a must have
June 26, 2017
I really like this unit. I use it in my office because of the air quality at work. I was constantly sneezing and coughing with flu like symptoms and this has helped tremendously. I never turn it off except to clean the filter.
Anyother Great Honeywell Product!
August 11, 2016
I think I've had this Honeywell for most of this year and it has not had one problem yet. I read many reviews on different air purifiers before deciding on this one. They all had pretty much the same complaint with the other purifiers. For me, this was just the best solution.First, I've never ever had a problem with a Honeywell product, so I was pretty much sold when I saw this one even after reading reviews for other purifiers. Second, their customer service has always been helpful. Third, I loved the double filtration system this one has.The only problem I have with it, and it's on my end not theirs, it's just a little to small for the room I use it in. I was just guessing how big my room was...now I know that this little one is just a tad bit too small. So when I decide to get a bigger one, this will be moved to another room! I wouldn't stop using this one unless it was really old and just broke one day. That's just how much I like this one.For people who have problems with noises, I hate to break it to you all, most electronics of this type makes some sort of noise. If that bothers you, you could get a bunch of plants or whatever and try that. For me, it's white noise that goes along with the fans I already have blowing in my room. I actually find that all that white noise helps me fall asleep. I've always had that problem, I cannot sleep unless there's something like this in my room. I think it's actually extremely quiet. When it's on and the fans aren't blowing I just don't notice it.The up keep is so easy my cat could probably do it. The first line of defense is a washable filter. It's just that easy. Take it out, wash it thoroughly. You'll probably be a tad grossed out when you do this for the first time. I certainly didn't expect it to be as dirty as it was. So every time I wash it, I kinda get the case of the ickyness. This first filter does do all the heavy lifting before things get to the HEPA filter. I wash it once a week but that's just me wanting to actually preserve the life of my machine. If you wait until about three weeks you'll notice a difference in smell right away. It's just a good habit to get into to make this air purifier keep on working efficiently. You'll see plenty of complaints by other people that theirs breaks (stops working) really fast and I'm will to guess that this is why theirs breaks...they do not clean the filters out properly. One tiny thing more...make sure the filter is completely dry before putting it back in. Mine only takes about 20 minutes or so and it's ready to go again. The HEPA filter cannot be and absolutely should not be washed. It will ruin it. That's pretty much a fact. And I wouldn't go as far as saying it would never need to be replaced. I've taken mine out every time I wash the first filter and it still has a bunch of dust/debris that needs to be either vacuumed out or shaken out. That part only takes a few minutes to do. I do this once a week as well. I would suggest getting at least two extra HEPA filters as a backup. They are inexpensive and it provides a sense of security just in case something does happen to the first HEPA filter it comes with. Again, that's just a recommendation. It helps you out if you don't have time to properly clean the dirty filter. Just pop a newer one in and clean the other one when you have the time to. Just do not EVER wash the HEPA filter and I cannot stress that enough!Overall I give this five stars because it's really earned it. Treat it right and you'll get tons of use out of it. If you have a question or need some advice with your new air purifier, I would be very willing to help out! All you need to do is just ask!
Been a few months and we love it
June 13, 2016
I bought this in Febuary, its now June and I still Love it. The filters are both easy to clean. I bring them out to the garage and blow them clean with the air compresssor about once a week or so. I use it in my office, which is also the smoking room for the house. Keeps the house form smelling like an ashtray. Also helps with dust and pollen. It is LOUD on high, but I only run it on high if theres more than 1 person in there. My only complaint is I wish it came in another colour, white and smoke just don't mix. It does make me clean the exterior at least once a week, So, maybe thats not a bad thing. The money we save not having to buy filters every month is quite a bit, and not having to run out and buy them is priceless.
This Product Cleans the Air
May 9, 2016
I don't have any allergies or respiratory issues that I know of. I bought this because the air in LA can get terrible and I don't want to develop some kind of respiratory issue later on down the road. This particular unit sits in my bedroom and I leave it running throughout the night when I'm at home. I can't honestly tell you if it works or not since I have no symptoms of any kind that need alleviating. However, I can tell you that when I clean it there's a lot of crap it picks up. Cleaning is simple a straightforward. You don't have to be a rocket scientist to perform this cleaning task. However since I am no scientist I can't tell you if you should use the ionizer or not. I looked at some research regarding this online and it seems that it probably best to not run the ionizer indoors.
Great machine
October 10, 2015
I bought one to try for my computer/piano room because I smoke. I liked it so much, I bought a second one for the bedroom. It cleared the air within a half hour. I use the bedroom unit for white noise (instead of a fan) to block outside noises. I have a dog, who barks at every little noise outside. It serves all purposes. Having the green light from the machine on in the bedroom is okay most of the time. I have it on a shelf so it is high enough not to reflect toward the bed. Excellent product.
You can't beat these Air Purifiers!!
August 5, 2015
This air purifier is awesome. We have one in each bedroom, as well as the living room (5 in total). I clean the filters every two weeks and they are almost always full of dust, regardless of the time of year (pollen season or not). We have no pets. The proof is in the before and after pictures. I simply take the filters off and blow them out with an air compressor. They are really easy to clean and work great. We've had no issues with noise.

A good air purfier/white noise machine.
July 24, 2017
This is the second one I have bought so there is the best review for this air purifier from me. On high it is noisy and I like that when I sleep, a definite white noise I personally find soothing. On low it is reasonably quiet for the work it is doing. The lights are a bright blue in a dark bedroom so I just used some black electrical tape to cover them up. I like to change the pre-filters often so I found a website that sells generic versions that are just as good and lots less expensive than the name brand. Since I love the noise on high at night and used black tape to cover the lights, there are no drawbacks for me using this. It works well, the air smells cleaner, I have used my first one almost constantly for almost a year, I think. All good.
The white noise is very calming and the unit does an amazing job at removing dust from the air
February 1, 2017
I keep this unit sitting in my living room area in a corner on top of a piece of rustic furniture. The white noise is very calming and the unit does an amazing job at removing dust from the air. I ordered several charcoal filter back-ups and switch them out every few weeks to keep the Hepa Filter from getting dirty. Winter time this runs 24 hours a day non-stop. I would highly recommend this purchase.
Going strong after 3 years!
June 14, 2016
We have had this running day and night for 3 years and it is in great condition. There are no strange rattling noises or clogs like you see in some other air purifiers. It provides a nice ambient noise and it not too loud (on the lowest setting). We have noticed a significant decrease in our allergies and in the dust in our home.Replacing the prefilters every 3 months is a breeze - you just unscrew the bottom, unwrap the old one and wrap the new one onto the HEPA filter. (We do it outside to reduce dust in our home).Great product!
Best air filter I have found.
May 22, 2016
My wife and I have allergies and needed something with more air cleaning capacity than one of those little units you can stick on your desk. ThisMachine is powerful and moves a great deal of air. If I crank it up to full power it is really quite loud. It does make a big difference in the amount of dust that we see accumulating on surfaces like table. More important it really does help with the allergies. We bought a second filter of this type about a month ago,
Love this model of Honeywell Air Purifier
October 4, 2015
This was a replacement for an older model of Honeywell and I like this one a lot! Really does the job good of cleaning the air of pollutants and bird dander (I have a Cockatoo that are known for their very fine dander). It is very easy to clean and I'm able to use the vacuum cleaner to vacuum the filters. I'm very satisfied with this unit.
Don't Hesitate, Outstanding Results
February 22, 2015
Very satisfied with this air purifier for my living room and dining room areas. Living in a vintage home I lease I have no control over how dirty the heating duct system is. I change the HVAC system filter once a month but the air just did not seem clean and the visible dust accumulation o tables etc. was heavy. My nose was always stuffy also. This is a fairly large unit, however it is very efficient, I physically feel better with more energy and my stuffy nose issue is gone. I run this when I am home. Dust accumulation is reduced. I have a tower "hepa type" unit in my bedroom that I will be replacing with the smaller version of this unit. I now see there is a big difference between "hepa type" and a pure, true Hepa air purifier as this one is.. Also, last year we had a fire nearby and the visibility outside was less than a city block so you can imagine what the inside air quality was like. In that we seem to no longer have winters or rain in California unfortunately I think this air purifier will be pressed into service again to clean smoke from the interior of my house. I could not be more pleased with this unit

Still working after 5 years!
October 9, 2017
Wow, I bought 3 of these 5 years ago! They are still running and working fine as far as I can tell. I like that you don't have to replace the hepa filters but I think it may be time anyway. How can they last forever? To clean this machine I take out and vacuum and sometimes wask the outer filter and vacuum the hepa filter and the interior of the case where it sits. These serve two purposes for us - white noise and filtration. I need the white noise and these have a fair level of soothing noise depending on the setting. Great for the money, Did just buy a GermGuardian to try out though for a more problematic area - the basement. I would buy these again though.
powerful little air cleaner with washable filter!
October 3, 2016
Excellent little unit I purchased some years back and still going strong! I like how easy it is to tuck somewhere and filter the dust in my room. The washable filter is a bonus since I do not need to purchase new filters! Sometimes I even place an air freshener near by to circulate around my room. I have some allergies to dust and pollen (especially come spring) and this has made a noticeable difference in my quality of life while at home.If you are looking for a small unit without the hassle of having to replace filters and are on a budget, this is the unit for you. I would say it seems a bit loud, even on low but it does not bother me while I sleep.
Same noise as window air conditioner but effective air purifier
December 5, 2015
Does the job. The noise does get to me at times, about the same as a window air conditioner, but if it's between the noise and breathing, I'll put in earplugs, LOL. Rather large room, about 300 SF with 12 foot ceilings, and it keeps out the neighbors' cigarette smoke and woodsmoke from neighborhood wood stoves and fireplaces. I have reactive airway disease and unlike some folks, find that the ionizer helps rather than hurts. It is on a separate switch, and the fan has high medium and low (or high and low). I started out with it beside my bed, thinking it wouldn't be all that effective. I actually breathe fine now with the purifier (and the noise) across the room.Best product in the price range in my opinion, and I'm a "professional breather", having had many such devices through the years. Anything to kee us off steroids. Give it a try.
Good filter for a small room.
February 5, 2014
We wanted an air purifier for our bedroom and this one had a small enough footprint. As recommended by the enclosed instructions, we left this on 24hours a day. We also liked the fact that the purifier doubled as white noise while operating. This little unit sure does filter a lot of dust. The filter cleaning reminder is nice and you just have to vacuum out all the dust from the filter and mesh. However, literally one year after purchase, the little motor started making a whining noise, then finally quit working 1 day after my year was up. I thought I'd have to buy another one to replace it, but then I saw I had a 3 year warranty while browsing here to buy another one. I called up Kaz to get a replacement and it was very simple. The CS rep was quick to give me a RMA # and an address to ship the broken unit to. I had to pay shipping for my broken unit, but it's better than paying for a brand new one.A couple of weeks later, I received a brand new replacement from Kaz. I would've given this filter 5 stars if it hadn't broken within its warranty period and honestly, I have a feeling I'm going to have to get a replacement in another year... We'll see, but Kaz truly stands behind their products and I have no issues buying another Kaz product again (we have a couple of Honeywell products along with this one).
Good for the price
October 13, 2013
I'm using this air filter in a small (11x12) bedroom, and it seems to do a decent job of catching the dust. The primary filter was quite dirty the first time I cleaned it out after a couple months of nightly use. The secondary filter does not appear to be too dirty yet, but that can be a little difficult to determine unless it is very dirty. I have yet to use the ionizer; I hear conflicting reports on the effectiveness / safety of those devices. It is a bit on the noisy side though. If you like some white noise in the background, especially to help you sleep, this filter provides a comfortable white noise. I like it, but I know some folks don't. The noise increases considerably from the first setting to the second and third. The reason I haven't given it a higher rating is that the white noise has acquired a rhythmic or pulsing sound recently. It used to have a very consistent "soft static" type sound which I found very relaxing and good audio camouflage for urban noise. The sound has recently changed to a pulsing static sound which is pretty distracting. I've been able to get rid of it by switching between speed setting one and two, although that doesn't always work. Last night I tried a highly technical troubleshoot - I just picked the filter up and dropped it a few inches onto the shelf it sits on. That seemed to solve the sound irregularity for the moment.
Excellent Value
March 23, 2013
I would have easily given this product the fifth star, but for the fact that it's a bit noisier than I'd expected. However, its relatively low cost as a whole room air purifier, plus having a permanent HEPA filter and a built-in ionizer than can be turned on or off make this a winner in my books. It's light-weight and fits nicely on a portable TV tray stand. Best of all, it works. Having 4 rather large house dogs obviously leaves ALOT of pet dander and dust in the air. In one week's time my allergies have markedly improved. Hope this review is helpful. :)Yours for more informed shopping,Dennis

Solid Filter - Will probably buy 2
August 11, 2017
I subtracted 1 star for two issues that need to be addressed by the company.1) removal of the ridiculous blue LED light - it will kill your sleep patterns until you disassemble the machine and remove it from the circuit board2) the lack of sanitation by way of a UV-C bulb that would not produce ozone. This product only mechanically filters - which is nice. But it would be nicer if it included a couple technologies from the last 10+ years. This device would be a home run if it had a UV-C bulb operating above 240nm (preferably 253.7nm) to purify (kill germs) the air in addition to cleaning it (removing particles), all without creating ozone. Sadly Honeywell was a bit cheap here. A ridiculous benefit would be an ozone generator on a 4 to 10-minute timer per 24 hour period to keep the ppm down.Definitely looking at mid 40dB to 60dB which is a little louder than smaller room models. Wouldn't trade this one for the world though. I also have owned the Honeywell 17000s since 2008 which is probably 5-10dB quieter, but maybe only does 1/3 to 1/2 as much air. The Honeywell 17000s I can tolerate on loud in the next room over or medium in the room I occupy. This 50250 I have to run on low or medium. High is just too loud unless vacuuming/etc.This 50250 filters way way way way more air than the 17000s though. It's not even close. I used the 17000s in college for a dorm room and it was great. But for a 1300sq. ft apartment with 2 bedrooms the 17000s cannot do the living room very well. This 50250 combined with the 17000s in the living room bring me back to feeling how the 17000s felt in a bedroom. I'll eventually get 2x 50250's in the living room and put the 17000s in the bedroom to hold me over until I replace the HVAC and add the parts that any decent home should've had during the building process.I still think the blue lights on the machine are BS and I will probably disassemble at some point and remove them from the circuit board. Things need to stop coming with lights and beepers.Additionally, I kind of wish CFM was readily listed. CADR & sq. ft are both the wrong units to measure volume and air changes (which you want 2 to 9 per hour) depending on what you're doing or how bad your asthma is. I guess companies use these measurments to seem more "relatable" to consumers, but it really just feels like a cover up.The best answers on every air filter would be:CFM, dB, filter % by micron size, filter cost, replacement interval, yearly watt usage---> all listed by in a chart by speed setting (low, med, high).Companies just don't want you to know if they're really the best or not. Such a shame it's left up to red boxes, bold text, and random marketing/lobbying.*note* I did have to disassemble the 17000s after 2-3 years of running it because the motor was making bearing noise. I greased it with Pennzoil and it ran fine for 5 years then I did it again with some Amsoil nlgi #2 and haven't' had any issues since.
Very pleased. Will be buying a 2nd one.
April 8, 2017
Researched a lot before purchase. Decision came after talking with cousin who's son suffers from Cystic Fibrosis. Very serious Lung/stomach disorder. They live in A.Z. I knew she did her homework as well and her son, now 16, is thriving! I recently moved and have been sick with sinusitis and sore throat, stuffy nose from the get go. I believe it comes from carpet but I'm a renter so it won't be getting changed. Even the Cat is sneezing. I notice people claim immediate relief. I get that as the fresh air that comes out, as for now, I live in N.Y., is nice and cool. I believe that soothed the very irritated sinuses. Thus, fast relief. I've had it for a few weeks now and the difference is great. I run it 24/7. I live in a 1BR condo with large LR, DR, Kitchen, BR and entrance way. I keep it in Living room during the day and BR at night. I am waking up, finally, not extremely sick. I noticed when I put it in BR and fell asleep on the couch in LR I woke to a stuffy nose after about 2 hours. As soon as I got in the BR it began to clear. I would give it 5 stars except the noise does drive me a little crazy. I'm sound sleeper so doesn't bother me at night. However, in LR when watching TV it's annoying. But~ I guess it has to be that way to push the air so it is what it is! The price was right and soon I plan on buying the smaller one to keep in BR permanently instead of moving from room to room. However, it's not hard to pick up and move. Has handle to make it easy and I'm not so strong. Also read comments about the fan going off a bit and making noise. Some video showed how to fix it. I heard the sound, but it went away and all seems good for now. Should the issue occur it looks easy enough to fix. Best wishes in your breathing and hope my review has helped!
Allergy Sufferers, help is here!!
October 10, 2016
Love this filter! There is a sense of more cleaner and crisper air. I am a severe allergy sufferer so I am willing to try anything/everything to make my home environment better. Ever since I brought this I don't wake up as stuffed up. I also like the fact that it has 360 degrees vents. The only thing that stopped me from giving it a 5 star is that it is super noisy when on its highest setting, definetely can't sleep with it, on its lowest setting its good, it kind of sound like a quiet ac unit.
Excellent product
June 29, 2016
Three months of non-stop operation and it is working really well. The purifier has noticeably helped my asthma, and the scent of 3 dogs has diminished as well. The top speed is loud and so I rarely use it at that setting which is a bit of a drawback when trying to clean the air. The middle setting is left on at night and when we are out, as it is also a bit loud. The lowest setting is quiet, and does not interfere with conversation, TV or radio listening. The directions indicated it might stain carpet if left, so I have had it sitting on a low table. I haven't seen any residue from its use.
Bigger than expected but it works good
February 11, 2016
I got this with Amazon warehouse deals for only $89! It said it was "used" because it was repackaged and there was less than 5% damage to the top of the unit. I got it and there was NO damage at all and it was NOT previously used. I saw a black scuff which was probably the 5% issues that's why it was marked down, but that rubbed right off with my finger. The high setting is pretty loud but the medium and low settings aren't so bad. I slept with the low setting on last night and didn't even notice the white fan noise. I have been sick with a stuffy nose but my husband said he woke up this morning and was breathing clearly. I have dogs and cats as well. They don't bother me so much but come this spring I hope this helps with pollen and what not. I always get miserable for at least a month. We will see. I live off a dirt road as well so everything is always dusty in my house which. I hope this helps with that! I would recommend this hepa unit. I gave it 4 stars only because I am not noticing anything yet because I am sick. Physically it feels like the air is cleaner. I plan to get another one once I move.
The 52500 is still running great, but I moved it into the upstairs area ...
August 27, 2015
I ordered this unit as a replacement to the Honeywell 52500. The 52500 is still running great, but I moved it into the upstairs area of my home and got the new one (50250) to take it's place downstairs. The 50250 is basically the exact same unit as the older 52500 with minor cosmetic differences. The controls are a bit different as the new one has a blue led light and two filter change reminder indicators and reset buttons. The only other big difference is the older model came with casters (wheels) on the bottom. The new unit does not come with the casters. This is why I knocked off 1 star. The unit is large and bulky and is much easier to move around on wheels. The new unit needs to be picked up and moved. I have a bad back, so this to me is significant. The unit is not very heavy at all, it's just bulky and kind of hard for me to move around without the wheels. Also, the new unit is made in Mexico whereas the older unit was made in the USA. The new unit seems to be a bit quieter during low speed operation and about the same volume at full blast. So far, after running it for one day, it seems like it's doing just as good of a job cleaning the air as the old model. This is a great unit new and old and will dramatically improve your indoor air quality.

Heartbreaker!!
July 13, 2016
Got this on May 1st fell in love with it, I could finally breathe until it died July 5th a little over two months, sad to say my shortest love affair... I have been stuffed up and having constant headache ever since if died.. The noise was very calming for me even on high. Now am back online seeking better love, this one left me hopelessly crying 😪
my allergy symptoms were relieved and I was able to breathe easily at night
November 29, 2015
Having used this air purifier 24/7, I must specify the challenge of cleaning the unit. Replacing the filters was a hassle since the plastic are flimsy and likely to break. The motor and fans are inaccessible since these components are SEALED so they can not be cleared of debris. the air purifier produced a lot of noise on all three fan speeds. The ionizer is also noisy since it buzzes when the feature is activated. However, my allergy symptoms were relieved and I was able to breathe easily at night. I would recommend this product if the noise is not an issue.
Cleans air but the noise level is a problem
December 1, 2013
This product has become a huge disappointment to me due to the noise factor. I've been using one of the units in my bedroom for the past 6 months. (It is strictly a one-room unit.) It has done a good job purifying the air. I've noticed considerably less dust in the room, and experienced fewer dust allergies as a result. But the noise level has become unbearable in spite of my efforts to keep the filters clean. Even on the lowest setting, the noise has become unbearable. It interferes with my sleep. If I turn it off overnight, I wake up with stuffy sinuses. I bought two of these units, and experienced the same noise problems with both, and the noise issue gets worse and worse over time. If I could return it, I would. As is, I will be moving it to the basement and looking for a quieter unit. This air purifier is fine for a room not frequently used, like a basement or guest room. But it is far too loud for a living space.
Not what I'd hoped for.
November 19, 2013
I bought this unit to use in a small office space that's 9' x 14'. A ceiling fan in the space keeps the air circulating at all times. I own several other larger HEPA air cleaners, as I suffer from allergies. While I thought I might be pushing it to get this unit to cover the entire size of my office, I decided to try it anyway.First, the unit is noisy when it operates on high, and at lower speeds it doesn't circulate enough air to be useful for me. == I have to turn it off ever time the telephone rings; else conversation is impossible. It does include an ozone generator, which I find does help mask or eliminate odors. The HEPA filter is permanent, although it can be removed for cleaning. The pre-fiter is a foam pad that must be removed from time-to-time for cleaning, and the HEPA filter can be vacuumed although not washed.Basically, the unit just isn't powerful enough to me, not enough to clean what I consider a small room, unless the room's door is closed and has been running for some time. Given enough time to recirculate the air, it does work. In a very small, enclosed space where noise levels are not an issue, I think this would be an excellent choice.
Never thought I would need an air filter in addition to plants!
November 13, 2013
Just received it yesterday 11/12 it is 11/13 today.Never thought I would need an air filter in addition to plants! But the air quality was killing our plants. I always have an issue with instructions included for most products I buy leaving out details. This left out the one of the filters is still covered in plastic. Hubby came home and was unsure if the sound would allow him to sleep comfortably. At first plug in I thought it was louder than what I consider quiet. So I went back on Amazon went through the reviews alittle more and found someone touched on the same complaint/concern as hubby/I; his or her findings were very helpful. Directed me to check the filters one was still completely enclosed in plastic once removed sound decreased significantly.Once adjustment was made; a few hours later I asked Hubby to turn his bed side light on. Prior to having air filter; bed side light would reveal a snow storm of dust in the room. After a few hours of the adjustment; a very noticeably difference in the snow storm of dust.I had chosen to turn on high with ionizer during daytime hours then low during sleep hour. Intend to keep you posted stay tuned!
It does a great job, but it is cheap.
April 2, 2013
I live in Seattle in an old apartment building that had some mold issues during the winter. During the spring and summer we get hit with all kinds of allergens, and for the rest of the year we have lots of dust due to low air circulation.I first picked one of these up for work, and I noticed a difference in the air quality after the first day. I was convinced of this unit actually filtering the air, and the ionizer actually helping with dust issues. The room at work is about 12'x'12'x12' and you can feel the air moving, and it feels less heavy from dust and other particles. However, after purchasing a second device for my home, I was a bit disappointed with the quality of the device. Within a week, the knob to control the power quit working on the lowest setting, so I am stuck with the high or medium settings. It still registers that the device is "on" and the ionizer light is on, but when on the lowest setting, no air is moved. On the high and medium setting, this air purifier works great and I would recommend it for that reason - it does its job, and it does it well. Due to the cheap craftsmanship though, I will no being giving this device a 5 star rating.

Blow hard
February 10, 2017
This unit has great air flow which is important for proper air filtration. It seems to clean the air well. Unfortunately it is to noisy for a bedroom at over 55dB on low speed. The frequency is also a bit high which adds to the apparent noise level. This unit would be good in an office or other work area. Also the thing has a bright light on the knob that can't be blocked. Additionally it is blue which is worse for sleeping.
Loud and with a bright light you can't turn off
May 27, 2016
Be aware that this air purifier is loud, substantially louder than other air purifiers we've used, including others by Honeywell (even at lowest setting). At night, it's actually a good white noise machine if you don't mind a loud fan noise while sleeping, but this wouldn't be good in a setting where you need it quiet. Also, there is a surprisingly bright blue light that is impossible to turn off, so if you're planning to have this in your bedroom, be prepared to be annoyed by the light. We ended up covering the blue light with post-it notes and tape, which of course looks really janky.
Requires a lot of Maintenance. Expensive to use. Seems to work.
January 4, 2015
Requires a lot of Maintenance. To use this properly one needs to replace the other carbon filter every 3 months and vacuum the inner hepa filter. Only when you buy this does it come with an exact fitting outer filter. The replacement filters all needs to be cut to fit.. this is very messy and time consuming. The inner Hepa filter is not designed for replacement. If you read through the question section it seems that the Honeywell 50250 which is a different model than the Honeywell 50250-s have replacements.I don't want to spend $50 replacing the Hepa filter with one that fits the Honeywell 50250 and not the Honeywell 50250-s.I dont think that the exact manufacturer Hepa filter is sold for this unit. Once the filter is depleted which has been estimated at roughly 3 years, it wont do much good. The unit uses a lot of A/C and is expensive to run... I have heard it on full power eats 180 watts. This unit seems to work best at full power to rid the air of dust particles that one can see flying though a beam of light. It does seem to collect in the outer filter a lot of dust at the end of the 3 month cycle, so I assume it works as far as cleaning up the air or improving it to some extent. The air does smell and feels fresher especially when placing a new outer filter and vacuuming out the inner Hepa. Or when new. Some have complained about the noise. I haven't experience a problem personally with the noise. It is important the unit is completely standing on a flat surface. Any tilt and the unit will make a lot of noise.
I can't tell if it works after 6 months of use
October 6, 2014
I've waited a few months before reviewing this Air Purifier because even now, I'm not really sure if it does anything. I bought this in May (it's October now) because we moved into a new house and both our dogs started going crazy scratching and they were miserable. I was unsure if it was outside or inside conditions causing this distressing issue (poor things were scratching and biting themselves raw). Our new house has a lot of carpet that we will not be able to replace completely for a year or 2 due to the big expense to install hard wood floors, and outside we have a lot of trees, both pine and oak so it could be something to do with pollen. Either way, I was desperate to relieve their discomfort. I bought this and put it in our bedroom, hoping that if it is pollen or carpet issues, that they could find comfort when sleeping or hanging out in that room.I've had this running constantly since May and I have to say that I do not see any difference between our bedroom and the rest of the house. The purifier is LOUD! Not just fan loud, but even on low it's drown out the TV loud! I don't actually mind that at night because I like white noise and it keep the "girls" from barking every time a pine cone hits the roof of the house or a car drives by.But I will say this, I have not had to dust the bedroom any less than the rest of the house. Dust still appears on the lamp shades and the furniture, and the area around the device gets annoyingly dusty. I have this near a window with blinds and drapes and both the blind in that specific window and the drape need constant dusting. I don't know why. Also, I did not notice any difference in the way the dogs felt after using this. My partner has allergies and uses an inhaler, and he has not noticed any particular cleaner air in the bedroom either. So really, I just do not know if this is working. We can not see or feel any difference in air quality in our home, so I really can't recommend this item as a definite help to anyone. As far as the dogs, it appears that is was a seasonal allergy and by the end of June they had worked out of it. I don't know what next spring will bring, but I'm hoping that their systems have had time to get used to the new plants in the area and hope that we will not have the same issue again!
Good filter, WAY too noisy for the sf it is meant for
January 5, 2014
I've used this filter since November 29th, in the main room of my 1BR apartment. In a 400 sf (square foot) apartment, this unit is far too loud for comfort. I'm sure it works fine, and it definitely does it's job well, but it is constantly vibrating and makes a very loud humming noise, even on low. One of the other problems I have with it is that it only has three speed settings, it should have more so that people can use it more continuously. Due to the inferior technology of the motor and blades, I'm going to return it and get a Winix. I would only recommend this to someone who owned a house and was NOT planning on using it in or near a bedroom where someone sleeps, TV room, or any other sound-sensitive place; and the second condition of the requirement would be if the person also couldn't (or didn't want to) buy a more expensive unit, as this one is very cheap for it's rated air flow. If anyone is interested in finding a more quiet unit, I've been using a Holmes 756-U for a few years now, and it's been fantastic. Very quiet, 4-speeds, great air flow and filtration, and Holmes customer service is great. The first Holmes filter I had was the 726 unit, and when I kinda broke it while trying to open it up (impossible to do, I think..), I just sent Holmes an email and they right away offered me the 756-U as a free replacement. This was after 3 or so years of using the 726, which is a great warranty and customer service on their part. The only downside to the Holmes units are the cost of filters, which are overpriced.
Very loud
April 29, 2012
Let me start off by saying I won't repeat the tech specs as other reviewers have. This review is strictly from a user's point of view. I have 7 dogs. I have hayfever and asthma. I have central air in the house. That being said, I wanted something to put in our TV room/kitchen area as that's where we "all" are most of the time. I will update this later to let you know if this helped with dog dander, smells etc. Too soon to really tell. It's very loud on high speed. Medium is better, Low is ok -- you can still hear it. You need to place it 3 feet from a wall or furniture. Make sure you have enough room. Not the most attractive thing to have out, but if it reduces the nasty air, so be it.Set up was easy. It has a handle to carry it. Wish it came in another color, as it's very WHITE and sticks out like a sore thumb. Will update in a few weeks to attest to it purification capabilities.

Died way too young
November 18, 2016
I originally bought this in 2011 and it just stopped working about 18 months later. They company replaced it but the replacement just stopped working (after about 2 years of service). Loved the size of the unit (fit easily on a shelf) but I think the product life should be longer. Will be looking for a quieter and more reliable unit.
Its a nice "fan sound/white noise" and helped him sleep
August 9, 2016
I purchased this on October 14 2014 (almost 2 years ago). I am rating this 2 stars because it did work for awhile. It stopped working last month. I was very adamant on cleaning the filter and taking care of it. We used it in the babies room and it helped to drown out his older siblings in the next room. Its a nice "fan sound/white noise" and helped him sleep. It cleaned the air quite well. Its inexpensive compared to other air purifiers but I wished it would have lasted longer. This is the reason for rating it 2 stars.
Lasted 1 year 2 months
May 28, 2013
We bought this when my son was born so we would have background noise to muffle out everything else in his room(clean air was a plus). Well yesterday it took a dive and died, we ran it daily from 6pm-7am everyday without a problem. Yesterday it died no lights/power, checked the outlet and it works fine. The purifier worked great while it lasted but for the price it should last more than a year and two months. I haven't contacted Honeywell yet so I will update when I get around to it.This model does work very well until it dies just FYI for anyone wondering, but its lifespan should be longer for the price.***Edit 7/14****Down to 2 stars since Honeywell doesn't respond to email or their contact us info, and everytime I speak with someone on the phone I either get "disconnected" or told we will call you back.Won't buy another Honeywell product since they dont stand by their products.
Not that durable
June 16, 2012
I wanted to have a really good air filter for my room as it seems to attract a lot of dirt, etc. from outside. I was thinking that if I got this, it would help reduce that (which may help reduce my allergies). I guess that it worked fairly well when it was working. It is a loud machine, though. I would clean it every week to try and make it last as long as possible. Unfortunately, sometime after I got it, it was perpetually having the "check filter" light at the top of the machine. I would clean the filter, but it still wouldn't cooperate at all.The real problem didn't start until a few months after that. It eventually started making a horrible wheeze/buzzing noise that I couldn't stand. I figured that I would attempt to clean it (which is not an easy task) by using a butter knife and a paper towel to try getting some of the dust that had collected on the back part. I tried doing that, but it still did the noise when I would turn it on. I thought that if I left it alone for a week or two that it would work again. It then wouldn't make any noise when I would turn it on. It was now "inoperable". I don't think that I would recommend this to a friend if given the option.Pluses:Permanent filterCheck filter lightCompactRelatively cheapCons:Bright lights on top make it a poor choice for a bedroomNoisyNot durable/long lastingUneasy to clean as dust begins to collect (even with normal operation)As an aside: I live in the desert where it is windy all the time. This may have changed the longevity of the air filter. I kept it indoors and rarely had my door/windows open (outside of trying to enter/exit my house). It may last longer in another environment.
noise vs filtration update
October 3, 2011
Compact size is fine, just right in proximity to my work station BUT motor noise is totally unacceptable, an annoyance! I have a larger floor model Honeywell and that is much quieter than this model. I regret not returning this unit within the period allowable. If you receive one with this "problem", do return it immediately, the noise doesn't subsist.Update:Just received a replacement, Amazon is the greatest. Plugged in, on low, nose is "normal", no motor rattles. I will update this when unit has been running for few hours or so. I like unit's size and footprint. My larger unit, on continuously in bedroom is just fine.Update:Perhaps it's luck of the draw with these units, replacement received from Amazon, running continuously for three days and no motor rattle.
too noisy and not very effective, so far
August 19, 2010
I was going to wait awhile and review after I'd used the product a little longer, but based on my initial impression, I'm pretty disappointed with it. The unit looks fine and seems reasonably sturdy, but it's quite noisy, even at the lowest setting, and the fan emits a shrill whirring sound that does not seem like white noise to me. It's impossible to ignore it. It sounds like an airplane. Maybe the problem for me is it seems to be generating sound at a different frequency from the lower level hum of the air conditioner and computer in the room ( so the various fan noises are not harmonically 'in sync". ) It has a much higher pitch than my last air purifier, which I loved, but was discontinued. I still have that one, but can no longer find filters for it, so I only use it for white noise and as a fan. Worse yet, after using the Honeywell for a few hours (without the ionizer turned on and the door closed), the room actually started to smell terrible. I dont know if this equipment requires a 'break in period' to air out the harsh (chemical/smoke) smell of the filter, but it was a very unpleasant and irritating -- hardly what one wants in an air "purifier"! As for the noise -- on high it is much too loud - on low, I had to turn it off so I could watch tv and then get some sleep. My trusty old (Amcor HEPA tower) filter provided a steady unobtrusive low-pitched hum, a cool breeze, and genuine HEPA filtration and ionizer that made the air feel "good." This unit blows air out of the top, so if you want it to act like a fan with air aimed horizontally , you have to flip it on its side (which , on a positive note, also takes up a bit less room on the end table). Even in that position, though, with the output aimed strategically, it doesn't seem to be circulating much air, especially given the intensity of the fan. I'm willing to give it a try, so will leave it running while away from home today and will see if things improve noticeably. The room air was definitely worse with it on than with it off last night, and while this morning the chemical emissions were less noticeable, the air quality in the room had not improved noticeably. No dust seems to have been collected while the unit was on. I dont know if this is the way they ALL are, if this will improve after a 'break in period', or if this particular unit has a problem, but at this point I can't recommend it and probably will not keep it. To be fair, I'll give it a few days and report back and revise my review if the situation improves.Update: After almost a week I finally opted to return the unit. It made absolutely no difference in the air quality of the small bedroom (though, the noxious smell that emanated from it when I first used it abated after about two days), there was very little air circulating, despite the really loud fan, and no visible dust was collected. It was pretty obvious that this was doing nothing for the quality of the room air and it was so annoying when on, I had to turn it off at night . (I should probably add that I am accustomed to using a filter on the bedside table, but I moved it across the room, and it was still too loud.) I decided to shop for another option rather than just tolerating this one. On the plus side, kudos to Amazon for making the return easy. Their customer service is top notch, and I really appreciate it.Final note, I decided to spend a little more and get a larger unit with a true hepa filter; even though it is approximately 5 x bigger than this one (and nearly 5x as expensive), the fan is very powerful, yet it is much quieter than the little honeywell was. It's not as convenient since it takes up a lot of space, but the air is circulating nicely, it doesn't emit noxious odors when you first turn it on, the dust is collecting impressively, the room air is fresh, and the sound on low is almost inaudible. What a difference! Guess you get what you pay for. For those in the market for something larger, it's a whirlpool whispure AP250 and it's supposed to be good for a room about 320 sq feet.

Good filter with strong odor
August 27, 2017
Here's the problem.... I purchased the unit in March this year (2017) , it sat in the box for a couple of months before I opened the unit and placed it in my bedroom, which had a previous air filter which didn't do much and never seemed to get dirty (filter media). That was a leading brand that was described as an almost hepa filter, pretty unit nice design but didn't really do much. I have some allergies and noticed after running the filter I was sneezing a lot more than when I didn't run the unit. After about a half dozen uses the unit emits an intolerable odor that has some characteristic of solvent and almost a vinegar like cast. I've called kaz several times and they recommended shaking out and vacuuming the pre filter carbon which I did, that helped reduce the sneezing problem but the odor has become even stronger. They told me to open a window and place the unit without the prefilter for a day or so and run max to air out the filter itself. I noticed the plastic horizontal "ribs" around the unit have several areas of a yellowish "drip" on them almost like they were cracked and then glued together.... this was out of the box.... I'm certain the odor doesn't originate int the house or the room, nothing like it occurs except when running this filter... it is a mystery, I'm calling it contamination in the unit when I received it.
Authentic Body Only
April 8, 2015
Honeywell is actually great, mine came and was returned as it had a "replacement filter" in it so it was not NEW as sold. It even had written "replacement filter on the side of filter. The real filter has several layers and is true Hepa. The one that came with this you can hold up to light and see right through the one layer of cheap looking (fako) filter. This was maybe a refurbished model for sure the filter was not real as I have the authentic to compare.I tried ordering replacement filter and got a fake one. Then I ordered this entire "new" Honeywell to get past fake replacements out theret and the alleged "New" in box entire unit arrived and had a fake filter in it so ...go figure!
Works well I am guessing
December 22, 2014
It's very hard to tell if it is outperforming my homemade box fan filter. It definitely pushes more air around and I am hoping it filters out the fine particulates. It had trouble filtering out the smell of smoke from the kitchen/neighbors cigarettes. In combination with the home made filter the air felt really clean.I like it and i feel like it will work better in the long run because the homemade fan filter needs to be replaced every 2 months or so before it is black with junk. Allergies is the same reduction as with the home made filter. The blue LED sucks but is tolerable. It's really hard to write a review about a filter tho. It does what it is supposed to I am guessing. Maybe I should buy a air particulate measuring device...UPDATE:After a few months of using the filter I have decided that a box fan with a filterite filter works better then this device. The prefilter picks up dirt, the Main filter seems clean still. Setting up a new Box Fan Filter and that filter has turned grey because of the dust that this honeywell missed... We still have both running but I would not suggest buying this Honeywell filter and instead look into building a fan filter. Total costs are about the same over the year but the fan filter works better.
Too loud. Amazon Whirlpool Whispure is 104 CFM/dB vs 12 CFM/dB for this unit
June 22, 2014
As a scientist and engineer, I purchased this unit some time ago, and can't use it at night because it is too loud. I have purchased two other units, including the Whirlpool Whispure Air Purifier on Amazon. The link follows: (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00440EKRG/ref=oh_details_o06_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1)For the details, see my review on the Whirlpool unit. The Whirlpool unit on low has a 300 CFM air flow rate and is only 31 dB in my 28 dB background room (you can hear it, but it is very quiet). This Honeywell unit is 52 dB (very loud) on high at 300 CFM. Cutting it to low cuts the flow to 100 CFM, and the noise is still 36 dB, about 5 dB louder than the Whirlpool. Get the Whirlpool unless noise doesn't bother you.
Works well, but bright light and loud.
August 12, 2013
Update: after 4 years of usage the motor went out. I contacted the company and they agreed to send me a new unit, but I first needed to send in the old one. The shipping cost was $90!! I wish the company would have sent me a new one first and I could have used the old box, and that would have saved me some money. More over, they should have covered the shipping. I'm not happy with the warranty coverage.Previous Review: This air purifier is large, and the instructions recommend that the unit to be 3 ft from the walls--which means it takes up a large footprint. It really easy to set-up and run (it took about 5 minutes to unbox it, install the carbon air filter, and turning it on). The air in our bedroom was surprisingly crisp after running it for a few hours. There are a couple things to note.-First, this purifier is loud, even on the quietest setting. In our case, the purifier just replaced the white noise machine my wife use to have. On the loudest setting, it is just a bit quieter than a vacuum cleaner.-Second, it comes with a bright blue light. This light is seriously bright! It lights up the whole room. I've attempted different methods to cover the light, but it is so ridiculously bright. It's so annoying, we have considered returning it for something different.-Lastly, we bought the discounted "opened-box" version. It was totally worth it. The box had been opened, but all the original packaging and manuals were there. If it is an option for you, it is worthwhile.
Great Machine But Some Arrive with Defects
September 28, 2012
Let me start by saying that I ordered 3 of these machines for our home and have been running them for about 2 weeks now. Until now no problem. We run them on high 24-7. Its loud but we like the white noise as it helps the kids sleep and stay sleeping which is always a good thing. :)The problem occurred when I decided to order a 4th machine. It arrived at my office where I turned it on and immediately the room was filled with a fishy plastic type order that was unbearable. After reading a few reviews on Amazon about this problem I decided to return it and requested a replacement. Amazon replaced the machine and the new one arrived today. I set it up in my office turned it on and a slight fishy plastic smell started coming out. I decided to give it a try and left to grab a bite to eat for 20 minutes. When I came back and opened the door I started coughing badly. The room was filled with that smell. 3 other co-workers confirmed the smell as well.I called KAZ the number listed in the packaging materials. They said it was possible that the odor stuck onto some of the machines during manufacturing and they are not sure what it is. He said you can run the machine outdoors for 24-48 hours and it might help clear the smell.I decided to return it a second time and give it one more shot. If a 3rd machine arrives and has the same problem I guess I will have to look for another filter.I only hope that the smell is not toxic as it can affect many people who have compromised immune systems and are trying to breath healthier air. My advise is try and find this machine in store and see if they will match the Amazon price, then before purchasing turn it on and run it inside the store before taking it home.

Super Weak
September 14, 2017
I purchased 2 for the house, and only opened one box to be sure it worked. It's super weak - the air that it pushes out can be heard and felt, but it doesn't seem like it's sucking anything in. I was vacuuming around the purifier while it was on, and when I looked over I could visibly see dust in the air around it but nothing seemed to be pulling it out of the air and into the purifier.I'm returning the unopened one and wish I never purchased it in the first place.
The thing sounded like it was going to shake itself apart
August 31, 2016
I bought this as a "used" air cleaner. As soon as I plugged it in, I found out why! The thing sounded like it was going to shake itself apart! Putting it on low, and with fingers crossed, it stopped sounding like a worn-out stone crusher. Now, after the month of ownership has run its course—and even on "low", it's starting to make "that sound" again. :(My bigger Honeywell HEPA air filer ran without issue for two decades. This smaller model has me thinking that I seem to have rented it!
Not happy and I'm not even sure if it was working
January 23, 2016
You did not explain that the front panel could not be removed multiple time (necessary to clean the filter). It's broken and not yet a year old.Someone should look into this. Why spend $50.00 on something that breaks withing a year? Not happy and I'm not even sure if it was working.
Quality has dropped since the change to a permanent filter
May 9, 2014
At first I was delighted that I wouldn't have to buy more replacement filters. I bought the new air cleaners specifically for that feature. Mistake! While the old models lasted several years of continuous use, these burned out soon after the warranty expired. The Hamilton Beach TrueAir that I bought at the same time is still going strong, so I've bought two more of them. I hope their quality hasn't fallen off as well.

I returned this product. Used this item in an average sized bedroom. I would turn the unit on high for 2-3 hours prior to going to bed and then turn it off when going to bed because even on low speed the noise is loud and not "white noise" as some people put it. The first few times it seemed to make the air fresher but over a period of about 3 weeks the unit started to emit a black dust all over my white console table where it was placed. Then towards the end of the 3 weeks the unit emitted a weird smell. I think the motor eventually burned out as it just stopped working. Did not see much of an air quality benefit from using this product. Honeywell is a good company but just NOT this particular model. I have different Honeywell air purifiers I bought 5 years ago and they are still working well - just NOT this model. Do not recommend this unit.
Had to Return
January 31, 2014
Purchased this model about a year ago for my newborn son's room. We kept it on constantly and recently the unit would not start when we periodically turned it off. It took a while for the fan motor to start and when it did we started to smell plastic burning. We called Kas USA -- return contact in manual -- and they said to return the unit along with $10 to mail back a new one. Unfortunately, it cost us $21 to ship back the broken unit and $10 as they requested, so it was $31 just to have the unit replaced under warranty. Since we were not sure if we would ever receive a new unit and a new one would cost only $15 more, we decided not to send back. Truly not good customer service and policies when their product is defective.

Not happy

Unfortunately threw out th box so can't return. When it came it had a couple deep scratch marks but box wasn't damaged..... that should have been my first clue. On high, there's something clanging around inside the motor that makes an obnoxious sound. So, I can only keepbit on low or medium.

Another Honeywell unit built in MEXICO FAILS!!!!!!!!
March 11, 2016
Usually this unit would receive a much higher rating as I own several of them but the last two are complete garbage. The reason I own so many is because I have allergies and love dogs: enough said. I have units in every main room of my house and some of the units have been running for 5-6 years non-stop. The last two I purchased in July 2015 and the last one November 2015. The one from July just stopped working and needs to be replaced. This unit that I am writing about however is a lightly used unit that is on for only 4-5 hours a day. Tonight it started to make a loud wobble noise and it would appear the main fan housing / bearing has worked its way free of the fan and is making a racket. The unit otherwise is only four months old and in perfect condition. Honeywell seriously needs to sit down with its Mexican plant managers and get quality control back in order. I own 8 units but will not be buying another one after the experience I have had with the last two units. This one will have to be sent back to the factory for repair or replacement. I'm very frustrated!!!!!! Time to build things in AMERICA again. Thanks for nothing Honeywell!!!! Update: 3-31-16 - Both units have been sent back to Helen Of Troy- KAZ Return department. This is the subsidiary of Honeywell that builds these units and handles warranty work and replacements. Both units mentioned above have been shipped back and I am awaiting the arrival of new ones. More issues to mention; While the people are very polite and easy to deal with at KAZ, this is a typical large warehouse organization and the process is like pulling teeth. After receiving your return authorization number, you have to send a letter along with the air cleaner and repack everything. Bad enough that you need to purchased a box, packing peanuts and tape and then spend a half hour doing the packing job but KAZ does not reimburse the consumer for the shipping or any of the packing materials. The total cost to ship the unit back to KAZ plus the cost of shipping materials cost almost as much as the new unit that they are sending. Essentially you receive a five year warranty that is worthless because you are better off spending another $25.00 to $30.00 and going to the store and buying a new unit versus wasting half a day on the phone with the KAZ warranty department plus packing materials, packing the unit and then shipping the unit. Its sad because these use to be the best units on the market and that is why I have 8 of them. The new units however are garbage!!!!!!!!!!!! Save your money and look for air cleaners from other manufacturers. Very Sad Indeed!!!!! Kaz needs to reimburse consumer return shipping costs otherwise the warranty is worth nothing!!!

I'll figure out how to fix the unit if possible but I can not recommend the purchase of a refurbish Honeywell 50250-S
July 8, 2015
Well, I missed the return window and that's on me for not opening the box using it right away. I'll figure out how to fix the unit if possible but I can not recommend the purchase of a refurbish Honeywell 50250-S. From day one it didn't work right. I could trick it in to running by spinning the fan manually to get it moving. I used it 3 times that way and then it stopped working entirely. Read the return policy!

User Overview
  • Kaz vs Lasko

Wow... With the Kaz height at 1292.5 inches, width at 324 inches and length of 423.2 inches, the Lasko with 920.5"X 283.1"X 999.2"... Hope they're unassembled, but still, way too big for my house. I'm still thinking about getting one for the barn, if i can find the space to put it.
