after few a few months, it freezes all together and has to be unplugged to reboot. My worst Amazon purchase yet!

Substantial cable. You may not need as much length as you think.
June 1, 2016
Update: appears to be failing after 2 yrs of very light use. Computer monitor goes blank multiple times a day, but no error message (as when a driver fails, or a capacitor is starting to go). The original older, thinner HDMI cable (that came with monitor) does not have this problem. Overbuilt wire sheath - too thick and inflexible, yet apparently did not contribute to durability of connection. Out of warranty. Downgrading to 2 stars.Original review:Works well. I probably didn't need such a long, substantial cable; indeed, 15 feet of this stuff is not at all light. One thing I discovered about using a TV as an alternate laptop monitor - at a distance, even a wide screen TV may take up less of your visual field than your much smaller but closer laptop screen. Consequently, we're only using this for playing DVDs through the laptop, since our most recent TV does not even have component inputs for our DVD players.
Not What I Expected
February 27, 2016
I bought this cable so I could watch my laptop on my tv at my convenience. Each time I used it, I unrolled it, plugged it in and then unplugged it and re-rolled it when I was done, just as it came packaged. The cable is very thick and heavy and hard to keep open. It continuously re-rolled itself while I was trying to use it, pulling the cable out of my tv or pulling my laptop off the table. I've only used it 4 or 5 times and now the sound won't work. I wouldn't recommend this cord if you plan to unplug and re-roll it each time you use it. Maybe if it is plugged in and not touched it may be alright.
Thick and Inflexible
January 5, 2016
I have to give Amazon props for giving us access to cost-effective cables. However, I had practical issues with the 25' version of this cable. It's way too thick so it's not very flexible. I barely got it plugged into the first TV I tried to use it with and it seems like it was still putting stress on the plug. I've found it a home on a TV with better access to the HDMI port, but would really like a more limber version of this cable.
Went out in 2 years
December 7, 2015
I purchase this couple years ago and found them to be of good quality and reasonably priced compared to what you could buy at bestbuy and walmart. However, 2 years later one of these cables stopped working completely and eventually all 3 that I had purchased went out. I had run these HDMI cables through the walls when we were building our house, now that they have gone out, it would be difficult to replace them. Keeps me wondering if I would have been better off paying more for a higher quality hdmi cable and save the hassle of taking down the wall to replace these cables in just 2 years.
Cables over 6ft are not 4-5 stars!
March 19, 2015
I bought this cable because of the 20,000+ positive reviews. Unfortunately, I think the reviews are more appropriate for the SHORTER versions of this cable. The 15ft version of the cable I bought had to be returned because it didn't work! It was extremely thick compared to similar cables available. (A high quality cable doesn't have to be thick too!) When I installed it between my wall mounted TV and my satellite box it was run through an existing in-wall flex conduit. While I could run the cable without any abnormal bending of the cable, I did not find it very flexible. This cable reminds me of the thickness of the old monster cables without the quality. The video would work without sound and sometimes not at all. Very disappointed! I love amazon, but in this case you can do better if you need a cable longer than 6ft!

Didn't fit 55"+Vizio soundbar setup, have to visit hardware store
October 6, 2017
While it includes extensive hardware, it's not really universal in my case. For my setup, a TCL 55" and a Vizio soundbar, the brackets are several inches too short. Whether mounted below or above the TV, the soundbar can barely peek around it, even when mounted using the furthest holes on each end. Not sure if it's Vizio's fault for having wide mount points or if these brackets just don't work for TVs that are 55" and up.I'll have to hit the hardware store to try and make it work.

Does not work with Sharp Aquos 46" TV - an older model has a small ridge on the back bottom, so this product won't lay flat. Decent construction though, with lots of hardware, so I'm giving it 2 stars.
Not universal
January 7, 2017
Far from universal as far as I'm concerned. I had to Mickey Mouse the installation to get it to work with my LG soundbar
Partly Universal..
October 22, 2016
Attempted use with a LG SoundFlow Soundbar, and even with the provided bracket by LG, these bars would only reach one hole on the back of the soundbar. Bars were sturdy and I assume would work on a soundbar with two holes total instead of four. It did hold with two out of the holes secured that I needed but was too wobbly for my liking.
Doesn't mount properly on Panasonic 50"
May 9, 2013
With a presumably any recent Panasonic 50" TV (they all use the same rear panel VESA config), this thing will mount your soundbar a good 8" above the top of the TV, which looks absurd. I was able to fudge the config with some strange diagonals to get the soundbar about 5" above the top, but it's still a lot higher than planned. See in the picture, how the slats along the long end only good about halfway? That's the problem. There needs to be a third opening to be able to bring the mount down further.
Be prepared to rig your own fastener solution!
May 1, 2013
If you have a bigger soundbar with built-in mounting threads on the back, then this bracket is definitely for you. If you have the "teardrop" bracket, Sewell does not include any fasteners to attach to your soundbar. I ended up buying some locknuts and lots of trial and error, but the soundbar is not as secure as I'd like it to be on the bracket. Also, if you have a smaller soundbar (I've got a Sony CT150), you will see the tops of the bracket peeking up from the soundbar. Not ideal.

I bought this Sound Bar last June 2015 due to good reviews from many places. It has been doing great until last month. The unit keeps cutting sound from the speaker and only hear chopping voices most of the times. Switched the optical cables and it does not help. Turn off the Sound Bar and use the TV Speaker, no chopping sounds; turn on the Sound Bar again and chopping sounds return. It's not even a year and the unit getting worst and not usable. Very disappointed on the quality.

Sony fan speaking honestly
September 24, 2015
I really wanted to like this sony especially having a Sony TV etc. The truth is the bass is probably the best I've ever heard on a soundbar, however when you think about what a voice is supposed to sound like this sound bar makes everything sound like a speaker in a box. It's like all of my audio is constantly talking into a pillow. And yes they do have a voice enhancing mode which is ultimately is what sold me on this one, however it really does nothing at all, they have three voice settings the first one is a speaker in a box, the second one you can hear a slight improvement, the third one you hear good amount of vocal clarity however it crushes everything down so all you really hear is treble. Now I know what you must be thinking surely you can just enhance the bass, I tried this and yes it made it sound a little bit better..but it did not do anything to help the fact that this sony sound bar just absolutely forgot to add the mids into the system. I'm sitting here trying to calibrate it as we speak and it just isn't going my way, and when you consider the fact that this is a relatively expensive product it definitely does not live up to the dollar sign that it asks for. It is beautiful to look at, it is easy to take out of the box / install, it is packaged beautifully with beautiful graphics on the outside of the box, but at the end of the day it just does not deliver any form of mids for vocals. This is highly frustrating considering the fact that I actually really like Sony and I'm pretty much buying everything Sony, however when it comes to their sound bar my bravia has better sound which is pathetic! if I'm paying you nearly $300 for better sound, then that of my TV deliver it. So stressful, this sound bar really is not a strong performer for its price range, you will be better off just looking elsewhere as much as it might hurt you to do so or irritate you. There is nothing worse than having no lug a giant sound bar back to the UPS store to ship it off. Trust me and learn from my mistake. Positive reviews are clearly coming from people who have either never owned a sound bar before, for people who just go into it expecting it to sound like a TV speaker. By no means are any of these positive reviews actually accurate.. I decided to listen to the positive reviews and as a result I'm stuck having to end up as one of the negative. Don't be that guy that overlooks the negative things that people are saying is specially in my case because what I'm telling you is the truth. The Sony ct 370 is just not worth your money go spend it somewhere else good luck.

OK player, but firmware update issues make it a failed product
July 24, 2017
This is a decent-enough Blu-ray player with Wi-Fi connectivity. I found it a bit slow to boot up, but otherwise worked fine. Ultimately, however, this product failed miserably for me due to it 1) having a problem with eventually freezing up when left idle, and 2) proving impossible to update the firmware--whether over the network or using a USB dongle. I see the latter issue has been noted by many people. Most unfortunately for me, this issue first occurred once it was outside the 1-year manufacturer's warranty. Here is a frustrating fact about today's consumer electronics: by the time you figure out whether a product has any sort of longevity, it has already been dismissed as yesteryear's model. So reading Amazon reviews doesn't really help much with this aspect of product selection.
Garbage I'm in the process of getting my second replacement ...
April 28, 2016
GarbageI'm in the process of getting my second replacement for this piece of trash since originally ordering one last September. In both cases, the unit failed in the exact same way:- Blu-ray disc wouldn't eject.- I followed Sony's online instructions for fixing the issue.- After the disc is ejected and I restarted the unit, the remote control was unresponsive and the home screen flashed briefly before the screen went black. In both cases I called the support number and they walked me through the reset instructions without success. This second time I asked for a refund instead of a new unit, but Sony refused and is insisting I get yet another replacement unit. The first time I got a replacement I had to pay the shipping costs to return the defective unit, so my $78 player now cost me $98. They said they would pay for shipping this time, but it's more time lost going to FedEx to ship the unit and the hours I've spent on the phone dealing with Sony.I've been a fan of Sony's products for many years (multiple TVs, PS3, etc...), so this is very disappointing. Because of the poor quality of this product and their refusal to issue me a refund after my replacement unit failed, I will not be purchasing anymore Sony products.I strongly discourage anyone from purchasing this product.
Attempted to connect to internet for over 2 hours (with & without Sony Support), but player was defective & would not connect.

I have a 5 year old non-internet connected Sony Blu-ray player Model #BDP-S380 that has worked flawlessly since I purchased it. I decided to update with a new wireless Sony Blu-ray player. What a disaster! I attempted to connect it to my internet for over an hour by trouble shooting every possible problem with no luck. It would not even connect to update. I contacted Sony support via the internet (that happened quickly & easily at least via my laptop) & basically was told to perform everything that I had previously attempted. No luck. Failed connection repeatedly. I was told by the technician that the unit was defective. I returned it to Amazon. I am in no hurry to repeat this experience anytime soon. I wasted over 2 hours of my life on a piece of junk. It seems like everything you buy now is just as likely to be defective as to work properly. I will return to using my trusty old player for the present time. I really like my old unit, but I am no longer sure that a new Sony would be a good purchase. I will probably purchase another unit at a later date, but no time soon as I am fairly aggravated at the present time with the entire process. Hopefully, I will get one that works properly next time!
What a POS

I don't think I've ever written a one-star review for anything. So here it comes. This unit stopped working after just 1.5 mos. of use. Amazon won't take it back because it's over a month, and additional warranty from SquareTrade is a joke because they simply refer me to Sony's CS number. Well, and the CS is terrible as they put you on hold forever and bounce you from one (overseas) department to another. Sony, once a reputable company making solid product, has disintegrated into this sprawling unwieldy conglomerate which builds crappy stuff in 3rd world countries and won't stand behind it either. Oh, and what broke wasn't software/firmware. It was power connection. It's so flimsy that the power simply shuts off and sometimes (after a little wiggling around) comes back on. I could just solder it better, but it's a hassle and time sink.Needless to say, I'm still trying to return or exchange it. But this will most likely be the last time I buy anything built by Sony. Too bad.UPD (Apr. 2016) After many tries (some reflected in this post's comments) I was able to get a replacement. The new Blu-Ray player seems to work just fine. I must say, the whole experience left me with mixed feelings. I shouldn't have taken that long to replace or repair a defective product after just 1.5 mos. of use. In particular, CS with that snazzy website that doesn't do anything but provide phone numbers (and then you're put on hold ad infinitum) needs to be modified by Sony to ensure repeat business.

I am giving only 4 stars because this player does have some flaws... and I had to exchange for another one.We rec'd our 1st player and eagerly set it up right away. It worked so nice! I loved not having to turn on a computer and go through all the steps to bring up amazon to watch shows and/or listen to music. The first day was great... the second not perfect. After playing music (Pandora) for about 45 min it froze. I tried several things but nothing would play, finally I unplugged it, waiting 20 sec then plugged in again. It came up and played the rest of the day with out any issues. The next day turned out like the second one, I had to unplug, wait, replug and then went through the day. The fourth turned out like the second and third... have to unplug. Well after a week of that I decided that it wasn't a benefit anymore to have.I chatted with a Sony associate and he had me reset the box back to factory default (after making sure my updates were done... they were.) It started playing again but the next morning the same issue came back. So I called.I know businesses have lots of people all over taking their calls to trouble shoot but really an American caller should be able to get a person that speaks clear English so they understand them. Language issues set aside she wasn't any help. She would repeatedly ask me to hold and come back with suggestions that we had already tried. After she exhausted her "guide" (I assume she was reading from) she stated that we would have to return for refund that their product wasn't compatible with our Samsung tv. Really? It's odd that all of our other equipment... sound system, VHS, other DVD, worked fine and were all Sony products.I contacted Amazon, and they shipped me a replacement player (Thank you Amazon!) We switched them out and for two days did great... then an issue. Thankfully a friend of ours had the same box and same issues... they took theirs out of the cabinet and had it setting on top (good air flow) and not as many problems.I investigated the player... they have maybe 1/16" 'feet' on the bottom, and guess where the air flow vent is... on the bottom!I took some left over bumpers that we had from our cabinets (little plastic half circles to prevent door slamming) and put 4 new feet on it, they set up about 1/4" and guess what no more problems!I now love my player, it works as it should, it's still in my cabinet out of the way.Now I will add that it's not the fastest to connect to internet, we even used ethernet cable to see if it would help but it still connects slow. Given that small issue it is a great BlueRay for the price, I will also add that as much as I love Amazon, Walmart has put them at a much lower price, probably because they are 2015 models. So if you have issues don't assume it is junk, it maybe a common problem of over heating... I still think our first box was flawed beyond that but the second has been playing fine.**Amended... I take back saying it may not be junk... it may very well be. It has issues... more than I am willing to continue with. I am returning for refund this time and moving on to another choice. We were working good for two weeks with the 'fix' mentioned above, then after posting my review it started to have problems again (Murphy's law?) At first it was intermittent then after about a week it was daily, this last week it's been more than once a day I had to reboot (unplug from power, wait, then try again). It still could be heat issues as we get a lot of solar gain and it's been warming up outside, the whole house gets toasty during the day. But it's enough already! It's not a convenience if you have to drop what you're doing to reboot the box multiple times. So goodbye to this one and I am on the hunt for a better one. This may be a cheaper model but it's the law of 'you get what you pay for' I'll pay more for one I don't have to babysit.
Don't buy this player!
February 11, 2016
I bought this back in August, used it about 3 or 4 times. Then when I am having a few people over for a blu-ray movie night about a week ago it starts playing the movie fine, then starts randomly blanking the screen for a moment. I unplug the cable and plug it into my HTPC and there is no issue -- playback is fine. Plug it back into the Sony and after a few minutes it starts again. What a piece of junk!

Freezes Like the Arctic

Shortly after starting the first DVD I played in this player, it froze. I checked the DVD in another player and on two computers and the DVD played with no problems. I unplugged the player and plugged it back in, used scene selection to go back to where it froze, and it played with no problem. The next disk got about half way through before freezing... and so on. I did the software update, followed several links and "solutions" provided by Sony in response to similar complaints, cleaned the head, and found nothing but unplugging the unit, waiting a while, and plugging it back in works. This is not acceptable. When I want to watch a movie, I don't want to have to stop it a little ways through it to reset the player. If it had happened just once or twice, I could have lived with it, but this has happened on almost every disk I've tried to play, whether DVD or BluRay. I have tried giving this player every chance, but I am initiating a return today, before my return window closes on the 13th.
POS. Buy something else.

Jyup, piece of trash. doesn't have enough ram to deal with using the built in apps. Plex streams perfectly through an xbox, but causes this thing to crash. Now the video cutting out every couple of seconds for no reason, trouble-shooting has isolated the problem to the player and not other electrical gremlins. I had a previous sony player that I gave away to "upgrade" to this player, man I lost out on that bargain.
Crashed after a few months!
May 23, 2016
Failed after 3 months!! This unit would intermittently cut off entirely. The quality of the Blu-ray player was acceptable when it worked, but my wireless reception such as Amazon was poor. Unfortunately I kept it too long to return. Strongly recommend against purchasing this unit.

May 21, 2016
Horrible player. After using it about a week it started freezing up all the time and has a hard time logging into Hulu sometimes. Things kinda resolved themselves for a while, and then 5 months later it froze on us, so we unplugged it to start it over and a piece from the plug fell out! Now Sony won't do anything to help us because now it's physical damage because their craftsmanship is shotty! Not happy with Sony. They were surprisingly rude and didn't seem to have much of a knack for customer care. I will not be buying from Sony ever again. 5 mos and $100 completely wasted. Thankfully I bought a SquareTrade warranty- hopefully they will be able to take care of us.
Junk & Waste of Time - Remote did not work and could not set up.
March 25, 2016
Junk. Have always had Sony DVD playes and never a problem. Not sure if its product or seller, but got this product and remote does not work. A simple 60 seconds quality check would have told them that the on and off power button and the up and down keys doe not work. Remote did not came with AAA batteries (always a bad sign) and even with new batteries - remote did not work.
Piece of Junk!
January 11, 2016
I purchased one player and when received, it wouldn't even turn on. I sent it back and Amazon shipped another one. It arrived today and after hooking it up, it wouldn't turn on either. The only way I found to turn either unit on was to unplug it, plug it back in and then immediately hit the eject button on the unit. The remote wouldn't operate the unit at all. This player is a piece of junk. I usually like Sony products, but this is terrible. I'm returning this one for a refund and will find a different player to purchase.

Terrible Product I would give it NO STARS IF THAT WAS AN OPTION
December 27, 2016
I would give this no stars if you were able to..I bought this last December and just now got my daughter to switch monitors. After she connected it the color is washed out and the background white color is gray. No Matter how she tried to correct the color it didn't get any better...A terrible product and it was suppose to be a high quality product.. I would never buy it again nor recommend it to anyone..
LASTED TWO MONTHS!!
November 6, 2016
I ordered a 2-pack and used both to set up a new TV with cable box and DVD at the end of August 2016. One cable stopped working at the end of October 2016. The other is still working. To help the less savvy senior citizens like myself, I will pass on some information. If everything works fine in your setup and then suddenly the TV says "no signal," it possibly means you have a cable gone bad, even though you haven't done anything at all to even touch anything. Try replacing the cable that connects the TV to the source of the missing signal, and see if things work now. Better yet, buy higher quality cables to start with.
Would like a refund
February 13, 2016
Update.Purchased two of these for an on wall install with hidden wires, lot's of labor. Both worked for 90 days and then one failed,50% failure rate is totally unacceptable.Have used other brands for years with zero failures.Would like a refund, but even that will not come close to comping me for the labor. If your doing an install with hidden wires do not even think about using these.
Hit or miss

I bought these for my new Samsung 4k TV, but unfortunately it failed on the second day. Suddenly my audio/video signal from Verizon Fios disappeared. Fortunately I remembered the reviews I read up on this product and quickly changed to my old HDMI cables and voila! everything worked. I bought Amazon basics before (HD antenna and iPhone charger) and had no problems, but this is something Amazon might want to take a closer look at. In all fairness, it might not be the HDMI cable, but Verizon Fios (after all its not 4k yet) or even my Pioneer receiver, who knows. These cables are cheap enough to try, so even if they're a dude it's not much money wasted.
Cheap connectors break easily
September 10, 2015
The cable itself has a good feel so it seems it might be of good quality but the cables have poorly made connectors. The two springs which are supposed lock the connector in place seem to break faster than any USB cable I have ever had. If the connector doesn't stay locked in, it doesn't matter how good the rest of the cable is because it simply won't work. One cable lasted me up to month and one cable lasted me a few days. The rest only lasted 2-3 weeks. I spent a little more and bought cables from other brands. The Amazon and Anker cables are way better and you should consider getting those instead.
Dissapointing Amazon Basics product
January 5, 2015
This Item was so very disappointing. I assumed that it being an amazon basics product that it would at least work...Boy was I wrong. I was in a bit of a rush when I purchased this so I chose amazon basics assuming that it would be a good enough product. I used this first between an ipad air and a lightening adapter and a sony bravia 55inch television. The video was very poor with intermittent (every 2secs) breaks in video. Also there was continuous lines and static and not sure how else to describe it other than it looked like I needed to adjust my antenna...except there is no antenna. I then attempted to use this cable between my PC and the same TV..temporarily replacing the existing and perfectly working aurum Ultra series cable (bought from amazon also) thinking that maybe the ipad was not powerful enough....again i was wrong..the video quality was the same.I just ordered 'Aurum Ultra Series - High Speed HDMI Cable (30 Ft) With Ethernet - Supports 3D & Audio Return Channel [Latest Version] - 30 Feet'This is a proper replacement that I am certain will work exceptionally.

Not universal
August 27, 2015
Would not fit my Sony sound bar no matter what I tried. I would have had to grind some metal away from the mounting holes on this "universal" bracket to make it work.
Not for me
October 3, 2014
Was difficult to attach to TV and the actual screws to connect it to the sound bar is/was not included.
