Christmas present
October 17, 2015
We love the surround sound.purchased last yr for Christmas, works great,no problems so far.
Absolutely tremendous system
February 23, 2015
Im going to try to write the best review possible.First of all it has 3 HDMI inputs and 1 HDMI output as specified in the description. It also has two standard Red & white AV inputs on the back, and an additional one called the "game" input in the front it also has a standard 3.5 millimeter line in & it also has a headphone jack on the front. In my opinion it does meet the clarity and volume of a thousand watt sound system. In addition it also features various volume controls. you can control the max volume, the sub volume, and in the settings you can make certain speakers louder than others based off of your preference. It also has a few preset equalizer settings, and 3 dolby digital settings. The bang for your buck is tremendous and I highly recommend it.YES IT WORKS WITH AN XBOX ONE/PS4 :)
5 Stars for Value/Sound/HDMI/Audio Switching, but not perfection for audiophiles/electronic snobs.
December 9, 2013
I'm giving this a 5 star because of the value, but that doesn't mean it's perfect. If you are a perfectionist, you won't like it. If you are an audiophile, you wont like it. I was scared at the prospect that something at a great price point could sound good, but it does and it also has the HDMI switching I needed. I am a father of 2, and this unit is installed in our bonus room where kids can watch cartoons, or when they are asleep, I can fire up xbox or ps3 with Call of Duty, etc. I don't expect this unit to last forever (nothing is perfect), but worth the risk. Here is a list of the pro's/cons:Pros:-inexpensive, inexpensive, inexpensive!!-surround is really good-switches hdmi from 3 sources, including the audio. (no need for optical or digicoax)-sounds really good for a tiny system-easily mounted surround speakers (nail/screw hanging)-basic speaker wire inserts at rear, cut and plug in as needed (not proprietary plugs)-once you get it dialed, all you do is switch inputs... no further fussing needed.-Take your time installing, and things will be all good.-cheapish/basic electronic appearance, but speakers have grille cloth, which takes it up a notch.Cons: (not too many for the price point)-remote is basic, but you have to press assertively to make buttons work-some functions are not intuitive, but manageable-bass may be hard to dial in, just takes time.-slight midrange gap, but forgivable.
Very good system. Recommended

Very good system. Worth every penny, and it's a formidable system and it's 300 dollars cheaper than just about every other sound system that has only 2-3 speakers. I did have a problem with the fiber optics slot because it wouldn't fit, but after bending the little metal prong on the inside of the optics area and then it fit, and then it was perfect. But then even better is that I saw it has an HDMI slot that goes out to TV also so not only does the receiver work for audio but it should in theory work for sending a signal to my HDTV also from my Xbox 360 since my TV doesn't have any HDMI or Optical outputs.
Good System for Price
August 29, 2013
I took a chance with this unit. 150$ isnt exactly high end, but RCA has been my brand of choice for years, and I needed something cheap that would get the job done. The system ended up being easy to setup (rabbit prongs for the speakers and color-coded wires and ports). Everything works great. Some problems with HDMI cutting out but swapped the cables and it worked fine. Great sound quality. I never turn it above 25 because its plenty loud. You need to measure the distance between the speakers and listening position to get the best effect. It has a "distance" button that allows you to program that. Honestly, for this setup, I'd pay up to 100$ more for it. Only thing: the sub is powerful, but not clear. I'd get a separate sub but the one that came with is more than good enough.
TV CORN?
August 14, 2013
Why does Amazon act like this product has to be used as an HDMI switch with no way to get digital audio from the TV to the receiver?Well, I'm happy to report that it has both coax and optical digital audio inputs. My TV has coax digital audio out. I ordered a special cable which hasn't arrived yet, but went ahead and just used an ordinary rca style audio cable. It worked! Dolby Digital 5.1 from my TV's tuner or from anything plugged into my TV.So, you don't have to use this as an HDMI switch. No need to run HDMI or analogue cables to or from the receiver at all. I run HDMI into my TV from my computer, and digital audio out from the TV to this receiver. This way, I get digital sound both from the TV's built in tuner, and from appropriate sources from my computer. My TV has two more HDMI inputs, so I won't have any trouble hooking up future devices to my TV. The only reason to use the HDMI switching and analogue inputs on the receiver would be if you simply don't have enough HDMI inputs or digital out on your TV.When I first plugged in the coax digital audio and chose TV from the receiver's sources, it was set to TV :ANALOGUE. I ended up checking the manual to learn that I need to press the setup button on the remote and then use left-right to navigate to what I'm trying to change and up-down to make the change. After switching the audio from analogue to coax, when I select TV, the face of the receiver says TV :CORN, or is it TV iCORx, or maybe TV :CORK? Well, anyway, I know it's supposed to say TV :COAX.Only issue with the SPDIF coax digital audio from my TV is that when first starting an audio source or even after just pausing it, there's a second or two of silence forcing me to jump back a second or two (if possible) to hear everything. I don't know if the delay is caused by my TV encoding the audio or the receiver decoding it, or both. Not a big deal for me though considering the low price of both my TV and this home theater system. In fact, I've never been happier with a purchase before. What matters most is the sound and in my small room (only 10 feet from wall hanging TV/speakers to rear wall) using the 5.1 digital audio, it sounds fantastic with good well balanced range without any humming or hissing. The wires attached to each speaker were much longer than I needed. There are 4 levels of subwoofer volume available and I'm happiest with the 2nd lowest setting which provides solid and balanced base that doesn't distract from the overall sound. If it was a 12" subwoofer producing sound that's felt as much as heard, then I'd go for a higher setting, but you can't expect a 12" subwoofer at this price. I love Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound. Sitting in my chair just 5 feet from both front and rear speakers, I don't notice the rear speakers much, but they definitely add to the sound. Laying in my bed with my head against the same wall the rear speakers are on, I get sound like high quality headphones but with more localized front sound. Although a completely different experience, the sound I get from both listening positions is very good and well balanced. The remote has everything you could imagine on it, which is not a good thing. After initial setup however, all I use are the bottom left source buttons to switch between radio and TV and the volume and memory radio channel buttons that are nicely placed and a good intuitive shape and size. You need good eyesight to find the buttons in the first place, but once you've found them, they're easy to use. The remote also requires more precise aim than my TV remote, but it works.I also don't know why there's no mention of the AM/FM tuner in this receiver. I didn't know I wanted a radio tuner, but now that I've got it, I listen to radio every morning instead of turning on the TV and computer. I had to read the manual to learn that you can make it setup memory radio channels - up to 30 FM and 30 AM channels. It only found 23 FM channels for me here in Kansas City, but that's 23 more than I used to listen to. There's many surround sound settings that work with the radio, but what sounds best to me is the DOLBY PL II :MUSIC which takes full advantage of 5.1 sound and I've found no reason to mess with it any further. If you want to take advantage of the digital audio output of your TV without spending more on the sound system than you did on your TV, this is the only way to go. I've never been so enthusiastic about recommending a product before.

Nice surround sound

This was a gift for someone, but from what I heard, the bass was deep and strong, the blu ray had a great picture. the surrounds worked well. Nice system.
Just what I expected
March 15, 2016
My sis and I bought one of these for her ex-husband for his birthday, and it was great. So I bought one for myself, too. Easy to install, labeling is fantastic, wiring is already done so you just string your speakers to where you want them without a lot of trouble and plug it in. The sound quality is good, the Blu-Ray playback is good. It works exactly like you would want it to work. If i were to be a nick-picker I would say the speaker wire could have been a bit longer, but it works for me.

January 13, 2016
I got this system and hooked it up as the directions called for. Now I'm not a tech genius and almost shelled out the money for someone from the Best Buy Geek Squad to come out and help me with the sound. The sound worked great when I played my movies, but couldn't hear anything when I switched it to normal tv. But over all I'm pleased with it, but compared to a 5 year old JVC surround system mixed with a Sony Blu-ray player and a Samsung TV. Now everything is Samsung and have no complaints.
This was definitely a great deal and great product
December 16, 2015
This was definitely a great deal and great product, my living room sounds like a movie theater. When I play my cd's it gives it a orchestra sound quality that is awesome, and the all around surround sound from regular tv/cable is the icing on the cake. The speakers are not wireless but for the price it competes with any blu ray home theater system on the market!
Satisfied consumer
November 16, 2015
I received my order and installed today, 11/16/15. I chose to order this set-up from the "Warehouse Deals" section. There were no problems with any of the contents. Everything was packaged and secured effectively. I am extremely satisfied with the ease of installation which, is just plug and play. The sound and looks of the Blu-Ray player/speakers are exceptional too.

Each speaker is labeled on the back indicating where it should be placed in your room. The 'Surround" speakers (2 of them) that go behind you in opposite corners have extra wire connected for the added distance. Each speaker and the sub-woofer have pre-installed, color coded plastic connectors on the ends that plug into the Blu-Ray player which is also color coded and labeled for ease of install.

You will need to buy an HDMI cable (there is only 1-connection on player) and a digital optical cable. The ONLY cord that comes in this package is the Power cord for the player (each speaker has it's pre-installed wire). A remote is also included but when I used my Dish Network satellite remote for the volume, it controlled the Blu-Ray player automatically. I assume this is because my TV is also a Samsung...

I would recommend this product to a friend and wouldn't hesitate to buy another one when needed for an additional room in the house.

Good value but calling this a 1000 watt system is missleading
October 22, 2016
Yes RCA is a make you can buy at a local dollar store , and some of us may expect a 1000 watt system to sound like a ghetto car stereo however bang for the buck this dose sound better then my Bose computer speakers .
For the price it's very nice + you can add on later.
June 9, 2016
Okay I've had this system for over a year & here are my thoughts on it. The remote is very, well lets just say it sucks. No range at all, why only 4 stars. Hooking it up is very simple, the wires are color coded so it can not be any easier. Once you get it hooked up & speakers placed where you want them adjust the volume on each speaker. Stand in front of the receiver press the Level button & you will see FL 00, CT 00, FR 00, etc.. (All of them are on 00) use the UP button to adjust. This will allow you to adjust each speaker to your liking. It has been a very solid system for movies & such. The factory speakers combined use no where near 1000 watts. So if you really want to wake the neighbors get you a 10" woofer in a box (I did it plan on testing 2) wire it in with the factory woofer. Press the Subwoofer button (3 times) on the remote to SWR-PWRF. Then turn it up. :) Hope my review has helped.
Noise fixed
March 22, 2015
I gave had this system for about a year now and just raised my 3 star rating to 4. Not bad for the price. To solve the fan noise others have commented on only takes about 15-20 mins depending if you are tech savvy. I removed the top (only 7 screws) to find the very small 12v dc fan setup poorly. I took a pair of small wire cutters and cut out the vent where the fan blows through(silver back next to where the wires connect). I now have the fan mounted on the back side( using the same screws the fan was originally mounted with)sucking the warm air out instead of blowing. The blowing is what causes a slight hum while the unit runs. I also cut all the wires and stripped them back to the copper wire for a better connection. So far I have no intermediate sound interference. All electronics have fans and make noise, this makes the unit much more tolerable for the price. Just a slight mod and all is good. Works great for Ps4 through the optical input. Be sure you are set to linear pcm not bitstream in audio settings!! This will prevent noise cut outs. Enjoy it's a savvy little system with a solid bass.
Great Home Theater for half the price of the others
May 29, 2014
I have had an Samsung (don't remember the model) that was functionally equivalent to this one with the exception of no smart apps built into this RCA. (Which I never used any way, being a a fan of WMC). After a year or so the Samsung started randomly switching inputs every few minutes. The Samsung was out of the 1 year warranty and a local Samsung repair shop estimated repair at approximately $ 150. I decided to try this RCA unit in spite of not being a RCA fan. To my surprise this unit worked perfectly without in system changes as it had 3 HDMI inputs (Samsung had 2). Amazingly after setup using the same speaker wires as the Samsung the sound was louder, baser, clearer and the Dolby 5.1 Surround separation was far superior to the much more expensive Samsung. System has been in place for a couple of weeks now and unless it turns out to not be realizable over time, it was a much better investment and have the Samsung repaired,. I can't believe I'm doing this for an RCA product, this this unit it great.
Replacement unit installed fine, first unit was DOA
February 9, 2014
I received my first system and no matter what input I selected, all I was able to hear through the system was popping. I know it was not my sources or cables, because the sound coming out of the TV was flawless when passed through the system.Support from RCA was only via email and takes days for a response. I called Amazon support and ended up returning this for an exchange. The replacement unit worked perfectly out of the box with no audio issues. Installation was a breeze and it handled all my inputs perfectly.I only have one issue with this unit - the cables to the speakers are too short - not the rear/surround speakers, though, those were fine and had plenty of length to get around the room - the cables for the front and subwoofer speakers were too short and I had to solder extra lengths of cables to these three speaker wires.
Decent system for the price
December 28, 2013
This product includes a surround sound system and an HDMI receiver in this price range. No bad at all. The sound quality is OK, but this is a budget system so don't expect wonders. I bought this for my teenage cousin's room which is a fairly small room and she didn't really need a surround sound but insisted on it. I got this because the price was in the affordable range and it also solved the problem of wiring multiple sources to the TV (since it has an HDMI switch/ receiver built in). The wires are 24 gauge wires and the length for two surround speakers (also incorrectly known as rear speakers) is about 25 feet, while the length for the center, right, left speakers and the sub-woofer is about 9 feet. The wires are color coded and soldered on the speakers.I ran short on four of the six wires so I bought Rca 50 feet 24-Gauge Speaker Wire and extended the wires by soldering them together. It works fine after the final setup. You can extend the wires as long as there is a strong connection between them, soldering is not necessary (twisting them together and taping over them will work as well). This unit also comes with built in radio receiver (which requires supplied antenna) and has red and white RCA jacks along with a mini stereo jack (3.5 mm, same one used it most smart phones and mp3 players) in the front. I have no use for the RCA or the radio but I have connected the mini stereo to EDUP EP-B3502 Wireless Car Bluetooth Music Receiver Stereo Output A2DP For Phone Ipod 3.5mm for wireless music streaming. The rear connectors are (3X) HDMI in, (1X) HDMI out, (2X) audio RCA in (red and white), (1X) digital coax in (orange), (1X) digital optical in. and the connectors for the AM/FM antenna. The power cord is attached to the box and is about 6 foot long. The labels for each HDMI channel on the LCD are pre-programmed so they cannot be changed (my cousin's setup says DVD HD 3 when it's actually connected to a computer), but it's not something I would fuss over. Over all it's a fairly decent system when you factor in the inclusion for the HDMI receiver. I have not seen any other system on the market that includes HDMI receiver in this price range. May be there is one, but this one is good enough for a budget system.

Get the one with bluetooth...
June 7, 2017
Great sound. More than enough volume for our 12x12 viewing area (which is also open at each end). Combined with our 50-inch screen, this really gives us a home-theater experience. I never noticed how often movies use rumbling thunder and/or storms in their sound effects until we got this system, because the dog hates it. A little too convincing for her tastes. Anynet connection to our TV works great through an optical cable. Love the FM radio too. You know what would make this perfect? A headphone output. Or bluetooth. I think they make a bluetooth version of this, but I was too cheap to spring for it. So...spring for it, and you'l be five-star happy.
Nice equipment with just one draw back I didn't know about blu ray players.
June 2, 2016
Didn't know that blu ray players do not fill the television screen completely. Found out that this is the way it is but otherwise I got the Samsung much earlier than it was expected.
Samsung hit-4100 sound system
February 2, 2016
I purchased this unit because it looked like it would fit my needs and wasn't too expensive. I have had it for over a month and think it was a good buy. It was very easy to hook up. I had just purchased a new Samsung smart tv before buying this sound system. So I didn't mind that the sound system was not wi-fi. I already had some nice rear speakers that I had put in my living room wall when I built my house and I was able to splice them into this system and they work great. This unit has a built in fm radio which was a feature I really like. It doesn't have blue tooth but can be hooked up to your phone with a connecting cable which I can live with. I know that some people have to have blue tooth and wi-fi and the newer units of this model have both but the cost went up considerably. The only complaint that I have is that it says it is a 1000w system. I don't know how they come up with that number but it is a huge exaggeration. It is loud enough for me but I still have my 35 watt marantz receiver from my school days, that and a couple of good cerwin vega speakers. It will absolutely rattle the windows but this supposedly 1000w watt system is no where close to it. Overall this unit was well worth the money for me, sound is great, price was good, and it was easy to hook up. It turns on and off with my tv
Decent\ OK HTS
September 13, 2015
The overall quality, and sound of the product is very good. I have it set up in my apartment living room and it fills the area with plenty of sound. While I am very pleased with some aspects of this product there are a number of disadvantages.
First is the speaker/ speaker wires. Unlike standard speakers the wire is fastened to the speaker itself which means you must splice to lengthen and on top of that the other end of the wire is a custom fitting which plugs into the receiver (I will say though the color coding is a nice touch).
Second off is the lack of connections. If you plan to hook up multiple devices you must buy an assortment of adapters to make it work.
Third disadvantage is that this does not connect to the internet so to listen to anything you have to have it hooked up to the system.
Fourth might be because I haven't figured out how yet but when you plug an iPhone or Computer into the analog (using an RCA to 3.5mm adapter of course) you will only get audio out of the front 2 speakers (and the bass with the computer).
There are some other nit picky things that I did not like but these were my top cons. Overall I am kinda happy with the product but the lack of features, usability and ease is very annoying. I will also say this is my first HTS so there was a bit of a learning curve but I am very tech savvy and it was still a bit difficult for me.

------------- UPDATE (11/17/15) ------------

I've had the system now for roughly 2 months and things are running smoothly. I have primarily been using it with my Xbox One through a Toslink (SPDIF) cable to watch Netflix, listen to Pandora etc... and it is pretty freaking awesome. While the system does have its drawbacks, the sound quality is exceptional considering the price which is why I changed my review from 3 stars to 4 (I would’ve given 3.5 but I cant). I honestly think it could hold its own against a mid-range system strictly in terms of sound quality but the reason this one is so much cheaper is because this one has hardly any connections and no access to the internet (unless you have ANYNET or whatever but like most of you, I don’t). If you're considering this system because of the price, be careful because you might end up paying for it in adapters, converters and other compatibility s***. If you have multiple devices that you're considering using with this, I would highly suggest sitting down and creating a device map of some sort with the connections you will be needing. As an introductory product to the HTS realm I would probably recommend this to someone; depending on how good they are with electronics and how many devices they're planning on plugging into it. If you're looking for a HTS that will be relatively cheap, sounds great, be straightforward, and will only be hooking this up to 1 or 2 devices (assuming of course that they're both different connections) I’d say this is definitely the right product for you.

An insight for using a (any) computer with a HTS. The computer must have a sound card which supports 5.1 audio. If it doesn't, regardless of the connection you're using you will only get LR audio, or in other words only the Left and Right speakers (on the HTS) will output sound and if you're lucky MAYBE the sub woofer will play too. However, even if your computer doesn't support 5.1 audio there is an option of getting an external sound card that looks promising but I don't have one nor have I used one so I cannot attest to their functionality.

------------- UPDATE (3/05/16) ------------

The HTS has been setup now for about 3 months and I couldn't be happier. After a bit of troubleshooting I discovered that my iPhone 6 DOES work with the system (I was using Pandora I'm sure it works with Music but I'm not sure). The problem I was having earlier was because the HTS didn't like that I was using a 3.5 mm aux splitter with my iPhone and another device connected at the same time (Only my iPhone was sending audio, the other device was off). Now that I'm able to connect my iPhone with the system (and utilize 5.1 audio) I'm much happier with the product. The system is running great and at the moment no one lives in the apartment underneath me so I am able to truly enjoy the HTS, will be disappointing when someone moves back in.
Great player - Good Home Theater
July 26, 2015
Fairly easy setup with Dish DVR and Sharp Aquarius TV. The Samsung unit ID'ed my TV and automatically linked it when I turn on the tv and sat, the amp comes on as well. The speakers look cheap but sound very good. The Blu-ray player is fantastic and and the DvD enhancement is wonderful. Only down side to this model is no Bluetooth for playing from devices. Have to use an Aux in cable with L&R RCA ends. There is no Mini-Stereo Audio Cable 2.5mm connection!

Good at first but...
March 4, 2016
When I first bought this I loved everything about it, the sound quality, small form factor, range of remote different options for inputs, all of that. But now after a couple of months the fan makes a horrible whining at rattling noise and basically ruins the product. The noise is now so loud that I have to turn the sound level up way past where I would like it to be and it gets very annoying very quickly. It rattles into my tv stand and I even hear it on the glass on that now. Very upset with the build quality of this product. Would return for my money back if it was soon enough
good for small room and multiple devices
October 27, 2015
Easy install, but probably not for bigger spaces.. We have a LARGE living room with a vaulted ceiling and the sound reproduction isn't stellar. I do like the control buttons on the main unit, you don't have to scroll from tv to blue ray to your gaming device, one dedicated button on the front will switch it up for you, meaning you don't have to search for the remote. Tip: you are going to want extra speaker wire, the subwoofer has a VERY short line.
Overall it is great for the price I paid
December 5, 2014
I bought this for a short term fix in my living room. Eventually it will make it into my bedroom where I do not need a very powerful system. So I was trying to save some coin by getting this for now.Overall it is great for the price I paid. I purchased a refurbished edition for $78 I think it was. For that price, it was an absolute steal. And honestly, the system looks as though it was never used.It runs great, but the sound is sorta "meh" for me. Now for $78 I know you get what you pay for. It will do great in my small bedroom when it gets moved, and right now I am not looking to spend $700 on a new Bose unit. For someone on a budget, especially around the holidays, this is a great buy. However, if I paid the original asking price of $159.99 for a new system...Well I would be vastly disappointed. It just doesn't have the clarity I would want for my living room home theater system. For $78 though, a great purchase for a small bedroom or den.
For what I paid, I shouldn't complain...
August 10, 2014
GREAT sound for movies. The radio has the quality of a 1960's era transistor radio though. I'm not sure whether it's a near faulty set up arrangement on my part though or if it's the unit that I sometimes have a difficult time getting what I want to come on to work right the first time with the press of a button. For what I paid for this; I can't complain I guess. I suppose I got a pretty good deal. It came professionally packaged, my particular unit WAS refurbished, so I knew what I was getting myself into for the most part when I purchased it. I guess I could give it 3.5 stars, maybe 3.75, but NOT 4. HAD I PURCHASED this NOT refurbished, and the radio sounded better and everything worked the way I expected it to work upon the press of a button, I might give it 5 stars based on the sound quality put out for watching movies. GREAT, great surround sound for those. Relatively easy to adjust distance parameters and so forth. I like RCA stuff alright. They've been around a long time. You have to give them SOME credit.
You may be better off spending a little more.
October 3, 2013
I bought this because of the price and that it has three HDMI in ports and one out port plus various other connections. I read through a lot of the reviews and most people simply hated or said it was worth the price. One review stood out to me about some of the issues so I have been monitoring it closely. It seems, after a couple hours of use, the sound will occasionally cut out for a couple seconds at a time. I'm not sure if the next issue only happened to me, but there are three HDMI settings. HDMI 1, 2 and 3 and HDMI 1,2 and 3 on the back to plug into. They didn't match up. In order to switch to what I have plugged into HDMI 1, I have to press HDMI 2. Not a big deal, but still worth knowing. The only other issue I have discovered is occasionally, when I turn the surround sound system on first before anything else, the component I go to use doesn't transmit. It seems to be remedied simply by turning off the surround sound and turning it back on once everything else is powered up.Bottom line is this, if you have the extra money to spend, do it and get higher end hardware, however, if you are looking to save as much as possible, this really isn't a bad deal even after considering the issues.
Decent cheap system, lacking some things
August 18, 2013
I purchased this and installed it 3 days ago, here are my impressions.1. Fairly easy to install. Color coded wires, plenty of length for speakers.2. Setup is a bit of a chore. The readout is an 8 segment LED display from the 80's. You hit "setup" on the remote, and the readout screen says "dimmero" I thought it was in the wrong language for a while, until I realized that is "Dimmer: 0". You can set up the brightness of the readout, and the volume of the 6 speakers. That seems to be all of the setup options. I can't find any option to setup the equalization, aside from 5 presets (pop, classical, movie etc...) They all sound about the same.3. Sound quality is pretty good to my ears, except it's really heavy on the low end. Even with the sub unplugged it sounds muddy and bassy. I feel like the clarity of the speakers is fine, if only there was an option to adjust the equalizer I think it would sound fantastic.4. Extra features: It's supposed to have features like "night" mode, where it enhances the dialogue while dampening the explosions etc... There's a button for it, and several other features on the remote, but they don't do anything as far as I can tell. I press them and nothing changes on the display, and the sound doesn't change noticeably. My unit also arrived missing the FM antenna cable. Not a huge deal since I don't listen to radio a lot, but still sort of an annoyance.I'm glad I bought it, since it's better than my TV speakers and I'm satisfied with the price. There are a lot of little issues with it that seem like pretty obvious misses. I noticed several home theater systems in this price range when I was shopping, and next time I'll go with another brand.

The Subwoofer do not have the real bass, because its a passive subwoofer instead of a powerd subwoofer.
The sound is good too for the money
May 4, 2016
I have the 500 watt version of this and the dvd player wont play. The DVD players on these models are the first thing to fail. But for the cost if you have to buy one of these every 5 years their worth it. The sound is good too for the money.

April 3, 2016
I have run into a bug in their firmware, every now and then, when playing a Blu-ray disc voices will stop working. Background sounds and music will keep working. The only thing that fixes this is to unplug the unit from the wall and plug it back in, hard reboot. While talking with some of my friends it seems to happen to others, but here is the weird part digging around on the internet I can find no one having this same problem, most will have a speaker disconnected or a sound setting wrong. I have never had this problem with my Play Station 3.

March 3, 2016
We can't seem to figure out why certain DVD's/Blu ray don't have voices? Or why all speakers don't work at all times except when playing a movie. TV should be able to control all speakers as well. I have gone through al options on all menus and setting screens. It works when it wants to.
Works OK but kind of disappointed with the noise made by motor spinning disc
February 4, 2016
Works OK but kind of disappointed with the noise made by motor spinning disc. It is louder than the movie when levels are low. Also, the plug ins for the speakers are very loose and do not click in. I had to tape them in to make sure they stayed in the sockets.
I moved my unit to a place I would rather have not had it due to noise from motor. I would not buy again if I had a choice other than returning and going through the hassle of that. Good enough for the price.

Was not a long lasting item
November 1, 2016
Did not last long and for people with limited income, that was disappointing.
you get what you pay for.
August 3, 2015
First off, listening to music in analog or through rca plugs, each song played you miss the first three seconds of sound, The sound is okay, I have had this system one day and the TV rca transister blew, and I was forced to switch over to the vcr plug. Really you pay for the speakers and they are worth the money, but be sure to have another 4 ohm receiver on hand, because you will need one. tv picture is great, for the little bit I used it. surround sound could be better as well.
Works Just Fine If You Don't Mind Missing Snippets of Dialog
March 3, 2015
Overall, this is giving me what I expected. It's a rudimentary surround sound system for someone who isn't really an audiophile. Totally what I was looking for at the price point I was looking for.But here's the thing... Every now and then it decides to briefly stop transmitting sound. I've experienced a very brief gap in sound (up to 1 second at a time) through every device connected to this receiver (DVD, BR player, Roku) and have verified that it was not an issue with the video itself by rewinding and replaying those bits just to find out what the characters were actually saying. So I would NOT recommend this for others unless you don't mind missing pieces of the dialog while you're watching a movie or show.
I am a pretty easy going person
August 5, 2014
Well, I am a pretty easy going person, and would usually never bother returning an item I purchased online.I am returning this it after one day of use.I am certain that in some applications, this system would be just fine, however, there were two issues that made my mind up for me:1) The sound is "Muddled". Unless you have the unit in stereo mode, there are no EQ controls.2) There is a rather loud fan in the unit, it is audible even with the system at mid volume level. This would have driven me nuts, so, back in the box it went.I guess I'll see how good Amazon is with their returns in the coming days.
Very Limited, Poor Sound Quality, Works 90%
June 12, 2014
I wanted to give this unit 3 stars because I'm relatively happy with it, but the reality is that the audio cuts out often enough that you rarely go a sitting without it happening. Beyond that, if you just want to be able to have surround sound and don't want to spend $200, this works. The speakers sound really awful. People in other reviews say they're not audiophiles so they can't tell, but guaranteed, the average person would found the sound quality to be lacking. If the point is to get a surround sound system at a low cost, rather than getting this, I would recommend you check your local stores or whatever amazon offers open box to get a discount on a better unit.
Didn't work, poor sound quality
April 7, 2014
I ultimately had to return this item because the sensor was not reliably getting the commands from the remote. We even bought a new universal remote for this thinking the issue was with the remote but the problem persisted with the universal. It was like trying to use a remote with batteries that are nearly dead. Some button pushes worked, some didn't.Remote issues aside, I was not happy with the sound quality of this system. We spent the entire even fiddling with the settings on the system and our tv/cable but no amount of combinations sounded as good as even our last much cheaper system. The bass especially always sounded too intense or just not fitting to the image on the screen. Perhaps we could have found the right set of settings if we were not battling the remote issues but for the cost of this system(though obviously not the priciest of systems) I expected better. I should not have found a system nearly half the price of this one, as our last one was, to be superior.

Broke 2 months after purchase( speakers wouldn't play correct speaker during test). Out of Amazon warranty but not 1 year manufacturer. Called Samsung and was very pleased with their customer service. Shipped it to them. They had it fixed, returned, and working by day 10.

June 11 2017:
Well I think it's caput. Put dvd in, player spits it back out saying "cannot play dvd". Warranty gone back in February so I'm out of luck. Im goikg to try tech support but, like my other Samsung devices, I have the feeling the "out of warranty, sorry" conversation will ensue. Before you "tech gods" castrate me yes I tried resetting, did a hard reset, updated firmware, firm hand to the top with a few choice 4 letter words that usually works for other mass produced electronic equipment. Nothing, to no avail, she gone. If I have any success with product support I will update. No update consider it $h!+ canned.

If you are already going to spend your money...spend a little more and get a nicer set up. There is a sound delay with every new track, and the sound quality is out dated.
Cheaply Made
December 26, 2016
This product became defective within the first 2 weeks of use: it developed a grinding noise while in use and the audio and picture would go out randomly. We have a 5 year old WestingHouse television, used HDMI to hook it up. You can find a comparable product to this within the price range without these problems- I recommend staying away from this system. Our seller was also not satisfactory- if you are trying to buy from stores123, please read on:BUYER BEWARE: stores123 is reseller, they have nothing to do with the quality of the product and their return policies are VERY STRICT. Cited from the Return Policy included on their Seller Profile, "You may return all new, unused items within 07 days of delivery for a refund. The item should be in the condition it was received, unused, and in the original box and/or packaging"The item we purchased through stores123, an RCA Home Theater System, became defective within the first 2 weeks of use In accordance with the stores123 return policy, we have no options available to us for refund or replacement of the defective product through stores123. We now have to go through RCA for a solution. This situation has been expensive and time consuming for us.In addition, our product did not ship until 1 day AFTER the estimated delivery date, so stores123 did a poor job as a reseller as well.
didn't like the system
July 14, 2016
didn't like the system. audio takes 2-7 seconds to start back up when you pause whatever your watching. I gave it 1 star because the speakers are pretty good, and its difficult to find a set for the same price or cheaper. I just replaced the receiver with a different one and had no problems.
Stopped working after an hours use.
June 11, 2014
Received this item in the mail today and everything looked very nice. I set everything up and was playing music from my computer with great sound. In fact for the price the sound was very loud and clean. The bass however, was not to bad and i liked how it came with different bass options. Only into an hour of playing music i heard a crisp popping noise from the receiver and the sound cut out and my system turned off and now no longer functions. I am returning the item with little chance to try to reorder again.
not good
December 26, 2013
Worked fine for the first few days then started making a horrible noise for the first half hour when it gets turned on. Sound cuts out intermittently sometimes completely when switching sources or changing the channel.
Almost barely gets the job done....kinda.
November 30, 2013
This system is really bad. (For me)PROS:-It cost me about $150 with the tax, warranty, and shipping included, so it's fairly cheap. (I guess I should have realized that you really do get what you pay for)-It's pretty small, and very powerful.CONS:- The surround left speaker is louder than the surround right speaker. I messed with the levels of each speaker and they still are unbalanced.-The fan noise on the receiver is very noticeable, especially during quiet moments in music or movies.-The sound cuts out, accompanied by a loud pop from the subwoofer. Even if the volume is not that loud, this still happens, about once every 4 weeks. It's not a super major problem, but very startling and annoying when it does happen.-Sound drops and comes back in 3-5 seconds later, for no reason. This happens at least 5 times a week.-If you pause a DVD or Blu-ray movie, the fan (not the receiver) powers down. When you unpause the movie, it takes about 5 seconds for the fan to power back up and the sound to come back on. This happens with every DVD and some Blu-ray movies.-This system won't play Dolby Digital 5.1 Ch. or DTS 5.1 Ch. audio on games like Gran Turismo 5, Dirt 3, or Assassin's Creed 3. It's very tiring to have to go into the settings on my Ps3 and uncheck the 5.1 options every time I want to play these games.-There is no mid or treble present on this system. All of the sound is bass and low end. There is also no way to change the bass, mid, or treble levels. I can see why, because there is no mid or treble in the sound at all to begin with! This is the biggest problem I have with this system.-The only way to change the bass and almost non-existant treble and mid levels are to have the system play in stereo mode. If you do play in stereo mode, you can change preset EQ's like Rock, Pop, Jazz, etc, but not individual bass, mid, and treble levels.*As a side note, if you live in an apartment, or watch movies/play games late at night, and want to use the night mode, which lowers the sub output, it only works in stereo mode. The unit looks nice, and I was very excited to get it. Hooking it up was easy, as everything was color-coded. The user manual is junk because it didn't tell me anything I wanted, or didn't already know. Again, the system is small and powerful, but just has too many problems. I will be returning it and getting something from Onkyo or Yamaha that has a larger receiver and better quality. I know that RCA is a good company, but the Home-Theater-in-a-Box units for most companies are not the best. The reason I wanted this surround system is because it was cheap, and had an optical input for my Ps3. I should have saved up another $250 and went with a better brand like Yamaha or Sony.I would recommend this system for anyone who wants a very basic 5.1 surround sound system and is not looking for quality. I've learned that there are better systems out there. Read the reviews, watch YouTube videos on a particular system you're interested in, and if there is a problem that shows up in more than one review, be prepared for it to happen to you if you decide to buy that system.Oh, the biggest pro I've noticed is that this system does play certain sounds where it's supposed to. For example, the scene in the end of Back to the Future where the helicopter is flying over the town square has an excellent use of the surround speakers, even for this system. It's very accurate and sounds like the helicopter is right there in the room with you. But one of the cons with this pro, is that other sounds, like dialogue, and musical scores, are sometimes played heavily in the surround speakers. This can get annoying to hear things like dialogue quietly in the surround speakers, when it's supposed to be coming almost exclusively from the center channel.I don't think I got a 'lemon' or bad unit because other reviewers have had some of the same problems as me, like the sound cutting out, or taking 5 seconds to come back in after a movie is paused.Anyway, I was not very satisfied with this system and will be returning it ASAP. Look elsewhere for a better 5.1 surround sound system.

therefor leaving me with wasted money and nothing to show for it

BUYER BEWARE! I ordered this product for my son for his game room for Christmas, unfortunately I purchased this product in October and kept it safe and sound in the closet waiting for Christmas morning. After this was opened on Christmas day, we plugged in and set up and this will not stay on, keeps turning off, so I contacted the seller to make an exchange and because the 30 day warranty has expired they will not exchange nor refund, therefor leaving me with wasted money and nothing to show for it. VERY UNHAPPY not to mention my son's disappointment.
Sounds goes out intermittendly - known issue - sound also not very good.
October 30, 2016
On third call to service - sound goes out intermittedly. We are waiting on a service tech. We should have never been told to reset it and update firmware for a known hardware issue for this product. Sound is not all that great and the price is now higher than we paid almost a year ago! Should be giving them away instead of increasing the price ! If you do buy, purchase the warranty. In another month (after manufacturer warranty out), we might get a replacement since I doubt SAMSUNG will actually fix it.
Pathetic Product Support

Please dont buy Samsung Home Theater systems. They dont have proper firmware update programs. Now I cant play Bluray discs frm20th century fox. I requested a firmware update to Samsung . Now its almost 2 months and no updates.
Please be careful while choosing this product.
Was great until it stopped working after 3 months of use.
February 21, 2016
Was great until it stopped working after 3 months of use. I didn't use it everyday, so it was a light use. One day, I was listening music from flash drive, and music was going on and off. I thought it was the flash drive. Then when I tried to watch a movie, from tv, no sound. I tried from dvd, couldn't even open the drawer to insert the dvd. When on the TV screen, to check what source it was on, couldn't change screen. I can go from DVDs, to fm, to anything else on the player, but nothing from the TV screen. Fm no sound neither, nothing at all. Will have to contact Samsung. Pretty upset right now.
Doesn't work and No Customer Service Support from Samsung
January 16, 2016
Horrible product. Looks nice & easy set-up but the output sound when playing a dvd in English is muffled and you can hardly hear the words although all the background sounds are in full clarity. As well, the system doesn't play my TV sound. I called Samsung Customer Service, got a Rep. who could barely speak English and new just about nothing about the product. Now, Samsung wants me to ship them the DVD player to their repair facility at my cost. NO THANKS!!!!!!
