Five Star Reviews: | 69% A Fine Ricer July 12, 2017 I bought this for my boyfriend because he wanted it to make mashed potatoes. He is strong like ox, and it stands up to his meaty grip. When asked for comment, he said, "I can only imagine what else I could rice with this." None makes better mashed taters than this bad boy April 18, 2017 This is the one ricer that ruled them all. None makes better mashed taters than this bad boy! And it doesn't stop there either. you can rice many different veggies with this tool. Don't think just buy it, I love mine and its so easy to clean.,. Fluffy potaotes March 23, 2017 Ricing potatoes is just so much better than mashing (lump potential) or using a wand or hand mixer (gummy potatoes). This makes fluffy, lump free mashed potatoes to use as is or in a recipes (such as Shepherd's Pie). Sturdy, easy to use. So easy to use and doesn't take a lot of hand ... July 13, 2016 This brought my mash potato game up big time. I have never heard of a ricer until my mother in law used one. So easy to use and doesn't take a lot of hand strength (as long as your potatoes are cooked enough). Easy to take apart and wash either by hand or dishwasher - easy to put back together. Great for straining spinach May 3, 2016 We use this to drain thawed spinach for varios recipes. This process used to be time consuming and frustrating since it had to be done by hand. This strainer really speeds up the process. What the heck is a ricer???? June 22, 2014 Last year at Thanksgiving, I was a guest at my mother-inlaw's house. She was boiling potatos for dinner when suddenly she pulled out a "ricer." In my 52 years, I have NEVER heard of a ricer and watched her use it. I have to admit, they were the best mashed potatos that I have ever had. My 23 year old son is a great cook and he uses the ricer more than I do. Are you tired of lumpy mashed potatos? If so, a ricer is the solution. Once you use it, you will be hooked for life. | 80% I just love this light July 31, 2017 I just love this light, streamlined, perfectly engineered bench scraper (prior I had no idea one could love a bench scraper). It has a lovely look as well as feel, and even features a 6" ruler on its cutting edge. Buy it. It should last forever. I consider it the best on the market, and my favorite tool in the kitchen. Love this tool June 18, 2017 No decent (or indecent) cook should be without this handy tool! I use this utensil any time I need to scrape, chop, slice or cut. Solves the problem of scooping chopped vegetables all at once and dumping into the pan. It fits easily behind my cutting board out of sight until I need it. I've even used the edge to measure and cut brownies! Awesome! Great help in preparing meals August 16, 2015 This is a good quality piece of kitchen implement. If you don't have one, you will enjoy using it. BUT, if you don't already use a scraper, you may have to change your current habits. If you are like me, you can forget you have it, leave it in the drawer and miss the benefits of its assistance in preparing meals. It took me awhile to learn to stop using my hands to move food from the cutting board to pans and use the scraper instead. It's much faster. Enjoy. Stainless Steel Scraper February 3, 2014 I had earlier bought a plastic scraper, but it's curved, I guess for a bowl and doesn't work on a flat surface. This stainless steel Norpro scraper is very simple in construction and sturdy enough so it won't warp for my purpose which is to scrape up dough from the work surface during bread making. There is a bevel made on the back of the long edge which makes it more effective. The back is completely flat which stores nicely. I like the one piece construction, easy to clean and even drop in very hot water to kill leftover yeast. I read some reviews that commented on the paint in the ruling, so I'll have to see, no big deal to scour away. I don't see this as a chopping tool for veggies regardless of the sales blurb, but it's sharp enough to cut dough into general pieces. This is the BEST! June 20, 2009 This is the best Scraper/Chopper ever. It scrapes up dough sweetly on my granite counter top. I also have used it to scoop up mixed chopped veggies on my wooden cutting board. It's a lovely versatile scraper. I especially love the health aspects of it being stainless steel, it is much better then anything with a plastic or wooden handle. This is so convenient, I use it all the time now. It looks fantastic and functions even better! It cleans up super easy with a little dish soap, hot water and then I just wipe it dry! The measurements on the side are nice when I am cutting certain veggies to keep them all uniform. Really a terrific product for every kitchen and the service from the seller was amazing. It arrived super quick and in no time it was washed and being used in my kitchen! | 0% There are no reviews yet | 0% There are no reviews yet | 0% There are no reviews yet |
Four Star Reviews: | 14% Smooth Thanksgiving Mashed Potatoes ! November 28, 2015 I'm a new fan! Glad I picked this one because I had a whole lot of mashed potatoes to make. My only complain is that the pin comes out too easily. If you tilt it a little it comes apart. It's suppose to come apart for cleaning but if it had a lock to hold it in place, it would be an improvement. Nice ricer. This one holds quite a bit so ... April 9, 2015 Nice ricer. This one holds quite a bit so it makes the job go quickly. The construction seems sturdy and it breaks apart easily for washing. I saw a few reviews when trying to decide to buy that the handles bent when using. My question is what were you shoving in there. The only reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is that the pin holding the two pieces together seems to want to pop out of one end easily. Can be slightly annoying if you have multiple things to rice like a large batch of potato's for making gnocchi like I do. Otherwise good product. This ricer did a nice job with the potatoes December 23, 2014 This ricer did a nice job with the potatoes. Unfortunately, I had left the skins on, and the skins stuck in the ricer and prevented it from working as smooth as it could have. I am looking forward to using peeled potatoes on the next try. This is heavy duty and should hold up well. excellent December 16, 2013 The potato ricer worked better than I had imagined. We used it for mashed potatos for Thanksgiving and went through 20 lbs. in no time at all. I would recommend this ricer. My other ricer is so small compared to this one I can get things done so much quicker. I can hardly wait to make Lefse with it, should be much quicker. Actually so quick my daughter took it home with her! works well November 18, 2012 After reading some of the other negative reviews I wasn't sure about this ricer. I'm glad I got it though! It works really well, we use it with red potatoes so they're not too big. The nice thing about this ricer compared to the traditional round design is that it has lots of surface to rice the potatoes. It was quick and we made short work of 5 pounds of potatoes. The only thing I don't like about it is that if you're not careful the pin holding the parts together might slip out, this happened once for me. Overall it's really easy to assemble/disassemble and clean. A nicer ricer January 14, 2011 This ricer works good for the price.I like lumpless fluffy mashed potatos & this unit really helps to make that happen, but I only gave it a 4 star rating because it doesn't process all the product placed in it in one ricing. Some of the product squeezes between the bucket & the press & doesn't make it through the ricerwhich requires it being re-fed, but that's not a deal breaker. | 12% Good scraper July 18, 2017 I use it as just a scraper. Doesn't seem sharp enough to chop without mutilating. Pretty good but with a little extra care in manufacturing, it would be perfect. August 5, 2015 I haven't actually used the one I received yet, but I am sure it will serve it's purpose very well. I did use some fine sandpaper to remove the sharp edges from when the metal was press cut into shape, not on the sides but at the end of the blade. It would have scratched the cutting board, now it won't. Four stars - almost perfect May 31, 2015 This little scraper is really handy for scooping and scraping. I don't find it sharp enough to replace a knife for any real chopping or cutting (although it might if you sharpen it like some of the reviews mentioned), but it works great to divide soft stuff like dough or even cut fats into flour where a blunt blade does the job. The scraper feels really solid and sturdy. The stainless steel is quite substantial and does not warp with use. The bottom edge is beveled to make it sharper for scraping and cutting, but the corners and other edges are slightly rounded/polished for safety. The rolled over handle can get a little slippery if your hands are wet or oily, but I'm happy to put up with it in exchange for the 1 piece solid steel construction (no pieces to break off, no crevices for gunk to get stuck in!). I also appreciate how the rolled handled means that there is one flat side to this scraper - it makes it easier to store and to use it as a giant spatula. The only thing which I dislike is that the brand and the measurement markings are printed, rather than etched into the metal. Even worse, they're not even printed well - the markings definitely look like they'll disappear after a few washings or contact with sticky dough or any sort of fats. Perhaps this isn't a bad thing as the ruler markings are slightly off-center (so the "0" is not at the edge), which I find irksome. tl;dr - This is a sturdy multi-use kitchen tool for scooping, scraping, and any blunt edge "cutting", but it would be even better if the printed markings were etched instead. Wonderful Multi-purpose Tool! February 3, 2014 I love this tool and only regret I did not get it sooner. It is invaluable for dividing dough and transporting chopped foods from the cutting board to another destination. I was surprised to find how quickly I have come to rely on it as a bench scraper, and as a result my kitchen counter remains a more effective work area during major chopping events or after rolling out or forming dough. The fact that it's stainless steel and easily cleaned means you can quickly move from one application to another. I now keep it standing on its side on the counter at all times, ready for action. Get one of these; you will love it! I have deducted a star because the "tape measure" washed off the first time I scrubbed this otherwise wonderful tool. I hope it was FDA-approved ink, because some of it probably ended up in my pizza crust. There was no stamping in the metal, so as soon as the ink was gone it was like it had never been there. I would have enjoyed using that feature, but still love this tool for its main purpose. Does the job October 30, 2013 This stainless steel scraper works for its intended purpose. I wouldn't rely on it being a good chopper, however. I use it to cut dough in half, but it would not work as well if you needed to chop vegetables or meat for a stir fry. It definitely would not take the place of a knife. It's a great bargain and the 6 inch measurement on the side is helpful. I would recommend it. | 0% There are no reviews yet | 0% There are no reviews yet | 0% There are no reviews yet |
Three Star Reviews: | 5% NOT for squeezing the starch out of potatoes. August 15, 2017 This works OK for a potato ricer with cooked potatoes for mashed potatoes. However, I also use it for squeezing the starch out of grated potatoes before frying them, and it bent the first time. Useless for that. I was somewhat disappointed in this item December 18, 2016 I was somewhat disappointed in this item. I tried it to mash potatos at Thanksgiving. The potatos kept squishing out of the edges of the press, and the presser handle came loose from the frame. I ended up using my old fashioned masher, which took more effort but at least I was not as frustrated. Broke on first use May 27, 2015 It still works but it broke the first time I used it. Best way to do mashed potatoes. Good December 8, 2013 I only gave this 3 stars because I don't use it much because it is too big for my hands and I don't have enough strength to press it. I wish I had bought the smaller version. Good quality materials. A little flimsy May 19, 2013 I used this to squeeze spinach very dry, rather than for potatoes. It worked well, but it's clearly not commercial quality despite the name; it came close to breaking every time I gave it a really good squeeze. The spinach also had a tendency to leak out through some small gaps in the construction, and I assume potatoes would do the same. So I'll keep it and use it, but I'm already looking for a better-quality option. | 5% Description is inaccurate January 8, 2016 I'm returning this scraper simply because the description is not accurate. It is listed as being 6 inches in length, but when I held it up to a ruler, it is actually about 5 3/4 inches long. It may be a quality scraper but the description is definitely wrong. So-So...Probably Wouldn't Recommend January 7, 2016 So, I'm a little mixed on this....the product seems fairly sturdy and exactly what I expected to be with the exception of two details. Firstly, the number five on the measurement area is wearing off (and was that way straight out of the packaging as I only received it yesterday). Secondly, there's itty bitty pitting across the entire scraper. I've included pictures with my review so you can see what I'm talking about to decide if the pitting would affect what you're planning on using this scraper for. For me, one of the uses that I bought this for is for smoothing the sides of my cakes that I decorate. I'm pretty sure this won't result in smooth sides for me whatsoever. However, if you're using it as a chopper or scraper and only the blade area of the chopper is going to be used, it seems pretty sturdy and like it would chop well. Ultimately, it would depend on the use it's intended for but regardless, I just think pitted metal is disappointing from a quality standpoint. I would opt for one without markings on the front December 4, 2014 Works well for moving chopped veggies around, and portioning dough. But the "chopper" description is ridiculous - there's no way you could chop anything with this. Also, I found after using it to scrape some pie dough off parchment paper, that the black measurements on the front began to peel off and embed itself into my pie dough. Hopefully ingesting it is not harmful, because I thought it was leftover herbs until I washed this and noticed half the lines were missing! Kind of disappointed about that and the black measuring marks on it ... July 21, 2014 I bought this because it said it was Made in the USA but when it arrived it said Made in China on it. Kind of disappointed about that and the black measuring marks on it were already rubbing off. I thought they were etched into the steel.but they are not. It still works. markings come off January 8, 2014 I use this as a scoop to get cut up herbs into a pan, and also to cut dough. It works well for both of those tasks. My problem with it is the Norpro logo and ruler markings. At first, i thought the ruler was a great idea, but after a few uses/washes, the markings have completely come off. Honestly, if it had never had them in the first place, I wouldn't miss them, but it kind of sucks that they came off. | 0% There are no reviews yet | 0% There are no reviews yet | 0% There are no reviews yet |
Two Star Reviews: | 3% Not What I Was Hoping For March 2, 2016 Having used one of these from Williams Sonoma, I wasn't expecting this one to feel so cheap. I do expect this to break or cut me. Underwhelming, and it took three shiipings May 30, 2013 Works best with baked potatoes and degrades from there. Softer products ooze out around the edges of the pusher, up to half end up in the back. The original purchase was returned for misaligned assembly. The pusher handle was cocked off to the right by fifteen degrees. The replacement was returned after the spot welds connecting the pusher face to the handle failed while ricing baked potatoes for a large Duchess serving at a dinner. Ten pounds shouldn't a life cycle limit, even if it was during a single prep period. The final replacement hasn't failed, yet. There is the possibility of another large Duchess prep. However, at this point it might be more reliable to use the food mill. Small potatoes April 20, 2012 Product would fine strong construction and stainless steel.Functions what it should. The Big issue is the fact that they have FINGERLING POTATOES pictured on the box.I an a Exec Chef and it is fine for a couples dinner but sad for large production.Picture is misleading and false advertising.. | 2% Sharp edges inside make it a little scary to use December 27, 2016 This bench tool came with a really sharp edge on the inside of the curve. If you accidentally stick your finger in there it could cut you pretty badly. Other than that it seems like your standard bench scraper. I use an oxo brand one more often because the handle is rounded and more comfotable, and there aren't any pointy corners or sharp edges. Functions well, fair price, deficit in quality control September 27, 2016 Measurements in black along bottom edge not etched or otherwise sunken, so will likely wear off quickly. Poor quality control -- two out of three I was shipped still had a sharp, burred edge on one side. Otherwise, looks good and functions well. My old scraper/chopper (non-brand) was getting a little dull so thought I would buy a new one April 23, 2016 Unhappy! My old scraper/chopper (non-brand) was getting a little dull so thought I would buy a new one. This one has a flat edge so doesn't really chop veggies well without a lot of strength. The old one wasn't sharp by any means, but did the job well. This Norpro has a total flat edge. Haven't decided whether to return or not.since I already have the old scraper/chopper whch works better than new one. Watch out January 14, 2016 I was making bread and wound up with wet, sticky dough on scraper. I was trying to wipe it off and I got a bad cut on my finger. I had no idea it was so sharp and I did not see anything on the package about it being dangerous. Be careful. Inky Dough September 14, 2014 I absolutely loved this for the first eight times or so. Then as I was dividing dough, I noticed black streaks on my dough. The black ink used for the measurements was rubbing off. Sorry, that's just really gross. I had always hand washed this, very gently at that, since it never got really dirty. I used a scrub brush to remove the measurements and brand name on the front. It came off pretty easily. I will continue to use it. The only thing that is really, really stuck on good is the Made in China sticker on the back. | 0% There are no reviews yet | 0% There are no reviews yet | 0% There are no reviews yet |
One Star Reviews: | 9% poorly designed - It bent initially in the handle and ... April 9, 2015 poorly designed - It bent initially in the handle and we were able to fix it enough to use. It quickly bent again - unusable after that. BAD DESIGN—no consumer testing May 24, 2014 ProsHeavy constructionEasy to take apartConsPseudo sharp edges on handleVERY SMALL meshMashes food---Does not rice foodThe stop is too high to fully press the top part against the mesh.Expensive bad design.Avoid this product Large Ricer excellent for preparing larger quantaties. December 25, 2013 I have always wanted a ricer and I am glad I went with this large one. I was able to prepare 5 lbs of potatoes for thanksgiving with ease. I recommend it. Broke after three uses January 9, 2013 I bought this Norpro Ricer and used it to rice about 10 lbs of potatoes on Thanksgiving. It seemed to work OK but the handle was bending a little when I applied a lot of pressure. It finished the job though and I thought it would be OK. The last time I used it, only the third time, the metal hinge that holds the handle on bent and I was unable to get it to work. I tried my damnedest to get it back into place with no luck. I would not purchase this item. A ricer should be able to take some strain without bending. Be warned. Worthless January 8, 2013 Bought this, used it one time. The handles bent like they were made of aluminum. I am very disappointed in this purchase. Far from commercial quality... November 25, 2012 I was wanting an all around ricer for various meal preparations. Did my research and decided to pay extra for this "commercial" quality ricer. I am very displeased with this product and embarrassed myself during thanksgiving using it. We all got good laughs but ended up using the old hand smasher. We used super soft potatoes quartered and the handle bent... Not commercial quality! I also have to say that the product is not the same as on the box/pictured. My product's handle is made of flat metal not the half domed - more solid handle, and the face is the only surface with holes - not the sides. The one pictured on the packaging box and picture description, by the looks, seems that it would work wayy better. Mine is now beyond repairs :/ and I bought this back in July and barely used it for the first time thanksgiving and it broke. I hope there is something amazon will do.As for finding a commercial quality ricer... Still looking. Please comment if anyone knows of a more reliable/versatile ricer. | 1% Scratched the heck out of my kitchen counter August 5, 2017 Turn around and walk away. This scraper has a very imprecise edge that results in a slight serration. As a result, scraping flour off my counter after a pizza dough session, it's now scratched like crazy. I should have checked for smoothness before I took it to our counter, now I probably have to replace them. For the record, my counter is soapstone. The stainless steel would probably scratch up almost any counter material short of real granite. Bottom Line: This product is poor quality, and my scratched counters are the price I paid to save 2 bucks on a better product. Use a plastic scraper. I do not recommend buying the "scraper" July 30, 2016 I had thought the scraper end of the instrument would be sharp like a knife. But if is not sharp at all and is not usable as am effective scraper Markings wash off easily & ink comes off onto dough June 10, 2014 I bought this 2 months ago and have used it about 5 times. It says it is dishwasher safe, but I have only hand washed this item with a soft sponge. After about the 3rd use, I noticed that the markings started to fade. The next time I used it, I was chopping scones and noticed that the ink was transferring onto the dough... yuck! I carefully washed it once more and now the markings are almost completely gone. I suppose I can still use it as a scraper, but I initially bought this for the measurements (to chop even cinnamon rolls, etc.). I realize this was inexpensive, but I expect more from this brand. Ink comes off after first use March 14, 2014 I've been using this in my bread baking and the ink on this thing came off into my dough on the first and second uses, rendering the measurements useless and making it so I had to re-make pounds of dough. There are so many similarly priced options that I cannot recommend this one over all the others. I don't know how it has so many positive reviews. Perhaps they changed the ink? | 0% There are no reviews yet | 0% There are no reviews yet | 0% There are no reviews yet |
