I Like it.
February 28, 2017
Have been having better internet with this than the modem and router i was using before. It seems to have a better broadcasting power. I can pick up the signal better all over the house. Set up was a little tricky though my tech support at ISP went through it with me in a few minutes. It is working great.
Can't go wrong
July 19, 2016
Can't go wrong with netgear. I have a 2200 square foot house with a split floor plan. This router is in my home office which is on the other side of the house from my bedroom and the signal still makes it across the house. Works great for the buy price and has the ability to have multiple devices working simultaneously without an major decrease in internet quality.
NO PROBLEMS HERE . . .
May 28, 2016
Purchased this to replace a Century Link Modem / Router . Very happy with this choice , easy set-up, and haven't had any problems since ! Unlike the previous one I had . In fact I have NEVER had an issue with anything coming from NETGEAR ! ! !
I shoudl have bought this sooner to replace my AT&T router.
May 19, 2016
Great router. Easy setup. Performance is fast and distance is great. Much better than the old AT&T router.
Hookup was easy, talked to Centurylink
August 5, 2014
Unsure of what others have written, I received a v2 product today. Hookup was easy, talked to Centurylink, all I needed was my PPP logon/password, and the system populated the balance of the information to create a connection. The whole process took 25 minutes with 18 of those waiting for tech support to pick up on a busy day. Centurylink was excellent, the product is spectacular, and my system is smooth, fast, and simple. Thank you Netgear, Centurylink, and other product reviewers who led me to this great product! If you need a bit more (A/C) look to the N750, both share the same DNA, and I believe you will be very happy with your purchase!

Nice for the Price
September 15, 2017
As I didn't want to spend the money for a Nighthawk wi fi modem router, I chose this one instead,as it is the version that was replaced by the Nighthawk. Our brick home is about 2000 square feet and we decided to upgrade to fiber optic (from cable) that being said-I am pleased with this used WHD product-easy to set up.No hassle at all-I hardwired 2 computers with Cat 5 cables and wi fi'ed the rest of the house. All speeds are as they should be and for $50 bucks. I am well pleased.
Doubled the bands.
September 12, 2017
I used this in the house, doubled the bands. As we still have the old dial up service, I liked it, but the wife had trouble with her pad.
Good DSL Modem/Router relatively easy to hook up.
April 1, 2016
I got this DSL Modem/Router because of the Problem with the Fire Stick dropping the wireless connection. This device is relatively easy to connect and install. I would recommend that you change the password on the router as soon as you get it working.

The only problem I had was connecting to it with my browser. The instructions on how to do it are not that readilly available. I had to serch through the manual for the proper name and format. If you are already familiar with how to do this then, never mind.

I have it on a Verizon DSL. NETGEAR says it does not work with all DSL providers so go to thier Webstie to make sure your Provider is not one of the ones that they do not support.

It also did not solve my Fire Stick problem. The fire stick works fine with cable but will not stay connected to DSL for some reason. My thought it is a Android problem but my Kindles work fine so it may be the Fire Stick itself?

February 21, 2016
I upgraded to this unit from an N300 DGN2200 wireless router. The N600 is dual band and has better range to link my house and workshop (about 150 feet away). I also upgraded to a dual-band range extender, and now use two range extenders for excellent signal strength everywhere I need it. I'm using an APC battery backup (UPS) so that power glitches don't reset the router and my file server.
dual-band is nice, less clutter as WiFi and DSL are combined
February 6, 2015
After 4 weeks, a solid, reliable, fast DSL router Wi-Fi combination; dual-band is nice, less clutter as WiFi and DSL are combined. Easy configuration, almost plug-n-play.
Router interface appears not to be able to change the broadcast SSID name or change the factory set password.
Docs claim this can be accomplished, although the results after changing via the browser interface show otherwise.
BTW, the factory password is unique for each item.
Far superior to the Verzion/Frontier supplied DSL router.

Pretty good modem/router
December 30, 2015
I ordered this modem router because my older netgear wasn't functioning properly anymore. Kept losing connection to the internet. Anyway, installation went smoothly and it worked really well for the first day and we had about 4 devices connected at the same time. Now it's starting to glitch a little bit like my other one I replaced it with. I have AT&T so I'm not sure if there is a connection problem between the router/modem and AT&T or what.. Other than that, this one is giving way better service than the other one I had so I guess I can't complain.
Doesn't work with Windstream (like a lot of things)
October 18, 2015
Liked the product. However after spending a couple of nights in tech support h*ll between Windstream (ISP) and Netgear I had to return it. Although it indicated a DSL connection, there was no way to establish an internet connection. If you're struggling with Windstream I heartily recommend the Actiontec modem Actiontec 300 Mbps Wireless-N ADSL Modem Router (GT784WN)
Seems reliable, but Genie software failed in the setup
July 29, 2014
Once, set up it works fine. The software provided, however, fail to connect to the internet. I was trying to connect through Centurylink. Once I got through to technical support they were able to guide me through the setup fairly easily. The Genie software was pretty much useless. Range is no better and probably a little worst than my ISP provided Westel router/moden. I was expecting a little better. I've changed channels but still cannot get a reliable connection with my outside wireless camera. There was no problems with the old Westel in connecting even though the locations are the same. Overall the router seems reliable and has features like USB access my old router didn't. Don't expect get exceptional range, however.
works
October 15, 2013
It is a decent router and works for basic needs. It is not very good for extended needs. As a DSL modem it works great, so it was a good choice when I had DSL. I have been considering going back to my DLink Dir-655 which had much better options and configurability for more extensive use. I have been trying to do some stuff with NAT and this Netgear just doesn't cut it. It does basic single port NAT from external to internal but nothing more. DMZ is one address without any configuration options. It does do wireless N pretty well and has a larger range than I would have expected out of a unit with no external antennas. Another reason I am considering going back to the DLink as I am now on a property with acreage and I may need a point to point antenna at some point that I can wire in. I cannot do that with the Netgear. Take it for what it is, a relatively basic unit for an average home that might need to do some simple home automation or web serving, etc, with wireless N and DSL needs.
Good, but lots of setup
May 26, 2013
ADSL + router is good, and runs just fine..........now. But it took about 6 calls to Netgear support to get it to work. First 2 calls accomplished NOTHING. Had to call my DSL provider for assistance. Even thou not their problem, representative worked for 90 minutes to find solution to the parameters, and viola, it worked. But it still dropped the DSL signal. On second to last call, rep was, to put it mildly, an idiot. He did all the normal things, and also a cold reset (the button on the bottom that takes it back to factury, including losing all sign in info). After 45 minutes, his answer was to return the unit to Netgear, who would then send me a replacement unit (which might be a "refurbished"). I told him of his incompetence, hung up, and called Netgear back. Got a great rep. He knew what he was doing--fixed the problem, and it was working again. I explained the losing signal problem, and he signed into my computer, made adjustments to the Netgear parameters, and that was 4 weeks ago, and it hasn't lost the DSL signal again. But why did it take 6 calls, and lots of time to fix ? It cost lots of my time, lots of tech guy time, and lost confidence in Netgear. Why do companies do this ?

After hours on the phone with Netgear had to return ...
January 3, 2016
After hours on the phone with Netgear had to return first unit as it was defective. Netgear charges for return so I returned through Amazon. Second unit works but wifi range is non-existent at 80 feet. Netgear community forum has discussed in length since 2012 that wifi range is short. Netgear has not acknowledged this and continues to advertise long range capability. Calling Netgear support results in representatives with such heavy accents it's difficult to communicate, dropped calls, no callbacks, and little satisfaction. Will not purchase another. Any suggestions on how to improve wifi range?
OK for home use only, not for a small business
September 11, 2013
I installed this today for a small business client that needed a guest wireless network and ran into several problems. It was running the latest firmware. First, the client has a block of static IP addresses but the modem would connect to the ISP successfully only if I chose a dynamic WAN address. The dynamic address happened to be the last IP in the block but the old Netgear DSL modem was configured to use the first IP in the block. Second, the guest wireless network will only work if you use the built-in DHCP server. If you have a Windows server you're likely using it for DHCP and DNS. With the guest wireless network enabled and the built-in DHCP server disabled, wireless guest clients will get an IP address from your Windows DHCP server but they'll also be assigned the Windows server as DNS. Since the guest wireless network is isolated from your LAN, DNS queries are unanswered and web browsing doesn't work. Third, I could configure port forwarding from one external SMTP server for incoming email but not a second entry used for testing. You get one entry per service.
Out Of Box Nightmare
November 15, 2012
I admit I was warned by other reviews, but I had to have it. It took 4 hours and a dozen or more transfers between Netgear and my provider (CenturyLink). It started with an error on my ISP username, that cannot be reset and a glitchy setup genie from Netgear that chopped the end (.net) off of the username. Found that in Advanced Settings.

I have the feeling these two companies don't play well together because they blame each other.

The support from Netgear is atrocious, annoying, and will down-right piss you clear off your seat. You get 30 days of this terrible support before you have to pay them for help. They make a lousy first impression. If I need support from them I'll just use it for target practice.

Right out of the box I had to reboot it (paperclip) just to get to the setup genie. Then after 4 long hours I gave up and LO AND BEHOLD! I got a connection, but I can't dump the setup genie until I reboot the darn thing again.

I hope the rest of my wireless devices are easier to setup than this thing was to get online. BTW, CenturyLink does not support Netgear devices.

Bottom line, don't buy this if you think you will EVER need Tech Support.

Update: Got rested, then all wireless devices in network. I'm happy with the result. My old PC (32 bit Win XP) w/a netgear usb wireless adapter was the hardest to get going (hotfix KB893357 & disabled certificate validation) but is lightning fast. A firmware update is available. Maybe later.
Netgear quality......................
March 16, 2012
It only takes a few minutes to look at any number of pages showing the hardware included in this router. In all reality, the specs were more then enough to make me purchase this router/dsl modem. Unfortunately, specs don't explain everything. The 5ghz band works well, I've never had a drop in connectivity on the 2.4ghz band, and the speeds are excellent. The huge problem with this router, is that it constantly disconnects my TV, PS3, and windows media player on my PC from the external hard drive I have hooked up while streaming content. While it had happened on 2 tvs, and my other networked devices, I can't say that it's on the playing end, and since I've hooked up 3 HDD's, and a usb stick to test it, it's not my storage that's the problem. I've hooked up each ext hdd to my pc, and individually to the tv's. and they don't have a problem viewing the files, or playing them. But as soon as I hook one up to the router to share between them, everything fails. I've read other reviews both here, and other sites, that have reviews of the same thing happening, newegg especially has a lot from people with this problem, and it seems as though I'm one of the unfortunate ones to get a dud. For those of you that have a dsl connection, and need a router/modem combo, and DON'T need to stream NAS content, then this will work just fine, if not better then most. BUT, if you want to make use of the 2 USB connections to share music, and everything else throughout your home via wireless, this might not be the investment you're looking for. 2 stars for exceptional basic usability, but when it's advertised to let you make use of certain included features, you would expect them to work properly.
Simply Did Not Work
November 29, 2011
Update to previous review...I don't know whether the real problem was this modem or my Internet service with Centurylink. I have been still having internet problems even with my old trusty modem and router. However the old set-up does work to some degree. My initial review is below. Changing review from 1 star to 2 because my isp could have been some of the problem.

My previous DSL setup included a modem from 2006 and an Apple Wireless Base Station (router) from 2007. I assumed after having this setup for nearly five years it was time to upgrade to a router/modem combo. Sadly this product just did not work. After 15 minutes of frustration in attempting to set up the device myself, I broke down and called Netgear. The guy was nice and he had plenty of workarounds ready and after 50 minutes on the phone we finally got everything seemingly up and running. No less than two minutes after I hung up, the router dropped the internet signal and never worked again. I decided to go back to my old setup instead of another marathon customer service session. I had such high hopes for this combo unit. Also, when I opened the seemingly brand new box sealed in cellophane I noticed a seal was broken on the bag that housed the router inside the box. I paid for a new device, but possibly this was refurbished and maybe I got a dud. I don't have the patience to find out, so it's back to the Apple router for me.

I have had great experiences with Netgear in the past
November 9, 2015
I have had great experiences with Netgear in the past, however, this particular router was a problem.

The router would not allow port forwarding. When trying to assing a port forward it gave an "unknown error" message. I called Netgear tech support and was on the phone for 1-1/2 hours. They finally gave up and could not help me and said it was a hardware issue and that I need to exchange/refund the product.

July 27, 2015
I was not able to get it to install or function. I even had a "computer geek" come in and he was not able to get it to work either. I called Netgear for support and did everything they told me and it would not work. Unfortunately, due to personal issues I was not able to attempt to install and use this during the time period allowed for a return of the product.
STILL cannot get it working (after a month!)
April 15, 2013
I set it up perfectly and it finds my network but does not connect to the internet. I am fighting now to figure out why. Unfortunately my desktop computer also crashed (when it rains, it pours!) and I cannot work on it right now. ANY suggestions would be most gratefully appreciated.

Because of the time involved, I can no longer return it. So I HAVE to figure it out. HELP!
Won't connect to ISP
February 2, 2013
I purchased this product due to it's review by Cnet. I attempted to get it hooked up through the Netgear wizard. It kept saying "Incorrect user name or password". After 5 days and dozens of calls to Netgear and Century Link support, each pointed the finger at the other as to why it would not connect to the ISP, it never worked . Netgear sent me a replacement (me paying the return shipping costs of course). The replacement did not connect to the ISP either. Netgear support provided very basic support and quickly blamed the ISP. They refused to go into addressing the root cause and provided only basic support. Never did get it to work. Be very cautious buying a modem/router that is not through your ISP company. Even though the item says right on the box it works with Century Link, they told me they do not support it since I did not buy one of their products. Hopefully, I will be able to return it for a partial refund since it is past the 30 day period.
A horrible option for a dsl router
August 6, 2012
I purchased this netgear N600 in March. From day one the unit kept shutting itself down whenever it felt like it. I would just turn it back on and figured it would get better, which that did stop after 3 months, but then it just quit working and we contacted Netgear and they put me into there "Geek" department. They told me that the unit had a bad IP address and that if I paid them $129.00 they would fix it over the phone. We explained that the unit was defective (we took unit to our sons homes and tried it on their DSL and it did not work for them either) but no they kept telling us, which does not make sense, that our IP address was defective and if we paid $129.00 they would fix it over the phone. There was no other options but to pay them again for a unit that I doubt they could of fixed and they would have had our money. My son who works with computers daily and designs internet web sights knows what he is talking about but they just kept giving us a line. I can't believe that we paid $146. for this unit and now we have to purchase a new one in less than 5 months time, but it definitely won't be a Netgear. I hope no one else makes the same mistake. I have never did a review before but I would sure hate to have other people having the same problems I ended up with.
