| Sturdy and useful!September 21, 2016 I got this for my mother for christmas last year and, she loves it! We have both used it a few times to make mashed potatoes and they are smoother than ever. When i first decided to order the ricer i was worried it would break due to the fact that is made out of plastic. But it's very strong it should hold up for a long time.its VERY easy to clean all i do is remove the strainer rinse of the potato scrub it a bit and let it dry with the main body of the ricer I rinse it out and scrub it thoroughly and let it dry and it only takes a few minutes.Overall I, think this product is useful, sturdy, easy to clean making it worth the money! I don't have babies, but I love potatoes & such. The only thing that I would add is that you must use it with hot or warm potatoes. I tried it on a cold cooked sweet potato and it didn't work very well at all. I haven't tried it on veggies yet, but I'm sure it will be fine. I would not recommend leaving the peeling on the potatoes as they will clog the holes and it's harder than you think to squeeze the ricer's handles together if you have small hands. I normally cut potatoes in quarters so they cook faster. I was able to fit 4-5 pieces at a time and even ran the butter through it with the potatoes. You get tiny even strings of potato. The benefit is that your mashed potatoes don't come out gluey from over mashing with a traditional potato masher. I can see using this also for homemade applesauce and if you have babies, use it to make homemade baby food! They were lump free and the texture was so smothered. Just amazing. I would've gave 5 stars but let me explain why I didn't. As I was removing the metal disks from the plastic, one of the disks sliced my finger open. It is so sharp. I didn't expect this. All I did was grab it to rinse. And it immediately cut me. | Not Raw but Raw..April 13, 2017 Perhaps I didn't realize it all had to e cooked before pressing through? Lousy for hash browns I never did them before having cooked them first. That's potatoe cakes..... Feel I should not have purchased this one at all. Waste of my money. Any kind of mixer would be better, faster and less messy .. very disapointed !December 1, 2016 Any kind of mixer would be better, faster and less messy .. very disappointed ! I dont know how other opinions could vary so much... So I cooked the potato's after peeling them so they cook faster. Feed them into this Ricer .. and potatoes squeezed out the sides and as I opened it to feed more potatoes in managing those squeezed out the sides potatoes was not easy and was messy with potatoes falling out on the stove and lumpy potatoes mixed in falling into the newly rices potatoes making what after all that ? yeah, lumpy potatoes the whole point of using this ricer. Then to top it off there was a layer of lumpy potatoes that did not get riced no matter how much I squeezed maker even more lumpy potatoes. This is a big pain in the rear. Using a stand mixer you use on the counter or getting out a hand mixer and washing a couple beater bars is much easier and provides more fluffy non lumpy potatoes. To bad my Kitchen aid is on the fritz. Yeah, and I cook... so, not sure .. but its certainly not for me. See pics... ...And O, not very strong plastic and I can see it breaking sooner than later at the rivet point you can see where there is pressure each time you push down with some force to make it squeeze through the ricer. Dissapointing PerformanceOctober 18, 2016 I was using it to "rice" soft tofu today. The handles flexed and gave. This means I'm scared to use it on anything harder than pre-mushed, mush AND imagine the potential strength lost when there is reduced leverage. A firm, hard handle would produce more leverage, making the task easier and faster. I don't always use a dishwasher, and this ricer is bulky and unwieldy to wash by hand. There was a jagged plastic edge I had to remove before using (Can't have sharp plastic in my family's meal, can I?). Overall, it's cheap and I wasted my money. For some reason I was expecting it to be a little heavier duty, maybe because it is so big. My husband also managed to bend one of the metal plates the first time he used it, so now we don't have the largest ricer size available to use anymore. We got it to mash up baby food, but it turns out my baby doesn't really like pureed/mashed foods... she likes small bite size pieces that she can pick up and feed herself, so we don't even use as much as I thought we would. | The ricer is inconvenient, messy, and doesn't work.February 9, 2017 I've tried to like this ricer, but I just can't. I tried to make cranberry sauce, applesauce, and last night potato gnocchi. I gave it a chance. Trying to press the cooked food through the ricer yields the same disappointing mess.The food inconveniently gets stuck in the press even using the largest disc, coming out of the sides rather than going through the ricer. If anything comes out at all. I've tried using smaller pieces of cooked food and get the same result. I had to press so hard that the handles bend, which is rendered more difficult with the messy process since food inevitably gets all over my hands.I also sliced my fingers on the sharp sides of the metal discs. With all the nooks in the handle it's a total nightmare to clean to boot. I'm tossing this one in my recycling bin. Good riddance!!! Broke the first time used.February 4, 2017 I bought this product to give as a gift. The recipient reported that it broke on the first use.
