Five Star Reviews: | 72% Love this for mashed potatoes March 24, 2017 Love this for mashed potatoes. I got one for my mom and sister as well. Makes the fluffiest mashed potatoes super easily. This Would Make An Impressive Gift! January 19, 2017 There are so many good points to this Ricer!! First, this would make the perfect gift for the Cook in your life! It comes in a beautiful, impressive box. The product itself looks sooo impressive! It's easy on your hands. It has a pot hugging side so you can go right over your pot when you use it. I use it for Mashed Potatoes and it's beyond perfect! The price can't be beat! I've spent twice as much for Ricers that weren't half the quality of this one! Play Doh fun! December 6, 2016 Functional, heavy duty Play Doh tool! This tool is priced right for giving to the kids. Takes a bit of arm muscle, so I'd recommend it for ages 4+. Or better yet, join them and have some fun yourself. There are two "screens", to choose from, and the larger holed screen works best, with pieces extruded that are the size of spaghetti. You won't have to be concerned about the kids breaking this metal tool. Easy Way to Great Mashed Potatoes, Every Time. The Last Piece of the Puzzle. July 11, 2016 Boil UNPEELED chucks of clean potatoes. Don't overcook the potatoes. DRAIN WELL. Butter and spice to taster. And now...the foolproofing...USE a RICER!Heat milk, then gradually add. Stir with wooden spoon or whisk. Viola! Consistently great mashed potatoes! The ONLY reason I would consider deducting a star is that some potato would squeeze out the side of the plunger/piston. Next time, I'll weigh it. I'm now guessing it was less than 2% of the total. One can always just tap it back into the hopper, so it's not a big deal, it's just not perfect. I edit the review and publish the actual number. In any event, I stand by the 5 stars and RECOMMEND the product. Eureka! October 23, 2014 I chose this ricer because I hated the color of the RSVP green one and this was half the price (at the time). They are exactly the same but for the color and I just love it! It WORKS, it's easy to clean, dishwasher safe, lightweight.... I have a surprising number of ricers in my kitchen and all the others are now available to gift to someone I don't like ;-)By the way, works well for squeezing the water from spinach (for spinach pies) and soaked bulghur (for tabouli). Great for one or two March 11, 2014 I live alone and mashed potatoes take too long. Peeling boiling and then cleaning the mixer made me give up mashed potatoes. With this I just bake a potato or two in the microwave, cut in half and send each piece through the ricer. I pull the skin out with a fork after each piece - yup, no peeling! | 61% It came in a beautiful and elegant cardboard box and when I opened it April 13, 2017 WOW...JUST WOW!!!....that's really all I can say.I recived my ricer and garlic press today and boy was I impressed. It came in a beautiful and elegant cardboard box and when I opened it, I couldn't believe the quality of the 2 items and they were beautifully tagged with instructions and a recipe. I even used it tonight to make Cauliflower rice and it works excellent.I'm very satisfied and totally happy with my new kitchen toy.Thank you for the excellent customer service and the quality products you sell. You have a customer for life NOW Good, reliable, potato ricer! November 23, 2015 After lots of looking I bought this one. I like it, it gets the job done, its comfortable to use, and it gives lots of options on the size of the holes to mash through. The more holes, the smoother your mashed potatoes. I also find it easy to wash. The only problem, as with all mashers, is that they are not small. Save your fingers from the graters October 30, 2015 These 2 items are a great size and easy to handle. Easy to clean. Takes some getting used to but a great item to have for the holidays. The garlic press was a great idea, makes for fast work of getting the garlic minced. This is going to save my fingers from the open graters. I am going to try other foods and fruit with these gadgets. Great price for both items. Great design.* I did receive these items at a promotional price for my 100% honest opinion. This does not guarantee a positive review. I love this ricer! December 29, 2014 This has opened my eyes to the best mashed potatoes ever! Rather than boiling and mashing the potatoes, I steam them in my pressure cooker (skin on, but cut into 2-3 pieces). Then I press them through the ricer which peels and "mashes" all in one step. Fold in the butter, cream,- what ever you are using to season your potatoes for the best mashed potatoes you will ever make! This ricer is easy to clean and easy to squeeze. It comes with a garlic press which was great as well! Happy with my purchase! December 3, 2014 I cook with a lot of garlic and its a pain to constantly dice it. Broke this out last night and it was awesome...quickly diced the garlic for me. Kind of difficult to clean, but compared a normal garlic press it is a breeze. The ricer, I haven't used yet, but it appears to be of similar quality as the garlic press. These are heavy duty and larger than I expected. Happy with my purchase Very happy with this set. November 19, 2014 I got this set on a daily deal and boy am I glad I did. Very well packaged, would make a great gift. Love that both the potato ricer and garlic press have interchangeable blades. I find this set to be very easy to use and clean up is a snap.I like this kind of potato ricer better than the hand crank kind because clean up is much easier. The collar on the potato ricer is a little hard to get out, but I think after some use it will be easier. Please take that into consideration if you have arthritic hands. This will be my third garlic press in 2 years, one was an Oxo brand and the other some cheap metal thing I picked up at Goodwill. They both ended up breaking after about a year, so hopefully this one will last much longer. The collar on the garlic press is much easier to remove. The only thing that I wish is that the whole thing was black and not white, but that is just my preference. | 64% Best i have used July 12, 2017 I use this often when I make jams and jellies. I love it. This is the best candy thermometer I have ever used! I am excited for candy making this Christmas! Does its job! June 21, 2017 I use it for making fried chicken and for making various candies that require hot temperatures. It does a fantastic job and cleans up nicely after every use! love it April 29, 2017 This seems like an excellent value to me, well made, not at all fragile. Easy to read and clean. Works perfectly July 22, 2016 I wanted to try this thermometer out so I made donuts with it and it worked perfectly! I finally don't have to put my whole hand into a pot of hot oil. You can leave this on the pot and the end of it in the oil while frying. I also can just hand wash it. Definitely will be using this a lot more! This is a great candy thermometer! May 18, 2016 I got this thermometer to replace one that I got in culinary school. Someone immersed my old one to wash it, so there was a little floating red section, about 10 degrees. It just made it a bit more irritating to see the actual temperature. This Winco Candy Thermometer is fantastic! I used it to make homemade marshmallows this afternoon, and they turned out great! Obviously an accurate thermometer. I can't wait to use it again. I love that is has a clip on the back. I bent my clip out just a bit so that I can prop it against the side of my saucepan, so I can get a more accurate reading from the middle of whatever I'm cooking. It works great, definitely recommend it. Very pleased... April 18, 2016 I bought this for my wife who likes to make yogurt. Our last one mysteriously disappeared, so it was very much needed. She just made a batch, and it turned out to be the best one she's made. Her old thermometer must have been off, because yogurt needs to be at very specific temperatures for it to turn out. It's very well made, and as far as we can tell, very accurate. I'm happy to have bought this thermometer. | 66% There are no reviews yet | 76% There are no reviews yet |
Four Star Reviews: | 16% This is a good product and more durable than I thought it would ... January 23, 2017 This is a good product and more durable than I thought it would be. I do not peel potatoes now and it does take some muscle work to completely rice a potato with the skins intact. It comes with two different size screems however I only use the larger one. The only knock I have is the black plastic part that holds the screens in, sometimes pops out when un-plunging. I would recommend this product though, as it makes crazy, fluffy mashed potatoes. Works well. December 3, 2016 Works like a charm for the most part, except that the tolerance between the piston and sidewalls could be closer to prevent potatoes, stewed apples and other soft-cooked materials from squeezing out. Size of holes in each ricing disc is appropriate for most uses. Those with smaller hands may have a difficult time gripping and squeezing the handles without using two hands, which in turn makes the device less stable when it's resting on the rim of the container receiving the processed food. I like it well enough though when I am in a ... January 30, 2015 I like it well enough though when I am in a hurry, I use a ricer potato masher. This ricer does work when you need finer riced potatoes for special recipes. I got a laugh at the plates when I took it apart the ricer for its cleaning right out of the box and found that the plastic bag on the ricer plates was not immediately noticeable. The plates are in a plastic bag and placed in the ready to rice position so be sure to take it out for its scrubing or guess what I am pretty sure it won't work LOL. Easy to use, Easy to clean. January 9, 2015 It can feel a bit unsteady if you load up the inside with a bunch of potatoes but in the end it does the job. I have used it several times so far and I am really happy with the result. If whatever you are ricing is watery there can be some mess that occurs, I find it best to rice over the sink or into a bowl that is large enough for the ricer to be held under the rim line. I have also found that if you go slow when pressing there is less water to leak out the top. I pop out the inner basket and the grates for washing, those I through into the dishwasher and rinse off the rest, it is better to do this before food dries on it. Works well, but I have one major concern October 31, 2014 This ricer makes excellent mashed potatoes, and is pretty ergonomic, but when left in dirty dish water while awaiting cleaning, water can seep into the handle, and there is no good way to open up the handle to clean it. That concerns me. If it is just water, that's no big deal, but if something contaminated with chicken juices gets in, and later drips out, or just starts to rot and stink, that would be really bad. Be careful to hand wash this thing, and don't leave it soaking before cleaning it. | 15% Not a fan of the plastic but otherwise it's great. March 2, 2016 Great product but too big and bulky and when I press down with the garlic press the plastic feels as if it's going to bend or break. I have to be careful which is not something I am use to with my stainless press. Its a great product but it's not for me, I will continue to use my stainless press instead. Workout for your arms! January 22, 2015 First, the garlic press - nice that there are different discs you can put in for how you want your garlic - small, mashed, etc. - but I found this item pretty much the same as other presses. It was a bonus as what I was interested in was the ricer. It also has different discs to use depending on how you want your end product. Personally, I'm terrible at making mashed potatoes. I can smash 'em OK, but I just can't seem to mash them - always lumpy. Which is why I always make them smashed. My daughter is learning how to cook and I didn't want her in the same boat should she want good mashed potatoes. I ordered this and gave it to her when we were making a special dinner, explaining that she would have to be the one to figure out this mashed variety. The inside of this contraption is non-stick and easy to clean - super bonus - it will be used again without fear of KP duty. I had small potatoes, but I still cut them in small pieces. We cooled them a bit, a little warmer than room temp. Now for the magic moment.. hmmm.. OK, this isn't electric, so I highly recommend that you put your bowl in the sink where it can't slip and fall and toss your hard work all over the floor, as it does take some muscle to get push those little chunks thru those tiny little holes. We were glad there was only the two of us for this meal - otherwise we would have had to take turns. Or find a nice strong fellow to work a bit for his dinner. I will have to say that we did have some nice potatoes, this thing works as promised, but it will take a fancy meal before we pull this gadget out again. Ending comments - yes, it works, it's easy to clean, bonus garlic press - all good. Cons- it takes some oomph to take those easily smashed potatoes into tiny little rice bits! ... got this on black friday so it was a great price, I'm not sure if I would've paid ... December 8, 2014 I got this on black friday so it was a great price, I'm not sure if I would've paid retail for it but it's a good set. A bit tedious to clean and lots of parts but I love the texture of riced mashed potatoes (much fluffier) and sometimes its easier to hand a relative/friend a garlic press than to cringe as they take forever to mince a head of garlic. It seems sturdy like it will hold up well but if you are a city dweller like me and have limitied kitchen space, it might not be worth it as a unitasker. Does exactly what it says it will though, so that's why I give it 4 stars. | 13% Nice product, the sliding clip is perfect for adjusting ... September 19, 2017 Nice product, the sliding clip is perfect for adjusting depending on the height of the vessel you're using. Easy to read temp and feels very well build and sturdy. Stay's clipped on the large stock pot no problems at all - I used a 6 quart, rather tall pot and thermometer had no problems submerging in the oil towards the bottom of the pot. The sliding clip also makes it easy to use on my more shallow, wider 5 quart dutch oven. Nothing fancy here, just straight forward and built to work. Four Stars July 31, 2017 I suspect I will be making alot of good fudge this Christmas. Adjusts well to any size pan. Sturdy and well made April 22, 2017 This thermometer is well made and that alone should garner it 5 stars, but for the occasional candy making I do, I found it way too big for the pan. It does have a slide on it to adjust the height while in the pan, but again, it was just too big for me. Clean up is very easy, it is an easy to read thermometer and is sturdy. If you are making more than 1 batch of candy and using something larger than a 2 quart sauce pot, you should find this a keeper. Good performance for its price January 4, 2017 Ordered this thermometer to make some marshmallows from scratch. It is a sturdy design. The base is metal the top is a hard plastic. The deviations are easy to read and the thermometer itself is clear as long as you can get down to eye level. My only complaint is the holder piece on the back doesn't fit too snug with the sides of smaller round pots. I had to sort of prop it up and hope it wouldn't fall over. Overall the product does its job and my marshmallows came out good so it gets a 4 star rating from me. Easy to read and I like that you can just ... December 2, 2016 This thermometer is a LOT bigger than I was anticipating, but it does the job. Easy to read and I like that you can just leave it in the pot (I still didn't succeed with my attempt at Divinity though! :( ) So far I like this thermometer November 8, 2016 So far I like this thermometer. The font hasn't rubbed off, yet and hopefully it doesn't lol. It is a bit bulky but I'm happy with it so far. | 16% There are no reviews yet | 6% There are no reviews yet |
Three Star Reviews: | 7% Good quality, needs better locking mechanism March 12, 2017 Bought this to make a Vietnamese dessert. The quality of the plastic isn't cheap and fragile. Comes with two exchangeable grates.Only problem I had was sometimes the holder for the grate doesn't hold very well. It tends to slip and the grate comes out. So maybe if they could improve the way the grates are held down it would be 5 stars. Not the best! February 21, 2017 Price is relevant.... Using the ricer, it lets product to squish around the plunger! Not what I figured how it would perform. Three Stars January 22, 2016 Works fine, takes some muscle so don't expect grandma to like it for making a big batch. Not great for making baby food August 8, 2015 Three stars since I bought this for the primary purpose of mashing baby food based on a couple reviews. It is sturdy and relatively easy to clean. For those that are buying for the primary purpose of ricing potatoes, you will likely be very satisfied. If you're shopping for a manual baby food mill, go with one of the little plastic hand-crank mills. They process tougher textures so much better. Works too well... January 1, 2015 This tools works too well for mashed potatoes. The end product is a very constantly fine extruded material, even with the "coarse" screen,My point is that it makes too fine mashed potatoes.I don't have a problem with the cleaning or anything else about the tool. Nice product but it's impossible for me to take out ... November 23, 2014 Nice product but it's impossible for me to take out the basket for cleaning. I have to find someone with *really* strong hands to pinch the tabs together. 5 stars if it wasn't so hard to clean. | 10% Arrived with broken piece March 30, 2017 Used the garlic press for the first time today to find that the piece labeled "hopper" was broken. Theres a clip that I found in the box but didn't know what it was for until today.Leaving a three star review because it's not the main piece of the order, and the press still kinda works, it's just very difficult to remove the attachment with only one clip still attached. Difficult to change plates and clean.... ... August 14, 2015 Difficult to change plates and clean....but does well once you get it together...would select something different if purchase these items again It's annoying but the ricer works well enough otherwise December 4, 2014 Works decently enough but the black insert that holds the removable screens in place always seems to come up a bit while squeezing potatoes through and then potatoes squish up along side the white press. It's annoying but the ricer works well enough otherwise. I think I'll upgrade to the steel ricer.Have not used the garlic press because I have a stainless steel version but it's nice to have on hand as a backup. Fittings too tight, mincer holes too big November 8, 2014 To start, I needed a new garlic press (mincer). The previous best press I used was from Zyliss (bought some years ago @ BB&B). Looked similar to the Zyliss Jumbo Garlic Press, so that is what I will be comparing this with. I bought this because I like the idea of not just mincing garlic & ginger etc, but dicing, and slicing as well. I then saw this combo came with a potato ricer which I also would like to have. I was a little weary of it being mostly plastic, as I've had some other brands break in the past.Pros:1. The interchangeable parts allow you to mince, dice, slice garlic, ginger etc.2. It is economical. If you easily want to do the above with other manufacturers, you'll need to spend $45-60 and that is not including a potato ricer.3. The cavity for garlic, ginger is a good size and larger than my old Zyliss.4. The plastic top handle did flex a little on usage, but not near enough to break it. So far it appears to be long lasting.Cons:1. The garlic press comes pre-installed with the slicer attached. It was easy to take out and put the mincer in. Make sure not to push on the slicer, dicer blades as they are sharpened on both sides (you can use the little comb like tool this kit comes with or a spoon). The con was taking the white plastic piece of the masher portion out for cleaning right after usage. I rinsed the garlic off, removed the mincer metal piece, but the plastic white masher piece that connects to the swiveling black piece would not come out. It went in without much force while dry, so I just just pushed harder... It finally came out with a lot of pushing force and I found a couple minutes later that I had cut two of my fingers on the plastic. I suppose I could use an emery board, file, dremel to file the white plastic down so that this does not happen again, but I may be returning this because of the next con.2. I noticed right away, but tried it anyway. After mincing the garlic, the minced pieces were quite large. The holes are the same diameter as the dicer fittings at 1/8 of an inch. The Zlyiss I used to have was much much smaller in diameter (maybe 1/16, which would be about 1/4 the of the hole surface area). Looking at other pictures of other presses on amazon, they are all much smaller diameter... This makes it too large for my personal taste in cooking and again, why is the hole diameter the same size as the dicer fitting?Final thoughts: I mostly peeled the dry skin off the garlic first. If you only want a garlic mincer and not a dicer or slicer choose a different product. As I first tried this yesterday, I have not tried the potato ricer. I will return the product, but will not buy the Zyliss either as the coating came off mine like others state after a year. | 7% Worked for a bit April 9, 2017 It worked for a couple of uses but not I can't tell what temperature anything is. Not sure if I broke something, or if the color of the rising fluid is too hard for me to see. Either way, ymmv Works well, wish it was smaller. March 22, 2017 I purchased this to hang off my le creuset dutch oven for frying. I didn't realize how big it was and it barely fit on the side. It's not really the products fault, but I actually would have preferred it be smaller. Too big February 7, 2017 This was a gift for my mom. She is keeping it but she said it is too big and she would have rather gotten a much smaller thermometer. Temperature numbers will scrub off if you're not really careful during cleaning January 3, 2017 It works great, but if you're not really, really careful when cleaning, the temperature numbers will rub off, making the unit unusable. I make a lot of cashew brittle, so the thermometer gets covered with sticky, gooey candy, making it tough to clean without an abrasive sponge. After the numbers wore off on the first item, I got another one, and made a permanent scratch in the metal to indicate my hard-crack temperature, just in case someone scrubs off the actual temperature scale. Easy to read, easy to clean. Temp was off by 5-8F May 8, 2016 Thermometer seems to be a little off in temp. Received and used immediately for making homemade marshmallows. Candy making is very specific and the syrup needs to get to 240F (soft-ball stage) for making marshmallows. Using this thermometer, temp was off 5-8F, based on checking with another digital thermometer (but one that cannot clip onto the pan, so is not conducive to candy-making). When marshmallows were done, the texture was getting closer to taffy, and less fluffy than other batches of marshmallows I have made using a different candy thermometer. On the positive side, this seems very durable, and is easy to read. The fluid inside the thermometer is intact, and did not have any fluid that had separated from the rest, in addition, there were no cracks that were apparent so this handled shipping well. My box contained another box of 6 jars of jam, which were heavy and sliding around the box a bit, so this thermometer seemed to handle the added shipping stress well. Be careful with the markings. June 30, 2015 I bought this specifically to make candy. But after two uses the numbers have worn off, so now I have no idea what stage my caramel is. | 6% There are no reviews yet | 12% There are no reviews yet |
Two Star Reviews: | 2% I do not recommend this ricer January 10, 2016 This product was flimsy and hard to use I put it in the trash after the first use. I do not recommend this ricer. I am more interested in ricing vegetables like cauliflower and squash than potatoes February 14, 2015 Very difficult removing the plastic part that holds the screen in place. I'm a strong guy and almost returned it because of this. I struggle with it but am keeping the product. Food must be very soft for it to rice. I've used only the large screen. I am more interested in ricing vegetables like cauliflower and squash than potatoes. This is a marginal product. It took a lot of muscle to rice potatoes with ... January 13, 2015 It took a lot of muscle to rice potatoes with this. I was hoping it would be easier to use. Cheap October 3, 2014 Doesn't rice potatoes well. Feels like the handle is going to break in half when using it. | 5% The potato ricer works great, garlic press broke at second use... November 29, 2016 The potato ricer works great, a little big for my utensils drawer though. The garlic press however, is a little hard to disassemble when it needs to be washed, the first time I used it I cut my fingers and the second time the black square piece that holds the blades just broke. I emailed the manufacturer for information on how to get a replacement part but haven't heard back from them.UPATE: downgrading to two starts because the manufacturer never contacted me, I really hope the SELLER reads my review and helps me out Too many parts. July 8, 2016 What a pain, takes too much time to change blades, too much time to clean you are better off chopping the garlic by hand, the potato ricer is just ok. I purchased it for when I cook for a large party, did not save me any time chopping. Garlic Press is far from being a "deluxe" item January 29, 2016 The Culina potato ricer works fine and met my expectations, but the Garlic Press Deluxe is far from deluxe. The blades do not fit into the slots and, therefore, do not cut the garlic, much less press it. Since I bought them together, I'll keep the ricer, but, if I could, I would return the garlic press. Probably better products out August 16, 2015 fairly cheap. Used some ginger in it and was not able to clean out, had to through that piece away. Probably better products out there | 6% The clip doesn't hold at all. It would be ... December 27, 2016 The clip doesn't hold at all. It would be so simple to make an effective clip, but the metal is so pliable that it can't maintain tension, so the thermometer slides all the way down to the bottom of the pot. Temperature way off November 19, 2016 I placed this thermometer in a pot of boiling fudge with 2 other thermometers and it was off at least 10F (I think it was closer to 15F off). It was reading about 190 F in boiling fudge where the others were at 200 to 205F. Note I live at a high altitude so the boiling point is below 212F.It read a bit closer in boiling water but it still read low it performed just fine, but last time (making jam) the temp never ... August 9, 2016 I have only used this twice. Once (frying), it performed just fine, but last time (making jam) the temp never seemed to rise to the setting point. Finally, I pulled the jam - yep, way too hard. If a few degrees don't matter (frying, for example) then it is sturdy with a nice pan clip and easy-to-read (even for an old person like me) register. However, if this is for things where real accuracy counts, this is not your thermometer. Two Stars July 18, 2016 After second use the liquid in the thermometer separated leaving gaps. Makes it hard to accurately gauge the temp. Sturdy except for ink - not much good if the numbers come off! June 15, 2015 I ordered this to use when heating milk to make yogurt, and heating wort to brew beer. It's very sturdy and I like the way it attaches to the sides of pots. BUT after only 6 months use the numbers are coming off. I only hand wash it, it's never been in a dishwasher and I don't use anything abrasive on it. So I'm pretty disappointed in the quality. | 5% There are no reviews yet | 2% There are no reviews yet |
One Star Reviews: | 3% Bad choice October 28, 2016 When you press down the food squishes up the sides of the bowl. Some food does come out the bottom. It's also very hard to manage. I don't like using it at all. Returned immediately for refund December 1, 2015 I purchased this for $9.95 from a Lightning Deal in hopes of creating silky smooth mashed potatoes. This product does not make mashing potatoes easier, the potatoes got stuck and and pressing down on the lever was difficult. You're better off using a mashed potato masher. but I feel like I need to now because the product description is ... November 17, 2014 This item is Made in China not Italy- the description states that it is BPA Free - but no where on the box, or in the instructions does it say BPA FREE. It is not stamped anywhere on the device itself BPA Free anywhere either. The donuts tasted fine, so I'm inclined to suspect this thermometer is both inaccurate and not made with care. doesn't work. Only goes up to a certain temperature ... December 22, 2016 doesn't work. Only goes up to a certain temperature, way lower than the actual temp in a side by side test next to a highly sensitive digital thermometer. The difference was more than 40 degrees. Requested a refund & in search of a better option. December 5, 2016 The temperature reading was not accurate, it was reading too low, causing me to burn or ruin the candy & toffee I was trying to make.
