Five Star Reviews: | 72% Perfect. Drilling a 1/4" hole through hard rock maple ... September 21, 2017 Please realize that this is meant for LIGHT work. Outing a 1/4" hole in drywall for an anchor? Perfect. Drilling a 1/4" hole through hard rock maple two inches thick? Not so much.I made a simple kit that includes this drill, bits, a combination screw driver, a level, a measuring tape and a hammer. In the rest of the compartments I added all sorts of picture hangers, anchors, screws, small nails, Velcro, hooks, etc. it is my go to for hanging up anything. I love it. Use it all the time. but i am super glad i did May 1, 2017 i wasn't sure i wanted to get this, but i am super glad i did. it really does work on a great amount of things, and it isn't that hard to manage, switching the bit sizes. Currently using it for a few art/garden projects. Craft Drill August 20, 2016 I am absolutely shocked with how well this works. I have a variety of drills in my workshop, but don't use due to inconvenience. I wanted something I could use without creating much noise and not have to worry about charging. I took a fake metal coin that I'm making a necklace out of, and this just drilled right through. It is cord free, portable, and strong. I'm excited to use it for other crafting projects, as it does exactly what I need. Love love love it August 16, 2016 Love love love it. It's sturdy, takes a bit of time to adapt to, but so handy and basically noiseless, requiring no batteries or cords. I wish the enclosed drill bits had a case or pouch of some sort. As it is, I use a large rubber band to keep them together with the drill. So I found this one on Amazon and it worked like a charm July 13, 2016 This little drill works. I didn't know there was such a thing as a hand drill, Just discovered that when I was online trying to find out how to drill using a very small bit. So I found this one on Amazon and it worked like a charm, drilling into the baseboard. I needed to drill a small pilot hole to screw in a doorstop. Anyway, it was easy and I'm happy I found this drill and I'm sure I will use it many times in the future. Handy little drill that works just as well as the big ones for most jobs and better for jobs needing extra precision and control April 30, 2016 Great little drill which takes up much less space than a typical battery or AC powered drill motor and weighs almost nothing. Not needing to make sure the battery is charged (or to find a drop cord and outlet for an AC drill motor) is really nice. It takes surprisingly little effort or time to drill holes, and the hand crank provides much more control and precision than a drill motor can.I used to have an old Stanley push drill, which was useful because it was very portable and could make very clean holes in wood. But it was limited by the handful of special push bits it could use, and it lacked fine control. This drill can use any standard drill bit, and gives you the ability to carefully and slowly start a hole by just inching the crank forward.I find myself using it more often than I do my prized Dewalt. For the big jobs, I still use the Dewalt. For everything else, this drill is simply more convenient and useful. Highly recommended. | 60% A very nice small diameter bit set. September 15, 2017 When I bought a Black and Decker cordless drill a few years ago, a set of drill bits matching the #15557 was included. As I usually drill smaller diameter holes, these bits were often my first choice, even though I have several other drill bit sets. Through the years this 10 bit set has served me quite well, and I really have nothing bad to say about them. The diameter size ranges from 1/16” to 1/4”. A couple of the smallest sized bits broke, but that is not that unusual with normal use.The rubber holder is convenient and provides easy access, but storing the bits in a hard case would be recommended to help prevent one of the smaller bits from accidentally being broken. The price can fluctuate widely, with $3.88 as an “Add On” item being the lowest I have seen. Even if you do pay a little more, you will probably not be disappointed by the quality and performance of these smaller diameter bits. Simple yet does the job. August 16, 2017 I got a drill for the first time needing to do a few things here and there, these have never given me an issue and work great...my needs may be more on the simple side but still i love it! Great drill bits July 17, 2017 I am quite happy with my Black & Decker Drill Bit set...they work well and last a long time. I highly recommend these to anyone, even the woman who enjoys using a drill now and then. It is the little bits that take the most abuse ... July 16, 2017 It is the little bits that take the most abuse. This kit replaced most of the small bits in my set for very little money. worked for me!!! April 24, 2017 These were a total life saver for one of my diy projects. They were affordable and did what they were suppose to do. I have a light weight drill that I use for diy if that helps. Very pleased with this purchase January 5, 2016 Very pleased with this purchase. Purchased this to go with my Black and Decker cordless drill (not really sure which model). These power through dry wall, wood, and cement very well. We have not tried on anything else yet. The black part holds each piece in a practical fashion, making it accessible but also keeping them safe. So far we have not lost one yet. The only con is my own fault. I wish I would have purchased some larger drill bits for installing large anchors in the wall. For now, the largest size one has done the trick. Again, that was my own fault. Awesome product. | 68% There are no reviews yet | 0% There are no reviews yet | 0% There are no reviews yet |
Four Star Reviews: | 16% Good for small projects October 6, 2017 Good for small projects esp when electricity is not available. I need a hand drill for traveling to do minor repairs on small boats. This won't tackle big jobs, but for minor stuff on not too hard/dense material it does the job. I use this all the time. A cordless drill would be nicer, but I can't travel with that all the time and often I have to do repairs when I don't have access to electricity. Great for manual control and fine tuned work February 8, 2017 Great for manual control and fine tuned work. The body is a bit clumsy in my hand, but I do have hands a bit smaller than most. My only minor complaint is I wish the crank was raised a bit further away from the body so it doesn't knock your fingers quite so much. Great for LEGO jewelry making! May 17, 2016 I was surprised at how effective this is. I have been using it for LEGO jewelry / crafts and it works like a charm. I like that it is not electric because I feel like I have better control over what I am drilling since the holes are very small and precise. Good for time to time drilling March 8, 2016 Good for time to time drilling, but do not plan on using this as your power drill replacement, the gears do wear out after a lot of use (I don't blame the drill, but it was sad when it happened). My power drill got lost during the move, and this little guy helped me hang all the pictures, mirrors, and shelves for my wife - I definitely got my money's worth. Seems to do a pretty good job for a partially plastic hand drill December 28, 2015 Seems to do a pretty good job for a partially plastic hand drill, the included bits are as good as any other, it's obviously going to have some limits compared to an electric drill but it does go through hardwood just fine with a good grip and some patience. I only gave it 4 stars instead of 5 because there doesn't seem to be anyway to get the bit in there very tight, the method they tell you to use involves holding the plastic handle, then placing the bit in and trying to tighten the head by hand while your fingers slip. Trying to use a vice or something would defeat the purpose of the portable hand drill and risk breaking the plastic body, so just remember this is a hobby drill and not a work horse. Nice Craft Drill September 21, 2014 Please note this is a CRAFT drill, You can use it for light duty chores around the house, but for anything medium or heavy, you will need a regular drill. The largest bit I can put in it is a 1/4in bit. It nicely handles a 1/16 in bit.The downsides are with changing the drill bits and trying to hang on to the drill while drilling. I have small hands so hanging on to the handle while changing the drill bit is a challenge, but I have it figured out now. Since I have small hands, hanging on to the drills is not such a big deal as I have found a method that works well for me. However, if you have big hands, there may be a clearance problem with the handle. Here's what I like about the drill. I can use regular drill bits, I can easily do pilot holes, I can drill through plastic and balsa wood easily. My grandfather always said you needed to have the right tools to do a good job. My grandmother would have loved this drill. It is light weight, easy to use, you can get into smaller spaces, and over all is very good for crafters and modeling fans. | 16% Should have read the sizes a bit better. I had only one drill bit August 31, 2017 They are very tiny. Should have read the sizes a bit better. I had only one drill bit, and I was looking for a variety of sizes for random house work. I'll probably only end up using the biggest 2 or 3 sizes. Still inexpensive, and works as advertised. Four Stars June 30, 2017 These drill bits are pretty decent. Not great but certainly get the random around the house tasks done. I would've liked the drill bits more if they fit the Black ... May 12, 2017 I would've liked the drill bits more if they fit the Black & Decker drill that I ordered. This product was offered as a bundle package with the drill but the drill is not capable of equipping bits. Great replacement April 10, 2017 I had another tool set which included drill bits, nut and other driver bits. I either broke or lost a few drills and these replaced them and gave me a few extras. If the base of the small bits could have a thicker part for better grip it would be perfect August 20, 2016 We recently moved into a new home as first-time home owners so we've been doing a lot of DIY such as hanging wall shelving. I bought these after a few projects where drilling took forever and way too much effort. The drill bits really helped and made our remaining projects much easier and much quicker. My main complaint is the size of the base. I use these with a Black and Decker cordless drill but when using the smaller bits, sometimes the drill loses its grip on the base of the bit and it has gotten stuck in the wall a couple times. If the base of the small bits could have a thicker part for better grip it would be perfect. Nice extension for the B&D Power Screwdriver January 3, 2015 This is a companion product to the Black & Decker PD600 Pivot Plus 6-Volt Nicad Cordless Screwdriver with Articulating Head. The drill bits allow you to do more with the product and make it an all-around household tool. Like the screwdriver, it is for the homeowner not a professional builder. It makes many household chores easier | 21% There are no reviews yet | 0% There are no reviews yet | 0% There are no reviews yet |
Three Star Reviews: | 4% I like my Dremel drill better! May 13, 2017 This hand drill worked.. but was slow and awkward to use.. I like my Dremel drill better! Not for extended use. Gearing wears out. December 22, 2015 Works fine for a while. I ream out 533 holes in cribbage boards after coating with polyurethane using an 1/8" bit. After 40 boards in 2 months, the mechanism is a bit wobbly. Next purchase will be a Schroeder Small Hand Drill - metal and wood. It should last a lot longer. Barely adequate for very light duty October 27, 2015 Turd-shaped handle is incredibly awkward - hard to get any leverage, hard to keep fingers out of the way of the crank. Maybe this is by design - the plastic housing around the functional metal parts is flexible, and loose. Getting any leverage to actually drill through anything more solid than drywall would likely rip the whole housing to shreds. The chuck, if tightened enough to actually hold the bit without slipping, is difficult to loosen when the job is done, again due to the impossibility of holding the slick, shiny plastic poop-clod shape. It's like it was designed for a Barbie doll, then replicated on the scale of real humans. I wanted something with more fine control than my Dremel, but bigger and sturdier than a pin vise, and also something that didn't require holding exposed gears with your soon-to-be-hamburgered fingers to loosen/tighten the chuck (in other words, something with just a hint of a safety feature, to replace the sturdy, awesome, still functional, but spectacularly finger-unfriendly hand drill I inherited from my father-in-law. Because ow.) I thought this would fit the bill, but I'm going to keep looking. This may be great for crafting or scrapbook ing or whatever most of the 5-star reviewers are using it for, but it's no good for fine woodworking, makerspace activity, or basic home repairs. It gets 3 stars because it'll punch a pilot hole through drywall, and I hung a bunch of shelves this weekend without tearing off a finger. Sometimes old style is better. December 27, 2014 it works for the occasional need of a single hole drilled. Much easier that pulling out and charging the battery powered drill, or laying out the extension cord for the power drill. Useful, but Difficult August 3, 2013 This tool's been very helpful with some things, but in other cases it's a bit tough to use. The long nose makes it incredibly hard to keep this tool strait when drilling into a wall above your head, it defiantly needs some sort of stabilization mechanism on the nose, anything to help you hold it perpendicular to your working surface... | 9% Not bad for drill bits however the 1/4 inch isnt straight ... August 17, 2017 I bought these drill bits as an add on item so they were sub 5 bucks. Not bad for drill bits however the 1/4 inch isnt straight and wobbles quite a bit. Not as noticeable in the smaller bits but once the 1/4" is in a jig it bounces like crazy. They do a pretty decent job though in soft material. I purchased the these drill bits to go with the ... June 30, 2017 I purchased the these drill bits to go with the Black & Decker LI2000 I purchased. It was suggested along with the Black & Decker 71-081 Double Ended Bits. I tried using these drill bits with the screw driver, and I wasn't able to get them to fit. I'm not sure if there is another piece I need to try to get the bits to fit on the screw driver. Does not work with the drill that I bought as6ng March 9, 2017 Does not work with the drill that I bought as6ng A cover of some kind would have been nice. But when you see the B&D name you ... November 3, 2014 The smallest bit broke off first thing when drilling a hole. It got stuck, tried to back it out, but it just snapped. Thus, immediately I don't have the tiniest bit. But - I probably won't need it. There is no case - just the base into which the drill bits fit...so they're sitting out in their base. A cover of some kind would have been nice. But when you see the B&D name you sort of trust you're going to get something good. It's not bad. Just not great. Tools - you buy them to work...so far, at least one bit works. | 11% There are no reviews yet | 0% There are no reviews yet | 0% There are no reviews yet |
Two Star Reviews: | 3% Sharp Edges August 29, 2016 The crank has sharp edges and it will cut your fingers if you're not careful. Crappy....use a real drill January 5, 2016 I followed the instructions, I was using a vice, I did everything right, and for the life of me I couldn't get this thing to even make a dent in a piece of glass (which it supposed is able to drill into). It's pretty much useless to me. Fell a bit short August 20, 2015 Its a fine little drill if you would like to use the small bits it comes with. If you want to use any bits larger ten that good luck. After spending a good deal of time and effort trying to drill through a 1/4 inch piece of plywood i decided to see what limits this little drill had. Don't buy this product if you want to cut out any sort of plug with a whole saw, it wont move a bit after you finish the steadying whole and will begin to crack the plastic case. If you want a crank drill for heavier jobs this isn't the one for you. But if you just want to make a few small wholes then go for it. Useless hand drill. August 7, 2014 Basically useless. I sent it back and got a drill press and can drill anything with that: stones, beachglass and tiles. We attached a dremel 3000 to it and drill underwater in a bowl with a sponge and it works great. Forget this thing. Didn't work for me May 21, 2013 I was so excited to get this tool! It came w/n three days. I returned it after 3 wks. The bit kept coming out. The device wasn't comfortable in my hand. i thought Imight need more stability. I bought a small vice hoping I'd see a difference. For the first time ever I returned an item to Amazon. | 6% Doesn't seem right. August 3, 2017 Came at a good price, but haven't figured out how to fit into my new hand-held Black & Decker batterie-powered drill. So far no good these were "recommended" by Amazon based on the drill I ... June 25, 2017 these were "recommended" by Amazon based on the drill I added to my cart, but they do not fit/work with that drill... Spring a few more bucks and get better drill bits December 25, 2015 So I just started getting into building random things out of wood and the like. I didn't realize that these dril bits are meant for a specific type of drill because they have rounded inserts, which do not work with your basic drill. Also, they are not as sturdy as I had hoped, because the 4 smaller ones all broke when I tried to drill through plywood. Just spend 10 more dollars and get the titanium drill bits from Dewalt. You'll end up saving money in the long run because you'll end up buy those anyways when these break. Does not fit B&D SmartDriver July 31, 2014 This was offered as a companion product when I bought my Black & Decker SmartDriver LI4000 Type 5. Unfortunately, when I went to use them, they do not fit (and it is far too late to return). The SmartDriver requires "Hex Shank" or "Quick Connect" bits, but these are round.I will be buying this instead: http://www.amazon.com/Black-Decker-71-973-30-Piece-Screwdriving/dp/B00099E7W4/ref=cm_cd_ql_qh_dp_i.This should not be offered with the SmartDriver. | 0% There are no reviews yet | 0% There are no reviews yet | 0% There are no reviews yet |
One Star Reviews: | 5% It is horrible. Doesn't give a clean drill hole October 7, 2017 I tried to use it as a drill for copper sheet metal. It is horrible. Doesn't give a clean drill hole, better off using a small nail and hammer. Hate it! I was completely disappointed by this drill November 13, 2014 I was completely disappointed by this drill. I returned the first drill that I ordered because the drill chuck could only tighten around the largest drill bit. I needed the smallest for my project. I was hoping that there was some manufacturing problem. I promptly received a replacement drill. The drill chuck once again tightened around only the largest drill bit. I was attempting to fit another drill bit in the chuck THEN the drill chuck completely STOPPED working. Meaning it would no longer tighten around any of the drill bits. For the record, I was drilling acorn tops. There was no heavy duty work involved. I used the drill for 10 minutes maybe in total. I am so disappointed. I gave this product a try TWICE. If you plan to buy this drill anyway - have a back up plan. I think some product managers must have written the 5 star reviews. One Star November 2, 2014 Very primitive!!! Drill bits, broke off with ease. It difinitly would work on "paper" toilet paper!!!!!! Garbage August 16, 2014 Was able to drill ONE HOLE in maple wood about an inch deep before inner rotary stripped itself and drill bit provided broke. Complete waste of money and ruined the project I was working on along with another tool. Very displeased. | 9% Cheap and break easily August 20, 2017 These drill bits were an add on item for a hand held drill, which is ridiculous because they're not meant for it. When used with an actual drill, they easily snap without much pressure, and get stuck in the wall. Considering the brand name, I expected better quality. These bits are junk! False advising to go with the PD 600. June 8, 2016 I ordered the drill bits thinking they would fit the PD 600 drill and screwdriver combo but little did I know I would also need a bit tip holder . These drill bits were advertised to go with the PD 600. Alas, there was no drill bit holder which means they are of no use to me and the item would be more trouble for me to send back. I'm very disappointed. Does not "fit most brands". April 14, 2016 These bits are listed together with the AV600, and vice-versa, but they're not compatible. The AV600 uses hexagonal bits with a wide base; these ones have bases that are only as wide as the bit itself. The drill can be forced to grasp the largest bit (which is hugely unsafe) but the rest of them are far too small for the drill's cuff. Do NOT make the mistake of purchasing these items together. WILL NOT work with Li4000 another sneaky Recommended Purchase together. Do not Buy! Saving new customers the frustration. February 25, 2016 Another sneaky attack by Black + Decker, the first was the double ended bits 71-081 and now the 15557 10 pieces drill bit set (rounds) not (hex) and will not fit with Li4000 hand held screw driver. This was also recommended purchase together and it doesn't fit because of sneaky advertising. Again, wasted money and not worth the trouble sending it back. Would be cool if Black and Decker just refund back into amazon account purchased from. Low quality, breaks easily November 15, 2015 The smaller drill bits break really easily. Most annoyingly, they break off in your wall, which means that you have to open up the hole to retrieve them, then repair the hole you made to fish the tip of the drill bit out. Turned a 20 minute project into a 2 day ordeal involving patching and repair and waiting for spackle to dry. Spend the extra money on drill bits that won't snap in half on first use.Plus, the larger drill bits are not sharp enough to actually puncture harder surfaces (like hardwood). So you end up running down your motor trying to break through the surface, and generating a ton of mess. Not worth it. "10 Value Pack" value=cheap March 24, 2014 not even worth a dollar. One of the bits snapped like a toothpick on my first attempt. The slimmer bits bend during drilling and they will snap. Can't speak for the larger bits as I have not used them but they look sturdier. Overall, I would invest in a quality set than this. | 0% There are no reviews yet | 0% There are no reviews yet | 0% There are no reviews yet |
