LOVE
June 8, 2017
I love, love, love this rolling pin. I feel giddy whenever I am thinking about rolling out some dough and then I remember that I have this new rolling pin. I have only used it about 4 or 5 times since I got it and I have no complaints whatsoever.
Beautiful rolling pin
May 31, 2017
Beautiful rolling pin. Mine also had the label on it. I picked what I could off, then I rubbed the remainder with a paper towel with vegetable oil and it came off nicely.
The perfect rolling pin. High quality, easy to use and a nice wide length.

The perfect rolling pin. High quality, easy to use and a nice wide length. I was looking for a good pin that works on both noodles and pizza dough. this fits the bill! Not so long it does not fit in a kitchen drawer.
The Right Tool For the Job
November 28, 2016
As the saying goes, "you need the right tool for the job" This rolling pin is exactly what I wanted and needed to making rolling doughs easier and with better results. It feels great under my hands when rolling and I get good, even pressure with not a lot of effort. It did take a little practice to get used to not having handles, but not much. The surface of the wood is smooth, but still has enough texture to hold a dusting of flour when needed. This is going to be an important tool in my kitchen, making lots of delicious sweet and savory treats, while also helping to make memories for many, many years to come. It may even one day be handed down to my kids and/or grandkids, it's that well made! Love it!
One Good Purchase.
December 15, 2015
I had always used a standard roller (roll in the center and handles on each end) before purchasing the J.K. Adams roller. All I can say is WOW!I found it so much easier to roll the dough out. The 19" width provides plenty of roller to easily go in all directions and being able to place my palms on the roller (instead of trying to grip two small handles) seems to provide much more control of the dough thickness. I have already used it 6 time for holiday cookies and will be using it some more.VERY happy with this product.
8 stars!

I am a professional baker and use this rolling pin everyday. I make and roll out bread dough, pizza dough, pastry crust, etc, and this pin has been luxurious to use. First of all, it's heavy, which means you won't need to exert too much force. Secondly, it's made from pure maple and has enough nooks and crannies in the wood grain to be beneficial for retaining enough flour to roll out dough and not stick. Thirdly, unlike tapered rolling pins this one is like a dowel in that it's all flat surface. Lastly, the flat ends are great for smashing nuts. Love it!

Excellent
March 26, 2017
Cant beat the simplicity of this rolling pin. I originally had a large fancy rolling pin which was made of marble and wood. It was so heavy and nearly useless.Instead, this rolling pin works great and I could not be any happier. I guess there is a reason a lot of the cooking videos on youtube show the same style of pin.
Americas test kitchens best!

I got this rolling pin for my partner who wanted to throw the old one away right away because this was the best rolling pin. It is tapered, and easy to clean. It got best rolling pin from americas test kitchen.
Yearly Purchase !!!!!!!!!!!
January 10, 2017
Purchased this pin to make pies, crust, breads, muffins, cookies and pot pies mainly. Have not got around to it yet because of other important matters like busy schedule. Anyway, the pin arrived in sealed plastic with no seam, of course, in a box. I was thoroughly pleased because after opening, holding pin in hand, it feels light like an old wooden broom. There was no nicks, stains or tears in excellent condition. Will be using for the rest of my life time and highly recommend !!!!!!!!!!!
I really love this item
July 19, 2015
I really love this item. I got it some months back, apprehensive about getting a solid wood rolling pin, but I have no regrets.I had been using a metal non-stick, but found that the non-stick made certain tasks more difficult. This is really an excellent choice for pastries or dough.I keep mine maintained washing with warm water only, drying immediately, and using a cutting board oil once a month or so depending on usage. I don't oil it enough to be greasy, just enough to keep the wood from getting too dry.For anyone who is hesitating to buy a French rolling pin, don't, just get one and enjoy it.
Superb, now looking for shorter one
January 24, 2013
J.K. Adams FRP-1 Maple French Rolling PinI have been using the straight ones and the ones with handles for a while, but IMHO curvy (tapered) pins and this one in particular are a lot more convenient to use. With the handles, the pin might not roll when you need it to, and more pressure might get your work-of-art slide here and there sometimes. With the straight pin, everything's fine except that you still need to manually adjust the rough edges especially on shortcrust dough. With tapered pin, and with the appropriate technique using the ends in an oblique and 1/4 of a circle motion, rounding standard 28 cm crusts is a breeze.Measurement of center straight (not tapered) section: 20.5 - 2 x 5.5 = 9.5 inches. Seems short on paper, but no problem on the job, great for rounding edges in fact, with a smooth angle.Order, delivery, finish (surface) were perfect. Using it mostly for shortcrust pastry, beating up the kids and the butter for puff pastry.... just kidding, I'm using a pizza peel for the kids :-)I was on the hunt for an identical but shorter length item. I found (and bought) an 11 inches bamboo one, not tapered, but does the trick for tartlets and Asian dough wrapped goodies. So much for a piece of wood, you wouldn't believe.P.S.: Looks like the kids joke tanked with some readers, LOL! Check the comments ...
Works Effortlessly (once you get the hang of it)
January 5, 2013
This was my 1st time using a French-style rolling pin. It took a little getting used to, but once you understand how to apply pressure outward as you roll in a circular motion, you can roll out a pie or pizza crust effortlessly. I had the technique pretty much figured out by the end of the 1st pie crust I made with it, so I would say the learning curve is pretty shallow.I would suggest hand washing if you use it regularly and get some food-grade mineral oil (also available here on Amazon) and I would expect this to last for many years. If you wash it in the dishwasher I would apply the mineral oil every time.

Just what I was looking for!
July 26, 2017
I've seen this Oxo tool on many different cooking shows on TV. I looked in various big department stores for it, plus a famous kitchen store, but no one had it, so I ordered it from Amazon. It came in the mail yesterday, and I was very surprised how thick and heavy duty the stainless steel scraper is! There's even an inches scales engraved into it!! This will make my life so much easier, as I do a lot of cooking at home. The handle is heavy duty also. I'm always cutting up something, and using the back of a knife to try to scrape up onions, garlic, carrots, celery, etc, was time consuming. I can't wait to use this scraper when I make dinner tonight!!
Strong and Sturdy and Perfect!
June 2, 2017
it is larger than I thought. That is not a problem, but just bigger than I imagined, even though I read the dimensions, I didn't realize it.

But it is great!. It is sturdy and strong metal. The handle is soft and non slip. It is perfect for baking or for scooping up chopped vegetables.

Note: it is not flexible. If you were hoping for a flexible one to scoop in or out of bowls, then get a plastic one. This is very solid, sturdy, and strong.

Great puchase and a must for all who do lots of cooking and need to scoop vegetables or for those who do lots of baking.
Favorite gadget!
September 21, 2016
My favorite kitchen gadget ever. I used the crap out of this thing, and have been whining at my family to get me a new one since I moved 6 months ago. No joke, I love this thing. It is fantastic for anyone into baking or candy making. Keep it mind it has zero flexibility, so think of it as a cutter, as a ruler, and as a scraper, but just not if the job calls for a flexible scraper. When I mix in hot sugar for candy, I like these, because I can get the most off of the surface. I also love it when I'm trying to get my dough precise.
Very nice product, and a great multi-tasker
January 23, 2015
Works great. I always get set with the task of doing all the knife work in my kitchen, so I spend a lot of time at the cutting board, and I really like this little guy. Makes clean up very fast, and you're able to get everything into the bowl very quickly without messing around. It also acts as a very nice dough cutter when baking as well! And lastly, it also has length measurement marking along the blade so you can measure your cuts. A very handy kitchen multitasker. Good quality construction. I see us having this product for a very long time. Recommended
For Bread and Pie Crust
February 5, 2014
I bought this on a whim, and now find that I can't do without it when making bread and pastry. As an engineer, I'm very careful (my kids say loony) about wanting everything a uniform size. I make large batches of pie crust dough, and weigh it, and then use this to cut it into exactly even pieces.

Likewise, when I'm making yeast rolls, I use a scale to divide my batch of dough in half, and then use this cutter to cut off pieces which are exactly 2 ounces. It's much easier than wrestling with your dough.

The handle at the top of this chopper is very large and feels soft, although it's really hard plastic. It feels good in the hand, and works well either left- or right-handed.

Finally, when cleaning up the counter after making pie crust, yeast bread or anything which involves slinging lots of flour around, this is wonderful for scraping it up without marring the counter, and it's large enough to hold a lot of flour and remove it from the counter. OXO makes good quality items, and this one is quite useful.

It's great for batches of bread and dinner rolls
June 26, 2017
I think America's Test Kitchen will put me into kitchen gadget bankruptcy. I bought this on their recommendation, and am not sorry I did. It's great for batches of bread and dinner rolls, and does a great job of cleaning the cutting board after chopping veggies. I'm so pleased with this purchase.
Until you use one, you won't know what you're missing
March 22, 2017
Perfect design and workmanship, incredibly easy to clean, but certainly not designed for chopping. Where that idea originated is anyone's guess..
BUT, it's perfect for pastry or any other dough, AND you'll find it transfers stuff from the cutting board to the skillet far easier and with less danger than a knife. So good I give them away at Christmas.
Americas Test Kitchen Recommended and CapnK tested. Great Product for The Kitchen!
July 26, 2015
Package arrived from Amazon in GREAT Shape and 1 day earlier than expected. Love Amazon delivery!!
Purchased this item based on a radio show I was listening to from NPR - America's Test Kitchen and was impressed by what the reviewer had to say about it. Looked it up on Amazon, and it was priced higher than I'd been led to believe from the radio reviewer, but since I do a lot of baking lately, especially scones, and also a lot of chopping of onions and other veggies, this item definitely piqued my interest. It definitely lives up to the hype of the reviewer and I would recommend this to anyone who has ever cut dough with a knife or pick up a lot of fresh cut veggies from a cutting board. This seems to be the same item, but a bit less expensive, than a similar Dexter-Russell tool advertised on Amazon. And, based on the reviews I read, it seemed to provide the best bang for the buck.
Definitely recommend this as an essential baking and prep tool for the kitchen!!
Comfortable with a sharp edge
June 4, 2015
This is really comfortable to use, and has a very nice, sharp edge. It's the top-rated bench scraper at www.cooksillustrated.com, who said : "The deeply beveled edge of this scraper cut through pizza and bread dough quickly and scraped the work surface effectively. The textured polypropylene handle was easy to hold on to, even with greasy or floury hands, and was thinner than other scrapers’ handles, helping us hold it flat to the work surface for easier, more effective scooping and scraping." I really love these for scooping up chopped food from the cutting board to transfer to the stove-top and for cutting dough into any size. It is great for lifting up the edges of pie dough as you're making crust. It's also the only thing that works to get that pie dough off the cutting board at the end - after a good scrape with this, you can actually clean the cutting board without five minutes of elbow grease :) Highly recommended!
White Dough...
March 20, 2015
I have wanted one of these for a long time and am delighted to have it. It works perfectly for corralling vegetable pieces, dough pieces (cutting dough in half), fruit pieces, etc. I'm delighted with this purchase and routinely use it often.

This is pretty nice but needed a bit of touch up sanding. Not a lot to say about a hardwood dowel but its well turned.

January 31, 2017
I love the heft of this Rolling Pin, and the quality of the Maple is wonderful! It needs some fine sanding, but that's not a problem. It's real wood, so that's to be expected! Highly recommend this product to other lovers of baking! :)

Solid and just the right finish to allow flour to coat.
Works Well
November 14, 2014
I bought this Rolling Dowel because it was recommended by ATK. I like the size and the weight of it. It works much better than the French style rolling pin because of the weight and the length, but given a choice, I would still go back to the old-fashioned rolling pin with handles. I suppose it's because I grew up using that style and feel like I have better control of the dough. This would be my second choice.
It's quality.
January 12, 2014
Ok, this is really just a big fat dowel and if you can find a maple dowel with at least a 3.5" diameter in HomeDepo, by all means, buy it and cut that yourself. But this is quality maple and does a much better job at rolling out pasta than the traditional 'handled' rolling pins. I think it was worth it.

Very useful
June 5, 2017
Good handy rolling pin but doesn't hold flour that we'll so dough sticks if you're not careful. Easy to clean. Kind of large, so could be difficult to store - this won't fit in a standard utensil drawer.
Not cheap, but quality that seems worth it.
March 13, 2017
Nice pin. I have very thick fingers and this makes roll outs much easier. My knuckles don't hit the dough nearly as much since I can cup the handles and still have plenty of control. The straight pin I ordered had a sticker that was IMPOSSIBLE to get off without damaging the pin. This one just slide right off.
It's a great rolling pin
September 7, 2016
It's a great rolling pin. The only thing that was bothersome is that the barcode sticker was on the surface that you roll on so you have to scrub and make sure you get off all of that stickiness but otherwise it is a great rolling pin.
Good all around rolling pin
April 11, 2016
I have been wanting a French rolling pin for a while now. I love to bake bread and one of my favorite recipes is a classic white loaf that is rolled out and then rolled up to form a loaf. This pin does a great job with my bread dough. It's very easy to control, and comfortable. The ends of the pin has the tool marks where it was attached to a wood lathe. They are noticeable so if that bothers you you might want to spend more on a more refined model. It doesn't bother me, in fact I like it because it looks like it's well made. Good rolling pin overall, hope to get many years use out of it
Great
February 20, 2016
If you look at professional bakers, so many of them prefer a French rolling pin. I was in Canada for the summer and in desperation, because my boyfriend didn't own a rolling pin, I used a drinking glass to roll out pastry for apple pies. Somewhat of a disaster. Then I purchased a regular wooden rolling pin. Mistake. The one I had used for years was made of marble. Extremely heavy and not easy to use (leave it too long in one place and you have nearly clear dough, for example) but I loved it. But I took a chance on the French rolling pin. It was under ten bucks, and boy, am I ever a convert. In fact, I have purchased a second one for my main home because I left the other one at my summer home in Canada. This pin takes a bit of getting used to, but it is so much more versatile. There is only one drawback; it is quite long (check the measurements), so make certain you have cupboard space, LOL!
Great Control
November 19, 2015
This rolling pin makes rolling out doughs fast and easy and gives great control. You can use a pastry pin sleeve so doughs don't stick to your pin. I have another high-end marble rolling pin I've had for years, but find I prefer this one with the sleeve, as the dough doesn't stick and you get better control. Only gave it four stars because, as some others stated, I needed to fine sand it to keep the sleeve from catching. If you're not going to use a sleeve, then I don't think this will be an issue. However, it was only a minor one and I'd still purchase this again.

Useful and Well Made.
December 17, 2016
Heavier handle than I'm used to, but a fine utensil.
When you need one - nothing else will do.
In the catering firm we always called it a "bus", probably because it transported food from one place to another (quite apart from its relationship to dough).
It's a nice product, though being old fashioned, I still prefer the one with the pearwood handle.

June 5, 2016
I like it even though it takes up a lot of draw space. Must have if you bake.
Nice quality with some reservations and unfortunately like most everything it is unfortunately made in China.
April 20, 2016
I like this scraper although I agree with America's test kitchen on PBS where they did not rate this as their favorite because the handle is so wide that you cannot get it close enough to the counter for use in some scraping preparation work but other than that I like the quality of the product other than the fact that like most products it unfortunately is made in China.
Why didn't I get one of these before?
January 13, 2016
I got this after reading Kenji Lopez-Alt's "The Food Lab". Then I made chili to fill 2 Dutch ovens, and the prep was a lot more efficient because of this tool. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is a storage issue. I want to keep it out near my cutting board, but can't figure out a sensible way to store it there. If there was a hole in the handle, I'd put a hook on the wall. Does anyone know: can I drill a hole in this? Is it solid plastic except for the blade, or is it a plastic layer over a core material?
Excellent bench scraper
January 4, 2015
This product surely does not need another review, but here goes anyway. I use it exclusively as a bench scraper for moving flour around a baking bench, cleaning the bench, and dividing dough. I don't use it as a chopper; I don't use it to scoop diced vegetables off a cutting board (there are better tools for that); I just use it as a classic bench scraper. It works very well for that purpose. One reviewer was concerned that the scraper is not flexible. A bowl scraper should be flexible but a bench scraper should not be, so that is simply not an issue. The handle is not made of exotic wood, just hard rubber, but it is comfortable, non-slip, and sturdy. I wash it by hand as a matter of habit, so whether or not it is dishwasher safe is not an issue for me. I have seen prettier bench scrapers, and I like the look of a wooden handle, but this is a cost-effective high quality item that should last indefinitely.

It is very comfortable to use
December 1, 2016
I never thought I needed this until I saw it on America's Test Kitchen. It is very comfortable to use. I use it primarily for scooping up chopped food from the cutting board to transfer to the stovetop.
Sturdy and functional
August 7, 2016
I have used this bench knife most frequently for cutting brownie bars. The blade is sturday and just sharp enough and the handle is comfortable. I have found this to be a very useful and well-made kitchen tool.
Dough cutter.
November 23, 2015
I like it, but I'm not crazy about white kitchen tools. It might last and stay unstained, but I soon located a black one that I'm more comfortable with aesthetically. I'm sure it's good quality and will serve well over the years.

This is a solid rolling pin. However, it takes sometime to get used to rolling with no handles.
Almost Too Dented and Dinged Up to be Useful
August 24, 2016
A nice concept with a great 2" chunky diameter and a great length for making soba noodles and other large shoots, but poorly executed. Mine arrived with significant dings and divots in it, which now get reflected in my dough and present an extra cleaning challenge. Do not expect a nice smooth surface, or anything close to it, based on my experience.
Sanding Required
August 30, 2015
This is my second J.K Adams rolling pin. The first one was a tapered model and I did not need to sand the rolling pin. The weight on this one I think will be what I need and it will work great once I sand the rolling pin with fine sandpaper. The rolling pin was not smooth when I received it and I thought of returning it but I think with fine sandpaper, I will get the rolling pin in great shape to roll out dough. Not sure what happened to this one.
Very good.
April 13, 2013
This roller was just as advertised. However, I wish it had some kind of a finish on it. I use mineral oil and it worked ok. It felt as though it was cut, sanded, and sent. Love the size and weight. I would probably buy it again.
Effective but a bit hard to handle
February 5, 2013
I got this on the advice of ATK. It does its job and rolls out dough nicely enough. I find its size to be too large for me though, and probably should have gone w/ a model with tapered ends. Might be because have smaller hands, but for me it's just too bulky

Great pin, terrible sticker
September 30, 2017
Rolling pin is great BUT the sticker is TERRIBLE. These guys certainly could have ponied up the extra 2 cents to get a decent sticker for their rolling pin but instead show us that their rolling pin is worth so little respect that it gets the worst, most ragged, hard to remove sticker possible. Would not buy again simply because of the sticker.

May 3, 2016
Product itself is fine but it comes with a label that is hard to get off, very annoying. It's amazing how many vendors go to the trouble to make a good product and then stick any old label on it. Yeah, mineral oil and all of the usual steps get rid of the label but why should I have to do that? I should have just returned it.
I make pizza crust often and probably will order the non tapered 19 in pin from this same manufacturer as I like the workmanship
January 18, 2016
It's okay but not what I was looking for. I was wanted more rolling space but the tapered handles take away quite a bit of the actual rolling surface. I make pizza crust often and probably will order the non tapered 19 in pin from this same manufacturer as I like the workmanship.

Good shape, rough surface
November 2, 2015
The weight and shape of this pin are good, but I expected the surface to be much smoother. It's a bit rough. I've only used it a few times, but even with flour, my dough sticks to the roller in spots. My old cylinder type with handles had a very smooth finish and I never had a problem with sticking, even after many years. I feel like I have to examine this one for splinters. I'm going to try sanding it with very fine paper. I've added a photo to show the surface.

OK, but not great
May 12, 2016
This was highly rated by a cooking show and magazine. It is just OK in my opinion. The edge of the metal is not even cleanly cut. It is like they just chopped the piece of stainless off a roll with a shear and stuck it into a mold where the handle got stuck on. They edge is not sharp at all, but yet with the excess metal on the edge, it is more like a L shape, and rough. It will cut you. I need to file that off, probably with a knife sharpener.
Next time I will go with my instincts and buy the other brand with 3 letters, starting and ending with O.

Can't remove barcode sticker residue
October 28, 2015
It works as advertised but I've tried everything to remove the residue left by the barcode stick that was directly on the rolling pin. The product arrived in a plastic sleeve in a box, so why couldn't the barcode sticker be placed on the sleeve instead? Be warned that this makes about 2 inches on one end unusable.
NOT from Vermont!!
September 9, 2015
I can't say as to the quality of the dowel but I can tell you this. I'm not sure how it can be handcrafted in Vermont when I just checked the tracking and it's being shipped directly from GUANGZHOU, CHINA. I guess that explains why I ordered it on August 29 and it's not slated to be delivered until September 29 at the earliest. So the info listed as to it's character and quality are not true.
Disappointed.
March 13, 2015
This product is a disappointment. Although I like the size , weight and feel as I use it, it started splintering after only a few uses. I take very good care of my kitchen gadgets, washed by hand and dried immediately, so I was surprised when I found rough edges splintering off about 2 inches from one end. I will not buy J.K. Adams wood again.

September 11, 2017
stupid manufacturer puts bar code label on wood with super type glue. You will have to buy label remover or sand off the label as wet wiping only leaves scabs of paper to be rolled into your dough. How stupid to not use other method or easy remove label. This make user spend time over labels instead of using the pin . Bad business and bad mojo for an easy thing like a rounded piece of wood. Will one day buy larger pin but from another supplier that sees a better way to mark the product with out all the work to remove label put directly on the wood pin. These guys found a way to f up a piece of wood, GESH! better buying else ware i am sure.
Everything sticks to it because it's a raw wood surface

I like it's style, but everything sticks to it. Wish it has a nonstick surface.

March 28, 2016
This rolling pin is angled so you can only roll out a flat surface in the middle I guess I should've noticed that before purchasing but I had a hard time using it as opposed to a regular or old-fashioned rolling pin that is just the same size all the way around

Too big and too heavy
The finish on this pin is such that it feels like it needs sanding and clear coat..its splintery. >.<
December 31, 2015
It is bigger then I expected but when the finish on it feels like little splinters all over I am sending it back the finish is terrible. Now I am new to baking breads so it may be the way it should but I just could not even get past the texture. If you hate the feeling of paper or wood after your hands are wet this is not for you. So I could not even try it on the bread dough to see if the prickly texture stuck to the dough sorry.
Splintery Nick in the wood
December 1, 2015
The main part of the rolling pin is fine - nice and strong and smooth. However, when it arrived, it had a pea-sized nick at the end - the opposite end of the logo stamped on the end. Since it'll be used with bare hands, we'll have to figure out a way to sand it out. I'd return it, but it's for a pre-Christmas birthday gift. Since the nick is near a flaw in the wood, I'm certain it's not due to handling. I am not too impressed with the craftsmanship, or at least the quality control.

November 22, 2016
So glad I didn't throw out my 10-year old scraper/chopper that I got from Target for $2.99. It has a larger surface and lays flat, so scooping up chopped vegetables is easier. Because of the black handle, the OXO scraper/chopper doesn't lay flat. I'll probably leave it in the back of the utensil drawer for a few years until I ask myself why I'm hanging onto it when I have no use for it . . . and then throw it out. Oh, well.

It doesn't cut well for me. Maybe I can use it as a pastry scraper.
Too sharp for me.
April 12, 2016
I had a dough scraper that I used for many years and loved. The handle is cracking so I bought this. But the edge is very sharp. It worked but doesn't move smoothly over my wooden countertop as my old one did. I am afraid I am going to scratch my countertop and it is rather like nails on a chalkboard to me.

I didn't really like it as it's not that great of a chopper. It's just not sharp enough.

Doesn't match reviews/descriptions. Maybe a dud.
July 10, 2016
I ordered this based upon the recommendation of America's Test Kitchen and the numerous positive reviews on Amazon that supported ATK's assessment. The Dexter-Russell Dough Cutter/Scraper that I received did not match ATK's assessment, the positive Amazon reviews, the Amazon page's product description, or the description on the package itself. ATK specifically mentions a beveled edge. The Amazon product description mentions "an individually ground and honed edge." The product packaging adds to the Amazon description "precision ground" and "unique blade geometry." NONE of these description are true of the product I received. There is nothing unique about the shape of the blade. A bevel is a sloped surface or edge. Mine is completely squared off on the edge(i.e., the edge is the same thickness as the back/top of the blade). A honed edge implies there is a bevel to hone. There is nothing to hone on an edge that is not beveled. A "precision ground" blade implies removing material to create an edge/bevel. Mine looks like it was stamped or otherwise cut out of a sheet of metal, attached to a handle, and packaged. Even at that, it is poorly designed because the corners are not rounded. Squared corners are a problem because they easily scratch and dig into surfaces. A squared/unbeveled edge is a problem because is does not properly slide under dough or other food on a cutting board. It is more likely to push foods instead of slide underneath them. Maybe I received a dud that was packaged before going through the grinding/honing stage of production. I do not know, because when went through the return process in the Amazon app on my phone, a refund was issued, and I was told to keep the item rather than return it. I ended up purchasing a different scraper elsewhere. Given the positive reviews and ATK's assessment, I will assume that I received a dud. If you have basically decided to buy this scraper, I would still buy it. Just know that there is at least a small chance you will have to send it back for a replacement that is hopefully not a dud.
I'm disappointed
December 29, 2015
We have an older dough cutter, that recently got bent during use. I ordered the dexter as a review-recommended replacement. It is very dull. I can use my old one to slice and chop fresh veggies, and it works very well. The dexter will not even slice eggplant, even after I sharpened it with a whetstone. It's useless to us.
Edge not beveled as described in Cooks Illustrated top review
December 6, 2015
Dough cutter I rec'd is stamped S196 like the Dexter Russel model rated #1 by Cooks Illustrated. I needed the deeply beveled edge and tless bulky handle described in 'Cooks Iilustrated' review, in order to lift thin rolled-out dough of pie crust/cookies without tearing. This dough cutter is not beveled and the thick handle would make it hard to lay flat to get under delicate dough. May be good for some things but I dont think it will work to transfer rolled dough . Note this is where I was routed to give review but model number appears to differ from one I received

Nice tool, boneheaded tag placement
October 13, 2017
This rolling pin seems like a very useful tool. But the seller put a VERY sticky tag directly on the rolling surface, and it doesn’t want to come off. There are two flat ends they could’ve used, but no. It’s unfinished wood, so an oily cleaner like GooGone is a bad idea. Nor do I want to use a razor blade to scrape it off the wood. This is annoying and frustrating, and it was completely unnecessary. It’s going back.
They must have run out of sandpaper in Vermont
December 1, 2016
How did this get all the glowing reviews? That big spiel about handcrafted in Vermont -special wood--load of bull. You may as well go to Home Depot and buy a dowel and it would probably be finished better. The wood grain is not tight at all! It is rough to the touch all over. I don't know if you can see it in the picture, but I tried to show how it has an extremely rough and unsanded surface. I looked at reviews on cooking sites, too. This had good reviews there, too. Maybe at one time it was decent? I can't imagine anyone liking this now. Summary - open grain - poorly (if at all) finished - do not buy and do not be fooled by their spiel.
Poor quality.
October 29, 2015
Size and shape are fine. Quality of workmanship is another matter. I thought that J.K. Adams was a top notch company and I'm quite surprised by their shoddy work. The wood was not tight grained and I doubt it will hold up. The wood surface was so rough that I had to go out and purchase fine grit sandpaper to smooth out all the rough spots.I'm really beginning to question why I use Amazon. You can't inspect the product, you can't physically feel it in your hand, etc. It's a crap shoot at best.
Slightly warped and a small chunk of wood out of it.
February 4, 2014
I ordered this to roll pottery clay and found a slight chunk of wood out of it brand new out of the package. Decided to fill the hole myself, as I really needed it at the time instead of returning. As I began using it, I noticed that it is slightly warped also. Would have returned it for sure if I had not already filled the hole. Doesn't make a huge difference with the thickness of clay I am rolling(3/8") but would if I were rolling pastry.
No adhesive residue please
October 7, 2013
the rolling pin does a great job but I don't see why they would put a sticker directly on the rolling pin (dowel). I scraped off the sticker no I have a rectangular area of sticky adhesive where the sticker used to be. I have a tapered rolling pin and it came with the sticker on the bag. at the very least they could put a sticker on the end of the rolling pin contact the food.

I don't recommend it.

This item was not properly made and has little splinters all over so I am unable to use it - no one wants splinters in their pastry. I don't recommend it.
Barcode adhered directly to the rolling pin
April 10, 2016
I only gave this product one star because the barcode was adhered directly to the rolling pin. The pin was delivered sealed in a plastic bag. Why not adhere the barcode to the packaging???? I will need to use a very fine sandpaper to remove the glue left on the rolling pin after I tried to remove the barcode sticker. This is a pointless problem and easy to fix.
I thought I would like this rolling pin
January 16, 2016
I thought I would like this rolling pin. I don't care for it at all. There is no straight-flat place in the center of the rolling pin. It is tapered the whole length of the rolling pin. I would like to send it back.
Try the dowel-shaped pin!
December 4, 2015
This rolling pin is not straight in the middle portion. Upon opening the package, I set it on the counter and alternately put light pressure on both "handle" ends. It actually rocks back and forth from the center portion instead of being stationary like a normal handled pin. This will not result in flat/even baked goods! It also has a slightly rough surface with some gouges like some other users have reported. I had debated between this and a straight dowel-shaped pin (I'd rather not worry about cleaning inside rolling pin handles) and wish I'd just gone with the dowel one. It's difficult to see in the pic but only an inch of the rolling pin touches the counter when it's just sitting there. I tried the rocking on different parts of my counter in case the problem isn't the pin but it is.
very disappointed!
October 29, 2015
Shape and size are fine. But it arrived in unusable condition. The pin was so rough that any dough would not release from the numerous wood fibers still on the surface. Is quality control a thing of the past?
Back to the Old Rolling Pin
April 3, 2013
A few attempts to use this had me swearing and ready to toss it into the fireplace. I could not get the right leverage to roll the crust and (not its fault) found it much too long for that type of job on my small counter top. My old-style roller does the job nicely, and I'll stick with that.

This product is labeled as Stainless Steele which should be rust resistant. After each use, I hand washed & dried the scraper to protect the finish. It rusted after only a few uses. I would not recommend this product.

Dull as a hammer
December 31, 2014
Dull as a hammer. It is a bit big to be handled easily, but it is very thick heavy tool and edge is dullest thing in our kitchen.

I use to have this tool as part of the the knife set made by different manufacturer, it was thin, light, razor sharp and we used if for pretty much anything, and unfortunately, this one is nothing like it. Multipurpose? I still need to think one thing I can use it for.

The metal edge isn't beveled and it digs into the cutting board. I had to sand out the gouges on my cutting board. Not happy with it. It would ruin a countertop if you got to close to the edge of your board. I prefer the progressive over this scraper.
