The absolute best of the series hands down
November 1, 2016
What can I say... an absolute classic in the genre of horror/suspense. superb action with the scanners. I saw this in the 80s when it first came out and was hooked. The absolute best of the series hands down. A must see.
A thing of beauty.

This is a fantastic version of Scanners the packaging is a thing of beauty. There just seems to be amazing artwork everywhere. One of my favourite releases I own. The transfer of the film is also outstanding.

This photo scanner works and is inexpensive to buy! Highly recommended!
November 3, 2017
I did have a photo scanning device which used the iPhone. It worked quite well but with the introduction of new iPhones, it was no longer of use to me and having old, various sized photos to scan, the iPhone device would not have worked, anyways. Since I did still have more than 10 photo albums with old photos (many B&W) left to scan, I looked for an inexpensive alternative for scanning photos. The Canon LiDE120 fit the bill. Not only is a relatively cheap to buy, it also did make the job of scaning paper photos so much easier. I think the description says “up to 4 photos” can be scanned at one time. I was able to scan 5 or 6 at a time but this depends on the size of the photos. If you do not leave a noticeable gap between the photos when placing them on the plate, the scanner will sometimes see one and lump 1-2 or 3 together. So you will have to repeat the scan. All in all, for the money and for the convinience, I do highy recommend this photo scanner. I scanned hundreds of old photos and if I never use this scanner again, it was worth the $55 I paid for it.
Great product, not plug n play on Mac though. Have to manually download drivers and install software.
September 9, 2017
I originally was going to use this with my Windows 10 PC but I saw some people saying the scanner didn't work well with Windows 10. So then I decided I'd use it with my iMac. I had read someone else's review that said it was simple plug and play on the Mac. It wasn't. I plugged it in and it didn't work. Checked the Mac system and it could see the Canon device on the USB port but it wasn't configure. I manually downloaded the drivers from Canon's site and installed everything. Then I turned my computer off and back on to make sure the device was booted up properly with the computer and drivers. It works wonderfully. I've scanned in up to five different pictures at once so far. As long as you have a gap between your pictures the scanner can tell they're separate pictures. I will be using the scanner a lot in the next month or so scanning photographs so I can have a permanent record in the cloud in case of flood or fire. I'll also be scanning in important documents using the PDF feature for similar reason.Normally I'd only give this a 4 star review because the software that I had to download from Canon isn't laid out as simplistically as it should be. But I bought it for quick mass picture scanning and it works like a champ at that so I'm giving it five stars. It serves my purposes perfectly.
Great scanner
May 8, 2017
Great scanner for the price. All I really need it for is scanning the occasion document/photo and it works perfectly for basic scanning. I love that it doesn't require its own power cord (one less thing to lose/hook up) and that it very easily scans multiple pages into the same document as opposed to the multiple single documents my last printer/scanner combo would make.

I haven't been able to get the quick buttons to do anything, but it immediately worked with my computer. It even integrated perfectly with the import file menu in Photoshop CS3, which I didn't expect.
This scanner is perfect for her
May 17, 2015
Actually bought for my wife as our other scanner all in one was difficult for her to scan then find the scanned item. This scanner is perfect for her, all she does is place the item on the flatbed scanner, closes the lid and touches one button, automatically identifies what is being scanned, files it in the correct folder than the item opens up for you to print, attach as file etc.. Plug and play through USB connection, no power cord is needed. Unpack scanner, install software with provided disk, starts automatically and tells you when to plug in your scanner via USB. The easiest scanner you will ever use. I run Windows 7 and it is compatible.
Good value, very usable.
December 29, 2014
I actually got this for my mom, who has boxes of old photographs that she wants to digitize and send to people. I worried that the machine would be too hard for her to use, but it seems that I was able to teach her pretty quickly. Installing was a breeze on Win 7 home premium, and the included software isn't fancy, but it does the job.If you want a basic document/photo scanner that's reasonably user-friendly, this is a good option.

“Such a piece of human junk.”
January 24, 2017
Sibling rivalry, conspiracies, industrial espionage, a goon squad of killers, some intrigue, and a duel over world dominance............or?Well, it’s never dull but it does suffer from the limited acting skills of the lead character (artist Stephen Lack as Cameron Vale) and his sidekick (Cover-Girl model Jennifer O’Neill as Kim Obrist). Most of the heavy lifting is done by Patrick McGoohan and Michael Ironside. There isn’t as much scanner destruction as one would want (the iconic “head” scene is wasted early on). More thriller than a sci-fi flick, it’s an interesting concept that begs for a remake but apparently Cronenberg won’t allow it.

March 21, 2014
Unexpected classic movie mastery, one of the better movies that are close to a B rating, i like the idea this movie enlist in ones mind. One part i never expected was during the beginning of the movie where 1 scanner is testing his ability to company personal from around the world at a top secret convention, where his power is used to try and explain what and how it works. This test goes horridly wrong when he picks the wrong person from the group of watchers that are seated to view this test. I won't say any more so that it won't spoil the movie, but lets just say he gets a bit to excited ha ha ha. Check this movie out, it has a great twist in the end that you'll not understand until the very very end lol. 4/5 based on actors alone, the acting is good, the plot is very good, only problem is that its kinda a knock off of a few other movies but thats ok, still a great film.

FRUSTRATING ON A PC, FINE ON MAC
August 2, 2017
UPDATE SAME DAY:The original review was written about using this on my PC; I downloaded the drivers to my Macbook and the scanner seems to work a lot better. I've changed the number of stars to four because I am much happier using it thru my Macbook.ORIGINAL REVIEW:Although I use this infrequently, the few times I need it, it has been an incredible PITA to use.Because I need all the USB ports on my computer and even the USB hub, I don't keep it connected.I connect it and almost EVERY time, I get the message that it is not turned on (there is no manual turn on switch). I unplug and replug the USB cord that came with it, and it still gives me the same message. It also needs to reload the software almost every time. After five tries with the above cord, I changed cords and finally, after four-five tries, it works.Would return if I could.Admit that I am currently so irritated with this that I didn't deal with Canon Support first, but the window closed on that, too. Less than a year tech support? Absurd.
Basic Scan
May 8, 2017
Canon has a good quality products and are conscientious about their clients. There is no company that has state of the art scanner. It is still very manual and for the value paid is just enough. If you get lazy to select an specific folder and are in a hurry it will save it to a designated folder, so later on you can retrieve at your own pace. Yes, you have to do manually every single page. Hey!! there was no more money to spent.
Overall worth it!
September 21, 2016
It took me a while to like this Canon scanner. I love the device itself - particularly that it does not require yet another transformer plugged into the wall. It is powered by the USB connector. Perfect! My complaint was with the software. It took me quite a while to find and learn how to use the app that comes with the device. My computer kept defaulting to the built-in scanner module rather than the Canon app. Once I figured out how to find and start the Canon app, it took me a bit longer to figure out how to scan a multi-page document rather than one page at a time. It just needs to be more user-friendly.Now that we've lived together for a few months, I'm pleased with the scanner.
What happened to the multi-page PDF button?
April 22, 2016
I owned a previous model (maybe the LiDE 110) and I really liked it so when I gave it to my Mom I replaced it with this model. However, I discover with the LiDE 120 that it is not possible to configure the buttons on the front to do multipage PDF scans. This is important to me--almost everything I do needs to be a multipage PDF scan. It is possible to use Canon software to do those scans, but the convenience of the buttons is totally wasted. Had I known that Canon had engineered this feature off this model, I would not have purchased it.To my this scanner is worth about 2 stars but since other people may not miss the multipage PDF button, I'll give it a score of four stars. Otherwise it's a fine scanner.
It is great for accurately scanning old photographs which are faded
September 10, 2014
Ease of use, speed, range of settings, and sleekness all I would rate 5 of 5 stars...It is great for accurately scanning old photographs which are faded, and torn. The colors are also very true and accurate in the transfer process...5 of 5 stars again! The only thing I have noticed, and this may be common of all scanners. is that it has a problem with black areas of photos...it consistently leaves white dots which I must go in and 'fill'. This is the only reason for not giving the 5th star...if this is problematic for all scanners, then I would change all ratings to 5 of 5.Very pleased overall, and a great price!
This is a very good low-cost scanner for documents and photos
August 21, 2014
This is a very good low-cost scanner for documents and photos. I really like the fact that it is powered right from the USB cable, with no need for a power cord and AC adapter. It makes really good photo scans, although they sometimes need a bit of color correction in post production. For the money, it is a very good deal.

Do not buy if you live in the US
June 25, 2017
I love this movie and was excited to watch it on blu-ray, but when I put it in I realized the disc wouldn't play on my blu-ray player (in the United States). It's my fault for not reading the details but I wish it was more clear before I bought the disc. Maybe putting that info in the title or something so you know right away. Otherwise the product was in perfect condition and I had no other problems, just wish I could watch it. Since my purchase I've also tried viewing this movie on other forums and it won't work because I live in the US. Why does the US hate Scanners!!?
Don't overthink think this one
July 8, 2015
You have to see it if you like the sci-fi horror genre, especially of this era in film making. The story is pretty good, the cast is equally pretty good and the special effects are fun at times (and you imagine scanning people that are rude, like peeps that let their dogs take a dump on the sidewalk and don't clean it up). I am not nearly as smitten by this as many folks are. It did launch the quintessential sci-fi horror villain actor's career of Michael Ironside. I'd give it 3.5 stars, but there are not 1/2 stars. Not 4, because it won't get watched even once a year. Still, it's worth seeing at least once, if not for the overall experience, but for cultural reference.

Scanner (Criterion Collection) = a *3* star Movie
Do NOT buy the Criterion version!
May 13, 2015
The movie itself I would give 3 1/2 or 4 stars. However, the picture quality on this Criterion version is average at best....and I can't believe I'm saying that about a Criterion release. I've been a huge fan since their laser disc days. Actually, I don't think it's really Criterion's fault; I suspect it's Cronenberg's. He personally supervised this new 2K scan and transfer. He turned the contrast way, way down and did something weird with the color timing. The picture now has a greenish tint. Swell, huh? As compared to a good HD transfer on blu-ray, the picture here looks muddy, washed out, and faded. It's almost as though Cronenberg (if he's the one responsible) was going for a VHS look. Check out blu-ray.com's screen caps and see for yourself.Additionally, I would like to encourage anyone that already owns this version of the film to check out the supplemental feature, The Ephemerol Diaries. During this feature, several segments from the film are shown. Here, the film looks SPECTACULAR. The detail, contrast, and color is gorgeous. For some reason, Cronenberg's tweaking is absent. You only wish you could actually watch the film with this version of the transfer. After having poked around a bit online, I found out these clips are from the German blu-ray, from the distributor, Subkulture.I have already ordered the UK Blu-ray, from distributor Second Sight. You can get it on amazon's UK site, and you don't have to get the fancier steelbook version, unless you want to. However, you'll need a region-free player.I can only recommend the Criterion version over the previously released DVDs. All other blu-ray versions, in terms of picture quality, are far more to my taste. My strongest recommendation is to pick up a region-free player and get one of the blu imports. (You may be able to get a hardware modification for your current player that will make it region-free. Since it is hardware and not software, you can still install all of the manufacturer's firmware updates. I have an Oppo blu-ray and the mod for it is very easy to install: just plug into two places on the rear of the player. That's it.)So disappointing this has been done to one of Cronenberg's most entertaining films...

Issues IMPORTING and PREVIEWING on 2 NEW models / RETURNED
August 30, 2017
This is a 3 star review for a couple reasons.1) Originally bought this scanner 3 or 4 years ago: Worked great and had no complaints.2) Recently tried to purchase this exact scanner after the last one broke, and both models sent from Amazon only worked for 2-3 scans before totally breaking down. A) Preview screen black B) Importing images black *Even after re-installing software, restarting computer, and looking for updated drivers.I don't think it is so much the actual product but Amazon services. . .Both items were not sealed, though it is typical, but CD not sealed, bags not taped, so I questioned the quality control aspects and wonder if they were just sending previously returned items that were re-packaged to me.I ended up buying a totally different scanner at BEST BUY who at least could provide GEEK SQUAD not the weird insurance they offer through Amazon.

A reasonable device mired by broken, heavy-weight software. If you're on a Mac, the buttons on the scanner are basically useless because the app just won't respond to them properly.
Good for the most simpliest task but doesn't do anything more. Also a bit confusing
November 16, 2015
The Canon scanner was somewhat of a dissapointment for me. This product was so highly rated and I needed a scanner so I thought I'd give it a shot. If all you want it to do is scan a document that goes to your computer, then by all means this product can be for you. If you want literally anything else with it, forget about it. First off, out of the box it was really confusing how everything worked. I wouldn't necessarily call myself a computer dummy either, but there was no specific instructions that came with it. I didn't even realize until later that it is powered up with the USB cable that it came. I'm sure many people would consider that a plus since it's so simple, but my complaint is in the fact that I was mostly confused with everything while using this product for the first couple of times. Only through trial and error was I able to figure out what all the functions on it were and even after figuring everything out, I realized they were all pretty much pointless for me. The software also didn't do me much favors. I am using a Macbook Pro and once again, it had no sort of instructions. I had to try every type of scanning until I could figure out how I could scan multiple documents onto one pdf file. Although these seem like very nitpicky complaints, it very much so hindered my experience. To top it all off, you have to put the document upside down to get it to scan right side up (sarcastic UGH). But all jokes aside, after figuring out how everything works, I would say this product does what it needs you to do which at the end of the day I am happy with. My biggest complaint on the product was my overall first impression/experience, and I wish it had more useful functions that were a lot clearer.Pros:Scans documentsClear qualityOnly uses 1 cable to power the device and transfer filesCompactCons:Bad user interfaceNo clear instructionsNo intuitive featuresCan lead to minor frustration
Buggy software
July 11, 2015
I had a previous LiDE product from Canon (I think 20 and 30 models) and were quite happy with them. I replaced them a while ago with a combo HP printer/scanner... The printer died so I decided to get ride of it and get another flatbed scanner and I went back to Canon because I know the scanner is usb-powered (which is really cool).Scanner is good, high resolution, fast... Software is BAD! Communication losses, interface poorly intuitive and a stupid interactive shortcut where Canon probably spend most of their software dev instead of doing something that works easy...For the price and if you need to separate your scanner and printer... this might be a good choice (it is most likely that other scanners will have bad software). Canon should offer a feeder add on for the scanner. As usual, Microsoft offered a poor software for the scanner under Windows 10... You may need to fiddle a lot to get the Canon software working under Windows 10 and recover the ability to scan multiple pages in a PDF...
Three Stars - Here's Why:
June 11, 2015
Pros:> Light weight.> Easy set up. No need to even plug it into power source, as your computer controls it. Just plug in the USB cord to the scanner and attach to USB port on your computer.> The scanned images are very nice quality too.Cons:> While the scanning quality is good (it scans in either .jpg or .pdf) the 'copy' quality is pretty poor.> There is no way to close the 'Quick Menu' once it is opened. You have to manually go into it and disable the Quick Menu from launching when you restart your computer if you don't want it to cover up the bottom right area of your screen. You can always open it up again, but you have to restart or shut down your computer to not have that huge Quick Menu on your screen.> Another thing I found disappointing is that when I scan an image, there is no option to save it to a location of my choice. The files automatically go into your Documents folder. You have no choice, which means you have to go into Documents find, rename and move images to whichever location on your computer you would prefer.I guess you get what you pay for. Anyhow, not too bad of a device for the price.

I bought this for my dad who is not good with tech and want to scan photos.Pros: Can scan multiple pictures and crop them-The scanner comes with a usb cord that connect to the computer and is used as the power source.-A menu on the bottom right of the computer.-Able to set a one click scan for picture scanning only.-lightweight and portable-took less than 30s to scan (my old one took 2 min)Cons: The control/operation was hard/not well explained-The easy buttons were not easy (require setup)-After a couple of use, I notice that the scanner was producing scan with color strips (fixed it by unplugging and replugging usb)-The scanner felt cheaply made

This movie appears to be a possible transfer from a vhs tape. The film is not clear and the color is terrible. Not much care was put in placing this movie on dvd. When there is a closeup of the cast speaking, their lips do not move with the words. I was very disappointed in the quality of this dvd. This movie is good and should have looked better on dvd. B-list Cronenberg
January 19, 2004
Along the trajectory of David Cronenberg's career, Scanners feels like a step backwards. While the premise is intriguing - drug companies and evil corporations wage bloody war with telepaths as cannon fodder - the execution is painfully dull and unintentionally funny. Part of the problem is the acting, which is wooden all around but reaches new depths whenever Stephen Lack opens his mouth. This guy is dreadful. He sure does Lack the ability to deliver lines. The high point of the film comes early with the infamous exploding head scene. Nothing that follows, not even the climactic psychic battle royale, comes close to the visceral potency of that scene. It's all downhill from there. For instance, how does a telephone booth explode? And if you were shot in the hand with a huge dart, wouldn't you just pull it out rather than run around a mall until it knocked you out? If there were a few more exploding heads I might not be splitting hairs. A disappointing outing from a talented filmmaker.
Disappointing and overrated
February 11, 2003
I honestly can't see what all the fuss is about. For years I've heard how Scanners was a classic piece of sci-fi, how it was David Cronenberg's first masterpiece. But when I sat down to see it I could only see small pieces of greatness drowning in a sea of a greatly overrated film.Sure Cronenberg is a talented director, and Scanners shows his promise, but this story about people with telekinetic powers seems like it comes from a rough draft of a script without the ideas, plot and characters fully worked out. Almost as bothersome is the monotone acting by the lead, a newly recruited scanner sent to kill another attempting to take over the world. Though many have said the acting is intentional, it just came across to me that he was a very poor actor (of course, the DVD's badly dubbed voices could account for some of that). But more so, every scene seems as though it's still a work in progress, that the screenwriter (Cronenberg) ran out of time before production. It doesn't feel remotely closed to polished.I admit that if I had seen this in 1980 when it came out, that it may have had a bigger impact on me. But I've seen plenty of sci-fi prior to this time that was leagues better then Scanners. I know I'll catch some flak for my unpopular view, but it's my honest, well thought out opinion. Of course I thought the "exploding head" scene was excellent in its shocking quality, the rest of the film just seemed to fall from there.Scanners was a major disappointment for me, and though I know many disagree with me, I can't share their enthusiasm. It's worth checking out if only too see the exploding head, but, for me, is otherwise a forgettable film.

January 22, 2016
Installation was simple enough the CD-ROM auto plays and does everything for you. Unfortunately after that the functionality goes downhill. The "auto scan, .pdf, document, photo" buttons on the scanner do not function. After extensive troubleshooting through the manual and tech support the buttons still didn't work. Additionally when scanning long documents through I consistently had errors saying the scanner wasn't installed or the drivers weren't installed. Disconnecting the usb cable and reconnecting solved the error in most circumstances but there is no way to continue scanning in the same file forcing me to manually merge the files. Sometimes this process required merging 5 files for a 26 page document. If you are looking for an affordable flatbed scanner that will do the job although maddeningly inconvenient this is the one for you. However I would suggest spending the extra $30 for a higher quality scanner to avoid the headache.
Hardware wise this scanner works fine. Software wise
January 20, 2016
Hardware wise this scanner works fine. Software wise, it adds the complete year, month and day to each image scanned into the file name. Working with Canon support was painful. They first told me how to fix it, then said I must be using some other scanner software, then finally determined the software was not flexible enough remove the date. Each file MUST be edited to remove the long date string from the file name. Also, the appended sequence is 4 digits and cannot be shortened. Changing the file save path requires changing the setup config for each button pressed. Pressing the computer icon functions act completely separate from the scanner buttons. Each has its own setup. Bottom line was buy additional software to make this work as desired. ScanSpeeder for $30 did the trick. .
Idiotic Driver/Software. WHY?
October 22, 2015
I've had many scanners. The last one I had was a LIDE 210. One day it didn't scan. I bought a LIDE 120. They look the same. The driver/software must have been written by the people in the boardroom. It sucks to put it bluntly. Scanning into Photoshop with the 210 I put the image to be scanned into the scanner, clicked on 'import' and got my scanned image. With the 120 you look through instructions, make an assortment of decisions such as to where you want to scan the image, what size, what resolution, color/B&W, check the manual again, rescan several times, copy and move to edit, etc, etc. There must be a way to save all the information to a default but I can't find it. The 210 was comfortable and second nature. The 120 is a nightmare if you have any need whatsoever to do the scan quickly. Incidentally, I use a Mac. This thing is about as foreign to the comfortable feeling you get using a Mac as somebody yelling over your shoulder while you're trying to work. You can make a scan, but you wish you had the LIDE 210 back and working.

May 20, 2015
It is not compatible with Java, Unable to use to upload checks so I could not do any online banking. Cannon iis aware of the problem and their statement to me was," we do not guarantee it will work with other equipment not manufactured by Canon. I was very disappointed as I have had 3 Canon 3/1 printers prior to this. I will never buy anything made by Canon again. My Canon 3/1 printer scanner stopped functioning after several years, I had hoped to just add a scanner and continue on. I now have a Epson 3/1 printer that works fine.
Good scanner, mediocre software.
December 16, 2014
Overall, the scanner produces good quality images. I wasn't expecting a professional quality scanner at this price, although I was pleasantly surprised by the image quality this scanner produces. The software included with this scanner is the typical OEM included software; not many frills, but it gets the job done. The software has a few quirks (like defaulting settings when changing modes), so I'm removing a star for that. This scanner does just fine for my occasional usage of photos/documents.Edited: I'm taking off an additional 2 stars. It's been a year since I purchased this printer. It randomly has errors when trying to scan. After searching around the Canon forums, this printer has an issue with 1) USB on ASUS motherboards (drivers/chipset) and/or 2) Windows 10. I have a PC running Windows 10 on an ASUS motherboard, so I guess I hit the jackpot. The scanner produces images that are great (as per my original review), but because the printer has so many compatibility issues, people looking to purchase this should stay away.

I'm not sure if it was the wooden acting or the pedantic dialogue -- contrived purely, strophe/antestrophe style, for plot exposition -- that killed this film for me. I felt I was being dragged through a film that would have been better-rendered as a novel. But even in a novel, the character relationships wouldn't have worked. Suffice it to say that in my view, if characters and concepts aren't introduced in action, they don't exist. Hemingway used to say that if you used an adjective, you didn't use the right noun. Well, if you have to have explicit exposition using tedious dialogue between two flat characters in a tableau, you haven't selected the right actions to film. The film started with a fine sequence, in which the most critical knowledge about the characters was conveyed wordlessly. Unfortunately, the characters then opened their mouths, and ceased to be real people; they became simply bloodless instruments to explain the plot, revealing Mr. Cronenberg's utter contempt for his audience. It seems as if he forgot that just because people can't scan, it doesn't mean they can't make inferences. The film culminates in a Scooby-Doo style BIG REVEAL scene, containing perhaps half the script, but none of the justification for the revealed secrets. It's hard to suspend disbelief for long enough to reach that point -- I mean, couldn't they have just scanned each other's minds for all this expository information??? -- and impossible to do anything once the BIG REVEAL scene begins except distractedly read the DVD's packaging material, looking for the run time to see how long the antagonist's explanation will last. The film's tiresome devices made me long for the comparatively engrossing characters and carefree plot of, say, a film based on an Ayn Rand novel.
Astonishing that anyone could like it
July 13, 2013
I'd rank this with the worst movies I've ever seen. I found it boring, muddled, badly acted, and not even particularly horrific. About halfway through, the budget for exploding heads seems to have run out, and the movie takes a nosedive to even lower depths of awfulness. At about that same point, I and my family members began making wisecracks and not really caring what happened any more. It's that kind of movie.Scanners 2 is a better movie and kept me modestly amused. Not this one.
I Hate It

Because "I" wasn't careful & busy I didn't look at the regions & these only play overseas. They REALLY should have something that alerts you to the region though. Maybe, b4 the transactions complete, open a screen w/ that information for people. I can't dog on the service. I suppose by it coming all that way, it wasn't late. I hate it b/c I really wanted to watch those movies. I guess the store is okay :/
Technical goof up
July 9, 2002
I'm not going to comment on the story line. Others have done that well. This review concerns the DVD release.Despite that the film has mono sound, it still appears fine...until chapter 12. About 2/3 of the way into the film, you can tell they did voice overs for the rest of the movie, and poorly. The voices are so out of sync with the lip movements, that I was unable to enjoy the rest of the film.I have the video tape as well (purchased when it first came out many years ago) and although being pan and scan, it is clearly superior. Not only are the voices original and therefore in sync, but the background sounds are noticeable too. For example when the characters are talking and a door is closed, you can't hear the door shut on the DVD because the voice overs muffle all other noises. On the video tape, it is as clear as day.I recommend watching the video tape until they come out with a better DVD.

Such a waste of time
July 24, 2017
Unlike the 110, this 120 does not come with any software you can do the scans directly. I could not even get this working. Lesson: Try your purchase once you have it not 2 months later where you can't return. I had given 5 stars to Canoscan 110, this one should have ZERO starts but no choice but i star. Such a waste of time. This was the last cannon I bought. Never again!
Poor Quality

This scanner does not work well. Although convenient, you have to scan the item over multiple times to get a clear picture. Otherwise a rainbow of colors is seen. Would not buy again. I should of returned it.
Shame on you Canon!

Same issues here. Purchased over a year ago for a family picture scanning project. Never even opened the box it was delivered in from Amazon until today. After multiple attempts to install using several different USB cables, multiple USB ports, and on two separate computers, in addition to updating the drivers on the Canon website - nothing. Cannot get past the error message "USB cable isn't connected." We own many Canon products and have always been very happy. After researching this I find many, many people out there with the same problem. Shame on you Canon.
Broke after one use
January 26, 2017
I'm really disappointed in this product because I really liked it the first time I used it and had high hopes for it. It was low-profile and easy to use. After using it once in November 2016 and stowing it away in a safe drawer, I took it out again in January 2017 to find that it no longer worked. I tried locking and unlocking the unit, I tried three different USB cables and had no luck. Its a real shame because I came to expect a lot more from Canon. I got this product to compliment my Canon iP8720 printer that does not have a scanner unit and now I am a few weeks into the semester and stuck without a scanner.
Doesn't work on windows 10
January 2, 2016
this scanners does not work for windows10. The IJ utility freezes/crashes halfway into a scan. I can't even get 1 page to scan most times. I've reinstalled numerous times. A quick google search has found many people have had the same issue. Basically unusable. Canon support is terrible. I will never buy canon again!
Oppertunity lost with old family photos.
April 16, 2015
I had a massive scan project for my 1950's family photos. I bought this portable scanner and flew cross country to visit an estranged relative to scan the old family photos. Needless to say this was a one time shot to scan these photos before they are lost to the whole family forever. I scanned all the photos and left with a few originals that there were copies of. Later on my Aunt scanned the same photo I scanned but she used 200dpi with her old scanner and still it came out so much better than this scanner did. I took a photo with my iPhone 4 and got a better copy. I am extremely disappointed that I wasted my one shot to get these photos scanned and ended up with very poor quality scans. I have attached photos to show the difference in quality. I know some might say a bad copy is better than no copy but seriously there were tiny photos and I would want to enlarge them but they will be very degraded in quality because the original scan was low quality. I turned all the settings on this scanner to highest quality as well. The photos attached are from a roughly 5x7 size print and it had the least damage of all the photos so it's easiest to show the quality difference.
