Perfect Pant
July 3, 2016
The Columbia Saturday Trail Pant is the best fit for comfort! They stretch in every direction, are lightweight, repel water and the short length is actually short! (I have a 28" inseam.) What else could I want? They are BY FAR, the most comfortable hiking pant I have tried. I am 5'2" and have 36" hips and a 27" waist. The pant fits low on the waist, which I find to be the most comfortable. On a recent trip to Scotland, they kept me warm and dry, perfect for summer hiking. On some walks, the rain was blowing sideways or we were walking in a cloud. I never felt any of it through these pants. The snaps are good quality and the zipper is smooth. I have not tried putting anything in the pockets so I cannot comment on that. I will purchase another pair.
SAVED MY LIFE
May 4, 2016
I go hiking every day... Today was my second day wearing these lovely pants and the day that will solidify my love and appreciation for these pants.

This morning I encountered a rattlesnake nesting ground. While attempting to turn and make a mad dash for my life, I make eye contact with a tan rock like shape to my left.

By the time I got out of the area, I went to take a snapchat of my encounter. During, I felt a sharp pain in my leg like I had gotten scratched. I look down and pull up my pants to see a small scratch and red mark. I got freakin bit by a rattlesnake!

After seeking medical attention and being assisted by a park ranger... we can all attribute the lack of actual puncture to the pants I had on today.

Thank you so much Columbia! I'll be buying more very soon!

These pants are SO comfortable. Went camping in them when it was super muddy and rainy. As soon as the mud dried on the pants, it wiped right off! It was fantastic! Everyone wanted to know how I was staying so clean and comfortable.
incredible pants!
April 28, 2015
I love, love, love these pants!
I usually don't wear such sporty styles but needed something for my vacation where I was going to do A LOT of hiking.

When these came, I was extremely happy to see no gaping around my waist. My measurements are 26/38, and I always have to deal with either waist band too lose or hips too tight. The pant fits almost perfectly over my curves! I tried 4p and 6p and could use both. 6p looked more relaxed in the hips while 4p had zero gap in the waist. There is a gusset in crotch so no seam in the way. I noticed that the gusset looked more natural with pants less stretched over hips. It folded and created some bulk with smaller size. That made me choose 6p.

I took these pants and two pairs of capris (same brand, same style as the pants) with me on vacation and found myself never wanting to take the pants off. OMG, they are SO comfortable! They got very dirty in the canyons and I hand washed them in a hotel sink - yes, I wanted to wear them that much!

The fabric is very soft and stretchy. The side pockets are sewn to the main fabric and therefore don't bunch up. I wish they did the same with the knee pocket. The zippered knee pocket is very useful for little things that you don't want to lose and don't want to bother you. I kept my hotel room key there. There are two backside pockets as well.
I wore silk long underwear under the pants in mid 30s temp and was not cold. I wore the pants alone in 70s and was not hot - they actually created that breeze feeling around my legs, so I didn't even want to wear my capri (and didn't bother to convert these either). Oh, and the convertible function is so discreet - you would never notice. That adds to the stylish casual look - pants don't look sporty. Did I mention the awesome flattering fit? Also, the fabric is very thin but not cheap thin. It's great! And it gets softer after washing. Oh, I forgot to tell you - stains come right off!

Can't say I like the picture here. It does show the true fit through legs but I feel like the rise is not as low as shown. Also, the picture has somewhat masculine feel. I didn't notice that in person. The fit is incredible and very feminine and flattering. The pant is very skillfully tailored actually.
I fell in love with these pants and ordered another pair as soon as I returned (in different color).
Don't mess with the zip-off version! Get these instead!
March 18, 2015
I tried on close to a dozen pairs of pants searching for the ideal convertible pair for an upcoming hike of the Camino de Santiago. For a while, my front-runner was another version of these exact pants (same brand, same everything) that have zip-off legs. With that pant I ran into the same problem as many other reviewers- the fit and fabric were flawless, but the zippers had ZERO give and squished my thighs when in motion. I am 5'8", 128 pounds, with a thigh circumference of about 17-18" when measured two to three inches above the knee (where the zippers were). "Gosh," I thought. "I wish they made a version of that pant without the zippers." Well, lo and behold, I found these pants. They roll up and snap into place to make capris instead of shorts, but I am willing to live without a shorts option given my expected hiking conditions. I wore these pants on a ten-mile hike right out of the box and they fit great and moved with me. Looking forward to taking these on my hike.

Columbia has great clothing products
July 29, 2017
I bought these and a pair of shorts....love both. They are true to size (a rarity...I'm tiny and seems most companies like to make larger sizes with smaller numbers...makes things annoying for someone who truly is a size 2). These pants and the shorts are a durable quick drying material and are comfy to wear. They do not give like stretchy material but are still great for an active person. Make sure you follow the sizing guide when you order. I went to Columbia's website to make sure I had the size correct.
Review for fit
February 6, 2016
This review is purely for fit, I haven't worn them hiking yet. I am 5'8" 150 lbs and I normally wear a size 6 pant. I read the reviews and ordered the 8L. They fit perfectly. An extra layer fits underneath the pants and the length comes just above the floor.
Great for Hiking
December 27, 2015
The Cascades Explorer Pant is durable, comfortable and looks good. They're thin, but they handled sticking to ice (and falling on it a couple of times) no problem. I used these as an outer layer on a hiking trip and the pockets were very helpful. They're deep enough to fit my Nexus 5x and the cargo pockets came in handy a few times. I'll be definitely using these more often!
Great buy, versatile, fit well.
December 13, 2015
I love these trousers for camping. Lightweight, wash well, dry very quickly. They are a thin fabric, but that's why they are so lightweight. In cold weather, I've added another layer underneath (leggings or long underwear), and they're great. The fabric cuts the wind, but not hot in warm fall weather. I haven't worn them in summer heat yet. Only complaint is the self-belt that runs through the waistband can get a bit twisted, but so far not an issue to twist it back around. I've worn them about fifty times, but they still look new after repeated washings.
Fits perfect!!!
September 17, 2015
I'm a 5.2 tall and 116 lbs, I orderedsize 4 short and they fit perfect, very comfy. Recomended!!

Versitile, lightweight pants-to-capris!
August 30, 2017
These lightweight, stretchy pants were great for hiking on a cool morning that turned warm. I was hesitant, having received Colombia pants and shorts as gifts before, and having the waist be very tight for the size. But these fit well. The side-leg pocket is the only one with a zipper, and it is very accessable. The larger rear pockets only have a small bit of Velcro to secure it, and I felt nervous putting anything in there, for fear it would fall out the unsealed portion or the Velcro open entirely. If my phone had a "grippier" case I would've felt better putting it there, as it fit well in the pocket. The buttons to hold up the pantlegs into capris were so discrete, I almost couldn't find them! The are concealed and small. I needed 2 hands to access the button and secure it. I was very happy with this purchase, and may buy more colors. Fabric and style don't look to "technical" and can go from trail to town.
Better than I thought
August 3, 2017
I recently got to use these pants on a trek up Mt. Fuji, during a heavy down pour. Unfortunately I did not prepare the rain gear typically used by seasoned hikers, so I got somewhat drenched. I have to say that we had to spend the night in a cabin and that within the 5 hrs that we slept they were almost completely dry.
They are very light weight and at times felt a bit clingy, but overall pleased with their performance. I am embarrassed to say that I fell on my butt a couple of times on the way down due to wet conditions, and no scuff marks were left.
For future, will get a size smaller since they do have some stretch to them, and were too large in the waist.
A little short in the waist
April 12, 2017
I'm tall 5'10" and the waist to crotch could be longer. It pinches a bit. The overall length is great.
Way too small size 6 is really a size 2!
April 6, 2017
PROs: Received these pants quickly. They are good quality. Seams are all solid and the snaps are strong. Fabric is thin and stretchy.

CONs: I ordered these in a 6 short. Normally I wear a size 6 in Express or American Eagle jeans. I'm 5'1" and weigh 125 lbs. Based on Columbia's own size chart I should be a small 4/6. The pants I received, labeled size 6, were at least 2 sizes too small. With the pants on, the snaps we're a good 2 inches apart. There is no way these pants are a true size 6. My daughter who wears a size 4 said they were tight on her. sadly, I'm returning them.
Have 2 pairs - Love the shorter inseam and stretchy fabric, sadly they pill and don't hold thier shape.
July 11, 2016
My review is similar to many of the others here.
I'm 5'2" and 105lbs. I feel like I have a bigger butt/hips than most girls my size as I am really not comfortable in a zero or 2P. For those that don't know - Petite sizes run big....a size 4P is equal to a 2 regular (I get ankle pants in a 2 regular and they look like regular pants on me). Some Columbia pants are Petite sized and some are just shorter inseam - I think these are petite, because I bought a 4 and a 2 and the 2 fit, but more snug than I like my hiking pants so I kept the 4. I did find they tend to stretch out a bit after a few hours and this leaves the waistband of my undies showing by the end of the day - though a 2 starts out to snug.. :(. As for the length, they are acceptable. My inseam is 28" and these are a tad long but work since my hiking boots give me a bit of height. I am just grateful for an shorter inseam - I swear pants are getting longer each year. The waste is a bit big on me, but there is enough material that I may buy some snaps and find a way to take in the waste a bit (I think my waist is about 25-26") - even when holding them up I can tell they are a bit of a low rise and the cut is not for an hourglass shape. I'm a solid hourglass and like I said, by the end of the day my undies are hanging out. Not something I'd wear around a lot of people. They do pill as others have mentioned, but the material is quite stretchy which is wonderful in hiking pants. I never feel bound in these. The pockets are fine depending on your use. Since the fabric is so stretchy the pockets tend to sag with heavy items - my phone fits in the front pocket but then my undies are hanging out again so I can only use the pockets for things like a tissue or a receipt.

I have lots of suggestions for improvements but I do have 2 pair of these. They are not my favorite pants, but I am so grateful for the shorter inseam. I have only a few pairs with the shorter inseam and I am so grateful that in recent years mfg's have noticed that not all women can dunk a basketball! I have a pair of north face pants that used to be my favorites but with out my boots on they are a good 3 inches too long. I love the shorter inseam, stretchy material and smooth fabric (although it does pill).

One reviewer asked about pants for a long plane rides, I've slept in these before. I find the stretchy fabric quite comfy although I do wish they'd hold their shape and not stretch to a larger size by the end of the day.

good for long hikes and backpacking
March 17, 2017
they fit as expected, i'm 5' 8.5" tall and ordered the long option which worked out with hiking boots. i've done a few 6+ hr hikes and they were easy to move in, dried super fast and stayed cleaner than other materials. they did start to fray after the first hike (it was 7hrs and a lot of climbing). it's not that noticeable. went backpacking for 10 days and only brought 2 pairs of pants, these stayed clean and were easy to wash and dried super fast
As described.
July 18, 2016
These fit as expected. They don't have much of a shape/curve to them if you have hips, however there is a belt included for cinching up the waist to keep them from sliding down. I would say the length is similar to jeans length in average cuts. The fabric is lightweight and dries quickly, but is not see through (I ordered the black). These are built for function rather than fashion, but they worked well for that purpose. I have also used them layered over leggings for warmth and had no problem with fit. Additionally, I have worn and washed them at least a half a dozen times now, and the color and construction has held up. I have also not had any issue with the plastic belt buckle as some customers other have mentioned.
Tight waist, go full size up
January 7, 2016
Bought the 12 large (Long). I am usually a 12 in pants, but due to reviews stating tight knees and my height of 5'10", I figured the long size would give more room (Generally tall/long are a bit bigger all over in my experience). Waist fit right at natural naval snugger than I would like while pant legs were quite large. I'd call the bottoms appeared to flaredye the longness bunching a bit at bottom, swooshing like track pants when I walk due to hitting each other. Ordered the 14 regular length to compare sizes, this pair fit well and I will keep.

July 24, 2015
I have had several pairs of Columbia pants before and order the size I normally wear (size 8). These arrived today and I have to return them because they are very tight in the thighs.
Correction: Small = short
July 23, 2015
Correction is needed in the description on Amazon! Small is actually short, which is what I hoped so I'm pleased. By the way, I'm 5'3 and the short is perfect length for me.

So if the product size has #/small, know that small is actually short. Happy shopping!

Material pills in a short time
September 6, 2017
These pants fit great, are lightweight and very comfy. BUT, they only look nice for about 5 wears. Then the material gets all balled up and it looks old and tired. That is fine if you only wear them hiking and for working outside. Don't expect them to stay as nice as they are when you get them for very long.
Great versatile pants but...
August 29, 2017
In general, I really like these pants. Sizing is my only serious issue, minor issue is they wrinkle easily. The sizing has been a frustration for me I order my true size and either they fit great or are too tight. I finally began ordering two sizes and returning one if necessary. These tan ones only were available in the larger size so I got them and they are too loose. Saved in the winter box for wearing with leggings underneath. All considered, still one of my favorite pants!
Disapppointed in quality for the price.
August 16, 2017
These are name brand pants with I would think would hold up better than these did. Purchased these for camping, hiking, kayaking trip. I have wore them twice and the crotch seams are coming out. They fit good so it's not an issue of too tight Poor quality of sewing. Paid too much to have to resew the seams. Won't purchase again.
This is not a good choice for hiking
February 21, 2017
Pretty good pant, very comfortable. doesn't wrinkle much, doesn't take up much space in a suitcase, and looks good, all of which makes it a good choice for traveling. But this material snags pretty easily, so I wouldn't call it a trail pant. They should call it a travel pant instead.
Tiny front pockets.
January 22, 2016
My husband has some Columbia pants with the same material that he loves and I was hoping to get something similar for myself. Unfortunately, the women's version doesn't seem to be made as well. The front pockets on these are teeny tiny.

Very comfortable to wear but not durable
April 30, 2017
It's very comfortable for traveling pants. Thin material is good for warmer days. The belt came with it looks cheap. I pulled it off and wore without if fine. The only problem for me is the fabric quality itself. I bought it in Nov. 2016. After couple trips, it's now showing lint balls around the inseam joint area. That is a really a shame because I liked it so much.
Material Is Incredible, But Fit Isn't Great
April 27, 2017
I recently purchased these to wear on a weekend getaway where I would be doing a lot of hiking. I wanted Columbia as their products always seem to have decent quality and this was one of the cheapest pairs. I went with a size 12, I wear 11/12 in jeans and medium 8/10 in pajama and exercise pants. The size is a little small, but still wearable, but definitely go with the larger size if trying to decide between two. The fit isn't very good though. I read several reviews about these being high waisted which was my primary reason for maybe going with something else, but I decided to try it anyway. They are VERY high waisted. There's pretty much two options with this: pull it up to where it fits rear/crotch and have it sitting above your belly button or put it comfortably around your middle and have the crotch hanging very low and letting your thighs rub together. I'm definitely not a fan of either. The back pockets do have velcro which is nice, but they are very small so good luck fitting anything in it.

The good things about these pants: the material is awesome! It was stretchy and I had no issues with bending around the knees. It is very cool and I imagine it will do great in the heat. My weekend was spent in the pouring rain though. I didn't have high hopes as the material seemed so thin, but it was incredible. It rained the whole weekend, some serious downpours (it was my first weekend off in about 9 months so I was not spending it inside) and the rain did not come through my pants. While my shirt was soaked all the way through, my legs were still dry. I will definitely be looking into this material for all future outdoor pants. I also like the belt and the front and side pockets were nice and roomy.
Casual, quick-dry
December 25, 2015
These pants fit a little tightly on me, though certainly still wearable, and I probably was just too optimistic in choosing size. They don't seem to have any "give," so I'd be inclined to err on the side of big rather than small. They seem to hold some wrinkles, but maybe that's part of the charm, at least when traveling casual :)

Pros -- the material is thin and seems likely to dry quickly when traveling to a humid area, and the pants seem to be built well. I like the fit and adjustability of the belt, especially with the slim buckle.

Cons -- the material is thin enough to not be suitable for cooler weather, a bit rougher/noisier than I had expected, and not as comfortable as I'd hoped. The color is okay-ish, though kind of a sickly-pale green.
No give or stretch for hiking or climbing
September 2, 2015
These pants were fine but I have a short torso so they seemed to go above my belly button. They fit relatively well but did not have any stretch or give so I decided that would not be good hiking pants for me.

June 14, 2015
These pants were nearly perfect, but had one fatal flaw--the knee area is too narrow. Standing/walking is okay, but sitting is a bit uncomfortable. I'm not overweight (5'7" and 120 lbs), so this really surprised me. Other than that, I LOVE the material (very lightweight, great for summer) and pockets (side, cargo and rear). I'm going to have to return these, and hope Columbia will someday make this pant with slightly wider legs.

August 14, 2017
Review from my daughter: Within the first wear - the seams started coming apart in the pockets and waist band. Within one wear -- the fabric stretched so much they looked very baggy and I needed a belt to keep them up. The size 4 short fit great at the beginning (and I wouldn't want something smaller to start) but they looked like a size 6 or 8 by the end of one day.

They feel great when you first put them on, but after about 24 hours, they're baggy, and coming apart. I wouldn't recommend others get them again.

Lightweight, cool, comfortable--except for the waistband. Seriously, Columbia: trail pants made with lots of stretch for hiking also need a bit of stretch in the waistband, otherwise they bind under a pack.

I bought several pairs of these a couple of years ago and loved them. Now they are cut so low that I can't stand it. It feels like if I bend over they will slide off my hips. Really disappointing.
Disappointed with the fit
November 7, 2016
I wasn't keen on the color when I bought these, but wanted to give it a try. I'm not even a size 12 in pants but these were WAY too snug around the waist, resulting in muffin top, unfortunately. And because they were too small, the fabric almost became very thin in the thigh/bum area - which looked terrible with this color. I expected better quality out of Columbia, honestly.
You might get a true-to-fit size; you might not. . .
September 15, 2016
I tried on a pair of these at REI and they fit fine, but they didn't have the color I wanted, so I ordered them on here. I like Columbia products, but one thing I'm finding is that their sizing is quite inconsistent (on most products, not just pants). The size 8 at REI fit just fine, but these were too small, especially in the crotch. Stupid me, I got so busy with school (I'm a teacher, and I routinely work 10-12 hour days) that I forgot all about them and now it's too late to return. GRRRRRR. . . What a waste of money.

Run WAY small.
August 30, 2017
Columbia sizing is an exercise in frustration. VERY disappointed. I wear a size 10/12 in most every brand and usually in Columbia but these in a 12 were so snug on my bum you could see my flesh dimpling! Terrible LOL. Returned. I recommend if you order to order one size up. I am not bothering because I'm just annoyed with the entire thing, but I do sincerely believe the next size up may have fit better.
Buyer Beware!
April 19, 2017
Buyer Beware! This "Tactel Nylon" does not wear like Nylon. I am very disappointed in this fabric! I wore this pair of pants 2 times and the area between the legs began to wear and pill (like polyester might). I have other/similar Columbia "Nylon" pants that I have worn more than 100 times and they have not pilled or worn like this fabric. "Tactel Nylon" feels like a very misleading term. It does not equal the quality of previous Columbia NYLON fabric!
These pants do not fit!
September 13, 2016
These pants do not fit! I read many of the reviews that recommended ordering up a size but I ordered my regular size 12 anyway and they were absolutely huge. Especially in the thighs and rear. I returned them and the return went very quickly and smoothly. I ordered a size 10 and although they were smaller they still were too large in the thighs and rear but fit my waist. I washed them thinking they might shrink because I had no time to return them and took them to Peru with me thinking they would be good for visiting Machu Picchu. I could not wear them they fit so poorly. I kept checking to make sure they weren't men's pants because they absolutely don't fit my female body. The seams puckered badly from washing and they wrinkle easily. I wish I had just returned them before washing them because now I'm stuck with pants I cannot wear in public. Very disappointed.
more comfortable belt. Also
January 22, 2016
The first pair I ordered was a bit baggy so I tried again with one size down, but that was too tight. The pants have a built in belt that when cinched closed has the buckle part up above the top of the pant where it would dig into my stomach if I sat down. The belt is not removable, so it can not be replaced with a softer, more comfortable belt. Also, fresh out of the box, the pants were full of static and would just cling to my legs. I don't know if that would go away after washing since I returned the item.
I really wanted to like these pants
January 19, 2016
I really wanted to like these pants. Normally I'm a size two, but when that arrived I couldn't get them over my thighs. I tired the four and those made it over the thighs but there was no way I was getting them closed. Now I've just gotten the six and got them on and buttoned but they were way to thought around the waist! Theses pants have absolutely no give, I expect that from a weather proof pant. But this is like wearing computer paper. I'll be returning the size six but this time I'm not ordering an eight.

September 16, 2017
I bought these for my trip in September. Columbia is supposed to be a good brand name. I wore them three times and discovered on the third the zipper has split apart. I was not rough with them either. Extremely dissapointed and feel cheated out of my hard saved money. They're worthless now and since I bought them so far ahead I can't return or exchange. So much for paying for quality. If I could give a zero rating I would.

August 1, 2017
Pants run smaller than size indicated on label, and they are definitely not "Tall" in length. And after washing and drying them, I now have capris to wear. The sizing is very far off on these pants. They were extremely tight, even after I ordered a size larger than I normally wear. Also, the fabric is ridiculously thin. They show every panty line and every flaw you may have. I'm not sure why Columbia misses the mark so poorly on women's clothing.
Disappointed
May 30, 2016
Pants are a very small size 8, and have already started showing signs of wear and pilling in the inner thighs after only 3-4 wears. I am usually a size 6 and their size 8 is tight on my hips. I am very disappointed and will not be buying other Columbia pants.

Material too thin. Not comfortable at all. Fit as expected though a bit short. Returned them.
Short is actually not short.
July 28, 2015
Alright, I thought these pants would be great because they are so cheap. They fit truly to the size, no stretching at all. I ordered short and I got what seemed like a long. Not sure how the other ladies got it to work but I'm 5'4 and when I put these pants on They covered my feet as well. There's nothing to roll up or button too. They need to fix their sizing bc a short should not be a long. Unless these are made for tall giants. Which I am not. Loved the fabric though.
