Five Star Reviews: | 81% Couldn't be happier with Tekton 1/2inch Drive 84 piece set. September 19, 2017 :o........ Literally my face for the first 5 minutes upon opening the package. Outstanding appearance of quality as I literally opened them 10 minutes ago. The ratchet feels precise and tight and the selector switch positively engages. For the price I don't think you will find a better or more "complete" set of sockets. Having worked on 100s of cars over 18 years using a mixed match set of 3/8 sockets and 1/2 impact sockets I finally decided to upgrade. Have no clue why I waited so long. The case is excellent in construction, durable and well built. 3 metal hinge pins hold the two halves together and could easily be punched out to separate the trays. Would buy again no question.... As far as how they'll hold up over time I have no idea but I'm sure I will get a couple decades out of them with occasional cleaning and maintenance (simple green and water, air dry, wipe with WD40). 1 gripe I'll make, there is a piece of cardboard that pads the sockets in the case when closed, where a thin sheet of rubberized foam would have been better... Still top notch!!! they seem like a good value since my old go to brand ... October 14, 2016 Flawless chrome and a more or less complete set, odd that 4mm isn't included but 5/32 fits. The case is compact, durable, and they don't pad the numbers with duplicate screwdriver bits or loose Allen wrenches. Ratchet seemed ok upon inspection, added some grease and its very smooth with little back drag. Will be looking at other tekton products in the future, they seem like a good value since my old go to brand is in decline. An impressive quality tool set with no skipped sizes, including 5.5mm. September 16, 2016 This Tekton 1/4 in drive socket set was purchased as an extra set to supplement the other tool sets that I own. It was a leap of faith purchase to purchase Tekton since the other tools I own are Mack, SandK, Proeto and Snap Attachment from the tool trucks that frequent shops every week.I had a small job to do around the house and decided to try out the Tekton 1/4 drive set to see how it preformed as compared to the other tools I own. After removing the plastic shrink wrap I carefully removed the cardboard sleeve with the giant Tekton Logo on the front of it, just in case there were any warranty or extra instructions printed on it. There were none of any consequence to mention, but I did notice that Tekton packages their products well enough to protect them. What was immediately evident was the quality of the blow molded case supplied with the 1/4 drive set. Yes it had the big Tekton logo on the front of it, also present were "1/4 DRIVE" in raised lettering so you know what is inside. Each socket also has a raised size, this allows for the ease of identifying if any size is missing. As one that possesses many tools and many of the same brand, it is sometimes frustrating having to open every case till you find the tool you are looking for. Spending time labeling them or marking the individual cases usually wears off in no time in a shop environment. The second thing about the case is the two separate latches that hold the case securely closed when not in use or during transport. The next thing that sticks out are the full length metal pins that act as the hinges for the case, no folding plastic joints that will separate after a couple of dozen cycles leaving the user with a two piece blow molded case that is duct taped together. The last item about the case is how robust it is. After squeezing the case in a variety of locations such as the corners, middle and each side individually leaves no doubt how durable it is. There is no doubt the case will be able to withstand a substantial load on top of it in a tool box, or the constant punishment of traveling around in a road service vehicle protecting the tools housed inside of it.On the bottom of the case are the 1/4 drive 72 tooth pear-head ratchet, the 1/4 drive handle, the 1/4 drive swivel adapter. These three items are held securely by a friction fit, they are easily installed and removed by slight pressure, no need to crush the case to install them and you wont need a crowbar to get them out as with some other brands. The ratchet features a push button release and a thumb switch to reverse direction, with the 72 teeth gearing it's operation is extremely smooth. There is also an 1/4 square to 1/4 hex adapter for using multiple bits. On the left side is a 2.5" wide X 5.5" long X 1" deep storage section for extra bits, nuts and bolts or whatever you need. Now the sockets. The lower case sockets just lay in the recessed spots made for them. The Metric sockets are on the bottom. The size range is from 5mm to 14 mm, both shallow and deep sizes, with "NO SIZES SKIPPED". This is an extremely important feature that other brands fail to realize, an 18mm bolt is not the same as a 3/4 bolt, close, but a stripped bolt head is in your future if you fail to realize this. Another surprise and important feature is the addition of a 5.5mm size, they are almost impossible to find on other brands and if you ever worked on one of Henry's cars, a 5.5mm is a necessity. The upper case includes a 3" and a 6" 1/4" drive extension with a 5/8" and a 3/4" knurl respectively, both feature a spring and ball that lock into the detente on the socket. The sockets range from 5/32" to 9/16" in both shallow and deep. All the sockets on the top case are securely held in place by a friction fit. Each socket is spaced approx 3/4" allowing for an easily grabbed and removed socket of choice, they are not all crammed in and difficult to remove. All of the components are full polished and have a positive feel while working with the tools.I was going to purchase a comparable set from an auto parts box store identical to the last 1/4 drive socket set I purchased. With the last set I had to purchase extra sockets in the 1/2, 9/16, 13mm, 14mm shallow and deep that were mismatched, and the 5.5mm were not even available. The box store only had a plastic tray not a blow molded case, so I have a bunch of sockets rolling around unsecured in one of my tool boxes.I do have one complaint about this Tekton 1/4" drive socket set. It is that the sizes on the individual sockets are extremely small and can be quite difficult to read. Making the socket size a bit larger or in a contrasting color would be a welcomed improvement.I would recommend this 1/4" drive socket to other people in the market for a tool set. I liked this Tekton product so much that I have purchased multiple Tekton tools since I purchased this set. All of the tools I have from Tekton were purchased by me with no freebee's or discount's from Tekton for this or any other review.I feel this is very important to mention since I have an extremely high standard for the tools that I purchase. They must stand up to the wear and tear I subject them to, and most importantly they must be dependable and not fail when I need them. Using this Tekton socket set within its design limits will undoubtedly last an extremely long time, considering the quality and thought that has been put into making this set. TEKTON 13001 1/4-Inch Drive Socket Set, Inch/Metric, 6-Point, 5/32-Inch - 9/16-Inch, 5 mm - 14 mm, 51-Piece Great set for the price, buy 1 for yourself, and 1 for a friend or family June 15, 2016 Really love this set. For the sale price, you can't beat it. It has just about every 3/8" drive socket you'd need other than 13/16 which my old craftsman 3/8" set had. But, you could argue that's getting into 1/2" drive territory. I ordered one for myself, and one for a buddy, and we're both very pleased with the set.The sockets all seem nice, haven't chipped, and fit-wise they are equal to or better than my USA made Craftsman set from 15 years ago. As do the extensions and U-joint included as well. The included ratchet is ok. It works fine, but the handle is a little short for my tastes, and it isn't up to the same quality as the other Tekton ratchets I own. For all intents and purposes, I bought this to replace my missing sockets in my craftsman set, so the ratchet will be a throw-away item I'll abuse and not worry if it breaks.Case is well thought out and designed, holds everything just fine. My buddy says the sockets stay in just fine even on bumpy Michigan roads. Best bang for the buck I can find January 4, 2016 I'm pretty darn new to cars - I've been doing most of my preventative maintenance and some minor repairs starting July this year. When I first took that on, I grabbed a cheap set of Kobalt sockets in a triple pack of driver sizes; they did not hold up. When I researched for new tools Tekton wasn't something that anyone seemed to be swearing by, but every single time anyone posted a problem with a Tekton tool - on multiple car related forums, a motorcycle forum, and Amazon a Tekton representative found the comment and took care of them. Neither Snap On or Craftsman could say the same. I felt confident that I didn't have a lot to lose with that kind of service, and so I bought this, the 1/4" driver set and a 1/2" driver; the quality is immediately apparent, and has noticeably better QC than the Kobalt set ever did. Maybe my opinion will change with use, but I'm certainly not worried. Wow - very pleased with these tools! January 3, 2015 I am a woodworker and I like good tools (most of my wood tools are Bosch, Milwaukee or Jet). I had a Craftsman 250 "Made in USA" mechanics tool set that I really disliked from the beginning. I bought Craftsman because that's what my dad had, and even though I didn't like it when I bought it, I kept it because it was the last "made in USA" mechanics set they made. The last straw with the Craftsman, other than the poor fit and finish, was the 36 tooth design for the ratchets. I was servicing my Ariens snow thrower and had a devil of a time removing the 8 bolts so I could grease the gears (because there wasn't a lot of room to swing the ratchet and the 36 tooth design required approx 15 degrees of swing arc). I was going to buy a Lowes Kobalt set, but (1) I'm not a big fan of Kobalt and (2) their similar sets were a mix of 6 and 12 point sockets. I have a Tekton torque wrench, and saw this set on amazon, so I sold the Craftsman set and bough both this set and the 13001 1/4 drive set. It is EXACTLY what I needed. Let me points out the pros:1. Excellent fit and finish - all the sockets and the ratchet is beautifully finished in chrome. No pits, no places where the chrome was thinly/thickly applied. They feel good to touch.2. The ratchet feels and sounds great. There's no other way to say it but some tools just feel good in your hands. These feel great.3. All the sockets at 6 point. Why do manufacturers sell 12 point sockets? The only purpose of 12 point sockets, in my opinion, are to strip bolts!4. The case is hard core - not flimsy at all.5. Every socket comes in both shallow and deep socket.6. The 3" and 6" adapters are nice add ons.7. In the 1/4 set, the screwdriver is a nice add on.If I had to point out any flaws, it MIGHT be that the 1/4 drive ratchet is a little short (at least based on what I'm used to). It's 5" in length (maybe 5.75-6" would be better?). A longer ratchet would give you a little more torque to bust free a stubborn bolt.. but might not give you flexibility working in tight places. Also.. the sockets on the top part of the case snap into place (if they didn't they'd fall when you close the case) - they snap it pretty snug (which is good) and can be a little difficult to take out (really grasping at straws here..). On the plus side.. the case gives you plenty of room on both sides of each socket to pop it out of it holder. All in all.. this set plus the 1/4 set would make a great addition to any mechanic/home owner user. A 1/2 drive socket set would also be in order (but I have a Tekton 1/2 drive ratchet to use with my 1/2 Tekton impact sockets so I didn't need the duplication). Very pleased with these Tekton tools. The Tekton website says "welcome to your next set of tools" - they will definitely replace any Craftsman hand tools I have! | 85% 100% satisfied customer July 27, 2017 I was nervous about purchasing these since I've been a long time C***tsman buyer, but I have to say, these fit in the hand incredibly well. The quality is far beyond anything else I have in my tool box. They do have a polished finished, which looks great in the beginning, but hey, they're tools and they do clean up very nicely. Truly, I could not be more satisfied with this toolset. Great Inch combination wrenches! June 19, 2017 This is a very nice set of Inch combination wrenches. They look to be well made and should last a long time. It’s a great alternative to the more expensive sets ive seen for sale. I cant see what those offer other then a higher price tag.Im not a mechanic but I do need them for taking apart and fixing equipment I own.I can definitely recommend them and I will also be purchasing the metric set. Fantastic for the money April 22, 2017 Fantastic for the money. I needed to increase my toolbox since collecting some newer model classic cars. And my homeowner collection had too many gaps for even occasional weekend wrench turning besides using on the mower. I can't complain about this set, except my eyes are older now, i need to use cheaters and the polished crome is very shiny. I'll need to rub some paint into the stamp to make the size more evident. Feel good and haven't slipped off while using. But again im just a weekend mechanic at best. Nice wrenches! March 26, 2017 These are nice wrenches. I haven't owned them very long yet, but I have used the set several times already for working on various automotive jobs. One wrench even got a lot of abuse (hitting it with a hammer) and they have all held up just fine so far.The initial quality seems good.If I have problems with these down the road I will update the review. Great Wrench Set! March 27, 2016 I love this combination wrench set! I have used them extensively and they are very durable and are high quality. This set has a great range of sizes for just about any job. I am also going to purchase some of the TEKTON jumbo combination wrench sets as well since I work with a lot of agriculture machinery that uses very large nuts and bolts. I recommend this wrench set to everyone!I have recently acquired a very large amount of TEKTON tools for my personal tool box that I use for automotive, agricultural, and several other applications. I have been extremely impressed with TEKTON and all of the customer service representatives I have had the pleasure of communicating with. Their customer service is outstanding and they were willing to help me out with anything that I needed. TEKTON tools are very high quality tools. TEKTON's tool warranty is amazing: if anything breaks, take a picture of it and they will replace it. I have never had any of my TEKTON tools break and I don't think I ever will, but I feel good knowing that all of my tools are covered by warranty. Many people pride themselves on having Snap-On tools or other extremely expensive tools brands. Take it from me, if TEKTON has the tools you're looking for, NEVER buy tools from anywhere else. They almost always have the best prices, except when compared to cheap tools from Harbor Freight that are terrible quality. TEKTON tools are great and are by far the best tools I have ever owned. EXCELLENT METRIC WRENCHES December 16, 2015 The wrenches are great, smooth plating feels good in your hands but perhaps my favorite feature of this wrench set is the red plastic carrier which keeps them nicely organized, yet easy to extract when you're working on a project.I liked this kit so much I also ordered the kit in "inches", this organized my tool cabinet and cleaned up a messy drawer of mismatched tools I'd collected over the last 40 years. I am donating my old wrenches to Goodwill and love working on mechanical projects with my new Tekton wrenches. I could not be happier. | 0% There are no reviews yet | 0% There are no reviews yet |
Four Star Reviews: | 14% Great set for the money August 27, 2017 Up purchased this set just to have one In my truck. Over a year ago. And it has worked excellent. Enough that I am buying a secound one for my other truck. Although I don't use them every day the set hasn't let me down and has gotten me out of a few jams. Only complaint is the ratchet. I don't like it. It works fine. Overall. But the forward and reverse lever has basically no tension on it. So you barely bump it and it'll just feespin. So for the truck this is great but if your gonna be using it all the time I would either buy a better set or just upgrade the ratchet. but guaranteed to get lost broken and will walk off SO for a minimalist set of 3/8 drive for the price with a quality feel and l June 21, 2017 Really impressive kit quality and spread. fit and finish is on par with blue point and nicer that craftsman in my opinion. My snapon box and tools have been retired to home and have earned their keep, but I moved to a field where tools are very much your mainstays, but guaranteed to get lost broken and will walk off SO for a minimalist set of 3/8 drive for the price with a quality feel and look this set will not disappoint. Great Value June 12, 2017 I needed a set of sockets to fix my car. I went to the retail automotive and found the quality to be lacking. These tools are good quality at a reasonable price. There is a positive feel to the detents. The case also fits the parts with just the right amount of grip to hold them steady. Great May 21, 2017 Great set. But I can see where they've cut corners. The sockets are only six point, which they clearly state in the description and the ratchet just isn't the best. I purchased this set as a backup to keep in my truck in case I'm stuck somewhere and I need one. First impressions are astounding. For the price the case they come in is surprisingly robust and the sockets have a good feel. The ratchet feels strong and hasn't broken on me yet. Overall I'm very happy with this set. Great set, with some sockets too tight March 1, 2017 some of the sockets are manufactured too tight, and you have to force them on to the wrench; a couple needed a rubber mallet to slip on. Hopefully the fit will wear in with time. Solid overall feel, a great set. Now if we could all settle for metric only (like the rest of the world), we'd have half the weight to lug around... Nice set both shallow and deep June 5, 2016 Nice set both shallow and deep. Although I just prefer metric this set came in metric. Also, the ratchet clicks in small increments. However, the forward & reverse selector itself seems to float around a bit and doesn't engage solidly. Don't bother me as use power tools and reach for standalone high end ratchet if I need manual ratchet. | 11% Metric wrench set GREAT! August 18, 2017 Toys arrived 8 days later I'm guessing if you order after Thursday you wait till next Thursday but did receive Next day ups. Tools are here and I'm excited! Would give 5 stars but the long wait was crazy! Good wrench set December 13, 2016 Nice set of wrenches. Feel nice and heavy and appear to be well made. excellent bang for your buck, great customer service July 23, 2016 Decent wrenches, definitely one of the better options in the price range, nice thick but not stupid thick beams, good fit and finishmy set had 2 9/32" and no 15/16" contacted tekton and had a 15/16" within a couple daysno matter what brand you buy always check your sets i've seen these kind of packing errors pop up even in pro brands Okay May 27, 2016 I have not used these wrenches but they seem like decent quality. However, the "rack/case" that holds them is flexible and does not hold the wrenches in place very well. Very good I definitely recommend February 2, 2016 Very good I definitely recommend, I have used for 6 month no problem at all no bend no stichi some scratches but thats all and the sizes are the best they dont skip any like others brands trying to steal your money by skipping sizes and then selling them in high price. | 0% There are no reviews yet | 0% There are no reviews yet |
Three Star Reviews: | 3% not the best but it'll do September 12, 2017 Decent quality, not the best but it'll do. Very nice chrome finish, but the sizes on the sockets are super small and hard to read. Has all the crazy small sizes no one ever uses. Someone needs to make a set of shallow and deep from 7-15mm, 1/4-9/16" without all the /32nds, only one you ever need is 11/32". The U-joint kind of sucks, it's too long and gets in it's own way. Ratchet is normal Chinese fair, but that's not bad nowadays; light, smooth action. Good set of accessories July 21, 2016 I sent this back as it was not what I expected. only small ratchet sizes so this is good for small models I guess. Lots of parts with it but the small ratchet is pretty useless for me. Beware of selector switch December 20, 2015 I really like the finish and feel of these tools. Only complaint i have is that the selector switch is not accented. It falls to neutral with little to no effort. If it was set to either stay in loosen or tighten, it would help alot. I believe i will probably get aggrevated after a while if i switch it to neutral while working. I will call TEKTON to see if it is faulty. Other than that, it would be a five star piece. Good inexpensive socket set November 14, 2015 This set is very good for just about any at home mechanic. There are a few little caveats I have: one is that the short sockets are pretty long and this might detract from your ability to get it in extremely tight spots. Two, the head of the ratchet is very large when compared to pricier counterparts, another disadvantage when working in tight places.Overall the fit and finish is nice, the box is great, but obviously for the price there are going to be a few downsides you have to deal with. Having all six point sockets is great, helps avoid rounding bolts. Tekton is a fine company, quality inexpensive tools and their warranty process is painless. | 3% Not for daily professional use September 26, 2017 Look Expensive , Feel like decent quality , Perform like cheap wrenches though . The 12pt end isnt very tight on the bolts - anything tight will definitly strip- same for the open end . Ok for someone working on small engines or around the house but not suitable in a professional automotive environment . Good value for the money I guess , but jokes on me for thinking they would be anything special Only for the backyard mechanic. February 4, 2017 The Tekton wrenches will work for your average work, but the steel lacks the strength to remove corroded bolts, and nuts in the salt country of northern Michigan. Will be sending wrenches in for warrenty because of the wrench head opening up under torque. 13 mm is almost large enough to fit over a 14mm bolt head now. Not too bad August 17, 2016 I enjoy the quality of the tool and they seem to be holding up well to my abuse | 0% There are no reviews yet | 0% There are no reviews yet |
Two Star Reviews: | 1% Poorly marked! Back to sender! July 24, 2016 The size marking on the sockets are so lightly engraved, I couldn't see what size each socket is. The case is ok, the finish of the sockets and drivers looked good, just the marking are inadequate even in a brightly lit room. This is the very worse I've (haven't) seen. Very disappointed. I bought these based on all the other reviews. I can't recommend. Missing 8mm Socket July 14, 2016 Great quality tools, but the kit came with a missing the 8mm socket! There's a spot for it with nothing in it. Bad packaging. The case and sockets are very good I would give them a 5 stars June 30, 2016 The case and sockets are very good I would give them a 5 stars. The ratchet is horrible, right out of the box it will not stay in its selected position if you are tightening it will move to the middle and just spin. Thought I might have been hitting it with my hand so I tested it with care not to hit the lever and it still went back to the middle and disengaged the ratchet. Ratcheting direction lever is flawed November 30, 2015 Decent socket set. No missing sizes on the sockets unlike most sets you see, and I paid more to get this. My only complaint is the thumb lever for switching direction on the ratchet. It is too large and too easily moved. Consequently it frequently gets switched over completely or moved to middle position (stopping the ratcheting action) during most jobs. The lever should be smaller and harder to switch, to prevent spurious flipping during work. This is a serious design flaw for a relatively expensive socket set. | 1% Works great tho. September 28, 2017 Gave me two 15/16" wrenches so I am now missing the 1" wrench. Works great tho. They're okay. Probably on par or slightly below modern ... November 15, 2015 They're okay. Probably on par or slightly below modern day Craftsman tools. They're not even close to being in the same league as snap on, Mac, Matco, or even SK tools, etc. But they're cheap. So you get what you pay for. I wouldn't want to apply a lot of torque with them. The cut in the box end doesn't seem to grip the bolts tightly and there is a lot of slop. Guaranteed you'll strip the nut or bolt. | 0% There are no reviews yet | 0% There are no reviews yet |
One Star Reviews: | 1% 9mm repeated May 10, 2017 It came with two 9mm and the 10mm is missing, send it back is more expensive than buy the missing 10mm Breaker Bar Broke Straight Out of the Box March 10, 2017 After waiting a week for delivery, I received the Tekton 3/8" Breaker Bar... which BROKE the first time I used it. Cheap. Avoid this product. Ratchet is junk August 11, 2016 As others have said box is sturdy and stays organized but the ratchet is absolute junk . It slips in and out of gear way too easily . Sometimes the lever sticks in the middle and turns both ways and will not engage . I have busted my knuckles numerous times and I am just going to throw it in the trash and see If I can find a name brand ratchet that will fit in the same box | 0% There are no reviews yet | 0% There are no reviews yet | 0% There are no reviews yet |
