Five Star Reviews: | 83% LOVE June 8, 2017 I love, love, love this rolling pin. I feel giddy whenever I am thinking about rolling out some dough and then I remember that I have this new rolling pin. I have only used it about 4 or 5 times since I got it and I have no complaints whatsoever. Beautiful rolling pin May 31, 2017 Beautiful rolling pin. Mine also had the label on it. I picked what I could off, then I rubbed the remainder with a paper towel with vegetable oil and it came off nicely. The perfect rolling pin. High quality, easy to use and a nice wide length. March 12, 2017 The perfect rolling pin. High quality, easy to use and a nice wide length. I was looking for a good pin that works on both noodles and pizza dough. this fits the bill! Not so long it does not fit in a kitchen drawer. The Right Tool For the Job November 28, 2016 As the saying goes, "you need the right tool for the job" This rolling pin is exactly what I wanted and needed to making rolling doughs easier and with better results. It feels great under my hands when rolling and I get good, even pressure with not a lot of effort. It did take a little practice to get used to not having handles, but not much. The surface of the wood is smooth, but still has enough texture to hold a dusting of flour when needed. This is going to be an important tool in my kitchen, making lots of delicious sweet and savory treats, while also helping to make memories for many, many years to come. It may even one day be handed down to my kids and/or grandkids, it's that well made! Love it! One Good Purchase. December 15, 2015 I had always used a standard roller (roll in the center and handles on each end) before purchasing the J.K. Adams roller. All I can say is WOW!I found it so much easier to roll the dough out. The 19" width provides plenty of roller to easily go in all directions and being able to place my palms on the roller (instead of trying to grip two small handles) seems to provide much more control of the dough thickness. I have already used it 6 time for holiday cookies and will be using it some more.VERY happy with this product. 8 stars! February 14, 2015 I am a professional baker and use this rolling pin everyday. I make and roll out bread dough, pizza dough, pastry crust, etc, and this pin has been luxurious to use. First of all, it's heavy, which means you won't need to exert too much force. Secondly, it's made from pure maple and has enough nooks and crannies in the wood grain to be beneficial for retaining enough flour to roll out dough and not stick. Thirdly, unlike tapered rolling pins this one is like a dowel in that it's all flat surface. Lastly, the flat ends are great for smashing nuts. Love it! | 59% excellent, but.... May 17, 2017 Rolling pin itself is excellent. Have to agree with previous reviews about the odious stickers directly affixed to the wood. I removed them with coconut oil and a LOT of rubbing. Its smaller than I thought it would be but my ... March 29, 2017 Its smaller than I thought it would be but my wife said it was the correct size. She loves it. Great Rolling Pin! Highly Recommended! January 29, 2017 Purchased this rolling pin after dreadfully making scones by hand and patting them out (TOTAL PITA!). Works great, looks great, feels good and durable in your hands and love the rolling action. Great value for the price! Good Product....... November 8, 2016 This is replacing my old cracked rolling pin. This rolling pin is a bit more narrow than my old one but I like it more because of that. It is well made especially the smooth rolling mechanism in the handles. The wood is solid and I have made quite a bit of breakfast biscuits with it and was nice and smooth. Good price for the quality product. Everyone needs a rolling pin! September 12, 2016 I didn't realize how much I needed a rolling pin until I got one. This thing is genius for making pizza crusts. I used to use a drinking glass and always worried it would break but no worries anymore because I have this rolling pin. I just have to be sure to grease/flour it up before use so it doesn't stick but very happy with it. Works great December 28, 2015 I was worried this might be really small or flimsy since it was priced so low but this is exactly what I was looking for. I mainly wanted it for pie and pizza crust and it works perfectly. |
Four Star Reviews: | 11% Classic chef's pin. June 12, 2017 This is pretty nice but needed a bit of touch up sanding. Not a lot to say about a hardwood dowel but its well turned. good for most things June 4, 2017 hard to roll pizza dough with but great for softer dough or light cookies Has a nice Heft to it...Needs a bit of fine Sanding but Very Pleased with Quality! :) January 31, 2017 I love the heft of this Rolling Pin, and the quality of the Maple is wonderful! It needs some fine sanding, but that's not a problem. It's real wood, so that's to be expected! Highly recommend this product to other lovers of baking! :) Works Well November 14, 2014 I bought this Rolling Dowel because it was recommended by ATK. I like the size and the weight of it. It works much better than the French style rolling pin because of the weight and the length, but given a choice, I would still go back to the old-fashioned rolling pin with handles. I suppose it's because I grew up using that style and feel like I have better control of the dough. This would be my second choice. It's quality. January 12, 2014 Ok, this is really just a big fat dowel and if you can find a maple dowel with at least a 3.5" diameter in HomeDepo, by all means, buy it and cut that yourself. But this is quality maple and does a much better job at rolling out pasta than the traditional 'handled' rolling pins. I think it was worth it. | 25% Decent rolling pin August 8, 2017 This is a great rolling pin for simple home cooking but will admit quality is not the best but great for the meantime. For a good rolling pin you looking at around $ 20.00 and more. It is true what many had said about the sticky residue left by the tape when removing the label. I got rid of the sticky residue quick by rubbing isopropyl alcohol then washing the pin in mild soap. So far I hae used this rolling pin making pizza and flour tortillas and had no problem so far. A classic rolling pin July 26, 2017 I got this to crush the graham crackers for the crust when I make cheese cake. It's a classic rolling pin- maybe not quite as sturdy as I remember the older ones being- but it works fine and does what it's supposed to. That's a very poor design choice May 24, 2017 The rolling pin comes with a label with tape which leaves a sticky residue on the pin, which is extremely difficult to remove. That's a very poor design choice. And apparently this has been a complain a lot of people have had for a long time, looking at the comments. Otherwise, it's not bad for the price. It's good, the quality is great April 19, 2017 It's good, the quality is great. The only thing I don't like is the tape they put surrounding it for the product name is so hard to remove. Very basic rolling pin. Nothing fancy. It gets ... March 30, 2017 Very basic rolling pin. Nothing fancy. It gets the job done. I was using a wine bottle before this which worked just as well. Works great and does exactly what I need it to September 25, 2016 Works great and does exactly what I need it to! At this price point, it may not be the highest quality, but it will get the job done. To remove the glue residue, I suggest using Goo Gone and it will come right off! |
Three Star Reviews: | 3% Glue from sticker leaves mark. Sticker difficult to remove ... July 20, 2017 Glue from sticker leaves mark. Sticker difficult to remove. Dowel not very smooth will probably leave little slivers of wood in dough. The sticker does have Made in USA. The item description says; Origin China so maybe the wood is from China Three Stars December 31, 2016 This is a solid rolling pin. However, it takes sometime to get used to rolling with no handles. Almost Too Dented and Dinged Up to be Useful August 24, 2016 A nice concept with a great 2" chunky diameter and a great length for making soba noodles and other large shoots, but poorly executed. Mine arrived with significant dings and divots in it, which now get reflected in my dough and present an extra cleaning challenge. Do not expect a nice smooth surface, or anything close to it, based on my experience. Sanding Required August 30, 2015 This is my second J.K Adams rolling pin. The first one was a tapered model and I did not need to sand the rolling pin. The weight on this one I think will be what I need and it will work great once I sand the rolling pin with fine sandpaper. The rolling pin was not smooth when I received it and I thought of returning it but I think with fine sandpaper, I will get the rolling pin in great shape to roll out dough. Not sure what happened to this one. Very good. April 13, 2013 This roller was just as advertised. However, I wish it had some kind of a finish on it. I use mineral oil and it worked ok. It felt as though it was cut, sanded, and sent. Love the size and weight. I would probably buy it again. Effective but a bit hard to handle February 5, 2013 I got this on the advice of ATK. It does its job and rolls out dough nicely enough. I find its size to be too large for me though, and probably should have gone w/ a model with tapered ends. Might be because have smaller hands, but for me it's just too bulky | 10% Let's Get Baking!!! May 3, 2017 Will work for what I needed it for. It is heavy in weight which is a plus. Too Small! February 21, 2017 This is the smallest rolling pin I've ever seen. While I expect it to work well for small projects, I will be purchasing a larger rolling pin for larger projects, like rolling pizza dough. It's a rolling pin. I've given it 3 stars ... December 12, 2016 It's a rolling pin. I've given it 3 stars, as I don't believe it's buy-it-for-life. If you put too much pressure on it, you can feel the wire inside it giving a little resistance, but I don't think it'll last that long without needing repairs or replacements. Thanks for this one October 3, 2016 Does the job, good price. Thank You for making a decent rolling pin I can afford! |
Two Star Reviews: | 2% Not smooth June 18, 2017 I bit disappointed as the rolling pin is not smooth like my other ones. There are some big rough patches on this one. Im afraid tiny pcs will get into the dough.Need a replacement. I dont feel its right that i have to pay to ship it back for your defect. ... pie maker and think a roller with handles would better suit me December 27, 2016 I'm a beginner pie maker and think a roller with handles would better suit me. Marked as "dowel" on package. This is not a rolling pin. December 27, 2015 This is not a rolling pin at all. The wood is rough and everything sticks to it. Would not recommend or buy again. Can't remove barcode sticker residue October 28, 2015 It works as advertised but I've tried everything to remove the residue left by the barcode stick that was directly on the rolling pin. The product arrived in a plastic sleeve in a box, so why couldn't the barcode sticker be placed on the sleeve instead? Be warned that this makes about 2 inches on one end unusable. NOT from Vermont!! September 9, 2015 I can't say as to the quality of the dowel but I can tell you this. I'm not sure how it can be handcrafted in Vermont when I just checked the tracking and it's being shipped directly from GUANGZHOU, CHINA. I guess that explains why I ordered it on August 29 and it's not slated to be delivered until September 29 at the earliest. So the info listed as to it's character and quality are not true. Disappointed. March 13, 2015 This product is a disappointment. Although I like the size , weight and feel as I use it, it started splintering after only a few uses. I take very good care of my kitchen gadgets, washed by hand and dried immediately, so I was surprised when I found rough edges splintering off about 2 inches from one end. I will not buy J.K. Adams wood again. | 3% Too lightweigjt June 3, 2017 Meh, it is very lightweight and feels cheap. I kept it for the mountain home where we don't live, but certainly prefer something better than this. Glue residue from sticker April 20, 2017 Sticker left glue on the wood. Couldn't find a way to get it off so it doesn't touch my food. Don't put adhesives on food products February 1, 2017 Rolling pin works fine, but underneath the shrink wrap, the label was raped on with cheap tape. Left a sticky residue that won't entirely come off with soap and water. The shrink wrap will keep the label on just fine, what's the tape for? |
One Star Reviews: | 1% Nice tool, boneheaded tag placement October 13, 2017 This rolling pin seems like a very useful tool. But the seller put a VERY sticky tag directly on the rolling surface, and it doesn’t want to come off. There are two flat ends they could’ve used, but no. It’s unfinished wood, so an oily cleaner like GooGone is a bad idea. Nor do I want to use a razor blade to scrape it off the wood. This is annoying and frustrating, and it was completely unnecessary. It’s going back. They must have run out of sandpaper in Vermont December 1, 2016 How did this get all the glowing reviews? That big spiel about handcrafted in Vermont -special wood--load of bull. You may as well go to Home Depot and buy a dowel and it would probably be finished better. The wood grain is not tight at all! It is rough to the touch all over. I don't know if you can see it in the picture, but I tried to show how it has an extremely rough and unsanded surface. I looked at reviews on cooking sites, too. This had good reviews there, too. Maybe at one time it was decent? I can't imagine anyone liking this now. Summary - open grain - poorly (if at all) finished - do not buy and do not be fooled by their spiel. Poor quality. October 29, 2015 Size and shape are fine. Quality of workmanship is another matter. I thought that J.K. Adams was a top notch company and I'm quite surprised by their shoddy work. The wood was not tight grained and I doubt it will hold up. The wood surface was so rough that I had to go out and purchase fine grit sandpaper to smooth out all the rough spots.I'm really beginning to question why I use Amazon. You can't inspect the product, you can't physically feel it in your hand, etc. It's a crap shoot at best. Slightly warped and a small chunk of wood out of it. February 4, 2014 I ordered this to roll pottery clay and found a slight chunk of wood out of it brand new out of the package. Decided to fill the hole myself, as I really needed it at the time instead of returning. As I began using it, I noticed that it is slightly warped also. Would have returned it for sure if I had not already filled the hole. Doesn't make a huge difference with the thickness of clay I am rolling(3/8") but would if I were rolling pastry. No adhesive residue please October 7, 2013 the rolling pin does a great job but I don't see why they would put a sticker directly on the rolling pin (dowel). I scraped off the sticker no I have a rectangular area of sticky adhesive where the sticker used to be. I have a tapered rolling pin and it came with the sticker on the bag. at the very least they could put a sticker on the end of the rolling pin contact the food. | 3% Rolling pin bent on first use. April 10, 2017 Rolling pin bent on first use. By bending I mean that one of the handles is no longer in a straight line with the rest of the roller Just no March 4, 2017 Don't buy this junk. The center metal pin is so thin that handles just bend downward when you apply pressure on it. After three occasions of making past, it's already broken. Well, not snapped, but it's bent. I'm not Arnold. I didn't expect much from a $7 roller, but really? Get something better for few more bucks. Too light and feels cheap January 12, 2017 This roller is too light and feeling cheap. I don't know if it arrived with the crack or not, but I found a crack in it when I was getting ready to use it for the first time. Full of dings, useless. March 7, 2015 Bought this the other day. Showed up with numerous dings in the wood like someone had hit it with a chisel a few times. totally useless as it will not roll dough evenly. Unfortunate waste of money. Will be trying to get my money back. Not The dimensions described October 4, 2013 I ordered this rolling pin A) Because of it's dimension B) because it was Prime and C) because of the price. The reasons in that order. It said in Product DetailsProduct Dimensions: 18 x 2.5 x 2.5 inchesIn reality it was 17.5 x 2 x 2. Significant. I'm sure it rolls out dough like a champ bu who cares the product description is incorrect. |
