I have a 12,000sqft home ant it works in every room. Easily cover 1.2 acres. Great picture
I couldn't live without this!
September 12, 2016
I only write reviews for products that I, hands down, could not live without.. and this, is one of them!I purchased the DXR-8 because I was needing a baby monitor for my two-year old that allowed me to do more than just watch him in his bed. Now that he's older, he plays in his room when he gets up from his naps and I hated that I couldn't see what he was doing unless he was playing near his bed. I searched everywhere for one that met my requirements: 1.) NOT WIFI ..those freak me out since we've all heard the horror stories of them being hacked into, 2.) had a parent unit with two way because I like having it on my nightstand at night and didn't want to use my phone, and 3.) had a wide lens camera and/or could be moved. I got recommendations from friends and didn't really like what I saw.I came across the DXR-8 while looking at what Amazon had to offer, and was only sold on it when I saw the review with the video! I purchased the extra wide lens also and it was WELL worth the $11 - seriously, this is one of the best purchases I've ever made for my son. In my opinion, I made an investment on his safety.I love that I can watch him while he's playing, talk back to him, and move the camera as he walks around the room. It will also come in handy once his little brother is old enough to play with him and I can keep an eye on both of them while I'm in the other room! :)Buy this camera! You WON'T regret it!(Pic is WITH the wide lens)
Happy Customer
August 19, 2016
I am very happy with thia purchase. The daytime image is very clear. And the night vision is even quite clear. We are using this camera with the wide angle lens that we purchased as well. And the night vision is still very clear with that lens. We did have an issue after about 4 months where night vision wasn't working. We contacted Infant Optics and they have us email them showing what the screen looked light when using night vision. They sent us a new one immediately since it appeared our camera was defective. They were amazing about it. I am very happy with this purchase and the service we received from Baby Optics. I am able to rotate the camera around the room to keep an eye on my girls. And I am able to speak to them through the monitor. That is a wonderful feature because we have two girls sharing a room and we often have to tell them to get back in bed and stop playing. I love this monitor and I would purchase from this company again. We purchased a second camera and added it to this monitor when we had our third child. The monitor is very simple to function. I did not even have to read the instructions to use it aside from when syncing the camera to the monitor. Very pleased with this purchase. The temperature reading has always seemed to be accurate for us. And I love that feature when dressing the kids for bed on nights when we do not have the air or heat on.Update: I had an issue with the night vision on my camera no longer working after about 4 months. I contacted Infant Optics and they were very timely getting back to me and replacing the camera. I would absolutely buy another product from them in the future. I love this camera and monitor and they customer service was A+.Please feel free to select below whether this review was helpful to you.
This camera and monitor are great and the costumer service is even better.
October 29, 2015
We have been using the Infant Optics DXR-8 video monitor for 1 year now and felt we could now give an accurate review. If you're in a hurry, the summary of this review is that this camera and monitor are great and the customer service provided by the company is outstanding (see below). So stop hunting and trying to weigh all the baby camera/monitor reviews and get this camera and monitor if it provides you with all the features you want. You really aren't going to find anything better. We initially purchased this camera and monitor after spending way too much time pouring over all the options available to us, trying to find the BEST camera and monitor for our new baby. Our main concerns were getting a good camera with quality night imaging, good sound and an easily viewable monitor. We also felt we didn't want a system that sent our image feed off to some remote server where it would be stored for some period of time for whatever analytics that the company performed. The Infant Optics DXR-8 fulfilled all our wishes.Set-up:Setting up the monitor and camera was easy. We followed the directions and had no issues at all pairing the camera and monitor. The camera was actually very light and we hung it up on the wall so it could capture the entire inside of the crib. Again, it was very easy.USE:The monitor had a clear picture in day light and more importantly, at night. The monitors range was sufficient for us and we had no problems even after we moved baby out of our room and into her own as our rooms were on different floors. The monitor always worked great and we could always see the baby when we wanted. The controls on the monitor were easy to use and the buttons were large enough to use in the middle of the night with no light or light from monitor alone. We appreciated the simplicity, particularly when sleep deprived. In terms of battery life for the monitor, we had no issues once we figured out our schedule. We used it pretty much throughout the day unplugged and kept it plugged in overnight night by our bed, pretty much like our phones. Occasionally we ran out of battery but not frequently enough where we thought there was something wrong. It was all we could ask for.Customer Service:Now for the best part. Coming up on a year of use, the power button on the monitor began to stick. We started having issues turning the monitor on and off and putting it to sleep. It got to the point where the monitor turned on and off by itself sporadically which was problematic at night. We wrote an email to Infant Optics explaining the situation and hoping for a repair or replacement. We received a response on the very same day we wrote (Sunday!) explaining that a replacement monitor would be easiest. So we sent the monitor back through the mail and sent them a picture of the package and the receipt. Given this proof, they were able to send out our replacement before they received our broken monitor and we received the new monitor in the mail in 2 days! But that’s not all. We accidentally sent back the battery for the monitor which we were instructed not to do (The monitor still works without a battery if plugged in). So we wrote again explaining our mistake. Infant Optics immediately got back to us again and sent out another battery for the monitor. 2 days later we had a new battery for our new monitor. Conclusion:Honestly, we could not ask for better treatment. This is the type of costumer service that actually makes you happy and reaffirms that the Infant Optics camera and monitor was the right choice for our family. You can’t go wrong with this camera and monitor. It works great and it is backed up by outstanding customer service that provides peace of mind all new parents should be afforded.
I've tried multiple video monitors. This is the best.
March 18, 2015
Okay, this is my fifth video monitor. Sixth, actually, because I replaced a Motorola one. I started with the Wi-Fi baby monitor, which my friends have liked. When I set it up it was easy but the camera wasn't very good. Also I needed a phone or some kind of device to check on the baby which didn't make any sense to me once I got it out of the box, because you want to monitor going all the time. So I returned that and I did a lot of research and ended up with the Motorola. The Motorola had a very good camera but it said pan and scan on the box and it was just a manual pan and scan. It had a temperature reading which I liked, and lullabies which is stupid. The reason the Motorola ultimately failed is the battery life And more importantly, the USB cable stopped charging that the damn thing. The connection was bad. So I returned that for another one, and that took even less time for the USB port to fail. Then I got a Summers infant wide angle camera, And the picture on that was truly craptastic. Maybe it was good for getting a wide angle of the room but you could make out almost no detail at all on the night vision. It was like watching my baby without my glasses on and I need my glasses. So finally I ordered this product and I also ordered one other video camera called easy at home. The easy at home camera was a lot cheaper; it was only $100 but it didn't have the temperature gauge which I decided I liked and there was a slight buzzing from the parent unit. That might've been solved with figuring out the interference, but then I realized I didn't need it once I opened this infant optics camera. So far I love this camera. It's got two lenses which is very cool, the pan and scan function is automated and can be controlled from the parent unit which is excellent. Before, with the Motorola, if the camera wasn't quite pointing at the baby, we would have to sneak in the room and move it and this one I can just do from the comfort of wherever I'm sitting. It's got the temperature function in the picture is very very very clear. The menu items and functions on the parent unit are very intuitive, and even better, so far it has a very excellent battery life. The Motorola, honestly, lasted about half an hour when not plugged in. This one I haven't tested to its limits but it's goes an hour or more without losing a bar. Plus, smartly, this one comes with a second charger, so you can leave two plug-ins in different places in the house where you normally will be in leave the thing plugged in all the time. The only thing that worries me about this one is it also has a USB micro charger, and that was such a disaster with the Motorola that I am wary, but hopefully this won't be a problem with this one. So I hope this was helpful for you. There are so many options out there and as parents we always want what's best for our child, but it's helpful when a product actually works and isn't garbage.
Video review with lenses comparison
April 11, 2014
First of all, this video review was recorded with my iPhone so the baby monitor LCD screen appears to be pixelated with grainy streaks. Similar to when I take pictures of my computer screen. Something to do with the different refresh rates of the LCD screens. Anyway in real life the monitor screen is actually very clear and the streaks don't exist. As far as I know, the DXR-8 is the newest model from Infant Optics. This monitor is sleek and stylish, reminds me of the Playstation Vita. Audio is good on both the receiver and the transmitter unit, as they can even pick up the humming noise from my air purifier. Haven't had the monitor long enough to test the limits of the battery capacity but so far I've played with it for about 3 hours and the charge dropped a bar only (25%).The exchangeable lens is a cool feature. The optical zoom doesn't lose resolution like a digital zoom, although this model does have digital zoom (and you can use it together for an intense zoom). The wide-angle lens is very cool, similar to a GoPro camera, it really extends the perspective to see the entire room.
I can't say much about the range about this monitor since my apartment is only 1000'. I get full signal strength in all the rooms, and it drops a bar (20%) when I shut the door. The only feature I wish it had was a docking system where I can slide the receiver unit onto and it will automatically charge (much like a charging phone stand). It does come with an extra USB cable to station an additional charging point in the house but I don't think it's necessary. This model does cost more than the average monitor out there, but I think it's a worthwhile investment.

and because I thought the 7" screen would be nice since we now have two kids
August 27, 2017
This is a solid little performer. I have an old Levana Astra from our first child that is still running strong. I bought a Levana Amara to replace the Astra, and because I thought the 7" screen would be nice since we now have two kids. I returned the Amara after just a couple days. I thought the image quality was substandard and the battery life poor. This lead me to the DXR-8. I have compared it to my Levana Astra that is still set up in the other room. The DXR-8 seems to have subtle improvements across the board. The image quality is definitely the best out of the 3 different monitors I have tried (its not amazing, but it is noticeably better.) The battery life seems good (I do have it plugged in at night though) I really like the option of choosing your lens. The standard lens works good and lets me see the whole crib, but I switched to the zoom lens so we can keep a close eye on our young guy. I will switch back to standard when he starts roaming around the entire crib. Other nice features are the micro USB, makes charging much simpler since we have several around the house. I also like the amount of sound levels and brightness levels, it makes it easy to fine tune to the correct level. It has several more of each than my old Astra. Overall, I think its a solid little unit that has performed well in the first few weeks. My plan right now is to get another camera for our second room and the set the monitor to scan mode.
True To Reviews - Great Monitor With A Few Quirks
August 26, 2017
After much deliberation on a camera, I have settled with this one based on reviews and based on the fact that it is a "best seller" on Amazon. The monitor I had prior was a cheapo. But the features it had were great. And being cheap, I was pleasantly surprised with the picture quality and real time movement...zero lagging. I could see ALL of the crib in the frame. I liked that all the buttons were available around the screen. Volume, menu, and some other buttons. Temperature was also displayed (in Celsius, because I couldn't figure out how to change it). Anyways...the features I was looking for were picture/sound quality, ability to pan the camera optically (digital zoom/pan SUCKS), and it's ability to stay paired with the camera despite all our devices using wifi in our 2-story house. The old one would constantly yell at me randomly. It was pretty annoying. I also think movement on the monitor shouldn't be lagging or slow.So I've been using this monitor for a little over a week now. Set up was easy, but angling the camera was tough and I still can't see the whole crib. I suppose we will end up mounting it. Or maybe the wide angle lens will help with this issue. We shall see. I keep forgetting to try it.Sound is good. I have white noise (crickets/frogs) playing pretty loud and its barely distinguishable through the monitor. I can turn display off and only have sound on with an easy push of the power button (it puts display to sleep, basically). But I do wish that it would activate the display to turn on like my cheap one does. Also the sounds of my baby aren't tingy and treble-y like my old one. Much nicer on the ear.Picture is just alright. I saw reviews saying it's great. And it makes me wonder what they had before to make them think this is so great. My cheap one had a little better picture. I think I even saw one review say they can see their baby breathing...LIAR! The biggest issue with picture is that it lags in real time while baby is moving around. It's lags by about a 1.5seconds. I tested it out by standing in the doorway and comparing her movements with movements on the screen. I don't guess it's that big of an issue for some but it is so freaking aggravating to me. I can even see choppiness in the movements. It's honestly got me contemplating sending back to try another brand.Controls are easy to access. Looks cheap as you have to press the menu button to cycle through all the options like volume and zoom. My old on had zoom and volume as buttons so I didn't have as many steps to get what I needed.I give it a 4 because if I hadn't used a video monitor prior to this, I think this would be a great one.But that laggy real time picture...it's really bugging me.
... Motorola video camera broke after 3 years (and we hated the new models) we upgraded to the Infant Optics ...
June 30, 2017
When our Motorola video camera broke after 3 years (and we hated the new models) we upgraded to the Infant Optics DXR-8, with an additional camera.Pros:Buttons/menus are easy to navigateDaytime picture quality is excellentLove the pan/tilt featureSturdy kickstand so it doesn't fall overGreat battery lifeCons:Nighttime video quality is worse than our old MotorolaAfter 2 months of use, our buttons stop working occasionally. We have to power off/power on and occasionally remove the whole battery to resolve the issue.I find the noise indicator buttons hard to see in daylightOverall, it's the best monitor I've found on the market right now and it's "good enough" to meet our needs for the next few years.
Great Range. Easy to use. Some wifi interference. Good picture and control.
June 13, 2017
Update: After a month of usage, I noticed the monitor does have interfere with my WIFI connection if it's very close to a wireless device. Doesn't seem to be a problem for 5 GHZ band but normal 2.4 GHZ will have some interference. If I keep the devices far apart (20 feet) seems to be fine. The Range is surprisingly really good. I've not had any issues with my wifi router blocking the signal. I also have a newer router so that might make a difference or they could be on different channels. Anyway, it works through 4 walls, brick exterior and at good 30 yards at least from the house without dropping. The image isn't HD but that's expected for considering it's a baby monitor. Would require more bandwidth and less range. Turns on quick and its to operate. Love the different camera lenses, just wish I didn't have to manually change them out. You can buy two cameras I guess and use the same monitor and just add different lenses to each. Just wish you could remote zoom instead of 2x digital zoom.Night vision is superb. Also the tempature reading is accurate and the audio quality is great. For a baby monitor, it just works as expected. Plug it up and go. In reality that's what matters the most. You don't need complex monitor system for a simple task.
Solid quality, good picture, but transmission power is not very strong.
August 11, 2016
The only reason it is 4 stars and not 5: It does tend to drop connection from the camera to the device so when I'm in my office I get a lost connection warning about every 30 minutes. I also wish the cord from camera to wall plug was longer.Otherwise, it works very well in light, or in dark, although it gives your child a sort of luminescent zombie appearance. The picture is clear, although not as crisp as in the ad photo, but clear enough that you can see their chests rising and falling. It also does a decent job of relaying the sound, and the two way talk function works well. The lenses that come with the baby monitor work well enough for what I would consider "standard" use--if you're using it as a nanny cam or need to focus across a large area, I'd upgrade, but otherwise it works well enough for me.
Very happy with it
June 28, 2016
Works as promisedVery good night visionPanning is awesomeGreat range and battery life (so far)Really happy with it.My only compliant is the mounting is pretty limited with only 1 screw. I'm not going to put a screw into my crib... or trust one screw to hold this over my son.... So I made an FDM holder that clips to the crib (pics attached)... hopefully the manufacturer could offer a universal version of this clip and/or add another screw hole.

Pretty dependable, but picture is not very clear
March 17, 2017
Works good, glad you can adjust alarm volumes or turn them off! The last monitor we had kept losing signal in the middle of the night sometime sand would beep loud over and over. This one will do the same only if we have our cell phone next to it.Very good battery life, especially with the video off, you can still quickly view video if needed. I get about an hour or so with video on.Keep cell phones away for better reception and no signal lossPicture is not very clear (I really feel monitors should have much better video images by now, even the "HD" monitors are not that clear, but slightly better than this one)Sometimes I have to power cycle the camera in the baby room because the picture will turn a purple color. I added a home automation plug so I can power cycle using my phone from another room when needed. And I do not have to worry about sneaking in and waking our baby.I highly recommend the Wide angle lens and mounting far back to view a full crib. You wont be able to view a full room without panning or tilting.
Better Range, But Problems with Battery and Charger
February 26, 2017
We live in a very large home and our babies are on the complete opposite end of the house. With our first baby, we bought the Samsung BrightVIEW which worked well. However, when we had our second child we couldn't get a signal in the furthest room. After reading a number of reviews, we decided to give the infant Optics a try. It works at the increased distance, about an extra 25 and 2 walls, but just barely. Some nights it goes in and out of coverage, but for the most part, it works well and we are happy with it. As I said the Samsung didn't work at all at the longer distance. We also like the scan feature that will cycle back and forth between rooms. Another cool feature is the ability to change lenses. There is no need to buy the extra lens, it includes both. The cons: After 6 month the monitor barely holds a charge. We are forced to keep it plugged in or after a short time unplugged it will start giving us the low battery warning beep. Additionally, the included usb plug does not fit snug in the charge and often falls out at night which means the low battery warning starts beeping and we get woken up for no reason.
Decent baby monitor
February 25, 2017
-7/5/17 update-I had to reduce my original 5 star review to 3 stars. All the reasons for my original 5 star review hold true except the unit's reception. I got a second camera for the monitor and the system works very well. What I can't understand is reception will suddenly drop off where it was full signal a few seconds before, then come back to full reception. I'm not sure if it's a problem with interference somewhere else in our house or some other issue. We will be moving to a new house later this month and I'll update the review if reception becomes steadier again. I have noticed that signal from the cameras is greatly reduced when there are any objects in close proximity to the camera.-original review-We ordered this baby monitor for our daughter, who is due in about 6 more weeks. I wanted to be able to play with the camera before she arrives so I could determine if we needed something different. I've tested the camera in all aspects as well as I can without actually having a baby to monitor yet, and I am extremely satisfied. The video quality is very good for the price, and was actually surprised at the usable range. Some of the reviews complained about poor signal when the unit was only a short distance away. We are able to view and control the camera from the complete opposite side of the house. I can even view the video from the garage, which is the furthest point from the nursery we can get, which is about 70 ft and no fewer than 6 walls in between. The audio quality for both listening and speaking through the camera is much better than I expected. Overall I would definitely recommend this video baby monitor to anyone in the market.
Only used for a few days.

I purchased the Infant Optics DXR-8 monitor along with two others, strictly for comparison. I was using the Summer Infant Sharp View HD monitor with the 5" screen which I did like. A few times it started to act up, so I decided we need to return it and get a new monitor. Instantly I looked up the DXR-8 because that was my other choice before I bought the Summer Infant.Once I received my DXR-8, I compared it to my beloved Sharp View HD. Instantly I was disappointed with the screen size of the DXR-8 solely for the fact that I'm used to a much larger screen. We put our baby in the crib to compare image quality. I wasn't sold on the image quality of the DXR, and that may be because I've been using a different monitor for the past 7 months. It wasn't a terrible image though. When holding both cameras straight, facing across the room - they were pretty comparable image wise.We recently brought the DXR-8 with us on a trip (we stayed in a hotel). We set the camera up across the room to see in the pack and play. I didn't like how far away it was, so we decided to use the Zoom Lens that came with the camera (love that it was included). It honestly did not seem to make a difference. Now I'm not sure if it's because we had the camera facing the side of the pack and play, but the night vision was terrible! I could barely make out the image of my child. Instantly that made my decision clear that I would not be keeping this monitor.I haven't gone far with our old monitor to really test the range, but I am able to go sit outside of our small house with it. The range on the DXR-8 does seem good! I like that it has an antenna. We were on the 4th floor of the hotel and went down on the 1st floor, to the lobby to watch TV (so we wouldn't disturb sleeping baby). The monitor worked all the way down there! We did find if you walked around/moved it then it would go out of range, but sitting in one spot it was fine.We really only used the monitor in the hotel and never at home, but the battery seemed good. I literally can only review the time(s) I've used it - which I kept it on all night, unplugged. The charger and charging port does seem like it could easily break over time with general use (as other reviews have said). It is the same charging port as a camera, and I've had the same issue with cameras in the past with not charging/holding a charge because the port/charger becomes loose over time.I like that it displays the temperature (as did my Sharp View), but wish more monitors would display the time. Overall, it is a good monitor. It isn't the monitor for me, but I am extremely specific with what I want. For anybody that wants a standard monitor that is a good price, the DXR-8 is an excellent choice.
Expected Better
May 25, 2016
Let me start by saying I like the large screen size and the picture quality is nice. I also really like that I can pan and zoom the camera to get a better view. That being said, there are some things about this monitor that either need improvement or are non existent in a monitor that I feel is quite expensive to not have.First, the reception on our unit is poor. We have a small house and our daughters room is directly across the hall and it still sometimes goes in and out and gives a warning that it is out of range. This gives me anxiety at night as I find myself waking up just to make sure it hasn't gone out and I am not able to hear if my daughter is crying.Second, the buttons on the parent unit are simple to use as long as you don't need to see them in the dark. Since most people use this for a child at night I think buttons that have light to them is definitely a feature this monitor should have. Even just small led lights on the words or to light up when you touch them like the tv remotes do.Third - I would like a night lite feature on the camera unit. That is not a huge issue and some people may not care, but it would be nice to have since my last $50 audio only monitor had it and this one replaced that.Lastly- I think the spot where the cord plugs into the parent unit should be located on the back. Where it is positioned on the side makes it hard to sit on a nightstand depending which side of the bed you sleep on.
Better than Motorola, but mediocre lens quality and missing VOX are problems
July 11, 2015
The monitor is generally ok if you don't mind the lack of VOX feature, and two lenses that magnify too much. The lack of VOX feature means you'll constantly hear a buzz from the camera as it keeps transmitting sound. Cameras or monitors with VOX will only let you hear the sound if it goes above a certain threshold, for instance the noise from the A/C system, or street noise would be considered too low to wake up the monitor; a crying baby on the other hand would set off the monitor. That way you don't get "false alarms" for every minor noise. I also ordered the Motorola MBP853CONNECT, which retails for substantially more, and is substantially worse - in every aspect. I would certainly take the DXR-8 anytime over the Motorola. Alas, neither really works for us. The lenses provide too much zoom, we would need to put the camera too far away from the bed to see the full crib - with both the regular and zoom lens. Infant Optics sells a wide angle lens, which may correct that issue, but then the missing VOX is just as important, so we decided to send the whole unit back. I also didn't think the picture quality was very good. I compare this to my Foscam IP cam, which is very sharp, day and night, has an optical zoom, so we'll probably go that route for the baby monitor. I'm also currently evaluating the Infant Optics DXR-5 at the lower end of the price spectrum.

Wouldn't buy it again...
July 5, 2017
The only good function on this monitor is the movable camera. The picture quality is horrible especially at night. Our previous monitor that was half the price was much better than this camera. Then the other really annoying thing is that the monitor is on ALL the time! It doesnt just come on when your baby moves or makes a noise, no its on all the time. That also means that the battery is dead within 1 day of use and you have to plug it in again. Also does not have a charging station/cradle just a micro usb plug to plug in to the monitor. The person who developed this was for sure somebody who does not have kids. Wish we could return this but we opened it a couple of weeks after receiving it since it was meant for when our son transitions from crib to toddler bed so we could have a whole view of his room. Really annoyed and disappointed with this.

After 3 days, I don't really understand why there are so many positive reviews.Reasons for my low rating:1. The picture is terrible. I bought this specifically based on its high reviews on "optical" qualities. You would be waaaay off if you think the picture will look like the photos. My camera is about 5-6 feet from my baby and even zoomed in you can't tell if the eyes are open or closed.2. There is a constant high "hum" coming from the speakers. I thought the unit was supposed to be "whisper quiet". If you are a light sleeper, you won't sleep with the noise.3. Poor/intermittent signal strength. I live in a 1300 sq. foot house and it won't make it from the nursery to the living room.4. I can't get it out of night mode.5. The camera adjustment isn't small enough; it makes big movements.6. The zoom is only 1 or 2, no in between.7. buttons are poorly configured. have to go into the menu to zoom in.I bought this monitor specifically because of its claims to image quality. I sacrificed some of the features I know it didn't have like VOX, internet capability. Don't buy for this reason. Some of the features I do like:- sound stays on when video asleep.- sound sensor led on the side- auto night mode - but doesn't work- temp sensor- comes with second mini usb cable for charging (but only 1 power adapter)
Loss of Signal. Loss of Signal. Loss of Signal.

I bought this unit and an add on camera because of the great reviews but have been somewhat disappointed. I've been using the system for 5 months.Pros:- The ability to pan up/down and side to side. An awesome feature for babies on the move.-It is clear enough picture that if the camera is close enough to where baby is laying and you concentrate, you can see breathing movement.-The ability to add another camera is a plus.-The thermostat feature appears to be pretty accurate, if that's something you're concerned about.Cons:-LOSS OF SIGNAL. I don't know if I have a defective unit or interference issues, but I never had this problem with my last Motorola dual camera monitor. Working on my laptop nearby, loss of signal beeping. Across the room washing dishes, loss of signal beeping. Middle of the night, no electronics in use, loss of signal beeping. I literally have to turn it off at night and only turn it on to look at baby own my own volition, because of that horrible beeping.-I may actually see color video for 5-10 minutes out of the day, if at all. I recognize that this varies based on the room and lighting, but there are two huge windows in our nursery...sure seems like a sensor issue to me.Overall, If I had it to do over again, I would have bought Motorola dual camera setup again over this one. I had charging issues with my last Motorolla set, but at least I could leave it on at night.
Ok camera but falls just short
July 22, 2016
We searched for a camera with night vision and did NOT have an online (internet) component. This looked like a great option, and works generally well, but still has room for improvement. The range on this product is good - we can walk outside and ~50 feet away and stay in range, and it has lights which light up when our child is crying so we can see it even if we need to turn down the volume. But the clarity of the picture is so-so and is fairly grainy, especially in night vision mode and the battery on the view screen only lasts a partial night so it needs to be plugged in most of the time. It seems like it really should have a bedside charging cradle since it is only portable for ~5-6 hours at a time. Also, when mounting the camera we found it difficult to find a good place to mount it because the screen doesn't have an invert display option for ceiling mounting the camera (thus everything would have been upside down). Also when there is a white object near by it washes out the entire picture in night vision mode (ex: If we have the door slightly blocking the view). Also, running a wire up the wall in a baby's room was something we wished we could have avoided (I.e. We wish the camera took a 9v battery as an alternate power source). This has a great range of rotation, so good that we wished we could limit the rotation (but we can't) to keep it from rotating beyond its intended view area. Instead we block its view with cleaver placement and visual obstacles. Overall, it met our needs and we're considering ordering an add on camera, but we do wish this product wouldn't have stopped just short of being a great camera.Update: We've been using this camera for about five months now and we can count on one hand how many times we've seen it in color (not night vision). When it was new if we panned around the room in the day time it would jump over to color. Now it no longer will leave night vision, even using the same trick ( his room is reasonably well lit, but not super bright). Also the picture is grainy - clear enough to see if he is moving, but we often find ourselves tiptoeing in to his room to get a better look at how he is laying since we can only tell rough outline from the camera. We've considered buying an add on camera for another room, but we hesitate sticking more money in to this system given its "eh, its ok" rating from our family.
Has it's cons and a bit overpriced. It is failing on me after 14 months.
April 27, 2016
UPDATE: 5/30/17---I dropped my review from 4 to 2 stars. I have had this for 14 months and within the past 3 months this thing has been bugging out.--It interferes with my wifi big time. I have tried changing different channels on my 2.4 Ghz band with no luck. When browsing with a cell phone or any device using a 2.4 Ghz wifi connection within 10ft of the monitor, the monitor cuts in and out.--I have to jiggle the usb charging cord for it to "catch" and charge. I tried multiple cords.--It displays "Out of range" all of a sudden at times when it is not moving and has been working fine for the past hour.--It displays low battery alert when the battery is fine. A shutdown/restart of the monitor fixes it.I emailed Infant Optics and they agreed to replace the monitor and battery but I have to eat the shipping cost, and be without a monitor until I get the replacement back. I asked if they can ship me out the unit first, they said no.----End of updateThis has very good quality in good light, good quality in low light, and terrible quality in no light. Need to leave a night light on in the room. The power brick outlet for the camera had an audible piercing ring. The manufacturer shipped me out a new one for free right away, after emailing them my invoice from Amazon. I tried to get them by phone but could not reach anyone. Had to email/voice mail, but they did get back to me within a couple hours. The new plug works perfectly.Things i like:Good battery life on audio only. Expect about 2 hours with screen on.Takes the android phone chargers. I can plug this in at various locations in my home.Remote panning, zooming.Light display grows as crying gets louder.Temp display!!Can leave the screen on 24/7 or set it to auto turn off (3 or 5 min).Wishlist:WISH IT HAD THE ABILITY TO FLIP THE SCREEN!!! Sometimes mounting limitations forces the view of the baby to be upside down. I can never get used to this on the monitor. You can flip the entire monitor around but then it doesn't prop up. Can believe there is no option for this!It really doesn't need to be this expensive. It's overpriced IMO. Wish it was cheaper. It seems like a $100 - $130 item to me.Wish that when the baby cries and the lights turn red the screen would also come on briefly. when i hear the baby crying it would save me from reaching over to hit the button to turn the screen on.Wish it also allowed me to tap into the monitor with my cell phone.Wish the zoom had more levels than just one (2x).Panning and tilting is sometimes frustrating because there is a delay, so it takes several back-and-forth tries to get it dialed in.

I liked it when it worked but it doesn't work well enough to keep, so i returned it. I have another monitor that didn't offer a second camera and since I need another one, I decided to try something new. I liked how clear the image was particularly when its zoomed in. What made me decide to return it was that it constantly said it was out of range. This didn't happen when I was moving around with the monitor, only when I was staying in one place. It beeps loudly to tell you that you are out of range, which makes sense, except that it never made sense when it happened. In the middle of the night, when nothing has changed or moved, it would beep and then it would go back to working. Some nights it never beeped, other nights it would do it four or five times, waking me and my husband up. I know from the reviews that I could have called infant optics to replace it but I didn't want the hassle, particularly since it was likely to happen again. There are enough reviews on here showing that there are consistent problems with these monitors. If its not the problem with them suddenly being out of range, its the power cord. While I appreciate that the company has good customer service, I think they need to focus on making a higher quality monitor so the customer service is needed far less often.

We purchased this product based on the great rating/ reviews
September 28, 2017
We purchased this product based on the great rating/ reviews. Unfortunately, in this day, it's hard to tell what reviews are real and fake. We used this product and shortly after, needed to contact customer service, whom was very helpful and sent a replacement right away. The issue we were having was with the battery. The battery after fully charged would die extremely fast to where you could not use the wireless feature. Our new replacement lasted a lot longer than the last, but here we are again. The monitor does not work without being hooked up to the charge. Another problem we have encountered is that the signal, no matter how close, sometimes goes out. Imagine a beeping sound in the middle of the night because the signal goes out when you are approximately 10-15 feet from the camera. Not sure what to make of this, when they've already replaced it once.
Do not get it! The monitor does not have a long range, and defeats the purpose!
May 24, 2017
This product defeats the idea of having a monitor, the monitor cannot be more that 4 feet away from the camera! before i purchased this one I used the Motorola baby monitor for 2 years, my kids broke them and i decided to get a replacement, after viewing all the reviews i decided to get this one although I didn't have big problems with the Motorola. I live in a 2 floor house, and when the kids are napping in their rooms (on the first floor) i cannot have the monitor on the ground floor as there is no coverage/range. Also at night while my 2 year old sleeps in his room down the hall the monitor has no coverage/range in my bedroom, i can only connect to my 1 year old's room which is literally next door to me.If you have a medium sized home or want to carry the monitor to more that 4 meters away from the camera don't get it, get the Motorola! The infant optics is more expensive and not as good as the Motorola!
Wanted to like this monitor...

We wanted to like this monitor - It has great picture quality when it was working but it showed out of range constantly. It worked well when turned on and baby was not in the crib. As soon as we put her down for a nap and it had to detect movement, the monitor beeped and showed out of range. Our house is not very big so we do not know why it kept doing this. The monitor would go from working for 5 minutes to showing out of range without anyone moving. Sadly we will be returning this video monitor.
Really don't know why this is the top seller?

I am returning this. I previously had a cheap summer monitor and the picture quality is the same as this much more expensive brand. The camera will not move down unless you do so manually, I assume it is defective though and not a common problem. The reason I purchased this monitor was because you could silence the alert for out of range and low battery, something you could not do with the cheaper summer monitor. However I have to return this anyways due to it being defective and since I wasn't impressed with the quality I will replace it with a dual summer monitor for the same price. Really don't know why this is the top seller?
out of range all the time
May 24, 2016
This video monitor is great...until it goes out of range, which it will do ALL the time. I'm sitting 15 feet away from each of my two children's bedrooms right now and one monitor is within range, and the other is out. All night long it goes in and out of range. If I turn the alarm off I won't know it's out of range, and if I leave it on it will wake us up. We do not have a cell phone near us...my husbands computer is on the other side of the room, could that be interfering? As I type this now the other monitor is now beeping in and out of range. I worry about leaving the kids with a babysitter and them not being aware that it is out of range and ignoring the kids. Who doesn't sit with the monitor near to some sort of wireless device, this is ridiculous. I now have two useless monitors.

The range isn't good, I have trouble getting an image once the units are separated by over 20 meters (65 feet) in my apartment. Pretty pathetic really.Update:I've had this for a few weeks now and my conclusion is that the range is absolutely terrible. I'm 1 room away from the baby's room and I get a constant "out of range" message on the screen. For this reason I'm changing my review to a 1 star - rubbish!
