Black & Decker has yet to disappoint!
April 17, 2016
I bought this to replace an older B&D trimmer that had been handed down to me and finally saw its day. The old one worked great and this one is even BETTER.It arrived early on the day it was promised, so kudos to the seller's shipping team.Attach the handle and guard and that's it, you're ready to go.I gave it a quick test and was impressed even with the trigger. The wheel is a nice touch, my old machine didn't have one and definitely makes it a little easier to do the edging.*** I purchased this item at a discounted price in return for an honest and unbiased review***

I had an older version of this and needed to replace it, this was perfect and I haven't had any problems with it at all. I rethread the line myself, as that's cheaper than buying the spools, and I can not be happier with how easy that is. I had many problems with my old one and debated buying another black and decker--but this did not disappoint!
Edited: Garbage
July 12, 2015
This thing has power! My last electric trimmer gave out after less than a year which was annoying and disappointing. I decided to try trusted B&D and as always, they did not disappoint.Edited: I've had this less than 2 months and used less than 3 times and the plastic piece that hold the spool n in place literally melted :/
Black & Decker GH900 Outperforms Other String Trimmers
May 11, 2015
This Black & Decker GH900 corded string trimmer outperforms other trimmers. How do I know that? I purchased four other competitors and compared them. My review and story is below:Last summer, I purchased a B&D GH900 and it performed flawlessly. The automatic line feed system worked brilliantly. Also, this model has only one line, which I prefer. The dual feed line trimmers are difficult to load and unnecessary because of the GH900's high motor RPM speed. Anyway, after using it few months last season, the GH900 developed a problem. The motor would labor and not get up to high speed, so I decided to replace it with a competing brand. That was a mistake.Over the past month this spring I purchased three more corded string trimmers from different manufacturers and they all failed miserably. Most notably was the automatic feed system. None of them worked properly. Even another model from Black & Decker.I read another review where the person gave it a low rating because it only has one trimmer line instead of dual trimmer lines. I give this B&D GH900 five stars because it only has one. The GH900 has incredibly motor RPM rate and dual feed is not necessary. Besides, when you have a jam in the trimmer head out in the field, you can quickly disassemble and re-feed the single line quickly even while wearing gloves. With a dual feed, you have to return to your garage and perform the complicated task of re-stringing it. That's a real pain.In my opinion and from experience, this Black & Decker GH900 auto feed single line trimmer is my choice. It's made of quality materials, has a telescoping shaft for comfortable use by every height user (I'm 6' 5" tall). It's light weight, but most of all the automatic single line feed system works perfectly. I highly recommend purchasing this Black & Decker GH900 string trimmer. I purchased another one and glad that I did.
Trimming is finally easy
May 7, 2015
My old Black and Decker trimmer finally gave out after 6 years. I was very bummed as I had come to know exactly how to use to squeeze in tight place and around plants without whacking the string off or cutting the plants. So, I decided to check out another Black and Decker trimmer that was environmentally friendly and easy to use. After reading some of the reviews, I was afraid this Black & Decker GH900 wouldn't be tall enough for me (I'm 5'11). However, I found the height to be great and I love that you can adjust it to your needs. The other thing I was concerned about was the plant/string issue. However, with the guard, I don't have to worry about chopping up my aloe or other ground plants. It snips right to the edges and cleans up perfectly. I feel the same with the edger (which I have never had a wheel and guard). It's easy to use and I don't have to worry about hitting my pavement. All in all, the Black & Decker GH900 doesn't disappoint at all.
Amazing machine for less than $50!
June 25, 2014
I am 5'2" and am 50+ years old. My husband has a large and heavy gas powered trimmer that he and my sons use but I wanted one that I could use. I decided to buy locally but wanted to do a review here because this is where I started my search. I ended up with this Trimmer for a couple of reasons-reviews, price and accessibility locally. First let me say-LOVE IT! You have to snap 2 pieces on-the 2 black pieces you can see in the photo which takes a mere 2 minutes and you are literally good to go. We have 4 acres and I thought I would just do around the house but this machine is so amazing I couldn't stop! There is that instant gratification you get with a machine like this and well I just kept going. I won't say I have done the whole 4 acres but if I could put enough electric cords together I could absolutely do it all. It is very easy to operate, lightweight enough for me and the shaft can be shortened or lengthened so my sons and husband can use it too. I like it because I just pick it up and go while my son was mixing oil/gas and pulling on the cord to get his going! I was able to get through some areas of the lawn that let's just say were "overlooked" by my boys so they were pretty overgrown-tall and dense and no problem at all. I am using the spool that it comes with and I would say I have used this for a couple of hours each of the last 2 days. Another plus-a good workout for your arms! Even though it is lightweight and easy to use holding a machine you don't normally hold for hours will make your muscles sore! I thought this would be our back-up trimmer but everyone really liked it so I am saying this is going to the front of the line for use around the house and the gas powered for further out on the property. I just wish I had purchased this a long time ago.

September 10, 2016
Quite powerful ... we also have the cordless/battery run B&D trimmer from FOURTEEN years ago (all we did with that was replace the battery) but with our large lot (2.34 acres) the darned thing runs out of steam ... hence the purchase of the electric one so I can really tackle the stuff directly around the house and take the cordless one around the lot perimeter.
great buy, great price
August 5, 2016
great buy. came on time, as expected, and only took about 45 seconds to assemble. Nice and powerful while also light weight. gets the job done and some. I read some reviews about the string just endlessly feeding out so I was skeptical, but I am glad I disregarded those because I have no idea what they are talking about. Maybe they do not know how to properly put string on a weed-whacker.
Worth it as long as you take care of it!
December 2, 2015
Been using this for over a year. It's performed well through two seasons. It's very powerful, and easy to use. I mainly use it for grass but I've taken down weeds like they didn't stand a chance. I have not experienced any issues with this weed trimmer so far. I don't anticipate any problems with it anytime soon either. These work great and they're very cheap. Definitely worth the price. The last one I had (similar B&D) died most likely due to someone using it and not cleaning out the heat vents. If you buy one of these, take care of it. A little maintenance goes a long way. I used the last one for 5 years. The last season I had it, it did well every time I used it. I let someone else use it a few times, it melted. The whole casing was burning hot and covered in grass that was matted down to it.
Exactly what I needed
May 23, 2015
This is a great price for a great weed whacker. I just got it yesterday, but I've already done my entire front and back yards and they look fantastic! It is very easy to use and not too heavy. The automatic string feeder makes using this item so simple anyone could do it. Also you can twist the handle so that it can edge sidewalks and patios. It's really easy to switch back and forth and it leaves a clean edge all around. Everything looks amazing. Also it has a cord keeper where you can loop the extension cord (not included) so that it doesn't unplug when you're using it. The only drawback at all is that the spool isn't very big and they're not super cheap. I got almost the entire yard done but ran out. I hadn't bought additional spools from Amazon but Lowe's carries them for a comparable price, so they're easy to find. All in all I'm thrilled with this and I highly recommend it to anyone! I love that it is electric and doesn't require gas, too.
I really thought I may not like this electric one as I don't want to be ...
August 15, 2014
Just got this today and used it already! I've owned the Black and Decker lithium battery trimmer/edger...twice! That model died on me as the motor is just not meant to last for more than one season of just regular use (trimming the fenceline and edging the sidewalk of a small yard). I really thought I may not like this electric one as I don't want to be bothered dragging a cord behind me. But honestly, there is just no comparison. For the same price, the electric one is so much more powerful!!! And because of the extra power, it cuts/trims so much better. It's lightweight and the only thing you have to do to use it out of the box is put the shield on. Two seconds later, off you go to tidy up the yard! Fantastic!
Update: Season 4 - All Is Great! I'm ordering another.
September 8, 2012
September 2012 - After reading many of the reviews, I was hesitant to purchase this item. I started out with the battery model for the B&D trimmer and after charging 24 hours it worked for 15 minutes top. I returned the battery model and purchased the electric B&D model. I used it for the first time today and was able to complete an hour's worth of weed-eating and edging work. I was thrilled. I am a 55 year old woman and I find this trimmer easy to handle (except for the cord, but I don't mind that if it lasts more than 15 minutes.), light weight and quite powerful. My yard is 70' x 125' and I was able to complete almost all of the edging in a little over an hour. (I stopped because I needed a break, not because the trimmer lost power.)I also used all of the initial string and had to restring the trimmer with 0.065 string. This is usually my biggest test because I can never get the string on right. I followed all of the intructions and reloaded the string and was able to trim for another hour without fail. I hope and pray this trimmer continues to work. Will keep you all posted. EBApril 2013 - Season II - All is great. Today was our first real spring in Richmond, VA -- 90 degrees -- more like a shift from Winter to Summer instead of Spring. Anyway, I pulled the old B&D Electric Trimmer I purchased last year with my fingers crossed and to my surprise, it worked like a champ. I edged for over an hour --- that's my personal limit --- and all was fine. I must say, it is a lot better than the battery operated model. I changed the string with not problem and I didn't have any string problem until the end. I still have half of the yard to finish tomorrow, so stay tuned. If it gets me pass the more demanding part of the season, I'll give it a 5 Star because the first Spring cut after Winter is the worst. I was anxious but all worked just fine!August 2013 - Great Trimmer! I am going to order another just in case.May 2015 - Spring cleaning and lots of edging....Trimmer worked like a PRO! Trimmed 8750 sq/ft lawn plus flower beds. Worked continuously for 1.5 hours --- when I needed a break. All works well. I'm impressed and I'm ordering a new one today to keep on hand. Five years of heavy use is not bad.

Good trimmer, mine had a defective switch but was able to repair it. If you don't mind dragging a power cord go for it.
June 9, 2017
Works well, mine was slightly defective, and the switch failed very early in it's use. Fortunately it uses the same switch at the trigger as for changing modes via rotation of the trimmer head. I literally have no idea what the other switch does? Maybe it was for limiting string output during the other mode, but I switched the two switches and it has been working fine for 2 seasons. I'm on my second spool of trimmer line so havn't used it too much but any way pretty reliable. Works every time you plug it in if you can stand dragging out the cord every time...
Precision cutting and powerful. The handle needs a more durable locking mechanism, keeps slipping.
May 12, 2017
Have used it twice to trim the grass and weeds around the house. It cuts very well as intended. Has plenty of power to get through any thick grass with ease. The only down side is the handle. No matter what position I lock the handle in, after several minutes of use it will slip out of the locked position and rotated all the way up. May have to use duck tape to lock it in place. Overall, it cuts with precision and ease.
It's a cinch.
June 26, 2016
After wasting too much time and money on gas trimmers from 3 different manufacturers that were heavy as hell, a PITA to start, and maybe lasted three times before they died ignoble deaths, I gave this electric trimmer a shot. It's light, you pull the trigger, and it whacks like crazy. I had this 6' tall marsh grass growing in the backyard in some dense clumps and this thing took care of it. Even some woody vines were chewed up nicely. Stuff much thicker than a pencil stymied it, but what did you expect? A chain saw?The initial spool of mono that comes with it is pretty skimpy, and the replacement spools weren't cheap. But they do drop in and go, a total cinch. What's your time worth? At least you have the option to rewind spools, but I hardy see myself bothering. The mono is good quality as the replacement spool took out the majority of the marsh grass and there's still about 2/3 of the roll left. Haven't had use for the edger, so I can't comment on that. And yes, dragging around a cord kind of sucks. But considering the price and the performance of the trimmer, I found that a little intelligent planning makes cord management not too dreary. Definitely a 4 star product for what it was designed to do.

Much better than the two string models that are overly complicated to keep the feed mechanism going. I did have to rewind the string it came with, but after that it worked like a charm.
THIS IS TO REPLACE ONE THAT I DESTROYED THROUGH ABUSE ON MY PART
September 17, 2015
GREAT FOR SMALL YARDSbought this as a replacement for one that came with my Black & Decker MTE912 12-Inch Electric 3-in-1 Trimmer/Edger and Mower, it was a perfect fit after 1 modification i had to use the smaller guard from my old trimmer .i used the living daylights out of the old one and i was very pleased with it so i had to replace it. this is the perfect replacement
Great trimmer for a great price
April 7, 2014
I've only used it once so far, but I can honestly say I'm very happy with my choice. It was the first mow of the season so the lawn was a bit scraggly and overgrown, so it was a good test of performance. I removed the edging wheel because I have a separate B&D edger for that purpose and I figured why not reduce some weight. The trimming power is perfect and since I mainly use it along my fence I wouldn't want it to be any stronger because this one easily has enough power to damage the 8 year old wood fence if I'm not careful.I previously owned a Black & Decker 18 volt battery powered GrassHog. That particular trimmer was great, but after 3 years those batteries barely hold a charge and the replacement cost at $40+/each is quite high. I'm hoping I get a longer lifespan out of this corded version.[UPDATE July 1st, 2014]I've been using the trimmer for a few months and I'm happy to report that I'm still very satisfied.[UPDATE April 9th, 2015]Some good and bad news to report... The trimmer seized up on me during the first mow of this season, but thankfully B&D has a 2 year warranty on it. I brought it to my local B&D service center and was told that it does not have any serviceable parts, so they sent me a brand new replacement unit.

Lightweight, easy to use.
September 12, 2016
The only reason it doesn't get five stars is because the plug (from the extension cord into the machine) falls out very easily. Like really easily. So, I duct taped it in. Other than that, this is just a great little weed eater. I was having so much fun that I may have over done it and my arm was so soor the next day! lol. Lightweight, very easy to get up and running. Great instructions.
It does a good job over all
July 25, 2016
Had it a few weeks and used it several times in the yard. It is very light. I bought it because my wife wanted to be able to use it too, and the gas trimmers were too heavy for her. It does a good job over all. It's very easy to restring and has a self-feeding mechanism so you don't have to keep bumping it on the ground when the string is short. That being said, that is also my only real complaint about it. The line seems to run out fairly quickly, probably due to the self-feeding mechanism. Would I buy it again? Yes.
Good trimmer, maybe just not the best.
August 12, 2015
I had been using the small B&D corded lawn-type trimmer. I decided to buy this one 2 years ago. I have truly loved this unit. The problem is that it's not quite as tough as I thought it would be. I agree with a couple of reviews. The very small screw holding the guard on is "iffy" - should redesign to at least have two screws. The lever under the line spool has broken. Now I know that I need to be a bit more careful trimming. I have never edged, I don't have that type of property. I would be concerned whether this trimmer could withstand difficult edging issues. I did not want to purchase a whole new trimmer, so I've ordered a couple of levers, one to repair and a spare. I just think overall that this unit is a good one, but maybe should only be used for trimming grass in a yard that does not require a great deal of line feeding.
The head feeder thing isn't perfect, but after a while it is easy to ...
August 27, 2014
Had this for roughly a year now. I have .25 acre with weeds along my fencing, and already had some long extension cords. I've come to prefer this over gas, having been a skeptic. It's lighter, a little quieter (I still prefer ear protection but noise is bearable without), less messy. The head feeder thing isn't perfect, but after a while it is easy to pop off and fix the line. I've never had any head from any brand feed perfectly so can't complain. Would I pay more for thicker line and more power? Meh, hard to say, for the price this one is fine. It also twists and does a great job edging the driveway, as good or better then the metal blade attachment I had for my old gas ryobi. The heads are relatively inexpensive at walmart, when I'm lazy I just buy a couple rather than spend time re-filling the line.
Strong Unit!
March 19, 2014
It does the job well, especially edging. Very powerful, pretty easy to maneuver. - but if you're not careful you can gouge the lawn while trimming along the flowerbeds - pretty powerful machine.Like most (all?) trimmers, it has issues feeding the line and of course the line gets jammed and you have to take it apart to get it going again, (as w/most trimmers/edgers - a RPITA!).We upgraded from an GreenWorks battery powered unit, (BTW, a POS! - low powered, battery only lasted a year), and definitely don't regret the decision purchasing this guy, it's like driving a 500 hp sports car compared to a Yugo.-A
Good Machine

I would buy it again. Easy to use. The best part, of course, is the automatic line feeder. Good value.

Meh
August 19, 2017
Not a huge fan. I didn't realize this was an electric weed eater, but that wasn't a deal breaker. used it once and it went through an entire spool of string. I didn't know that until the 2nd time I went to use it (of course). It has an auto feeding string, which I much prefer the manual feeders. I also looked forward to the rolling trim feature. It was ok at best. I'll give it another shot when I get some more line, but I'm not real optimistic that I'll love this ever.I recommend getting one with a manual string feeder.. or a traditional gas one. walking around the yard with an extension cable is about as fun as it sounds.
Just OK.
July 21, 2017
I've used several trimmers over the years, this one isn't my favorite, but it gets the job done.-1 star for the auto-feed design. It well let out a bunch of line if the line is wrapping around something, like a pole. When I'm not careful, that long line, when cut, will whip me right in the ankle -- not fun if you're not wearing long pants.-1 star for handle slippage. The handle is adjustable but has the tendency to slip out of place once or twice during each use requiring me to break my stride to fix it.The wheel is a two edged sword -- great for edging, but bad for getting into really tight spaces.
Meh. Spend a little more for something better if you can
July 2, 2017
This is really only suitable for a shorter person with a tiny yard and a lot of patience. It doesn't lock into place, it's always loose and sliding out of place. The wanna-be edger part will do okay once you get a feel for it, but only if you have about 20 reams of line for it (line that fits this is so thin and weak it breaks constantly and is all gone about every 15 feet. There's no heavy duty line in a size of .070 like this weedeater requires.) If I had a bigger budget for this I woulda gotten something more substantial for my little suburban yard... this is way overpriced for its abilities.

June 19, 2017
The edger works fine but the only problem I have with it is that when you secure the electrical cord it is so close to the start lever that it has hit it several time and started the trimmer before I was ready. Once it took a big gash out of my ankle. Now I am a lot more careful when inserting the cord.
If $25/year is acceptable for you...
September 24, 2016
I always take a low percentage of negative reviews as user error or lemons, so went ahead & purchased via Amazon. While worked was acceptable for trimming/edging, line replacement/feeding & ergonomics. Worked for 2 years then simply quit. Works out as $25/year. Intentional depreciation B&D? Acceptable return? Not for me, but maybe my expectations are too high. Written as I sit in lawn chair after troubleshooting as recommended to no avail, so have 1/2 way done yard.

Works OK except problems with the line feeder
March 6, 2017
Usually a good brand. I found that while this edger has the power to tackle most light weight jobs, I've had nothing but problems with the line feeder dispensing the line. A total disappointment in that area.
Not quite what I expected but still a good product
December 12, 2016
There wasn't a protective head on the one I got, like I saw in most of the pictures. Like the one in the picture right here. But the size I got was smaller and cheaper I guess.

November 11, 2016
I have problems getting the extension cord to stay pugged in as Im using it. Ive had issues where the blades become undone and it can be difficult to unwind and replace it back into working order. It does get the job done for the very small area I need to use it with.
light duty but works
September 3, 2015
It works but it's not heavy duty. I have a lot of sharp gravel in my yard and if I angle it a little bit too much the thread breaks off and has to be rethreaded. I haven't tried it for edging yet but I'm not going to expect much. But hey, for $40 I saved myself from needing to hire people to mow my lawn after I let it get out of control. And I'm obviously going to let it get out of control again, so it's cost effective.
Light-Duty Trimmer-Ddger
April 24, 2015
It is a very light-duty trimmer-edger... I have been using it for about 2-years now... It is rather quite inexpensive, but the automatic feed (string) doesn't work well and you'll go through a lot of spools (strings), which are not cheap... If you are a professional gardener, then this trimmer-edger may not be for you. The noise level is OK too, but you may want to use it during normal hours...
Cheap and it works fairly well
July 12, 2013
If you are on a tight budget and your expensive high quality trimmer/edger just died, then this will do as short term replacement. It works, but you will burn through quite a bit of the .065 line trimming and edging even a small yard. Lot's of flimsy plastic parts, but, hey it is inexpensive and it works fairly well. I bought plenty of extra line and boy am I glad I did and I also bought the replacement spool cap and spring, because i can tell I will probably need that soon. I will follow up after a few months of use to let you know if the unit is still doing the job.

You'll spend a small fortune on line
July 30, 2017
This would probably be the perfect edger for me, being a petite woman taking care of a small yard. It's light weight with a lot of power and the wheel provide easy movement for edging. HOWEVER, I used the line it came with before even finishing one side of my very short driveway. I then bought additional line to finish the driveway and I had to refill it THREE times before finishing. I think I spent more time replacing line then I did actually edging. I thought this was a good deal and was saving money by going the electric route but in the end I'll spend a small fortune and a lot of valuable time on the line. Will return and go back to gas.

July 10, 2017
If you buy this, wear long pants when using it and buy Stock in the Line Company! The "Autofeed" does a lot of that! Too much in fact. The line is then cut off by a little blade in the Guard and flies into your shins and cuts them if exposed.

July 1, 2017
I bought this two years ago (thus the warranty does not apply any longer--I should have returned it sooner). Most aspects were great: it's lightweight and did a fine enough job of trimming and edging. BUT the string and the spool--always always a hassle. I found that I had to extend the string each time I went to use this product and sometimes more than once during a session (the area I use it for is approximately 20' x 8'). Often I had to open the cap to perform this function and every time the string would loosen on the spool, so I would have to wind it tight again and sneak the cap back on before it unspooled again. Finally, a piece from the spool housing cracked off. I would have to completely disassemble the spool housing and replace it (the replacement part looked around $40 for a $65 product). Sigh. Not worth the effort and certainly not worth the constant work overall. I gave this two stars because when it worked, it was fine. But in retrospect, not worth those few and far between moments.
Uses trimmer line faster than I could replace the spool
April 23, 2017
I have owned 4 B&D trimmers over the years. They all had a particular life span and I was well satisfied with their performance. This current model gh900 was using up trimmer line faster that I could put it in. With my other models I could trim my property entirely on about half of a spool. This model I went through 2 spools and I was only about a quarter finished. At about $5 a spool this is crazy. I will search for another trimmer.
Great trimmer, while it lasted...
April 10, 2017
I bought this in August 2016, loved it, worked great as a trimmer and really liked the edger feature. Pulled it out in April 2017, first time to use it in the spring season and it died while edging my sidewalks. Seems to be an electrical short or something. Has a two year warrany, but closest authorized repair center is 90 miles away. Still debating whether it is worth repairing, even if under warranty, because the price was so low. I don't think I would buy Black and Decker again.
I ran out of the string in the starter spool before finishing on the first use
September 7, 2016
Main issue is the amount of string it uses. Have to change it at least every mow. I remember growing up and only needed to change the string about once or twice per season. I don't understand how we're going backwards 20 years later. It's not like Black and Decker is making more money on string My last unit was a Black and Decker battery unit that only needed to be changed every month or so. . With this unit, I ran out of the string in the starter spool before finishing on the first use. I had to re-spool to finish the job. Keeps loosing string like crazy.Other than the string, the unit seems fine and has plenty of power to get the job done. The wheel helps with edging. Would give it 5 stars if not for the sting issue.

June 22, 2016
The weed eater I had for 37 years, yep 37 years, finally gave up the ghost two years ago. It was the best and I miss it. I've tried to find one similar but have had no luck and the company no longer exists. I purchased a Toro weed eater which is very good but it's too heavy. I still used it until the line ran out. This year I thought I'd try again. I gave the Toro to my son and bought the Black & Decker ST7700. It's a simple design, it works great, love the automatic line-feed but it is still too heavy for this old lady. Plus, it's too long and not adjustable. (I'm 5'6") I'll probably use it until the line runs out then give it to someone and try to find a different one that doesn't kill my arms when using it.Sure wish I still had my old clunker or could find one like it.
Auto feed never worked right....
May 19, 2016
Light weight easy to use but auto feed string never worked right and does not work at all after couple of uses...I have to take apart and manually feed string then put back together and continue.... It is a pain but thank god my yard is small... Black & Decker is not as good as they once were and I no longer trust this brand name...
Four Stars

This is a great substitute for my older one. FEB 2016Update. March 2017 ...So I was using the older one because I was able to fix the reason why there is no power..So today I wanted to use this one, and for some unknown reason, the Auto Feed is not working...Adjusted my review from 4 stars to 3, and would be more than happy to re-do if I could get an answer from B&D customer service. Right now, I have to manually feed the line.
Not working as intended
March 18, 2014
I chose this rating as I seem to have no other way of communicating with the seller. I had another similar trimmer/edger by this same manufacturer and it lasted 10+yrs before I now had to get this new one. However, it is not working as an edger which I really, really need it to do. My old trimmer/edger had a button I pushed in to turn and change the machine to an edger, this does not seem to have this button and no matter how I try to push down to turn the handle it is just not working. I would like a replacement that works or a better explanation than is in the manual as to how to get this machine to edge. If not/none I need to return it.Thanks

The single line setup uses too much of the spool. There is no consistent spool control. You will spend more money on spools over time.
Outdoor 3 prong extension cords do not work with this!!!
September 21, 2016
Warning: The power connection on this does not allow a 3 prong extension cord to be used. The two prongs to which you are to connect a power cord are set down in a casing. They made the casing for the power plug too small to fit a 3 prong extension cord. I want to be able to use a 100 ft extension cord. The manual suggests at least a 14 gauge cord for that length. I am having trouble finding a 14 gauge (or 12) 2 prong that will fit it. I might have to find some kind of extender piece or just break off some of the plastic casing to make room for a cord. I might revise my review once I actually am able to turn it on. What kind of extension cord is everyone who is rating this highly using???
strong motor while it did last, auto feed is a piece of 💩.

I've had WorxGT battery operated unit before this one. The batteries would no longer hold a charge so I bought this. Being corded, it was much more powerfull than the Worx unit, but used more line in less than one year than in 5 years of useing the Worx. The whole issue with spitting out line is a serious design flaw. I couldn't even complete the edging, let alone the weed waking with a single full spool. Then 11 months after having it the motor has seized up. Going to go with another brand now.
Strings withdraws often
August 15, 2015
Immediately after taking it out of the box and using it the string drew into the spool with their winding of string. I tried at least 10 times to wind it properly and still withdrew back into the spool. When it withdraws I had to stop pull off the spool and rewind the string, this take up to 5 minutes each time. Almost every minute it withdrew into the spool. I sent it back.

Cheap imitation of what B&D USED to be
November 12, 2016
Over the past 12 years, I've owned two Black & Decker corded trimmer's. They last about six years each. After my last one died I thought I could just pick up one similar to my two previous ones. Unfortunately, it's a cheap knock off of what they used to be.I Live in suburbia. Our yards are not that big. After I finished trimming the backyard, the spring feed quit feeding! I try to resurrect it, but no dice. Thank God for Amazon's returns ! Black & Decker USED to make great trimmers. Seems like now it's all about The bottom line and delivering an inferior product. So disappointing.
Not feeding
May 1, 2016
I bought the trimmed trimmer about one month ago. Black and Decker is my company of choice. This is suppose to be a self feeder but it doesn't work. Instead we have to tab it on the grass. Now that too doesn't work. Because we live in south America we forward everything. We also bought extra spools to make sure we had enough stock. Can someone tell us what we're doing wrong . Thanks.
Didn't last a year.
October 14, 2015
I bought this trimmer in late 2013 to replace a B & D string trimmer that had gotten pretty well used and beaten up. Since it was bought late in 2013, it maybe was used once until spring of 2014. Since I have a yard service, I use the trimmer only to clean up a few things that the yard service misses. During one of the uses the string started running and would not stop until the spool was empty. I just put it away and got out my old trimmer. When I finally got around to pulling it apart to see what happened, I saw that the small part that allows the line to advance slowly was gone, making the trimmer unuseable. Very disappointing since I really only used the trimmer about half a dozen times. Didn't see a way to replace the part so, guess I'll have to buy a new trimmer.
Less Than Zero
July 10, 2015
If I could give this pile of junk a rating less than zero, I would. I purchased this, and on the second use it would not work. Being in CA during the draught, the grass is lucky to need cutting once a month. I exceeded my 30-day Amazon return deadline, so I'm stuck with pile of guano. Save yourself some frustration and buy something at your local hardware store so you can return if necessary.
Weed Eater is defective
November 5, 2014
Bought from Amazon Warehouse, thought it just had box damage. Weed eater has loose connection somewhere in motor. Would run for a few minutes, quit, run for a few minutes more. I suspect this was a return that was plugged in, it worked, and put back in the box. In the time it did run, the continuous feed worked correctly. It had a lot more vibration than our previous electric Black and Decker Weed eater. (which lasted ten years) This one was definitely made cheaper than the previous model we owned.
Disappointed isn't the first word that comes to mind when trying to describe this item, but its the least offensive.

Disappointed isn't the first word that comes to mind when trying to describe this item, but its the least offensive. Things started out well enough; it turned on and the string took down some weeds. My experience went quickly downhill when I got to edges/borders. The string did not automatically advance when it broke (too easily), so I was left making lots of noise without any cutting. I suppose you could ask why I was getting so close to the edge, and my answer is that the plastic 'saucer' literally fell of within the first 2 minutes when I bumped it into a flower pot. Yes, it was screwed on tightly and I remain astonished that it happened. I was not swinging it roughly, but gently sweeping from side to side. Seriously, I absolutely DID tighten that one little screw, and really am baffled. Delivered on Monday, first used this morning, return requested this afternoon. Hats off to those users with good ST7700 experiences, because I wasn't one of them.
