High quality crimps for various electrical connections
September 10, 2017
Easy to use and crimps a wide variety of electrical connections. There is a front and back on the clamps. Color coded so you know which ones to use. Easy change clamps and nice case to hold the whole kit.
I like it.
June 4, 2017
The dies change easily, and feel secure. I do wish they were marked somehow so that I knew which die was which, but I'll live with it for the price.
Great product, great value!
April 10, 2017
Ruggedly built - doesn't feel cheap even though it s a great value. Check out how much one of the mainstream mfgs charges for similar products - at least 3 times as much!
Quality Product
February 12, 2017
I ordered these for open barrel terminals on my dirt bike and these crimpers made me look like an experienced technician...but it was only my second time crimping. After attempting to use the standard "blue, yellow, red" crimpers from the hardware store, I decided I would require a specialized tool. I am very particular with quality of product and do not tolerate throw away tools. I'm very impressed with the quality and ease of use. The case is a bonus too.
HIgh quality crimper
June 13, 2016
Great tool, I had to have one of these. I was done with the cheapo ones that come with a set of crimp-on ends. My research led me to this one. I have only used it a handful of times, but every time it has put a perfect crimp on the wire-end I needed atttached. Smooth, easy to change ends, blow mold case to store it all in. How can you loose if you need a high-quality crimper.?
Awesome tool to have... Beats using pliers for crimping!
January 30, 2016
I bought this crimping tool because I have allot of re-wiring to do on my truck. Allot of corroded terminals and connectors so I'm slowly replacing them. I figured I'd splurge and get myself the correct tool to crimp terminals the right way. So far all I've crimped were the female open barrel quick disconnect terminals that I also ordered here from Amazon. This tool has a 1 year warranty from date of purchase, the die's come on and off just like a socket on a ratchet, and all the moving points come lubed. Comes in a nice case and Astro also sells other die's if the ones in the set aren't what you need. The pics I'm posting are my very first time using this tool and they make me look like a pro! Make sure you have a few extra terminals to practice on if your not sure how to crimp it with the tool. Highly recommend this tool.

and 7 lines was pretty consistently the limit
October 22, 2017
For those wondering, you can in fact strip 26 AWG, 1.27mm pitch ribbon cable wire with it, but only with practice. First, you need to set the adjustment screw to maximum '+' (fully tightened to the right), and your ribbon cable can't be wider than 7 lines. I practiced for about an hour with some spare 26 AWG multi-colored ribbon cable, and 7 lines was pretty consistently the limit. So if you have 10-line 26 AWG ribbon cable, you won't be able to strip all 10 lines with it in one shot. You'll need to separate out 3 of those lines at a minimum.
I should have gotten this sooner!!!

I'm used to using a cheap manual stripper where I need to choose the correct gauge hole. The problem with that stripper is it would cut most of the insulation but not all, forcing you to do the old twisting action to cut the rest of the insulation. Then as you pulled the insulation off you'd hope that you didn't cut one of the wire strands. This stripper is amazing! Just set the length of the strip and boom you're done. No checking the gauge or visually trying to strip the same amount. You're especially not hoping you didn't cut any wires. Just consistent strips everytime!
My "go to" tool for wire stripping.
September 4, 2017
I'm not sure how I got by without this handy tool for my 73 years. I guess I struggled with a utility knife and the old fashioned wire strippers, which, although they worked okay, never really satisfied my needs.Although I'm an amateur, I perform all kinds of electrical handyman projects around my home. And, this is the "go to" tool for stripping wires of various sizes. Kudos to its inventor.
great strippers
July 14, 2017
they work great. doesnt touch the copper just the casing, and is done in seconds. if youve ever had the old style were you had to guess the gauge and got it wrong, youll appreciate these strippers. I used a light duty extension cord to wire up my heavy duty work trailer. (contractor), and this stripper even stripped the outer casing of the cord. no more accidentally cutting into insulation you want kept pristine.

This tool is absolutely great, you actually feel the quality when you use it. I have bought this for my car audio project along with some 14 gauge wire and from I have seen so far, it is the best for the money.I was going to get the less expensive one - Noico - but after reading the reviews, I have decided to go for this one and I do not regret my decision.Note that this is made in Taiwan.
... work on large wiring harness project I needed a good pair of wire strippers and this tool delivered
May 2, 2016
Starting to work on large wiring harness project I needed a good pair of wire strippers and this tool delivered!Stripper is super easy to use! Its almost impossible to mess it up!Every strip is clean, neat and precise; and did I mention that its fast! I'd say that it only saves a couple of seconds per strip but it saves a lot more time due to quality of the strip when it comes to feeding the wire into some terminal. This tool doesn't seem to discriminate between wire types either: so far I've tried it on anything between 8Ga solid copper to tiny 22Ga braided wire, even stripping shielded wire delivered professional results! This little gadget put Irving Tools on my map of professional tool manufacturer. If you are reading this review do yourself a favor and add this joy to your cart!

Wire strippers suck. These don't
September 26, 2017
Wire strippers suck. These don't. There's a weight to these that isn't heavy but it's there and it says 'quality'. Had to rebuy this as after two years mine disappeared on a job, I think. Only know they're gone and I'm growling. For the wire sizes it handles, it's quick and painless. Solid core however can be tricky. Worst case use the tool to break the insulation, loosen the jaw slightly and pull. After using these for two years I'd rather use a razor blade to strip wire then any other stripper including those 'twisty' ones.A note, those cheap 'twisty' strippers work great but I deal with alot of wire stripping on occasion and these don't hurt the hands and wrists. The only downside of these is when there isn't enough exposed wire for the strippers to fit the out comes the razor blade and a curse word.
Everyone should replace their old wire stripper with one of these.
May 22, 2017
No more twisting a wire cutter and often cutting off the wire strands. No more tugging as hard as I could to pull the cut wire cover off the wire while teetering on top of a ladder. This sucker is amazing. Just insert the wire into the correct slot for wire size, squeeze once and voila a stripped wire. It takes much less effort and does a far better job.
Better than the hardware store strippers
March 7, 2017
These things are extremely useful for both solid core and stranded (A/D or D/C) jobs. This pair is of the best quality I've used and has a handy cutter built-in.Once you use these and use them correctly, you'll never go back to the plier-type strippers again.
Klein says it all.
January 4, 2017
Have been using this stripper for several years now and they have all head up very well. I work around moister, mud, dust and just about anything else found out of doors and this stripper just keep cutting. I have 3 maintenance vans and all tool boxes carry Klein tools plus these strippers. I keep another set in my shop where I build control panels that require dozens of wires to be stripped the same length so the stop is very handy.
Strips Cleanly with no nicks or scratches to the copper wire. Built-in wire cutter is nice feature too.
August 11, 2016
I have owned similar tools as this Klein wire stripper before, but they were cheaply made and had a short useful like. This Klein stripper looks well made and I am hoping it will last. The stripper makes very clean wire strips and does not nick or scrape the copper wires. I use it primarily for AWG 10 stranded wire and it does a very good job stripping it. I wish I could strip stranded AWG 8 (it will strip solid AWG 8) and wire gauges smaller than AWG 22 with this tool, but it works for most of my wire stripping needs. The built-in wire cutter is a nice addition, but also limited to cutting just a range of wire sizes.

Real nice crimper. The fit and finish are superb
April 2, 2016
Real nice crimper. The fit and finish are superb, and this crimper make excellent connections. I've used it with small 1mm connectors up to 45 amp Anderson Power Poles, and once you pick the right jaw it handles them with no problem. I did have a small issue with insulated connectors, but I feel that was due to using a smaller than recommended wire size, and even then they only came loos after some major tugging. If I had one suggestion for improvement, I'd like to see a smoother finish on the jaws to make the completed connecters easier to remove. If you crimp something really hard in here, the best trick I have found is to take some needle nosed pliers, catch the bottom of the end of the connector with the bottom jaw of the pliers, and the top over the crimper jaw, and squeeze a tiny bit.
There is nothing better than having the right tool for the job.
February 20, 2016
Really nice kit for DIY. I tried all the cheap thin crimpers and was always disappointed with the result. I always had to double back with some pliers to correct the shape of the crimp. I have not messed up a single crimp with these. Every wire locked in factory tight. No solder needed. The assortment of jaws is nice especially since you do not need any tools to change them out, but they are proprietary. This was a major selling point for me. They work for all sorts of connectors including the famous Anderson Power Pole connectors that are the bomb.PROS: Well made, lot of jaws included, nice big soft grip, high quality machine steel, nice case, adjustable tension, easy release, tool-less quick change, easy to track missing jaws, Super high quality.CONS: Proprietary jaws. Scant instructions. no stripping option.
Excellent crimpers
December 4, 2014
I'm a professional automotive electrician, so crimpers are one of my top five most used tools. These make excellent quality crimps & are very consistent. The missing star is because they are not available with Weather Pack dies. If those were included or even if I could purchase them separately, these would get that last star.

I recently rewired my 1971 Chevy C-10 and used these to crimp the terminals in the kit I purchased. It had just about every item I needed to do the entire job. I had a few terminals that were too big, but for what I was able to use these for, they work great! It would be nice if it had a release button, in case you mess up and want to pull the terminal out without completely crimping it. If you do that, you have to crimp the terminal until the jaws release. Not a big deal for most items though.

Great tool for anyone that does any type of wiring, even if only a few times a year
October 3, 2017
Such a great tool that I should have purchased a very long time ago. I'm not a professional electrician or anything, but I do wiring around my house and help out friends....electrical, low voltage, cat 5e.6, etc. These things have save me a ton of time in fighting with wire getting it striped and so on. The only con on these that I've found so far is the tension. I've found that it's best to turn the tension as tight as I can get it for most wires (if they're solid), for any stranded wires I loosed the tension a bit. I've also found the small plastic measurement gauge piece just gets in the way. Most of the time, I keep it pushed down and out of the way.
Great for any project.
September 13, 2017
Started using this in my engineering classes. Mage cutting wires and crimping a breeze. Especially in my logic design classes where some projects require an obscene amount of wires. This allowed me to keep each project neat and consistent with the cut of each wire.

June 19, 2017
They work great, quality is very good, the only issue is that you have to figure out what crimp to use for different connectors, it would be nice to have some drawings as an example of what crimp to use for different connectors.
Excellent.
June 6, 2017
This is a very interesting tool. It is a wire-stripping workhorse and also does crimping. Does what it says it's going to to and very well, too. It seems to be high quality compared to ones I've searched out in stores, which were more costly. It's very accurate and precise and does not miss. By that I mean it's never snipped off any wire strands beneath the casing like you can sometimes get.
Great tool
March 9, 2017
Good quality wire stripper from Irwin tools. Almost every tool Irwin makes is of good quality very sturdy tool. While using this product I had an issue with not being able strip a wire. there is an adjustment screw in the middle that you have to turn to adjust the hold on the wire. Will buy again if needed
Better than the cheap models
February 25, 2016
So far so good. It has done it's job perfectly on about 95% of the wires I've fed it. Bought this to replace a cheap auto store model, and could instantly see the difference in quality. I'm sure there are better models for professional use (and priced accordingly), but for average home use this should be sufficient. My last (auto store) one started twisting slightly leading to poor cuts, so I'm curious to see how this holds up and will update if it gives problems

Pros:Very sturdy wire strippers.Fit my hand nicely.Cons:Not something you want for use on stranded 8 AWG wire. (Did not see that information on their web site, but it is in the manual I received with the stripper.) It will strip the wire, but it will also cut outer strands in marine Type III stranded wire.

This thing works remarkably well. Can't believe how effortlessly this strips wire. I've needed this for years.I really wish they offered this tool with the optional 16-26 AWG blades or as a bundle with both blade sets. I ended up spending $45 in order to have this tool with the correct sized blades.I bought this blade set in case you're wondering.Klein Tools 11074 16-26 AWG Katapult Wire Stripper - Replacement Blade Set
... the job for several years and they are way better than the other style of wire strippers
February 13, 2016
I used this style on the job for several years and they are way better than the other style of wire strippers. Makes changing a light ballast a lot quicker and easier. Not a fan of serrated jaws to hold the insulation but these don't appear to cut in and deform it. The addition of the wire cutter is a solid improvement on this type of stripper. Replacement blades are readily available when you eventually dull them or get a knick. The only thing that prevents this from being a one tool for the job is the lack of being able to cut a wire mid length, you have to have an end to pass through this one to be able to cut to your needed length. So I still need to carry a set of wire cutters in addition to these. The blades are marked to tell you which hole for solid or strand but you can't see it once the blade is installed in the tool.

Needs Better Instructions and Better Hardware
August 1, 2016
Easy to switch out jaws, but they have very sad documentation (none) on how to correctly use the different wire inserts with thier crimpers, it would have been real nice if they had, too many way to put inserts/wire in the wrong way, hense one less star....They have two open barrel sets that are too similar with each other, what set to use?I did an open barrel with 10 awg wire, so far did not come out too well, like the crimper was too small for inserts... I used the 10 awg and 8 awg positions, the inserts only had crimp for the wire not the wire cover. The crimper will do both at the same time, again no instructions how to correctly position everything.... Not the best tool for solar MC connector, I need a set of jaws with only one (wire only, not insulation) finger crimp set!Caution I used the insulation terminal jaws and it was slightly misaligned and it cracked a chip off one of the high points! Now the tip of jaw is starting to spread out as in picture! They should have made space for a screw to stop the spread! Had to take a star away for this....But the crimps look more professional now...

The open barrel dies just seem not to work for F crimps(oem, german style, factory style) they come out really crappy. I'm not sure what they mean with D-sub? and the insulated cord end terminals, those dies look weird. F-crimps are popular by germans oem.

December 12, 2016
It doesn't cut the insulation, it pinches it and pulls it off. Sometimes you have to do it twice to get the right length if you want a long wire on the end. It does not work well on old and hardened insulation. I expected the head to have cutters that fit a certain wire size and then pull it off.
It's ok, if I lost it, I'd not buy it again, I'd just go for the "manual" one.
September 19, 2016
This machine is ok. It will work (90% of the time), but it has an annoying thing. With some wire, the "stripped" plastic will remain in the machine and it will not necessarily come off unless you really shake the thing. If you don't eject that properly, the next stripping process may not work as intended, due to the foreign object being there. If you're careful, it will do its job relatively well. I've only used this with .22 gauge wires, so I don't know much about other sizes.I just wish I had brought the non-automatic version, for I almost always know the gauge I need to strip.I haven't used the crimping features because I have the VISE dedicated tool for that :)
They do the job if you can get them to grip the wire.
August 28, 2016
I bought these strippers after seeing all the amazing reviews on amazon. I regularly flip homes so I do a fair amount of basic electrical work (changing out outlets, light fixtures, etc). For years I have been using the Monoprice Universal Cable Jacket Stripper (103354). It worked pretty well, but occasionally i would screw it up and cut through the wire instead of stripping the insulation so I thought I would give this a try. These strippers just don't work that well for me. Sometimes they work like a dream and it is everything I had ever hoped for. However, about half the time the self-adjusting doesn't grip down tight enough and the insulation just stretches out. All that being said, I do still use these over the other ones because they get the job done eventually, just not quite as easy as I had hoped.
Not bad for certain things
March 19, 2016
If you handle Romex 12/2 alot and are stripping the yellow jacket to make it safe or installing outlets and switches, this thing works great for quickly removing the outer yellow jacket. However, we all know that there is a thin film of hard clear plastic over the individual insulators for the hot and neutral conductors. This tool fails frequently because the clear plastic is too hard and smooth for this tool to effectively clamp on and pull it apart. I have the clamping adjustment as tight as it will go and it still doesn't work well. However, as I stated above, it works great for removing the outer jacket and may be worth its weight in your bag just for that. I know we have all gotten fast at removing the outer housing but I'm telling you this is effortless.
The ability to strip the wire without me having to wrap the wire around my hand and tug for dear life to remove the insulation m
September 21, 2014
I am an Industrial Electrician and use Klein tools for just about everything EXCEPT for these strippers/cutters! I have a broken hand and possibly cut/strip 30-40 wires on a given day (12AWG - 16AWG). The ability to strip the wire without me having to wrap the wire around my hand and tug for dear life to remove the insulation made it wonderful to me. The listing price is $35.00 but I got them from here on sale for 16.51 which is more than half off. These are wonderful and I'd recommend these bad boys to all my co-workers.UPDATE :I had to lower from 5 stars to 3 - I base my judgment on a few things.1 - I will not put this in my tool pouch. It's too large and to place it in and out would take as long as it would for me if I were to use my Klein's.2 - Romex wire it doesn't do well on. It's great on stranded copper wire.3 - The cutter is on the bottom of the tool causing you to slip the wire under to cut it.I would still recommend these Especially IF YOU HAVE A NYLON - CANVAS POUCH. If you have a leather pouch like I do, don't bother purchasing these unless you have enough room. They're great, but when on a mobile job site it's just not that practical.

This stripper may not work for all forms of 22 gauge stranded wire
April 23, 2014
Just got my hands on this wire stripper a few minutes ago. We bought this with the intention of using it to strip 22 gauge stranded wire. According to everything on Amazon and the Klein website, it should be able to properly strip my wire. However when placed in the smallest hole, it does not strip it. It glides over the insulation and shaves off some of it, but its like its 1% too big of a hole. If you need this for 22 gauge wire, be aware that it may not work as advertised.I already called Klein customer service, and they recommended replacing the blades with their smaller gauge variety. http://amzn.com/B00776SKB6 is the link to what you may need. They said they would send me the replacement blades for free, which solves MY problem, but I wanted to make everyone else aware that it may not work with your particular brand of 22 gauge wire.

The crimps did not meet my requirements
October 14, 2013
The crimps did not hold wire in place. I modified the adapters to work better, but got nowhere. I ended up buying the Snap-On crimp set to fit on this tool, and now it works better. However, sometimes the jaws would separate a little bit when I would crimp 10AWG wire, which would cause the crimp to miss & bend the terminals. So I ended up welding the jaws together. Now it works all right. If I would do it over, I would purchase a quality crimpers directly from Snap-On that wouldn't need any modifications to work at it's best.
Check your terminals before buying
December 17, 2012
This is a quality product. The problem is that the jaws are too wide, wider than the space between the pin and the cable shield and you can't crimp the correct section properly, specially on the smallest terminal jaws. I had to grind 3/16" off on 3 sets of jaws in order to make them work.

Failed with Romex
September 18, 2017
I'm doing a lot of small rewiring projects in my house, mostly with 14/2 and 14/3 Romex. This took 3-4 tries to strip 1 wire and didn't strip all the way back to the depth gauge. On some tries, this didn't even cut through the clear sheathing and just wrinkled it up, which just made everything take longer. It's much faster to just use a good, sharp, manual stripper.
Tears and shreds at wire insulation
April 2, 2017
I bought this wire stripper hoping that it might work on vintage style cloth insulated wire - I've been using a box cutter to strip it and that really wears on the hand after a bit. The stripper couldn't cut through the cloth insulation at all, so that just wasn't going to work. However, I still use all kinds of other wiring and would have kept it for that. I tested the stripper on a variety of wire gauges and types and it didn't work well on these either. It just tore at the insulation of smaller gauge wire shredding the woven shielding underneath. It roughly cut/tore the outer jacket of 16/2 AWG and couldn't leave a clean cut. I thought that I might have a defective stripper so I returned it for another. The replacement had the same results and I'm returning that one as well.
Meh. Not impressed.
September 26, 2016
Meh. When it works, it's fine.It doesn't really "cut" - it just seems to grab the insulation (when it actually grab) and pulls it until the insulation breaks and begins to strip. So far, it mostly just slides off the coating of the insulation.I'm not impressed. I'll stick with this style Klein Tools 11063W 8-22 AWG Katapult Wire StripperThis set will probably just languish in the bottom of my toolbox until I need room for something else, then it'll "migrate" elsewhere.
Didn't work for me
September 19, 2016
I bought this when on sale on Amazon for about $13 and based on reviews, I was hoping it works great with the speaker wire and occasional Cat 6 cables, but to my disappointment, the unit I received was barely able to work with a 16 awg speaker wire (the transparent kind). It worked once in a while, but most times the claw on the left side (not the cutting side) doesn't work and the cable just get pulled by the other claw resulting in either an elongated insulation or nothing at all.Besides the main stripping operation, it has some secondary features like cutting and crimping. I have also tried cutting the same 16 awg speaker wire, and while it does the job, it wasn't what you expect from a wire cutter.Maybe what I got was a defective unit, but based on other negative reviews here on amazon, I think its a pretty common issue. If it works as advertised, it would be a must have for anyone dealing with stripping wires even on occasion, but for me, I just chose to return and not gamble again.
Disappointing for my purposes

This tool is a clever idea, but it does not work on some types of common insulation, especially when the wire is stranded. Judging by the number of glowing reviews, this tool works well for many types of insulation and wire sizes. There is no real cutting edge utilized in this mechanism. It depends upon clamping the insulation, then pulling it in opposite directions at a defined point using blunt edges.. For THHN and THWN insulation, the outer, low friction layer and tough inner layer just don't cooperate. The former is pulled off, leaving the latter unaffected. The mechanism itself must be made by a single manufacturer, as a number of different brands use exactly the same one. In any case, I have returned this tool and exchanged it for a Klein automatic stripper that utilizes an edged cutter.
It's ok, but -

I confess I have a "thing" for wire strippers. Each one is designed for a particular application. It's the same deal with all tools. I have at least fourteen different hammers - from a maul used in splitting wood to a chrome-plated one used in making jewelery.I purchased a no-name version of this tool when working on a project in Eastern Europe twelve years ago. When I saw the IRWIN version I thought, "oh, boy!"Turns out in side-by-side testing, my crappy inexpensive made-in-Asia version stripped wire better. The only issue I have with the old tool is that the handles keep sliding off.... OK I lied. I do have another issue. You would think that IRWIN engineers would have extended themselves to put a mark on one of the jaw sides to indicate which part of the wire stays and which end spits insulation. On the old tool I used some White Out to mark the "keeper" side. Guess I will do the same on this one.If you have an old-style version of this tool that works, don't bother replacing it.

the device itself sticks when in use and the blades are too shallow and just strip the plastic coating on the wires. I might have to contact customer service to get replacement blades that work.

Amazon ad mis-stated the wire capacity. I had to return them. If they had handled the wire sizes as advertised, they would be a great product and very fairly priced.

Slips & does not strip small size wires
Unfortunately...
November 3, 2011
... it doesn't work on 8 AWG wire. I bought this tool because I needed a wire stripper that would do 8 AWG, and this one was advertised to fit that criteria. Alas, the hole in the jaws for 8 AWG and 10 AWG is the same, and using it on 8 AWG results in a whole bunch of strands getting cut off. Maybe there was fine print somewhere (or big print; perhaps I wasn't paying attention) that states that it is not for use with stranded wire, but I didn't see it. Great for 10 AWG and smaller wire. It is quick and easy to use and appears to be made well. It just doesn't do what I need it to do.

Not Good For Insulated Lugs
September 7, 2017
The crimping tool does work ok, but it does not work well with insulated terminal lugs. The jaws get stuck and will not release causing the failure of the crimp. I would not recommend this tool for a critical job that requires precise crimps.

Not too happy with this product has it a little while and have not really used it until this past week and they broke after day too
very disappointing

I work as an industrial electrician and I work on mechinery that has a lot of vibration. Things come lose if they aren't tight. I've read the reviews and recently bought this tool. The tool is clibrated a little lose but you can adjust the tension on the tool. It seems it slips and loses its tension and it's very inconsistent in how well it crimps. It's to the point that I have to double and triple check my crimps. Very disapponting being that this looks and feels like a nice tool. Jaws are easy to change as well but if it doesn't crimp right it's not any good. I've made probably 75 to 100 crimps with this and I've only had it a week and a half.

Buy a better tool
October 19, 2017
I ordered this based on some YouTube reviews and the reviews here at Amazon. I should have gone to the IRWIN tools website and read those reviews. This thing worked for the first ten wires of varying sizes within the 10 -24 gauge range. After that, I brought it to the jobsite to repair some electrical parts and run some longer wires and it didn't strip AT ALL. The teeth on the "grab" side of the wire don't have enough tension, no matter how much you adjust it so the wires just move around too much and the stripper side can't cut consistently. The wires are a jumbled mess after using this tool and are half-stripped, chewed up and totally unusable and have to be cut. I am honestly writing this review because I can't in good conscience recommend these as wire strippers I have been an aircraft electrician, avionics technician, and an electronics technician since 2003. It would have been nice to have such a dynamic tool at the ready which would have made my jobs a lot easier but it is too good to be true. I would recommend spending the extra money on a good set of Klein automatic strippers ($30+) or IDEAL custom strippers. The standard design of those I'm sure is made by other companies as well. Sorry IRWIN, this one is a flop.

at least in my hands this tool is worthless -- doesn't grab wire anymore -- jaws just slide down the insulation -- had it a year maybe used it 6-8 times -- bought it due to all the 5 star reviews -- proves again that all that glitters is not gold
Could not get it to work
August 28, 2017
I have tried a variety of wire sizes, and so far, I could get it to strip one wire. The adjusting screw had no effect.Since it came with no instructions, I cannot tell if I am doing something wrong. My old one finally died and I bought this.

Any self adjusting strippers seem to have issues. These ones straight out of the box had issues. Not for me, but works with solid, larger gauge wires.
I don't love this tool
February 20, 2017
I love Vice Grip pliers, but I don't love this tool. I've yet to get wire properly stripped. It may just be the approach taken by the tool's design as a one-size-strips-all wire stripper. The problem is in the cutter head. It's flat and the cutter head only contacts part of a wire's insulation. Depending upon wire gauge, it may be just a small proportion of the overall circumference of the insulation, so stripping it off is not so good. Might be okay on small gauges, but I have yet to get it to work there, too.
Strips wires poorly
April 18, 2016
This tool was going to be used to rewire 200 fluorescent troffers for LED ballast bypass, which equated to stripping and cutting around 1000 wires. After attempting to strip 20 wires, it was clear that this tool was not the right tool for the job.I think the wires would not strip due to the design in the stripper tool. From the product photo, the left side of the tool grips the wire, and the right side clamps down to cut the wire jacket. However, if the wire jacket is too strong and the grip is too slippery, the tool will not be able to cut the wire. The wire slips, gets damaged, and you'll have to cut the wire and try stripping the wire again. The cutter tool is just not sharp enough to make clean cuts--maybe I received a dud? In addition, the right side cutter does not surround the wire jacket, it only cuts into the wire jacket partially and rips the rest of the wire jacket when the tool separates, so you do not get clean cuts.I ended up going with the Klein Tools 11063W 8-22 AWG Katapult Wire Stripper, sold here on Amazon as well. This tool worked for me, and I was able to complete the job at a much faster pace than using the Irwin tool.

It seems that Klein Tools is cheaping out on these now
June 2, 2017
I own a set of the non-wire-cutting version of these, and they are absolutely fantastic. It is quite literally impossible to get a bad strip, and if anything the faster the better. These, despite appearing to be exactly the same but with wire cutting plates attached, are immediately obviously inferior. First of all, they rattle, whereas the old ones are rock solid. Secondly, they are not consistent, because the new mechanism is less robust and precise, and allows the handles to move relative to one another before stripping has begun, changing the relative orientation of the gripper/stripper parts.None of this would matter if they stripped reliably, but these do not. Some strips go as expected, whereas other times the gripping portion will chew all the way through the insulation. You can feel when this happens, because the mechanism inside behaves somehow differently from a proper strip.I need these for regular use in a professional environment, and this level of reliability is absolutely unacceptable. Since they still get good reviews, I will be returning these for another set, and if they are as bad as this one I will go back to the old set (without on-board wire cutting), which will become treasured as an irreplaceable tool which is simply not made anymore.
Great tool

Saved a considerable amount of time retrofitting old lights with new ballasts and lamp holders (tombstones). A must have if you want to save time.
