Had item shipped to my son's home when I went there to visit. Did a fantastic job around my son's three cats. I'm allergic to cats. Didn't get my usual reaction and was able to get by without an asthma attack. I will be getting another one to use at my house.

The Holmes HEPA Type Desktop Air Purifier works great. I have a black glass desk that would have a layer of dust a few hours after I clean it which was usually every day as it would build up that fast. With this air purifier the amount of dust residue left on my desk is virtually zero. Awesome product. I leave it on medium so it sounds like a basic stand up fan. Not loud but certainly not super quiet. It uses 2 included filters. First one is a HEPA filter that traps 99% of typical airborne particles. There is a filter change indicator to let you know when its time to change the hepa type filter. It's available on Amazon and is this exact one: Holmes AER1 HEPA Type Total Air Filter, HAPF30AT4-U4R. Holmes provides a color diagram on how dark the filter should be before changing it which is advised every 3-4 months. The second filter is an activated carbon filter which removes odors/dust. The exact black filter that I buy and cut to fit myself is this one: 'All-Filter CP-6005 Cut To Fit Carbon Pad for Air Purifiers' sold here on Amazon. (I've reviewed that product as well if interested.) The carbon filter is placed right in the front near the vents and can be cleaned to remove the thick dust that gets pulled in. I remove it by opening the front vent cover, wash with soap and water. let dry, then replace. Very easy. I do replace it after washing it once or twice.

Allergies haven't been giving me trouble since I bought this. They had me up every night with an itching and stuffy nose, coughing, etc. No more waking up in the middle of the night...I can sleep peacefully again. It's not too loud at night, gives white noise off that personally helps me sleep better. Set it on a night stand so it's not too big either. I just move the unit where I need it. So convenient as some air purifiers are bulky and too heavy to move frequently like I do. Definitely would recommend this to anyone who wants to clean their air, for allergies sufferers, dust buildup issues, or has limited space but doesn't want to spend a ton of money on an air purifier. At approximately $30 you can't go wrong!

We bought this for my daughters room to run at night. It seems it helps with some congestion she would wake up with, and the room also seems "fresher" if that's possible. We are happy with this purchase and would recommend this for a small room.

I live in a very small pre-war Manhattan apartment, my bedroom is about 2 feet larger than my Full size Bed. This purifier somehow manages to negate the sound, smell and debris from the Satanic year-round-radiator. It keeps the air moving in the room which helps to cool it, I think. The whitenoise is very soothing compared to the NYC siren symphony. It's small and can sit either on the (small) window sill or on a shelf above my bed- so about the size of a wide shoe box. I don't use the ionizer much but that's purely based on the amazon reviews noting extra electricity usage. I guess I'll update this after the first month's electric bill.

The air in my room feels cleaner and crisper when this purifier is on so I'd recommend this to anyone with a small, stuffy room.

Compact, efficient, and cheap, this air purifer does a good job at cleaning the air for a small room. For the price, you really can't go wrong. It is one of the most highly rated air purifers at this price for a reason.

It does a very good job at cleaning the air for my 12 x 10 room. It always smells fresh when I walk in and it feels like I can breathe easier when I walk in.

My only complaint is that it is a little loud on medium, and quite loud on high. Low is very quiet, and medium is tolerable, but high is very loud, and would be unaccpetable to be in the same room for a long time with it. Most people wouldnt use this on high anyway though, as placing this on high also reduces its efficiency.

Overall I would recommend this to a friend, but don't forget you're going to have to pay for replacement filters down the road too.

Wonderful air purifier/fan! I use it to treat a ~100 square foot space and it handles it well. It reduces odors much better than I thought it would and having 5 different fan speeds gives you a lot of flexibility. Filters are easy to replace, the timer function is intuitive and useful, and the UV bulb is a great addition. The only complaint I have is that the blue indicator light that is illuminated when the UV bulb is on is rather bright, but I covered it with electrical tape so it's not a problem anymore.

We are really enjoying these air purifiers. My daughter is allergic to dust mites and had been struggling with an allergic cough. We placed one of the three air purifiers we had purchased in her room. My daughters coughing during the night immediately improved since using this product. I would highly recommend it and would purchase it again

Gorgeous and out of the way! Very easy to find a spot for these... I have THREE of them throughout the house... The first thing I noticed is that you can't hear this thing on 1 setting so you can leave it on all night. Second - the room smell. The air is crystal clear... I can't believe I didn't do this sooner because our house was built in the 1960's - one story - and always had that "musty" smell. NOW THE SMELL IS GONE!

I bought this becuase I have seasonal allergies. We also have a chihuahua in the house. Since I have had the Germ gaurd in the bedroom all of my allergies have gone. I also like the fact that it has a UV light which is good for flu season. The noise from the fan is not bad at all and I have no problem sleeping with it on at night. I usually rest a pillow on the display at night to darken the room. I do not use the UV light at night becuase it is too bright. I wish there was a light gaurd on it so I could have the UV light on at night. Overall though, very satisfied with my purchase.

A couple months ago I moved into a new house and every morning I kept waking up with a stuffy nose and headache. I tried fans and allergy meds but after about a week or so of terrible sleep I did some research and found this product. Once it arrived I was noticeably better in a day and completely clear within two!I've had it about a month now and I run it pretty constantly on a medium setting, though to be honest there isn't that much difference in the first 4 fan speeds. The last speed is about the same sound level as a blow-dryer so not much chance of sleeping through it.The filter is very easy to clean and has 3 distinct layers. The outer layer is just a thin piece of a similar filter mesh to what is used in aquarium pumps, basically just to catch the big stuff and it's attached to the main filter using velcro. The next 2 are all one piece with the hepa filter and a paper thin cloth-like filter covering it. To clean, just pop the cover off, remove the outer filter and rinse it off in the sink. The inner filter you just have to run a vacuum over and hopefully this will increase the life. Leave the outer filter off until completely dry otherwise you risk damaging/plugging up the inner filter.The UV light seems kinda gimmicky to me; I've left it on for a week then off for a week and noticed no difference whatsoever. Now I just leave it off all the time because it's just a little too bright to sleep with.Other reviewers have mentioned it, but the air does blow out of the unit at an angle instead of straight as you'd expect but it doesn't cause any problems.Overall a great product that does exactly what it says: cleans the air.

I got this cause I thought there may be mold in the air in my old old house ( built 1890) since we been here a year in this house there have been no problems but the wife recently started getting hives/ breaking out in rash and what i read was this could kill moldy air and i also thought maybe it could clear up anything else in the air that may be irritating her skin. She has Asthma but never had a problem/ asthma attack so i am sure our dust levels are low, we have 2 dogs that have access to back yard through doggy door so they going in and out ALL day and bringing in dirt, bugs and if its raining.... they got wet dog smell they bring inside. With that said.... our house is vacuumed constantly and cleaned regularly so there really is never a long term bad smell in our house ( or we just used to it hahaha) . So i plugged this thing in downstairs and turned it up to level 5 and turned on the light to kill anything it can that gets cycled through it. As some reviews say there is a smell... my unit had zero initial running smell/ odor about it. I came downstairs and could tell the air was a little fresher but didn't really pay to much attention to it. I Then moved it into our bedroom so it could clean up/ kill anything bad in there we couldn't see, smell, taste, feel etc.. so i turned it on high and closed the door. I returned a couple hours later to get something out of the room and as soon as i walked in I felt the lightest, cleanest , best smelling tasting feeling air ever! So much of a huge noticeable improvement, I told the wife to check it out in case i was over reacting and she was blown away how fresh the air was. If your looking to clear stale air, odors, dusty air etc.... this will do the job. $ I got the unit for $150 and I was questioning spending that much, especially since it takes replacement filters every 6-8 months opposed to just cleaning the blades off like other air cleaners, but i think its the Hepa filter that needs replacing. Either way, I was skeptical at spending the money and I always do mega research to make sure its not cheaper somewhere else, if this model is really better then others etc. etc. etc. and I couldn't be happier. The lightest air I ever breathed! I just stand in the room taking full deep breaths of air cause it smells so fresh and clean and clear and light..... its so unbelievable to me. Next is to move it back downstairs and let it run a few days and clean that big area up. The bedroom cleaned up in hours.... the downstairs is so large it will probably take longer.

I am very happy with this product. I received the delivery in two days. It is light light weight and portable. It has three speeds for the fan use and it has a button for the for the filter use for on or off. It does what its suppose to do at my office desk filter smoke and dust. It runs smoothly and the noise is at a minimum when on. I use it just about every day. I been using it for over a month. The filter will be ready for change sometime in February. I definitely would recommend this product to others.

My sons tag-teamed to break their Dohm sound machine, and as I was looking on Amazon for a replacement I came across this one. Several people complained about how loud it was, and at least one review said they use it as a sound machine in their kid's room, so I thought it would be great to get a sound machine and air purifier in one... and for much less than getting a new Dohm machine.

First, this was much bigger than I'd expected! That's my fault for not reading the description more closely, but still I was surprised. We take the kids' sound machines with us whenever we travel, and this is much less convenient to throw in a bag than the Dohm ones.

As an air purifier, I'm quite happy with it so far. The boys' room used to smell like... well like a boys' room. And it isn't well-ventilated so it was also always stuffy in there, but after having this in their room for a week and only running it during nap time and at night, the room smells noticeably fresher.

As a noise machine, I'm a tiny bit disappointed. Even on the highest setting, it isn't nearly as loud as the Dohm. All in all, though, I'm pretty happy with it.

We have had this air purifier for 2 years and it is still going strong. It started to make a rattling sound about 1.5 years after being used all day every day. I took the air purifier outside and used a compressed gas electronics duster (canned air) in all of the crevices. This eliminated the noise and it has been gone ever since!
There is a noticeable difference in our allergies at night. I used to wake up with an itchy throat and runny nose, but this purifier has helped significantly reduce that.

That comes out to about $4 a month is you replace the filter ever 3 months. Great deal for a purifier that works and lasts!

The unit has worked well so far, and seems to keep the air in my office of about 75sq ft. clean. It has a box-type HEPA filter with charcoal, as well as a pre-filter directly behind the grey grille on the front of the unit. The ionizer can be turned off or on, and used independently of the fan, and the unit has three fan settings. The "high" fan setting is somewhat loud, but the directions say it's only for short duration use if the room is very dusty. I use it on this setting all the time, however, as I don't mind the noise much. The medium and low settings are very quite.

I am fairly new to seasonal allergies; I've developed reactions to pollen, dust, mold, and certain grasses over the last couple of years and have been searching for non-medicinal ways to alleviate my symptoms. I also have been suffering noise-related sleeplessness due to living in a close-quarters apartment complex. I bought this Holmes air purifier for use in my bedroom overnight as both an air filter and as white noise to cover the neighbors' blasting TV. On the high setting, it works better than any fan I have tried for white noise; it has a nice, even sound without sleep-disturbing hitches, ticks, or rattles. The high setting is loud but I'm happy with that because so are my neighbors. For when I want less noise, the medium and low settings are disproportionately quiet compared with the loud high setting. They, too, have a nice even sound and the low setting is barely a whisper.

As an air filter... we don't use it to its full capacity so our results are not the best they could be. Instead of running all day and all night as recommended, we put it on an hour or two before bedtime and leave it on all night with the door closed. We also choose not to use the ion technology since it produces ozone, a proven lung irritant even in small amounts (the fact that the ion feature was able to be turned on or off was actually a selling point for us). In the manner in which we use the machine, I have noticed a decrease in sinus congestion in the morning and my fiancé says its easier for him to clear out his congestion when he blows his nose. I think if we ran the machine constantly day and night, we'd notice more of a difference.

The unit itself is compact and lightweight and made of acceptable but not exceptional materials. The slide-style on-off-select-speed switch is potentially problematic; there is no click or groove to indicate each setting and you just have to listen to the fan to determine if you're on the setting you were aiming for. The front "grille" pops off and there is a flexible pre-filter just sort of sitting there in front of the HEPA style main filter, which has a spot it fits into. You have to tip the unit up on end to get the pre-filter to stay lined up properly while popping the face plate back on but that's no biggie. Especially since the machine is designed to either lay down as pictured or stand up so that it's grille is pointing upward. The overall design is simplistic and modest and won't take over your whole room.

In our situation, this air purifier has been worth the money just for the white noise alone... I can finally sleep at night! The fact that we get some allergy relief is a bonus. I recommend it for nighttime relieve of mild allergies and as effective white noise.

I've had the germ guardian in my bedroom for a few weeks now. The air feels lighter, smells more fresh and I feel that I am sleeping better. I purchased this for my room because I have a cat and dog that can't seem to sleep anywhere but my bedroom. I am considering purchasing another for the living room.

Use the UV if you really want to get rid of cat smell. I use it in an enclosed 20x10 space with litter box and cat food and it definitely helps. I wanted the smell to go away entirely, but I'll settle for significant improvement.

I now have three of these units in my home. My wife is allergic to all kinds of "stuff". I am pleased with the performance of this unit and it has helped to reduce allergy issues in my house, BUT I have had one defect...The unit performs well. Sound levels are acceptable at higher speeds and very quiet at lower speeds. I have one unit in my family room, one in the upstairs loft, and one in the master bedroom. I used a Sharper Image Ionic Breeze for nearly twenty years (yes 20 YEARS). It had UV, but was not well shielded which ment I had to keep the unit away from the kids. The wife also had problems if the unit was producing too much ozone (..in the master bedroom). These towers do a good job of shielding the UV light with no ozone.The unit is well designed and quality built, but it is the UV light that I had the defect with. The very first unit burned out it's UV bulb in less than a week. I returned the unit without issues and got a replacement. I decided I would let it run for a bit to see if the second unit had similar problems, it did not. So now I have three...**UPDATE: 2-3 months in now and I have 2 more units with burnt out UV bulbs. These bulbs are $31 each. If these bulbs burn out at this rate there's no way I can afford to keep these units around. Also, forget the six month life cycle on the HEPA filter.. Mine got completely clogged in 2-3 months. Not huge because it shows how well the filters are working in my home, but these filters are starting to look like a very expensive maintenance item. So just be aware that long term, this units will cost you $$$. Dropped the rating due to these issues...***LAST UPDATE: I finally figured out the UV bulb problem. Two of my units kept blowing UV bulbs constantly (I almost gave up on this thing), BUT 1 never blew its bulb. I started to wonder why and realized that this particular unit was plugged into a power block with a surge protector. I decided to add surge protectors to my other two units, so I purchased and installed a Minuteman MMS110 Surge Protector from Amazon on each unit. I haven't had any UV issues since, and it's been several months now. Sooo, it appears these units are very sensitive to power spikes. If you're having similar issues, try a surge protector! Going back to 4 stars!

seems to work well. Hard to tell how the allergies would be without it . I'd really have to have two or even three to cover our living and bedroom area. Both rooms are rather large. The blue light would be a problem in the bedroom I think, but it's no big deal in the livingroom--right by the bedroom door. It is reasonably quiet. I don't know what to compare it to. We keep it on 24/7.We vacuumed the filter once after a month--it wasn't really dirty at all. But, our "cottage" isn't dusty and our one cat isn't a heavy shedder.I could have given it 5 stars since it does everything--I'd give it 5 stars if my allergies totally disappeared the day after we turned it on, but I've still had some, though not any terrible attacks since we've gotten it.

I bought one, then another, and will buy more after I get approval from the boss (my wife). This is an excellent and efficient item that really made a big difference and air purification. It also completely removed the 'old house' smell that I had after purchasing my home recently.Only draw back is the replacement filter cost...plan on spending $40 every 6-9 months to replace the filter. In between filter replacement, I use a vacuum to clear some of the bigger lint caught on the charcoal filter but I would absolutely recommend you stick with the recommended filter replacement schedule. When I pulled the original out, it was a dark, dark grey....

I run this constantly in the basement where we have two litter boxes for two very "productive" young cats. When I started to use it the air did seem fresher, and I really noticed the difference when we were gone and left it off all weekend!The illuminated display is easy to read and understand, and the controls are straightforward. The fan has 5 speed levels; on the lowest one you can hardly hear it, and it's not even very noticeable on medium speed. The unlit flat touch-buttons are for power, fan speed, UV on/off, and an optional 1-8 hour timer (after which it turns off). There's also a recessed reset button for the filter reminder (it's easy to remove and replace the filter).I measured the power usage with my little Belkin power meter - with fan on max and UV on, it's 63 watts; with fan on the lowest setting and UV off it's 33 watts. So running it all the time shouldn't be too costly.When the UV light is on a blue strip around the top lights up, and there's a slight odor of ozone (which I don't find unpleasant, but which might not be healthy to breathe all day - but that's what kills the germs). If you look into the front grill at just the right angle, you can see a little bit of the bluish UV light (probably not a good idea to stare at it for long).The only negative is that for the first 2-3 days, there was an odor kind of like a combination of a blown-out match and a plastic chemical smell. But since it didn't really smell like melting electrical parts, I waited it out and it went away eventually.And as others have mentioned, the air it blows out goes off mostly to one side, not straight out. But that's not a big deal for me since it's just sitting in the middle of the room.P.S. Now that I've had it for a while I'm still very happy with it and it's working fine. I did notice one minor issue which may be a bigger deal for some people - if the power is lost while it's running, it'll stay shut off even when power is restored - you have to press the on/off button to start it up again.UPDATE: UV LIGHT LIFETIMEThis isn't in the instructions... after about 9 months the UV icon on the display started to blink. I contacted the manufacturer and they told me this means it's time to replace the UV light tube. Apparently even though the light is still visible inside the unit, over time it loses effectiveness, and I did notice less of an ozone odor by then. I haven't replaced the tube yet, but you can stop the blinking by holding down the UV button for 5 seconds.

It is louder than I expected and though the filter looks like a carbon filter, it absolutely does not perform like one but what do you expect from a filter produced in China. Does nothing at all for odors.

I ordered a generic replacement filter made in the USA from Nextron Products (available on Amazon and eBay) that is supposed to have 6-8 times more carbon than the brand name filters (made in China). I think with the generic filter from Nextron Products, the only remaining negative would be that the unit is not very quiet. I'll update my review once I've installed the replacement filter.

So this is loud. Not white noise. Not a hum. It's just loud. That said it also works. Maybe a girl can't have it all but I value it's efficiency over the noise. It's compact and great for bookshelf or desk setup. At this price, I win.

I bought this for my spare bedroom where I have my cats litter box and his food. I keep it about 2ft away from the litterbox. It does help with the stale air but doesn't do much for eliminating odors. I leave it running 24/7 on medium speed. I've notice a slight difference but not enough for me to buy this model again. Another thing is the bland egg shell color. I'm sure if you left it in sunlight it would turn yellow. It does move the air and helps freshen up the empty room. For the price I paid I can't really complain.

very good quiet one, it is work very good here in Alaska.....but sometimes I have no idea if it is the motor that gets hot after 24 hours usage , so I have to turn it off due that smells very little bit of the little fan motor in it that gets hot I guess....who know's how long will last the filter that came with it.?

Pretty loud (on low) for a small room that purifiers the air. But I have nothing to compare it too, as I've never had one. There is no way I would be in my office and have this thing on high speed. It would drown out everything else. The fan switch is difficult to slide back and forth. But otherwise, it seems to work ok.

The one I got was defective but amazon did a full refund including shipping so they get some stars for the service. I did not repurchase so I don't know how well the actual product functions tho I will say the defective one had an odor and it also had mercury in it so you can't dispose of it in a normal garbage can. So if you don't want to deal if/when this thing gives out, then I'd say don't buy it.

Louder than I would have thought. About the same sound as a fan on medium. We use it as a white noise maker in our infants room because of this. For some reason, setting 3-4 seem to move more air than 5. Maybe its just me. FYI, the air will be moving past the UV too quickly for it to actually do anything. We leave it off because there wasn't an option to buy one without the UV. Have only notice a slight improvement in air quality, but I'm sure its doing something.

It worked GREAT at getting rid of odors for the first couple of weeks, but after that it hasn't been as effective and I have to change out the charcoal filter every month, which can get expensive. It's better than nothing though for sure!

great at keeping the air clean, but within a few weeks, the plastic layer over the power/intensity buttons has bubbled - not sure why. has not impacted function otherwise.

It works great I've had it for a year now and I haven't had a single problem, I bought it thinking it will give me some air and cool down my room a little bit specially at nights but I was disappointed when I put it work it only blows air from one side of the grill and it is not very powerful even on its highest setting, also very loud, but it is an air purifier not a fan or a cooling tower. If you are looking for something to keep you cool in the summer or at night then this is definitely not what you want

It's sleek and quiet. I like the multiple levels that it provides. However, my husband will not leave it on for over an hour at a time, because he says it stinks and irritates his nose. I admit it does emit a slight metallic odor when the UV is running. If it were up to me I would leave it run all day, because of the service of cleaning & purifying the air, and the odor really doesn't bother me.Because I can't run it the way I think it should be, I gave it only a three star rating. So now I have a product that I have purchased and that I like, but still can't benefit from it. Any suggestions??

I tried giving this a shot and I am honestly very unsatisfied. I do not notice a difference even after leaving the product on on high for a few hours in a small room. Maybe I has hoping for more than I should have

CAUTION! We bought 2 of these and at first liked them. After using one in the bedroom and one in the computer room, my wife developed severe eye allergies to the baking soda and whatever else is used in the filters. Her eyes became red, itchy, and were inflamed and 'gritty' feeling. After three very expensive trips to the eye Dr., over several weeks, and getting no relief for her eyes, she was asked if she had introduced anything different into the home. We remembered that her eye problems started after we bought the Holmes HEPA Desktop Air Purifiers. I immediately put them both in the basement tied up in a plastic bag. After 24 hours of not using these Holmes air purifiers, her eyes were clear and all eye allergy symptoms were gone. This product may work great for some people, but I issue this as a warning for people who are extremely sensitive to chemicals or additives. Baking soda is a strong alkali and can cause burning and irritation in some people. Our older air purifiers that don't have baking soda in the filters don't affect her eyes. UNFORTUNATELY, IT TOOK US SO LONG TO DISCOVER THAT MY WIFE WAS ALLERGIC TO THE HOLMES FILTERS, THAT WE WERE PAST THE DATE WHEN WE COULD
RETURN THEM TO AMAZON.

The unit seems to operate fine, thogh I have no way to tell how effective it is. It's made for a small room, i.e. bedroom or office, however, it makes a rattling noise at the lowest fan setting that is very distracting. The medium and high settings are simply too loud to use if you intend on trying to sleep or work. Thus, I will be giving this one away to goodwill once the filter is exhausted.

Noisy, even on low speed, still see a dust in the air after weeks of running all day with little collected on the filters. now that's winter my place is sealed all up. Maybe more is better in this case.

This Holmes Hepa Desktop Air Purifier HAP242-UC, was purchased by me to get rid of the dust accumulating in my bedroom. But it not help me solve my problem - not a bit. I really wasted my money on it. So, be ware.

I waited 6 months to write this review hoping that things would have gotten better but I've just been disappointed. There was a weird odor for the first few days just as some reported but that did go away. I ordered this product to help with all the dust that would accumulate and I have two dogs that sleep in my bedroom. I still have to use my swiffer duster almost every week and haven't noticed any changes to the odor of dog that still lingers in my bedroom or noticed any difference to the air quality. I did change the filter once during these 6 months and did noticed a lot of dust but wonder if a cheaper model air purifier would have collected the same amount. I basically see it as an expensive fan. I am considering buying a second unit to see if that will help but will wait for a sale before deciding.

Bought 3. UV light bulb burned out in all 3 within 3-4 months

after faithfully using it for almost two weeks, I noticed no appreciable improvement in my bedroom's air

Worked well for 4 months but now have to send for repair. Expected better initial longevity.

The item was shipped quickly but the item I received I'm sure was a returned item for the wrapping was off and the cord tie was not around the power cord,but the worst is the burning smell it emites a burning plastic smell, it stinks pert bad, shipping it back......

I searched many reviews before purchasing & this one had so many positives. For my experience, I found it lacking. First, when assembling, it said to take filter out of package, on mine the filter was not only not in a package, it was already in machine. The filter didn't appear new to me. And this model was supposed to have a different filter for the pet part, so to speak. It did not, it had the cheaper model filter. Which one wouldn't know if they didn't see a picture. Why pay for higher model for pet if only difference is the filter & it comes with cheaper one & looks used? Also huge thing I didn't like is the air flow. There is barely any. It blows out of one side only. I knew this before purchasing from reading reviews. Although I did expect the only blowing side to blow air. Even on highest setting, it doesn't put out much. Amd if noise is a factor, beware.....on High, it sounds like a airplane taking off. Every speed is somewhat loud except lowest & no air flow so that doesn't work well. For the positive, very sleek looking machine. But if light borhers you any, the blue light on this one goes all the way around the top & is very bright. It didn't bother me, but I feel it might to alot of people. So with that said, I sent mine back. I did order another model from this company. It is the 4 in 1 Model AC5350BCA & I believe it to be a newer Model. I love it. Good air flow, both sides. Also machine looks sleek. Hope this helps.

I purchased this unit about 3 months ago. Somewhat disappointed as I have not seen a change in the amount of dust that accumulates. My recommendation is to go with a higher priced item.

This device is terrible. I leave it running all day and it doesn't collect a single amount of dust in my STUDIO. Buy something else.

Motor has already burned out. Barely 30 days old and far less use.

UPDATE 08/10/15- so I bought another one because 1 of of 3 was great. I exchanged one, kept the other (I have 2 now) even though the replacement still didn't work right. Just bought another one thinking I would maybe get one like the first one- ONE THAT WORKS AND IS NEW??- instead I got an obvious return by another customer, it smelled and looked used so I have sent it back for a refund. Will not buy these again.

Love this machine! Buy with the good filter and you will be amazed! I have 2 in my room, no smells, no sneezes, awesome! I gave it 4 stars because one was faulty, sent back and got sent another one that the fan still makes a noise like it's not working right. The first one was made right and doesn't make hardly any noise. The other 2 fans sound like they will burn out quicker and I can't leave the 2nd one on at night but all in all for the price, good buy! Although I am disappointed with the 2nd and 3rd, works so good I am still getting another one...hopefully I won't have to return it!

Bought this and am sadly sending it back. Cheap buttons feel like they are going to break off when changing speeds.
Unit is VERY loud compared to a small Kenmore one I was replacing. Purchased it to put near our cats favorite window and litter box can't stand the hair and dust. Did not work as I had hoped not enough air flow in the unit to keep the dust away sitting less than 2 feet away on high. Needless to say I have owned many air cleaners over the years 8 actually guess I'm sticking with the small Kenmore 83244 model with the hard to find expensive filters for that room.

Missed the return window or else I would return it in heart beat. Too many flaws -1. You can't use this with WiFi smart plugs - Through WiFi Plugs, you can set timers to turn this on and off at your convenience or let Alexa do it. Since it has it's own On/Off switch, it will not work with any WiFi smart plugs. Much required as you can put timers so that it turns on before you are coming back to home from work.2. Carbon filter - doesn't do any thing. No change in air odor for my basement. I still have dusty odor even after cleaning basement completely and hence I had got this one. Got 1 inline fan with carbon filter and that took care of it. Total cost for that one was 200$ which includes HEPA filter + Carbon filter. This didn't do anything. Please don't waste any money on this for removing smoke or dust or mold smell.3. Large dust particles where sitting on top of the panel. If it was really cleaning how that particle existed over 48 hrs period of continuous run time.4. CADR rating is 125 and it would take super long time to clean your room and before it does, new air would increase PPM again. Not worth using.5. UV-C light is marketing gimmick. Doesn't do anything really.Please don't fall in trap of reviews.

Stopped working after about two months for no obvious reason. I don't recommend it.

This purifier is an absolute hunk of junk. I ran it for literally one hour before the control panel stopped working. All I could do was turn it on and off, no setting controls, no nothing. I'm in the process of returning it. I suggest you stay away from this machine!!

This product has a strange smell to it that I could not over come

Last night while my 10 year old son was in his room and it was running on high, he said he heard a loud pop and then smelled something burning. I went upstairs and immediately unplugged the unit. It really smelled bad. At first I thought it was the motor, but after I took it apart I found out it was on one of the control boards on the top of the unit, a resistor burnt. It also melted part of the circuit board.I have also submitted a report to the CPSC. I'm concerned that this could happen to others and they may not be home to unplug their unit and then it could end up possibly catching fire. The unit I have was ordered in September 2014 and it has a Mfg code of 1415A and serial number 1404008182.

Makes too much noise.I had to send it back.
