Awesome impact great battery life
August 26, 2017
Very impressed with power of this little impact. Powers lugs off my 05 tundra with ease. Torqued at 100 ft lbs. This will not remove lugs from a 3/4 ton truck still a million uses and my air compressor rarely runs now
Awesome
July 23, 2017
Waited so long to purchase to work on my car and have been kicking myself for not getting it sooner. Takes lugs off so easily and such a time saver
they got a little warm so I was glad I used impact hardened sockets
June 5, 2017
This wrench gets the job done, installed a sway bar on my tundra took those rusted 3 inch bolts out of the trailer hitch with no problem, using tekton hardened adapters, they got a little warm so I was glad I used impact hardened sockets, I snapped a chrome 3/8ths extention loosening one of the bolts, not good enough for these heavy bolts. The battery lasted through the job and didn't even need re charging after I was impressed. Great product! Also the seller delivered on time Perfect delivery!
Great tool, long lasting batteries.

I'm currently working on putting a 5.0L Mustang engine in a Miata, and with the limited space I have, this makes up for the lack of a large air compressor. Disassembly time on the engine was cut in half, and saved my knuckles from getting busted up. The batteries last a very long time as well. Its not as powerful as an air impact would be, but it will still get the lug nuts off of my truck if I give it a few seconds. I went with this one over the other, larger Dewalt impact wrench so I could fit it in smaller spaces, and am glad I did.
Will not disappoint

Classic DeWalt quality in a small package. As a DIY home mechanic, this tool saves me time and elbow grease when perusing the junk yard or servicing my vehicles. Small size allows for use in tight areas--perfect for those of us who do not have a hydraulic lift handy!

It's made in china but seems to has good quality.
May 14, 2016
only used a few times so far but I'm really impressed with how it works so far and feel or a heavy quality tool. I took off car tires on the number one setting, very low setting for this gun pounded a little then right off. getting to know how to set air presser takes a little getting used to as it changes from left to right. Directions are in the little book they sent along although very small print and not much other info. Can't weight to try it out on something large and tough as I believe this will work very well. It's made in china but seems to has good quality. Add on. I replaced the front A Arms on my 2006 chev last week and the impact wrench Shure made live a lot easer then without it. Impact worked supper well and still looking for something bigger to try it out on. Wish I had it a long time a go ( girls get your man one for birthday or x mas he will like it a lot )
awesome product

Good quality and ingersoll rand always had a name for itself, and used their impact guns a lot at work, now I got me the 231c for daily work, it's awesome, great buy can't beat the price
Well worth the investment.

WOW! After several knuckle busting hours trying to get the blades off my riding mower, using wrenches, cheater bars, penetrating oil, my old power wrench, and every cuss word in my extensive potty mouth vocabulary, I decided to bite the bullet and buy this. I figured the price was cheaper and less of a hassle than taking my mower in to get it worked on. WELL... I put it on the nut.. hit the trigger and BAM! Done! The first nut came off so quickly I was sure that I'd stripped it, but low and behold it was off in an instant. Went to the second bolt and same thing... milliseconds. I wish I'd saved myself the hours of frustration and torture and went this route first. Really heavy duty, well made tool. It probably won't get a lot of use, but I'll be grateful to have it on hand when I need it.
Awesome!!!

I love this thing and can't believe I didn't buy one of these earlier in my car career. Anyway, I use it to change tires and it breaks lug nuts like a hot knife through butter. No more annoying battery powered impact wrenches running out of juice. And, with the adjustable torque, I was able to set the forward gear to stop around 80 ft-lbs so I could hand torque to 90. This thing is a work of art and feels great in the hand. I am using it with a small, Makitka 2hp, 2.6 gallon, 3.3 CFM@ 90PSI compressor and it works just fine for me. As with all impact tools, use ear protection.
fantastic impact wrench
January 10, 2014
This is my first impact wrench, and I absolutely love it. Using it with a Senco PC1131 4.3 gallon air compressor, which had a SCFM rating of 4.4 (this tool needs 4.2 and max out at 90 psi)The handling is great, there is not much vibration to be felt while the tool is hammering on the bolts. I also like the fact that both Forward and Reverse power is fully adjustable, with a feathering trigger, which is really important when I don't want bolts came off flying. When taking out lug nuts, the compressor kicks in every 5-6 bolts, and it's really got amazing continuous torque.I made a custom rubber grip for it using bicycle inner tubes, which further reduced vibration, and added a lot of grip to the handlebar.Highly recommended. I don't think you can find any other tool that have this much true torque and adjustable power for a lower price.
Just what I was looking for !!

I have a harbor freight 2hp 8gal 125psi compressor and I first bought the $100 earthquake impact wrench from HF, which was suppose to be one of their best guns. I used it to remove my wheel lugs and it failed to take any of the nuts off and I returned it thinking my compressor was to weak to push enough air. I then got this gun from here after reading the reviews. I received the impact wrench and I went to the garage to try it out. My HF compressor is rated at 4.5 cfm @90psi and this gun only uses 4.2 cfm at 90psi. When I first used it on my lug nuts, it took them off without any trouble, and I even tried it on some suspension bolts and it had no problem taking them off. It even took off my flywheel bolts without any problems. I love this gun and I finally can use my compressor, if you need a impact wrench Igersoll rand is one of the best brands and amazon has the best price on this model wrench then any other place I found. Good luck.Don't forget to oil and grease this gun. It requires IRT10 oil and IRT105 grease and a grease gun. I bought the IR 105 LBK1 kit.

I'm a DIY'r maintains 4 used vehicles and who tackles most any auto repair. I use my impact wrench frequently (for a DIY'r). My last impact wrench was an very inexpensive Sanborn that I used for over 20 years. The design is similar to the "PowRyte 1/2in. Rocking Dog Air Impact Wrench" sold on Amazon. I had to replace it due to loss of power to the point where it could not remove my truck lug nuts that were not rusted on.The IR 231 is a huge step up in power and adjustability. However, it feels much heavier and has a larger body. I'm deducting one star because I think it'll be harder to handle while laying under a vehicle and working in tight spaces. I may get a smaller, lighter, impact as well for those situations.
cheap simple and durable.
May 17, 2015
cheap simple and durable. works as it should. the power is comparable to much more expensive guns. it is pretty heavy. its also loud but not the loudest in the shop. but the biggest thing is that the exhaust points right at your work area so brake dust, dirt, rust, tiny metal shavings all get blown back at you. it is a heavy and simple Ingersoll rand so it will most likely last as long as you. my next gun will be a little lighter and have a handle exhaust.
Good first gun
July 14, 2013
This was my first impact wrench purchase. Out of the box, it's heavy and well made. Instructions are the most basic you've ever seen, so look around online or ask a friend if you don't know what you're doing. There are different power torque settings for forward and reverse, and it's a little ambiguous as to what setting you're actually on sometimes. The first time I used it, I put it on the highest reverse setting to take the lugs of the wheels of my truck. I think I had all four tires off in less than 60 seconds. Going back on, I wasn't sure how powerful the torque was going forward, so I used the 3 and tightened by hand afterwards. I was able to tighten about 1/2 a turn, so I'll probably turn it up to 4 next time and see how it goes.IR makes good impact sockets too, so pick up a set when you're buying this gun. I put quick connects on my hoses, impact wrench, socket wrench, air inflation nozzles and it makes changing out tools a snap. I'm very pleased with this purchase and would buy again.Final note - neighbors get very jealous when they hear the sound of an impact wrench going off on a Saturday morning. I saw a couple looking out the windows while I was rotating tires :D
The retainer ring broke on the 1st use
February 24, 2013
There is a little expansion ring that holds sockets on, but mine grabbed and snagged with the first socket i put on there. I had to hammer off the socket and then rip off the little ring with pliers. after that, all is well, except sockets just fall off this thing. I will probably have this for a long time, and always be without a snap ring.Other than that, this little guy surprised me many times, huge rusted frame bolts, no problem. 32mm axle nut, no problem, brake caliper and suspension bolts with 140,000 miles of rust on them, no problem. I just leave it on level 5 and use it mostly for removing. I try to install most things by hand so as not to over tighten.
Good tool to have around
December 9, 2011
There are a whole lot of impact wrenches on the market and it's difficult to choose. This one has the power and the price combination that I was looking for. As soon as it came in, I had a need for it... A Broken U-bolt on a hay van, a sheared roll pin on a tetter, and a flat tire on the tractor. I have the power setting in the middle and didn't have a problem with any of the jobs. Made my work a lot easier and faster. I didn't give this review 5 stars only because I just got the tool and haven't had it long enough. If in ten years I am still as happy with it, then I'll give it the fifth star.
My First Impact Wrench
May 17, 2011
I bought this air impact wrench for use at home for changing tires on cars, trucks, and lawn equipment. It is the first impact wrench I've owned, so I decided to buy a model that IR has made for over 20 years. IR makes rebuild kits for it, but I doubt I'll ever need one.It appears to be a good, reliable gun. My first impression was that it was heavy, which I subsequently found made wrenching easier on me. It is made in China, but everything fits together well, and so far it has easily handled every wrenching job presented to it. While some 231 variants exhaust through the handle, this model exhausts through the front of the wrench. The documentation regarding the use, care and maintenance of the wrench that comes in the box is skimpy, but additional info is available online. Overall, I'm very satisfied with its quality, performace, and ease of use.

Small but want more power.
April 14, 2016
I ike it for its compactness, Price and the fact you get two batteries . It has a decent amount of power for what it is. Like others I bought it mainly to remove Lugnuts. My 2007 jeeps lugs are torqued to 100 foot-pounds. This imapct could not even break one with a full charge. Comparing it to my harbor freight 18 V the power is comparable. Max Breaking torque around 80 foot-pounds. Tightening around 50 foot-pounds for both impacts. I decided to exchange it for the 899B1 which is more powerful.

... wrench based on the reviews stating this model was good enough to use for tire rotations
December 16, 2014
I purchased this impact wrench based on the reviews stating this model was good enough to use for tire rotations. I disagree. I had a difficult time using this impact to remove the lugs from my Jeep. The majority of the lugs came off but it required hard pressure against the wheel(100lbs) for the lugs to even start loosening. It definitely required more effort than I thought and took 5-10 seconds for each lug to start moving. I was also unable to remove(80 lbs)4 out of 6 my body mount bolts from my Jeep to install my ACE rock sliders and resorted to regular hand tools.

Are operating manuals something of the past?
December 1, 2016
Product just arrived. Looks beefy enough, however I don't know how it works (as in how do you put it in reverse, or lube it?) The enclosed "instruction" manual is a very thick safety manual written in several dozen languages. Pretty certain I can download an instruction manual from the I-R website, but hopefully tool companies aren't going the way of Apple and saving some coin by having supporting literature only available electronically.

October 27, 2015
I've never owned a impact wrench, so it was a major disappointment to have some basic product information about the product. The brochure was of no value. It was 3 pages of hazards for each language and in 15 different languages. In essence it was almost 50 pages of worthless information.
Super-Duty Air Impact Wrench
April 14, 2014
In general this is a very nice good quality tool. I think that the clockwise/counter clockwise power setting devise is a little confusing since when I change the setting in one direction, the setting for the other direction also changes. This may be my problem and not that of the tool. However the thing that is most frustrating is trying to pull the sockets off when finished using the tool. I usually have to get another tool in order to prey the socket off. The "ring" on the end of the 1/2" drive holds the socket on with a death grip. They need to put a slightly smaller ring on the end of the drive or use some other way to keep the socket from easily falling off.
it works but not as good as reviews led me to believe

This impact spins and can tighten nuts but I found it failed to loosen my lug nuts on a 94 Camry. I had to get the car off jackstands to lower the car and break the nuts by hand.Cool little impact that should last forever just disappointed in the torque output.

I use this gun in maybe one car a day at work and lube it often but still the cheap plastic trigger sticks when release and continues to rotate unless I disconnect from air line. Would buy one with metal trigger. Is this still covered under warranty?
not as good as expected
November 15, 2015
I compared this with its $40-ish copycat (Central Pneumatic) from Harbor Freight and a Bosticth BTMT72391 from my local Menards store for about $70 side by side in my garage yesterday. This was the weakest of the three for the reverse torque action. The reverse torque action was the main reason I started looking for an impact wrench to work on cars in my garage. Plus, I don't like the forward shooting exhaust design of this impact wrench. Since the Bostitch impact wrench worked the best and it came with a 3 year warrantee compared to 1 year for this one, it's obvious that I have no reason to keep this one.

I purchased this impact for the sole purpose of bolting water main fittings together. 90 -100 ft lbs is what I need to achieve proper torque specs. This impact is supposed to reach 150 max. I doubt if it gets to 65 ft lbs. I like the tool just dissapointed in the performance.
