Great product at a bargain price
June 17, 2016
I paid $90 for a Yankee drill (which was stolen by a handyman) from another website. Great product at a bargain price.
Very good and strong hand drill

A High Quality Hand Drill for a More than Fair Price
July 16, 2015
I was very pleasantly surprised to find that this drill is of a much better quality than I was expecting for the price I paid. It is well made and functions with ease. I wanted a hand drill for some rather delicate projects, and this drill has proved to be a very satisfactory purchase.

Great
Awesome 4 Jaw Brace
October 19, 2013
Looking at other reviews - it's hard to tell if this is a solid piece of equipment or not.I decided to purchase this - plus the auger bit at the same time and they work awesome.A few things to note: (1) The brace is NOT built to hold standard drill bits, spades or auger bits. (2) This brace is not designed to work with hex shanks (may work - but jaws won't tighten correctly) (3) most big box stores will not carry the correct bits for these type of hand tools. (4) This tool is built to function as a hand tool. The jaw and handle are not designed to be centered to each other. (5) This is not a hand drill (like the ones with a crank). This tool uses auger bits.Taking these points into consideration - if you are looking for a bit/brace - this is a great choice. If you think it will work for any other purpose - please research the tool before you purchase.
Very Good Shape
June 27, 2013
The drill is in very good shape and works well for hand drilling maples for syrup extraction. It is made of good material and it is very easy to use.

Very good quality, bought for my son in Cub Scouts. He had used it for projects and activities, much safer than power tools in the hands of kids
Fuller 4-jaw, 12 point rachet brace
October 23, 2012
This tool is well designed and solidly built. Prior to ordering, I was a little concerned about the plastic parts. However, when I actually saw the tool, it was obvious that the type of plastic used was far more durable than wood. I had to replace my former long-used brace because the wood handle split when stored for a period of time in a hot, rental storage building. I foresee this brace lasting for a long, long time.

but it looks very sturdy. Good

Have not had much time to try it out, but it looks very sturdy. Good, old-fashioned tool. Wanted it for hanging pictures, etc., when I don't want to bother with charging up a drill.

A fine hand tool , It feel good in my hand as someone cared who made it .
It's a fair hand cranked drill, but could be better.
November 23, 2014
Drill comes in three section and you have to put the drill together. Finish looks like they dipped and just let it drip off till it dried. Upper gear moves up and down, makes cranking jittery. I had to put a piece of wire in the lower gap and oiled it to make it crank smoothly. One plus is it comes with a Lifetime Guaranty.

My husband bought this to drill a large screw into a tree for a porch swing. Took a lot of manual labor but it did exactly what he wanted it to.

Great for drywall
April 29, 2015
This works great on drywall. It seems unwieldy but it works wonderfully. Haven't experienced any problems with the chuck. Just hold the back knob steady and turn the handle, then the drill starts turning. Rated 4 stars for "I like it".
Pretty good.
February 26, 2011
Seems to be made well. I'm a little nervous about the plastic parts but so far they have held up. I haven't given it a beating as I have this in a survival kit and don't use it regularly. I hope I made a good choice. The price was nice!

June 23, 2015
It is too stiff to operate the levers to shift between forward and reverse, not to mention it is not at all intuitive which direction it is set to go.More annoying is that it doesn't seem to hold bits as well as I would like.
Am I weak, or is this drill hard to tighten?
February 5, 2011
I am a very amateur carpenter -read my review with this in mind. I was pleased that this drill takes both straight shaft bits and sloping/wedge shaped shafts. BUT I have terrible trouble tightening the drill to hold the bit securely. The bit keeps slipping! Perhaps a strong man can tighten it sufficiently but I, 130 lb. female, cannot. I pine for my old hand drill, which eventually fell apart after long hours of service drilling gate post hinge bolt holes. A chuck would give more tightening power, but chucks seem to be out of fashion in both electric & hand drills.
Brace with a bite
May 23, 2007
I only gave my product review 3 because my particular brace gear / pawl ratchet slips & has a defect.Otherwise4 stars if compared to similiar designs from other companies.5 stars for being the most economical brace combined with good materials.I believe if I had a non-defective brace like this it would be a fully functional economical brace that would last awhile under normal use.Plastic handles is of good quality & will not respond to moisture like wood handles that sometimes crack if not cared for.I dont who to contact for a replacement. I purchased mine here. This brace is plated great & the 4 jaws chuck appears to be hardened & is made of quality metal & tightens well.Inside the chuck there is a square recess made to fit vintage traditional non hex auger bits. The brace didn't work well with hex shank bits.It will grip round bits & older auger bits securely. As always use sharp augers & drill bits for the best performance & ease of use.

NOT SAME COLOR!
April 8, 2016
The drill itself seems fine (so far), but instead of black/silver gears, it looks like the whole assembly was sloppily dipped in BLUE paint.

Chuck doesn't tightly hold drill bits.
Could be better,
January 6, 2017
The jaws are attached to spring steel leafs and only grasp the drill bit at the top. There is a square indent on the bottom of the chuck but if your bit has a round or hexagonal shaft it will not seat tightly and will slip under pressure.

It does not hold the bit well and seems very flimsy.
Very poor chuck keeps getting loose
May 22, 2014
The chuck tends to work loose when the brace is turned anticlockwise. It's a real pain to use. Other than this fatal flaw, it's just fine.
poor design
February 12, 2010
The drill has a poorly designed chuck (part that holds the bit). It will not hold a bit tight enough for drilling many types of wood.
Basically sturdy, poor workmanship
December 17, 2008
Received this item yesterday. It feels basically solid, but I was very disappointed to see how misaligned the "jaws" are. When adjusting, they don't come together evenly, and the closest they come together is about 3/16". So you won't be able to use it with small bits, even though the packaging states that it can be used with bits of "all sizes."I'll probably keep it, but will likely need to pay a bit more for one of higher quality.

Spend more, get a better tool
September 4, 2014
Purchased this tool for a backcountry wilderness project in Montana. It broke the 1st day of use (about 10 holes drilled). What broke? One of the four chuck teeth just broke off the entire tool making it useless. We had to hike 7 miles out of the woods to get a replacement. The Amazon return policy would not let me return this item. I'm hoping the manufacturer will stand behind their product and offer a refund, please. This tool is better for at-home light duty projects for "fun". The bits suggested to purchase with the brace did not fit well and wobbled in the socket, requiring a close eye to keep tightening the chuck. Pay a little more and get a more a reliable and rugged tool that lasts.
Junk
May 18, 2010
This is cheaply made junk. Broke 10 minutes into the first use. Remember this is a woodworking tool. NOT subjected to high stress or high speed. I DO NOT recommend anyone wasting their valuable dollars on this item.
cuck slips
May 11, 2009
I have only had this a few months. The chuck(jaws) used to slip a little, now it is impossible to use.
