Five Star Reviews: | 52% Good Quality Tripods August 3, 2017 For the price that I have paid, these tripods are very well made, and will handle moderately heavy equipment. They are not heavy themselves, and I did not expect them to be, meaning throwing some sand bags on the base is a good idea if you have cables and people walking around these. Other than that these tripods are probably the best price/value that you can get for a steady light mount. Ideal solution for an armature lighting need January 18, 2017 A friend gave me a couple professional led light panels designed for video use. After looking at "better" and far more costly options I decided to take a chance on this "cheaper" solution. I have used several times for different situations and they have never fallen short of my limited needs which is to solidly hold up panels that weigh just under ten pounds each. I don't know how they would work for heavier lights but for me they have turned out out to be perfect without breaking the bank. Good Quality Lightweight Light Stand October 12, 2016 As a low budget indie filmmaker I'm always on the lookout for quality affordable gear and these light stands deliver solid performance for the price. I decided to purchase four of them in total after the first set worked well. Some low budget filmmakers try Do It Yourself methods and make light stands out of PVC pipe which actually ends up being more expensive, time consuming, and non-adjustable. These light stands are lightweight models, efficient for transport and designed to perfectly mount an on-camera LED light panel or small to medium sized clamp lamps. However, their light frames and low bases mean if you have them raised to their full height you must be careful with the weight and size of the object you are mounting so that they do not tip over. If you are looking for just a lightweight, light duty, light stand, these are a much cheaper and efficient way to mount lights than a C-stand. I have been throughly satisfied with all the Neewer products I've purchased and they seem to be a great company for the low budget filmmaker, especially in lighting equipment. Solid Stands February 13, 2015 I have been using a single stand for an LED light when shooting indoors. I didn't realize that I spent near $100 for the existing stand when I decided I needed another. I looked around and found the 2 Neewer stands and figured that an about a quarter of the price I would give them a try. The arrived and I put them to the test. There is a bit of difference between these and the higher price. For instance on the higher priced unit the movement is air cushioned so they extend and retract in what I will call a softer fashion, but the Neewer stands are perfectly acceptable. As well the Neewer stands do not extend quite as high, they are advertised at 6 and 1/4 feet, but they are closer to 7 feet. Plenty high for my needs. For my needs they are going to be great. Easy to use, easy to store and sturdy. For the price great all around stands Lightweight and well built. December 21, 2013 Great stands for intended use. Don't try to load 50 pounds on them and you should be fine. They look good, the tightening mechanisms are solid. Not much else to say. I bought six of these things and modified them by ripping out the top mount with pliers (it took a while) and I glued a 3/8" bolt inside so I could use them for mounting a microphone boom on top. The stands are sturdy enough to hold up a considerable amount of weight, even though they were "designed" for lighter loads. Beef up that top piece a little bit and you could support some pretty substantial loads. They're solid stands, even without the modification. But I needed a 3/8" mount rather than 1/4" for my purposes. A big pair of pliers and epoxy glue did the trick for me. These stands are compact, they are solid, they look good, and they are inexpensive. I don't know how much more you could ask for. I may buy some more of these things because they just LOOK cool. | 75% Holding up my lightboxes. September 1, 2017 These are perfect for holding the HTC Vive light boxes. I have moved my Vive four times since I have purchased these and every time these have been a perfect fit for setting up my space. If you can't put holes in the wall or like me, like to take your Vive to parties, this is the solution. The included bag is generic, as it is bigger than the 2 stands combined, but it helps keep them stored when not in use and easy to carry around, with space for anything else you want to throw in there. I have a regular tripod for a video camera in there now. The only issue I have had, and it was only a minor irk, is that the lighthouses have a slight vibration to them and the spring inside the pole picked up on this vibration making a slight metallic shaking sound. It is all in the extension and placement of the stand that makes the difference with that though. Great Tripods for Oculus Rift Sensors. August 28, 2017 Ordered these not for the intended purpose, I'm using them for the Oculus Rift VR sensors for the experimental 2 sensor 360 degree setup. The tripods are fantastic, good build quality and really solid feeling. The carry bag is great if you need to pack your stuff up and take it portable and seems plenty durable enough. There's enough room in there for the two tripods, the USB extension cables you're no doubt using as well as the sensors if you put them in protective covering. The only thing I wish these had was an included ball joint at the top so you can make angular adjustments, you have to buy the ball joint separate and that too needs to be removed when you put the tripods in the bag. If the bag were like six inches longer it would have been awesome and more convenient. If i go to a three sensor setup I'm hoping I can buy these in a single. The price for the pair with an included bag is an amazing deal for VR owners that don't want to put holes in the walls / ceiling. Must have for the VIVE users that travel, or cant perm mount their lighthouses. August 22, 2017 Cant beat the price point for these units. Others will be 30 - 40 for one stand. This pack i bought for my VIVE setup because im at a location where i cant perm mount my lighthouses. These units arrived on time, and were very quick to setup. I was worried about the quality of both the bases and the ball mounts but i was very surprised to see both are great quality. They have some weight to them (which is a good indicator of quality) but never fear they are easy to carry and hardly noticeable. I was worried they would tip on their own but just a bit of common sense with the bases to make sure they are spread out the higher you deploy them helps keep them moving at all. The added springs they have to help pop out the grip points makes it nice and easy to extend and you don't feel your jamming it back in every time and screwing it down. I will suggest to any VIVE owners out there.Literally the only criticism i would offer the company, would be one of two items. Reduce the size of the bag, because even after both units are in the carry case it has a lot of wasted space. However since it is not a hard cover putting items in there are at risk of rubbing against the poles. Alternatively Great product with a really convienent carrying bag included, Perfect for the Vive VR system! April 23, 2017 Product shiped in a box the size of the bag with the tripods themselves safely secured inside the bag in their own individual boxes. The Vive light box attachments outside the bag. Setup was extremely easy and the tripods seems stable and allow me to angle the Vive's two lightboxes as easily as the original mounts did. This product makes placing the Vive VR headset's two light boxes very easy and allows for easy mobility if you ever want to travel with the equpiment or move it from room to room. A lot nicer than the headset's included wall mount. At the price I paid($44) I would call this a must have for any Vive owner! Great small stand for ringlight or other options. Quite durable. October 3, 2016 I thought I reviewed this previously, but I guess I didn't. I needed something to hold my ring light on a table as my larger stand was just too tall. I have an 18 inch ring light so it can be quite top heavy, but I position the legs of this stand so that it keeps it balanced and I haven't had any issues with toppling over. This thing is sturdy, I'm very impressed with how well it is made and how durable it is. I use it several times a week for hours on end and it doesn't have any issues. If you are looking for a small table top stand, I highly suggest this one as it is affordable and really holds up well. I'm impressed for sure. I do suggest that you not put it on a slippery surface. I place it on a table top that is not slippery and it stays, but on my table that is slightly slippery, it can slide. Otherwise, it works really well. tripod for HTC Vive June 4, 2016 I bought these to use for the IR lighthouse units on the HTC Vive. They work perfectly for this purpose, very stable, no wobble at all. They are sturdy and seem to be built well. Very small foot print on the floor so if you are tight on space these will work well, if you have more space you can widen them for more stability but even at max height they do not move at all. Even with the slight vibration these boxes generate. Coupled with the tripod ball head bracket and it's a complete solution for your VR space. |
Four Star Reviews: | 22% Neewer Two Aluminum Photo/Video Tripod Light... May 5, 2017 Good light duty product. I like them because it's easy to pack in a case and doesn't take up much space. Works with HTC Vive Lighthouse! July 19, 2016 Bought these for use with my HTC Vive. The lighthouse sensors will screw right in to the top if you do not want them angled. I bought Akak Store 1/4" Swivel Mini Ball Head Screw Tripod Mount for DSLR Camera Camcorder Light Bracket in order to angle the sensors downwards as instructed. Took 5 minutes to setup and works great. I am using the tripods on carpet and i can imagine if you walk right next to the tripod it will move the sensor; however I am at least a foot away and i did not notice any movement from the sensor. Neewer has done a very good job providing products to up & coming photographers July 12, 2016 Neewer has done a very good job providing products to up & coming photographers, freelancers, and hobbyist at a very reduced rate. I will voice concern that the quality of the product isn't the greatest, it's definitely a setup & forget stand, if you use it very often & pack and repack it make sure to be gentle, they aren't the solid stands that the more expensive manufacturer's offer, but they do the job, for a reasonable price. Worked great for Vive lighthouse July 11, 2016 Worked great for Vive lighthouse. I used the Professional Mini Ball Head Camera Mount on top (they were perfect! but spendy). The tripods were a little too light for use on carpet though, so there were times when you could fee the lighthouses swaying. For the most part though this wasn't noticeable. If it gets bad I'll put sandbags at base Exactly as describe January 21, 2016 My light stands I had lost and was needing some additional stands. I ordered via Amazon Prime and they literally came the next day. Unboxing them they were package nice however these are indeed light weight as describe. However if your lights are not heavy then it would be fine other wise your may need and sand bag to keep them down but thus far i haven't had to put a sand bag on them and if its something that you need for a temporary fix then this may be the product for you however if your on the go and using this as professional equipment. Sorry it is not professional equipment save your money and get you some heavy duty light stand. I This is a good product for the price... January 27, 2014 I'm a photographer and know quality versus junk when it comes to equipment. In the photography world, some high priced items aren't worth the cost. It's possible to find excellent bargains that hold up to higher cost items as well. For $25.00 incl. 2 day shipping you cannot go wrong. This item will serve as a set of light weight stands to hold a single slave flash or some other light weigh items. These stands can also be re-purposed for various projects around the house if needed (I bought these for a non-photography project). That said, I would NOT put a heavy umbrella, back drop, or large and expensive light system on these stands. They simply are not strong enough to take the weight.Pros: 1. PRICE 2. Metal construction 3. 3 leg stands are far enough apart for decent stability 4. The locking collars are plastic but seem sturdy. 5. simple metal screw head for attachments. 6. Light weight.Cons: 1. Thin rods and expansion slots/joints are very light weight and do not look like they can take much weight. The plastic collar helps stabilize the rods but could break with a lot of weight.Overall: I'd buy these again for $25.00 if I needed a simple, light weight, or portable set up for flashes. At only 6' high the use of this set is limited for lighting in a studio. It's worth 4 starts to me when I get exactly what I expected (a decent set of stands for low cost). | 14% Nice, lightweight stands to hold lighter equipment only. August 15, 2017 These are very nice for the price. I use them to hold my Nikon Speedlight flashes and 32 and 47 inch octagon softboxes. I am not a pro, these won't be leaving my home, but the only reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is that they seem like with a little rough handling they would break. If you do a lot of location shooting, need stands that have to be adjusted a lot and moved often, I would not recommend these. Now this was a great product to use I loved it with all my ... June 28, 2017 Now this was a great product to use I loved it with all my heart, I used it in strong winds and so many other conditions i would say if you're going to use this make sure you get sand bags and also make sure you get the accident protection those two things will make it all worth it. Out of all the ones i used so far this has been my fave but i only used 3 all together and they get more expensive lol From a video pro March 17, 2017 I used the kit about 10 times so far. I purchased them for the extended height and the bag. Overall, excellent for the price. I gave it 4 stars for two complaints: 1) At full height there is an unacceptable wobble. The lights used are within the manufacture weight limit spec. Lowering each segment 2 - 4" provides stability. I found the usable height is around seven feet. 2) The shock spring on each segment is probably intended to dampen the shock of a falling segment when a novice user forgets to hold the segment before releasing a lock. Personally, I find it annoying while storing. The segment locks are very good. The bag has space for additional items. I store the stands in their cardboard boxes for better organization which allows me to include two smaller stands, flex arms for other lights, gels and other grip items. I bought these to use for the Vive lighthouses like others have October 12, 2016 I bought these to use for the Vive lighthouses like others have. They work well with a 1/4" camera ball socket adapter. They're a bit wobbly when extending all the way up but everything stays still once in place. If you set them up on an above ground floor like in a mobile home or pier and beam or anything that will vibrate when you walk, you could have some issues. If your floor doesn't move or vibrate then they'll work perfectly for you. It also make the vive way more portable. It's what it is! A little light stand.. August 30, 2016 It's just a little light stand! Nothing special and nothing wrong. Perfect for table top product photography. Maybe drop a little sandbag or bag of rice on it, if you're using a multi-bulb fixture or something. It's a simple product. My only qualm, is that I wish it had the kind of mounting pin on it with the back plastic that screws off to reveal a screw where I could mount something. But that's a very minor, personal, thing. Good hobby tripod October 7, 2015 Good hobby tripod. Plastic parts probably won't last for professional/heavy-duty-repeated use. Legs are a little short, so this isn't the most stable tripod produced - - should only be used on stable, flat ground. Would have been better if there was a 1/4 inch thread on top of 5/8" stem, like other mini-tripods. I will try to tap a 1/4 threaded hole in the 5/8" aluminum stem, then use 1/4" Male to 1/4" Male Threaded Screw Converter Adapter. Overall: good cost vs quality. |
Three Star Reviews: | 14% I hated them at first May 4, 2017 These stands are very small and skinny. I hated them at first, but they actually are kind of nice, cause they fit in my kit. These are not very strong, but strong enough for a small moonlight and light modifier. Actually is very funny my experience August 13, 2015 Actually is very funny my experience. I thought the price was for one tripod so i made 2 orders when the package came i thought there was a mistake because i end up with 4 tripods hahaha so when i check them i was happy and all. The thing with this product is that the tubes are very hard to move and the quality of the materials very bad i mean i knew it was going to be plastic or some kind of aluminium, in other words this product is definitely for beginners and for now that works for me but in a few months of lots of use probably i will have to make another investment (and i will pay more to have a better product that can last longer) it you are thinking to use these lights for some college project or indie movie or youtube blog it ok its very useful but if you want to begin a photography business (as i am) these will work for a "while" due its very delicate Relatively fair value. Not for heavy lights or expensive gear. April 16, 2015 Ok stands. Their leg span is shorter / narrower then I expected and wanted. They are very light weight. I would not trust expensive lights or gear on them. Good enough for flags, scrims, bounce boards, and so on. Time will tell how well the knobs and moving parts hold up. But for the price I paid, i think it was a fair value. Ok, will make them work for now. December 19, 2014 They are very flimsy and not sure they will hold up long, plus 1 of them is broke, but not worth hassle to exchange, so I will make it work. | 5% Fovitec customer service second to none. September 16, 2017 The product was not as described in the technical specifications. Was of steel construction and not die cast aluminum. Called Fovitec. They PROMPTLY returned my call. The girl was too nice for me to become a grumpy old man and complain. She painlessly rectified the situation. Might be the best customer service ever. First set I bought came with one stand broken. ... May 12, 2017 First set I bought came with one stand broken. Had to return them and get another set. So far the second set works as expected. Internal spring makes noise due to vibration of Vive Lighthouses. December 18, 2016 Light and sturdy. If you're using a Vive, make sure to buy an adapter to allow your lighthouses to tip downward.Only complaint is that when you attach the Vive lighthouses, the stands become noisy as the vibration of the lighthouses causes the internal spring to vibrate back and forth hitting the metal walls of the stand.I'll probably take them apart at some point to remove the springs as they're not necessary and the noise can break with the immersion of the Vive. Too thin and wobbly to hold backdrop December 6, 2016 These are OK stands... for small speedlight or maybe for one of those HTC VR things. But I bought it for a backdrop. And for that these stands are just way too thin and flimsy. They are as high as description suggests, it's just top most section is /12 steel pipe. It it was aluminum, it would be fine (maybe) but steel has too much flex. I am returning these and getting something more heavy duty. Decent quality but fragile December 3, 2016 They are good enough to do the job I bought them for. I use them for my HTC Vive base stations when I travel. My only negative is that they are fragile. One of the stick broke when I tried to extend it. Nice for the Price! December 17, 2015 The light stands arrived on time and in good condition. I really like the nice and roomy carrying case. There is enough room to add more stuff. The light stands will work well with light weight lights. However, when I extended the light stand to the highest height with a fresnel light it was a little unsteady. Recommend using these with basic lights and other things like a flash. |
Two Star Reviews: | 5% Cheap light stands. August 24, 2017 CHEAP very lightweight would be okay for holding a photography flash but not great for video lights. I'm just checking the order it turns out that nothing ... July 26, 2017 I'm just checking the order it turns out that nothing else but a booth but I can not return it since it occupies the one that came Not very durable. April 22, 2016 Was disappointed that they are pretty flimsy. I got them to use with my Canon 600EX-RT flashes/umbrellas for shooting wedding receptions. They only extend to 6ft which isn't going to cut it for my needs. Will probably keep as back up stands for my studio--too much of a pain to return. They're cheap. Inexpensive and cheap. They wobble with ... February 8, 2016 They're cheap. Inexpensive and cheap. They wobble with the lightest of loads when extended above 4'They'll do the job but I'm putting in an order for a pair of sturdier ones. Was suggested as a mount for snap on led shop lights...not very good. September 18, 2015 The screw on the top is so short!! will barely go through the mount on my snap on light I bought. I will keep them but have to do a little work to be useful. | 3% Not for heavy use. November 4, 2017 They were very rickety even with light LED lights on top. Lots of plastic knobs too. Love getting a case though. The risers don't operate smoothly and are easily warped. The bag is also pretty cheap September 1, 2016 You get what you pay for, which is why I gave this even two stars. I wouldn't put any thing worth more than $50 on one of these stands. They're flimsy. The risers don't operate smoothly and are easily warped. The bag is also pretty cheap. It's good enough for a couple of these stands and a couple umbrellas, but the "heavy duty" zipper isn't heavy duty at all. To top it off, it opens on the side, which is just weird and inconvenient. If you're on a budget, spend a little more and get these: LIGHT STANDS PRO HEAVY DUTY 7'6" SET OF TWO, WITH ALL METAL LOCKING COLLARS NOT PLASTIC by PBL. They're much sturdier and come with much better individual bags and sandbags, too. Not good. November 24, 2015 I ordered (2). One didn't allow me to tighten the main adjustor. They sent me two more. One didn't allow me to tighten the main adjustor. In conclusion: Of the (4) I received, (2) seem to be in working condition out of the box...at least temporarily. Not good. Poor build quality November 10, 2015 Decent case, good size and weight on the stands. But the locking stud on the bottom is threaded into plastic and not a metal collar. It would never tighten all the way and every time I place a light on the stand, it would collapse. Send back the day after I opened it. |
One Star Reviews: | 7% Didn't come with two stands November 24, 2016 I only received one stand. On top of that, these stands are very light and not sturdy at all. These are super light weight July 10, 2016 These are super light weight. Do not plan on putting anything more than a flash on them. Do not order for strobes or lights. They will tip over. ONLY ONE STAND IN BOX! Cheaply built. March 22, 2016 Package only contained one light stand. Upon receiving the package, I noticed this was weird, since the listing is for a set of two. I appealed to Amazon Customer Support and they said all components were in the box when it left their facility. It obviously was not. Definitely would not recommend based on the product itself and the level of service that Amazon provides. The actual light stand is made of thin aluminum and will bend with some pressure. It's fine for holding a light when fully extended, but will get mangled if the stand falls over. Product is a very beginner model and is not substantially built by any sense of the phrase. I would highly recommend spending a few extra dollars to purchase a professional light stand. this was the second order and they were not the ... March 2, 2016 this was the second order and they were not the same quality as my first order.these were made of smaller tubes. Ordered twice, both were defective March 12, 2015 Ordered one, came with parts missing. Sent back and ordered a new one, still came with parts missing. The only good thing about this item is the return policy. Pure rubbish August 21, 2014 Pure rubbish. Owned them for less than 3 months and with light use 2 have already become unusable. | 3% Cheap and flimsy January 5, 2017 Extremely cheap!!!! Not for professional or outdoor use whatsoever. Bends an incredible amount with small payloads at low heights. Invest the extra money in something that will actually hold some weight like a C stand or other heavier duty stand. Very disappointed with the quality of these stands August 23, 2016 Very disappointed with the quality of these stands, very cheap plastic collars and poor build quality. Description says they are rated to hold 7lb, but stand was bowing under the weight of a 1lb flash head. Not good at all for holding up lights over 5 feet ... June 27, 2016 The base of the stand is too small to hold a light when the stand is extended up without possibly tipping over. Not good at all for holding up lights over 5 feet in the air. Very bad design with the legs not being at least 6 inches wider on the bottom for support. Just not stable enough to hold alien bee strobes. I will keep them and only put small flashes on for studio work. Poor Quaity Control June 15, 2016 I received a defective stand. The screw for attaching gear was not machined correctly to standard. I tried an umbrella mount and my radio trigger receiver and neither would screw in cleanly or completely ... stopping after only 2-3 turns of the thread and hanging crookedly on the stand. Returned and will be shopping for another brand. No issues with the Seller and Amazon with respect to shipping and returns. Should have known! October 6, 2015 The reviews seemed pretty good, even with them being inexpensive. I went to set them up right out of the box and the bases do not tighten. The screw will not screw in all the way on either stand. Unusable. |
