Five Star Reviews: | 38% Great Little System! December 12, 2016 This is the third system I have purchased; one as a gift and two for myself. I really think this is a great buy, very good sound for the price, and even the base and surround sound is decent. Thank you, Sony and Amazon.com. It works pretty good. I cannot use it fully to its ... August 1, 2016 I've had this surround sound for about 9 months now. It works pretty good. I cannot use it fully to its capabilities because I have to use the headphone jack to connect it to my tv. It could be louder though. But the quality is good and I would recommend it. The set up was understandable and when I needed help, customer service was very helpful. Reluctance Rewarded September 27, 2013 After reading so many reviews all over the map on this system, I decided to go for it...the price for the features offered was too tempting. Installation and set up were quite straight forward and easy to follow. The fact that I'm not of the "digital generation" might offer some comfort to others technologically challenged. Still haven't figured out all of the functions on the remote, but I've learned enough to put it to use. The sound was much better than I expected. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this system. pretty nice February 12, 2013 This was a change for us we originally had a blue ray , but we didnt use. it so a dvd downgrade was fine. The nice thing is the built in fm tuner so we can listen to the radio quality is nice | 81% Good Stuff for All But The Most Skewed Audiophile... October 14, 2017 Great speaker wire. There are those who must have cables suitably sized, say, able to supply enough current to start a Caterpillar 580-B, but for my needs, 16-gauge works just fine, thank you. Don't need that silly, gold-plated frivolousness, as I don't have 'golden-ears'. I never painted my CD's with a green Marks-a-Lot (yes, people actually did that), put bricks on my SAE amplifier (you know, to dampen physical resonance...REALLY?) or find the need to spend stratospheric levels of cash for some cartridge hand-wound by some Tibetan monk. But hey, that sort of money buys a lot of prayer-wheels...I've even used old 'zip-cord' as a stand in for the 'properly-labelled' stuff, but I like not to have to solder stray runs of speaker wire together to make a longer run. Besides, for the money, this value cannot be beat (beaten, for all you 'grammar-nazi's out there). I'm happy: they supply oodles of current from my modestly powered Onkyo receiver (old-school, stereo, even, complete with phono inputs) and my 30+year old speakers. I'll hazard a guess you'll be happy with this item. Fear not, and put your starting-cables away... Great basic speaker wire! August 14, 2017 Very good basic speaker wire. Why pay the high price for other wire when this will do everything you need it to do? The shielding is suitable and protects well against interference. The wire is labeled well which provides an easy method for identifying the positive and negative wires. Overall, I think this is a great buy any moderate-level sound system. Those who wish to have completely flawless sound applications may wish to purchase some heavier gauge wire with thicker insulation, but this works well for me! Very nice, very well constructed speaker wire May 12, 2017 While I'm sure there are audiophiles who'll quibble, I think this stuff is awesome. It's got enough (but not too much) insulation to make me feel comfortable pulling it through walls. I got this to run through the wall and outside to connect some speakers to the Sony 100w amp we use with our AppleTV so we can play music out on the porch. The wire's nice and thick, easy to work with, and the spool's not ridiculously large. Other than that, the price is right. Great speaker wire for the price. November 29, 2016 It's amazing what people are saying! This is your normal run of the mill speaker wire! It works great. You wouldn't use it for a super crazy high output amp, you would buy a thicker gauge. For your home stereo and about 99% of the other use cases, this wire is just fine. There is a previous review that shows the mathematics behind it. Quality product! August 18, 2016 Easy to use. There is a white stripe on one side that is clearly visible to verify polarity. The insulation is thick enough to stand up to people walking on it if it's under a carpet but easy to strip. Unlike some other wire I've used, I didn't have to squeeze the heck out of the pliers and end up cutting right through the wire when trying to strip off insulation. My speakers and amplifiers all have quick-connect fittings, and it is very easy to get the wire into the little hole in the clamp. This wire is about 4 times as thick as the wire my components came with, and it really sounds fantastic!! I would definitely recommend this gauge wire for audio. Works Very Well for Home Use August 8, 2016 I'm a home audio enthusiast, not a recording studio engineer. I re-wired outdoor speakers (wire running through conduit) and used this product with very good results. My longest run is about 25'. Yes, it is copper clad aluminum, but I hesitate to spend top dollar for the more pure copper product. I know that the sound travels on the outside surface of the conductors, and this is why speaker wire is stranded and not solid core. The Amazon Basics 16-ga speaker wire is copper cladding on aluminum, which suits my purpose very well. It has a white tracer in one conductor, speeding up connections and improving accuracy. The insulation is easily removed with wire strippers. It pulls through flexible conduit using a fishing tape without undue headache. | 53% There are no reviews yet | 53% There are no reviews yet | 25% There are no reviews yet |
Four Star Reviews: | 20% Great system. November 28, 2016 Very clean sound. The instructions for set up were too wordy and complicated but after a glass of wine, I was able to suffer through it. Once set up, I was able to enjoy its clean quality sound. Worth the price too. Like the product however can not figure out how to ... July 16, 2016 Like the product however can not figure out how to get the tv sound thru surround sound when watching regular tv...other then that good item for the money. Nice little system, and customer aervice February 29, 2016 The sound is nice and vibrant. I'm not at full capacity as I haven't been able to use all the speakers just yet. The wire for the back speakers aren't very long so I will have to add wire eventually. I wish they over did the length. I'm sure it will just add to the ambiance once I'm all set up. Another side note is that the customer service was helpful and quick troubleshooting. I couldn't figure out why the sound didn't work at first and they patiently walked through the check points to resolve it. 4 stars 4 now----will update if needed October 11, 2014 We bought this to send to my wife's family in the Philippines. I recently upgraded our home theater projector to 1080p, so we will send the old 720p projector which still works fine. We chose this Sony 5.1 system to go along with it. I was surprised that ours didn't come in it's original box, but it did look brand new, just repackaged in Styrofoam. There was just a small scratch to the top of the main unit, from whoever packaged it. Not a big deal. I wanted to make sure it all worked and sounded decent, so I tried it out. My 1st impressions were bad, but after having it on for an hour or 2, it started sounding much better. This wasn't a big surprise, since most or all speakers, including headphones and earphones, need a burn in period to sound their best, so I played the radio and some CDs for 2 days. Well, it's not exactly hi-fi, pretty far from it, but I wasn't expecting it for the price. It's not 300 Watts, but I wasn't expecting that either. It is an improvement to most television speakers, especially since they can be spread out for surround sound, which really enhances movie watching. The subwoofer my look like it has a 6 or 8" driver, but it is actually 3 or 4". It gives a decent boom to the sound. The volume is fine for a small room or bedroom, and ok for a medium size room. I only used the HDMI out, and it worked fine into the projector. I certainly would not trade it for my current setup of Yamaha, Kef, Mirage, etc., but we're sure our nieces will love their new projector and surround sound system. They are sure to have many visitors on movie night, so we also sent a case of theater-style popcorn. Perfect January 28, 2014 Not sure what to expect on a refurbished electronic, I was very hesitant to purchase. It didn't arrive in a pretty, new box, but I wasn't buying the packaging. The product itself worked perfectly--just like new. The only thing I would do differenlty next time is purchase a wireless system (if such a thing exists). Wires are everywhere. But I knew that when we bought it, so don't be mistaken--the product itself was great. | 13% Needs polarity indication, but works OK June 19, 2017 This cable works fine but I have one criticism - and so only four stars. There is no marking on the cable to show which wire is which and that makes it harder to determine speaker polarity. That is, you want the wire connected to red on the amplifier to connect to red on the speaker, and black [or white] to black [or white]. Electric wire like this has ribbing along one side (the neutral one) so you can make sure your lamp is wired up safely. But with this speaker wire you have to follow it all-the-way-along-the-length-of-the-cable.I guess that's why it's "AmazonBasics". Add some ribbing and this would be much easier to work with. But once installed it works fine. Excellent choice if you don't need 100% copper June 1, 2017 This is not real copper, but it does not claim to be. With that out of the way, this is actually pretty decent cable. It's very flexible and easy to work with. If you are fine with the limitations of copper-clad aluminum (because you're not running that long of a stretch, or you are over-sizing conductors to start with, or you just don't want to pay for 100% copper) then this is actually pretty nice to work with. The insulation is soft and flexible and the cord has a very easy to see black line for the negative conductor. If this were pure OFC copper, it would probably be one of my favorite brands. Simple basic speaker wire, no hassle packaging July 2, 2016 I purchased this cable to help wire up my surround sound system in my basement. The cable works great and was cheaper than alternatives on Amazon, or cables coming from my previous regular seller Monoprice. I would certainly purchase the cable again as it works great and was easy to run. I am not audiophile but I didnt appear to lose any sound quality with this affordable cable versus more expensive options out there. Finally the packaging is simple and easy to open. Its the simple things sometimes that take a product from good to great. Being able to get to the product without needing a blow torch is in my mind a big plus! Good speaker wire at a very good price May 30, 2016 Good speaker wire at a very good price. Sound quality and packaging is good. The price is super reasonable and I'd buy it again if I find myself needing speaker wire again. The reason I give it 4 Stars is because the markings to identify which wire is which is unusually VERY light. I was daisy chaining speakers together and needed to ensure that the correct wires were going to positive and negative. Both strands of wires are exactly the same but there is a faint white line down one of them. The white line is almost transparent and I need a flashlight to see it. Even with the light it was almost indiscernible. They should definitely look into marking one of the wires more prominently. It works. December 21, 2015 It's speaker wire. How can one write a glowing review on speaker wire? I will give it a try. This came will packaged and looked nice. The package designers did a superb job in designing the package. The wire is very smooth with a clearly marked negative wire. The insulation is nice and think and insulates very well. When solder is applied it takes it well and it appears the copper wire used in this is very high quality copper. The sound transmission is excellent unlike other copper wire that has noticeably reduced clarity in the high range. This wire is also much better than those spools of wire that are only 50 feet because this has 100 feet. That makes it twice as good as the 50 foot wire and 4 times better than the 25 foot spools. If you need more than this, you are not even reading this. November 16, 2015 This is exactly what it is supposed to be-- low cost, consumer grade speaker wire.We use this to connect our 15-year-old consumer-grade amplifier to our old consumer-grade speakers, to play music and movie sound-tracks streamed over the internet at whatever bit-rate our connection happens to support at the moment. The speakers are placed on whatever flat surface we can find, in whatever arrangement gives us some semblance of stereo and "surround", in a living room where "acoustics" take a back seat to "not having things fall on our heads."The impedance-matching to the speakers, the cable's power loss, the frequency response, are all 2nd-order optimizations where we are just looking for the first approximation. We just want durable cable that will not break easily if pulled or set-upon, that will not short the amplifier with ordinary use, and whose performance is no worse than the other aspects of our setup. We understand the difference between copper and copper-clad aluminum, and the impact of wire gague on signal fidelity. We have our own multi-meters, oscilliscopes and RMS power meters, and we just don't care.If you're an audiophile, odds are you are not even sniffing the Amazon Basics, much less reading this review. You are not researching whether this cable will let you hear the timpanist's heartbeat during the 2nd movement of Beethoven's 9th, even though audiophiles claim it can be done. You are too busy putting anti-reflective coating the edges of your CDs and putting your amplifiers on tiny little conical feet. You buy artisan crafted, hand-pulled pure copper cable extracted from sustainable mines by free-range miners, encased in fair-trade gold-foil RF shielding and wrapped with organic cotton-fiber sheath dyed in native traditional patterns. This cable is not excellent, but it is all the cable we need. | 21% There are no reviews yet | 21% There are no reviews yet | 14% There are no reviews yet |
Three Star Reviews: | 15% It is fine. February 13, 2017 Our own fault, didn't pay close enough attention. This is a DVD system. Blue ray has been out so long, didn't pay attention to the DVD part. Hubby wanted to return. Instead we use one of our blue rays with it. It is fine. Great low budget system December 28, 2016 Great low budget system. My only negative was that the speaker wires are permanently attached to the back of the speakers. I would have liked to have speakers that I could have used my own custom length speaker wire for. I did not see this in the product description. Good price, average machine. Just fine. November 9, 2016 Ok system...average. Works fine. No bells. No whistles. DVD player is just that...not Blu-ray. No optical audio port. Wires short... bought & spliced enough to accommodate 14 x 23 ft. room. Sound is fine, not Dolby HD crisp_sounding separation. Motel 6 of sound systems. What do you expect for the price? Serves our purpose just fine. Three Stars January 30, 2016 Only has one input/output option. Otherwise it's a decent unit for the price. Not the loudest. Fast delivery. Good item, but at the time September 11, 2015 Good item, but at the time, i received, DVD player was broken. It has good sound, but i would recommend spend some more money to buy the best surround system. Sound is not upto the exprectation | 3% ... a string of fairy lights which my grand daughter liked so I kept them and picked up the 16 ... September 17, 2017 its really difficult to rate this product because I never received it in it's stead I received a string of fairy lights which my grand daughter liked so I kept them and picked up the 16 gauge wire a my place of employment the only fail Amazon has had in there relationship with me Not happy with that May 25, 2017 Amazon should of ran a dark black or red line (single) instead of white to determine the positive or negative wire tubing. The white line is very faint, so you don't see it well. Not happy with that. But, good basic wire over all. Note well - Not Oxygen free I'll buy again October 26, 2016 I would give this product if there consistency amount roles.I bought 3 roles and 2 of them marked the positive wire with a white stripe, the 3rd spool marked the negative wire with a black stripe. None of the rolls marked both.Pros:Looks/feels/behaves just like my RCA branded speaker wireCons:As above, lacks consistent markings for +/-Overall:I'll buy again Cheap enough, even if it is only CCA. June 8, 2016 Just a heads-up, this is only CCA wire, not OFC. It's not bad, specially for the price. It's better than included cables and decent enough replacement for entry-level to mid-range audio systems or home theaters. Just be informed. If you can afford $50 for the cables, there are better solutions available. Sound is decent. Stripping the insulation off the wire ... June 3, 2016 Sound is decent. Stripping the insulation off the wire seems to take more effort than I remember with other brands. Tough to distinguish between the two wires, they just use a faint white line on one wire that can be tough to see, especially in the dark behind an entertainment center as you attempt to hook up the speakers. Fine CCA Cable March 18, 2014 This is basic CCA audio cable. It also appears to be the advertised gauge. Unless you have a high end audio system I see no need in splurging on OFC cabling. I usually tin the ends of the cabling anyway so the connection points aren't a great concern. It would be recommendable to use 14 gauge wire, but I've only got a mid-range Onkyo receiver and basic speakers. When I upgrade my speaker package the cost of good 14 gauge OFC cable will be included in that purchase. | 11% There are no reviews yet | 11% There are no reviews yet | 11% There are no reviews yet |

Value product September 19, 2016 Low end but also low cost. Use where you just want basic sound quality. Not worth the money July 12, 2016 Not thrilled at all. Had to buy a digital to analog converter to even use- product description should have indicated this only has input and must be analog. Nothing comes in analog anymore NOT Leber Approved April 9, 2015 alright i am very disappointed in the product. I payed like 100 some odd dollars for it, and i get it in the mail, and it looked so nice right out of the box. So I was able to get it hooked up, and it was sad. The sub doesn't even pound. I have to have the volume all the way up to even here the sub-woofer and on top of it it's turned up all the way, and it isn't loud at all. not even a little. The whole reason i got this was to be blown away and to piss my neighbors off down stairs but now i cant do that. This Product IS NOT Leber Recommended The price is appealing the product is not February 13, 2014 I'm not hard of hearing but any surround sound setting other than multi finds me leaning toward a speaker to hear it. Saw some comments about not for a "large room". If you room is 6x6 this might work. Just doesn't pack any volume. I guess you get what you pay for. I find myself wishing I had spent an extra $50 to get something decent. | 1% Came in too late so July 25, 2017 Well.....the product should be good but it came in too late... so I had to buy another one from best buy to hook the new karaoke system and speakers I bought for a party I had. Good wire, needs line. April 19, 2017 Good wire, but it needs a line on one side to make install easier. Good except for the missing wire. April 13, 2017 Your basic speaker wire. All is well except for the 10 or so inches in the middle of the spool which was completely missing copper conductors on the black side. It's a good thing I didn't install it permanently. Mild frustration that didn't require me to tear the wall apart. Two Stars November 19, 2016 This is not pure copper and rather copper cladded aluminum. Copper wires can be had for a similar price. Other than that it's very good quality. However June 12, 2016 No markings on the sheathing makes me give this wire a low rating. It should have some kind of stripe or something so you can keep the polarity correct. You need additional equipment in order to use this wire correctly. Other than that it's very good quality. However, the shortcomings would prevent me from either recommending or re-purchasing this wire. If it had the obviously needed markings I would have given it 5 stars. Two Stars April 12, 2016 Had an issue with the casing on the wire in some areas, needing to re-run lines. | 5% There are no reviews yet | 5% There are no reviews yet | 11% There are no reviews yet |
One Star Reviews: | 18% GREAT. In buying this DAVTZ140 December 14, 2016 I personally own a Sony DVD Home Theater System DAV-DZ170,bought as a Warehouse Deal,GREAT.In buying this DAVTZ140,as a gift for someone else,it arrived with no remote,NO REMOTE!Details never mentioned more than cosmetic scratches which are standard for a used item, but NO REMOTE?That is like sending an item which is broken. You can not do anything without a remote,at all, except watch the DVD player accept your DVD in the tray and thats all folks! So the moral of this story is to ask and check to be sure ALL accessories are included.Yes,I sent the item back and ordered another of the same make and model because Sony DOES make premium electronics.I just got delt a lemon from the warehouse.SHAME,SHAME,SHAME....(to be continued) to make it worst it does not have an audio in slot February 3, 2016 The usb does not work. to make it worst it does not have an audio in slot. plays well though good for a small room Cheap DVDs player only October 11, 2015 Not a home theatre but cheap DVD player. Need return instructions underpowered and no optical input, should be marketed as a computer speaker system not a home theater system August 12, 2015 This product is sold as a "Home Theater System" but it does not have the output power for a home theater system. It only has analog audio L and R input jacks, no optical input. Optical input has been around for a long time. In fact I have a bookshelf system that is a 400W system that is over 15 yrs old and has optical input and it blows this "Home Theater System" out of the water for loudness. Big disappointment! I would NOT recommend anyone buy this unless they are going to use it for their computer like so many reviews say they did. I didn't want a computer speaker system. Well the old saying applies here, you get what ... April 18, 2015 Well the old saying applies here, you get what you pay for! A cheap sound system, I understand why Sony discontinued the product | 2% Paid for 100 feet of speaker wire, only got 70. September 17, 2017 Had to do two pulls of wire, one of 35 feet and one of 45 feet. Thought the reel was a little light but the label said it was 100 feet. Ended up with one successful pull of 35 feet and another of about 35 feet leaving me having to run out to get more (expensive) wire from Best Buy. Never buying this again. Not suits my preferance! January 8, 2017 I thought it has an identifier for positive and negative! I guess i have to make means of what i paid for. I really don't understand why they manufacture speaker wires that is not convenient to install. Not real copper wire. November 7, 2016 Copper clad aluminum wire. It should say so in the description for those of us looking for pure copper wire. but this is CCA and its going in the garbage. Not going to cut it for the 50ft ...
