If you already have this camera, there's a lens that is less expensive than the one Canon makes and is a really cool lens. It's a 1.8 aperature lens. It's fixed at 50mm. I learned how to use 35mm SLR first, so it was an easy transition to digital.Exposure (f-stop/aperture) ISO, focus, shutter speed, and white balance are all able to be controlled manually on manual mode. At 18 megapixels, it shoots very pretty stills, and even with the included lens I can achieve a soft background.I bought this camera specifically to shoot video, and it does make a sharp and pretty image. That having been said, there are some drawbacks as this is primarily a still camera. It can only write files as large as 4gb before automatically stopping recording. I haven't found any way to make it continue without manually restarting. This is only a minor irritation and easily enough corrected. I use it as the main camera for the close-up when I video my dad's church services (www.godtel.org, any of the recent videos will have HD footage shot by this camera). Since I know when I'm going to be cutting to another angle, I just reset this one while it won't be up and problem solved.I soon hope to get better lenses to go with it, but as far as I can tell, this is the best bang for your buck for a starter DSLR with full manual controls. BUY BUY BUY 👍February 23, 2015 You're getting a great camera have had it for 2 weeks now. Amazing shots and once you get some practice in upgrade the lens and you'll be blown away. I'm pretty sure the lens will fit the t5i also so when you upgrade you'll have those lenses but don't quote me on that I'm still new to this. I'm happy I have a new hobby and can now take great picture on my family trips. All in all yes buy this over a Nikon the sensor is more advanced and can pick up light better from what my friend that's a pro photographer has told me. | | | | |

This is because of some BS trade laws or something. However, I bought it to shoot video, and planned to use an external mic since the internal mic on any DSLR is not sufficient. I was horrified when I discovered there is NO POSSIBLE WAY TO USE AN EXTERNAL MIC. That thing that looks like a mic jack is actually for a remote control. I would think that is a key feature that I should have known before purchasing but I guess not. So for anyone who wants to shoot video, go with the Nikon D3200, D3300, or D5200. This camera also does not auto focus in the video mode. love the camera but...October 6, 2016 got my camera and literally as soon as i opened it i realized it wouldn't read my SD card, so i bought a different one and it still wouldn't work. everything else works fine except for the fact i can actually take pictures :,)adding on to this, i spoke with a representative and im now returning the camera and buying another. Auto-focus is horrible and the colors are washed out. It feels cheaply made and apparently was cheaply made. Skip this model, you'll regret it if you don't! One StarOctober 22, 2016 Product didn't arrive complete. No battery. No charger. Arrived 3 days after the guaranteed delivery date. Rather than return it, wait on the refund, then re-order the product, I bought the missing items on my own. It is not like it was submersed in waterJune 9, 2016 First vacation with this camera and it died completely! And Canon will not stand behind it and repair it under warranty. Basically, we were caught outside in damp conditions (not rain, etc.) and the lens fogged over, then the camera completely quit working. It was quite obvious that there was a defect in the seals of the camera. The Canon repairshop (Newport News, VA) says that we got it wet (wrong) and they want to charge us more to fix it than I can buy a new one for. I have seen people with these same cameras taking pictures outside in the rain with no issues. It is not like it was submersed in water, it was not even out in the rain. The camera was defective and they want to blame the customer! If this is how Canon does business, don't deal with them!!
