Five Star Reviews: | 70% Smooth install & operation September 17, 2017 Easy to install. Came with good instructions and so far the light works great! The dimmer and switch proved to be a smooth operation. I thought it came with a border panel but I must have read the description wrong so just used my old one. Make Sure your LED lights are truly Dimmable June 17, 2017 i bought three of these dimmer switches to use with LED lighting. I've learned that not every LED light that claims to be dimmable is actually dimmable. Only 1 set of my LED lights is actually "slide" dimmable. The other 2 sets of LED lights provide 2 levels of brightness as the switch is slid up-and-down. When I complained to the provider of the allegedly dimmable LED lights, they told me that I needed to use a Lutron dimmer switch. Hello... that's what I bought because I know that Lutron is the best for LED light dimming. Installed easy even in an older home and works great with ... December 24, 2016 Installed easy even in an older home and works great with the LED dimmable bulbs I bought also in amazon Works fine with the Feit LED track bulbs we had August 4, 2015 Works fine with the Feit LED track bulbs we had. No flicker. Goes down to about 30% dimming. Went to the Feit website and checked for compatible dimmers. Their list just means the ones that they have tested their bulbs in and not all dimmers are tested. The weak link seems to be the manufacturing standards of the bulbs. Have this model and style throughout the house and it works fine. An old standard. Very Easy Install and Works Great! June 30, 2015 Very easy to install. I took off the wall plate, unscrewed the switch from the wall. I only had 3 wires. 2 black and 1 copper ground. I unscrewed the wires, and used the provided yellow caps to connect the wires together ( the Lutron wires come already connected to the unit so you have to use the screw caps to connect the wires from the wall). It didn't matter for me which black wires I connected, so i just used the "bottom" one to connect to the left Lutron wire, and my old "top" wire to connect to the Lutron right wire( right meaning if I am facing the back of the unit from the wall). It was a little tough shoving the wires back into the wall, but I got it done. I'd say the whole thing took me 10-15 minutes. I am medium handy. This is actually the second one I've done. The other I installed was a 3 pole switch was a bit more involved. I've also installed 2 solar timers which the 1st took about an hour, because I had to continuously run up an down the stairs to turn the power off , test, etc.In any event, don't be afraid. Just shut the power off and make sure you only need a single pole switch, meaning there is only 1 location to turn the light on, as opposed to a 3 way pol, meaning there are 2 different switches that control the light. If you need that, it's slightly more involved, but Lutron sells that as well. Enjoy! Works great with LED light January 24, 2014 This dimmer switch goes perfectly with the Philips 424382 11-watt A19 LED Dimmable Light Bulb. No flickering or buzzing and dims down quite low.It was easy to install. It comes with mounting screws and wire nuts. The rear of the unit is pretty large compared to a standard light switch, so you may want to make sure there is enough room behind the switch ahead of time. It took some careful wire placement to get mine in place. | 65% very nice switch September 1, 2016 The best price I could find on the net. Top quality switches-I wanted the slide switch on the side because it stays where you put it unlike the dimmer switches that as you raise the switch the lights get brighter. This type of switch keeps the brightness at your desired effect no matter how many time you turn on or off the switch, super easy install--3 wire color coded Great light switch replacement July 25, 2016 I love beating the price of big box on things like this. Naturally, when I ordered it, I didn't know I had a second light switch and truly needed a 3-way dimmer. Lucky for me, I always find another use for things like this. I installed it in our bathroom as I am starting to transition to overhead LEDs which are very bright. This works great. Now, I need good quality bulbs so the flicker disappears. Work great for modern low amp LED lights. Replaced rotating/click on-off dimmers that feel like impending mechanical failures January 2, 2016 These work great for modern low amp LED lights. Replaced some rotating dial/click on-off dimmers (that feel like impending mechanical failures even when they are brand new). The slide dimmer is nice for retaining desired dimmer settings while having a separate on-off switch. Both mechanisms work smoothly mechanistically and electrically. Appears well made Lutron is a venerable/reliable electrical manufacturer supplier.Don't know why these are no longer shelf stocking items at the big-box stores other than maybe the Decora (wide flat click toggle switches) switches have taken over the new home marketplace. Guess you now have to go to fine retailers like Amazon ;-) to get these switches. Perfect for LED (FEIT) - But notice the size September 3, 2015 This works perfectly with FEIT LED lamps. I use it in few rooms and so far I have not noticed any issue with flickering or instant on and off. The LED from Costco (FEIT) works without any problems. One thing to note, that the circuit in the back is quiet wide and if you have 3 Gang Toggle type plate, this one will not be a easy fit. I had to move it in the center position in between regular toggle switches, as the circuit was making the front plate move sideways. In a three gang setup, the new Leviton toggle switches are the only ones that can be used as they slimmer. I had to replace my old Leviton toggle switches, as they were half a centimeter wider and did not allowed me to use this dimmer it even in the center. Very Happy Customer April 1, 2015 Just beautiful! Seriously. I am so pleased with the outcome of this light switch. I first went to my local Lowe's to by a switch and none of them were that ascetically appealing to me... So I took my search to Amazon. This Dimmer pack is legit. Good results for lighting Control November 1, 2013 This unit performs as expected for lighting control. I have used Lutron wall switchbox mounted dimmers in other styles as well. I rated this one 5-stars because I do like its design so that it "saves" the brightness settings, by having the separate level control, allowing the lights to be turned on/off without necessarily disturbing that setting. Another design that I have used is the single switch type that functions as well, but the level must be set each time it is used. This is the first time that I have used a dimmer with a halogen light, and don't know how that will perform over time. |
Four Star Reviews: | 16% Good June 1, 2017 Good switch, the dimmer slide does not give a good range. It is very sensitive and when slide all the way down the lights are off but you are still using power.Make certain the rocker switch is off. Wish they would color code the wires. Still a great product. July 4, 2016 Works very well. My only gripe is that the small rocker switch is tricky to hit in the dark with your hands full. Still a great product. easy to use dimmer switch March 23, 2015 Attractive, easy to use dimmer switch. I bought this one to replace one that I'd installed about a decade ago. The knob-ish piece on the slider fell apart on the original one, so I deducted a star for the possible durability issue. Lutron usually makes excellent products. A good dimmer, if a little counterintuitive January 28, 2014 There's nothing wrong with this dimmer. It dims the lights, the action on the switch is nice. It doesn't feel cheap. If you know how to do basic wiring then it's easy to install.I have two minor qualms:#1 - The first light bulbs I used made irritating buzzing/squealing noises, especially at low levels. From what I've read, this is a common problem with most (if-not-all) dimmers, so I can't really hold that against this one. I solved this by using Phillips Eco-Vantage bulbs which, I guess, have a sturdier filament. If you want to use "decorative" globe-type bulbs, or cheap incandescents, the whining may be a problem.#2 - The overall design is a little counterintuitive to me, and that's why I'm giving it four stars. When I enter the room, my impulse is to flip the big switch up, but with this dimmer, the on/off switch is the little one at the bottom. It's a little harder to find by touch. The big switch is the dimmer control, but it won't actually turn the lights on and off. If you move the big switch all the way to the bottom, the lights will still be on, just at their lowest level. I would like this dimmer better if turning the big switch all the way down also turned the lights completely off, then I could use the big switch as the main control, and only use the little one occasionally when I wanted to maintain a particular brightness level. This is admittedly a minor gripe. Working well so far August 19, 2013 This switch was installed a couple of weeks ago and so far it is working very well. Convenient to use, and it looks good, too. Customers should be aware, however, that the wall plate shown in the illustration is not included with the switch. You have to buy the wall plate separately. | 17% Works very well and fits as expected May 16, 2017 I got this switch because I didn't want to change the other switches on the panel and wanted a dimmer. This works exactly as expected and fits perfectly. The problem is that I decided to get another one for the light next to it and because of the large size and the metal tabs on the sides, it wouldn't fit next to each other. But it wasn't too hard to pry off the metal tabs on the side and was able to fit it. I like the design though so I purchased again October 30, 2016 Replacing failed items of the same type. The previous lasted a ling time, but both had stopped dimming and one finally failed altogether. I like the design though so I purchased again. Also quite a bit cheaper on Amazon. I'ts an older model but it does work with many ... February 10, 2016 I'ts an older model but it does work with many dimmable LEDs. It was designed for incandescent bulbs. Dimming of LEDs is less smooth, but stays put when set. Lutron tech support said it was safe for use with dimmable LEDs. Have also used the newer TGCL-153. Dimming is smooth and stable when installed, it also has an adjustment on the face. The back end of the TG-600 was the size of an ordinary switch. The back end of the new one consumes nearly all of the space in a single gang box and has a ground wire. It can be single pole or 3 way, and work with incandescent, cfl or led bulbs. The ground is in there in case you are attaching to a non-metallic box, or non-grounded metallic box.The new one is a tight fit...it's putting a bunch of features in a small spot. If you buy either, check the web site for compatible bulbs/applications. Not Full Range Dimming for LED Bulbs April 23, 2015 I purchased this item to use with LED bulbs. The LED bulbs are rated for dimming, so I thought this item would be OK. They are Feit bulbs. My lighting installer said this item would only partially work, as it would not provide full range dimming. He used a dimmer by Lutron that was made for LED bulbs and offered full range dimming. This new item costs twice as much as this one....so now I know and so do you. You have to have both bulbs that are rated for dimming and the correct dimmer. Looks nice, feels inexpensive November 16, 2014 Works as advertised and looks nice relative to alternatives. Easy fit in most boxes; pay attention to instructions if installing multiple units in same box. Knocked off a star as on/off toggle feels and sounds inexpensive. Moves a bit too easily, wobbles slightly in track and emits an unsatisfying 'clunk' at end of travel. Dimming slider has a more substantial action but feels grainy. Purchased two - both behave the same way. Makes you wonder how long it will last. Good Light Switch January 22, 2013 We installed canned lighting and using this switch allows us to have a "theater" setting in our own house. The Good:1) Easy to install2) Dimming is easyThe Bad:1) Hot to the touch when on. I'm not sure if it's a fire hazard. It's not melting the plastic cover yet.2) The lights at full power appear to be lower than when I just had a normal off and on switch.3) If you flick the light switch off, you can easily hit the dimmer slider and the light will be dim the next time you turn it on (which is easy to fix, just an annoyance really).All-in-all I would recommend this product and would buy it again. |
Three Star Reviews: | 5% Three Stars January 2, 2017 Works fine with traditional light bulbs but flickers with LED Philips chandelier lights. If you get close to the maximum wattage with this ... March 12, 2016 If you get close to the maximum wattage with this switch, it gets hot to the point it can burn you. Use it for 300 watts or less. Annoying to have to switch basically two things "on" in ... January 12, 2016 I don't "love" this switch. Annoying to have to switch basically two things "on" in order to get it to full brightness. | 6% But for an older outfit would work fine. July 24, 2016 Didn't fit our 2006 box. 3 wires instead of 4. But for an older outfit would work fine. Meh March 11, 2016 While the dimmer works, it just doesn't feel that high of quality. The switch feels cheap and flops around easily, it doesn't stop with confidence. The slider is a little better. I don't feel this would hold up well to kids slamming on it or for very long at all. Maybe it's just that I prefer a more tactile switch. It dims LEDS but with a BUZzz. January 18, 2016 In addition to taking 8 days (vs normal amazon 2 day prime) it causes the wall plate to stick out from the wall as the switch does not fit fit inside the box. It also causes a very audible buzzing when dimmed with LED bulbs. This last issue is technically my fault as the switch is not advertised to work with LEDS. That being said in the questions, users post that it works fine. It doesn't. It makes a buzz. Buy a dimmer switch specifically designed to work with LEDs Good product, but only worked with certain brands/types of LED bulbs. April 23, 2015 Just ok. Looks and quality are great. However, I needed to dim LED lights. It worked on the old Phillips "yellow mushroom type" LED bulbs, but not with some cheaper "Edison type filament imitation" LED bulbs I bought (which claimed to be dimmable). Have also had issues with similar Lutron dimmers making a loud hum on the transformer of track lighting (I can not specifically speak to that effect on this particular model, though). Ok, I guess, but did not work for what I had in mind. Dimmer became an issue, otherwise very good product. April 11, 2015 After only four months in service, the dimmer stopped working. That's not typical, based on my experience with Lutron products. However, Amazon was kind enough to replace it. Hopefully, the replacement will not be a lemon. Works with these LEDs, but doesn't go very dim at all. January 18, 2015 Installation was simple enough. It's a great design, to remain compatible with existing plates. But with my dimmable LEDs, it only goes about 30-40% dimmer than full bright. A proper dimmer should lower the lights more than that. Reviews here that say they work with LEDs should include that caveat. |
Two Star Reviews: | 3% Switch and light are good, however the lowest dim setting is still pretty ... August 30, 2017 Switch and light are good, however the lowest dim setting is still pretty bright. Wish it was a true low dimmer. Seemed sturdy but didn't perform well with LED lights March 11, 2015 Seemed sturdy but didn't perform well with LED lights, didn't dim very low at all, returned and replaced with a switch that unfortunately doesn't feel as sturdy but performs much better. LUTRON SKYLARK S-600P SHOCKING AND REVOLTING December 8, 2013 Three to five years ago I purchased approx 10 of these units and now as many others have reported the on off switch is bad, So far have had to replace two of them this, quite shocking and revolting (no pun intended, well maybe). Lutron should import a better product or at least provide replacements Works great for a while, but then starts crackling November 26, 2012 I installed about six of these in my house. After about four years of use, three have had to be replaced. The dimmer slider still works fine. What dies is the on/off switch. On each one I have replaced, the on/off switch started crackling when pressing the switch. This is not a very reassuring or safe feeling when using the light switch. The switch still works, but I didn't want to tempt fate and risk anything bad happening. I have since switched to using different styles of dimmers - or ones with only sliders and no switch. | 6% There are better options, even for the not so picky… March 30, 2016 First off, the description says that the dimmer is "full range." This is not a full range dimmer. At best, you can dim your lighting by 50%. In fact, some of the description narrative speaks to some sort of claim to save money at 50%. Maybe Lutron's thinking is that 50% is "full range." I think there is another review somewhere that says the same. The last dimmer switch that I bought at Menards is a great switch. This one, however, the quality is so-so. Two stars: Inacurate description and quality that is suspect… only lasted 2 1/2 months March 22, 2016 ordered two of these to control some Fulight dimmable LED tubes. Good form factor for retrofit, but now after 2 /12 months one of them died. Not good! Too late for a return... defective lutron dimming switch January 19, 2016 Never had a problem with these dimmers previously. The one ordered this time came is a dusty package - seemed sealed. The switch does not work at all/ no electrical contact. This one purchased from Amazon, previous ones from Lowes. Had to make a trip to Lowes to get one that worked. I noticed that Lowes has changed vendors to Cooper from Lutron. Got one of those and worked fine for this install. Switch is a little "loose. " You can hear ... January 11, 2016 Switch is a little "loose." You can hear a little static sometimes when you flip it, and sometimes if it's set to dim, and you turn it on slowly, it doesn't turn on. then this one should work just fine. September 12, 2015 Ordered for LED's as some had posted on their reviews that this DOES work with LED's. Well, they do turn on and the product appears to be perfectly fine- but NOT for LED's!! At least not for mine. The lights flickered the minute the toggle was moved. Do yourself a favor, if planning to use these with LED lights, get the other one Lutron sells, that specifies it is for LED's and save yourself the hassle of returning it. If you are just looking for a dimmer switch for incandescent lighting, then this one should work just fine. Hard to find a position where lights don't flicker January 18, 2015 The dimmer adjustment is somewhat problematic. At full on, it works just fine. At a lesser setting, it's hard to find a position where the lights won't flicker. If you like that effect, then this isn't a problem. For us, we'd prefer less light without the flicker. We are using dimmable LED bulbs with this switch. |
One Star Reviews: | 6% Not Compatible with Dimmable LEDs March 21, 2017 Does not work for LEDs. I replaced my existing dimmer and have the exact same problem as before. The LEDs don't actually turn off and flicker very lightly at the lowest dimming setting. Don't understand why Amazon returned this as the third result when I searched for "LED Dimmer", I guess providing relevant search results in 2017 is still a struggle !!! Does not work properly December 8, 2016 These appear to be salvage or previously used items. Arrive loose in box. First one works OK but goes out randomly (on only a 150W load). Requires fiddling to get going again but goes out again randomly. Requested exchange but exchange unit didn’t work at all. Will live with the one that fails until I can buy another brand. Not recommended! Ordered Light Almond, received white. Needed to install ... October 5, 2016 Ordered Light Almond, received white. Needed to install ASAP, and fried one, So will have to go to another vendor to buy 2 more. Just to clarify a previous review. The manufacturer (Lutron) ... April 11, 2016 Just to clarify a previous review. The manufacturer (Lutron) says that this dimmer does NOT support dimmable LED bulbs. An equivalent dimmer that they support working for LEDs is their model number SCL-153-IV. | 6% Terminal for red wire missing? April 20, 2017 I am replacing an existing Lutron switch of the same item number but it has three terminals, plus a 4th one for the ground. It was wired to two black wires, the ground and a red wire. The Lutron delivered does not have a terminal for the "red wire" but only two terminals plus ground.... Not sure what to do or if I need to specify a different item. The actual dimmable capability is not good. It goes from bright to dim with no ... April 19, 2017 The actual dimmable capability is not good. It goes from bright to dim with no variance. The LED dimmable bulbs are not the issue. Not to be used w finagle led high hats February 28, 2017 Just got around to installing these switches on my led dimmable high hat lights in the kitchen and they flicker intermittently. Not happy and I waited too long to install them and now I'm outside the return window and I own two of them, hopefully the company contacts me for maybe a resolution of some sort. One Star January 19, 2017 This is a bad dimmer --- the light keeps on flickering. Need to replace this asap --- Junk! March 3, 2016 Absolute garbage do not by this thing! I bought this in December for a project that I did not get to until March. When I went to install it, simply tightening the polls warped the switch housing and it completely fell apart. This thing is made of plastic and very thing aluminum. Because I didn't get to my project right away I'm now going to buy a new one at twice the cost. Steer clear of this piece of junk. |
