Five Star Reviews: | 49% This machine is awesome. I make tortillas all the time now August 10, 2017 This machine is awesome. I make tortillas all the time now. We use it to make quesadillas a lot and parbake with this and melt cheese in a pan. It is easy to use and I am glad I chose one that cooks as well as flatten the dough. Awesome!! Where has this been all my life! January 29, 2016 This machine is incredible! I have no idea why there are any complaints. It could be how or what they are using it for. Let me explain what I bought it for. I love homemade tortillas but cannot roll them into a circle to save my life. You cannot use a regular press like the one for corn tortillas, it simply will not work. The dough just will not expand and the dough just shrinks right back up. So, I bought this to try out. OMG!!! It is so awesome. I plug it in, wait about 3-4 minutes, roll a ball of tortilla dough in my hand, place it in the machine and press down firmly for 2 second, pick it up and press it again for 2 seconds and BAM, perfect ROUND tortilla. This thing will make them small or to the entire diameter, all depends on how many times and how hard you push. I just make the shape by pressing down twice then take it out and put the tortilla on my cast iron griddle to complete the cooking. DO NOT HESITATE, BUY THIS THING!!!! The reason it WORKS is because it uses the moisture in the tortilla and it "steam presses" the tortilla into the perfect round shape. It only takes 4 seconds. You CAN leave the tortilla on the cooker and it will cook it to a golden brown. I just like the cast iron because I am old school. If you leave it in the cooker to finish cooking, it will make your tortillas crispy the longer it is in there. Almost like a quesadilla. If I could give this 10 stars I would. Trust me, if you roll tortillas now and hate it, this will change your life. Home made tortillas are NO LONGER a pain to make. I even make a bunch of dough and refrigerate whatever I don't use that day. I can put cold dough in the press and have the exact same results. Awesome! November 7, 2015 After using a couple of times, we have perfected our flour tortillas! This was one of our best countertop appliance purchase.s. We can make a dozen fresh tortillas in just 30 minutes! Fresh tortillas at a fraction of the cost of a package of tortillas from any grocery store! This is the BEST tortilla press May 25, 2015 This is the BEST tortilla press. It heats quickly, is durable and heavy duty, and stays hot through pressing all your tortilla dough. I do not bake the tortillas on it because I like to use a cast iron griddle. Besides buying this for myself, I also purchased this as a gift for someone, who also thinks this is the best product. If you're looking for a tortilla press, I say this is the one. I love this product. We use it for Chapatis/Roti and Arepas. July 9, 2014 Use it for making whole wheat chapatis from fresh-ground flour. We use a bread machine to knead the dough for 10 minutes and then let it condition for 30 minutes. Roll into 2" balls, squash them in the press. Flip the chapati end to end after maybe 30 seconds to cook both sides evenly. Then pull it out and finish with a gas flame if you like it to puff up big and steam-cook from the inside. Puffing up seems mostly to be a matter of water ratio. We use 2 cups of wheat berries to 1 cup of water, add 2 TBSP olive oil and a heaping teaspoon of Crazy Salt. You get a soft dough. Fair warning: this type of chapati/roti can be addictive. If you're doing arepas, don't squash them a lot. The dual cooking surfaces pull moisture out of doughs quickly, and make them thinner. The lower surface heats up to around 375 F, the upper surface is always 50-60 degrees cooler. (Measured with Fluke Instruments infrared temperature gun.) I ignore the warnings to heat up the unit only in the open position, because A) it heats up more evenly when closed, and B) the non-stick coating is unaffected because C) the internal thermostat regulates the temperature whether the unit is open or closed. That said, you should ALWAYS follow the Owners Manual and NEVER EVER heat up the unit closed unless you are A) confident in your own common sense and also have a temperature gun to confirm my reasoning and make a decision for yourself.I think the biggest safety/convenience feature they could add would be a buzzer that sounded every 10 minutes or so, because it is NOT HARD to leave this unit plugged in accidentally (Kinda' like waffle irons, infrared space heaters etc...) Is it really dangerous to leave it plugged in? No. Is it an expensive waste of electricity? Definitely!By the way, the non-stick surface is good. If dribs or drabs of gooey stuff sticks, just let it cook a bit longer, and it will dry up and slide off. Then again, we've been careful not to use excessive oil or other things that are known to be aggressively sticky. Great Machine April 17, 2014 Great machine!!! I use it 3-4 times a week and perfect tortillas every time. I also make pizza crusts, pancakes and crepes. You have to get the recipe and technique right for tortillas but once you do it is easy. Love having a freezer full of bean burritos for a quick lunch. | 22% A great new product April 28, 2013 I have been using it serveral times a week. It works wonderfully. If it last and keeps working it will be far one of my best purchases. It saves money making tacos myself. The price for 8 to 10 tacos purchased from the store 2.50. I make 10 for under a dollar. Best part I know the ingredients and can pronounce them. |
Four Star Reviews: | 11% Do NOT use this to cook your flour tortillas. ... September 30, 2017 Do NOT use this to cook your flour tortillas. But as a previous reviewer stated, press and release a couple of times for just a couple of seconds to get them flat, THEN cook in a pan or with it open. Otherwise, it gets gross and crispy. If you want a crispy tortilla, then cook it completely in this. Otherwise, use this to flatten and initiate the cooking process so it doesn't shrink. I love it it works great the only problem I wish ... May 23, 2016 I love it it works great the only problem I wish the tempeture can be control, other than that works great. Great Flour tortilla maker May 7, 2014 It does better than one i bought in Mexico because it makes a bigger tortilla. You must let this machine heat up well and then it turns (automatically) off when too hot. I love it!! I am purchasing another for my mom, she will def use it more than me..... I recommend this machine very well. My mom who is a true Mexican woman with all the old traditions loved it. Just what I needed February 4, 2014 It works as I had hoped, and sure beats rolling out flatbread dough by hand. I make gluten free sourdough tortillas (flatbreads) with it so that my family can have more nutritious and less expensive "bread" than the gluten free fluff from the store. It does take practice to get the right technique and you do need a wetter dough than you might think to get nice tortillas. It's okay January 28, 2014 This is a nice tortilla press. It flattens out the tortillas well. I haven't found a recipe I like which is my problem! The tortilla maker is fine. It doesn't cook them the same as if you were using a flat iron on a stove. It gives them a more overall brown top. So they are a bit crispier. The dough does not stick to the iron so it's easy to move the dough around to cook it evenly. It was kind of a high priced gadget. I'm not sure I'd buy it again, but it's nice to have for homemade tortillas. Great Machine December 21, 2013 This is a well built machine, heats realtively quick, but didn't know making fresh tortillas was so tricky. After placing raw dough onto unit there are so many air bubbles in the gough that need to be released every few seconds (or the tortilla explodes into bits) so it takes a whole lot longer to cook a single tortilla (no fault of the machine, just the cooking process) that I had expected. However the unit works really well to heat store bought tortillas, making quesidillas and believe it or not, I use it to make the best scrambled egg (1-egg) in about 20-seconds. It's a machine, but tortillas from scratch are just aren't as quick as I had hoped. | 8% ... for making chappathi(indian roti) and it made it so easy to mk chappathi and stick to a low carb July 1, 2016 I purchased this product for making chappathi(indian roti) and it made it so easy to mk chappathi and stick to a low carb, veg diet to seriously shed some lbs..its easy to mix the dough because u just have to mix it loosly just enough to hold it together and it ll flatten more easily esp with a lil bit of coconut oil. The heat on high mk it fast cooking in a minute.so i love thus far...def recommend for the price. |
Three Star Reviews: | 8% Takes some practice to get the tortillas to come out ... September 18, 2016 Takes some practice to get the tortillas to come out the right thickness and cooked right. I probably won't be using it much. Overpriced! January 28, 2016 Doesn't make tortillas thin enough and have to finish in cast iron anyway. Presses then and preps them well... Still Beats rolling by hand. It just warms the tortillas, I don't know the ... June 29, 2015 It just warms the tortillas, I don't know the difference between the ones already made and the fresh ones that require to be warm/cooked. I am going to give this away. Not for Roti January 29, 2014 I bought this for my boyfriend for making Roti but it flattens too much and so you don't get the air pockets and flakiness that you want in roti. Probably great and easy for tortillas but we just don't eat them. | 5% Roti. maker with heat control works well . I got frustrated with the instructions because they are not detailed. September 26, 2017 The instructions are not given for Roti making. I got frustrated and wanted to return it. The original manufacturer,s address and phone are not included. I learned the hard way by trial and error. It is easy to make Roti . Three Stars July 11, 2014 I couldn't get it hot enough to cook my tortilla right but I use it for a press. Does not heat enough to cook rotis... February 2, 2011 This item arrived on time.so happy with seller :-).works great to press tortillas or rotis but you can't cook them on it.I use this product to press rotis and cook them on nonstick pan. |
Two Star Reviews: | 10% We bought it to make some Rotis and Chapatis. ... September 17, 2016 We bought it to make some Rotis and Chapatis. It worked fairly OK but then the pressing handle came off. There's no place you can take it for fixing. So for a $80 PRODUCT the quality is not very good Frustrating May 30, 2016 The press makes tortillas like Swiss cheese. I tried corn and flour. I ended up making them in a manual press (which worked perfectly) then cooked them on the electric press. No matter what I did the electric press just made a mess of the dough. I found the quality of the product really good but depends what are you planning to make November 21, 2014 I bought it to make roti's(indian breads) . I found the quality of the product really good but depends what are you planning to make. If its for tortilla's, you may not find the best product than this. But I wanted to make rotii's and I was disaapointed with the heat levels being too low to be able to make chapati's. It turned out to be a very good press but making chapati's is not good. It takes a sec to flatten the ball easily and it takes forever to make roti and then you cannot make them and keep as they will be hard and dry as they were cooked over low heat for a long time. | 13% Two Stars January 15, 2016 Definitely not for making rotis... though the title says so. We are returning ours. Doesnt make roti's as described. January 11, 2016 Doesnt make roti's as described. Tried with moist dough as well but rotis become very hard if we try to bake them properly May be good or tortillas but for indian roti this is not ... December 3, 2015 The plates don't heat very well. May be good or tortillas but for indian roti this is not what you want to buy. Very disappointing product September 25, 2015 Was disappointed in the quality of the product. Looking to return it back. |
One Star Reviews: | 22% doesn't work January 25, 2017 tried various permutation and combinations of dough consistency but still no luck in making an edible chapati. Good to heat your ready to eat chapatis, but spending 70 bucks for that isn't worth it. Not a tortilla maker - this product does not work. January 4, 2017 If your interest is to make tortillas - do not buy this product. It absolutely does not work. The bread product is thick and hard and I have tried to use it multiple times. I contacted the vendor regarding my dissatisfaction with the product and they offered me no relief since I was past the 30 day return window (I tried it on several occasions to try and make it work). Not quality product January 19, 2014 Did not work for me. Just did not get good quality bread(roti) out of it. Also was not able to make the bread thin enough. | 52% One Star June 12, 2017 the roti will become thin on one end and thick on the other - they are not even I could not use it because it's plates did not ... March 22, 2016 I could not use it because it's plates did not have the capacity to heat up to right temperature to could the Roti/flatbread. I ended up returning it. One Star September 19, 2015 We haven't succeeded in making the rotis puff. Maybe it needs the 240 voltage heat it did not meet my expection. It come out ... August 16, 2015 it did not meet my expection. It come out thinck and thin only one end... and it is not working as I saw in the video. Roti is not fully cooked. It doesn't press the ... August 13, 2015 Roti is not fully cooked. It doesn't press the dough well either. I tried with a softer dough. No use. It takes a lot of time to cook even one roti. Regret buying it. Very Disappointed April 8, 2014 This machine does not work the way I thought it should or would. No matter what I do one i put my dough ball in the far back of the hot plate and squeeze it rips my tortillas and shreds into pieces. Trying very hard to work with it but nothing helps. I even watched you tube videos and they still don't come out right |
