Works great with older DVI-D monitor
September 23, 2017
Good quality cable, does exactly what it should, which is connect a DVI monitor to your DVI slot in your video card. This works perfectly with my oldest monitor, a BenQ that has only DVi-D and VGA plugs in back. If your monitor has a HDMI plug, for watching TV movies you may get a better quality picture with that rather than DVI, which would be better for gaming (PC type displays).I originally bought this longer cable because I thought I'd move the position of the monitor further away. As a rule of thumb, you should buy the shortest cable you need, since the longer the cable, the worse the lower the monitor resolution the monitor is capable of.This is a great cable for the price.
It gave me better picture quality than when connected through standard HDMI cable
June 18, 2017
This worked perfectly for my computer's LG W2453v 1080p monitor through a GTX 960 4GB video card. It gave me better picture quality than when connected through standard HDMI cable, due to a bug in the video driver, which previously handled my monitor as an HDTV rather than a PC monitor. This limited my color range and showed some color banding on my screen. As soon as I changed the cable out to this new DVI cable, the screen issues were gone. :)The cable feels durable. Basically your typical DVI cable with thick insulation tubing.
Works exactly as it should!

I ordered this cable last year but am only now reviewing it because I am using it right now. I ordered this cable to connect my R9 380 Nitro to my Acer R240HY bidx 23.8-Inch IPS HDMI DVI VGA (1920 x 1080) Widescreen Display which I only acquired recently also. Before today, I was using an old Samsung monitor with a VGA connection. Anyway, back to the review. The packaging came frustration free as advertised. It is very thick and my monitor recognized it instantly. No problems here whatsoever. I am currently using a resolution of 1920x1080 and it works perfectly. The quality of this cable makes me want to order their HDMI one and see how it performs as well.I am not adding pictures because the pictures in the product description are 100% accurate.
Great product at 1/4 the price of big electronic chain!
July 1, 2016
I didn't have a DVI cable so I had to head to my local electronics store and pick one up. As usual, I am reminded why BB is losing market share and losing money to Amazon. This cable was $26! Amazon had it for $6! Quit ripping off the world, electronics stores! Guess which cable is going back?Anyway, this is a great cable from Amazon that does its job perfectly. Quality build. One more tip, always opt for the 5 or 6 foot cable, instead of the 3 foot. There is never enough cord to work on your computer without unhooking it with the 3 footer. Great price !
and just as sturdy as you will find on any good cable
June 20, 2016
As others have noted, this is a DVI-D (dual link) cable which supports higher resolutions that a standard single link DVI cable. These cables are well made, and just as sturdy as you will find on any good cable. The shielding is high quality, the connectors are snug and it does not stick out more than it has to. The cord will wrap, bend, twist easily as well, which is something often overlooked as most cables with thick shielding are too stiff to manipulate.Do not waste your money going out to the chain stores and spending a ton of money on big name brand cables that have more money in their packaging than their product (looking at you monster products). I have used the AmazonBasics brand for so many things. These cables, HDMI cables, indoor antennae (comparable to the mohu leaf), and surge protectors as well as anything else Ive seen the Amazon brand on. They will work just as good if not better, and cost a lot less. Sure, there are cable manufacturers that can get you the same cable, cheaper, but you will be hard pressed to find one that is cheaper that also has a good return policy, and that will get it to you with free 2 day shipping. The packaging on these are what they should be with a cable. A small, simple, cardboard box that the cable fits in perfectly. Not some hard to open, thick, plastic, clamshell case covered in graphics that cost more than the actual cable and are a pain to open.

AmazonBasics HDMI to DVI Adapter Cable - 6 Feet (1.8 Meters)I was looking for a cord for Raspberry pi 2 to plug into an older monitor that did not have an HDMI port. I was not looking to watch movies on the monitor just mainly do some programming work. I came across this product which has a HDMI to a DVI connector. I bought the 6 foot version of this product. The cable feels thick and the end connectors feel solid. The cable connected to the raspberry pi was able to deliver 1080i output to the monitor. The price of this cable vs going to Best Buy was easily 1/3 of the price. The cable does what it's supposed to and I am satisfied with my purchase. I am giving the product five stars as the price was very good and the cable feels well built.

Nice solid connection and NO MORE GHOSTING!! Yay!
October 3, 2015
Using for computer with dual monitors. Had a short, box-type adapter that resulted in a lot of ghosting - unbearable with text. This cable cleaned that right up and plugs in nice and solid. We needed a longer cord and were nervous about going 9', but it works well! Have speaker wires, second monitor, power cords, and wireless mouse/keyboard receiver close to it and we get no interference. GREAT!CAUTION: Be careful when buying HDMI cables. We use AmazonBasics HDMI cables for the TV and multiple computers and like their plugs. We have had a cheap cable ruin the inside prongs to one of our TV ports as it bent them when plugging it in. Very expensive to fix - luckily our TV has 3 ports so we're good. We have never had this problem with an AmazonBasics HDMI cable whether for computer or TV.
HDMI adapter for monitor
September 7, 2015
Just received this cable and almost immediately hooked it up. I connected the one end into the marked HDMI port on the back of my tower (XPS 8500) and the other end into the DVI port on the monitor. NO picture. So I had to reconnect the DVI connection and try to figure out what the problem was. I couldn't find an answer except one suggestion was to reboot the computer. I shut it down completely with the DVI connected and before restarting I connected the new adapter. Luckily I got a message on the screen referring to the video connection. I turned the tower so I could fully see the back and sure enough there was an HDMI connection not marked but apparently linked to the video card. Viola!! That did the trick and the picture is better with the adapter. So to all who are technically challenged like I am and you think the adapter didn't work, you may need to do what I did. I had no idea there were two HDMI connections on the back of the tower.
Works great!
December 6, 2014
It works! I purchased a new monitor and wanted a duel monitor set-up. My computer didn't have the another DVI connector. So my old monitor (HP 2009m) uses the original DVI connector. While my new monitor (AOC e2050Swd 20-Inch Class Screen LED-Lit Monitor) uses the HDMI port with the DVI connector in the back of the monitor.

Works Well But the Cable is Thicker and Stiffer Than I Expected
February 13, 2017
The cable looks well made and it works flawlessly. Be aware that it is made with a really thick cable and has large diameter ferrites at each end. The ferrites would not fit through the cable management slot on my computer desk and the cable was not very flexible. I was able to route the cable to make it work fine though. The large diameter of the cable might actually be a sign that it's good quality. Just be aware of it ahead of time.
Solid Build and transfers video great.
August 24, 2016
This cable is used for a second monitor output from my gaming desktop. The connectors itself are very sturdy and look high-quality. However, the cable is rather thick and non-flexible. This can be frustrating, as the 3 foot cable effectively loses a few inches of length unless you're hooking something up right in a straight line. I had no issues with the video delivery from my desktop to my monitor.AmazonBasics strikes again, and delivers a cheap, quality, albeit inflexible product.

Amazon hits another one out of the Park!
January 6, 2016
I purchased 3 of these cords (one at each tv in the house). They work exactly how they are supposed to. This connects my computer to my television. The picture is perfection. These cords are a high quality, well made product just like Amazons other similar products. The price is fantastic, I know this because I paid less for 3 of these to replace one that I purchased at a large box store the month before that quit working on me and the company wouldn't refund. I now have 3, saved money, AND I know that Amazon always backs up their product! Thanks again Amazon!

June 10, 2015
It arrived as promised when promised and works as advertised. I can't honestly say I love it because It's a pity that I needed it at all to connect my 6 year-old laptop and my cable box to a recently purchased LED monitor from Dell. Why didn't I notice that the monitor didn't have an HDMI interface? Something to do with it being the middle of the second decade of the 21st century, I think. The thing to keep in mind is that DVI does not include sound so the fact that one end of this cable is HDMI does not mean that your DVI-only device will be able to make HDMI noise. But the picture from both my cable box and my computer looks great up to and including 1920 x 1080p HD, as advertised.
Reliable

Cheap basic cable that does the job. I've been using the product for several weeks and the connection and cable have been rock solid. Price is right on the mark.
Great Value for the Raspberry Pi
October 4, 2012
This "value" product from Amazon flawlessly paired a Raspberry Pi HDMI connection to a 1920 x 1080 24" AOC monitor's DVI input, and allows up to three meters of range between devices. This means tinker with your Pi on the couch, see what's going on while supine. I also connected a Bluray player to the same PC monitor, and again I got the 1080p resolution I expected without issue. For those who are new to the video-connection world there should be no issues with a DVI/HDMI cable. If there are then the manufacturer has executed poorly. The reason for the simplicity in a DVI/HDMI connection is that both standards are so similar, and literally it's just a slight rewiring of the connections to convert the transmission. While RCA to digital and vice versa require an analog-to-digital or digital-to-analog conversion, a DVI/HDMI converter simply changes the shape and size of the connection and redirects the wires. Here again Amazon has done a great job sourcing and delivering a quality, branded product to the marketplace.Ships free with Prime and I couldn't be more pleased.
Quality at a reasonable price
December 11, 2010
There's some debate about the quality of HDMI cables; whether it matters if you buy a cheap cable or expensive one, as "it's all just 0's and 1's man!" From what little I've read on the matter, even though it is all digital, there can be errors in the transmission of data from one device to another through digital cables. This happens all the time and there's an acceptable amount of this that can occur before there's a breakdown and you see degradation of the image on your TV. One can reason that the quality of construction of your cable(shielding, wires, etc) will affect the amount of errors that occur. With this knowledge you can justify paying large amounts of cash for high quality cables if you must. The reality is, it won't make a huge difference for general uses. The AmazonBasics HDMI to DVI Adapter Cable is exactly all it claims to be. A basic quality cable. I'm enjoying it's quality at this very moment, in fact. After the fact of having the proper cable for the proper application(there are differing qualities and standards of HDMI cable), there's not much more you can expect, other than it'd work. Do your research and buy the RIGHT cable. What amazon doesn't make a huge deal about is that their cables are an amazing deal. After using this cable, I'm very confident I'll never buy my cables in a retail store again unless there's some sort of emergency. Seriously eff you Best Buy and to a much lesser extent Radio Shack with your less flashy looking products but infinitely more helpful personnel!

Nice cable but with some problems
November 8, 2016
Bought this to use on a monitor that doesn't have a HDMI port. The digital output from the graphics card is much better in all aspects than that of the VGA cable. However, when using this cable many videos pixelate as though the cable cannot feed the video stream fast enough to the monitor. The video will seem to "catch up", but the problem recurs just a few minutes later. This phenomenon does not happen with a VGA cable.

Great cord but make sure it will fit
December 26, 2014
This is a fine cord at a great price but I only give it 3 stars because of the Plastic protector piece on the HDMI side. The thing is built very sturdy, maybe too sturdy. The plastic sticks out about an 1/8 of an inch on all sides. That may not sound like much but if you have a tight space where the HDMI plugs in it may keep it from fitting. I ordered it to hook my daughter's Kano up to an older monitor and it connects, but barely. It comes detached every time I move the case or monitor.
Green Static
May 9, 2012
I have an older rear projection hdtv @1080i, with DIV and component inputs. So I decided to go with a low cost HDMI to DVI cable. At almost 10 feet long for 13 bucks, I ordered one up. Shipping was fast, only 4 days on super saver. The cable looked and feels good, though very lite weight compared to a THX brand DVI to DVI cable that I bought for $100 5 years ago. Hooked it up to my sony Blu-Ray and the picture had green static, as if there was no red color, but my tv recognized a 1080i signal. Unhooked and checked both ends, for shmashed pins, all looked good. Hooked back up, same green picture with static. Wiggeling the cables on ether end did nothing that I could tell. Unhooked the DVI end and blew on it, hooked it up, Sucsess! the picture was clear, and crisp!.... for about a minute, then green static. Blew on the DVI end again, and same result. One of the pins on the DVI end was not getting a good connection. It was the single wide pin that made a poor connection. By bending that wide pin very slightly, solved my green static issue. Iv had been watching both DVD and Blu-Ray disks for a month with no image defects or interuptions. If you are having issues with your AmazonBasics DVI to "anything" cable or the like brands, the DVI end my be to blame. A slight tweeking of a pin may help.

Just a second flashing black then back to normal.I have tested with other monitors and cables and I can definitely source the problem to this adapter.

I unfortunately received a faulty cable.
December 1, 2015
The product is perfect; it is what it is supposed to be. Nice length, solid build quality, and everything else that a cable needs to be. But for me, I guess I just got unlucky because my second monitor would just go black randomly. It's been doing it ever since I started using the cable; that is, from the very beginning. So, after finally guessing that it's not my laptop's graphics card nor my monitor, I could only assume it was the cable. Lo and behold after switching cables I have not experienced a random black screen as of yet. Not every cable is perfect and sometimes they just don't work right. But this was a waste of my money as a college student that could've went to food or something; I've no one to blame for that, though. It is also somewhat annoying and frustrating to have your monitor go out at the most random of times while typing a paper or doing something rather important. Either way, great product, great price. I just got shafted with a faulty cable.

Fails after a year or two, in my experience
July 28, 2015
I bought one of the these in Nov 2011 and another in Mar 2013. The first one worked for a little more than a year. The second one worked for a little more than 2 years and started to fail in the past month or so. When this cable starts to fail, the monitor goes black and you have to randomly move the cable around until the picture comes back and then you have to make sure you don't touch the cable, or else the monitor will go black again and you have to re-wiggle the cable again until the monitor comes back on.The problem gets worse over time. I suspect there is a short somewhere inside the cable. What might cause the short? My theory: In the HDMI end, I have to pull on the cable to remove it from my laptop's HDMI port because I have other stuff plugged in to the ports next to the HDMI port. There isn't a good place to pull on the cable shell (to avoid stressing the cable), so I have to pull on the cable itself. My guess is that the problem I'm experiencing is caused by squeezing and pulling the cable at the HDMI end too many times. I've given up on this cable and just bought a different cable (ASIN #B004S4R5CK) that has a larger/sturdier shell that I can grab to remove the cable instead of pulling on the cable directly.
Not working for my application
May 29, 2015
I bought this cable to connect an HDMI port a Windows 7 PC to a monitor with an available DVI input. I could see the BIOS output and the 'loading Windows' splash screen, but when Windows came up, I could get no output. I had to connect to the computer's VGA port to see anything; when I ran the Control Panel display app and the Intel graphics tools, they didn't know what the monitor was and what resolution it supported. What I think is going on is that the cable is not passing EDID information to the computer. That makes this cable not a fit for what I need, despite the text saying it was reversible. I had another cable that I was able to repurpose and that works fine for the same connection.
worked sometimes but had some issues with 4k.
April 8, 2015
I use this to connect my laptop dock to my monitor, which happens to be a 4k Seiki. Maybe it's my dock's output, or maybe it's the cable (I've tried two now), but the display works most of the time but cuts out upon occasion. Also, I see some visual artifacts (almost snow-like) on part of the display, especially noticeable where it should be black. When I use a straight HDMI<->HDMI cable plugged directly into the laptop (instead of the dock) it works flawlessly. I'd rather not have to plug in the HDMI cable as it makes undocking more of a pain, but I can't have the display cutting out at random points since it takes about 10s for it to come back which is quite frustrating and causes the OS to become confused about what displays are available. Maybe I wouldn't have problems with a lower resolution, but for my specific purpose this cable didn't work out.

Bent female end - Cable is not usable
September 19, 2017
The cable arrived with the metal bent out of shape. It's not even usable because the shape is so off that it can't be inserted into the monitor nor the computer. I expected better from AmazonBasics. I've never had a problem with them before. I guess quality control is going down hill.

Poor quality didn't hold up!
July 28, 2017
I ordered this and only used it probably 3-4 times before it failed completely. The last time I successfully used it, one of the bolts that screw into the video card to secure it, broke off in the video card and had to be removed. The next time I tried to use it, the side that the bolt had broken on had began coming unglued from the plastic housing, exposing some internal wires. I decided to attempt to use it again and couldn't get a video signal. It was then that I saw both sides had become unglued and the connector was only holding on to the plug housing by the delicate internal wires, 2 of which I could see had become dislodged from their solder joints making this useless. Now I have to find a replacement but I doubt I will use another Amazon basics cord after this epic fail! It's caused me alot of problems now and I am losing work time because of it. They should send me a new one for free!

Be very careful with this cable. UNLESS I happened to get a faulty one, this does NOT work. I bought a brand new HP Pavilion desktop computer that has a VGA and HDMI video output only. My HD monitor, has VGA and DVI inputs. I read the reviews and questions answered on this item and it seemed to be exactly what I needed. I connected my previously working monitor to the brand new computer and the monitor flashes, then is dead. Permanently. I tried another known good monitor..."no signal detected on any port". As I said, maybe I got a bad cable. Be careful! Fortunately, it can and will be returned. Caveat emptor.
