I pay for a 50 MB/s connection, which the all-in-one leased vendor (Comcast) 8x4 router could usually supply. However, the vendor device would not turn off its wireless radio or operate as a true network bridge. Replacing it with this Netgear CM700 32x8 bridge jumped the connection bandwidth to nearly 90 MB/s and removed the latency the vendor device was generating. Network performance has increased and the logical complexity was reduced. 5 stars given because it (apparently) does everything exactly as advertised, though the administrator in me yearns for a console connection or some way to monitor the device's internals (you know Netgear built one in someplace for their own engineers!)Niggling detail: the small case screws are either deliberately stripped or use a standard I have not seen before. The foot cannot be removed.

It activated right away via Comcast Xfinity website. I'm now saving monthly on modem rental fees.Right after I bought it, I did see that there is a DOCSIS 3.1 modem. If you want the latest and greatest, get that. However, this on covers value and future proofing well enough.The we interface on the modem basically only has password option. Make sure you have a separate router.

A quick & easy Comcast Upgrade!Took about 10 minutes total.Comcast has a webpage that automatically detects your new modem. If you already have a Comcast account, just login, click register. Wait for updates to push. DONE!To address the 'will not work with voice service' statement... The reason is, there is no VOIP (phone) port on this modem, like on the Comcast. We 'have' voice in our package, but do not use it... so the absence of a VOIP port is a non-issue. So the compatibility issue is due to the lack of a port, and has nothing to do with the service, persey.Performance wise, I moved from 120 to 180 Mbps. All of my wired connections are GigE.

I have the Netgear CM600 on Comcast and it is very fast! I typically get about 170 Mbps down and 11 up, (the Comcast upstream limit), and it has been very rock solid since I installed it. I have to ask why Amazon has the reviews for 3 different models under the same heading. It's extremely confusing unless you really examine the posts. I was wondering why Comcast would say they no longer support this modem from another review till I realized it was the two generations ago model. I am definitely glad I purchased this modem.

I purchased the Netgear CM600 to replace my 6 year old Motorola SB6120 because my download speeds were fluctuating with the old modem.The set up was very easy and I didn't have to call Comcast to get the modem activated.I connected all the cables and powered up the modem. Waited for all lights internet light to stop flashing on the modem.Opened a web browser window and was redirected to [...]. Entered my account and phone number, waited for a bout a minute for the modem to restart and I was online.The setup couldn't be simpler.Did several speed test and I was getting 60/6 Mbps even though I am paying for 25/5.Modem has locked 20 out of the 24 downstream channels and 4 of the 4 upstream channels.Cannot wait until my two year contract expires in April to upgrade my service to at least 150 Mbps.
GREAT once it is connected.

This modem is fairly small in size, but it provides a lot of speed if your provider allows it. We had a little trouble getting it to connect to comcast. You are supposed to connect a pc and use a web page to get it configured. We were unable to do that, and Comcast's support couldn't configure it, either. They scheduled an at-home service call. Yay. So I hooked my old modem back up to the house router and when it came up nothing worked. I realized they had taken the old one off my account. But, it allowed me to configure it on a pc through the router. On a lark, I hooked the new modem up to my router, and it configured through the router just fine. Wasted a lot of time on the phone, but it is great. Lots of speed ceiling for future needs.Would buy again. Would rather never have to call Comcast's service line again.

SUPER EASY SETUP WITH NETGEAR UP on my android galaxy7. Set up and running full steam in 15 min.My poor old linksys (RIP).. had it forever like 8 years.. it was my first wifi router and was adequate.So far this Netgear Nighthawk is a beast compared to what i had. The set up was far superior and smooth transition was little effort on my part.. It picked up all the info.. I allowed the update to load first and selected name and passcode and a few moments later.... TADA ! DONE ! I am certain i will be impressed with the other functions just based on how fast the phone reacted.. movies games etc should be much better. Lets see how long this router lasts eh..Long live the beast..Very Happy with this mid range purchase so far.Thank you !๐Ÿ˜

I was on the fence with this one, because my last Netgear kept dropping the wifi signal. this thing has done a great job, I can use my 8 different devices and they all work great. what is nice about the Nighthawk ac1750 is that it comes with all the bells and whistles the included app is sweet! I like the fact that I can reboot my router if I ever need to from my smartphone. Let that sink in for a moment...I don't have to spend five min on my hands and knees trying to find the right cord to unplug wait 60 seconds then plug it back in. only to do it the next day then the next (ok that was my old router that's why I'm trying this one and so far I haven't had to reboot once)this thing means business I almost doubled my speeds I did upgrade my cat 5 cables to cat 6 cables so I think that helped, however this is the main reason for the speed improvements.

Quadrupled my speed at home. There are 4 important points I'd like to make:1) All these years I paid for a 50mbps speed from my cable company. I had an older Netgear from 2009 which has served me well all these years (and still works) but I decided it was time to upgrade. Typically I was getting only 12-17mbps through my wi-fi (for example, to my iPhone6). After getting this Nighthawk Router, I now get 57mbps on the same iPhone. All of my devices are much faster now... PS4, iPhones, iPads, Epson Printer, Baby Monitor, Tablets, Roku 3 box, Roku Streaming Stick, etc...2) Cables .... Please note, one other thing I did in addition to getting this router is that I also bought all new cat6 cables (from Amazon Basics), and that has helped the router to connect well to the cable modem. From the router itself, I have a few wired items (Roku 3 box, PS4, my PC). And note that I tested the Roku 3 box, PS4, and PC wirelessly as well. In all conditions, wired with Cat6 cables and/or wi-fi, this Nighthawk router has delivered the speeds I was missing for years.3) Interface.... Also, I like the interface for setting up and using the router. I like that you get two options of 2.4ghz or 5ghz connection. One thing to keep in mind is that some older devices can only use 2.4g so it is that old device itself that limits the connection speed (not your wi-fi necessarily). Newer devices are 5g capable and can maximize the speed capability.4) Security... I also like the "Access Control" feature so that you have to permit a device to connect to your wi-fi. For example, when I got a new iPad this Christmas, I logged into my wi-fi network and put in the proper password, but it wouldn't connect to the internet. Then I went to the Netgear interface on my PC and it displayed that the iPad had been blocked (because Access Control is turned on). So then I simply hit a check box to "allow" the iPad onto my home network, and then it connected.Finally, I am not a tech person, I just try to read up on things to the best of my ability. It does exactly what I needed from this device. Really easy to setup, just follow the provided instructions and you will be fine. Final installation is connected to your internet, so make sure you have an internet ready. I strongly recommend you download the NetGenie app for your phone. It gives you extra tools for controlling your router usage and parental controls for internet content. I did a stress test to the router which consisted of: 2 gaming consoles connected through a wired and streaming Netflix; 2 smart phones on Wi-Fi streaming videos and one TV on Wi-Fi streaming Netflix. EVERYTHING worked perfectly.Customer service:Very good customer service. I was greeted by an employee as soon as I walked through the door and helped me to contact the correct employee at the right area for getting my product, which I did quickly.

I used to have Netgear Wireless N300 before upgrading to Nighthawk. It's a day and night difference between the two. X4S supports simultaneous data download/transfers to 3 devices. That's an important factor for me as we have about 8-10 devices (Phones, laptops, Smart TVs, Xbox, PS) connected all the time. The signal reception is really great. I get top speed (70Mbps) even in the garage with router sitting in the first floor bed room corner. I can now throw away all the powerline adapters and signal amplifiers. It is a waste of money and you better spend that on getting X4S.I looked around lot of reviews and narrowed down to Asus and Netgear, finally settling down with X4S due to its reliability and durability. For me, main decisive factors were signal strength/speed supporting multiple devices simultaneously and NAS support.

What's a "tri-band" router? In extremely rudimentary, lay terms, the Nighthawk has the strength of three routers. It can handle three times the number of connections a single-band router ever could (presumably), yet all the devices are able to "see" one another and play nice together. So, yeah, it's expensive. It's quite possible, in fact, that you don't really even need a tri-band router.And then there's us.I just walked through our apartment; between my husband and me, I count 25 web-enabled devices. That number doesn't include light bulbs. Most of these gadgets are connected to the Internet *at this moment.*Our friends make fun of us because we have totally embraced the concept of the "Internet of Things." Besides the usual gadgets (iPads, phones, game consoles), we use a Nest thermostat, a Nest Cam, Philips Hue bulbs, an Amazon Echo on our kitchen countertop, and a Sonos.Far from automating our home, we've instead created a TON of headaches for ourselves. We live in a waking nightmare. The "Internet of Things" is here, and it's miserable.But by far the biggest hassle has been the simple fact that our trusty old Linksys router just could not handle the workload. When you have this many gadgets and gizmos connected to the 'net, it's pretty easy to bring the whole home infrastructure down. And when the wireless is down, there goes your fancy Sonos-equipped stereo, your home security, your thermostat.After a couple years of frustration, my husband and I agreed to go with a beefier router. At that point, we didn't care if we paid through the nose for one. Initially we went with a top pick from Wirecutter (which is a tech review site that is almost always right about everything). And, not to disparage Wirecutter here, but the router we ended up with was EVEN MORE MISERABLE. Maybe we just had too much stuff connected to it? We tweaked the router's settings, upgraded its firmware, downgraded it again, and ultimately returned it after maybe a weekโ€”and we rarely return anything, okay.Desperate, I took to the Internet for advice. About a jillion of my friends (all of whom work in tech) endorsed the Netgear Nighthawk without reservation. It was almost unanimous. A lot of folks were really passionate about this! So I overnighted one.Twenty-five devices connected simultaneously? No problem. In the month+ that we've had a Nighthawk, it hasn't needed to be restarted once. It lives in a closet. I never look at it. I don't even know it's here. I'm sure the UI is terrible but I've rarely needed to use it, since it worked out-of-the-box. We live in a city, halfway up a high-rise building, and we can still get a signal from downstairs on the street. Beat that.Sitting here, I just ran a speed test, and on my wireless connection I'm getting 58.37 Mbps download speedsโ€”not too shabby, considering we pay for 50. (Never mind there are literally 200 other wireless routers in our building!) I barely remember that Netflix and Hulu used to stutter and stagger. Multiplayer gaming connections don't drop or lag. Great stuff.Anything more than $100 is a HUGE investment in a router, I feel; anything non-commercial over $200 is probably criminal. But the Netgear Nighthawk really works for us, especially when literally nothing else would do. For that alone, it's worth it.I hope I don't need to buy another router for many years.

After one month, still working fine.

After one month, this is still going strong. Had no problems setting up. The only difficulty was with Comcast technical help. We both spoke English but not with the same dialect or understanding. Posed some communication problems. Simple to install but be sure and register the MAC number with Comcast if you purchase a modem instead of renting. Finding the correct person to speak with IS A PROBLEM!
Gives me good speed with Comcast, but doesn't feel very durable

It gives me 170 Mbsc speed with my Comcast 150 Mbsc plan. It doesn't feel durable item compare to the Motorola Modem I used before. I would not have changed from Motorola Modem, but it only gave me 90 Mbsc speed (older model). My Motorola modem lasted me 7 years and still no problems (other then the speed)I doubt very much that this modem will last even half the time my Motorola modem lasted

It's a modem. The one I had was no longer approved by my cable provider. What I like is that it has an off-button; what I don't like is that it gets very hot. Set-up was easy enough, and several months later it's still working.

This wasn't difficult to set up and is working with our TimeWarner equipment. I was confused at first because instructions (and phone number) are included for Comcast, but as soon as I realized that our service was TWC and not Comcast I was able to call and have them activate the Modem. I haven't noticed an increase in speed, but this modem is listed as faster service than the one we were upgrading from. That is a fault of TWC not the modem though. All in all the modem was not difficult to set up and was working within half an hour of me taking it from the box.
Overheating issue

I've only had this modem activated for a couple of days. So far, when the lights are all green and it is working, it's perfect. Fast speeds (even faster than what I'm paying for), stable connection, etc. The problem I seem to be having is that it will all of sudden just show the red power light on only. The manual indicates that it's overheating. Seriously? It was on for no more than 12 hours. The modem is standing upright in open air. It doesn't turn off with the power button either, have to unplug the power and plug it back in. It's done it twice so far in a less than 24 hour period. I have it reset to factory settings currently to see how it'll fair. But if it overheats again, I'm returning this.edit: 3/14/16So I got a new replacement. There is no longer an overheating issue as far as I could tell. The unit also runs a lot cooler than the defective one. I have had it installed for the last 3 days. It did, reset a couple of times on the second day, but have since stopped. I'm unsure if that happened due to TWC though. The logs suggest that at least 2 of the resets was because of them. But that day experienced a large number of resets for some reason. Seems perfect again, but will keep monitoring it. I have upgraded it to 4 stars. It would be 5 if it stays reset free.Like the original unit, when it works. It's great. Pretty much a set it and forget it deal. It's also great that the LEDs are not blindingly bright like ARRIS units. There are a ton of holes for venting. On the ARRIS modems, the holes are pretty much on one long side and the 2 short sides. The heat seems to be concentrated on the top half of the unit. I just wished that they could have made the modem so that you could have it laid horizontally.
Great modem but gets extremely HOT

This modem was a black Friday purchase. Before I start my quick list of credentials are: I work from home (so it gets a lot of use) and in IT security. With that said I was getting tired of Comcast throttling my speeds during certain hours of the day and night, so I purchased this modem to attempt to by pass them all together. I pay for 105 down and definitely wasn't getting that. Now my modem and router are on the 3rd floor and I work on the second floor. I know the router is one main cause of speed issues however 24 down is unacceptable in my eyes and when I ran the speed test next to the router it was only around 40ish.So enter my new Netgear modem. My new speed tests on the 3rd floor (next to the router is about 70 to 80 down and about 15 up. On the second floor where I work (just ran a speed test as I am writing this review / See pictures attached) I am getting 63.68 down and 10.26 up; which is a HUGE improvement from using the Comcast modem.Again my router is getting old and am looking to buy a new one soon, however the huge difference in speeds between this Netgear modem and the Comcast one are painstakingly clear. Oh and for you gamers that use a direct connection (I direct connect my Xbox one into LAN port 1) when I ran a speed test though the Xbox it showed 122 down (which is higher than I am paying for).I have to say that I do love it but there is a few concerns. Review notes below:Pros:-Very noticeable speed increase from Comcast Modem-Install went quickly. Called Comcast, gave them (if I remember correctly) the MAC and serial number on the modem and I was up and running within minutes.Cons:-My one and only major concern is how HOT it gets. I am not sure if this is normal for this modem and I still need to contact netgear about this. When I say hot; I don't mean warm to the touch, I mean borderline that I am worried the components are melting / fusing together on the inside. This is why I only give it 4 stars and not 5Hope this review helped and I will try to answer any questions you all have.

Great router with some reservations

I don't have any 60 GHz 802.11ad devices to test with, but even on 802.11ac 5 GHz, this router is ridiculously fast. With FiOS Gigabit, this is basically THE perfect router. Make sure you download the latest firmware so you can take advantage of Dynamic QoS, which prevents bufferbloat from slowing down your Internet connection by buffering too much data (which can hurt your ping, making VoIP, streaming video or gaming virtually impossible when the downlink or uplink is 100% utilized).I'd say the combination of high performance and Dynamic QoS makes this the best router out there today for Ethernet and 802.11ac WiFi. The range, speed and reliability of the WiFi is awesome; it works perfectly in the basement on my Macbook Pro with the router on my desk two floors above! I've never owned a router that could do that before. It's very configurable even with the stock firmware (fully patched, of course).As much as I love this product, however, I can't give it 5 stars for two reasons:1. The firmware is, and has always been (according to other users), BUGGY as all get-out. The bugs are so severe that this router is just barely stable enough to be usable for daily use with the latest firmware, and there have been several older firmwares in the past that were basically garbage and would not work for 99% of users. The latest firmware, 1.0.2.40, is OK if you disable "DoS protection", which sounds like a pretty bad thing to disable for security reasons, but it seems to be cutting off local computers that are just using a lot of data. So the router firmware is going "OMG, you are DoSing me!!" when it's just you downloading a big file. LOL. This anti-feature makes the router more-or-less unusable until disabling this setting.2. The price point is outrageous for a router. For $500, you should be putting an Intel Core i3 full-fat desktop processor in this thing, not some wimpy Broadcom MIPS SoC. This router is expected to handle moving LOTS of data, and it does (barely) live up to expectations in that regard, but what you're getting in terms of raw hardware power for what you paid is pretty anemic. They should really switch to high-end ARM64 SoCs at a minimum, if not Intel x86-64 desktop processors, if they're pricing these things at such a luxury price. The CPU speed limitations might come into play if you are simultaneously downloading or uploading files with the built-in PLEX file server and also gaming or transferring data over the Internet.I have a feeling that common tasks like big downloads over Gigabit Internet connections are running this Broadcom chip about as hard as it can go, meaning that it is able to live up to expectations, but only just... it wouldn't take much more to push it over the edge. If some ISP is later offering faster than gigabit speeds, or if you try to take advantage of the Port Aggregation feature to get 2 Gbps speeds on one computer, I bet it would fall over (the CPU would get over-saturated with work and start to chug along, greatly increasing pings and making everyone's experience bad).I'm fine with a $100 or even a $250 router going anemic on hardware, but for $500 (and no screen or Touch ID or cellular baseband like a phone), this should at least be competitive in performance with an Apple A10 Fusion chip, and it's nowhere close to that I'm sure, because it has only 2 cores and a clock speed around 800 MHz. Give us some horsepower, Netgear! Some real horsepower. Let's see what an enthusiast router could do with a 28W Intel chip!

Great performance, not so great documentationThe router works great. Doubled performance on networked PCs and smartphones. However, the documentation and software are still not exceptional. I burned an hour before figuring out that after I unplugged the old router, I had to power down the Comcast cable modem before the router's auto-discovery would work and let me proceed with configuration. Duh. Netgear could have helped by pointing that one out. This is supposed to be CONSUMER gear and not require a network engineer to get it "up and running"!

Like most reviewers I am not that impressed with the interface for this device. It is more difficult to navigate for people who are familiar with the functions of a Router and plays very much to the average buyer, which wouldnt be a bad thing for most people. But for people who want to manipulate a lot of functionality you are going to have to look around a bit more than some routers. having said that I gave the device 4 stars because it is just fantastic in it's range and signal strength. I replaced a 3 year old D-Link because we were getting wifi dead spots, dropped streaming video, slow wired connections and hard to connect and stay connected phones and tablets. This Router solved them all. Every device works beautifully now and the Rokus we have connect rock solid and never drop a signal. I live on a 1/2 acre and can go outside to the end of my lot (on a nice day) and still connect my phone or laptop. i get a great signal even through walls and floors. This was just the remedy I was looking for.Update - 5/11/17 after just a couple months this turned into a $200 brick. The wired connections on the router stopped working. All of the ports are dead. The wireless till works and it is pretty good still but all of the Wired ports stopped working. It seems to be a fairly common problem and has no fix.
Great unit for home users. Fast and easy to set up.

UPDATE (12-23-2016): Netgear has released a new firmware update to address the security flaw. Applying this is just a matter of connecting to the URL for your router. You should see a "firmware update available" button. Click on that button and follow the prompts. Note that this will reboot your router and take down your internet for about 3-5 minutes.I see a lot of posts where folks have connectivity issues. I have used Netgear products for over 15 years, and I find them to be a great value for the functionality and the performance. What I have determined on most of their products is that sometimes you get a defective product that simply needs to be returned and swapped out. The problem now is the wait time if you try to contact Netgear by phone. I was on hold for almost two hours for another Netgear product that I had just purchased, and I ended up getting hung up on. I opted to just return the device and get another one, and the new device is working flawlessly. My point here is, for the money, Netgear is probably your best option, but understand there are some caveats.That said, this unit (AC1900) is performing flawlessly. I have wireless connections of over 750Mbps. My internet connection went from 22-34 Mbps (out of what was supposed to be 100) to 117 Mbps.This unit is not designed for IT professionals, but rather for home users who just need to set passwords, SSIDs, block a few sites, set some reservations, etc with a graphical point-and-click method. For this, it is well-designed. It also has a guest network that allows you to provide Internet-only access to friends and relatives without giving access to your personal devices such as laptops and printers. The USB drive feature is very useful, and I would encourage using this to perform network-based backups (Windows users, search for backup and restore app on Windows 7, 8, and 10. This enables you to create a complete, scheduled backup and restore solution in the event of a hardware failure).IT professionals (I am one) may find a lack of security features such as blocking specific ports and setting unique (something other than "admin) login credentials. My response to that may be to add a wired firewall between the AC1900 and my cable modem. I just replaced a Juniper SSG for this as the unit was over 8 years old and lacked support due to end-of-life. Replacement cost would have been over $700 plus annual maintenance. For under $200, this unit is performing well, and I am very happy with it.Note that there is a current advisory on a vulnerability with this unit's current firmware, but it would require one visit a malicious website to be affected. Until a new firmware is released, I would be cautious about visiting sites that are unfamiliar.Overall, I rated this a 4 due to the vulnerability and the poor customer response time, but the unit itself is performing very well.

I bought the AC 1900 to replace my aging cisco router that I liked, but was not able to keep up with data-hungry million devices trying to connect to it. Of note, this router is similar to the R6900 version available in Costco, with some minor firmware differences and the fact that this one (R7000) available on amazon and elsewhere has 2 USB ports instead of 1 on the 6900.Setting up the router was easy and within 15 minutes of unboxing, I had my multiple devices connected to it. I manually configured it, but there is a set-up wizard available (along with a phone app) for ease of use. The device broadcasts in 2.5 & 5.0 GHz frequencies, so you will see your network under 2 Skids. You can of course choose only 1 frequency if you like or use what netgear calls "smart network" which will broadcast only one SSID and let your devices connect to 2.5 or 5 GHz based on their capability.Signal strength from the router is really good and you can expect decent signal everywhere in a medium sized home. For the tech savvy, it does have openvpn support and you can also overwrite the firmware with dd-wrt. Check out YouTube for tutorials on how to do this.You can connect USB drives or external hard drives (USB) for making your files easily available on your entire network. This is especially useful for accessing your files from mobile devices. The data rates are great and hence you can actually stream movies on your network without any lag from your connected drives just as if the file was available locally on your device.The WiFi connection speeds I get are a significant step up, coming from my previous router, on the same Internet plan. Thus far, I have not seen any connection drops with this router.The main downside I see is the pricepoint. For its current non-sale price, there are several other routers (notably tp-link) which have similar features at a lower price. Consider checking them out as well.I cannot comment on netgear customer support since I haven't had to contact them thus far. There are some negative reviews around about that...so might be a consideration if you anticipate a need to contact them for set up or tech support or other such things.Overall, I think this is a great product, somewhat overpriced, but one that works well.

Loved it for the first 2 months. Then suddenly I started to have troubles. It disconnected and nothing I did could get either the direct wire or the wireless back. Finally, a factory reset fixed it. But then when I put my SSID and password back in, I started to have problems again after a few days. After endless cycles of power off and factory resets, I called support. I did get connected very quickly. I spent an hour on the phone and about 5 times was asked to do exactly what I had done before calling. Of course none of his "troubleshooting" was any different or better than my own, and finally I had to hang up. At that point we had done a factory reset and it was working. After a week it was still working, so I decided to tempt fate and put back the SSID and password of my choice. It worked for about 1 day, and then lost all connections again. Back to tech support. Again I spent an hour with them, and again was asked to do the same mindless troubleshooting. I finally lost it and said I was not, under any circumstances, going to do a poweroff and factory reset again. The rep put me on hold, and after a few minutes came back and told me that we had exhaused all troubleshooting suggestions and they issued me a return. Great. But, be warned... For a free replacement, you must first return your existing router. When they receive it, they will send you a new one. Time without wireless internet, about 2 weeks. If you choose, they will send the new one and you will have 10 days to return the old one. For this "priviledge", be prepared to pay them about 18 bucks I think it was. I chose this option because the factory reset and default SSID and password seemed to never have connection problems. Or, for "premium" service, pay them about $40 I think for them to ship it the next day.So all of this sucks, but I really like the range, speed, and features of this router. I'm hoping this one will last and function like it should. I know that sometimes things just go wrong. But if this one starts having troubles and because of the trouble above and the return policy, I will likely consider another company.

Initial setup is very easy. Getting it to work flawlessly is a different story. I'm not an IT tech, but I had to fuss with the IP settings to get it to work on all my devices. It is quite fast once the kinks are worked out. I would not recommend this for the tech challenged buyer.

when it worked it was ok able to provide full and above speeds of my COX 300/30 connection. however it had a couple of occasional freezes since bought 2 months ago. And went completely dead 2 days ago.Just to inform it never overheated or never slowed down. Thanks to Amazon the replacement unit is on it's way. Just hoping that the new unit won't have the same issue, otherwise I am done with Netgear

If you're like me and just looking to replace your Comcast modem this will do the trick. A few complaints. The interface for the actual modem is not the easiest to navigate, find, or use. My next complaint is heat. The thing gets hot. Real hot. I'm not sure why but it does. When I say hot by the way, I mean you can't touch certain parts of it or the coax cable input without getting a mild burn. If you want something that works go ahead and get it, if you want something that works great, looks great, and is more user friendly then you're going to want to keep looking.

I'm not sure. For some reason I keep having to reset the modem. Like a lot! I have always had netgear products with much less hassle than this modem.

I had a Motorola SB6121 4 channel cable modem but my internet service is 8 channel so I decided to upgrade.I first purchased an Arris/Motorola SB6183 but returned it because the lights were too bright and also seem to have issues that I think were related to it being overly sensitive to line conditions.Bought the Netgear CM600 to couple with a Nighthawk x8 router and I couldn't be more happy. I am getting about an 8 percent improvement in speed when compared to the SB6183 and there have been no issues at all. It just seems faster and smoother at loading web pages now.It is more expensive than the Arris/Motorola SB6183 but I highly recommend it.UPDATE: I have had this modem now for 3 months and it has now started in the last 2 weeks to slow down to under 10mbps until I reboot it. I have only had to do this twice but I never had to do this with my Motorola SB6121. I don't want to change to the Arris/Motorola SB6183 because of the lights but I may have to if this continues to be a problem

This is a case of "it depends". Because depending on how you use it, it could be great, or a bit of a miss. In our case, it was a miss. This router is capable of delivering great speeds wired or wireless. Our home is a little over 4,100 sq. ft. and we did not have good coverage at the further corners of our house, the Apple Airport Extreme it as replacing was better in the range department, and it too was inadequate. The gripes come from our use case, I knew we were pushing the range, an extender would have solved for that. But the tri-band is not all that useful for people who use an Echo. Echo's are never on the fastest band, I don't think their Wi-fi supports it. So if you have tri-band enabled your smart phones, tablets, and computers can't talk to it. The more and more wi-fi devices you have enabled the more this becomes an issue, so we switched it to single band, so thing could all talk, and our speed dropped noticeably. We have a lot of devices on our network, 20-25, and it really seemed to bring this router to a halt. Another HUGE miss from Netgear is the admin panel, it is literally unchanged from the first netgear router I purchased in the early 2000's, it's HORRIBLE by current standards. We replaced it with the new Google Mesh network, 3 pucks, and every single complaint is gone. The Google routers are FANTASTIC, if you have a larger home, or want a great admin panel that is fast, easy, and almost enjoyable, then check out the Google Router.

Main issues were access via DIRECT LAn connection to unit. It was not easy to get to. We could connect wirelessly through their App, but that wouldn't let us update f/w. That procedure took hours (even after downloading it from their network). I asked for help twice, and they made me change lots of settings, but nothing seemed to work, so I gave up.it works fine and has a fairly good range - much better than the substandard one we were using from Comcast (which was a combined modem & WiFi router). Still having issues connecting a separate WiFi router in another part of the house to be on the same network as this, but maybe it's an issue with the other router.Not a bad price and fairly good performance.

Decided to cut the Spectrum strings. I have been using a cable company provided router/modem combo for years. I hooked this router to SB6183 SURFboard modem and for the first few hours everything went as expected. At first, the signal strength across long distances was pretty amazing especially in the 2.4 GHZ band. After about 10-12 hours my PC upstairs started losing signal strength. A speedtest which initially showed 60 Mbps down and 15 Mbps up had fallen to approximately 20 down and 0 up... yes that's right ZERO. I did a soft reset on the router, rebooted the PC, tried another 2.4 GHZ device in the same location, but nothing fixed except a hard reset of the router by unplugging and re plugging. Everything was back to normal until the next day. Same thing again. During all of this, I could move my laptop near the router and all was well. Move it upstairs about 20 feet away and it would flake out. I started searching online and found several people with the same issue. The fix was to roll back to a much older firmware, reset the settings to factory default and then set everything up again. I did this about a week ago and everything has been perfect since! If you are thinking of purchasing this, please do an internet search for R7500v2 dropping wireless or R7500v2 losing wireless. The firmware that had the issue was Firmware Version 1.0.3.10 and Firmware Version 1.0.3.4. The firmware that fixed is Firmware Version 1.0.0.28. The router really is amazing with the older firmware. I am amazed at how far the signal carries.6/17 Update - Had interference issue. Had to set 2.4 GHZ band to channel 11.

It's very fast, which is probably the reason you're buying this in the first place, and hits a nice price point compared to the more expensive netgear routers.Physically its actually quite a bit larger than you'd expect. It looks like a spider and the antennas turn out to be quite fragile.The software is mediocre but on par with all of the other consumer routers' firmware. It's easily upgradeable to dd-wrt or Tomato however. However, if you're a power user and you're not interested in running either of those, you might want to check out something else, maybe a ubiquiti.

Bought this to replace a failing D-Link DIR-655 I was happy with for several years. The proliferation of network devices (TVs, phones, tablets, game consoles, thermostat, lights, etc.) started to overload it anyway - wanted something that could easily 50 network devices.The hardware is excellent - coverage is outstanding, handles lots of devices with ease. 5GHz range is best in class - the router is in my basement utility room and I get a decent 5GHz signal three floors up.However, I started having strange issues with the network. Netflix and other streaming video, as well as PS4 remote play, would work fine for ten or fifteen minutes, then die. Figured out the issue was linked to the QoS setting, so it was clearly firing for some reason (perhaps it mis-measured my bandwidth - there are no settings for it, I have 150Mbps so it shouldn't have been an issue) and killing those connections. Turning off QoS made Netflix more stable, but it would still occasionally drop. DLNA service was unreliable. Wireless connections would drop and reset. ReadySHARE would drop the connected storage constantly. Rebooting the router would make everything work again for a few hours. The firmware was up to date, found lots of users with similar issues on the Netgear forums with no response.Finally I'd had enough and decided to try DD-WRT and see if that worked better (I had never installed custom router firmware before). Every single issue I had went away and I now love the router - lots of compute power to spare for running all kinds of nifty services and reliably handles all my devices. Rock solid stability, haven't rebooted in weeks.Clearly, good hardware, bad firmware. 5 star hardware, 1 star software == 3 stars.Buy it for the hardware, get rid of the Netgear firmware ASAP, at least until they decide to support it.
Unreliable USB 3.0

My current WIFI router had sufficient range, but I figured I could upgrade my network and considered that many of the other features of this router would be nice to have. Ultimately I knew that it was a little more router than I really need right now, but I figured the ability to add a USB 3.0 port (via gigabyte LAN) to my 2011 Mac Mini made future proofing my network a no brainer. However, I was very disappointed with the results. An external hard drive connected to the router's USB 3.0 port and wired via gigabyte LAN to my Mini was unstable and inconsistent. I experienced unreliable connection speeds, and the router created permissions errors on the drives that were accessed over it. I tested it with two hard drives and two enclosures. Both drives that I used for testing had to be wiped clean to fix all the issues this router created on them. Also, the Netgear website says this router should support most dual bay enclosures as long as they have an external power supply, but after searching forums I did not find that anyone was able to get two drives mounted at the same time from it. The USB 3.0 port only supports mounting one drive at a time, regardless of whether or not the drive is bus powered. This is a very powerful router, but I was extremely disappointed with the USB 3.0 port implementation and felt that the Netgear website intentionally mislead me about the functionality of dual bay enclosures. I decided to return it, and I bought a used Kanex thunderbolt to USB 3.0 connector for my Mini and found a real cheap 5th generation Airport Extreme used (yeah, it's no r7000 with dt-wrt, but it's really sufficient for what I need right now). So in the end, I spent half as much money, and in a short time I'll probably want to upgrade again- but everything will be cheaper and better then anyway...

Unable to get to the full administration menu. When logging into the modem, the full menu flashes then shrinks down to a few minimally useful items. I need to get to the full menu to set up port forwarding but unable to get to the appropriate menu selection. I have not contacted support yet but will do so when time permits.

No manual, the last version device is all the information they provide. It seems to work but it isn't really supported by Time Warner Spectrum. They said they won't configure it for ipv6. I have no noticeable improvement over my last generation modem. I suggest buying the cm400 at least you get documentation.

Bought to avoid the10$ a month rental fee from my internet provider. I have been having connection problems since I bought it, sometimes it just does not have an internet connection even though the internet light on the modem is on. Ive never had this type of problem it all started since I've been using this modem.I called the cable company and there not showing nothing wrong on there end.

This modem seemed like a good deal and was listed as compatible with my cable provider (Cox). After 4 hours on the phone with Cox technicians, we could not get this unit to work. Not sure if I had a bad unit or if something else was going on. I will be trying the Arris brand next since my previous modem was an Arris and lasted 10 years without issues.Update 10-6-16. I purchased a ARRIS SURFboard SB6190 and plugged in this evening. The Cox technicians were able to see and reboot this unit immediately. It came back online and I was good to go. I will leave my 2 star rating for the NetGear Modem since there was obviously something wrong with it or it was not compatible.
Not reliable for more than a few months

The cable modem was mostly fine for the first few months. Recently (5 mo later) it has started to fail. The lights will usually indicate a good connection but it doesn't work. After I power cycle it it will work again until the next time it fails. It has been failing more frequently. It started failing once a week, then twice a week, then once a day. I just had to reset it twice this afternoon.I want a cable modem that I don't have to fiddle with. Replacing it with a different brand.

If you're looking to buy this because you think you'll throw DD-WRT onto it or any other aftermarket firmware, DON'T. I got the R6700 v2, which is NOT compatible with DD-WRT. So that's out the window already.Okay, that being said, I do not use the routing capability. I use this as a Wireless Access Point, and the routing capabilities I leave up to my cablemodem/router combination that came from Time Warner/Spectrum.The signal with this works fine, and setup worked the way I wanted. The setup/firmware/interface is poorly designed though. Changes can take a while to save.My biggest complaint with the r6700 v2 is that the ReadyShare USB 3 drive access is EXTREMELY slow with my external USB hard drive that is formatted with NTFS. Note that this is likely not isolated to this router, but is in fact a universal problem with many, if not all, of Netgear's routers. At least that's what my Googling has seemed to reveal. Netgear ReadyShare + USB hard drive formatted in NTFS is going to be slow.And by slow, I mean VERY slow... to the point that your videos might not stream properly. I cap out around 5 MB/s copying a file from the ReadyShare network share. For reference, that same hard drive connected directly to my USB 3 port on my laptop can yield well over 70MB/s.So, like I said, I'm disappointed.

Giving Netgear 2/5 - Their support is a joke !Router itself is a great piece of equipment, awesome speed, web interface has great setting selection. Recently, I changed from Comcast to Charter because I moved and this thing would not connect to the cable modem for the life of me. I am pretty savvy as I work in IT, so finally frustrated enough, I called Netgear. Bottom line was no help without forking over bundles of cash. After 90 days from your purchase date, tech support is done with. Netgear wants to charge the following if you would like their help after 90 days: $269 / 2-years, $199 1-year, or $69 for a one time case. The ENTIRE UNIT COST ME $159 !!! I finally figured it out after hours on Google that the default MAC address for the router was wrong. Unless you have network experience.. maybe try something else.
Not Great With Apple

I struggled getting the Netgear to work with my Apple devices. I found (via Google) that this is a pretty common issue. The router worked great when it assigned IP addresses. However, it often would not assign an IP. I ended up having to return it and buy a Linksys, which worked perfectly out of the box.
Great at first. Problems at 3 months. Dead at 6 months.

The NETGEAR Nighthawk X4S - AC2600 (R7800) router was great at first. Very fast, great signal strength on both 2.4 a 5 GHz, and user-friendly interface. After 3 months, the router started to drop connection. It was only once a day initially, but became so frequent over the next month that it was happening every 10 to 15 minutes. I upgraded to the latest firmware and it seemed to take care of the problem, as no more drops occurred during the next two months. However, this morning I was online and all the sudden my laptop was no longer connected to the internet. I looked at the router and noticed that the only LED light on was for eSATA, but I've never had anything plugged into the eSata port. I tried restarting the router but again only the eSATA light turned on. I tried to connect to the router via network cable and the port LED did turn on, but I could not connect to the router configuration settings to reset it. As a last resort, I pushed and held the Reset pin on the back of the router for 15 - 20 seconds but absolutely nothing happened. I tried several more times by pushing in the Reset pin for different durations (from 5 seconds to over 30 seconds) but the router would never reset.So, 6 months after purchasing this router for over $200 the thing is dead. I called Netgear and spoke with Cherry, who was surprisingly kind and quick to help begin the process of replacing the router under warranty. We'll see how that turns out, but for right now, I've gone back to my 8 year old trusty and reliable Netgear WNDR-3700 router. Glad I didn't throw it out when I replaced it with the Nighthawk X4S - AC2600.I'll update this review after I receive a replacement of my defective router.
Decent Options - WiFi for Media Terrible - Poor Security

Starting with the 4 stars as I just purchased and installed the Nighthawk. It is larger than I thought it would be and looks like a crazy spaceship. The antenna are pretty neat being able to adjust them at various angles. The set up was a super breeze and took me all of like 3 minutes. The setup will highly depend on your home network though. You can set a couple different SSIDs and while you can set the address and DHCP, the DHCP modifications are limited. You can set reservations for devices already attached and set static reservations with a MAC address but no reserving part of the scope. You can set the scope which helps a little. The wireless signal is really good and all my home devices connected perfectly. I also use it with Cox cable and they work perfectly together. The options are good and so far, a nice little home based space ship. Not sure it was worth $277.00 BUT only time will tell.Update 2/2/2015: so far, this little space ship has provided awesome connections for every device in my house. I unbound the two 5g radios so I could provide AC to my media PC and it worked perfectly. Every other device being A/AC/N/B/G or wired have all connected successfully. I have two desktops and a NAS connected via wired while everything else is wireless. The wireless security is okay being able to use WPA2 however, there is no built in firewall. I would like to be able to block ingress and egress but the security is limited. You can block some sites or addresses but not very advanced. Still not sure this is worth the almost $300.00 price tag BUT it is cool, looks awesome and provides great connections.Update 5/8/2015: So far this little UFO has been rock solid! No more issues with duplicate addresses and every device has been able to connect successfully. The throughput is pretty awesome as well. The home media PC is connected wireless and can download a 6gb movie in just a few minutes, the home NAS is connected wired and stores all movies/TV shows and also plays perfectly. Great connections, wish there was a built in firewall.Update 2/22/16:Started seeing issues with duplicate addresses being provided via DHCP. Unable to set reservations for various wireless and now seeing internet drops. A recent firmware update may be part of this but the issues started before the upgrade. Very disappointing especially for the cost and design. May contact Netgear to check in possible solutions.Update: 5/20/16Unfortunately, I will be replacing this with a 5300, most likely ASUS. While all wireless devices connect fine, the biggest issue is streaming media. For the longest time I thought the issue was my NAS or even corrupt files but turns out its the wireless. Tablets and such are more forgiving but not so with movies or TV shows. I found the issue with a wireless sniffer and doing large file transfers. There is some interference at times however, even with what looks to be no interference I get drastically random speeds which causes media to play poorly or not at all. No wonder Kodi had issues. Sooo very disappointed....

I wouldn't normally start off a review with an autobiography but for a device like this - especially considering what I'm going to say about it - I think it's important information for the review reader to have.I've been in network engineering for almost 20 years and have been designing networks for Fortune 10 companies for the past decade. I've sold, used, configured, and even helped design networking devices in both my professional and personal life. I've used a half dozen different brands over the years here in my home but I've been a loyal Netgear customer for about 6 years. I've also been an active participant in Netgear consumer beta testing and a couple of the Netgear devices you see on Amazon today are the result of input from myself and others. I've had a very productive relationship with Netgear and they've been very good to me during that time.My first impression of this router was simply "wow". The 5Ghz range on this unit was easily 20% better than both the Netgear WNDR3700 and the Asus RT-N66U. There were places in my house where I couldn't get a reliable 5Ghz connection before that now had superb coverage. The R7000 was instantly worth the money. I have approximately 35 devices on my network with two external Access Points hard-wired to the router. Total throughput increased slightly on the entire network but since I don't have any 802.11ac clients, I couldn't push the router to see what kind of max throughput I could get.There's not really much more I can say than that. Like most of the Netgear routers I've used before, it took about 10 minutes to configure and after that everything just worked. I don't have to worry about interference (closest neighboring network is at least 2 miles away). I don't use the USB/NAS/Media server functions (which have been unreliable on several Netgear models).Unfortunately, about 3 days in, my kids started telling me they couldn't print. I did a couple of days of troubleshooting and I tried defaulting and reconfiguring the printer. Normally, my kids are connected to one of the APs. If I connected them directly to the R7000 wirelessly, they could print again. The only thing that fixed the problem was rebooting the router.Without going into exhaustive detail, here is what I found:1. Multiple online reports of people intermittently losing connectivity to wireless printers (HP, Canon, or in my case, Epson)2. Printer wasn't the only problem. While connected directly via wireless to the R7000, I couldn't connect to other wired devices.3. After much online discussion with other users, it appears that wired and wireless devices are losing the ability to see each other after some period of runtime.4. When the problem appears, wireless devices connected to the R7000 appear in the WIRED section of the "attached devices" screen.5. Rebooting the problem ALWAYS fixes the issue. Within 48 hours or so after the reboot, the problem re-appears.This nagging issue isn't a showstopper but it is frustrating. What happened next is ultimately why I'm only giving this router 2 stars.After 2 weeks of working on the issue, I opened a case with Netgear. Here I am 5 weeks, 11 phone calls, 158 emails, and SIX beta firmware revisions later and the problem isn't solved.I really don't know where to start with what I used to consider one of the best customer support departments I've ever dealt with.They don't communicate internally and they're extremely disorganized. Several times, I gave them debug and packet capture info that they were going to "send to the engineers". To date, I have received ZERO feedback on any of the information I have sent them. Several times, I had to update my ticket multiple times with the same information because they rotate support techs by shift and they weren't reading the tickets before contacting me. Several times, they would tell me to try things via email, even though I had already told another tech on the phone that I had tried it.When Netgear agrees to allow you to test beta firmware, they want you to sign an NDA. Previously, this was always done electronically via their website. One quarter of the way into this process, they changed to a generic paper agreement which you had to physically sign and FAX or scan and email back. Fairly standard practice in the industry except that they DON'T KEEP THEM ON FILE. It's a generic NDA and should cover any and all beta testing for the term of the agreement but no. Every time they wanted me to test a new beta firmware I had to download, print, sign, scan, and then email them a new copy of the SAME generic NDA with a different date on it.As I mentioned before I gathered volumes of troubleshooting information for Netgear. The only feedback I ever received was "here try this new firmware and see if it works". I never once had anybody say "we've isolated this in the lab" or "we're working on a fix". They have been throwing darts the entire time. Not only that but they asked me to do things like gather packet captures with Wireshark. They knew full well that these packet captures were going to be large files (one of them was over 600MB) but they provided me no mechanism to actually SEND THEM. Their web tool is currently the only way to send them a file and the file size limit is 10MB. They refused to provide me with a Netgear FTP site to upload them and asked me to upload them to two different PUBLIC file sharing services, knowing that these packet captures could contain information like my WPA2 pre-shared keys and potentially some clear text internal LAN passwords. I agreed to setup an FTP server on my own time so that they could download them from me with the request that they download them promptly and let me know when they were done so I could shut it down (I don't want to allow open, always-on access from the outside world). They did neither. After 2 days of not hearing from them, I shut down the FTP server, opened a DropBox account, and sent them the files. That was the last I ever heard about it.The real kicker is this - Netgear has a long-standing reputation of releasing firmware updates slowly and for a limited amount of time. Generally, a new device gets firmware updates about every 2 months or so, for maybe a little over a year, so each devices ends up with around 4 to 5 firmware updates before they stop development. While this has never been a problem for me in the past, I'm growing concerned that this device could be the first. They've published 3 release firmware revisions to date and they have yet to even prove to themselves this problem exists, let alone fix it. At this rate, the R7000v2 will be out before the problems are fixed and people with this first gen model still having problems will be out of luck.Bottom line - this router is a performance monster. If you happen to be a lucky one and get a unit that doesn't have any issues, you're going to be VERY happy I would imagine. However, if you're not one of the lucky ones, you have a decision to make - live with the little nagging issues or try something else. I am simply floored at how bad Netgear's support has gotten. Despite my long-standing relationship with them, I will be hard-pressed to buy another Netgear product anytime soon.

Total garbage. We purchased it in May because our old modem was freezing and stalling. In 4 months this unit is worse, and of course the warranty is up and trying to reach a human being at Netgear is like the search for the holy grail. I will not purchase anything from Netgear again. If I could give it no stars I would.

This has not been working since it arrived last month. I contacted Netgear "support", and the representative barely spoke any English. She was very unhelpful, and did not understand. In the end she asked me to submit proof of purchase and that they would reach out to me after receiving it. Weeks later I am still waiting.
Don't do it - but I need to reboot the modem before I can post!!!

I have been a prime member for years. On confirmation with Netgear phone help that this item was defective I was offered a replacement. BUT to receive the replacement before the defective unit was returned I would be charged 30.00. I paid. The new unit is no better. The drop outs are just as bad and the reboot process is maddingly consistent all day. Of course I'll eat the cost and fund a better unit. AND see just how on the ball Amazons algorithms are at sussing out this kind of complaint. Avoid Netgear and enjoy a movie, on me.
Less than a year old and it's dead

Really bummed. I purchased this less than a year ago, and this morning, it just stopped working.Unplugged and reconnected and it's utterly dead.
Died in six weeks, replacement in two !

Died in six weeks and AMAZON HAS A FOUR weeks warranty. The second one(replacement ) died with deferent symptoms TWO weeks later. I ordered the Motorola. The previous Motorola lasted for eight years, I should have stuck with it.

About this Netgear box I have had Time Warner Cable out to check it there box works fine but this box will not work it's defective trying to get another one but my 30 days expired on this and I had bought a warranty waiting to hear back on that

While I am normally a fan of NETGEAR when I got this router I was really excited! I had been reading up on it and it seemed to fit my need (mostly gaming) however when I got this unit it stopped working after about a week. I got it replaced and that unite too also stopped working in about a week. It was a real shame and also a pain in the but to have to set everything up several time not to mention having to go a few days without internet connection (not just to play game but I have an online base business) don't know if I just got two consecutive faulty units but I would not recommend this product based on my experience.
Cannot maintain connection to Internet

I bought this router and had issues maintaining connection to the Internet. The router would randomly lose connection to my modem, requiring a reset of the router. This affected my wireless connections AND my wired connections. After a few weeks of trying various settings and trying to contact Netgear support, which was not helpful, I abandoned this router and bought a Google OnHub (TP-Link) instead and have never looked back.
What a horrible glitchy product

I have had this thing for 3 days. I have yet to have it stay connected for a full day. I have averaged two times a day where all the lights shut off, and it refuses to even connect to the computer it is wired to. I am forced to plug in my old router and wait an hour or so at a time before plugging this back in. What a horrible glitchy product. I wish I could ask it what is wrong, but it refuses to connect to the proprietary software until it is done with its temper tantrum.

I purchased this with high hopes based on the stellar reviews I found for it when researching for a new router. I work from home a lot and with my line of web development work I certainly would classify myself as a power user. Further more I work in a house hold with numerous roommates and I really wanted something that could handle at minimum a dozen wireless connections at once.When I first hooked up this router I was frankly surprised at how well it handled everything I threw at it in terms of connections and constant use. Then 4 short months later I started noticing as some other reviewers have pointed out that the connections would slow to crawl. Suddenly I sporadically started seen my 5GHz connections go from 110Mbps to a consistent .8Mbps (yes thats not a typo, less than 1Mbps). Initially I sent my internet service provider my full ire thinking that there is no way my relatively new router could be the issue. Time warner understandably does not have the best reputation. They came in found no real issues other than old cabling. They replaced all cables even those outside my home going to the power poles on my block. Nothing changed. Sometimes a reboot of both the router would help, other times it did nothing. Sometimes it would be good for a week or several days but it would start working fine eventually. Then I started seeing this issues happen more frequently until finally at the end of December it was an everyday thing. I then noticed that when I swapped out the router with a borrowed one, or when I bypassed it completely and connected directly to my modem I had no issues at all.This is what brought me to the really diving into the router itself. To date, dozens of reboots later, several firmware updates, and even just reverting the entire damn thing to it's default setup with the oldest firmware available only provided me with a couple of days AT BEST with a working router.Since I am no longer within their 90 complimentary support window I get no help over phone unless I pay. Email support as a lot of others have pointed out takes an eternity to get any sort of response from.I cannot tell you how disappointed I am with this product and it's customer support.
Terrible for Apple Households

Bought this router off the many glowing recommendations that is has here and from sites such as Wirecutter and Cnet. Easy setup, really nice interface (especially when compared against TP-Link products) , decent size for any new AC Router (as they keep getting bigger with the more horsepower that is shoved inside). However, I'm not into router tech, just what works and work fasts. Most importantly is I've ended up having an all Apple household and the Nighthawk refuses to play nice with my Apple products. Started noticing it when downloading large files on a Air - speeds would jump from normal mbit, to 0mbit and back to normal. Odd, so started speedtesting the air which showed the same behavior. Router is fully updated, QoS is off (normal recommendations for troubleshooting). iPhone 5s would stream video stored locally for 10 mins and cut, restart video, cut, repeat. Trouble really started with new iPad Air 2 - wouldn't connect at all (both are running latest iOS 8.1). Bought a TP-Link (Archer C9) and while not the most user friendly it plays nice with all 3 devices and actually speedtests faster on all 3 (especially the iPad.....). I hate to abandon this thing on my unsuspecting brother who will get "gifted" it but there is no reason to keep it around the house. If you have an all Apple household look elsewhere (just not at an Apple Router - those things have no range).

So I have this set up and all works fine for a week or 2. It dies, I call support, they are very helpful and then after an hour determine my router is faulty. They will set up a replacement and i'm told to wait on an email for instructions. All is fine up to this point and it is a piece of technology so its not a big deal that I have the problem...could happen with any brand. This is where the problem begins. I can choose a basic option for a replacement for no telling how long it will take and have no internet until shows up in a week or two or i can pay $30 for a more reasonable speed. Im sorry but I paid several hundred dollars for this thing 2 weeks ago. It should last longer than this and I should receive an OVERNIGHT replacement with no cost to me! What about the time I spent setting it up now to have to do it again? Customer service SUX!
