Five Star Reviews: | 80% So Pleased! August 3, 2017 I bought two sets and I'm so glad I did. So pretty! I wrote on them with an acrylic paint marker to make sure I'd remember what the coriander and the cardamom were. The other two are loaded up with Himalayan pink salt and black pepper. I love that they sit with the business end up so they don't spill or rest on the counter. I love that the fineness of the grind can be adjusted. I love that I can grind just a little bit of my other whole seed spices when I want it. I may buy another set for mustard and allspice. and they still work and look as good as when they were originally purchased April 18, 2017 Our family has had these for almost a year. They are well made and attractive, and they still work and look as good as when they were originally purchased. We use them constantly in the kitchen and at the table. We actually don't use them at the table much, but if we feel we need a set of salt and pepper shakers/grinders, we are pleased to put them out because they are very attractive and solid. Superb Customer Service December 26, 2015 I bought this set on 6/1/2015 and was very satisfied with it. On 12/18/15, I tried tightening the screw adjusting the fineness of the ground salt particles, but found it was solidly frozen. When I checked further, I realized the salt had gotten moist due to humidity, corroding the moveable parts. I tried to loosen the adjustment screw with hot water, to no avail. I resorted to pliers, but it broke off completely. I wrote to Simple Kitchen Products on 12/20/15, via Amazon, explaining my problem and the steps I had taken. They responded the next day, saying “You paid for a quality product and when unfortunate issues occur, we will back our quality products with our premium warranty. We want to make this right. To move this process along, can you please send a picture of the defective grinder for our quality control efforts?” I emailed several photos back. A few hours later, Amazon notified me a replacement grinder top had been shipped to me from Simple Kitchen Products, free of charge. It arrived two days later, on 12/23/15. This degree of service to customers is rare today. I have recommended this product to friends and family in the past because it is a quality product. Now I recommend it twice as much, because it is backed by a quality-minded and customer service-minded company, as well! Bob Dillon plastic grinder assembly broke apart completely during 2nd peeper corn fill-up usage. July 16, 2015 This worked until the plastic housing that holds the ceramic grinder piece sheared apart after the 2nd fill with pepper corns. This resulted in a whole large pot of chili ruined with pieces of back plastic and large pieces of pepper. The scary part is that I undoubtedly ingested some of the plastic unknowingly previous to this final breakdown incident while the plastic was in the process of shearing off its holdings of the ceramic grinder piece. I previously gave this product 5 stars when i first used it. Now, I am stuck with the 3 other identical grinders that i use for sea salts and pepper. Do i toss them so i do not eat any more plastic? Outstanding Quality & Impeccable Customer Service! May 5, 2015 We love these! Perfect size for our relatively small dining table, easy to use, very stylish. There's a small disc in the top with a series of small to large indicators for quickly and easily adjusting the size of the grind, on the fly. When we were shopping for grinders, one of the issues we had was determining their relative size. Many photos of many products don't really include anything in the shot to reference for sizing, so it's difficult to visualize how big or small they actually are. So I've uploaded a couple of shots here, including one with the grinder in hand, to help others quickly determine the exact size of these. I think their perfect—not too big, not too small. An important note: one of the grinders was damaged in shipping—but when the seller learned of my return request, they immediately contacted me and offered to ship me a replacement, no charge, so I wouldn't have to go through the hassle of boxing/returning the set, waiting for the refund, then re-ordering a replacement set, and waiting for it to arrive. Within a couple of days, we got the replacement, and have been using them every since. This is the type of outstanding customer service I hold in high regard (sorry, I'm old-school), and which seems to be becoming quite the rarity today. I am highly pleased with both the product, and especially the service, of this company. Would highly recommend them to anyone. | 71% Great for vacation rentals December 6, 2016 I was searching for something for my vacation rentals that would replace the disposable grinders and that looks a lot nicer. The minimal stainless style fits in nicely with the rest of my kitchen appliances. It's also very practice to be able to see how much is left in each of the chambers so I quickly know when it needs refilling. It's big enough so it doens't get lost and holds enough so I don't have to refill it very often. Now I can buy high quality salt and pepper in bulk for my guests and still save a lot over purchasing the smaller dispensers. I also don't like the waste created by the disposable grinders. This grinder works really well and my guests have been happy with it. One person must have liked it a lot since one recently went missing. So I'm buying another to replace it. So good, I bought a second! July 4, 2016 I bought this as a present for my wife and she has shown me how to use it. I always thought you just turned the collar of the grinder and you were done. After being "trained" by the wife, I have come to appreciate the following:1) This grinder is durable and has yet to fall off. We purchased this on July 25, 2015 and it is now July 4, 2016. I honestly expected to replace this after 6 months2) The coarse sea salt that my wife has selected along with the coarse black pepper grinds up very nicely with this grinder. It seems to handle the "rocks" parts of the seasoning very well.3) The end caps are very nice and add a touch of elegance but we ended up tossing the end caps into a drawer (we use this 3 times a day).4) Most people think, "Its a nice looking grinder, but its still a GRINDER". I truthfully cannot say that i have used a wooden grinder, or a higher quality grinder (say over $200) but when my mother in law comes over and uses it and she is impressed, then that means that I have chosen well. It is very smooth in operation BUT not so smooth that it becomes boresome.Over the last year, I have yet to find a fault with it. In fact, I ended up buying a second one and the second one is identical to the fit/finish as the first one. Good quality grinder! December 5, 2015 In hindsight I'm not sure I really care for having a salt grinder, I mean salt tastes the same whether you grind it right away or a year ago, but one could easily just fill both chambers up with pepper. It's good to have that option. I do like the look and design of this mill, the size seems just right as well. It's not absurdly large as some pepper mills are, and it's also not so small that you need to frequently refill it.One thing to mention that I didn't really think about before buying is that the caps easily pop on and off, so I usually pop it off and leave it on the counter, then just set the mill on top of the cap to pop it back in. I know that doesn't really sound interesting but when you are moving around a lot in the kitchen it's nice to just set it down on its cap and not have to two hand the thing to get the cap back on. I'm usually moving around in the kitchen a lot because I'm a bad cook, haha.I do wish there was an electronic version of this though. Other than that I love this thing and use it a lot!::::Update - 2/2017I just wanted to add an update that I'm still using this grinder and really like it. One of the caps has become lose and falls off a bit easier than the other side, but it's not a big deal. Overall I've been very happy with this! Wonderful product September 25, 2015 My husband had been shopping for a combo salt and pepper grinder to take to work with him for several months. When he found this one on Amazon he thought long and hard, because so often grinders turn out not to work so well. He finally broke down and ordered it, and when it arrived he played with it for ages before finally taking it to work. He was so smug when everyone there was blown away by his new toy. He informed them "It is a useful tool, not a toy." He couldn't be more pleased with it. It grinds perfectly, and it's also easy to load. One feature he was not sure about was whether it would be difficult to keep the salt and peppercorns separate while loading, but the two compartments are isolated and loaded is a snap. Solid Unit, Amazing Value June 16, 2015 Good quality mill set, all in one is a great selling point. Unit opens easily, but also stays closed unless accessed. the window is not glass, but acrylic and seems solid. Easily turned by hand without any unusual force, and fully adjustable ground sizing for your own preferred salt and pepperCons: There are no instructions, but really it shouldn't require any. It's light, though not so light it will blow off your counter! AMAZING! March 8, 2015 This product is AMAZING! Four Star Reviews: | 10% good product April 7, 2017 these seem to be pretty strong and durable they do grind well you do have to tighten the grinder wheel down to get a finer grind and remember handwriting a lot of spice does take some time but they do well for what they're intended good product for a good price A Good Utility Grade Glass & Stainless Grinder Set November 16, 2016 Pros:Attractive, simple, clean design which is ergonomic and stable: It looks good; fits well in the hand when using; and is not prone to tipping over.They are easy to fill. They take up little space yet hold a enough product to allow for infrequent refills.Cons:This product is listed as a "premium" glass and stainless grinder set. Considering the glass containers which hold the spice exhibit a conspicuous mold seam I would not describe the set as premium.My order arrived with a slight scratch on one of the end caps: not that noticeable, not worth sending back.Perhaps a slightly stronger spring would make the grind adjustment a bit more stable, although it works pretty well as it is.Overall I'm very pleased with these mills. They do the job and are easy to use. Good grinder August 26, 2016 Solid product, and nice looking The grinders are a bit larger than I expected, but that's not a bad thing. They can be easily disassembled for thorough cleaning. When you wash them, be sure to leave the stainless steel top out to dry for several days - maybe try shaking it to get water out. If the grinder is not perfectly dry, your salt will stick. The grinder mechanism is quite good and easily adjustable, although I have found that the salt gets too finely ground sometimes, despite loosening the grinding tension. The nice thing is that this grinder will also work on coriander (which is perfect for my needs). The grinders come nicely packaged in a box with a good instruction booklet, so it is nice enough to give as a gift. I would recommend this product and will be getting a second set for myself. Beware of sharp glass edge! February 22, 2016 Bought these on a whim, always wanted a pair of salt/pepper grinder but just never got around. They look very stylish and the glass part is big so it'll be a long while before I run out of either. The stainless steel finish is very smooth and blend in well on the table with other stainless piece I have. They didn't come with any peppercorn or salt as seen in picture so those would have to be purchased.The only reason I didn't give this a 5 star is the glass part, they weren't really well finished at the tip, it wasn't smoothed out well. When I first received them I decided to wash them first before filling and by sticking my index finger in with the sponge the sharp glass edge gave me 2 small cuts, it wasn't a big deal and likely I will not wash them again for a very long time but just beware.Overall still satisfied with the purchase and the price, would recommend to a friend. Decent grinders for the price December 12, 2015 I had read previous reviews on this product before ordering, so there were no surprises. The glass does indeed have a vertical seam running down it, which would disqualify it for a nice dinner setting in my opinion. I have a plastic jar of peppercorns with a built-in grinder that looks better assuming there were no label. You have to consider the price, I guess. But, I just plan to use the grinders for cooking. The grinders do work the way I was wanting, so I am satisfied in that respect. Previous reviews mentioned that one grinder wheel is mounted on three plastic struts, which is true. I'll just be careful to not apply a large amount of torque (which should not be necessary anyway) and I think it'll be fine.The grinders are easy to disassemble for cleaning. I would recommend leaving one assembled the first time just to make sure you have a model to use in case you don't remember exactly how it goes back together. There are only about five pieces or so, so it's really no big deal. After cleaning, each grinder dried pretty quickly when left disassembled. I'm happy that it's glass but it kinda dumps the salt ... May 20, 2015 I'm happy that it's glass but it kinda dumps the salt out rather than evenly dispersing it. Doesn't have the harsh grinding that you would expect. It mostly turns the salt into powder. The top is plastic but the white grinder does seem to be ceramic. | 11% Great Features February 7, 2017 I've only had the grinder for a week so I don't know how it will hold up. I like that it is made of stainless steel, has 2 chambers for salt and spices, has different grind sizes, and has caps to contain the excess ground spices. The grinder mechanism seems sturdy. I don't like the height because it barely fits in my spice cupboard though it may not matter to others. I ground fennel seed to see it they would fall through and not get ground. The grinder did an excellent job with the 2 grind sizes I tried. Good looking product that is well built and sturdy January 4, 2016 Well constructed Salt & Pepper Mill. Relatively easy to load with salt and peppercorns. I like the feature that I can see the remaining amount and then know when to add accordingly. I wasn't sure whether you could adjust the grind, especially on the peppercorns, as sometimes it is better to grind it fine and other times, to have a coarse grind. Maybe I'll have to get another pepper mill that has adjustable grind. I do a like of cooking and it is essential to have a good salt/pepper mill handy. I bought this for my wife since our last pepper grinder went belly up. Overall, my wife has been very pleased. She enjoys that this grinder can hold two differen th spices. The grinder is also very aesthetically pleasing.The only thing my wife has complained about is the lids. She is worried since they are removable she is going to lose them (this is really more her own forgetfulness as opposed to the product itself).I would certainly recommend this product to anyone looking to upgrade their current grinder. Today the pepper grinder quit to do its one job. The salt grinder quit to do its one job as of Oct. 2016. They worked fine while they lasted but barely a year old and they both break. Inexcusable. There seems to be a design flaw in the grinding mechanism itself or just cheap components. Quality of products went out the window many years ago with all companies. The bottom line is there just ain't no money in long lasting products anymore, make them cheap and let them break and the consumer will come back for more. Rinse and repeat...oy vey!!! Update 1-9-17: Well I gotta say SK does stand up to there lifetime guarantee. Grant my man you are as good as your word, I just received two new grinders in a record time, incredibly fast. Thank you sir. I've reconsidered my 1 star rating and will now update to a full 3 stars. Now don't get your panties in a bunch about the 3rd star only (1 star for a faulty product but 5 stars for a quick prompt response) 6/2= 3 stars. Most companies want an all out positive review for there product line the moment you received such product. Since we all live in the real world that is just not feasible without using there product for an extended amount of time. Now the first two grinders barely lasted just past the one-year mark I will adjust the star review system accordingly after the first full year of these new grinders. We will all cross our fingers. Stay tuned. Broke after ~19 months of use December 13, 2016 Bought this set April 1, 2015 and overall they were great, especially love the larger amount you can store in each grinder. You can vary the coarseness with a little turn dial thing where the spice comes out, not the "neck" fyi. My problem is that the pepper grinder just broke, specifically the grinding mechanism broke out and whole peppercorns and plastic fell into my hot pan. That was really difficult to remove, and not ruin the meal. Damaged first order :( September 2, 2016 I was so excited to receive these yesterday, but when I went to wash them inside one of the grinders had a piece broken off from the plate that holds the grinder mechanism. I came back over to Amazon, thinking they would swap this out. Instead my only option was a return/refund. Do I need to reorder the item?? I can't wait to actually have a whole set and get to use these, I really love the look of them. Grinds very well, mechanism not robust September 14, 2015 Excellent spice grinders. I bought these to use for salt and pepper table dispensers, Malabar black pepper corns, and kosher salt were used in the grinders, and worked quite well for a while. However after four months of use the pepper grinder suffered a failure. The central support for the grinding mechanism broke loose from the housing rendering it inoperable. Great for the money July 22, 2015 I picked these up for around $25 bucks on here. They were much larger than expected but nothing too big. I have a couple complaints with these. First of all the salt dumps out pretty quickly. I dont care much for the pepper, but I dont like extremely salty meals. Secondly, the tops I do not like. The caps eventually become loose and no longer stay on. One of the twist ends of the grinder became loose and simply twisted right off - it had to be super-glued back to make it work again. I've lost track of the number of dinner guests who, after a couple bottles of wine, in the midst of conversation and in candlelight, have salted a salad into inedibility. Lots of different brands can be found selling the same thing, there is nothing special about this one being YAMO branded. Overall the price is about what you would pay to ship it over yourself, so not bad. The quality seems ok, though I wish they used glass instead of plastic.If you are looking for a cheap mill, it does an ok job. Though I would likely spend a bit more and get something nicer if I were to purchase again. |

Two Star Reviews: | 4% Not great July 4, 2017 These are just alright. Had them about a year and the salt grinder corroded to the point where you couldn't adjust the coarseness of the grind. It broke trying to twist the adjustment knob. I managed to drill out the broken screw and use another screw from the top to lock it together enough to use for a short while before it broke the plastic assembly under the grinder. It did this and dumped it's contents on a guest's plate of food. Not a huge deal but irritating. They lose adjustment and need to be tightened up often. If you let the adjustment get too loose then the grinder gets out of the stepped part of the shaft making the grind very coarse. You have to take it apart and get it seated back in place holding it down against spring pressure to get it back together. I am going to try something different. Great.... For a short time... Plastic internal breaks easily. January 5, 2017 Poor quality plastic internal parts, one Broke in a few months, the co-founder quickly answered email and promptly sent out a replacement. A few months later the other broke, again they quickly replaced it.. A few months later the 3rd one broke... All due to a lack of quality /design. Now I am to send back the broken part at my expense, I will invest $$$ in a quality salt and pepper grinder and stop this madness...the wife and I used them about 5 to 6 times per week to prepare meals. the company is willing to replace it and are very nice. Unfortunately due to the poor quality of internal plastic that breaks under normal residential use, I would rather pay a few more$$$ for better quality and save our land fills...it's too bad because I really liked them when they worked... Sorry to be so critical... Just being honest.... Disappointment... May 3, 2016 I bought this set just under a year ago. Throughout the year I could tell it was gradually loosing grinding power. I washed it by hand, let it totally air dry, and that seemed to solve the problem for a short while. However, almost to the day, a year later, I will have to replace the salt grinder. (I use coarse Celtic Sea Salt in my grinder.) The grinder has rusted and the top of center 'screw' that the grinding system turns on has broken off...no more grinding! My husband and I are of retirement age and we are the only ones using the set on a daily basis. It has been well cared for.The pepper grinder still works great. Evidently the salt grinder just couldn't stand up to the moisture of a good quality sea salt. I liked the looks of the set Worked great for 5 months April 9, 2016 Worked great for 5 months. Pepper mill lost setting after daily use at 4 months of use Now at about 5 months of use the inside just fell apart. Not a happy camper am I... Please find a different brand to purchase and save yourself the headache of poor quality. Seemed nice at first but they do kinda dump the seasoning on and the fine/course settings lock up. November 15, 2015 UPDATE: 1-22-2016 Ok So I've had these for a little while now and I gotta knock 2 stars off of my original review. They have a nice weight and feel nice in the hand but 2 major problems I have that make these very dissatisfying. 1. The salt just dumps on most of the time. So you have some spots that get a nice sprinkle of salt and others a mountain. 2. My other problem is the settings for how course or fine you can make the salt or pepper get stuck all the time. The spinner is spring.loaded and stuff gets stuck in there all the time. I like the look, and the overall feel but for what they're suppose to do, they disappoint. I'd much rather stick with throw away ones you get from the grocery store because they work very well, they're just a pain to force open and refill. INITIAL THOUGHTS I've had these about 2 weeks so far and right now I'm happy with them. They are definitely a bit bigger than I thought which is good, I was afraid they were going to be a little too small. I've tried out a few grinders from the big box stores and they were cheap plastic and more expensive. The stainless steel and glass feel quite solid so I'm quite happy with the quality. The lids aren't terribly thick but they snap on nice and stay there. The whole reason I went looking for new grinders was because I hated spending the extra money for throw away grinders and I was tired of forcing the McCormick throw away grinders apart just to refill them and because I couldn't find any with lids. | 4% Nice looking. I took both ends apart and could not see any visible defect but it just would not rotate. So I have no choice other than return it. Made of plastic, not stainless steel February 26, 2016 Far from "premium quality stainless steel" this device is basically plastic with a thin cosmetic metalic veneer. It does grind peppercorns but the crystal salt sticks and does not flow freely. It's barely a step up from the cheap all-plastic Costco grinders that come with the salt/pepper. Also the end caps are too tight and require prying off before use, making it very inconvenient while cooking. Not the quality I was looking for or expecting based on the description. Somewhat disappointing - received with absolutely no directions and the ... February 12, 2016 Somewhat disappointing - received with absolutely no directions and the design is a bit confusing. The capacity is on the low side and the cap removal when you are in the grind mode and ready to pulverize requires a bit of force that can jeopardize your fingernails. It is not intuitive and the grind seems a bit weak. Poor Performance, not designed well for quickly adding seasonging. September 27, 2015 I have a 2 in 1 grinder that this unit was to replace since its been in use for many years and some of the plastic is worn. This unit does not grind course salt such as Celtic Sea Salt well at all. You also have to flip the unit over and remove a cap to grind. My old grinder could grind both salt and pepper with a twist to left or right depending on what you wanted. No flipping over and removing a cap. Pepper grinding works good. Salt Grinding barely works at all. Not Ceramic! September 7, 2015 I bought this in April 2015 and it says it is ceramic but mine seems like plastic. I can not turn the dial tight enough so it comes out almost whole and to much at once. They claim it will last but it didn't. The white part has grinded down which makes me think it came out in my food. Very disappointed in the product. |

One Star Reviews: | 3% Don't buy. Just awful... December 8, 2016 There really should be a "no star" option for these ratings. After only a couple of weeks, the silver plastic part of the salt AND pepper grinders had separated. The tiny (fairly sharp-edged) ring at the top must be uncomfortably grasped in order to twist the grinders. Fooled again!.. September 15, 2016 What I believed was a quality product lasted for about two weeks of light use. One of the grinders would not let me adjust the grind fineness. It wouldn't rotate. It wouldn't budge. It was ruined in the process. Update:the second grinder w/pepper snapped in the same place. Surface of the first one shows discoloration from salt corrosion. August 10, 2016 Worked fine for a few months however when I tried to open it to add more salt the screw that holds the top portion of grinder had corroded and was stuck. So I tried soaking it for 10 minutes before unscrewing but it snapped rendering it unusable. . After about 6 months of use corrosion has formed on the metallic surface. These were used inside my home on the dining room table. This product is advertised as a stainless steel salt & pepper shaker yet cannot stand up to the effects of salt corrosion. Look elsewhere or be very disappointed as I am. See photos. Bad batch January 6, 2016 Must've got a bad batch. The glass reservoir is defected. It has sharp edges like there was a bubble there and it cracked. So I just threw it away. Do Not buy. December 26, 2015 This came broke, the quality is way less than when I bought it for a gift at Christmas. I just bought this again and it cheap crap DO NOT BUY! When testing it out before filling them one of the grinders worked ok but felt super cheap, the other grinder did not work at all. Every time I tried to turn the grinder it would not turn just unscrew the top from the base. | 8% I'd not recommend this unit March 23, 2016 Was initially very excited about this unit on account of its beauty and functionality, but after using it for a few short months it broke while I was simply grinding some pepper onto my salad. The plastic cracked where it has the "screw" inclines, i.e. the par that screws into the metal grinder on the pepper side. The plastic casing is thinner gauge at that point, thus it must be a weak spot. I'd not recommend this unit. The designers skimped on gauge, as is quite clear. I'd expect to be able to use this grinder for many years, not a four or five months. Not good! Avoid it, please. One Star January 17, 2016 Most people won't bother writing a review a year after buying a product, so this product's rating is artificially way too high.It is a nice idea and saves space in the kitchen, but the grinding mechanism is weak. The packaging was extremely minimal, and once opened, I understood why. This item was clearly used by someone else, as there were still bits of pepper on one side of the container, as well as smudges on the inside. The grinding mechanism is made of pure plastic, which I don't expect to last long at all. I wish I had read some of the other bad reviews before purchasing this item, as many others are having similar problems. Zero confidence in seller. Salt side of the shaker will rust out on you if you live in a humid climate. January 2, 2016 I must say I was really disappointed with this product because I had such high expectations based on the positive reviews. However, I have used the product and discovered that it rusts out after the period that I could have returned it, so I'll just chock this up to a life lesson. I should have read the negative reviews instead of all the positive reviews. I just want to warn the other folks out there that the salt part of this product has not been manufactured to avoid the inevitable rust that salt causes on metal via the oxidation process. I should have known better and blame myself. I'm writing this so anyone reading this does not make the same mistake I made. I live in a humid climate, and I should have known better...On a positive note, if you live in a dry part of the country like Arizona, you probably will never experience the problem of rust with this product. But if you are in an area with humid weather, buyer beware of the rust in the salt side of this product. Horrible September 18, 2015 I don't often write reviews but this is the worst salt/pepper mill I have ever happened upon. The pepper mechanism stopped working almost immediately. The grinder pieces landed in my vinaigrette a number of times. I quickly had to abandon that side and just use the salt. The stopper on the bottom now does not fit and will not stay attached to the grinder for storage, so needless to say, there is salt everywhere. A huge disappointment. I guess I shouldn't have expected very much considering the price, but the reviews were so favorable. Carpal Tunnel syndrome is not a good trade off for fresh pepper... August 28, 2015 This shaker is cheaply made and isn't very functional. When you turn it you need super strength for anything to grind. Half the time it unscrews when trying to grind pepper. It takes everything I can do to get anything to come out. I'm going to throw it out as soon as I find another one.UPDATE: I have figured out that you can use this without hurting yourself if you unscrew it half way. It's a very strange design. You have to find the perfect balance of almost opening the place where you put the salt or pepper without actually taking it off. It's still a piece of junk. |
