Five Star Reviews: | 80% so far so good October 25, 2017 after an unsatisfactory experience with a cheaper grinder, I decided to try this one, based on reviews and searching online as well. that it was on sale was a bonus, as the original price is pretty high. there is one other brand out there - if you search best pepper grinder you will find it- but it is more expense yet, and no discount. so this being a time tested company as well, I went with it. also the design is pleasing and modern, which I like.right out of the box I tested it immediately, as it is already loaded with pepper corns. all the settings worked well and smoothly, with ease. no fuss no bother.excellent This is the best one yet October 3, 2017 I've only had this a short while. It's the latest addition to my collection of pepper mills. This is the best one yet. I have a couple of others that grind as well but they don't have much capacity for the pepper corns and are a pain to refill. Grinds evenly and quickly. Fits my hand comfortably. I'll update after I have used it more. I bought one for my Wife and one for my ... September 28, 2017 I bought one for my Wife and one for my mother-in-law. They don't talk about them that much, but I have noticed our meals are more enthusiastically spiced, and peppercorns on the shopping list more than once a year. I think the true testament to this product was my wife picking through our flood-damaged home after hurricane Harvey and actually salvaging her pepper grinder. Best pepper grinder with adjustable settings September 12, 2017 5 grinder settings. Saw review from America's Test Kitchen and decided to buy it. Adjustments are easy and I know that it is well made and will last due to metal grinding mechanisms. Easy to operate and adjust settings and easy to refill as you can see through the acrylic and don't have a lot of parts to remove to refill. LOVE IT June 17, 2016 We purchased the Salt and Pepper mill over a year ago and OH MY, it is GLORIOUS.It is immensely easy to adjust and fill. It is a good size to use for cooking and for table if need be. I've used it on the daily for over a year and it grinds now as the first day I took this baby for a whirl. It may feel like a hefty price for grinders but it will be worth every single cent. Best bang for your buck on Pepper Mills, no reason to spend more! April 25, 2016 The reviews couldn't be more accurate about this mill. I had been shopping for a new pepper mill and was convinced I was going to purchase a Peugeot for 2-3x the price. I found a link to this one online stating it is one of the best tested multiple years in a row. I took a chance since at the price the worst thing that would happen is I would get a couple years of use and then buy a Peugeot. Holy cow! This mill is amazing. It is easily adjusted and the mill grinds just as well on the finest setting as it does on the coarsest. Overall great product and easy to use. | 0% There are no reviews yet | 0% There are no reviews yet | 83% Really yummy! July 15, 2017 I was skeptical about ordering peppercorns on Amazon. These are amazing! They are much better tasting than the other brands I have tried! My hubby usually does not like freshly cracked pepper & prefers ground pepper. He really enjoys this one. I was shocked! I highly recommend. Outstanding aroma and flavor, not your usual black pepper. November 22, 2016 I love this pepper. The moment you open the bag, you can smell the difference between Tellicherry and regular peppercorns. They're more fragrant, and a richer, more complex flavor. Not the hard, acrid bite of regular black pepper. This pepper was, allegedly, one the 11 'secret herbs and spices' used by a certain colonel on his fried chicken. FLAVORFUL AND PUNGENT! August 6, 2016 I always buy Tellicherry Peppers because I have found them to be pungent, and flavorful. These arrived soon after I ordered them and are very fresh tasting. I grind these peppercorns and use on everyday, almost on everything but especially when cooking Indian, Mexican, or Chinese food. It is best to store them in a glass jar while keeping the rest in your pepper grinder for easy access. Gourmet Quality Peppercorns - a bang for your buck! February 10, 2016 I recommend this product! I needed some peppercorns to use in a new salt and pepper grinder set that i have. Since i was getting the set from Amazon i decided to go ahead and buy the peppercorns here! I nice heavyweight bag of peppercorns with a zip lock to close after you get out what you need. They grind up nice and have a nice smell and taste. What do you say about pepper? I am not a pepper expert, but i do know there is a huge difference between ready ground pepper and when you grind it yourself and I do know that when the bag runs out I will order the same again ! It seems that i got much more peppercorns for the money than if i would have made a quick run to the grocery store. Pepper that is better than pepper! September 18, 2015 It's pepper. But somehow it's better than pepper. It's like... super pepper? Ultra pepper? Crazy pepper. I like Crazy Pepper the best. I'm going to call this Crazy Pepper from now on. I've also added it to our Prime Pantry list to ship every six months. You wouldn't think there was that much difference between regular "mass produced" pepper (I feel weird even saying that) and this. But there is. Just try it. Get yourself a nice grinder. The perfect black pepper October 3, 2011 The peppercorns arrived on time and were sealed, air tight, in a thick plastic bag. I cook on a regular basis at home. I think tellicherry peppercorns are the best black pepper taste. I got some variety peppercorns years ago for my grinder, and I forgot what I was missing. Now I've got a huge supply of awesome peppercorns for stews and my grinder. This product is probably more the size that a restaurant would buy but it smells and tastes amazing, I'll share some with my neighbors. | 0% There are no reviews yet |
Four Star Reviews: | 10% I love to grind salt as I cook July 25, 2017 I love to grind salt as I cook. However, I thought this would be like its partner, the pepper grinder, and have settings that allow me to choose the size of the grind. Not. I also had to read how to refill it...not in the accompanying info but by a review or question/answer where a family member fixed it for his kids. Awesome and consistent results March 20, 2017 This is a great pepper mill. One of the best ones I've ever owned. The size and consistency of the grinds are perfect. And no more fiddling with screws. Love the fact that I can quickly switch grind size with ease. The only thing that I took away a star for was the capacity. I wouldn't mind a taller one like some of the premium wooden ones. Took two tries, but replacement grinder is great! January 2, 2017 As another poster experienced, the first mill I bought delivered inconsistent sizes of pepper pieces at the fine setting--about half was indeed very fine, the rest of the pieces were larger and variably sized. Bought a replacement and it's much better at all grind settings. The fine grind is truly fine, and pieces are of consistent size. The grinder has a smooth action and grinds much faster than my 10-year old Peugeot. Good pepper grinder September 3, 2016 Nice to finally have a quality pepper grinder. Only small issue is that after grinding some pepper, it leaks a bit of ground pepper when you set it down--even if you tap it a little first. We just keep it on a small plate to keep the ground pepper from getting all over our counters and table. Very Good Pepper Mill!! April 13, 2016 Well I've been wanting to purchase this pepper mill for some time. But, new ones sell for suggested retail since Americas Test Kitchen named it the "BEST". I don't pay retail for nothing. I bought this one "used" for 10 dollars less. Came repackaged but seems like new. This grinder is by far the best I ever owned. Easy grind adjustments and plenty of pepper comes out. East to re-fill. The only reason it did not get 5 stars is the small capacity. I thought it was larger. Absolutely amazing. . . But. . . June 27, 2014 I got this for Father's Day, and I was immediately amazed at how a change in grinder could affect the taste of the same pepper. My 12 year old grinder was probably half the price of this one, and it did the job. Or so I thought. This is on a completely different level. It manages to extract 5 times the flavor from the same peppercorn. Even my wife agrees. The only reason I am not giving it five stars is b/c the first one was defective. It would never grind as fine as I thought it should, based on the picture included with the mill. I called the company, and they said they'd replace it, if I shipped the other one back first. So I just contacted Amazon, and we had a new one in two days. The new one is absolutely perfect.I uploaded some photos in the customer images section, so you can see what I mean. | 0% There are no reviews yet | 0% There are no reviews yet | 11% Clean October 5, 2016 Much larger than expected, though if I recall correctly, there were smaller sizes and I ordered the most effectively priced. The scent is musky and rich, though I am accustomed to a fruity black pepper, this should be what I want. My pepper grinder is full and there is enough to refill it again Very Good Tasting Pepper. June 26, 2016 This is a good-tasting pepper. It isn't quite as good as everyone stated in their reviews here, I thought. I had some peppercorns that came in a gourmet pepper mill I bought a couple of years ago that were really fantastic, and I can't find any that quite live up to that pepper. But this is much better than the peppercorns from the grocery store which mostly just make me sneeze. Very good pepper. special pepper, says my husband March 19, 2016 To me, pepper is pretty much pepper. The flavor does taste fresh and the smell makes me sneeze, so I guess it is good stuff. My husband, who COVERS his food in pepper says that this pepper is pretty special. This was our first introduction to "upgraded" or "high end" ... December 28, 2015 This was our first introduction to "upgraded" or "high end" black pepper, and our pepper use has dramatically increased. What the heck is that black powder people normally use . . sheesh. Grind it baby, grind it! It will make you sneeze Ahhhh- -chhhoouuuee, involuntary reaction, mmmmm yummy another irresistible reaction. Good deal and a pound goes a long way! June 3, 2015 All I can say is a pound of peppercorns are a heck of a lot. Regardless these peppercorns seemed somewhat dry but they grinded well in my grinder. The taste is also good. I also saved over $7 by redeeming my points from Amazon Card so paid only paid $5.80. Great deal either way. I shouldn't need any more for at least two years. Good & Fresh; re-bag it December 3, 2014 Good stuff. The only issue might be being too frugal. There are a lot of peppercorn here. If they last you over a year, you'll be well served to toss what's left and get a new batch. Sure, you could freeze them; double bag them, etc., but really?... Good... fresh ground pepper is so nice, compared to... WELL... that other stuff, why be too frugal?Bottom line tho... It's good and fresh when you get it. Just be sure to re-bag it right away to help keep it fresh. | 0% There are no reviews yet |
Three Star Reviews: | 5% Overrated November 11, 2017 Doesn't have much heft; feels cheaply made. The stamped aluminum base looks cheap as well. Grind consistency is poor. Not quite sure how this got good reviews from a prominent cooking magazine. Terrible value.... good but not great but priced very high May 20, 2016 Likes:- Filling is easy.- Salt grinder is great.- Stylish design and good size (tall, stainless, good capacity)Dislikes:- Indicators fade quickly. Some of the dots started fading right away. After about 1 year, you can no longer see what grinder setting the salt is set to (completely faded). The pepper is faint since we use it less often.- The pepper doesn't engage on the peppercorns (we have whole black peppercorns from Costco). As I turn the grinder, it feels like only have the time do the teeth bite in and start grinding pepper. Maybe the whole pepper I have is too large in diameter for this to handle, but overall the rate at which pepper comes out is disappointing. a quality grind, but really, really slow! April 19, 2016 I did my research and bought this highly-recommended grinder two years ago. It works fine, and if it proves to be durable--as it had better be for the cost--I'll be happy. Kind of. But it does have one significant problem: a high gear ratio, so that it's very easy to turn, but it takes forever to get a sufficient quantity. I sometimes buy Tone's black pepper that comes in a bottle with a disposable plastic grinder and that actually works much better--harder to turn, but much faster. So: if you've got arthritis or some other joint issue, this could be the ideal grinder for you; if you want to produce quantities of freshly ground pepper for more than a single serving, consider looking elsewhere. Average Salt and Pepper Mills December 9, 2015 Average Salt and Pepper Mills, they do a decent job of grinding. My complaint is that printing on the bottom ring of the unit that allows you to change to grind from fine to course wore off quickly, so even though you can still change the grind, you don't know which way to turn it, and have to try several settings to see which way you want to turn it. The scale was printed on the adjustment ring, but should have been etched. Other than than they work fine, just a little inconvenient to use. Did not meet expectations September 4, 2014 Main reason for buying this item was the range of the sizes of the grindings that could be dialed in. The size for the "finest" grindings produced "fine" grindings but also had coarser bits mixed in even after repeated twists of the grinder. Not what I expected. It may have been the type of peppercorns (something called Tellicherry, sold by Costco). No other types were tried for comparison. The manufacturer was not contacted for comment. I'll keep the unit even though I consider my experience with it a disappointment in its function. Not worth the price July 1, 2014 I bought this based on a recommendation from America's Test Kitchen. It's their top-rated mill. It's pretty disappointing. ATK especially praised it's fine grind setting. On mine, the fine grind is indistinguishable from the next two more coarse settings. The output is nothing special either. Large capacity, easy to fill, but otherwise pretty mediocre. | 0% There are no reviews yet | 0% There are no reviews yet | 3% Hot October 19, 2017 Be aware that these peppercorns are surprisingly hot - much hotter than other brands I've used. Okay Pepper June 4, 2017 I thought I'd try a different brand and buy this, but I wasn't very happy. It's okay, but definitely doesn't have as strong of a flavor as the previous ones I've bought. Not sure if it was this batch or if that's how this brand is. So-so October 27, 2016 It's slightly better than the Trader joes brand. I hear penzey's is better and will try that next, One issue with this... April 9, 2016 Love the peppercorns however, I just pulled it out of the box and the bag had a hole in it. A small amount went all over my floor so packaging will get a lower rating. Other then that, great product when it's not falling out all over the place | 0% There are no reviews yet |
Two Star Reviews: | 2% Very disappointed! November 12, 2017 I own a Unicorn pepper mill and bought this mill solely based on a top review from a leading cooking magazine thinking I was going to get an even better mill (meaning more control). This mill, while very well constructed, is no where near the performer of the Unicorn for those cooks using expensive peppers requiring predictable results. In a side by side comparison using top peppercorns from a well known NY supplier, the Unicorn ground much more consistently at the various settings and at a MUCH faster rate. The Cole and Mason left large pieces of peppercorn at every grind setting, differences between settings were very slight, and took forever to produce useable quantities. While easier to load and change settings and definitely better than the top selling OXO mill, the very inconsistent results have me owning a very expensive table mill that I wish I could return. Love these salt and pepper shakers August 6, 2017 Love these salt and pepper shakers. Get compliments for them all the time, but for whatever reason the screw that is needed for the salt shaker is too short and unable I am unable to screw back in to reassemble the salt shaker. It seems to be the same screw that is needed for the pepper shaker too, but I tried interchanging them and still wasn't able to get the salt shaker reassembled. Would love to have these as a pair, but still on the search for a longer screw replacement. Disappointing. Broke right away. While it still grinds, can't control the coarseness of the grind. June 12, 2017 Disappointing. It broke right away, with the first filling of peppercorns and the first turn of the grinder. A piece of the grinding mechanism fell out of the bottom of the mill (looked like a flat black plastic washer). The mill grinds pepper, but it's impossible to control the fineness or coarseness of the grind. It's always the same inconsistent mess of large chunks and fine dust, no matter what setting the mill is on.Would not buy this again. the first one was fantastic (for information June 3, 2016 I have ordered 3 of these, the first one was fantastic (for information, I'm interested in very fine grinds), the next 2 were hopeless (ie: I couldn't get anywhere near as fine a grind as the first unit). Any information on how to make these 2 bad units I bought to be as good as the first would make me change this to a 5 star review. That first unit is really, really good, I just wish they had more consistency. Disappointed with the delivery of pepper June 30, 2014 I also bought this based on the Cook's Illustrated/Americas Test Kitchen review. This is the first product that I am disappointed with based on their review. All of the different grind setting from finest to coarsest produce little pepper on my plate on in my pan. I'm not sure why that is. I can get a temporary additional delivery by rotating grind selection, but it is back to almost nothing with a few grinds.I do like the feel of the mill and the idea behind the grind selection, but overall this has been a disappointment. Not worth $39.99 January 13, 2014 I had the unfortunate luck of sending for a replacement, and that is when I noticed the grinds were inconsistent. The original one was pretty close to the enclosed pictures of selected grinds(but had other issues) and I would have been slightly annoyed at the extra courseness of the grinds, but the second pepper mill wasn't even close. The finest grind was more like the next one up. The second selected grind was between 3 and 4. I called the company and they said it could be a internal spring problem. Being that this pepper mill is made in China, that might explain the sloppy feel to the grinder and selector. Even the pepper mill top was loose and had a lot of play. If they would have better quality control and a better fine grind, this would be spot on. Maybe Cooks Illustrated needs to re-evaluate. | 0% There are no reviews yet | 0% There are no reviews yet | 1% Prefer pepper that has a nice cracked pepper flavor for salads and such July 6, 2017 Hot and flavorless. Prefer pepper that has a nice cracked pepper flavor for salads and such. Not a high quality product. November 12, 2014 I usually buy Penzey's peppercorns, but thought I'd try something different this time. Penzey's come very clean, only peppercorns in the package. The Spicy World pacage contained peppercorns, stems and other unidentifiable junk. It's not bad enough problem for me to return the package, because I can pick out the "junk" by hand. However, this is not a quality product. True Tellicherry Peppercorns? July 21, 2011 It is said that the Tellicherry is "the largest of the peppercorns". The product that I received must be from a miniature variant. Measuring in at a scant 2.5mm, my grinder turns these little corns into dust, even at the coarsest setting. The taste however, is excellent. I will utilize these in recipes calling for "hand-cracked" peppercorns, and will use a light hand when I do. | 0% There are no reviews yet |
One Star Reviews: | 3% This peppermill has never worked properly. I have to ... September 16, 2017 This peppermill has never worked properly. I have to shake the peppercorns upside down first and then attempt to grind. I did not purchase on Amazon but a retail store. I am quite certain Amazon would have refunded me. This thing is junk. I have used Peugeot mills in the past...you get what you pay for. Very disapointing after all the great reviews March 23, 2017 We have only had this grinder a couple of months and it already is not working very well, no better thatn the cheap ones I have bought in the past and keep replacing. I had hoped that at this price it would be a great grinder for a long time. Very dissappointing as I am past my window to return it. I thought this thing would be super high-quality and would grind pepper absolutely perfectly it's no ... September 7, 2015 Wtf!! I can't believe I paid this much for A salt and pepper shaker. I thought this thing would be super high-quality and would grind pepper absolutely perfectly it's no better than the $10 one I had before and in fact I find myself using the cheap one because it grinds pepper better than this one does. My wife is constantly making fun of me going how is your $78 pepper shaker working out? Save your money I will sell you mine for five dollars because that's all it's worth Recommended by Cook's Country November 15, 2014 Recommended by Cook's Country, so I bought it. I couldn't adjust grind using grabbing a strap wrench, and after I'd changed grind level twice, I couldn't adjust grind at all. No better than the mills at 20% of the price. Returned Pepper Mill had defect June 2, 2014 The pepper mill was delivered with a defect (plastic piece did not evenly fit on metal bottom). I'm returning and NOT getting a replacement based on other problems documented in reviews. Broke Immediately - A Common Defect? July 3, 2013 Chances are that you found this product from the excellent review it got from Cooks Illustrated. I did. However, if you do a search of the Amazon reviews, there are a few low rated reviews and most of those are based upon a broken top. Persuaded by the overwhelming number of positive reviews, I disregarded the warnings of the tops breaking and purchased the pepper and salt set.Unfortunately, the top to my salt mill broke on its first turn out of the box. I'll post a photo on Amazon to help explain the defect in my salt mill. The top to the mill is made up of a plastic piece and a metal piece. The plastic piece acts like a lid to a jar or in this case the mill and, when turned, causes the mill to grind the pepper or salt. A stainless steel cover/cap fits over the plastic lid to make it look nice. To prevent the steel cap from merely spinning over the sides of the plastic lid when turned, a tooth is welded inside the steel lid, which is supposed to fit into a notch built into the plastic lid. However, the notch to the plastic lid is rather shallow and the torsion from spinning the mill caused the tooth of the cap to jump out of the notch. So now the notch no longer holds the tooth; and turning the metal cap causes it to spin around the plastic lid rather than causing it to turn the plastic lid and mill. If you look at my photo, you'll also see a point or horn protruding from the top of the plastic lid that tapers to point that is glued or welded to the cap, to prevent the cap from being pulled away from the plastic lid. Unfortunately, since the notch doesn't hold the tooth, the torsion from turning the top caused the glue or welding to separate and now the metal top easily falls off.I'm sure that this falls within both Amazon's and Cole and Mason's return policies but I think I'm going to choose a refund rather than an exchange. I've seen enough reviewers with broken tops to look to other brands. | 0% There are no reviews yet | 0% There are no reviews yet | 2% sticks and dust December 28, 2016 Last time I ordered this I gave it 5 stars but this time the package is loaded with dust and pieces of sticks. We are going to have to take the whole bag and weed through it. Don't get me wrong the pepper is great but I wasn't planning on processing 16 ounces of pepper to get twigs out of it. This photo is just what I took out of my pepper grinder. My feeling is this bag was from the bottom of the batch. This is a do not buy warning September 19, 2016 1 star because it is pepper but it is not Tellicherry. This pepper was very bland almost dusty tasting worst pepper I've ever had. I feel I was deceived with this product and here's why. Tellicherry peppercorns and regular black pepper both come from the the same vine the species Piper Nigrum. The fruit is picked from the vines and dried into what we know as black peppercorns then the peppercorns are taken to a grabling facilities where a machine sorts them by size. The various peppercorn sizes are called different things and sold for different prices. So a Tellicherry peppercorn determined by size. When a peppercorn is 4.5 mm or larger it is Tellicherry. Tellicherry makes up only 10% of a crop and command a higher price. In the 16oz bag of pepper I received there may have been 1 oz that would make the grade Tellicherry.Absolutely will not purchase anything from spice world again .I did add some photo I really hate these Peppercorns July 14, 2016 I really hate these Peppercorns. They are NOT Tellicherry peppercorns. I have bought real telllicherry peppercorns, these are average at best. This is fraud to call these Tellicherry.. If you want real Tellicherry peppercorns You will find they are not cheap, but they are worth it. I was buying mine from Spices etc.. They raised the price so I was looking for them cheaper. else where... I will not do it again. I was looking forward to receiving this pepper. I ... July 1, 2015 I was looking forward to receiving this pepper. I even bought a battery operated pepper & salt grinder to grind it. The pepper was not only hard and dry, but had other stuff in it as well. BOTTOM LINE, I COULD NOT GRIND IT. Will never purchase this again. | 0% There are no reviews yet |
