a must have
June 26, 2017
I really like this unit. I use it in my office because of the air quality at work. I was constantly sneezing and coughing with flu like symptoms and this has helped tremendously. I never turn it off except to clean the filter.
Anyother Great Honeywell Product!
August 11, 2016
I think I've had this Honeywell for most of this year and it has not had one problem yet. I read many reviews on different air purifiers before deciding on this one. They all had pretty much the same complaint with the other purifiers. For me, this was just the best solution.First, I've never ever had a problem with a Honeywell product, so I was pretty much sold when I saw this one even after reading reviews for other purifiers. Second, their customer service has always been helpful. Third, I loved the double filtration system this one has.The only problem I have with it, and it's on my end not theirs, it's just a little to small for the room I use it in. I was just guessing how big my room was...now I know that this little one is just a tad bit too small. So when I decide to get a bigger one, this will be moved to another room! I wouldn't stop using this one unless it was really old and just broke one day. That's just how much I like this one.For people who have problems with noises, I hate to break it to you all, most electronics of this type makes some sort of noise. If that bothers you, you could get a bunch of plants or whatever and try that. For me, it's white noise that goes along with the fans I already have blowing in my room. I actually find that all that white noise helps me fall asleep. I've always had that problem, I cannot sleep unless there's something like this in my room. I think it's actually extremely quiet. When it's on and the fans aren't blowing I just don't notice it.The up keep is so easy my cat could probably do it. The first line of defense is a washable filter. It's just that easy. Take it out, wash it thoroughly. You'll probably be a tad grossed out when you do this for the first time. I certainly didn't expect it to be as dirty as it was. So every time I wash it, I kinda get the case of the ickyness. This first filter does do all the heavy lifting before things get to the HEPA filter. I wash it once a week but that's just me wanting to actually preserve the life of my machine. If you wait until about three weeks you'll notice a difference in smell right away. It's just a good habit to get into to make this air purifier keep on working efficiently. You'll see plenty of complaints by other people that theirs breaks (stops working) really fast and I'm will to guess that this is why theirs breaks...they do not clean the filters out properly. One tiny thing more...make sure the filter is completely dry before putting it back in. Mine only takes about 20 minutes or so and it's ready to go again. The HEPA filter cannot be and absolutely should not be washed. It will ruin it. That's pretty much a fact. And I wouldn't go as far as saying it would never need to be replaced. I've taken mine out every time I wash the first filter and it still has a bunch of dust/debris that needs to be either vacuumed out or shaken out. That part only takes a few minutes to do. I do this once a week as well. I would suggest getting at least two extra HEPA filters as a backup. They are inexpensive and it provides a sense of security just in case something does happen to the first HEPA filter it comes with. Again, that's just a recommendation. It helps you out if you don't have time to properly clean the dirty filter. Just pop a newer one in and clean the other one when you have the time to. Just do not EVER wash the HEPA filter and I cannot stress that enough!Overall I give this five stars because it's really earned it. Treat it right and you'll get tons of use out of it. If you have a question or need some advice with your new air purifier, I would be very willing to help out! All you need to do is just ask!
Been a few months and we love it
June 13, 2016
I bought this in Febuary, its now June and I still Love it. The filters are both easy to clean. I bring them out to the garage and blow them clean with the air compresssor about once a week or so. I use it in my office, which is also the smoking room for the house. Keeps the house form smelling like an ashtray. Also helps with dust and pollen. It is LOUD on high, but I only run it on high if theres more than 1 person in there. My only complaint is I wish it came in another colour, white and smoke just don't mix. It does make me clean the exterior at least once a week, So, maybe thats not a bad thing. The money we save not having to buy filters every month is quite a bit, and not having to run out and buy them is priceless.
This Product Cleans the Air
May 9, 2016
I don't have any allergies or respiratory issues that I know of. I bought this because the air in LA can get terrible and I don't want to develop some kind of respiratory issue later on down the road. This particular unit sits in my bedroom and I leave it running throughout the night when I'm at home. I can't honestly tell you if it works or not since I have no symptoms of any kind that need alleviating. However, I can tell you that when I clean it there's a lot of crap it picks up. Cleaning is simple a straightforward. You don't have to be a rocket scientist to perform this cleaning task. However since I am no scientist I can't tell you if you should use the ionizer or not. I looked at some research regarding this online and it seems that it probably best to not run the ionizer indoors.
Great machine
October 10, 2015
I bought one to try for my computer/piano room because I smoke. I liked it so much, I bought a second one for the bedroom. It cleared the air within a half hour. I use the bedroom unit for white noise (instead of a fan) to block outside noises. I have a dog, who barks at every little noise outside. It serves all purposes. Having the green light from the machine on in the bedroom is okay most of the time. I have it on a shelf so it is high enough not to reflect toward the bed. Excellent product.
You can't beat these Air Purifiers!!
August 5, 2015
This air purifier is awesome. We have one in each bedroom, as well as the living room (5 in total). I clean the filters every two weeks and they are almost always full of dust, regardless of the time of year (pollen season or not). We have no pets. The proof is in the before and after pictures. I simply take the filters off and blow them out with an air compressor. They are really easy to clean and work great. We've had no issues with noise.

Great for allergy induced nighttime asthma!
September 12, 2017
My daughter has asthma, which we finally figured out is triggered at night by airborne allergies. She would get congested and have breathing problems at night, often needing her emergency inhaler without much relief. Once she got this air purifier in her bedroom and started running it every night on Turbo, her nighttime asthma attacks went away! This is worth it's weight in gold for her. I would highly recommend trying it if you or someone you love has nighttime asthma issues related to dust, ragweed, or other airborne allergies.
Excellent air filter, VERY quiet on low.
May 9, 2017
We purchased two of these for a larger area (open concept kitchen/dining/living room). We also have two cats and a golden lab and my wife has allergies. Our previous air filters both died after about 10 years.Noise lever is a huge issue for me as I work around fans and equipment all day long. These were selected based on Consumer Reports ratings along with customer reviews on CR and Amazon. We've had them running for two months now and we love them.We ran them on Turbo the first few nights and they are loud. As in no conversation in the room loud. But....the 'germ' mode (low) is fantastic. We can have them both running and they are barely noticeable as far noise level. Our running mode is to put them on 'High' (not Turbo) at night and then either off or 'germ'/low during the day. With the pets, a lot of grandkids that vist, semi-rural property, and wood stove heat, we have a lot of dust, pollen, and animal hair. When you purchase a filter pack, it comes with four pre-filters and three HEPA filters (the unit requires three individual filters). These are roughly projected as needing to be changed every three months and one year respectively. Based on what I see so far I think we'll probably get 2 months for the pre-filters and 9 months for the HEPA filters. I consider that pretty darned good.10/10 would buy again.

Pros:Quiet- whisperEasy to useLight can be dimmedVery pretty (aesthetics)Easy to put together (just unwrap filters and turn on)Light weightCons- none really- great product true heap filter- very inexpensive. You can set it for up to 8 hours on three different levels of filtration. I wish it was up to 12 hours, but it's made a huge difference in my apartment and it's so quiet I love it. The dimmer on the light which can barely be seen to begin with is an added bonus.
Very Highly Recommended - Fantastic HEPA Air Filter at a Bargain Basement price.
March 23, 2016
My chronic allergies and sinusitis have required that I use HEPA air filters in every room of my home. Over the past 20 years I have owned many different units, almost all of them were manufactured by Honeywell. While all had the same basic functions and worked quite well, this unit is by far the best and quietest air filter that I have ever owned. Consumer Reports rates this air filter very high and with good reason, because it's the best and most affordable unit on the market to date. The unit is very simple and offers double filtration, the extra thick charcoal filter is first, followed by the extra thick HEPA filter. The air is pulled in from the front of the unit where it goes through both filters and then comes out from an air grate on the top of the unit just behind the controls. This makes it a great space saver that can be placed almost anywhere, especially against a wall. There are 4 levels of filtration, #1) GERM, #2) GENERAL CLEAN #3) ALLERGEN and #4) TURBO.The 1st level GERM is virtually silent, I've never owned an air filter that is this quiet - it is the perfect level to use while watching a movie. #2) is a pleasant white noise that is barely audible and offers a great amount of filtration. The 3rd and 4th levels offer superior air flow and are so much quieter than my other Honeywell filters. While I still own multiple Honeywell filters and use them daily throughout my home, I will be replacing them with this unit as my budget allows. In searching for this air filter I looked very closely at comparable units priced as high as $600.- I was searching for an air filter that offered great filtration, but was also quiet so I could use it daily in my home theater room. After looking at almost 20 different units and brands in the $200-$600 price range, checking Consumer Reports as well as the Amazon consumer feedback I was won over by this Honeywell unit because of the price, the basic method of filtration, the very cool control panel, the fact that I could place the unit against a wall, the convenient size of the unit, and finally my positive experience over the past 20 years with Honeywell products. In the end I am very pleased with my purchase and would highly recommend this unit. One final note, the ability to turn the blue light off on the control panel is a welcome upgrade over my other Honeywell units. Thank you Honeywell & Amazon!
Great for the office.
October 12, 2015
I have serious allergies. Spend a lot of time in my 14 x 20 office and of late had started to get serious allergic reaction - possibly due to my two cats and three dogs. This is a monstrous HEPA Filter. I have it on my desk right next to a couple computers and it circulates the air just fine. I can feel the difference. When I spend a good saturday morning or pull an all-nighter in the office, I dont have the same symptoms anymore. I have also begun to keep my office door closed to keep the cats and dogs out of late, but again - I've tried that before as well. This is a great unit which has a full-size carbon filter and three air filters that encompass the entire front of the unit. It blows air out of the top. So far, I have no complaints. I might get a couple for the living rooms as the built in air-conditioning filter can only go so far. I did purchase an extra carbon filter and a 3pk filter set which I'm told need to be replaced every 6 months. Will know more this winter. Not the quietest if you are running it in turbo mode or in allergen mode. But it has 4 modes in total and the first or second will suffice if you want to run it all the time.
Tried Several Purifiers-This is the one for me. Why?...Finally found the type R filters in a box of 3 filter.
February 26, 2015
HUGE problem buying correct filters. I ordered the filters they said I was suppose to order. This machine takes 3 hepa filters- I only got 2, type R This forces you to buy 2 boxes -total $80.. They did NOT last a year. Mine only lasted 3 months. $$$$.This is a keeper. I have tried several clean air purifiers. I expected to have noise as you would with any machine, but the Large Round Honeywell Pure Hepa sounded like a jet engine. I couldn't turn it on high- really loud. Why have anything if I couldn't use to it's highest capability? This machine is quite & great.I wanted to stick with a well known brand that had filters at a good price. I bought the Honeywell 300 through Amazon. The description says it covers 465 sq ft.. It does keep the air fresh and less dust in my 750 sq ft great room- it just takes a little longer to circulate the air. Some clean air machines must be put 2-3 feet away from a wall. This Honeywell can be placed against the wall. This was a huge plus for me, because of space. I am very happy with the Honeywell 300. No more sinus, watery eyes ,or other problems and much less dust. I can barely hear it on low, medium still has a low sound. (especially compared to the big round Honeywell jet engine). Turbo is the loudest and puts out the most air. Be aware the Honeywell goes by two different names: the Honeywell 300 and The Honeywell Allergen....same machine, two names! They have the same model and ISBN number. The Honeywell 300 is my keeper. Prime/Amazon. NOTE: Another company sells this Honeywell on Amazon, same machine, different name. I wanted to make my purchase through Amazon.UPDATE: 5/13/15. The filters do did not last one year. I need the 3 heap filters. I am having a problem finding the real Honeywell filters (not the cheap "knock-off" brands". I ordered more filters, but it says only 2 come in the pack. This machine takes 3 filters. I should get these within 24 hours. I will up-date then & we will see if they are the thinner cheap filters and if I get all 3 filters required. Still, it did work great -till now.Update: I should have updated this sooner. No more problem finding the 3 filters in one box. The new real Honeywell filters are great. I got all three- exactly as I needed. Very happy with this machine.

Still working after 5 years!
October 9, 2017
Wow, I bought 3 of these 5 years ago! They are still running and working fine as far as I can tell. I like that you don't have to replace the hepa filters but I think it may be time anyway. How can they last forever? To clean this machine I take out and vacuum and sometimes wask the outer filter and vacuum the hepa filter and the interior of the case where it sits. These serve two purposes for us - white noise and filtration. I need the white noise and these have a fair level of soothing noise depending on the setting. Great for the money, Did just buy a GermGuardian to try out though for a more problematic area - the basement. I would buy these again though.
powerful little air cleaner with washable filter!
October 3, 2016
Excellent little unit I purchased some years back and still going strong! I like how easy it is to tuck somewhere and filter the dust in my room. The washable filter is a bonus since I do not need to purchase new filters! Sometimes I even place an air freshener near by to circulate around my room. I have some allergies to dust and pollen (especially come spring) and this has made a noticeable difference in my quality of life while at home.If you are looking for a small unit without the hassle of having to replace filters and are on a budget, this is the unit for you. I would say it seems a bit loud, even on low but it does not bother me while I sleep.
Same noise as window air conditioner but effective air purifier
December 5, 2015
Does the job. The noise does get to me at times, about the same as a window air conditioner, but if it's between the noise and breathing, I'll put in earplugs, LOL. Rather large room, about 300 SF with 12 foot ceilings, and it keeps out the neighbors' cigarette smoke and woodsmoke from neighborhood wood stoves and fireplaces. I have reactive airway disease and unlike some folks, find that the ionizer helps rather than hurts. It is on a separate switch, and the fan has high medium and low (or high and low). I started out with it beside my bed, thinking it wouldn't be all that effective. I actually breathe fine now with the purifier (and the noise) across the room.Best product in the price range in my opinion, and I'm a "professional breather", having had many such devices through the years. Anything to kee us off steroids. Give it a try.
Good filter for a small room.
February 5, 2014
We wanted an air purifier for our bedroom and this one had a small enough footprint. As recommended by the enclosed instructions, we left this on 24hours a day. We also liked the fact that the purifier doubled as white noise while operating. This little unit sure does filter a lot of dust. The filter cleaning reminder is nice and you just have to vacuum out all the dust from the filter and mesh. However, literally one year after purchase, the little motor started making a whining noise, then finally quit working 1 day after my year was up. I thought I'd have to buy another one to replace it, but then I saw I had a 3 year warranty while browsing here to buy another one. I called up Kaz to get a replacement and it was very simple. The CS rep was quick to give me a RMA # and an address to ship the broken unit to. I had to pay shipping for my broken unit, but it's better than paying for a brand new one.A couple of weeks later, I received a brand new replacement from Kaz. I would've given this filter 5 stars if it hadn't broken within its warranty period and honestly, I have a feeling I'm going to have to get a replacement in another year... We'll see, but Kaz truly stands behind their products and I have no issues buying another Kaz product again (we have a couple of Honeywell products along with this one).
Good for the price
October 13, 2013
I'm using this air filter in a small (11x12) bedroom, and it seems to do a decent job of catching the dust. The primary filter was quite dirty the first time I cleaned it out after a couple months of nightly use. The secondary filter does not appear to be too dirty yet, but that can be a little difficult to determine unless it is very dirty. I have yet to use the ionizer; I hear conflicting reports on the effectiveness / safety of those devices. It is a bit on the noisy side though. If you like some white noise in the background, especially to help you sleep, this filter provides a comfortable white noise. I like it, but I know some folks don't. The noise increases considerably from the first setting to the second and third. The reason I haven't given it a higher rating is that the white noise has acquired a rhythmic or pulsing sound recently. It used to have a very consistent "soft static" type sound which I found very relaxing and good audio camouflage for urban noise. The sound has recently changed to a pulsing static sound which is pretty distracting. I've been able to get rid of it by switching between speed setting one and two, although that doesn't always work. Last night I tried a highly technical troubleshoot - I just picked the filter up and dropped it a few inches onto the shelf it sits on. That seemed to solve the sound irregularity for the moment.
Excellent Value
March 23, 2013
I would have easily given this product the fifth star, but for the fact that it's a bit noisier than I'd expected. However, its relatively low cost as a whole room air purifier, plus having a permanent HEPA filter and a built-in ionizer than can be turned on or off make this a winner in my books. It's light-weight and fits nicely on a portable TV tray stand. Best of all, it works. Having 4 rather large house dogs obviously leaves ALOT of pet dander and dust in the air. In one week's time my allergies have markedly improved. Hope this review is helpful. :)Yours for more informed shopping,Dennis

Quality build, not too loud, 4 different fan settings, Expensive filters.
December 17, 2016
Pros:Easy to set upNot too loud. Sounds like a small fan is on in the room. I like white noise like that.Circulates air efficiently.Filters air very well.Cons:Expensive air filters (only reason why I took 1 star off the total)Other Comments:The biggest thing I was looking for in an air filter is how much space it would cover. I have a 20'x20' living room with 9' ceilings connected to a kitchen roughly the same size. This keeps the entire 1500 square feet of my upstairs clean.I ran it downstairs where I am doing demolition and BOY does it clean the air up fast when I have it on Turbo. Left it on overnight and it worked like a charm. I can already see the layers of dust in the carbon filter.Sound wise in correspondence with fan speed:Low ( They call it the "Germ" setting ) - sounds like an average fan on lowMedium ( They call it "General Clean" setting) - sounds like a fan on mediumHigh (They call it "Allergen" setting) - starting to get a little loud. Definitely cannot watch a movie in the same room with it onTurbo (They call it "TURBO") - What? What did you say? Oh God! It's sucking everything in!

It seems like they are working but I wanted to wait a little bit more to see if I can tell. But my son says that his little one for his room - which is the same Honeywell but the smaller version on it.The only thing that I don't like is it is so loud. You have to keep it on this high if you have allergies. The rest of the settings are for general cleaning. There are 3 settings and if your using it like I have to then your using the highest setting which is loud. The replacement filters are very expensive also.I did ask out allergist about hepa air purifiers and she stated that you don't need to spend over $100.00 for an air purifier as they should do the same thing and work the same way but just make sure you get on that has a hepa in it.
Filters air quickly and effectively
June 12, 2016
Filters air quickly and effectively. Filer replacement cost is expensive, but expect to only change filters one time a year. A true HEPA system, that creates a noticeable difference in any room it is placed. Extremely quiet operation on lowest setting, Turbo mode is fast and effective for air cleaning, with a bit more noise than desirable. Dimmer setting is greatly appreciated for light elimination. Easy to understand and use controls allow operation even in the dark with little effort.

May 19, 2016
The Honeywell True HEPA Allergen Remover met my expectations. People have complained about the front panel falling off. I have moved this purifier throughout my whole house several times a day in order to purify the whole house. 98% of the time. It never comes off. When it does, all I do is push the little two buttons and is back in place. Over the last month and a half I have ran the unit for between four and 12 hours a day. The filters appeared to be collecting dirt, dust, and are living up to expectations. I live in a forced air furnace house so dust is constantly blown around the house. The unit has reduced the amount. Once I turned my forced air furnace in the next two weeks. The real test will be do I see any dust in the air. The fan on the unit is somewhat loud on turbo. On the lowest setting, it is quieter than my furnace. It will be interesting this summer to use the unit along with my central air-conditioning. I'm expecting it to complement the air conditioner in moving the air throughout the house and house actually been cooler and more comfortable and cheaper to cool than in prior years. That test is still to come.
the best Noisy best friend
January 8, 2016
This item was exactly what I wanted. I am tempted to buy a second unit in the future for my lower level. I am not a big fan of switching the filters so often, but that is something i can get used to. I wish the different functions had separate buttons for because the unit seems big enough to accommodate this--however it is alright. My most favorite option is the timer. I have an older and smaller Honeywell HEPA and It is wonderful when you do not want to remember to turn it off at a later time or only want it on for a short period of time. My boyfriend and I who are both allergic to our pets agree that we started feeling better about air quality quickly. I also did not have a bad odor issue that some people previously mentioned. The noise is pretty loud, but if it gets the job done, I am not complaining! It also becomes white-noise after you train yourself to think "oh it's just the machine".

Heartbreaker!!
July 13, 2016
Got this on May 1st fell in love with it, I could finally breathe until it died July 5th a little over two months, sad to say my shortest love affair... I have been stuffed up and having constant headache ever since if died.. The noise was very calming for me even on high. Now am back online seeking better love, this one left me hopelessly crying 😪
my allergy symptoms were relieved and I was able to breathe easily at night
November 29, 2015
Having used this air purifier 24/7, I must specify the challenge of cleaning the unit. Replacing the filters was a hassle since the plastic are flimsy and likely to break. The motor and fans are inaccessible since these components are SEALED so they can not be cleared of debris. the air purifier produced a lot of noise on all three fan speeds. The ionizer is also noisy since it buzzes when the feature is activated. However, my allergy symptoms were relieved and I was able to breathe easily at night. I would recommend this product if the noise is not an issue.
Cleans air but the noise level is a problem
December 1, 2013
This product has become a huge disappointment to me due to the noise factor. I've been using one of the units in my bedroom for the past 6 months. (It is strictly a one-room unit.) It has done a good job purifying the air. I've noticed considerably less dust in the room, and experienced fewer dust allergies as a result. But the noise level has become unbearable in spite of my efforts to keep the filters clean. Even on the lowest setting, the noise has become unbearable. It interferes with my sleep. If I turn it off overnight, I wake up with stuffy sinuses. I bought two of these units, and experienced the same noise problems with both, and the noise issue gets worse and worse over time. If I could return it, I would. As is, I will be moving it to the basement and looking for a quieter unit. This air purifier is fine for a room not frequently used, like a basement or guest room. But it is far too loud for a living space.
Not what I'd hoped for.
November 19, 2013
I bought this unit to use in a small office space that's 9' x 14'. A ceiling fan in the space keeps the air circulating at all times. I own several other larger HEPA air cleaners, as I suffer from allergies. While I thought I might be pushing it to get this unit to cover the entire size of my office, I decided to try it anyway.First, the unit is noisy when it operates on high, and at lower speeds it doesn't circulate enough air to be useful for me. == I have to turn it off ever time the telephone rings; else conversation is impossible. It does include an ozone generator, which I find does help mask or eliminate odors. The HEPA filter is permanent, although it can be removed for cleaning. The pre-fiter is a foam pad that must be removed from time-to-time for cleaning, and the HEPA filter can be vacuumed although not washed.Basically, the unit just isn't powerful enough to me, not enough to clean what I consider a small room, unless the room's door is closed and has been running for some time. Given enough time to recirculate the air, it does work. In a very small, enclosed space where noise levels are not an issue, I think this would be an excellent choice.
Never thought I would need an air filter in addition to plants!
November 13, 2013
Just received it yesterday 11/12 it is 11/13 today.Never thought I would need an air filter in addition to plants! But the air quality was killing our plants. I always have an issue with instructions included for most products I buy leaving out details. This left out the one of the filters is still covered in plastic. Hubby came home and was unsure if the sound would allow him to sleep comfortably. At first plug in I thought it was louder than what I consider quiet. So I went back on Amazon went through the reviews alittle more and found someone touched on the same complaint/concern as hubby/I; his or her findings were very helpful. Directed me to check the filters one was still completely enclosed in plastic once removed sound decreased significantly.Once adjustment was made; a few hours later I asked Hubby to turn his bed side light on. Prior to having air filter; bed side light would reveal a snow storm of dust in the room. After a few hours of the adjustment; a very noticeably difference in the snow storm of dust.I had chosen to turn on high with ionizer during daytime hours then low during sleep hour. Intend to keep you posted stay tuned!
It does a great job, but it is cheap.

I live in Seattle in an old apartment building that had some mold issues during the winter. During the spring and summer we get hit with all kinds of allergens, and for the rest of the year we have lots of dust due to low air circulation.I first picked one of these up for work, and I noticed a difference in the air quality after the first day. I was convinced of this unit actually filtering the air, and the ionizer actually helping with dust issues. The room at work is about 12'x'12'x12' and you can feel the air moving, and it feels less heavy from dust and other particles. However, after purchasing a second device for my home, I was a bit disappointed with the quality of the device. Within a week, the knob to control the power quit working on the lowest setting, so I am stuck with the high or medium settings. It still registers that the device is "on" and the ionizer light is on, but when on the lowest setting, no air is moved. On the high and medium setting, this air purifier works great and I would recommend it for that reason - it does its job, and it does it well. Due to the cheap craftsmanship though, I will no being giving this device a 5 star rating.

Only issue I have is now that I went to product tag to make sure I buy the right replacement filter I see HPA200...Fool me once...Paid for 300...seems for 2 months its been a 200 all along. Im sure was just a packaging mistake in China but...double check what data plate says (do not trust the box or just by looks).
nice machine, crappy front cover
September 13, 2016
nice machine, works well. The front cover sucks, for the price Honeywell should be ashamed of their engineering people. The cover falls off all of the time, I now have tape on a brand new machine. Would have given 5+ stars if the cover was worth a darn.

Work well ,but the replacement filters are $30 a piece. Not cheap, one of the units I bought has 3 filters. Fan noise on high for the allergen feature is loud.
its okay
May 27, 2016
The door is very loose, My filter buttons don't work at all. The timer buttons barely work. I didn't notice this until I needed to use those specific functions. It has cleared the air in our home as we live in a 2 story house, and my upstairs neighbors all smoke. It seeps through the vents and walls and I am allergic. Doesn't completely eliminate it but it does a thorough job. Foods that have a potent smell? Same. It does an ok job doesn't completely clear it up.
Like original manufacturer pre-filters? You'll have to trim them yourselves...
November 12, 2015
I needed a second air purifier, and was deciding between buying another Whispure 510 and buying the Honeywell. I have some buyers remorse because Honeywell does NOT sell pre-cut pre-filters. In an effort to save money, Honeywell created a "universal" pre filter that you have to fit and trim yourself. Maybe not a big deal for many people, but it's an annoyance for me.There is one Amazon seller that has pre-cut pre-filters, but they're pricey. If I had to do this over again, I'd buy another Whispure.

April 20, 2015
Though it removed most large floating carpet fiber, it still hasn't removed the smaller fibers floating in the air.It is a bit noisy in allergen or turbo mode. Could see the air being pulled in to the filter using the flash light during night time. However, also see the outcoming air still has carpet fibers. Though it has three regular + one odor filter (which need to be changed every 3 months or less depending upon usage) it still doesn't filter 1mm long Carpet fiber dust floating in the air. It doesn't have static filter to attract such floating allergens and no UVA features. Like the touch sensitive simple interface.

Died way too young
November 18, 2016
I originally bought this in 2011 and it just stopped working about 18 months later. They company replaced it but the replacement just stopped working (after about 2 years of service). Loved the size of the unit (fit easily on a shelf) but I think the product life should be longer. Will be looking for a quieter and more reliable unit.
Its a nice "fan sound/white noise" and helped him sleep
August 9, 2016
I purchased this on October 14 2014 (almost 2 years ago). I am rating this 2 stars because it did work for awhile. It stopped working last month. I was very adamant on cleaning the filter and taking care of it. We used it in the babies room and it helped to drown out his older siblings in the next room. Its a nice "fan sound/white noise" and helped him sleep. It cleaned the air quite well. Its inexpensive compared to other air purifiers but I wished it would have lasted longer. This is the reason for rating it 2 stars.
Lasted 1 year 2 months
May 28, 2013
We bought this when my son was born so we would have background noise to muffle out everything else in his room(clean air was a plus). Well yesterday it took a dive and died, we ran it daily from 6pm-7am everyday without a problem. Yesterday it died no lights/power, checked the outlet and it works fine. The purifier worked great while it lasted but for the price it should last more than a year and two months. I haven't contacted Honeywell yet so I will update when I get around to it.This model does work very well until it dies just FYI for anyone wondering, but its lifespan should be longer for the price.***Edit 7/14****Down to 2 stars since Honeywell doesn't respond to email or their contact us info, and everytime I speak with someone on the phone I either get "disconnected" or told we will call you back.Won't buy another Honeywell product since they dont stand by their products.
Not that durable
June 16, 2012
I wanted to have a really good air filter for my room as it seems to attract a lot of dirt, etc. from outside. I was thinking that if I got this, it would help reduce that (which may help reduce my allergies). I guess that it worked fairly well when it was working. It is a loud machine, though. I would clean it every week to try and make it last as long as possible. Unfortunately, sometime after I got it, it was perpetually having the "check filter" light at the top of the machine. I would clean the filter, but it still wouldn't cooperate at all.The real problem didn't start until a few months after that. It eventually started making a horrible wheeze/buzzing noise that I couldn't stand. I figured that I would attempt to clean it (which is not an easy task) by using a butter knife and a paper towel to try getting some of the dust that had collected on the back part. I tried doing that, but it still did the noise when I would turn it on. I thought that if I left it alone for a week or two that it would work again. It then wouldn't make any noise when I would turn it on. It was now "inoperable". I don't think that I would recommend this to a friend if given the option.Pluses:Permanent filterCheck filter lightCompactRelatively cheapCons:Bright lights on top make it a poor choice for a bedroomNoisyNot durable/long lastingUneasy to clean as dust begins to collect (even with normal operation)As an aside: I live in the desert where it is windy all the time. This may have changed the longevity of the air filter. I kept it indoors and rarely had my door/windows open (outside of trying to enter/exit my house). It may last longer in another environment.
noise vs filtration update
October 3, 2011
Compact size is fine, just right in proximity to my work station BUT motor noise is totally unacceptable, an annoyance! I have a larger floor model Honeywell and that is much quieter than this model. I regret not returning this unit within the period allowable. If you receive one with this "problem", do return it immediately, the noise doesn't subsist.Update:Just received a replacement, Amazon is the greatest. Plugged in, on low, nose is "normal", no motor rattles. I will update this when unit has been running for few hours or so. I like unit's size and footprint. My larger unit, on continuously in bedroom is just fine.Update:Perhaps it's luck of the draw with these units, replacement received from Amazon, running continuously for three days and no motor rattle.
too noisy and not very effective, so far
August 19, 2010
I was going to wait awhile and review after I'd used the product a little longer, but based on my initial impression, I'm pretty disappointed with it. The unit looks fine and seems reasonably sturdy, but it's quite noisy, even at the lowest setting, and the fan emits a shrill whirring sound that does not seem like white noise to me. It's impossible to ignore it. It sounds like an airplane. Maybe the problem for me is it seems to be generating sound at a different frequency from the lower level hum of the air conditioner and computer in the room ( so the various fan noises are not harmonically 'in sync". ) It has a much higher pitch than my last air purifier, which I loved, but was discontinued. I still have that one, but can no longer find filters for it, so I only use it for white noise and as a fan. Worse yet, after using the Honeywell for a few hours (without the ionizer turned on and the door closed), the room actually started to smell terrible. I dont know if this equipment requires a 'break in period' to air out the harsh (chemical/smoke) smell of the filter, but it was a very unpleasant and irritating -- hardly what one wants in an air "purifier"! As for the noise -- on high it is much too loud - on low, I had to turn it off so I could watch tv and then get some sleep. My trusty old (Amcor HEPA tower) filter provided a steady unobtrusive low-pitched hum, a cool breeze, and genuine HEPA filtration and ionizer that made the air feel "good." This unit blows air out of the top, so if you want it to act like a fan with air aimed horizontally , you have to flip it on its side (which , on a positive note, also takes up a bit less room on the end table). Even in that position, though, with the output aimed strategically, it doesn't seem to be circulating much air, especially given the intensity of the fan. I'm willing to give it a try, so will leave it running while away from home today and will see if things improve noticeably. The room air was definitely worse with it on than with it off last night, and while this morning the chemical emissions were less noticeable, the air quality in the room had not improved noticeably. No dust seems to have been collected while the unit was on. I dont know if this is the way they ALL are, if this will improve after a 'break in period', or if this particular unit has a problem, but at this point I can't recommend it and probably will not keep it. To be fair, I'll give it a few days and report back and revise my review if the situation improves.Update: After almost a week I finally opted to return the unit. It made absolutely no difference in the air quality of the small bedroom (though, the noxious smell that emanated from it when I first used it abated after about two days), there was very little air circulating, despite the really loud fan, and no visible dust was collected. It was pretty obvious that this was doing nothing for the quality of the room air and it was so annoying when on, I had to turn it off at night . (I should probably add that I am accustomed to using a filter on the bedside table, but I moved it across the room, and it was still too loud.) I decided to shop for another option rather than just tolerating this one. On the plus side, kudos to Amazon for making the return easy. Their customer service is top notch, and I really appreciate it.Final note, I decided to spend a little more and get a larger unit with a true hepa filter; even though it is approximately 5 x bigger than this one (and nearly 5x as expensive), the fan is very powerful, yet it is much quieter than the little honeywell was. It's not as convenient since it takes up a lot of space, but the air is circulating nicely, it doesn't emit noxious odors when you first turn it on, the dust is collecting impressively, the room air is fresh, and the sound on low is almost inaudible. What a difference! Guess you get what you pay for. For those in the market for something larger, it's a whirlpool whispure AP250 and it's supposed to be good for a room about 320 sq feet.

Very loud, high pitch whine, poor construction quality and pricey filters.
March 19, 2017
Despite the glowing recommendation from Consumer Reports, this unit is very loud. And not just white noise loud. There's a particular high pitched whine that I can only describe as being analogous to coil whine in electronics. Unlike white noise (which I personally find soothing), the high pitched noise emitted by the Honeywell purifier is intermittent, which makes it very distracting, especially if you are sensitive to noise or just have good hearing. I could hear the purifier whine all the way in my kitchen which is at the opposite side of my two bedroom apartment of 750 sq. feet. This was only on the medium setting. High and Turbo settings don't really change the high pitched whine, they only increase the sound of the fan, which is the regular white noise we're all familiar with. That being said, High and Turbo are loud enough that sleeping in the same room as the air purifier would prove to be challenging to most. The other downside is the number of filters. This purifier uses 3 HEPA filters, each of which is quite expensive. While you can opt for a filter pack on Amazon as an option, the pack only contains two filters, leaving you to source a third or buy another two pack.Lastly, the construction itself leaves a lot to be desired. Rough plastic molding marks are visible all over and the front cover is very fragile and can be removed inadvertently with even the slightest pressure.Probably the sole positive of this air purifier is that it does not produce ozone. Ozone is a lung irritant and can be poisonous in (very) large quantities. Ionizers are found on most air purifiers today and help to neutralize smells, but can irritate the lungs of people with asthma who might be purchasing an air purifier with the exact opposite intention. Still, I don't think the absence of a feature, good or bad, make up for the other issues plaguing this air purifier.

The 300 sq feet version is great however this larger version was just too loud. It emitted a high pitched mechanical noise.Returned this for the Whirlpool Whispure 510 which has been perfect.
Doesn't help our allergies.
May 7, 2015
Doesn't seem to be helping with our allergies. It is too loud to run all the time for allergy control, and although it picks up a lot of stuff in the prefilter we don't feel any relief when using it at lowest speed 24/7. Planning to buy an ALEN from the ALEN direct web site. Cannot return this one because over 60 days old. Should have read the return policy closer.
Good concept but poorly made
March 20, 2015
This HEPA device does work but the housing is poorly made. The parts do not fit together properly. The replacement pre-filters are expensive and cheaply made. You have to cut them to size. They are worth a tenth of the price paid. This is a case of a good product design that so cheaply manufactured it is not worth the purchase price.

the sound is too loud. The latch is crap. the rest works so far. But for the price i expected a better fabricated product.

Super Weak
September 14, 2017
I purchased 2 for the house, and only opened one box to be sure it worked. It's super weak - the air that it pushes out can be heard and felt, but it doesn't seem like it's sucking anything in. I was vacuuming around the purifier while it was on, and when I looked over I could visibly see dust in the air around it but nothing seemed to be pulling it out of the air and into the purifier.I'm returning the unopened one and wish I never purchased it in the first place.
The thing sounded like it was going to shake itself apart
August 31, 2016
I bought this as a "used" air cleaner. As soon as I plugged it in, I found out why! The thing sounded like it was going to shake itself apart! Putting it on low, and with fingers crossed, it stopped sounding like a worn-out stone crusher. Now, after the month of ownership has run its course—and even on "low", it's starting to make "that sound" again. :(My bigger Honeywell HEPA air filer ran without issue for two decades. This smaller model has me thinking that I seem to have rented it!
Not happy and I'm not even sure if it was working
January 23, 2016
You did not explain that the front panel could not be removed multiple time (necessary to clean the filter). It's broken and not yet a year old.Someone should look into this. Why spend $50.00 on something that breaks withing a year? Not happy and I'm not even sure if it was working.
Quality has dropped since the change to a permanent filter
May 9, 2014
At first I was delighted that I wouldn't have to buy more replacement filters. I bought the new air cleaners specifically for that feature. Mistake! While the old models lasted several years of continuous use, these burned out soon after the warranty expired. The Hamilton Beach TrueAir that I bought at the same time is still going strong, so I've bought two more of them. I hope their quality hasn't fallen off as well.

I returned this product. Used this item in an average sized bedroom. I would turn the unit on high for 2-3 hours prior to going to bed and then turn it off when going to bed because even on low speed the noise is loud and not "white noise" as some people put it. The first few times it seemed to make the air fresher but over a period of about 3 weeks the unit started to emit a black dust all over my white console table where it was placed. Then towards the end of the 3 weeks the unit emitted a weird smell. I think the motor eventually burned out as it just stopped working. Did not see much of an air quality benefit from using this product. Honeywell is a good company but just NOT this particular model. I have different Honeywell air purifiers I bought 5 years ago and they are still working well - just NOT this model. Do not recommend this unit.
Had to Return
January 31, 2014
Purchased this model about a year ago for my newborn son's room. We kept it on constantly and recently the unit would not start when we periodically turned it off. It took a while for the fan motor to start and when it did we started to smell plastic burning. We called Kas USA -- return contact in manual -- and they said to return the unit along with $10 to mail back a new one. Unfortunately, it cost us $21 to ship back the broken unit and $10 as they requested, so it was $31 just to have the unit replaced under warranty. Since we were not sure if we would ever receive a new unit and a new one would cost only $15 more, we decided not to send back. Truly not good customer service and policies when their product is defective.

I had high hopes for this air purifier but it didn't work for me
September 25, 2017
I bought this item bc my neighbors smoke alot and the smells were seeping into my apartment. The product is lightweight and thats abt the only good thing I can say abt it. There are 3 filters and one carbon pre filter which are expensive IMO to replace. It is a little loud on the highest setting but i wouldn't have minded all of this if it actually did what i needed it to. The plastic was taken off the filters etc. and the sq. footage that it covered was sufficient. After leaving it on all day I would come home to the same smokey smell so i felt like it was a waste of money to keep. I had high hopes for this air purifier but it didn't work for me. Still looking!

This product is supposed to be for people with allergies. Yet its overpowering plastic smell was so strong after running for an hour, we had to take it outside the house. It caused nose and throat irritation, burning eyes and a severe headache. Amazon gave us credit for its return - thank you Amazon. The Honeywell 62500 we were replacing never had this problem. Although it is over 10 years old, we replaced its Hepa filter and will continue using it instead.
Disappointed

Thought the room would smell fresher, it's run non-stop since the day I turned it on.

  • Kaz vs Lasko

Wow... With the Kaz height at 1292.5 inches, width at 324 inches and length of 423.2 inches, the Lasko with 920.5"X 283.1"X 999.2"... Hope they're unassembled, but still, way too big for my house. I'm still thinking about getting one for the barn, if i can find the space to put it.
