no different from the italian brand one for more than half the price.

The Cowboystudio 7 ft 4 Section Portable Adjustable Stand is great. I have three. One I use for the beach exclusively because the nuts and screws will rust.I use them with a reflector boom for my small led lights and a speed light with a small soft box. This stand is not for a medium to full size strobe. If you use a ad360 or the ad200 flash. This stand is perfect for them when using the s bracket. Just keep the modifier small.
Great product

This is perfect for my ring light and my camera. It holds my light and camera very steardy. It is nor wobbly at all. It is easy to install everything onto it, and it is easy to put away. I think the price is perfect. Shipping was awsome. It came on time, and nothing was damaged. I bought this to use as a stand for my camera and ring light for my youtube channel. I have not did a formal review on my channel YET but you can see the difference from my earlier videos until my more recent videos if you would like to see my youtube channel's name is bubblylioness. I really do recommend this.
Two thumbs up from me!

Light, durable and straight forward light stand. I use this in ever photography and video shoot I have. Whether it is holding a clamp for a reflector or a flourescent light unit or sometimes an off camera flash unit and softbox, this unit can hold it's own. To make it even more tough, throw a sandbag on the feet and it will hold more than you'd think. I love that it comes with the bag. Many light stands don't so consider that in your purchase. All in all, I'm still using it on both photo shoots and video shoots and it hasn't broken down on me yet so it gets two thumbs up from me.
Purchased for the HTC Vive - Works Great
June 9, 2016
Using these since they were the cheapest 7 foot tripods I could find. Few things:- Get what you pay for. They work great, but the metal itself is kind of cheap.- I have it extended slightly below max for stability purposes- Has a small footprint and take a minute amount of space- Works great for the HTC Vive (note: I also purchased some 360 degree tripod ball heads to tilt them)Overall they work great, seem plenty stable, but again they cost me $25 and it is the craftsmanship I would expect for two tripods in such a price range. If I was looking for professional photography equipment, I would likely spend a few extra $$
Does what it's supposed to. No collapse buffer.
August 16, 2015
Work great. Two things to note: 1 - Once set up you can't spin the extension poles to re-position your light (or whatever you're putting on it). You'll have to spin the entire stand or if you have a bracket, you can loosen that and then re-position the light. 2 - It doesn't have a "buffer" for if one of the extension poles collapses under the weight of the light. It will just slam down -- pole and whatever is attached to it. NOTE: This hasn't happened to me and I don't see any signs that it will, but some people want a "buffer" for IF it happens, and this one doesn't have one, so I thought I'd mention it.
Excellent product for the price

I've been using two 7-foot compact light stands for about 3 years now (Manfrotto and Cowboystudio), but I've been recently needing to get my wireless speedlight flashes above my subjects (usually wedding couples).I knew I couldn't find many low-priced & compact units, so I decided to find what I could for around $30.When I received the stand I was really surprised at how light it was. Yes, it is larger than my 7-foot Manfrotto, but I'm actually very happy with the build and the height for the price. $29?! I'm going to order another. They get above the average person just fine, and the feet stretch out enough to be very sturdy. On that note, this 9 foot is much better built than my 6 foot Cowboystudio light stand (which I think is a piece of junk, but I'll continue to use it until it fails).Good stuff!Ben

Light weight but very sturdy
June 5, 2017
My son is a professional photographer who is always out in the field shooting and these would not work for him. But for my home studio where I don’t take them out in the field these are great. Light weight but very sturdy with spring cushioned poles. The legs are hard to open and close but once I have them set where I need them, I won’t have to move them often. I do use an Impact Telescopic Collapsible Reflector Holder Boom on one of them, with an Alien Bee light and softbox on the end and it works great. I do use the sand bag.The sand bags that come with them are also great. Very well made with double zippers so the sand can’t get out, (I have mine in baggies just for safety and to keep things cleaner). The bags are also black and yellow so they are easy to see and you don’t trip over them. The carry bags look like they are also well made with a 1" strap from one end to the other. I will not be using this often if at all, but if I do they will work for transporting the stands.
Good stuff!
August 5, 2016
This is really good stuff. I love everything about these stands. This is the spring cushioned version. Same company makes a version which is air cushioned. I never had spring cushioned stands until now and I must say that I really like them. Different but good and I think in the long run, they'll hold better. For the price, they're great. Everything feels sturdy. I like the quick-release knobs. It's not overly heavy ( along the line of a comparable Manfrotto stand). The bars that support the legs when open are plastic. I don't think it's going to affect durability much. The metal tube gauge is strong enough to support pretty heavy loads. I use Alien Bees as strobes (most of the time); heavier strobes and the stands did well even at full extension. YOU MUST USE SANDBAGS when fully extended (that goes with any stand). The package came with two sandbags which I thought it was nice touch.I used them in the studio and at a wedding already. They collapse down to about the half the height of a normal person (important for that first dance when all you're trying to get is just a little flare or only some edge light but you don't want to see an entire stand behind your clients). My only complain are the rubber feet -- the ones that come with the stands are a JOKE! They pop right out. A quick trip to HD for some real universal slip-op rubber shoes (which I do for all my stands) fixed the issue.Let's hope they last but for the price, I've already amortized that x10. We'll buy again.
Great sturdy light stands.
September 24, 2015
I love these, they're so solid and I'm completely confident they'll keep my expensive lights and modifiers on it. The sand bags are an added bonus and a must if you're shooting outdoors and I highly recommend using them indoors as well. I added a photo below and the closest light modifier is a 7ft umbrella with a calumet strobe. I even used this same set up at Yosemite and it stood up unmanned in a light breeze about 8ft high with the sandbags of course. I even added an image bellow with a different set up I found to work really well.
For the money they can't be beat.
February 9, 2015
For the money these are great stands. Heavy build quality and nice carrying cases. Now if I would have had the money I obviously would have opted for a set with casters to roll around and some better tightening knobs, but for the budget minded photographer just building a home studio these stands are perfect.
Best quality for the price
February 21, 2012
My light stands from Steve Kaeser arrived today. First thing first, the product was well packaged and protected. There was a nice letter from the seller thanking me for doing business with a small company, nice. The stands themselves, absolutely great for the price. Are you comparing them to manfrotto? No, unless you want to triple the price, and at triple the price I expect a few things to be added. But here's where a good set of stands can't be cheap "the locks" for clamping down the stand at a specific height. These are all metal locks that only require a 90° turn to clamp it down. This is nice because I hate twisting, and twisting, to get something to bite in and clamp down. The springs are really strong, so I feel comfortable my speedlights won't come crashing down to a jarring stop. The other part that isn't cheap, the assembly. I see metal bolts, not plastic, seals aren't just glued together, and it's all repairable using hex nuts and philips screws. This means if something goes wrong I don't just have to throw them away like I did my other stands. The cases are just simple little Nylon bags, and I do suspect they won't last. The main reason is you have to tighten the stands down with the interior springs under pressure to make them fit in the bag. This means it's stretching the bag constantly and rubbing at both ends. That's going to tear through probably within 1-2 years, but that's not something I was concerned with. The sandbags are really, REALLY, nicely built. They alone were worth spending $20, so that means I got two really well assembled stands for $30'ish.Definitely recommended highly to anyone that wants a good set of stands for a fair price.twitter: @lifebypixels
Buy 'em, you'll Love 'em!
September 1, 2011
These are excellent lightstands! They really are heavy duty and open and close in a pinch! They adjust quickly and I have no worries with my expensive speedlights riding up on top of these lightstands or my shadow boxes. They are phenomenal lightstands! If they could be better, I don't know how! The carrying bags are a great plus too! With the sandbags, even up at the 10' hieght, I'm comfortable with my gear attached to them! You won't go wrong buying these lightstands and they are an excellent price to boot! You'll love them!**UPDATE** Jan 2013 - I still love these stands! They work great and haven't failed me yet! One quick note or suggestion, When you get them, there is a little nut on each knob, take the nut off, add a tad of "locktite" to the threads and screw them back down. Make sure they are only snug enough to get a nice grip on the poles and then faggettaboutit! You won't look back! If you don't add the locktite, every once in a while, one of them will loosen up just a little bit and allow the center pole to slowly slide back down. You can tighten them up real quick with a pair of needle nose pliers, but if you just add that little pinch of locktite, they never loosen up anymore! Oh by the way, I bought two more sets of them since the original purchase! Love them!! You'll love them too!

Cheap but get the job done
September 26, 2017
I've owned a dozen cheaply made light stands in my life. I've had two break in the past 5 years simply due to heavy gear being put up too high (and the cheap metal bends). This is to be expected -- and in fact, only having to replace TWO light stands that I've bought for around $10 per stand is amazing to me.They're easy to setup and just -- shouldn't take you more than 10 seconds. You can't really adjust it if it's on uneven ground -- that's not what you're going to get at this price range.I'm more than happy with these, just got them a few months ago and they're holding up fine. They survived dings just fine, and you can toss 'em around a bit without too much fear that they'll bust -- they compact nicely and I've only had to worry about ruining them when fully extended.Buy a bag or two so they're easy to carry along with your gear -- if you plan on using them on location anywhere.
Good medium-duty 12 foot stand for the $.
March 11, 2017
I give it 4 stars because it seems as good as can be expected for the money. Its the lightest and least expensive 12 foot stand I have come across, and I paid about $30 a few years ago (though have used only occasionally). I have put Arri 1K fresnels about 10 feet in the air and felt OK about it indoors with two fifteen pound sandbags as ballast. Any higher and any less sandbags felt a bit unsafe. With such a heavy load, the smallest diameter tube would bend when extended--thus less than full extension on all risers for such a big light. Of course a heavier two hundred dollar stand would normally be used for such--but this stand fills a niche for those with light equipment or in need of reducing cost or weight of the stand. Would stand up to moderate use but not to be slammed around with the plastic knobs & medium gage aluminum shafts.
Pefect for home studio, great value.
April 26, 2016
This stand matches two other light stands that I purchased (which is why I chose it). It is lightweight and perfect for my home studio. I'm not a traveling professional, and I wouldn't recommend this for consistent mobile use (besides, if I was a pro, I probably wouldn't by any "tools of the trade" hardware for less than $50). This is perfect for my needs. One minor thing: the black protective case was not provided as shown (with strap and zipper). It is a thin nylon case with a tie-up top. Again, not a big deal, as this will go in a larger case with my other stands. Overall, great value.
Not bad if you know what you're getting into.
February 18, 2016
While I'm not using these for lights, they do make awesome folding background holders with the additional clip. Sure they're light-weight and any wind might knock them over, but one would have to make some type of compromise for mobility. When in doubt, sandbag and weight the stand. They are light duty stands, so if you're hard on gear, these aren't much of an option. I now use three of these stands for a reflector, and these 2 stands hold my 7x5 backdrops. They fold up in a compact fashion, which one could carry multiple stands with little effort, or even throw onto the side of a backpack.
Excellent for the price!
November 23, 2013
This thing is a great cheap little stand. I was a little surprised by the quality of the metal, it felt light and sturdy enough that it would not bend in half. It was definitely the right choice after I bought a cheaper one that was like $2 dollars less but received either 2 defects in row or it was just a bogus product. This one does exactly what its suppose to and extends to the max 7'. It also comes with a cheap *** 25 cent carrying case that also gets the job done. Totally worth it if it a cheap frugal person like me.
I was afraid it would be too cheap. I was wrong
March 6, 2013
I gave serious thought before purchasing this stand. The price was right, but I was afraid I was going to get some plastic, made-in-China junk. It's metal, lightweight, and seems reasonably well constructed. Like others, I have found the legs pretty stiff, but have not tried the trick another reviewer suggested about loosening some of the nuts. The carrying case is nice, but pretty lightweight, so I don't expect to get a long life out of it.Summary: It works well for what I need it for. I'm an amateur photographer trying to learn how to take better pictures with off-camera flash. I'd probably find it too flimsy if I was a professional trying to use this on a daily basis for paid work, but I'm happy with my purchase and will purchase more of the same as I expand in the future.

good quality for economical stands.
February 15, 2017
good value, metal clamps, larger diameter tubes.
Great overall. sturdy. However minimum height is not sufficient
August 4, 2016
Superb stands overall. One huge problem though...The minimum height is very high if you want a low light.UPDATE 08/07/16One of the top locking collars is not locking properly, so the light slides down. I will have to return it
Decent for the Price
February 9, 2016
Great for inside use. Be careful outdoors. I had an umbrella attached for an outdoor photo session. The pole kept rotating out of position. I never had that problem with my other heavy duty stands. There is not an option to adjust the tightness of the clamp that holds the pole in position. Other than this, it works as expected. I now use it merely indoors with my speedlights and umbrellas. I use my Paul C Buff stands for outdoor use and studio flashes.
Great product for the price.
October 26, 2015
I just bought these and used them over the weekend at a wedding and over all I'm happy with them. They seem very well constructed, the locks work well and the height is very nice. My only gripe is that it is difficult to get the legs out, the locking ring is very stiff. Perhaps this will loosen up a bit with use.The carry bags are OK, but I'm not expecting them to last long. The sand bags are a great addition, especially if you're using the stands at their full 10'.
Portable stands
December 30, 2013
I've had these stands now for over a year but have used them about 15 times. First let me say the price for these stands are worth what I paid for them, the have gone through some what of rugged conditions, fell a couple time(got knocked over by strong umbrella wind because I refuse to use the sandbag) and they are still in great working condition. I use them for mobile use however with flashes, umbrellas and softbox. They are very sturdy on the ground and even if you extend it to the 10 feet its still sturdy. Let me remind you i'm using it with speedlights and to be honest with you for my heavy studio lights on the go I wouldn't use stands in this price range for that type of equipment. So for mobility with speedlights and reflectors and so on they are great. the reason why I didn't give it 5 star however is that after a few use the straps and zips on the bag went which was very disappointing for me because that's one of the reasons I bought this kit so now I still ended up buying a bag for the stands.
Happy, Happy, Happy!
September 5, 2012
I am an amateur photographer who is slowly gathering my photography supplies. After reading the various product reviews and looking at competing stands, I was very pleased to have purchase this product. The price was good enough considering the high exchange rate I pay for all my items, & the option of getting two rather than one. The stand is the height that I am looking for, very tall & sturdy. They are easy to assemble and dismount. I am also very happy to have received these shoulder bags as well, as it not only allows me to easily carry both stands on one shoulder, but quickly and easily store my stands away while on the go. The stands also fit perfectly on the floor of my vehicle or in the trunk. The only complaint I have is one of the bag's zip broke after the 2nd use highlighting not the strongest quality used. However I would still recommend and I will be purchasing another package in the near future.

does the job
May 10, 2017
light weight and portable, just remember to have a weighted bad when shooting outdoors because of wind. the carrying case did not come with the strap as shown in the photo, dont know if it was a mess up or whatever but i was hoping it would have had that so i could shoulder this light stand.
I like the aluminum stand
April 18, 2017
I like the aluminum stand. I use it for my ring light. However the moment I took it out of the bag a little black piece that belong in the part that holds the poles in place fell right off. I didn't even have it out the bag for 5 seconds before that happened. It has 2 poles that extend but being that the part fell off I can only extend one of the poles. So it does not extend to the full height. Would've given it 5 stars but I feel no matter how cheap a product is, I still feel pieces should not be falling off while still brand new. Maybe after wear and tear but not while brand spanking new.
and not anything terribly expensive in terms of lights
February 4, 2017
A bit flimsy. I wouldn't trust much weight on it, and not anything terribly expensive in terms of lights. I'm using a speedlight with a softbox modifier, and that seems to be about the most I'd trust with it.The carrying case is handy.
OK for HTC Vive IR lighthouses.
December 11, 2016
I bought these to hold the two lighthouse IR stations that you need for HTC Vive. They are plenty sufficient for that purpose. However, I am also a photographer and would like to note that these things are incredibly light weight, so if you are thinking of buying it for that purpose, don't plan on putting much of anything that has any size or weight to it. When extended up they would be very unstable. Perhaps some small LED Lights might work, small microphone, think stuff like that. They wobble back and forth considerably just with the weight of the Vive lighthouses on them. But you Vive owners, these will work fine for a holder for the lighthouses that you don't want to make permanently attached somewhere.
Not very stable, but it'll do
December 5, 2015
I bought this to go with the Diva Ring Light that I bought, and it's really not worth the money. It works, but that's about all I can say about it. It is not particularly stable, and it is a bit finicky to use. I will be switching to my old tripod mount instead since this is just not stable enough to support my expensive light ring.
Good for the price.
April 23, 2015
These things are ok for their cost. They are cheap and will get you started but they have horrid build quality. They aren't terribly stable and become downright unusable when extended to their top height. There's no air piston inside to protect your equipment if the stand decides to give and slam down if you have the vertical adjusted. Still, this was cheap enough to get first my hobby started and then my career. I have no regrets... they did their job well for the price I paid and I was more than happy to have them when I needed them for a price I could afford.

Not worth the $ because not great quality for location work or travel
April 15, 2016
Not worth the $ because not great quality for location work or travel. If you are going to leave and only use indoors, then ok. Won't support very heavy equipment.
Really big and useful, but make sure to tighen screw frequently.
October 16, 2015
Unit is big, large. You need to randomly tighten the screws, otherwise the unit will fall. Will hold up to use and heavier weight flash or larger system.Unit can go up to 10ft without issue.Minor issue, unit has strange metallic oil smell.
Better to leave them in one place or buy extra hardware for them.
September 14, 2014
We use these for professional wedding photography. Bought them because reviews were so good. You have to add nuts to the metal collars in addition to the existing nuts to keep the collars from slowly loosening (after only a few setups and tear downs) to where they will not stay up at all. This was very disappointing. Other than that these are very good solid metal. They are still pretty tall when at their shortest compared to all of our other light stands. They are definitely heavy duty.
Mostly usable, though one stand arrived broken, mixed reaction overall.
July 16, 2014
Quick summary: had I seen and tested this in a store instead of getting it online, I wouldn't have bought it, at least not at this price.Longer review:One unit arrived broken, the uppermost clamp is detached from the middle tube. Pressing it back into place only holds for a while, then the spring pressure causes the top section to pop out with force at unexpected times. It's really quite dangerous because of the spring, and yet the stand won't fit in the storage bag unless the top section is compressed into the middle section.“Heavy duty.” Meh. Yes, it's stronger than a really terrible low-end light stand, but it's a far cry from a Bogen/Manfrotto or a high quality C-stand. Of course, those all cost significantly more and weigh more, so I guess my objection is mostly to the “heavy duty” label when it would be better described as “medium duty.”Spring design: probably doesn't help very much in an uncontrolled flash/diffuser descent because it only cushions the post after it has accelerated and nearly reached the bottom. For example, the top section is able to free-fall about 30” before it hits the spring, and then it only has 3” to decelerate. Whereas air-cushioned designs don't allow the post to fall rapidly in the first place. Realizing this now, I will no longer buy any stand without air cushioning.Since the upper-most section arrived detached, the spring falls out if tipped and I can see that it's only 3” long. If the designer really wanted to make a better product without using an air system, the springs should have been softer and significantly longer so that the posts would descend more slowly.Still, springs seem to be inherently dangerous in this application. I suggest NEVER getting the top of the stand in front of any part of your body while any section is compressed. The spring pressure can cause the post to shoot forward, particularly on a broken unit like the one I received, and yes I really think it could poke an eye out. Best to treat the top-end of the stand like a loaded gun.The storage bag: haven't tested it much, do suspect that it's as reported by other reviewers and not likely to last very long.Stand construction: other than the broken part, the rest of the hardware seems mostly OK. It's light for the size yet pretty stable (indoors) extended to about 7', less so above that height, though as with most stands that's to be expected.Sand bags: surprisingly, these are the best made item in this kit. I'm not saying I love the design, even though it's completely traditional for the product, saddlebags might slip off the leg and I'd prefer something that either wrapped around the center post evenly, or perhaps three separate smaller bags so there would be one for each leg. Regardless of the aforementioned, the strong material, sewing, zippers, and day-glow-yellow warning stripes are all excellent.
Broken after a couple weeks
March 28, 2013
One of the springs has failed in one of the stands- so not only does the spring not respond, but it also won't support that segment anymore. I recommend going for a different stand- in fact, I would stay away from springs all together, and go for air-cushioned, or good ol' fashioned C-stands.EDIT-Not actually broken, it's just that the bolts that hold the semgents up become loose. I carry a hexagon-wrench thing around in my camera bag in case they ever loosen up (which they do from time to time- no biggie if you have a wrench), but they have worked out fine, especially for the price.

Don't care for this stand
May 9, 2017
This stand was recommended by Amazon for the Neewer Camera Photo 18" dimmable ring light, and the ring light doesn't mount to this very well. Aside from that it's a super light, and relatively flimsy stand. If you're on a tight budget, and are not intending on moving your stand too much, then this is for you...but if you need a stand that you can move around and that you want for a long time, keep shopping elsewhere.

Fatal Flaw
March 5, 2016
At its most basic a light stand needs to do three things. Be stable, go up and down, and turn left to right. This stand only does one of these things. It goes up and down. It is not stable. It is very very lightweight and flimsy. The design of the stands, especially the locking mechanism require a channel to be cut into the telescoping rod so that the very nasty and cheap snap locks have something to grab on too. This creates a fatal flaw...You cannot go to the stand release the lock and rotate the rod panning it left to right. You would have to rotate the entire stand. Err..No thanks.
Don't waste your money
January 14, 2016
These are very flimsy. Now I knew I was buying a cheaper product here but.. I did not expect this cheap. They may work for indoors with just a strobe head and umbrella but I would never try to mount a soft box on one. I very much doubt they would be of any use out doors.

February 24, 2014
These came in the mail and they are cheaply made. I Know the price was low, and but I was expecting the stands to be better quality. I have not put weight on them yet, as im not confident that they will hold a a cross bar, let alone a Mono Light. They are very light weight and come in each come in a bag, was expecting to have one bag for both, but was happy to see each were in a bag. I did buy 4 of these and I do plan to keep them, but I will prob. only be using it for very small items, mounting my speed light on to it, etc.. I will just have to wait and see. My plan was to put a cross bar on it, and use these and background stands. but I feel the they may not be able to hold the weight of the tarp and or the weight of the cross bar it self.

Terrible sand bags
May 15, 2017
Terrible sand bags. There is no way to strap them on. They slid right off the stand and my brand new strobe unit fell over and broke. The stands aren't nearly as heavy duty as they implied.
Not very durable!

If you're doing film and you can afford it, get a real stand. Matthews or American. These will do the job but they don't feel secure and I don't have the trust in them I put in a real baby stand.
good enough to hold 2lbs if you're lucky
December 11, 2014
Cheap, flimsy stands, good enough to hold 2lbs if you're lucky. This said heavy duty but it isn't even close at all to being heavy duty. I have a total of 3lbs strobe and battery pack and it barely stays up. I would not recommend these!
These light stands are not very reliable
April 20, 2013
I have used them in several shoots and the same thing happens all the time. There is a little screw and nut on the side to set the tension on the light stand so it holds the light in place when you raise the stand. However, I have to keep tightening this nut almost in every shoot because it becomes loose. This means you have to carry a tool and make sure it holds the light before you completely let it out of your site. They are cheap in price and you get what you pay for. I would not buy these again.

I received my package but did not receive any cases/bags or covers as it is stated... :("CowboyStudio Set of Two 7 feet Photography Light Stands with Cases"product has possible shaky legs even after fully extended, very light may need sandbags if you are skeptical on wind blowing it overgreat for beginners, but for a Octobox and speedlight flash, I would go heavy duty versionBudget Ballin in a pinch, yes...Long Term use or out in the field to impress clients, no
This may be a good fit on my ring light
March 1, 2017
I just received this adjustable stand and i am very unpleased with it. I will be sending it back, I'm just always busy and don't know when yet. This may be a good fit on my ring light, but I'm afraid, because of its light weight, it may drop. i also planned on attaching my camera on this to make video but in no way i am going to take the risk. I'm upset because i was so excited about this stand, i had no idea it was this light weight. i get it was $19.00 so i shouldn't have expected much from it anyways. This stand is extremely plastic. I gived it one star because because of its quality, i couldn't do anything with this stand at all. ugh. The only thing i like about it is its length, this thing can go as long and I'm 5" tall, i feel like its doubled my either like 3 times lol.
Piece of Crap!

Cheap CHEAP CHEAP!!!! I received this today and as excited as I was to see how well my Fluorescent 18" Ring Light works, I tried to disassemble the get up to put away, the damned screw mount BROKE!!!!! WTF??? The rest of the stand was fine, but I get the feeling that if one farts one too many times in a row, the damned thing will blow over and send your light to the ground! Very Disappointed!
Cheap and you get what you pay for also have to go buy proper fastener to mount laser to the stand.

cheap have to go buy a wingnut or hex nut and washer to hold light to stand. They only send with a cheap plastic nut. I took my small laser and trying to run it through one bracket the nut will not tighten . I planned on buying a few more stands but will not buy this cheap garbage any longer.Better have sandbags at the base of the stand so it does not fall over. Sad it will cost me more money to return than it is worth. Learned my lesson I hope you also learn from mine.
Flimsy. Do not buy

Overall: this is a very flimsy light stand. It broke from a 2 foot drop.Pros:+ PriceCons:- Poor quality- Flimsy- Easily brokeI dropped this while putting my camera gear into my trunk. I dropped it from the rear bumper - about 2 to 3 feet - and one of the legs broke. It was no longer usable. I also wouldn't trust it to hold my heavier strobes like an AB800.In summary: this is a flimsy stand, and I recommend that you put your money towards a better quality stand.
I bought 2, neither works!

I purchased the set of these two because I really liked the idea of the "clip-type" closure, making it easier to open and close. And that part of it is certainly true! BUT, the legs just simply won't open past a little triangle. Two of us tried to force the legs open to have the mid-support be in the position as on the pictures and neither is possible to open. One of the legs is also bent a little so once taken out of the closed position little grooves, it is at an angle making it really hard to close it back up. Yes, the price is low... but I would have expected better from CowboyStudio! These are not "cheap".. these are junk.. don;t waste your money. Mine are going back!

Worked for less than a year.

First, the sandbags didn't come. Why mention them if you don't ship them?Second - after less than a year of infrequent usage, the collar on one stand started slipping, so now one stand doesn't hold anything properly, it just keeps folding.Junk.
I had to tighten the stands up with my socket wrenches to get them to support my lights whoever assembled them did a poor job. T

Came without the sand bags instead I got a background support thats loose on both ends. I had to tighten the stands up with my socket wrenches to get them to support my lights whoever assembled them did a poor job. These stands aren't as good as made out to be in the other reviews. The knobs feel plastic even though they are listed as metal. I would get some impact stands before getting these they are big POS's. They would be ok for small LED lights but I would not trust them with anything over a few lbs then you extend them they are very flimsy and seem unstable.
These are not heavy duty at all

These are EXACTLY like the discount brand, Cowboy Studio. I was expecting quality and these are as light and flimsy as the Cowboy Studio ones I reviewed too! Same exact issue-- Stands can't hold the weight of strobe+umbrella, so they slide down. The black paint is all scratched off, showing the flimsy metal underneath. "Heavy Duty" is a joke.
Don't Buy These

Leg lock Turn handle broke on first tighten. It continued to spin without getting tight. The feet have thin, paper thin, pads that will tear on first use. The feet do not meet a level floor and only the edge of the feet touches floor; remember the paper thin pad. Poor design and poor manufacture
Product Damaged - Missing parts - Buy Linco Instead
April 3, 2013
I purchased this product at the same time that I purchased a Linco light Stand. First things first is they seemed to ship me a product that was returned. Upon opening the box I noticed that there where no sand bags, instead there was a bar for a background support system, but the bar was missing parts to attach each bar to each other. The bar was just thrown in to the box along with the other light stands which is probably what damaged the light stands. To be fair the light stands are still useable they are just dented up in numerous locations. In comparison to the Linco Lightstand the PBL light stand is not as good from the rubber feet to the general overall build quality. My recommendation is to buy the Linco stands instead. Not Recommended
this is not so nice
July 26, 2012
Those stands looks nice only out of the box. When you start using - you get a problems. Stands was used only three times and the adapter on the top of the stand get lose !!!!! Its holding by one small screw. My setup was - Alien bee Einstein E640 Flash Unit (4 pounds, 5 ounces) and 35"Octabox (5 pounds). I'm not recommending this product.
