This is a great unit for the price
November 29, 2014
This is a great unit for the price. It does a really good job improving the sound on my tv. No more tinny sound from the tv speakers. I have read negative comments about it shutting itself off after about 15 minutes if there is no sound going through it. If it is being used for tv, DVDs or CDs, I see this as a good thing. If you forget to shut it off when you turn off the tv, it will shut down by itself. I can see where this would be an issue with someone using it as a sound system for a computer. In that case, it would be nuisance because there could be lengthy times with no sound, and the unit would be turned off just when you should be experiencing sound.
Yes, the remote is small and the buttons are small, and the print on the buttons is small. Within a few days, you get used it and will know by feel which buttons are for which function. You won't have to look at the remote to use it.
Love it.
October 29, 2014
I see a lot of the negative reviews complain about the sound level "my wife couldn't even hear it over the treadmill!"
Really?! That made me chuckle. We're talking about a soundbar designed for smaller rooms and smaller TVs. Other complaints were about speakers crackling or blowing out, again that could be from simply trying to fill a large room with sound from a bar designed for smaller spaces; pushing it too hard. Time will tell on that.
I have it in my medium sized bedroom, using it with my 32" TV, and absolutely love it. It gets too loud very easily in this space. Bass is nice and punchy, highs are clear and crisp. (I'm using an optical digital cable, not included).
As others have said, the remote is very small and I haven't been able to program my remote to it but I'm not taking a star away for that.
For the money and size, it's perfect.
Great Sound for the Money
October 28, 2014
Bought this for our small TV at the lake house since the TV had an awful tinny sound. This was easy to install and the sound is exceptional for this price. No it’s not up to the quality of my surround sound unit at home (costing more than 10 times what this cost) but I wasn't looking to get that quality at this price.

It is ideal for us and still amazed how great it sounds. Music, movies and more, it duplicates almost to 5.1 quality with no distortion and the sub-woofer adds great base and realism. Volume is quite loud even with my slight hearing loss but if you want a wall shaker I recommend you move up to the $250 range.

Yes the remote is small (and hard to read in low light) but fairly easy to use. The sound bar turns itself off after about 20 minutes of not receiving any audio input but I kind of like it since without any front lights on the sound bar it’s hard to sometimes remember to turn it off. I found online some codes to pair to the TV or cable remote so I will try this on my next trip to the lake
.
I recommend this for anyone who needs an inexpensive upgrade to their awful TV sound without spending more than you did on the TV!
Great things come in small packages
August 3, 2014
After my purchase of an Xbox one I saw no need for my Bluray player, unfortunately it had a surround sound system. Since I just plunked down 5 bills for the game system I needed an inexpensive alternative. After shopping around, I found this device. The reviews were great after you weeded out the trollers and haters. I was slightly skeptical but I was mistaken. The sound quality is superb. The bass from the subwoofer is amazing and hits you right in your chest. Although not as powerful as a multi speaker system it does an adequate job in translating the TV sound into a simulated surround sound experience. It also works with my gaming system which was not true of my old surround sound system. Hooks up easily with an av cable to the TV and an optical connection to my game system. The subwoofer is not wireless and it has a very thin wire that connects to the back of the unit. It also comes with a tiny remote..this is the only drawback. I don't think it will sync with a universal remote, I will have to research that. The speaker is a little over 2 feet long and approximately 2 inches high. Very light, its amazing how much sound it produces. The subwoofer is about 12 x 12 x 6 and weighs about 8 pounds. I am pleased with my purchase I'm sure you will be too!
Best Soundbar Speakers for the Price
August 22, 2013
The soundbar is the best around for the price. Please note that these are not the high end speaker soundbar system that you will use if you are a audiophile. It is a replacement for low quality flat screen speakers with no low end bass. It comes with 4 input options; optical, coaxial, stereo RCA and 3.5mm jack. I don't believe there is another brand that has all these options for the price. It does have its flaws like ridiculously small remote control, no hard buttons on the unit (so don't lose that small remote), and proprietary subwoofer cable. I like the low profile so it will sit below the TV sensor and not interfere with the TV remote. Program it to a universal logitech remote and it won't have to worry about using two remotes all the time. The volume is loud enough for typical size living rooms and the bass and treble levels are noticeable. There are no direct volume control for the subwoofer. Overall good soundbar for under $100.

If you have not priced these local you may not realize what a great deal Amazon has on Basics.
October 14, 2017
I got this to be "ready" for the new TV that Black Friday will provide! So I have not used the item yet to speak to in service quality. However the impression I get from the product and quality design and materials is very good. They are not flashy and covered in a gimmick style first design. Just good logical design and quality materials. Basics.. what you need and at a good price. If you have not priced these local you may not realize what a great deal Amazon has on Basics.
Best for the price and quality
August 11, 2017
For the price and quality this is the best cable on the market. In terms of issues there aren't any that hurt your experience but there are a few that could make it better. For instance the head of the cable is a larger making it a little difficult to get it into slots on sound bars but it still does fit snug and work great. I think these minor inconviences may bother some but for the price and quality I still think this is the best in the market
AmazonBasics Strikes Again -- High Quality Audio Cable for a Great Price!
July 4, 2017
AmazonBasics strikes again! Amazon has once again been able to produce a high quality audio cable for a great, great price! I realized that I needed a Toslink to Toslink cord after purchasing the Audioengine D-1 DAC/Amp to go with my Audioengine A5+ speakers. I needed a cord that I could connect between my computer and the DAC and I didnt want to send the audio through the usb port. This cord has been working out perfectly thus far! The cord feels sturdy, well made and of a high quality and it cant be beat for the price!
QUALITY DIGITAL AUDIO CABLE
April 28, 2017
These are good quality optical digital audio cables. The plugs fit perfectly into the sockets on my CD recorder. I also like the expanded diameter of the cable, feels more like an audio cable rather than a tiny fragile piece of glass.I'll buy more of these when I need more.Good music to you!
Strong, flexible, and a perfect length.
March 26, 2017
I bought this cable to replace the extra thin one that came with my Sony sound bar. With the old cable, my wife complained about voice sync being off. With this cable, I haven't heard any complaints! The cable shielding is thick, but flexible. The ends of the cake feel durable and reliable. The length is perfect to go from one side of my 65 inch TV to the middle of my entertainment center without tugging or being exposed. Overall, a great and affordable choice.
Good cable if its not a tight spot
November 18, 2016
I got the product pictured, not any "smaller" version. Other reviewers are correct that if you have a tight spot for this connector, they are a bit large. In my case though on the back of my TV and my soundbar there was tons of room, so no issue, no tight angles for me either (not good with an optical cable to have a sharp angle). It feels like a decent cable and I don't feel like I had to be as careful with it as I did those cables with tiny wire. I know the wire inside is tiny but these have a good size rubber outing about as thick as an HDMI cable. Works great.

Impressive overall with a couple of quibbles
January 15, 2015
Overall great sound, on par with mid- to high-range 2.1 systems. I have two machines set up in my work space and, since this has multiple input items, I no longer have to switch my speakers between the two computers and could attach a third smart phone if I wanted. One feature I'm not quite sure about is the auto shut off feature. Unlike my previous speakers, which were on 24/7 (probably draining minimal power when not in use, but still not something I was thrilled about), these will automatically shut off when not in use for a certain amount of time. Right now, this is a positive, but as there are no controls on the speaker itself, this could very easily turn into a negative if I lose the remote as I will have no way of turning it on (versus a system that is always on when plugged in). Also, the sub is now powered, so it's a bit weak compared to my previous 2.1 system where the sub received more juice than the satellite speakers. This sub sounds great when playing bass-heavy music, but doesn't really kick in much for your average movie.
Works very well, low profile, remote is a joke!!
June 19, 2014
If you buy this, and you should because it works well and you can sit it in front of your tv and it doesn't block the viewing of your tv like the first soundbar I bought on Amazon sight unseen...HOWEVER, please note that the remote that comes with this is SUPER TINY, THE SIZE OF A BOX OF TIC TACS and I'm not exaggerating. It is also very lightweight. If you're not losing it, your dog is eating it, which is what finally happened to me last week after owning this soundbar for six months and religiously keeping up with the microscopic remote. My dog is older and never even tries to eat stuff and for some odd reason she got a hold of the sucker and in two minutes it was destroyed. YOU CAN'T TURN ON OR OPERATE THE SOUND BAR WITHOUT THE REMOTE. Now, for the good news, I found this little (actually the size of a normal remote) gem and now my soundbar works again. This remote works OUT OF THE BOX, complete with batteries installed. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00A7EK5WM/ref=oh_details_o04_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
So if you buy this excellent soundbar, you'll need this link eventually as well. :) Yes, it's $37 or whatever, but it works like a dream and it came in 3 days! As for the soundbar, it does have a little subwoofer thing that I have sitting at the back of my entertainment center. The sound is very good and a soundbar was a necessity for my new super big TV, to give me the sound that I crave. Happy viewing!
My Samsung Smart tv has sound....finally
February 20, 2014
After purchasing my Samsung LED smart tv, I was sad the sound was so low (flat screen issue). So I found this sweet deal, which was exactly the right price, not crazy expensive, but just right. Hooked up with the optical cord (not included search amazon for another deal) and it sounds great. Of course this is great compared to what it was. This is my first sound bar, and I am more than satisfied with it.

If you are on a budget, but need sound, then do yourself a huge favor and buy this, it sounds excellent, and is very adjustable, with multiple inputs. Some reviews here it seems are from people not very technically sophisticated. So take the low ratings with a grain of salt, or better yet ignore them completely.

One note if you pause the show for a long time the sound bar turns off thinking you turned off the tv (energy saver) not a huge deal though, but a slightly annoying deal is the auto volume reset to stock low setting everytime the power is off. If I find any other notables I will update this.
This is a quality value sound bar but get a Harmony Remote to work with it
November 24, 2013
My wife bought this for me after we upgraded our television and realized the sound quality from the TV was terrible. Fortunately the television did have an optical audio out and after hooking it up, it sounds better than any television I've ever owned. Surround sound is gimmicky, but it really works to fill the room - we play Pandora through it all the time during meals and parties.

I would have given it five stars if not for the remote, which was tiny and easy to lose and required to turn it on (no control buttons on the bar itself), but within a couple months of buying it Harmony remotes started working with it so I programmed it to turn on the TV and sound bar at the same time, and now everything works great. The bass speaker is also lower-quality; but for $100 this is a quality set-up.

Works okay
September 12, 2017
Works okay most of the time but I hear distorted sounds over a longer period of time. I am yet to figure if that is coming from the speaker or due to the wire. That said, it's good quality so hopefully I will find and fix the issue soon
Works Good. Would buy again
July 11, 2017
For some reason I have to reset the cable connection about once a month but I don't know if it's this cable or the adapter it's plugged into.Regardless it does it's job and I get nice clean audio into my surround sound system. Love it.
I thought I had a bad cable so Amazon sent me another one the next ...
June 19, 2017
I'm giving this 4 stars even though I ended up returning it. For some reason I couldn't get any sound from my TV to my receiver. I thought I had a bad cable so Amazon sent me another one the next day --- EXCELLENT customer service --- but still it didn't work. So I am going to assume it's something either with my TV or receiver and not the cable.
REMOVE THE PROTECTIVE CAPS!!!!!
December 17, 2016
The cord works great but comes with clear plastic caps on the ends and if you're like me and never owned an optical cable before you may not have any idea what the ends are supposed to look like. I ordered a longer one months ago, plugged it right in no problem. Never had an issue with sound. Bought the 1 meter cord and one end kept popping out. I thought it was the plug and returned it, got another one. Same thing. Couldn't understand why the longer cord worked and the shorter one didn't. (Still don't. Even when nothing was pulling on it the shorter one just didn't stay plugged in.) Finally, after reading reviews I realized all of them, even the ones currently working in my house with no problem had those caps on them. Oops. LolNo packaging = No instructions = One star removed for not telling consumers how to properly use the product.
Good Works and great price
September 2, 2016
fine. no complaints. but I prefer cables that are colored. I bought one with blue at each end for same price. It makes it easier to keep track of which is going where if color coded. personal preference.
Large plugs almost too big
January 24, 2016
These AmazonBasics optical audio cables work fine and look like good quality, but be aware that the plugs are rather large and the cables rather thick. For connecting one end to my Klipsch soundbar it made for a tight turn. Works, but probably not ideal. Note in picture attached, AmazonBasics plug on left, factory cable I replaced because it was too short on right. Other picture shows how cable had to be bent to fit the space.

Depends what you are looking for...
March 15, 2016
If you are not an avid film/tv show watcher but would like upgraded sound and something that is better than your standard TV speaker, then this will do the job. The bass and mid tones are okay, but any high tones and the sound bar will not be able to handle it. The high frequencies get too high and the speaker starts to buzz. I've had this for almost 2 years but am now upgrading to a better quality soundbar. I recommend buying a really good value soundbar right off the bat, because they will last for 3+ years. My friends have a mixture of higher end ($200+) soundbars, and they've had them for 4 years now, still working great. One such as this will sadly wear out and you'll be looking for a new one. That being said, it all depends on what you are looking for. If you are looking for an average soundbar that sounds better than your stereo speaker and are not picky about how your films/tv shows sound and something that is under 100 dollars, then this is perfect. If you are an avid movie watcher and get distracted by faulted high frequencies, get something a little better. Also, the remote is so small it was lost within the first couple months. That may be just me being a college kid and loosing it.
Decent Sound; Terrible design in terms of remote control
May 24, 2015
The sound is alright. The surround sound feature is not satisfactory, but the bass and overall sound is decent for the price. The MOST frustrating aspect of this device is that you absolutely cannot program a universal remote to work with the soundbar. It simply does not accept signal from any other remote besides the one provided. I would not recommend this device due to the sub-par sound and the lack of accessory freedom.
Decent, but some obvious flaws
December 7, 2014
First, obviously one should have lowered expectations just based on the price alone. Considering the price, this isn't a bad soundbar. However, even at this price point, one shouldn't excuse bad design choices that are simply that, bad design/engineering.The soundbar is simple operation, there's optical, composite, and 3.5mm inputs. The light 'displays' are on the top of the unit and will likely be difficult to impossilbe to see depending on how high the bar is placed vs how high the viewing area is, which wasn't a very smart design choice (even at a good angle, its still hard to see and really lacks a lot of key useful information). There is no volume knob, no power button, nothing, all of that comes from the remote, and is disconcerting at the possibility of losing it, there is absolutely nothing you can do to use this soundbar (I recommend programming it into a universal remote for this reason). There is no visible queue for the current volume level, changing the volume results in various flashing lights but no incremental display. The IR input seems lacking, I'm not even certain it picks up my button presses half of the time, it takes a pretty long time to turn up or turn down the volume. As for sound, well its decent, but just like the previous Philips HTiB I had before, it excels in some areas and falls flat in others. I've watched a few movies, new and old, such as Stargate and Star Trek: Into Darkness on this soundbar. And in both of those movies, there were times where it sounded great, and times it sounded horrible. First, there's the 'surround sound' effect: on Star Trek, it worked pretty well for most of the movies, but there were just one or two scenes, such as the 'meeting at Command' scene after the bombing, and it turned too heavily into an echo effect, it wound up sounding like they recorded in a bathroom with the soundbar in surround mode. There were a few other dialogue scenes where the 'center channel' aspects such as dialogue were drowned out by the music in the background. Overall though, it sounded pretty good for most of the movie, but it seemed to have issues with the surround effect when there were competing sounds (dialogue with music, scenes with many different speakers at the same time, etc). But surprisingly, the scenes with music sounded really well, the soundbar sounded like it actually performed better at playing music then it did at playing movie scenes! WIth Star Trek: Into Darkness, turning off the surround effect left the sound feeling rather lifeless; slightly better than the TV speakers, but not by much (obviously louder and slightly fuller, but not much higher in quality).Watching Stargate, however, was a total mess. It absolutely could not be viewed with the surround effect on. The echo effect came back with a vengeance, and every single scene sounded like it was recorded in a bathroom, and not even with a good microphone (like old Misfits recordings). Turning off the effect on this movie was a significant improvement, and with this movie, the simple stereo setting really worked well and sounded significantly fuller than it did through the TV speakers. All movies and shows I tested were played through a Samsung Blu Ray player.Overall, the sound seems decent overall, excellent at times and pretty gross at others, so overall just inconsistent with its quality. The surround effect can significantly improve the sound in some scenarios, while make it far worse in others. The 'display' on top of the soundbar is a bad design and bad location, and the remote functioned poorly. But overall, those types of things aren't uncommon for a cheaper soundbar, but still, it would cost Philips nothing to improve the location and design of display at the very least.I would recommend this over anything lower priced (I've seen plenty of RCA and other brands at this price or lower, I would not recommend). I would also only recommend this for small living rooms or bedrooms (we have it in our master bedroom). Many HTiB (Home Theater in a Box) with multiple speakers will sound better than this for not too much more than the cost of this soundbar, but, if you have a picky wife like I do, unfortunately its soundbar or bust due to looks. I'm still on the fence as to whether I will keep it or return it in exchange for a more robust version, but still, I think the sound limitations will be there for most soundbars, and the only real improvement would be on the input/display of the unit.
Works for what I needed
February 25, 2014
My TV (Samsung 50" Plasma) has its speakers in the back which can commonly lead to muffled, difficult to hear and understand audio. I just wanted something that would get the audio to the front with clarity and a decent volume. Was not looking for some remarkable audio speaker system that would amaze everyone. Found this Philips SoundBar at Walmart on sale and picked it up. Easy to install and use, it does just what I want. Anytime the TV sound is not clear, or anytime I want a subwoofer, I just turn this thing on. Usually I then turn down the built-in TV speakers, but you don't have to. It works great for me.The remote is tiny and is a "must have" item. Don't lose it. I can't use it in the dark because the buttons are too small and close together. It does not light up. There is nothing to indicate what you have set the volume, bass, or treble at. You just move them up and down until you are satisfied. All in all, I am very happy with this soundbar. I did not pay $90 for a top of the line item and I did not get one. I did get the basic functionality that I was looking for. I have had it for over a year and it is still going fine. Just had it rocking the house with explosions from Iron Man 3.
Good sound! But ultimately annoying to deal with.
August 9, 2013
I'm not an audiophile; I just wanted something better than the standard tv speakers. This actually fills my living room with great sound and does a good job with simulated surround sound. If you're looking for a cheap soundbar with decent quality, this is better than that. The only gripe I have with it after a week of usage is the remote. There doesn't seem to be a way to map this to a universal remote, which is annoying.I ended up returning this soundbar in exchange for one that I can map the remote to my Logitech Harmony 650. If you're trying to save money and you don't care about adding another remote to your arsenal, it's a good soundbar. I just hate having more than one remote lying around.
Good for the price, but read update.
June 14, 2013
Bought last Fall for LG 3D TV with mediocre speakers (like all LCD TVs today). Works very well and only occasionally do I notice a lag between sound and image. For the latter, turning off all sound processing in TV reduces the effect, which now only occurs with some DVR'd programs (DVR not connected to soundbox).Update: failed in warranty period and factory replaced with refurbished unit. This one worked for another year and also failed. Bought a Vizio bar that actually works with Xfinity xr11 remote, incl on/off. Also Bluetooth for music streaming, which is handy. Big improvement and good sound.

Works?
October 10, 2017
I may not be the best person to write a review. As far as length of cord and ease of use it is good. Fit into the openings, etc. as expected. We needed it to hook to an adapter for a bluetooth headset 3.5 mm jack and our 4K TV didn't have one. Overall our TV to cord to adapter to jack on headset didn't work. All we got was white noise. My belief is that the headset isn't compatible with the 4K. The fact that I got white noise, to me, meant that the cord was working. So, yeah, it works.
Large plug
August 15, 2017
This is a very good quality cable. That being said, it didn't work for me because the plug is so large. I had a fairly small space to connect it and the plug is large and cable fairly stiff. Just be careful that it will actually fit.
Works, but cable weight causes connectivity issues
March 17, 2017
Although the cables work, they are very thick and heavy. If your device has an optical port facing out (not down), the weight of the cable pulls it slightly out of socket, causing audio loss. I fixed the issue by running the wire through a clip above the port on my TV to lift the weight of the wire off the plug, but other optical cables do not have this issue.
Good quality, doesnt secure in the slot
March 5, 2017
The cable keeps unplugging from the tv. The cable does not click in and just sits in the slot. A tiny pull will make it fall out. Other theb that good quality and works great
Did not fit.
March 1, 2017
They would not fin into my Vizio 60 in 4k TV, It may be something with the VIZIO's because I see now that other people have had the same issue. Other than this major issue the cable appeared to be of good quality. Very thick cable.

Poor sound quality
April 27, 2015
I purchased this sound bar to replace an old sound bar because I got a new TV and needed something that had a lower profile. It definitely fits the bill size wise but the sound quality is not very good. To give you an idea, the old bar I was using was a $40 random brand I ordered out of desperation because I was having so much trouble hearing dialogue, especially in movies, and needed an inexpensive quick fix and it was better than this one. I have to turn this sound bar way up to hear as well but then there is a lot of sound distortion that I wasn't getting with the old bar. It sounds even worse when you use it to listen to music. I will listen either through music channels on Roku or hook my phone up to the sound bar and either way there is a lot of distortion, even if I turn the surround off. I got mine as a lightning deal and I think there are better options in a similar or lesser price range if you are wanting an inexpensive fix.
It's pretty darn affordable
March 16, 2015
I decided I wanted to move away from a larger 5.1 setup that was using a Pioneer receiver and speakers. I was looking for a more streamlined look with fewer cables without too much sacrifice in sound and punch. This was not the product to achieve what I was seeking. The punch is almost non-existent and dialogue is often washed away by other ambient sounds in the mix.*Pros:-Nice looking-Only 2 wires needed: power and optical in-Price. It's pretty darn affordable.*Cons:-Really weak bass. I don't want Rap bass, just punchy bass for movies and gaming. This doesn't deliver.-Really hollow mids and overwhelming highs.-The above con washes away dialogue.-Cheap garbage remote that you'll lose. Recommend "teaching" its commands to a universal remote.-Makes a VERY loud and high pitch sound that might be too high of a pitch for some to hear, but it drives my dogs crazy. It is present for about 4 seconds while the system is powering on.-Over-active power saving "feature" shuts the device off in mere minutes of the movie being paused.All-in-all, I will take the $12 hit to return these. These are a really large downgrade from pretty much ANY 5.1 system. The "surround" these try and simulate is very bad and not being able to clearly hear dialogue is an absolute deal breaker. These are, however, a good upgrade from TV speakers. So if you are looking at upgrading from the stock TV speakers, these are a decent cost-effective solution for you.
Overall very disappointed, even for a low-end unit....

Had these for two weeks and was really disappointed with the quality, even at the sale price I scored. Mids were muted, big action movies were flat and music was barely enjoyable. I thought that perhaps my standards were too high, so I invited a guest over to watch a movie with me and even they were disappointed with the sound.Being an audiophile who's been out of the game for a while since having children, I wanted something that neatly tucked away that would satiate my need for slightly better quality of sound that the TV couldn't offer. While I give the subwoofer credit for my large space, the bar itself is what disappointed the most. The surround effects muted a lot of sounds out of movies and muffled out voices. Turning off surround made the sound very directional and "tinny". Even for the price, I was constantly disappointed, returned the unit as a result.
Decent sound; poor power management
December 13, 2014
The sound on this speaker bar is indeed better than that which comes out of my flat screen with rear-facing speakers. The subwoofer enriches the bass, though there is still some flatness in the upper register that makes the sound seem mildly muffled. There are two design flaws in this speaker bar that relate to its power:1) There is no separate "on" switch to be had on the bar itself. You must turn on and off the speaker bar through the remote control.2) The bar powers itself off after a certain period of inactivity which is not given in the documentation and I have yet to determine empirically. Because it takes 5-10 seconds to power up, the audio from the first parts of a program can be missed. Thus, dealing with the speaker bar becomes a series of minor exercises in frustration.UPDATE: I eventually got so frustrated with the power issues that I stopped using this bar entirely.
OK sound, but very cheap logic design.

The sound is alright ... better than the built-in TV speakers, but its mechanism is poorly designed. This system can only be controlled via a SMALL remote control. Lose a button, battery, or remote itself ... and the system is 100% DEAD.What is not said in the sales pitch, is that it will shut itself OFF after a few minutes of no input sound, even if connected to a live source. Once OFF, its volatile memory of VOLUME, BASS, and TREBLE presets are lost. This means you must discover NO SOUND ... turn it on again, bring volume up from the default whisper, and readjust bass and treble once again! Wear and tear on the remote is VERY HIGH; and the death of this system.I would NEVER recommend this to anyone.
Remote causes interference with TV. Not especially happpy with sound quality.
April 11, 2014
Unfortunately the remote control for this unit causes interference with my Sceptre TV and is easier to send back than the TV. Whenever I hold down the volume or bass buttons it causes the TV channel to change to 1. Philips says there is no fix for this other than - as one technician recommended - being sure to cover up the TV remote sensor any time you wish to change the volume. Yeah, right!I'm also not especially pleased with the sound quality. I can't put my finger on what it is but it sounds like the whole thing leans on the high side and you don't really hear the mids so much. There are bass/treble adjustments that I have tried to tweak but overall I don't think it sounds very different from my TV's built-in speakers other than the addition of a sub.

Seems ok, but didn't work for my setup.

Not sure how to rate this product. It seems like a decent-quality cable but I'm not getting any input from the TV to the converter. I need to try another cable to see if the problem is this cable or the TV, or what?
too thick
August 8, 2017
it is too thick and big. I am connecting it to my sound bar and it just comes right out. if i hold it in, everything works, but once i let go it slides right out. I have a samsung surround sound
Great build quality but the ends don't fit firmly in most devices.
April 24, 2017
I have purchased other similarly priced cables and have had very good experiences. I purchased 4 of these cables for a new project and when I opened these cables, I was impressed with how sturdy and well made they were. However after trying to install these, it became painfully obvious that the ends are not suitable for many devices. I had 6 different types of devices that I connected to and none of them had any problem with the thickness of the cable causing an issue with turns. But, the ends only clicked in to 1 device firmly and on 2 devices they need help to stay in place.

April 6, 2017
Fits perfectly into my Samsung one multi HDMI and audio control unit but no click fit into sound bar? Just went ahead and wired via HDMI cause optical audio didn't function properly... Could be me & I don't setup entertainment equip for a living BUT you know when you get a good fit / secure connection & when you don't. Just my thoughts, maybe another brand. Maybe don't buy samsung.
Good for about a month.

Bought this to connect my computer to this headphone amp: SMSL SD793-II PCM1793 DIR9001 DAC Digital Audio Decoder Amplifier, BlackConnectors do not push all the way in for either of my devices. They hang out a bit, and any bump will dislodge them. Despite this, the cable worked fine for about a month without issues. However, now my headphones are making an occasional popping noise (every minute or two), and the amp makes an audible click at the same time. I tried another (shorter) optical cable I had lying around and it solved the issue. The spare also actually connects all the way.

October 30, 2015
It works ok, but I ordered 4 of these cables. Only one of those four came as pictured from the site. The other 3 cables did say amazonbasic on them, but were clearly different optical cables, they looked different, they were less thick and generally felt less sturdy than the one cable I actually got that was the same as what I ordered.Seeing that I ordered 4 of these, and 75% of that order came in as "not-what-I-ordered-or-expected", I would say this is kind of lame.Functionality wise, they probably work (haven't gotten to hook them up).

Much Better Options for the Price Point
March 29, 2017
Don't buy, not worth the headache. The unit came with a dead remote battery and since there is no controls on the devise itself, I had to replace it. After replacing the battery, the unit turned on for a moment, delivered tin-sounding subpar sound. I turned it off, stepped out of the house, and when I returned and try to turn the unit on, it wouldn't work. I tried replacing the battery on the remote, different power cables, and multiple outlets. The unit stopped working! It was the same day I received it.Even for the minute it did work, it sounded terrible. The unit itself feels flimsy and the overall design is not great.I recommend another soundbar for the price: https://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B00TKPAW9A/ref=dp_olp_all_mbc?ie=UTF8&condition=all
POOR shelf live: Less than 2 years!
November 23, 2016
They don't make things how they use too...I purchased this less than two years ago and now the Bluetooth WILL NOT connect to any of my devices. I have a refurbished THX wired system that lasted for many years and is still going, but I am afraid this just doesn't do it. Real unfortunate since this was 50% more when I bought it.Also echoing the low output other rating indicated, looking to go back to wired systems now.
Distorted sound
December 9, 2014
I should have read the reviews first. We got it all set up and put on a DVD waiting for great sound. The sound was not good, especially when the studio audience laughed (or was it just a laugh reel?) it sounded terribly distorted. The rest of it wasn't great and we do have a system in the other room which sounds great to compare it to. I would try a different brand and read the reviews carefully. I am going to buy a different one, and I suggest you do the same.
only sounded slightly better than the TV speakers but still garbled speech
July 14, 2014
Poorly built, only sounded slightly better than the TV speakers but still garbled speech, music programing sound horrible, way overpriced for the quality. I ended up plugging in my portable stereo speaker (Logitec S715i, $65). The S715i sounds great for both music and speech, plus you can take it with you for your mp3 music. The bass quality of the logitec is more realistic too.If this was the only thing on the market I would not buy it and recommend living with the TV speakers. IE if they gave it to you it's too expensive!I'm a weekend musician, sound technician, who also loves quality Hi Fi audio on a budget. I have a good ear, perfect pitch, but not a music snob. like AC/DC as much as Mozart. lol
It worked great for about a week
June 3, 2014
Out of the box this speaker sounded amazing. About two weeks in we began to notice that it was starting to distort whenever there were high mid range music swells...like on any epic movie. Now, six weeks later it's just irritating. I don't know if one of tweeters blew or what... but it sounds like garbage any time there is a movie sound track. I shelled out $120... wasted.
I had such high hopes...
May 17, 2013
I got such a great deal on this speaker...and for good reason. Within a week the sound intermittently worked. Sometimes the remote works, sometimes it doesn't. I was really disappointed. And it was a present for my boyfriend. Now I look like I can buy good electronics. Boo.

The ends are big & hard to fit in, broke the little black tab off my tv optical port trying to fit it in but it works once its in.

The optical won't plug into any inputs. I push it in but it doesn't fully plug in. My other optical fits great and plays audio but this one won't fit so I cant play through it. Extremely frustrating knowing I can't trust Amazon's approved items.
