Finally, A Great Salt Mill
June 6, 2016
I love salt and like to grind my own so to a grain that best suits the dish I'm using it on. Over the past 5 years or so, I have gone through at least 5 different grinders--the latest one making an ear-piercing shriek while grinding. Determined to get the perfect salt mill, I researched for myself on the Internet. Again and again, I found that Sage was recommended because of its high quality ceramic blades, its easy-to-change grain size, and its reasonable cost. I bought it and can only say that the reviews were spot on. I love Himalayan pink and Crltic grey, and the mill works like a charm on these salts. Thanks to Amazon for making the Sage salt mill available.
Decent purchase : Sage stainless steel grinder set
February 8, 2016
I found this product while looking to replace a set of cheap plastic grinders that had stopped functioning. Using the reviews I decided on this brand. Ordering was easy, in typical Amazon style.

The follow up emails from the seller were a good customer service touch. They contained valueable use and cleaning instructions as well aa suggestions of quick recipes. I have not tried any of the recipes so I cannot evaluate their culinary design skills.

I had to adjust my grinder using grip to avoid accidentally unlocking the unit while in use. I usually twist clockwise and anticlockwise in quick motions. That led to unlocking but thankfully, no spilling. I now just twist clockwise.

It has only been about 2 weeks since it had been in use so u cannot evaluate longevity at this time. However, I hope and expect that this set will last longer than the plastic set I previously owned.
Great Stainless steel pepper grinder
January 3, 2016
I have been using this product for two months and till now I have no complains. The grinder looks great and it functions quiet well. I use peppercorns in my grinder. It is easy to use and refill. The clear plastic panel tells me when it is time to refill my grinder. I liked the simple twist at the base that helps you to grind from fine to coarse. Overall I am satisfied with my purchase and I would be buying this grinder again.
Great Grinders, Get them for Salt and Pepper Both!
June 11, 2015
Don't do what I did and buy regular gourmet chef salt for this grinder, it's too fine. Make sure you buy MEDIUM COARSE sea salt, Himalayan or Hawaiian are both good.

Then make sure you don't do the other thing wrong that I did and fill the grinder up and leave it on the counter without checking to see that the top arrow and lower arrow are aligned. Because then it makes a mess, and when you complain to the nice customer service people at Sage they very politely explain that you are simply supposed to align the two arrows, and then you feel ridiculous because the instructions totally specify this quite clearly.

June 1, 2015
I've been using Himalayan sea salt and grinding with a good acrylic grinder that works well on pepper corn but really couldn't handle the salt. It would not stay tight enough to grind the salt so it was reasonably fine. I don't find hunks of salt appetizing. This grinder doesn't have any trouble grinding the salt to a finer more usable result. And is a solid, substantial price of kitchen equipment. It doesn't require more torque as you twist and the salt chunks engage the grinder. I looked at quite a few grinders because I hate buying a new item to replace one I'm unhappy with only to be bummed out with the new one. This thing is top notch. Great product and a great value. Thanks!

September 4, 2017
Well this was a great find! I love this salt! It seems saltier than regular sea salt, for example. I love to use the finer grind. Also, a nice bonus: of you're tired of searching for popcorn salt, and when you find it, it's that awful stuff that got MSG in it, well LOOK NO MORE! This pink salt makes the perfect popcorn salt! PS: when I'm refilling my salt grinder, I love to pop one salt rock in my mouth. It's delicious! A nice experience!

August 18, 2017
I have been using this salt for about a month now, and I love it! It goes really great with my SpiceCraft Salt/pepper mill, and looks so pretty, you hate to use it! Plus, this salt is apparently better for you, as it is packed with loads of minerals that are essential to our bodies. It's a bit pricier than I expected, but I imagine 5 lbs will last quite a while! Very happy with this purchase, and when I run out, I will definitely purchase it again!
Himalayan Pink Salt Course by The Spice Lab's = ^5 Stars All The Way!!!
January 14, 2017
I got 2 kilos of this Himalayan Pink Salt Course by The Spice Lab's for just under $9.00. Excellent quality, really from the hills of the Himalaya's, extra minerals than white salt, and it can be used for respiratory and/ or sinus therapy with a nebulizer, atomizer, and/ or humidifier (read in answered questions sections on Amazon and elsewhere online), as well as this is a spice for food and is natural as the earth itself. Extremely happy with my purchase, and I highly recommend for people that are more health conscious and care about what they put into their bodies. ^5 Stars All The Way!!! :)
Great beautiful tasting pink crystals that are all natural BUT have a few rocks to filter out
February 21, 2016
This is a great value for a great product. Being that it is all natural and that this comes in a bag of 2+ pounds of crystals, natural there are some rocks in here that you need to weed out. So prior to putting in your mill/grinder, you do need to weed carefully through these to ascertain you do not get any rocks ‚these will ruin your grinder. There are not many in them but you can definitely see them—they are gray, brown and look far from pink or rose. This does taste wonderful and it looks stunning in a clear class grinder. This salt is NOT IODIZED so if that is an important compound for you, this is not the product for you but if you want a great tasting salt and don't mind sifting through some crystal, this is great! Will be back much later to purchase again, but i see this lasting for quite some time.
Perfect For Your Grinder!
August 3, 2015
Exactly what I wanted! It's perfect for my salt and pepper grinder from SpiceCrafts Salt & Pepper Grinder Set - Stainless Steel - Clear Acrylic Body - 2 in 1 Dual Action. The attached pic shows a relative size.
You're going to love this salt.
August 18, 2014
I buy this every time I run out and I have never been disappointed. The 2.2 lb bag last a long time. It is such a good value to buy it here than the overpriced bags they sell in the grocery stores. I only buy this salt off amazon from Spice Labs. Spice Labs has never let me down.I used to use just kosher salt all the time, but this Himalayan salt is much more tasty and not so terribly salty like kosher or regular table salt. I use it in everything I cook that needs some added salt. My boyfriend loves it so much that when we run out he asks, "You're going to order some more right?!" ;)We both prefer the taste of Himalayan salt over any other. The second time around that I ordered this Spice Labs sent me a little wooden salt spoon with some paper cards advertising their other products (apparently they sell Himalayan salt shot glasses, that's pretty cool!), I was delighted to get a small free gift with my purchase. :)Also shipping is always so fast, so you don't have to wait long for your salt fix. xD

Really yummy!
July 15, 2017
I was skeptical about ordering peppercorns on Amazon. These are amazing! They are much better tasting than the other brands I have tried! My hubby usually does not like freshly cracked pepper & prefers ground pepper. He really enjoys this one. I was shocked! I highly recommend.
Outstanding aroma and flavor, not your usual black pepper.
November 22, 2016
I love this pepper. The moment you open the bag, you can smell the difference between Tellicherry and regular peppercorns. They're more fragrant, and a richer, more complex flavor. Not the hard, acrid bite of regular black pepper. This pepper was, allegedly, one the 11 'secret herbs and spices' used by a certain colonel on his fried chicken.
FLAVORFUL AND PUNGENT!
August 6, 2016
I always buy Tellicherry Peppers because I have found them to be pungent, and flavorful. These arrived soon after I ordered them and are very fresh tasting. I grind these peppercorns and use on everyday, almost on everything but especially when cooking Indian, Mexican, or Chinese food. It is best to store them in a glass jar while keeping the rest in your pepper grinder for easy access.
Gourmet Quality Peppercorns - a bang for your buck!
February 10, 2016
I recommend this product! I needed some peppercorns to use in a new salt and pepper grinder set that i have. Since i was getting the set from Amazon i decided to go ahead and buy the peppercorns here! I nice heavyweight bag of peppercorns with a zip lock to close after you get out what you need. They grind up nice and have a nice smell and taste. What do you say about pepper? I am not a pepper expert, but i do know there is a huge difference between ready ground pepper and when you grind it yourself and I do know that when the bag runs out I will order the same again ! It seems that i got much more peppercorns for the money than if i would have made a quick run to the grocery store.
Pepper that is better than pepper!
September 18, 2015
It's pepper. But somehow it's better than pepper. It's like... super pepper? Ultra pepper? Crazy pepper. I like Crazy Pepper the best. I'm going to call this Crazy Pepper from now on. I've also added it to our Prime Pantry list to ship every six months. You wouldn't think there was that much difference between regular "mass produced" pepper (I feel weird even saying that) and this. But there is. Just try it. Get yourself a nice grinder.
The perfect black pepper
October 3, 2011
The peppercorns arrived on time and were sealed, air tight, in a thick plastic bag. I cook on a regular basis at home. I think tellicherry peppercorns are the best black pepper taste. I got some variety peppercorns years ago for my grinder, and I forgot what I was missing. Now I've got a huge supply of awesome peppercorns for stews and my grinder. This product is probably more the size that a restaurant would buy but it smells and tastes amazing, I'll share some with my neighbors.

In general I like it, good product
July 24, 2016
In general I like it, good product. The only downside is the manual twist comes out not too much powder you have to keep twisting it, if you dont mind do some work. Personally I like to do it manually, cause less mechanical problem and actually you can keep the pepper in original form and in fresh, only breaks it when you use it.
Easy and smooth Grinder
July 22, 2016
I really liked this grinder. It worked really well for me, until my daughter dropped it. The plastic cracked and then the top silver part would not stay attached to the clear plastic part.
But it is a wonderful grinder. The grinding part was excellent. I had 2 cheap ones I picked up at Walmart, and the one was not even really a grinder but more of a slicer. It had a blade on it that came across the hole and "sliced" off chunks of pepper and salt. That didn't work well at all. I replaced it with another ones from Walmart that I looked at more carefully and was actually a grinder. But the grinding part was cheaply made and broke.
The ceramic part of this that did the grinding was excellent. It was a much better quality and the grinding action was easier to do and much more smooth.
I just wish my daughter had not dropped it, that's not the products fault though. I will likely order another one of these at some point.
I like tghe way it looks and it works fine.
March 8, 2016
Haven't had it that long. Use it for tellicherry pepper on table, having another for cooking. Have not tried for coarse grind. Serves my purpose well. Probably not as substantial feel as some more expensive alternatives. I have not had any problem with it opening unexpectedly, though the fact that this was a problem mentioned by other reviewers did concern me some. I like its clean lines.
Terrific grinder, just not exactly what I hoped for
December 14, 2015
I chose this grinder because other reviews and the description of the product all seemed to be saying that this grinder is capable of very coarse grind. I use sea salt to finish certain dishes and very often prefer the texture and crunch of chunks, rather than granules of sea salt. This grinder does everything its supposed to do very, VERY well. And it's fast - very high volume of output at all settings. But it doesn't get as coarse as I thought it would, so my review of 4/5 stars is in part because of failed expectations.

On the up side, it holds a lot of whatever you're grinding and is very easy to load. So if you want your salt fast, evenly ground and in the range of fine-medium, then this is a 5/5 no-brainer for the money. Performs as well as grinders costing three and four times the price.
Sleek design - love it!
April 30, 2015
Love the design - we use it for salt (our old one fell apart). The function takes a couple uses to get accustomed to it - you twist the top half. The bottom adjusts the size of the grind and the middle twists apart for refills. But really it's a no brainer - and I love the fact that you can get the exact size grain you want. Looks perfect with our stainless pepper grinder.

A Great-Tasting, Colorful Product
September 23, 2017
Like the taste, honestly couldn't care less about the color, although I guess some people think it's pretty...Initially, I thought this seemed 'saltier' than the regular white sea salt that we'd been using in our grinders. And I like that, 'cause -- let's face it, a lot of us love salty foods, despite their dubious effects on our health. I have been eating far more healthfully in recent years, though, and have also cut my salt consumption, to the point that I have learned to enjoy some things without salt that I used to really love WITH it. (Watermelon, for example...)After using this salt for several months, I don't think it's really 'saltier' anymore. I think that it's softer -- literally -- and grinds more easily, resulting in heavier portions as it falls off the grinder. With typical white sea salt, I find it fairly easy to vary the grind, so much that there can be a discernible grit to coarser settings. It doesn't seem to matter where I set the grinder wheel using this salt -- the result remains a fairly consistent powder. I can't really force a coarse grind, no matter how much I loosen the wheel. So I'm guessing that I'm actually using more, and it's evidenced by the fact that we're plowing through the first bag much more quickly than anticipated.Tastes great, though. Would buy again.
Reliable, no stones, sturdy bag, accurate weight.
August 25, 2017
Reliable. Haven't come across any stones that might break my grinders. Packaged well and accurate weight. Still pricey for salt, even if it is attractive and trendy.

February 13, 2017
Well I'm completely happy with the flavor of this salt I was disappointed in the coarseness. My bag of salt was very fine and it definitely doesn't need to pass through a grinder. I wanted a coarser salt.
Rock salt
April 11, 2015
A light pink color. I thought would look a little fashionable on my mill. Reviews said nice taste, so I went by that. Not a "wet" salt which some seem to be. Grinds nice.Over all fresh ground salt is way less saltier tasting than the fine table salt.Good for seasoning meat for that "crusting" when broiling or grilling chefs talk about.

Much larger than expected, though if I recall correctly, there were smaller sizes and I ordered the most effectively priced. The scent is musky and rich, though I am accustomed to a fruity black pepper, this should be what I want. My pepper grinder is full and there is enough to refill it again
Very Good Tasting Pepper.
June 26, 2016
This is a good-tasting pepper. It isn't quite as good as everyone stated in their reviews here, I thought. I had some peppercorns that came in a gourmet pepper mill I bought a couple of years ago that were really fantastic, and I can't find any that quite live up to that pepper. But this is much better than the peppercorns from the grocery store which mostly just make me sneeze. Very good pepper.

To me, pepper is pretty much pepper. The flavor does taste fresh and the smell makes me sneeze, so I guess it is good stuff. My husband, who COVERS his food in pepper says that this pepper is pretty special.

December 28, 2015
This was our first introduction to "upgraded" or "high end" black pepper, and our pepper use has dramatically increased. What the heck is that black powder people normally use . . sheesh. Grind it baby, grind it! It will make you sneeze Ahhhh- -chhhoouuuee, involuntary reaction, mmmmm yummy another irresistible reaction.
Good deal and a pound goes a long way!
June 3, 2015
All I can say is a pound of peppercorns are a heck of a lot. Regardless these peppercorns seemed somewhat dry but they grinded well in my grinder. The taste is also good. I also saved over $7 by redeeming my points from Amazon Card so paid only paid $5.80. Great deal either way. I shouldn't need any more for at least two years.
Good & Fresh; re-bag it
December 3, 2014
Good stuff. The only issue might be being too frugal. There are a lot of peppercorn here. If they last you over a year, you'll be well served to toss what's left and get a new batch. Sure, you could freeze them; double bag them, etc., but really?... Good... fresh ground pepper is so nice, compared to... WELL... that other stuff, why be too frugal?Bottom line tho... It's good and fresh when you get it. Just be sure to re-bag it right away to help keep it fresh.

Pretty but not as durable
August 12, 2016
Not at durable as expected
Functional albeit slow to grind. A bit oversized.
January 29, 2016
We have owned this black pepper grinder for over a year. It has maintained its appearance and continues to function, however I believe its grinding mechanism is not the best design as we have to take quite few turns before it seems to engage and produce pepper in any signifigant amount. Also the large height of the grinder makes it a bit cumbersome for cabinet storage. This grinder is better placed on a table or countertop.
So so.
July 19, 2015
My first impression of this pepper grinder was that it felt a little lightweight and chintzy. It Just doesn't really have a lot of heft.
Although it is made out of stainless steel it is very thin stainless steel. To get the pepper grander of my dreams I would probably have to pay two or three times the price. My Mercedes Benz or BMW of pepper grinders would have a little more of that "Fine tool" feeling some of us love. All that aside it seems to grind pretty well and the adjustment actually does change the pepper from course to fine flakes.
We were happily using it one day about a week into ownership when for some reason the lower half of the grinder fell off. Not the part that is supposed to come off so you can load the hopper with peppercorns. This was another seam below the clear plastic area where the peppercorns are stored. It was a bit disconcerting and I thought of returning it
but instead I just squirted a little crazy glue between the two plastic parts and stuck them back together. Seems to be staying together so far but I wasn't completely thrilled by that aspect.
The people that sold it to me through Amazon have sent me an email and so forth asking if I was satisfied and seem to be the type of company that goes the extra mile.
I like the appearance of the unit
July 19, 2015
I like the appearance of the unit. And I like the see through window to see how much peppercorns are left. But the grind is too fine for my tastes and there is no way to get a course grind from this grinder.

September 15, 2017

For salt and for pepper, but . . .
August 28, 2017
I purchased 2 of these Sage grinders for use mostly at the table; one I needed for salt and one for pepper. On the positive side they are very nice-looking and they are relatively inexpensive, hence their attraction on amazon. In use the grinders do feel flimsy though that in itself is not enough to disqualify the product.

When used for salt the grinder works well with a grind range of very fine to fine. Its usable even though it lacks the solid feel of a Peugeot or Perfex pepper mill (both I have used and both are quite a bit more costly). The problem with this Sage grinder is when using it with pepper. The grinders are adjustable but the peppercorns never seem to be gripped well by the grinding mechanism. This results in an inconsistent grind. In other words when you want very finely-ground pepper you will get larger flakes mixed in with the smaller pepper bits. When you want larger rough-ground pepper not much comes out with each turn because the peppercorns are never quite grabbed well by the grinding mechanism. You get the idea.

If you like the looks of the Sage and you need a basic salt mill, give it a try; it can be OK enough. If you need a pepper mill and value a pepper grind that is consistent and dependably adjustable, I would say it might be best to look elsewhere. Thanks!

February 20, 2017
I had this grinder for about a year and a half until one of the stainless sheathes came unglued from the grinding mechanism rendering the grinder essentially useless. Even in the first instance these grinder have a few flaws. When you set them down, salt and pepper or whatever it is falls out the bottom making a mess wherever you place them. If you want to fill it, it is a little tricky because you fill it from the middle, not the top. You can hypothetically fill up the entire grinder, but it isn't easy to do because in effect you have to fill the two halves and then hope you can get them together before your salt, pepper, or whatever goes spilling out all over. It doesn't grind very fine either - nor does it grind with any obvious consistency that I can ascertain. I was hoping to find something that was quality and would last for a reasonable price. Well - the price is right - but after one and a half years the product is shot and I honestly and surprised with myself for having tolerated the ridiculous design flaws in the first instance.
Okay...for smart people. Comically flawed for the uninitiated.
December 14, 2016
My parents wanted a refillable pepper mill. I purchased this based on positive reviews and low price. My dad and sister both accidentally opened the mill and covered their food in peppercorns the first time they used it. My dad did it the next meal too, and yelled for my mom to "Throw it away, it's obviously dysfunctional. It's ruined two dinners now!".

In short, the place you twist this open to fill it is just above the clear section. The area you twist to grind is the area just below the clear section. If a person simply grabs the upper metal section and does any leftward twisting, they will get a plate full of unground peppercorns.

I've taken this to my own home now, and I'm conscious of where to twist and where not to. The materials are nice, the finish quality good, and the grinding performance great. They just really should have made it more intuitive to use by incorporating a way to lock the fill area.

True Tellicherry Peppercorns?

Measuring in at a scant 2.5mm, my grinder turns these little corns into dust, even at the coarsest setting. The taste however, is excellent. I will utilize these in recipes calling for "hand-cracked" peppercorns, and will use a light hand when I do.

Throwing them out!!!
February 17, 2016
One star only because there are no zero star options! Coarse/Fine grind adjustment doesn't work (not even a Fine grind), keeps falling open (yes, I did make it "click" when closing after filling). Got it for a present for a gourmet cook's green and red peppers, only found out about the problems after I was out of the return period. Sending this review so I feel better when I throw them (two, no less!) out.

I'd add a picture except you can probably imagine a bunch of red peppercorns all over the plate, food and counter!
Poorly designed. Be prepared to clean up spilled peppercorn.

As others have mentioned, it's all too easy to accidentally open this while using it and have peppercorns spill all over your food and kitchen. This has happened to me twice, and now I'm afraid to use it. It's quite a pain to retrieve a hundred peppercorns from my stir fry. The problem stems from where you open it to load the peppercorn. It twists open where the top of the clear part meets the top part of the body. Since you have to twist the bottom to get it to grind, it's only natural that it will separate during use. They should have designed it such that you load the peppercorn from the top.
Grinder assembly barely held together
December 14, 2015
As noted by others, the grinder "head" portion is attached by an inappropriate combination of a few dots of glue and a friction fit join...minus the friction. Broke within a couple uses, overall crap quality.

The confusing thing is the connection between the head and the body is a reasonably nice and well-fitting twist-lock...Why skimp on the one connection that *has* to be permanent and not user openable?

Would not recommend
It does a terrible job of grinding pepper.

There is really nothing exceptional about this grinder, except it is fairly expensive. It works just like all pepper grinders I have used. The pepper corns are not ground uniformly. Some are large, others small. It is not easy to fill as you have to turn it upside down. Its top is rounded, so you can't set it on the counter. You have to hold it with one hand while you attempt to pour the pepper corns in with the other hand. You will spill some!
Up date 03-05-2016 I have two of these lousy grinders. I have used these grinders for about a year now. I don't care what setting you set it on, it spits out pepper corns slit in half. You can not use this grinder to add pepper to your food as the large pepper corns it puts out are not palatable. I threw both of mine in the trash this morning and went back to my 30 year old wooden grinder. Now I am back to grinding pepper like it is supposed to be ground.
Attractive, but poorly engineered product.

The lower grinder assembly immediately separated from the clear acrylic piece. There does not appear to be any mechanism (latch, etc.) to hold these two parts together, and any glue was completely ineffective. It separated the first time I tried to grind peppercorns, spilling the entire contents right into my sink. There is a reason Amazon has stopped delivering this item.

Update: I used Gorilla Glue on the inside of the acrylic piece to permanently attach it to the grinder and it works very well now. Simple defect is that they didn't use appropriate adhesive in the manufacturing process.

No different than other salts and the write=ups on the web give it no additional intrinsic value to humans.
Doesn't live up to the hype

Looking to up my salt game I purchased this product in anticipation of something great. Great it is not. The flavor is a bore, especially when compared to the flavor of a good product like Real Salt. Even worse, the rocks this salt contains can't be good for my teeth or salt grinder. I will be sending this product back.
Poor Taste

Tastes exactly like rock salt. Food grade only in the preparation and packaging. Duped by numerous high reviews.
Doesn't work with Trudeau Gravity Plus Salt and Pepper Mill Set
February 21, 2017
This was recommended by Amazon when I ordered my wife's Trudeau Gravity Plus Salt and Pepper Mill Set. The salt crystals are of a non-uniform size. The big pieces tilt the cutting burr while being ground there by allowing smaller unground pieces to fall out on to the food.
Keeps coming in damaged.

Ordered twice, twice came with punctured bags.
Product received was not labeled as The Spice Lab.

I did not receive the product that is pictured in the ad. The salt is a very pale pink and white and in a package labeled as Black Tai Salt Co. not The Spice Lab. I will be returning it.

Not top quality. Grain size is small.
sticks and dust
December 28, 2016
Last time I ordered this I gave it 5 stars but this time the package is loaded with dust and pieces of sticks. We are going to have to take the whole bag and weed through it. Don't get me wrong the pepper is great but I wasn't planning on processing 16 ounces of pepper to get twigs out of it. This photo is just what I took out of my pepper grinder. My feeling is this bag was from the bottom of the batch.
This is a do not buy warning

1 star because it is pepper but it is not Tellicherry. This pepper was very bland almost dusty tasting worst pepper I've ever had. I feel I was deceived with this product and here's why. Tellicherry peppercorns and regular black pepper both come from the the same vine the species Piper Nigrum. The fruit is picked from the vines and dried into what we know as black peppercorns then the peppercorns are taken to a grabling facilities where a machine sorts them by size. The various peppercorn sizes are called different things and sold for different prices. So a Tellicherry peppercorn determined by size. When a peppercorn is 4.5 mm or larger it is Tellicherry. Tellicherry makes up only 10% of a crop and command a higher price. In the 16oz bag of pepper I received there may have been 1 oz that would make the grade Tellicherry.Absolutely will not purchase anything from spice world again .I did add some photo

Taste too bland
I really hate these Peppercorns
July 14, 2016
I really hate these Peppercorns. They are NOT Tellicherry peppercorns. I have bought real telllicherry peppercorns, these are average at best. This is fraud to call these Tellicherry.. If you want real Tellicherry peppercorns You will find they are not cheap, but they are worth it. I was buying mine from Spices etc.. They raised the price so I was looking for them cheaper. else where... I will not do it again.
I was looking forward to receiving this pepper. I ...

I was looking forward to receiving this pepper. I even bought a battery operated pepper & salt grinder to grind it. The pepper was not only hard and dry, but had other stuff in it as well. BOTTOM LINE, I COULD NOT GRIND IT. Will never purchase this again.
