Five Star Reviews: | 82% Recommended August 22, 2017 Product was received fine. Took about a week before I could use it due to phantom power supply. Tried recording with audacity. Sound quality is definitely good and noise levels are really low (if you do not audio compress and have a proper studio without external noises). Definitely a good mic to use.Found no defects as of yet. SO MUCH YES! I can't tell you just how ... May 19, 2017 SO MUCH YES! I can't tell you just how often I'm complimented on how clear my mic sounds! A+ for Podcasts, rappers, and streamers. Five Stars October 23, 2016 Wonderful mic for the price. Getting low noise floor and nice sound on my recordings. SO QUIET, AMAZING SOUND!!!! September 28, 2016 Such a quiet mic, no hiss even at the highest dB boost on my board. The quality from this is unmatched for its price. I love this mic! This package is great. The microphone allows me to record hight quality ... December 26, 2015 This package is great. The microphone allows me to record hight quality sound without investing my lifesavings to buy one of those "super high priced ones". If you know want quality my fellow musicians while being smart. This is the package to go with. Great affordable home studio microphone May 1, 2015 Great affordable home studio microphone! I use this microphone almost daily, and it's bulletproof. The sound quality is excellent. The pop filter and shock mount are quality, and I especially like that the pop filter mount is built right onto the shock mount frame. | 79% Stomps any USB mic. Great starter XLR mic! May 22, 2016 Audio quality is stellar. Went from a Blue Yeti to this and I'll never go back. Mic is light and professional looking. No directional recording switches, but all I do is cardioid so nothing is lost there. Works fine with Focusrite Scarlet Solo. amazing microphone, feels like I'm recording in a studio May 18, 2016 Wow is this microphone amazing! It feels like a great mic, it looks great, and it sounds amazing. There's really no downside to this thing. I guess my chief complaint would be that it's SO sensitive that literally anything you can hear with your ear (distance sounds, neighbors, ambient sounds) can all be heard through the mic as well. You may need some type of software to filter out background noise unless you're in a soundproof studio! Hehe. Definitely best bang for your buck. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED RECORDING MICROPHONE FOR VOCALS AND GENERAL USE April 21, 2016 I buy the things I review, I never trade positive reviews for free stuff. This is an amazing microphone for an equally amazing price. I've been a fan of Audio Technica microphones since the mid 1970's. Their products are not following fads, they are innovative and quality for reasonable prices. In my studio I have many microphones that sell for over $1200, I've owned several U-87 and I've built some of my own large diaphragm microphones so I'm familiar with the beasts with over 50 years of recording and pro sound experience under my belt. This Audio Technica model has the largest diaphragm of the whole AT line regardless of price. Diaphragm size wise you can't really compare it to the top two most expensive AT models since those use completely different diaphragm construction. Of the microphones that AT offers with traditional LDC construction this one has the largest of them all yet it's one of their lowest price models. I have an AT 4047 which cost about four times as much as this AT2035 and while the more expensive model does have a slightly different sound I can't say it's really better. I've recorded the same vocal using both and often I prefer the AT2035 because it has a bit smoother response, a little less bright above 5K. The AT2035 is really a very balanced and excellent sounding microphone, I will probably buy another one so I have a stereo pair. Interested in how the size of the diaphragms stack up? AT2020 = .63" AT2035 = .96" AT2050 = .80" AT4033 = .45" AT4040 = .80" AT4047 = .84" AT4050 = .84" So there you go, the AT2035 wins the size competition and it's an excellent sounding microphone for a seriously bargain price. This microphone compares very favorably with my vintage AKG 414B-ULS microphones, very smooth frequency response. The shock mount that comes with the AT2035 is very tight, makes it a little difficult to get the mic in and out, this mic slips right into the shock mount that came with my AT4047 so it's easy to switch back and forth between the two for different vocal tracks. As a side note, the AT2020 is another incredible deal, it's very low priced compared to other professional microphones but it does not disappoint in sound quality. I have several of those which I use for mic'ing up my 4x12 Marshall cabinets, l love the clear and even sound these microphones have. I own several MXL LDC microphones which always need work to sound great, I've replaced the diaphragms in five MXL 2001 and use these on drum toms. I wish I'd known how good these low priced AT microphones sounded before going down that path, the AT2035 makes an excellent tom tom microphone too and it's all done, you don't need to spend an afternoon disassembling mic's and soldering fragile expensive components. The diaphragms I installed in my MXL mic's cost as much as a done AT2035, save yourself the work and get the AT. Highly recommended! Good music to all! Great mic! August 24, 2015 This is a great mic, with amazing sound. The quality of this mic meets or exceeds mic's that cost much more. Love it. January 15, 2015 Can't be beat for the money. This is one of the cleanest and as-good-as-it-gets sounding large diaphragm, studio microphones. The only noticeable upgrade from this would be in closer to $1000 range where you get less bias noise (which is very small already comparing to most in $200-$400 range). Excelent dynamic range suitable for gospel singing and is sensitive enough to pick up the tiniest of the details (needs a very quiet studio as expected). The wind-screen that comes with is a very functional and effective basic screen. Shockmount is very good as well. The cable is a plus. |
Four Star Reviews: | 7% It's better than the Blue Yeti July 28, 2016 I am a singer on YouTube and I mix my own songs. In order to celebrate my new sub count, I decided to get a new microphone because my old microphone (The Blue Yeti) picks up too much white/background noises and I get these weird screeches now and then. Anyway, after reading through many reviews online, I decided to get an XLR microphone and so I got this and I'm currently using it with the Scarlett interface. To me, the microphone sounds alot clearer and cleaner compared to the Blue Yeti and I dont hear alot of hums or background noises either. But still, if ur room is untreated, you should still expect some minimal background noises and another thing I also want to mention, is that this microphone could actually sound a bit harsh, flat and nasal to some people (because it sounds neutral like what u put in front of it) but if you know how to use an EQ, De-esser or mix properly you shouldn't have much problems.Overall, for the budget, I highly recommend this microphone for anyone thinking of switching from a USB condenser mic to an XLR cable mic. the included pop filter is actually good. Included cable is also of decent quality May 17, 2015 Solid mic for the money, very quiet, versatile and flexible. Owned this one for just under months now and I can say it's served me quite well in the home studio. Surprisingly, the included pop filter is actually good. Included cable is also of decent quality. Great package for the home-studio budget musician. Great budget mic October 28, 2012 I swear to whatever god you believe in that I've chosen at times to use this over a u87. That being said I'd rather have the u87. It just depends. I'd recommend this mic as a great starter mic for for the home enthusiast. It work well with cheap pres but really opens up with better options. It pairs well with grace in my humble opinion. | 11% Very Nice! September 10, 2017 Great reviews and nicely made. So far, I've only recorded my tenor sax with it, which certainly needed a fair amount of EQ. I suppose it's par for the course, but if response is as flat as it's puported to be, I'm not sure why the horn sounded honkier and stuffier than it does in reality. Rolling off the mids and boosting the highs resulted in a fine recorded sound. This microphone is amazing. The quality is way better than I expected ... July 8, 2017 This microphone is amazing. The quality is way better than I expected for the price and the included shock mount means one less product to buy at the same time. My only concern so far (I have only had it a week now) is that the included XLR cable was defective - the signal was inaudible due to excessive static. This was easily remedied by purchasing a replacement cable, however. Didn't come with an XLR cable but is an amazing mic. May 6, 2017 I'm sad it didn't arrive with an XLR cable as advertised. Otherwise it would be five stars. I also understand stuff like that can happen so I had to buy a cable here locally for $10 --AND ... Well, it's just a cable. Other than that it is a great mic and it works amazing with a behringer Xenyx q802 USB on PC and it came faster than expected. It's alright but you get NO STAND! February 20, 2017 So.... This is a nice package. Just FYI it does NOT come with a mic stand. Not sure why it's pictured here. You'll need to buy that separately. Top of the line professional XLR Microphone April 12, 2016 Definitely a top of the line microphone. I bought this for recording not only my voice but also for recording instrumental audio. It works great for all ranges of audio. FFFaaantastic My only complaint, which could be related to my mixer but I only have one at the moment, is that there is a slight hum in the background. This is easily fixed when you are recording audio, but if you plan on streaming with this microphone then you wont be able to control it. Again, this could just be related to the mixer I have (Behringer Q802USB 8-Channel). |
Three Star Reviews: | 6% Not as good as I expected July 12, 2017 I like how it records, but when there is a lot of moist in the air it stops working correctly. I really wanted to like this mic June 12, 2017 I really wanted to like this mic, but there was too much floor noise/background noise. We have 6 other mics we regularly use in our studio, and were excited to use this mic. We also have a quite few other Rode mics for different uses, but this one failed to meet expectations. The price was so good, I really wanted to like it, unfortunately it wasn't great for our needs. I could see this being an adequate mic if you needed mid-entry level pro voice over recording. Tinging when I recorded. March 30, 2017 I had to return this item because it was defective. I heard a Tinging when I spoke. Noise Floor testing so tinging, just when voice came thru. I called a music shop to ask about this sound, they said it was the mic. It started malfunctioning in less than 3 weeks. I rarely used it. Just be aware. NOT the Worlds Quietest Microphone... June 19, 2013 Cons:After the glittering success stories people had with this microphone, I gladly purchased one to add to my microphone collection. Only 3 hours after it arrived, I had it boxed up and ready to return to seller. This microphone claims to be the 'quietest', yet there were uncontrollable noise levels impeding through the microphone. I changed the xlr...nothing changed. Changed the power outlet of the preamp to avoid any grounding issues and still no good. Turns out, my $100 MXL 909 is the worlds QUIETEST microphone when compared against the Rode NT1A.Pros: Besides the noise issues in the microphone, the frequency response of the mic was fantastic. Very good presence in the mid range, with a gentle 1K boost. Really like the tonality of the microphone. Unfortunately I was not willing to sacrifice a good sounding vocal to high noise floors. Conclusion:Try a $100 MXL 909. Beautiful mic for the extremely LOW price. It will save you time and headache. Not Quite March 22, 2012 I don't mean to put this mic down at all, but I bought it hoping to improve upon the Shure SM58's I had on hand, as well as some older, rather cheap condensers. The SM58 is a workhorse dynamic that does quite well in a variety of situations. Unfortunately, the NT1-A did not perform much better, if any, in a recording environment. Other than being extremely sensitive to background noise, the audio quality was similar, which, believe me, is not a bad thing. It just didn't have a richness I was hoping for. | 4% no xlr cable December 26, 2016 I give this 3 stars only because the xlr cable was not included like stated in description. How disappointing when your child opens box on Christmas and cannot use it. Our local stores did not carry cable boo. Have to wait to have delivered. My bad I should have checked box before I wrapped it. XLR cable not included July 18, 2016 Buyer Beware. Item did not come with XLR cable. Was told that cable is no longer included in this bundle. Please check before you purchase to make sure! The mic seems good. But I did not get the pop filter ... October 3, 2015 The mic seems good. But I did not get the pop filter or cables that goes with the package. I love the mic August 24, 2015 Just a note, I love the mic, but there is NOT a pop filter OR an XLR Cable included with this. Bit of false advertising there. |
Two Star Reviews: | 1% APPEARS TO BE USED. August 16, 2016 This item arrived on today. I was excited until I opened the box. I paid for a new Rode NT1a microphone. This item appeared to be a B stock item. The items were not sealed in plastic and the mic cover was worn. I'll probably be returning it for that reason. I want a new unopened product. I would like to state right from the start that I'm a ... December 3, 2015 I would like to state right from the start that I'm a recording/mix engineer, so my review is based on several factors.#1: Ease of use.I give the mic 4 out of 5 for ease of use. It doesn't have ANY buttons/switches. This includes high pass filters. The only reason that is an issue for me is the fact that I have to add a high pass filter in the mix. I would much rather get it right from the source rather than "fix it in the mix."#2: Build quality. The mic gets 5 out of 5 on build quality. According to Rode, the microphone is manufactured in Australia. When you hold the mic, it doesn't feel cheap at all.#3 Noise floor.I give the mic a 3 out of 5 for noise floor. They advertise the mic as "The world's quietest microphone." It's true that it's a very quite mic, however what you need to take into account is the fact that the vocals will be quite as well, not just the room. I have to turn up my preamps to a significantly higher level to get a strong vocal signal than I do with other LD condenser microphones. If you have a cheap preamp, you may not get very good results this way.#4. Sound quality. The mic gets 1 out of 5 for sound quality. I hate to break it to you guys, but the mic sounds cheap without a ton of eq'ing. There is a very unnatural buildup of mud in the 200-400 Hz range. After I EQ the mic, I generally have to add a multiband compressor to the mids. The mids are really unbalanced... The highs sound tingy and harsh. If you buy this mic, I hope you are very familiar with De-Essers. This is a VERY VERY sibilant microphone.Long story short, this mic takes a lot of work to make it sound somewhat professional. If you want a much balanced sound for not much more, take a look at the Audio-Technica AT4040. At the time of this review, you can pick this up on Amazon new for $299.00If you already have the mic, check out getting it modded. Look up oktavamod. This will make the mic sound AMAZING. | 2% Two Stars September 26, 2017 came with the wrong cord and i couldnt get a hold of them to request a new one Mic, Good. Scarlitite,Bad. September 25, 2017 Mic is excellent. The audio interface is horrid. You have to unplug the usb cord and plug it back in once in a while. Why you ask? It makes you sound like a drunk, depressed robot until you reset the interface. Sometimes resetting it will not work and you stuck on mute while streaming. Find a better audio interface. Wrong exspected! July 26, 2016 No pop filter and XLR cable like i've exspect. Anyway THE Mic is Good, but look like the secondhand. Do Not Purchase August 18, 2015 I would not purchase this. I feel like I got stolen from. Terrible microphone. |
One Star Reviews: | 4% Dont buy the rode nt1a from amazon February 25, 2017 Dont buy it from amazon! When i hear it through my headphones it sounds fine but when u play it back it sounds horrible and has a bad hissing sound to it This particular microphone gets high marks in the recording industry ... January 27, 2017 This particular microphone gets high marks in the recording industry. JUST DON'T BUY IT FROM AMAZON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!I purchased this product in 2011 and now I finally get around to using it and it's noisy as a subway and drops out if I say a "T" word. This mics claim to fame is its quietness. Now I go to RODE website and the very first thing I see is a huge warning disclaimer saying they won't offer any tech support for mic purchased through, you guessed it. AMAZON!!!!!!!!!! Money down the drain. I wish I had open this mic back when I purchased it to increase my chances of a refund. BUYERS BEWARE!!!!!!!!!!!!! Don't use Warehouse Deals August 2, 2015 This is a good product but don't buy the one from Warehouse Deals. It was missing an important piece to mount the shock mount to a boom stand. I waited to long to need to hook it up and now I have to replace the part, since I can't get my money back. Rip-off. DEFECTIVE October 22, 2014 This microphone brand has a great reputation, but the ones being sold by Amazon.com are defective. I bought this microphone a few months ago, and was very excited to use it. I connected this mic to my m-audio m-track plus and then connected everything through Garageband. I got a lot of distortion feedback, but could not hear myself or the track, except for in my headphones. My Macbook Air picked up the mics signal, and the phantom power was definitely on, but nothing I sang recorded. After endless tries, going to different friend's setups to figure out the issue, everyone just came to the conclusion that my mic is defective. By the time i figured it out though, Amazon would not let me return the item. I'd recommend to everyone to NOT buy this mic, especially from Amazon.com because it will most likely be defective. | 4% Spent over an hour and couldn't get this dumb thing working April 7, 2017 Didn't receive cord with package. Drove 45 minutes to my nearest Guitar Center and bought the XLR cable. Spent over an hour and couldn't get this dumb thing working. Drove back out to Guitar center and luckly the guys there helped me. Turns out the Microphone is dead. So they sent me a dead microphone without a cable and made me waste half of my day trying to figure this crap out. THANKS ALOT!!!!! Dead on Arrival April 6, 2017 Junk product, had it in a drawer for a few months then when I needed it. Nothing but silence, just a dead mike with no output at all. Too late to send it back. Just a worthless piece of junk. Into the trash. Mic, but no Stand March 25, 2017 Mic is great as expected being an AT2035, but if going to spend more buying a bundle for a stand, I expect it to have the stand included. I have been trying to get this mic to work ... March 4, 2017 I have been trying to get this mic to work for wayyy too long now, the second i hooked it up and listened to it it was insanely muffled. I did a bit of research and ended up buying a new mixer, that didnt work... so i bought a phantom power supply and that also didnt work. I am now convinced this mic was dropped at some point in time before it had gotten to me. I have tried every single option possible, every time i call audio technica it sends me to a voice mail where i state my name, number and problem but no one calls me back. No pop filter or Cable included October 1, 2016 Pop filter and cable was not included. The mic is awesome, 5 stars for product, 1 star for Beach Camera |
