This is a great all around lighter for any occasion and the price cannot be beat

Took this camping and it worked everytime. Worked even during a rainy windy day. Flame is hot to start a fire quick.

After receiving two lighters that would not work the retailer sent me a third one of a different design and it works perfect! I would recommend this lighter and retailer to anyone. A+ all the way!

So far it's lit whenever I've tried it for the past couple of months, and handles my main concern of carrying in a day pack without accidentally getting pressed and releasing all the fuel. I've carried it on winter camps down to around 20 F, and it still lit on the first or second try. Never carried it at high altitude, only camped with it in the midwest so far, which is my primary scout camping area. Nice for getting the fire starters lit at camp. I understand the reliability of butane lighters, so I always carry waterproof matches, and a magnesium/flint striker, so I don't rely on butane as my only option, but as long as the butane lighter fires up, it's my first choice to get the fire started quickly.

i got this as a primary lighter sorce my lighter has 2 differant kinds of a back up but after trying it out i know it will work great

This product work like a champ but be prepared to buy your own butane. These ship completely empty due to Federal Regulations. I was a complete idiot at first thinking it was broken. Being the typical man... I read the directions last :)

It floats! It is easy to find in a backpack or if you drop it. The true beauty is the way it works in high winds or not.

Love it - the loop makes it possible to attach to a lanyard, it works very well - I submersed for about 30 seconds in approx a foot of water and sure enough, it worked still! Definitely recommend and will be buying for all my survival kits and family and friends!

My lighters work. I used Zippo Premium Butane Fuel.Great lighter. The torch is pretty strong and will likely work in higher winds. The seal looks good. Big reservoir (although I only use six seconds of fuel per fill). A quality item. The only problem I found was that the plastic on the clasp broke. I replaced it with some electrical tape. On my second lighter the clasp broke off completely (this is the metal clasp). But even without the clasp the lighter is not easy to open in one's pocket.

Lights every time for me. I like the way the center section pulls out of the case so you can check fuel level. I could not fill over 1/3, I don't know if this is the way it is supposed to be, due to the gas/liquid state balance of butane, or if I need a new butane bottle. Anyway, this seems like a quality, waterproof product if properly closed and locked shut. Highly recommended.

Complete junk that is a lighter you will complain about for years. These things keep working. micro flame, sticking caps until they break off.. but keep working.

If it works they work great got one that I need to return to amazon.

Flame is not very adjustable.

Very hot torch flame (single jet only). Lights fairly reliably first click, maybe 70%. Having a window showing fuel level is a very good/important feature. Case and lid feel strong and long lasting. Time will tell. Latch holding top down hopefully will seal out water in case of an involuntary swim. Has not yet been tested.Would be even better if the lid would fold back further. Lighting campfires the lid gets in the way getting close to the tinder, but can be maneuvered. Also, better if had two or three jets (vs only one) because lighting a fire under poor conditions needs as much heat output as possible. Some butane lighters have two or three. The Scorch has two, but case is not as robust (still as substantial as a Zippo.

Works great. The Color is the high visibility emergency orange color, not red. That is a plus in my opinion. Not to sure about eh waterproofing as after I tested the flotation, I opened it up as saw that there was small droplets inside. Now it could of been water around the o-ring being sucked in as the lid opened so I can not be sure. Still only going to trust the waterproofing to shallow depths.The only thing that I do not like is that this lighter does not stand up.

For the price this is the best I have found. I carry mine all the time. There is a plastic latch that keeps the cover closed, along with a small metal clip with a small piece of plastic tubing that is designed to add security to the closure. I purchased enough of these for myself and my sons. The plastic tubing that holds the metal clip securely has fallen off all three. I replaced with some the sheaths some gutted 325 paracord that does the trick. This issue does not compromise the water tight seal as the plastic latch provides a tight close, but under duress this latch allow the lighter top to open. If you are rough like I am and carry this in your pocket, you will want to mod the metal clip. The lighter has never failed to light, even after walking through waste high water.The lanyard hole is thin. If you use a small ring, or just use cordage, you should be fine. I used a larger key ring and the lanyard hole fatigued and failed. I used some gorilla tape and only use some leather as a lanyard. I don't fault the device on this.The lighter mechanism is excellent. The throttle is a little touchy, but once set it is perfect. It lasts quite a while on a tank of butane. I recommend using the muti-filtered fuel in any lighter designed for survival or bushcraft. This also lets you achieve a somewhat higher temperature and is good for higher altitudes.While I have made some comments here that are issues I had, for the price the design is good and I feel this is a reliable device.

Don't know exactly how good this product is, for I gave it to a buddy as a gift.He likes to wade in the water down by the boat dock. It's floatable and that is all that's matter

Was warried with previous reviews, that said it would not work well, but it does!!I think the secret is not tu turn the gas to Hi, because this makes it more difficult for the lighter to start.Nice product with good finish.Down side, the tank is very small, and dificult to reffill.

I read through all of the comments before making this purchase and thought I'd take a chance seeing as the price was right. I'm not a cigarette smoker, so the sole use of this lighter is for utility and the occasional cigar. I keep it in my possibility bag that I carry every day and have used it frequently since receiving it. I have not found any issues with it getting hot under normal use and have only filled the reservoir once, so its capacity meets my expectation. My only issue with the lighter is that the clasp is a bit difficult to open if you have short fingernails. If I was using it several times a day, it would certainly be a hassle-- but for my purposes I can live with it.

Well I was hoping for better-looks good.But not so fast there-I noticed the flame was much weaker than another brand I had worn out. And I use mine for pipes and even an occasional solder touch up-it happens-and this is just Ok for a lighter, not a strong torch type flame. The good news is the action is easy to operate(I have an injured thumb so it is important) and seems reliable to light.Then I tried a dunk test in the sink. I metal detect in freshwater & have dropped my lighter a few times. Failed 1st time-visible water inside but it still lit. I have a few O rings & some silicon grease handy-tried to get a better seal on the hinge/lid and it seemed nice & tight-still failed.So I blew through the front & sure enough I had air coming out the bottom. The hinge seal/gasket was fine-it gets in through the base. I removed the adjustor wheel-found a tiny O ring & made it much better. Not waterproof I saw bubbles escaping on the final test but the working area was dry & it lit right up.So wish Coleman would make a better product here.

The lighter works well. But they don't tell you that it's completely empty when you get it. That would have been good to know up front.

It worked for a week before use in rough conditions broke the filament. Eh.

Overall performs well, as it should. Clear insert displays fluid level and it does float. The wire catch isnt easily one-hand opperable tho, requires thumb nail to release.

bought it less than 1 year ago, OCT 13, maybe thats why it stopped working, should have waited one more day,the electronic ignitor stopped working, i'm ordering another, just be forewarned, you might have to replace it. I like thatit floats, I use it will diving off my dingy, things get wet, the only reason not five star is because it lasted less than 1 year.

It is pretty lightweight, all plastic, filled it up and it worked right off. So it does what it is supposed to!

I was disappointed by the small size, also it doesn't get as hot as other models I've used.

Very hot flame, but the flame is adjustable. Even with a low setting lasts about 10 uses before needing refueling. The lighter works even in strong winds.

Did not last after 3 months

I expected better quality from a Coleman item, but times have changed. The flame adjustment knob leaked from day one. The ignitor died after 8 months.

I've refilled this with good quality butane, but it still takes at least 20-30 clicks to get the thing lit. I love the flame when it works, but it's very frustrating to get it to light in the first place.

not as good as I expected

Well I got this lighter and it doesnt even light. It sparks but no butane comes out. Ive drained it twice and still no flame. I do like the feel of the lighter and seems to be made well. I also like that the top is lockable. Its a same that it didnt light, was pretty impressed with the looks. Not sure if this was made in China. I was able to return it, so no worries. I was going to buy another one but I just ordered a Zippo street chrome lighter atleast zippo is know for quality.

Arrived on time, full of fuel and adequately packed. The metal body and cap appear to be sturdy. The cap hinge has always been a weak point with past lighters and this design seems to be typical. The plastic flame adjust knob arrived broken (it just slipped off the valve when I took the lighter out of the package). Unfortunately the 1-year warranty requires me to mail back the lighter with $6 to get warranty service. Not worth it - postage + 50% higher cost just to receive an unbroken item. I called the customer service line during their business hours and couldn't talk to a person; could only leave a voice mail. I'll use it without the adjust knob and will recall how it arrived broken every time I use it. And I just won't buy Coleman.

Nice while it lasted but the top melted and it didn't survive a dip in the water. It doesn't work anymore. I believe it will only work if the igniter stays dry.

does not come with fluid. housing seems very cheap and not rugged. Would not buy again if had the chance.

Really poor quality. Did not work after multiple tries and refills after opening from package.

Garbage. Not only would it not light after filling but just the slightest pressure on the adjuster knob causes it to leak butane out the bottom. Defective on arrival. Now the seller is taking forever to handle this and there first response was "are you sure you didn't turn it up to high?" Lol

I have to return it due to flame to low, and was return to sender and resendit again, let see what hapend. Will be reverting.RegardsZaham rubio

Bought the same lighter that I had lost and this one would not light after repeated attempts and refueling.

Only lights about 1 time out of 10 tries. Have to go through an exercise of gently bleeding the trigger button while pulling the trigger button toward the clasp on the side. Then the lighter will light 4 times out of 10 tries.

Received the item, filled it with Butane and it will not light. Not worth the time or effort to return since you have to empty it of butane, etc. Pass on this. Usually Coleman is a no-brainer. Not this time.

Unfortunately didn't read other reviews prior to purchasing and then filling the lighter. Purchased the best out of 15 brands of butane at the local cigar store (Colibri Premium 99.999% pure) and it lit twice and wouldn't light anymore. Guess I'm out $13! :(

This lighter is not worth anything. The fuel leaked out of the fill valve within 45 seconds of filling. Nothing of any quality otherwise either in material or design. Negative three star rating actually.

SAVE YOUR MONEY. CHEAP PLASTIC ON THE OUTSIDE. INSIDE BROKE THE FIRST DAY.

I wouldn't bet on it lighting when you need it to. It almost never lights without having to strike it multiple times. I would avoid this lighter.
