Solar Pool Cover - YOU BET!!!!
October 24, 2016
I was a bit skeptical about solar pool covers, but I figured maybe I could get a couple extra weeks out of my pool. BOY - this thing isunbelievable, once received we laid it over the pool and cut it out to fit, was so easy, and it has been getting into the low 50s at night - butsince it gets into the 70s during the day the sun warms the pool right back up to the mid 80s, it is actually wonderful, I have used my poolalmost every day and its the end of October.... I live in San Antonio so I was hoping this would be good enough, so far it has exceeded my wildest expectations........ It really locks in the heat, takes less than a minute to remove it and about a minute to put it back on the pool - it got down to 45 the other night, the pool only went down to 80 - the sun came out and it got up to 78 outside, but the pool got up to 85........ So I felt I should write a review since I was so happy with the product. My pool is about 40 feet long and about 15 feet wide, I bought the 20 x 40 cover.......
Critter deterrent, excellent solar (free energy) heater and cuts down on chemical evaporation. Great price for what it does!
August 6, 2016
Finally a duck deterrent that works! I live by a lake...a lake filled with wild ducks. Ducks like to swim in my pool.Cute right? NOT! The filthy little creatures like to crap everywhere and anywhere they are LIKE IN MY POOL! Grrrrr. I tried motion sensor sprinklers, audio pest load speakers, fake alligators, shiny globes, laser lights....even fire crackers! I even bribed the winged nastys with bowls of whole kernel corn down by the lake to keep them down there but the little creeps just kept coming back and using my pool for a toilet in the middle of the night while I was sleeping. After having to drain, pressure wash, paint and refill my pool for the third time I finally decided to try this, because it would also act as a solar blanket heating source. OMG IT WORKED! The ducks won't come near it and my pool shot up 15 degrees in a couple of days (granted I live in Florida but this was before the summer heat set in). I have since purchased a swimming pool cover reel that I use to roll this up every morning (takes 2 minutes) and unroll it at night (takes 2 minutes). I haven't had a single problem with the ducks since, (or the frogs/bugs/BIG turtles) the pool stays cleaner, chemicals last longer and it really really really heats up the pool if you leave it on during the day. Covering at night keeps the pools heat trapped in (along with the chemicals that would otherwise be evaporating faster) as well. I used to have solar heating panels on my roof for heating the pool and those actually never got the pool above 84. This thing took it to 94 in a few days! I actually only use it at night now (or if the wind picks up and starts blowing crap in my pool during the day) to keep the ducks out and the pool clean. This is hands down the best product I have ever seen for heating the pool and keeping the critters out (also had a frog and HUGE very big turtle problem too - oh the joy of living on a lake with an in-ground pool and no screen room). I highly recommend this if you have a pool pest problem, want to bump your heat up in the cooler months or just want to cut down on chemical evaporation. IT WORKS! Also, I'd recommend eventually getting a cover reel because it's so much nicer to roll it up and unroll it rather than just dragging it up on to the deck but that does work. I did that to begin with. :-)BTW, I still feed (bribe) the ducks so my wife (disabled) can watch them and they might walk up the hill to check things out, but they won't come near the pool now even when the cover is rolled up on the reel (sits at the shallow end of the pool unless we're in it - then I roll it out of the way - it has wheels).
Worked so well I had to stop using it!
October 26, 2015
Works much better than I expected, I live in Miami, FL so the weather is usually warm but in the not-so-warm months I noticed the pool was too cold for my taste and since my backyard gets a lot of wind I found it hard to get in the pool. I read the reviews for this prior to purchasing and since they were good I pulled the trigger and gave it a try.Putting it on and off is not hard with two people but can be challenging for one person. This cover is thicker than I expected which is a good thing as it does not break easily. It was easy to cut to the size of my pool but I did leave some extra to be used with clams that I use to clamp to the edge of my pool as sometimes with the rain the water overflows making it possible for the wind to blow the cover out of the water (never got out completely, just folded partially). The cover did a great job, after about a week the temperature was perfect and a few weeks later it was beginning to seem too warm, so this cover actually worked so well that I eventually had to remove it because it was in the mid to high 80's at one point! Now I have it stored until the colder months come around to once again keep the temperature at a level I can use the pool year-round.
PICKEST MAN IN THE WORLD AND IT WORKS!
May 29, 2015
Ok I am the PICKIEST MAN IN THE WORLD! So yes my review has some weight! I am here to tell you that this Solar sheet is AMAZING!!!!!! So I put mine on the same night that I received it and it was over the pool overnight and then about 7 to 9 hours and it took my pool from 60 degrees to 80 degrees! So here is what you need to know: make sure to put the cover over the pool overnight as it will keep the heat in the pool and keep out the cold air. Also you must run your pool pump during the day when the pool is covered and the sun is the hottest! That will make the ENTIRE POOL WARM! For those of you who are posting that it only heats the first couple of inches that is not true! It is only doing that because you are not running the pump to circulate the water while it is heating. I have a Victorian Style in ground pool 16 by 32 and 24,0000 gallon pool and it heated my pool in about 7-9 hours! My pool is located in an area where the sun it directly above it for about 7-9 hours a day but trust me if you cover your pool with the solar blanket at night and allow it to stay over the pool from 7 am to 4 or 5 pm ( make sure to run your pump at least from 9 am to 4 and the water will be nice and warm! ROCK ON~
Slow to heat but does the job.
May 19, 2015
Wow! This thing really works. It is like an extended roll of bubble wrap, only blue and is an incredible insulator. We live in southern california so we do not need the pool to be piping hot but this thing really does heat up the pool quite well. When we pull it off, we can see steam occasionally! Testing the water after 1-2 days of using this solar blanket, you notice the water on the surface is quite warm to a depth of 6-8". Below that it is still cold. But, with continued use and the occasional swim to mix the cold/hot water together, the pool warms quite nicely. It does take a few days to reach an optimal temperature but this definitely does the trick if you have a non-heated pool. Cutting the solar blanket to size is also pretty easy. It cuts just as easy as regular bubble wrap, though the stuff is much sturdier. It holds up to the occasional stepping on by dogs and people alike and does not pop/deflate easily.
Great cover! Made a believer out of me. In ground pool, 35,000 gal, custom shape
June 7, 2013
For the past 2 years we have purchased the Lilly pad type covers and they did not come close to covering the entire pool, but were worried about the odd shape of our pool and not being able to get a full cover off. This year instead of spending the $20 per Lilly pad (we need about 30 if we wanted to cover the entire pool) we opted for this cover. The cost was appealing of course and we bought an oversize so that we could cut it to size.I laid the cover over the entire pool and let it rest up over the sides. Walked around and pulled as many of the wrinkles out that I could. Then tucked the cover as close to the sides of the pool as I could. Took a pair of scissors and began cutting the cover where the water meets the tile. Tucking and cutting as I went. The first cut was rough. I did the same thing again refining the shape. Let the cover lay on the water for a day or 2 in the sun to let it settle out and did the same thing again. I did this 2 more times taking a little bit off each time. My last cut was 1/2 inch from the edge of the tile and the cover fits great. It works great! Raised the temp in the pool by 5 degrees within days.Only problem is that the shape of the pool prevents any type of reel system. So as much as I hated to do it I found the narrowest point of the cover (side to side) and cut a straight line. Lying on the water you can not tell the cover is cut and even in recent gusty storm the covers never moved. Now in 2 pieces the covers are small enough for my wife to remove by herself. Just fold it up by grabbing and dragging it onto itself a few times and then roll it as you pull it onto the pool deck. We stack them on top of each other and cover them with a white king size sheet to prevent the sun from baking the plastic (sure way to destroy a cover). That's why we had to buy Lilly pads every year!

Very effective solar cover
June 28, 2017
We bought this solar cover for our in-ground cement pool, which has a unique shape - a Lazy L. It was proving difficult to find a solar cover that was cost effective that would fit our pool, so we ordered this cover and then cut it to shape. It was very easy to do - we just layed the solar cover out over the pool, and then went around the whole edge of the pool with a new sharp utility knife. The only negative with the solar cover is that removing it and putting it on is definitely a 2-3 person task as this cover is very heavy duty (which is a positive), so be prepared to have helpers around when ready to swim! As far as being effective at warming up the pool...within 4 days our pool came up 10 degrees at least (could have come up in temp sooner than that, but we were away for the 4 days it was on after buying it). We are very happy with the cover and it seems like it would last us many years with some basic care of it. Now to go and find a cover reel so it would be easier to take on and off.
Very easy to fit and cut to size
March 21, 2017
Got this when it was on sale and paid a fraction of the current price. Very easy to fit and cut to size. So far it's been easy to take on and off (also bought a reel so we can take on and off as necessary). It's held up but will see what happens in 12 months after rain, sun and general use.
works well
April 4, 2016
I just started my second season with this. It appears to be holding up well. when it is off the pool it must be covered well or the sun will deteriorate it (this happens with all pool covers). I purchased (separately) a white cover to protect the solar cover from the sun (about $20). This raises the pool temperature during the day and helps the pool from cooling off as much over night. I live in the Dallas Texas area and have full sun most of the time.
Good Cover, Temperature increase of 5-10 degress
July 14, 2015
This is a great cover, especially for the price. We bought the 20x40 and had to cut it down, which was extremely easy. The cover has been on our pool for about a month, and has raised the temperature of the pool approximately 5-10 degrees.A few suggestions-buy a good reel with straps- this was our biggest issue-keep your filter running when the cover is on if possible- the cover works well, but may only heat up the top 6 inches of water, we kept our filter on to circulate the water and found that it helped keep it more of an even temperature. This also helps with the junk that collects around the cover.- keep on at night- it seems that most of the heat escapes at night, and while the cover will help the sunlight rapidly heat the pool, it will also keep the heat from escaping as the temperature drops
Well worth the money. You gotta buy this. Doesn't last 5 years though.
July 12, 2015
So worth the money. My pool consistently stay in the high 80s-low 90s without using the heater for anything other than for the hot tub. This does cause more pool maintenance as everything likes the higher temps but it's worth it (and you can always regulate the temp by not putting the cover on). Also, the cover helps reduce evaporation, and so reduces water costs as well. This cover will shrink a lot. I cut it very long, let it shrink several inches all around, then re-cut it to just barely small enough. A year later and there's a 2 inch gap all around the cover. Not horrible but not as covered up as I'd like. This will pay for itself in a month or two of running your pool's heater.Update (Feb 2016):This cover is already falling apart, it doesn't look like a trash bag on the side of the road yet, but decent number of the 'packing bubbles' have popped and I skimmed them out of the water and just recently when I rolled it up I pulled it (too hard apparently) and ripped it. I'll see how long it will last until it's more trouble than it's worth. Maybe it will last an entire year? 5-year warranty? Let's see how to cash in on that. That said, I'd still buy another one unless I can find one that will definitely last more than 1 year. The money that I saved not running the heater just this one year easily would have paid for several of these. I never once actually heated the pool. The only time we even run the heater is for the hot tub, and we still had to take the cover off during the summer several times because the pool was too hot. And when we did you could easily see the difference in how quickly the water would evaporate without the cover. I reduced a star because it's only lasted 1 (2 tops) of its supposed 5 years.
Good cover for a big pool
July 4, 2015
Seems like good quality; specs say 12mil and it seems to be. Pool guy said it is better than the typical 'bubble wrap' type of cover he sees. Just unpack, place on pool and trim, which is best done slowly so you don't overcut. We bought this oversize to fit a 18x42 pool. The corners are the tricky part, just cut less than you think the proper amount should be and slowly trim more to make it fit your pool. I looked on youtube for videos that show you how to cut, good idea to view one first. Following a suggestion on a video, I cut it to conform to the ladder and also left a 'flap' where the skimmer opening is, to direct debris into the skimmer, instead of having a gap between the edge and the opening. Cuts down on evaporation big time, and also heats the water quite well. (We don't have a heater, this makes it warm enough in the summer to swim comfortably.)

Not quite 2 years
May 25, 2017
We are about 3 months shy of the 2 year mark and it is starting to fall apart. We may be able to make it to 2 years but it's really starting to go fast. I had higher hopes, it was a solid cover for 18 months with no sign of deterioration but once things started warming up and we started using it again it started taking a turd.
lasts about 2 years
March 2, 2017
I live in SWFL. The solar blanket does help keep the water warmer and does prevent some evaporative loss. This has a 5 yr warranty but is pro-rated for replacement. These cover actually last about 2 years tops. I purchased in Feb 2015 and the thing is falling apart--cracking and brittle, air pocket dots shedding and this leaves a mess in the water and skimmer/filter. I know how to take care of the cover when not in use so it was not mishandled. Since 2003, have had to replace about every 2 yrs. Doesn't seem to matter which company/manufacturer--just seems to be the nature of the product. Since I purchased via Amazon Fulfillment guess I need to contact them about replacement.
After 13 months the cover tore easily and the bubbles were turning white from leakage
June 30, 2016
I purchased this pool cover in May 2015 in part because of its 5 year warranty. I used the cover all the year. After 13 months the cover tore easily and the bubbles were turning white from leakage. I then read the warranty which states "the purchaser shall pay the following percent of the manufacturer's list price at the time of the replacement. First Year 0%; Second Year 35%" and so on. Amazon now sells the cover for $78.99 (with "free" Prime shipping) but lists the retail price at $343.95. So after 12 months the buyer must pay over $120 plus shipping to obtain a warranty replacement cover. In the past I have paid $200-$300 for covers which on average have lasted two years, so I am paying over $100/year for covers. At under $80, this is a something of a deal if it lasts a year, although the new one I just purchased seems thinner than the 2015 cover. It is too bad for the environment that my garbage can is full of old pool cover every year or so.The Prime shipping was extremely fast - 48 hours.
Good for the price...
May 27, 2016
The solar cover does work great, but you'll be lucky to get 3 seasons out of it before it starts disintegrating into a million pieces. We use it on a 35,000 gallon inground pool in northern Ohio. It warms the pool up nice, we actually have to remove the cover for a few days in mid summer because the water temp will hit 90. The pic is the new one we just bought, we haven't trimed it down to fit yet.
the seams are awesome but the rest of the cover degraded in about ...
December 29, 2015
The cover lasted about a year. After a year, the cover started to get tears. The company claims to have a 5-year warranty but this is only for the seams. Yes, the seams are awesome but the rest of the cover degraded in about a year so you will need to buy a new one every year or so. But, for the price, it seems like one year of usage may be ok. Perhaps other companies offer more durable covers, but I would guess they are much more expensive.
2 Year Later Report
October 15, 2015
Well ,I am witting this 2 years latter, and, the bubble side of the cover has started to shed in my pool. The cover is deteriorating .That's the bad. The really good is, that it does work in keeping the heat in , and keeping the chlorine gases in the pool. All of that said,I don't use it year around, but when I do, I like it. I will buy another one. Why? Because it works.I noticed Kohls online has them for $10.00 more . Kohl'soffers a "No Questions Asked - Hassle-Free" return policy for all purchases*.There are no time restrictions for returns. No receipt is needed for Kohl's Charge purchases. I know of only 4 places that offer this type of return policy. They are Costco, LL Bean , Nordstrom ,and Kohls.Since these covers only last 2 years, why not give Kohls the business. .

Will heat pool well, but will not last long.
July 20, 2017
When new, it works great. It raised my pool temperature 5-10 degrees compared to my neighbors pool. The first one I got lasted two years before it started to tear. The second one I got lasted about one year before it also started to tear and the bubbles started to pop off. It didn't just tear at one spot but at various places all around the same time, like the chlorine started to deteriorate the material. I've decided to try out another brand after two blankets that didn't last long.
Cover is falling apart in our 2nd season of use!
May 28, 2017
We are going into our 2nd season with this cover, and though it is great at warming our pool, it has started disintegrating! We have a large amount of blue and clear plastic circle pieces floating in our pool now! I didn't know it was a common problem until I went back to Amazon to order another cover and started reading the recent reviews. I thought it might be our pool chemicals or the severe heat in Arizona that have been causing it to fall apart. We only have it on our pool from late April to October (very sparingly from July-August). I guess I will look for another brand.
works great but not 5 years worth
May 9, 2017
I live in Tucson, AZ. We used the cover from May until October of last year, daily covering the pool and only taking it off when swimming. It was excellent at keeping the pool warm and clean. I stored it in a container, in a shed, for the winter. When I put it back on my pool this April, I didn't notice that some of the bubbles had started falling apart. After a week, I went to clean the pool and the pool had tons of little blue plastic pieces floating - shreds. But the majority of the cover was still intact. The cover itself held together fine that first week. After 3 weeks, although the pool was heating up nicely with the cover, it was rapidly deteriorating. By the end of April there were small rips in the cover, where the bubbles were shredded. Last week, big tears were occurring. Now I can't even put the cover on. It fills my pool up with plastic pieces that take hours to even get most of it out. It doesn't cover the whole pool now. I am very disappointing that it only lasted one season. I was relieved we had a 5 year warranty. I wrote to the warranty department but haven't heard back for 2 weeks now.
Maybe will last one or two years.
May 28, 2016
The pros:The cover did work for the first year, and kept the pool pretty much as warm as I wanted. I live in the desert southwest where it often gets to over 100 degrees, but it also gets really windy so without a cover the temperature will often drop to the low 70s. With the cover I could easily get it to 95 degrees if I wanted. It also really helps with evaporation and reduces the amount of chemicals you need, first because the sun does’t break down the chlorine as quickly, and second because with less evaporation and less water added, the PH stays much more stable. The cons:Saying that this pool cover has a 5 year warranty is really misleading. I treated it very carefully, always had it off for the full day when I shocked the pool or added any acid. I purchased this on 4/7/2014 and after just one year in April it started falling apart - it became brittle, cracking, and the bubbles started coming off. I contacted the manufacturer and they shipped me a replacement. I had to pay for shipping which was around $35. The replacement I got was actually a 3 year cover (cheaper and thinner). The same thing happened in under 6 months to that one. When I contacted the manufacturer they told me I had to pay a prorated amount of THEIR cost plus shipping. Their cost is MUCH higher than Amazon, so to replace it again after 18 months it would cost about $97, almost what I paid for a new cover through Amazon.Below is the communication with the company on 10/23/2015. I originally purchased the cover on 4/7/2014:"Under the warranty agreement you are responsible for the prorated amount of $83.63. You are also responsible for the shipping amount of $35.94."After I let them know this was ridiculous, paying as much as a new cover for a warranty replacement, they responded again:"I can completely understand where you are coming from. I reviewed your receipt again and it stated that you purchased this last year, 4/7/14. The warranty proration is based off of the current retail cost which is $328.95.I have went ahead and escalated this, and the best I can do is offer the proration amount of 61.00 and the shipping amount of 35.94."However, it may be as good as any other pool cover, just don't expect it to last anywhere close to 5 years. I called Leslie's pools to ask about their warranty and they said their 5 year cover only applies to seams coming apart (they're melted together so I don't see how that can happen). They said if the bubbles pop or crack the warranty is voided. So basically their warranty doesn't cover anything. Compared to that, Blue Wave was great.
Good product for a year and half, but don't count on the warranty.
September 25, 2015
While I've owned the pool cover, it has done everything it has promised to do...warm up the pool. I have a large pool, so it can be difficult to remove and add the cover with just one person. The reason for the two starts is...after a year and a half, the bubbles started falling apart. I contacted the company regarding the 5-year warranty. They stand by it...but you have to pay the percentage the buyer is responsible for based on the MSRP. So for me, it was a year after so 35% of $165.99 plus a $30 S&H. It is cheaper to purchase another one at the moment from Amazon. I recommend the product, but I suggest you purchase it using a credit card that offers warranty extension/protection.
Doesn't hold up in hot Florida sun!
April 20, 2015
I had high hopes for this solar blanket based on the favorable reviews. It seemed like very good quality when we got it and it was easy to cut and fit to our pool. We used it about 3 months the first year, stored it away and used it about 3 months the second year. We have a saltwater pool, so no harsh chemicals are going into the water at any given time. When we lifted the cover this year to put it away, the bottom bubbles had completely disintegrated and would wipe off with the lightest touch of my hand. The blanket got so thin in areas that it started to rip in the middle. I contacted the company and, while they stood by their warranty and offered me a prorated replacement, they were going to chart $23.90 in shipping cost to get the replacement blanket sent to my house. That would save me about $5 off the cost of a new one on amazon. No thanks, I'll try another brand. Maybe the blanket wasn't meant to be used in hot Florida sun?

DEFECTIVE
May 16, 2017
Defective. READ the warranty policy! I called customer service and seemed to be making out OK and then the follow up email- They want to charge me very close to the amount of a new cover for a replacement since they agreed the item is defective after 3 months of use (3 months) last season. $60 pro-rated and $40 for shipping the replacement cover. No thanks- I will just buy a new cover from another manufacturer. Very disappointing and a huge waste of my time on the phone, taking pictures and emailing. I do not recommend this cover or company!
Only survived 2 seasons!
May 15, 2017
Initially, we were pretty pleased with this purchase. Easy to cut and shape to our pool and seems to work well. We are very, very disappointed that it only lasted two seasons, even though we took very good care of it – we always cover it when it's not on the pool for more than a couple of hours, clean it well and make sure it's dry and store it indoors after the season is over, and keep the chlorine level and check in our salt water pool. Regardless, it seemed to disintegrate right before our eyes!
Lucky If You Get A Few Years' Use Out of It (and forget about the warranty!)
January 30, 2017
In late March of 2015, I purchased the 16x32 solar pool cover ($106), along with the Aqua Splash ReelAqua Splash 16 Ft. In Ground Swimming Pool Solar Cover Blanket Reel ($150). After cutting the solar pool cover, it did a good job of keeping our pool warm, and in reducing water evaporation. However, it is now only late January of 2017, and less than 2 years after purchasing the solar pool cover, it is starting to tear and fall apart. I first noticed it this weekend when I was putting the cover into place. The cover is tearing in multiple places, and when I touched one portion of the cover, it basically disentegrated in my hand. Frankly, I don't think it's going to last us through this year.Worst of all, the five-year warranty is absolutely worthless, as you only get a pro-rated amount AND you have to pay to have it shipped back to the manufacturer. At that rate, you're better off buying a brand new pool cover. It's disappointing that the pool cover lasted less than 2 years. Even though I live in Southern California, our pool does not get so much sunlight that I would have expected the pool cover to fail in such a short period of time. I would have expected it to last much longer than this!
Don't buy this cover!!!
May 20, 2016
We purchased this cover for our pool in Florida in March of 2014. By January of 2016, I noticed the cover had started to deteriorate to the point that it needed replaced. It is now May and we have started using our pool enough that I decided to look into a replacement cover. The old cover is still on the pool, but every time I take it off, there's a bunch of pieces of the cover floating around...basically the little bubbles have become brittle and are coming off. I pull up my old orders on Amazon to see what it was I ordered. It was then when I got excited to see that the cover has a 5 year warranty! Yay!!!I call up the company, Blue Wave, and an Order Support Specialist by the name of Leo takes my call. The warranty coverage for this cover prorates over the 5 year span to where in I need to fork over some money in order to get a new cover. He ends up sending me an email to which I needed to reply with a proof of purchase and pictures of the failed cover. I replied with the information requested. All this shook down on 5/19/16.Today, 5/20/16, I get a reply from Kim Buchanan, another Order Support person. According to Blue Wave, my prorated amount under the warranty agreement is $94.98. Keep in mind, this is barely over two years since the original purchase. Oh yeah, in addition to the the $94.98, I would also be responsible for the shipping amount of $30.77. This company, Blue Wave, wants me to pay $125.75 to replace a two year old cover under warranty...when I can buy a new one for $101.99??? No thanks! Basically the "Backed by a 5-year warranty" is a scam! The cover I order to replace this one will not be from Blue Wave, nor will it be manufactured by Blue Heaven.
Misleading warranty, buyer beware

Product works as described, but warranty is misleading. Mine started to disintegrate after 1 season. It has a 5 year warranty so I emailed the seller. They wanted me to pay a "pro-rated" warranty fee nearly as much as purchasing a new one! None of that is disclosed on the current product page, which I think needs to be addressed.
Cover appears to fail quickly and warranty not worth the trouble

I purchased the cover May 2014. It is peeling blue plastic all over the pool 14 months later. We live in an area where summer temps average in the 80's. This product offers a "5 year warranty". The warranty states: 1st year 0%, 2nd year 35%, 3rd year 50%, 4th year, 70%, 5th year 90% PLUS shipping and handling. I contacted the manufacturer and was told it will cost $50.03 (pro-rated) + $29.74 shipping, total $79.77 after 14 months! I paid $110.66 from Amazon that included free shipping.
