Can see the arrow shot from my bow during slowing motion or frame by frame
October 31, 2015
I use this camera for many outdoor activities and although I have never owned a go pro I would say this is equally as good if not better and much cheaper. I have mainly used this camera for bow hunting and on the lower resolution you can actually see the arrow going through the air which is really awesome. The only issue that I have noticed as with any cheaper camera is that when it is close to dark and the sun is going down it doesn't pick up things. I doubt that a go pro does very well in these low light instances either and was not disappointed as the price for the camera is extremely affordable for a high quality product.

Not as fancy as a GoPro but the video is outstanding. The image stabilization is outstanding. Audio recording is very sensitive to wind noise, but when enclosed in the waterproof case you get practically no sound at all. I've found that putting a piece of tape over the microphone hole works pretty well. It is quite small when out of the case and fits easily in a jersey pocket. Very east to turn on/record with one hand while riding my bike. This would not be recommended for your only action camera but enhances any other video cameras you may have by providing the option of having multiple cameras running at one time.
It records really good full HD video with decent sound quality
June 28, 2015
Got this from the warehouse deals section for just under $40, and have already used it to record a couple of scenic drives, and my bike commute to work. It records really good full HD video with decent sound quality. The video quality is not as good as say a GoPro Hero 3, but is as good as the Hero, with less distortion. The audio quality is at par, and works fine for recording in car music and conversations. The image stabilization part forks well, because I know how bumpy my commute is, and this thing irons out the bumps. The battery lasts me around 2 hours recording at 1080p, but it will continue to record if you connect it to a car charger (you can use a cigarette lighter to USB adapter, and plug the supplied cable in). I have recorded over 5 hours of video that way, so it works for sure. Also, with a 32 GB card, you should be able to get it to record almost 5 hours of 1080p content.
Better camera for your budget
July 24, 2014
This camera is incredible bang for your buck. I got it on clearance for under 100. It performs on the level of 200-300 dollar cameras. No noticeable frame skips, adjusts to lighting very very well, and very few artifacts. It isn't the same quality of a go-pro. But considering the difference in price, I would make the same decision again. The increase of quality from this to a go pro is simply not worth the increase in price. The packaging was excellent, though difficult to detach the camera from. The included case and mounts are also incredible. I have already dropped my camera while it was in the case, and it continued recording without a skip, and neither the case or camera took any damage. I use this camera for paintball, and am confident it can take the impact of a paintball with ease. It also does an excellent job of keeping my shots in focus and well lit under the canopy of trees or in low light situations. All in all, for the price point, this is the camera to get.
Excellent ! this cam works and do not bug or get troubles !!
June 9, 2014
i am a pro spearfisherman and was bored from some other cams .....this one does not get water intrusion , this one works in any condition , this one is so simple with the only one on/off button , this one does not get Fog , this one start recording and stop recording with the need of taking the battery out the cam !! (haha!), this one has no bug , this one is not expensive , i bought 3 from those for less than half price of one some other brand.
A surprisingly great little camera
April 21, 2014
I was looking for a helmet cam but didn't want to pay three hundred dollars, so I gave this one a try. It doesn't seem to have a way to set the time and date, but I do that with the video when it is on my computer. I mounted it on a half helmet with the mounting stick on pad they include and it sets well adjusts well and holds it's position. I wore it on a helmet in my truck to the airport this January to pick someone up from the Pittsburgh airport. There was a blizzard going on and I drove from late afternoon daylight to darkness on the way back. It adjusted for light and dark, car headlights, street lights, and natural daylight in a great way. The picture was clear no graininess in a downpour of snow by my truck headlights. The resulting film looked just like the actual scenes and lighting was in reality. For the price this is one great little camera. It comes with a waterproof clear case, a mounting bracket with Velcro sticky pad and sticky glue pads to attach it to your surface whether it is helmet or something else. The sound pickup mike is okay, just don't expect to make a music video with it. I would recommend this to anyone who wants a great camera for whitewater canoeing, mountain bike, ATV, dirt bike racing, sky diving, motorcycle trips, car trips, just about anything. I love it!

January 5, 2017
This is a sleeper.... I know most people would go the GoPro route but I like to try something this was well worth for a 1080p HD cam. It is primarily for outdoor scenery with good lighting.I would use it as a outdoor stationary cam or an extra body cam.
I liked this video camera for the price
October 19, 2015
I liked this video camera for the price. It is user friendly which is good because the instructions that come with it are very poor and of little or no help. If you buy one I suggest that you buy a class 4 micro SD flash card for it and depending on what you are planning to use it for and check out the accessories that come with it because it doesn't come with flash card or much else. I wanted to use it for hunting so I had to buy he head gear for it. I have used it only once but I must say the video quality pretty is good. My son has a Gopro and I think the quality of video rivals his. Even with buying all of the extras I had to buy I still have far less invested than buying GoPro. .
One of the best action cameras you can get for the price
July 24, 2015
One of the best action cameras you can get for the price. It does have a narrower field of view but its a trade off for a lens that does not stick out in, the open for scratching, and to help eliminate the edge distortion you see in other action cameras.Pros:-Picture quality is good (for its price range)-Simple to use, just slide forward and it is good to go.-DurableCons:-Very poor in low light, it has the grainy off colored mess that just sucks-Cannot take photosAll in all its is great for people want to record daylight action videos on a budget.
nice item
October 14, 2014
takes great video, but if its raining you cant hear the audio so don't bother.I use this attached to my hunting hat.used a rubber washer and the screw that comes in the box to mount to my hat by drilling a hole in the brim big enough to get the screw through tightly (saw on youtube)takes nice vid of my shooting my bow.took on a squirrel after the rain and still got decent vid of my bow
Works great...
October 3, 2014
Works as expected. This camera can be used with the cable attached to power outlet in the car or at home and still record. It will not record while attached to a computer (I read some reviews that said it could not record and charge at the same time). Only problem is the cable is only 3' long and will not reach the camera while I'm driving. This is easy to fix with another cable.
No frills action cam that captures your action.
September 30, 2014
Nice little action cam. No frills, few bells or whistles. But it produces a good clear image (when it isn't being shaken all around). I wish there were a means to set the date and time as figuring out what I just shot is a little more difficult than it needs to be.Decent sound capture and a nice little cam, not as good as a GoPro but, for a third the price, a really good deal!Battery life is sub-optimal, imo. I go for long bikes and paddles, I'm not interested in having to swap out batteries to keep recording my rides.

Works good, if you don't mind wind noise.
September 28, 2015
It's pretty cool, takes good video. On my motorcycle I found a spot behind my windshield where the wind noise is almost tolerable. Other than that there is insane amounts of wind noise which will override any other thing you want heard while riding, even in the waterproof case, with tape over the mic, with cotton taped over that, while attached to helmet. Just had to put it in that right spot. Anyway, no problems. Good video.

If you need a quick cheap camera.
January 16, 2015
When trying to film long continuous videos the camera will stop and restart in 10 minute segments. Some of the files end up corrupted and missing if you film for more than 40 minutes at a time.
nice price; short battery life
October 22, 2014
This camera is fine for basic action video. I like that it is so small and lightweight. Video is a bit choppy in low light but just fine on a moving bicycle. Audio as on par with other cameras of this type; that is, not great. I knock this camera down because my experience is that the battery only lasts an hour and 15 minutes on the lower HD resolution. I want about 2 hours which is what I get from an older Contour camera. If all you need is an hour at a time, this is a fine camera, especially for the money.
Poor low light performance
August 29, 2014
Ok, its easy to use and the HD quality is good, BUT the sensor is not responsive to low light. In short, night vision really sucks. Normally, one would expect a digital camera to have at least SOME sensitivity in subdued light but this puppy absolutely refuses to even come close to what the human eye can perceive. I guess that tiny lens is really a pinhole. Anyway, my dreams of recording anything but bright scenes are on the shelf so far as this action cam is concerned. So, video fans, if you're looking to wear this camera at twilight or after, my advice is to look elsewhere and then, try before you buy.
... bought the camera for a helmet cam to get better footage of my riding especially offroad
August 28, 2014
i bought the camera for a helmet cam to get better footage of my riding especially offroad ..... ive tried using the other cams i have, a samsung, and a casio exilim and this XTC280 has a very good picture compared to those and feels very good build quality, but what was disappointing is the view, its not near as wide angle as i'd hoped .. both of my 'regular' cams have a wider viewing angle unzoomed and what that boils down to is that when your moving about 60mph through trails, the XTC although capturing a very high quality footage, doesnt immerse you in the experience and it appears on film as though youre moving at 10mph .. impossible to capture your bars and front fender with the trail in front of you . .. in short, its ok but not all that great for getting killer riding footage .. the mic sucks to, i tried a rubber band over the hole and it only kills wind noise below about 10mph, above that and i imagine it needs to be in the waterproof case to cut noise because of the interaction of wind on the body and switches ect, havent tried it in the clear case .. so in summary, its not what i consider a wide angle cam, as i said compared to my other regular cams i would call it zoomed to 2X at least, and the micis no better than a regular cams mic and probably not quite as good, you will have to get creative with tying an old sock around the case or something to get the best sound with wind involved .....

Don't get for cold weather use.
November 29, 2015
I got this with the intent of taking vids of myself riding on a snowmobile. I learned later that it will not work in temps below about 25 degrees. I turns on for a second and then turns right back off. choose a different one if you want to use it in the cold. It's not bad in warmer temps but stops working in the cold weather.
Customer service was acceptable but the product was lacking.
September 9, 2015
Sound quality is muffled when inside the waterproof case not useful if you plan on using it in wet environments and need sound.
Spend a little more for a better cam
August 12, 2015
I purchased 2 about 6 months ago and now, have had time to evaluate them.Along with the other "Cons" (can't film while charging, Batteries aren't that great, and so on)1st: both cameras are exactly the same but one charges faster and hold a charge longer. one about 2hrs the other about 1hr 20min. one will go for quite a long while once it starts blinking (Low Battery) one will shut down just after the blinking starts. It seems that one battery is better than the other.2nd: I labeled them Cam 1 and Cam 2 when I got them. Cam 2 does not record sometimes. I went kayaking a few days ago and cut it on. After about 4 hrs the record light and the green light were still on. I was wondering how it was lasting so long. After cutting it on, no matter what I did I couldn't cut it off. Once I got home I loaded my card into my computer and there was nothing on it. It didn't record at all. The videos are pretty good quality but if you never know if it will record or not what's the point.3rd: when placed in the waterproof case the sound quality is greatly diminished.
NOT ready for primetime black box
May 3, 2015
I got this as the cheaper alternative to work as a black box while bicycling in traffic. The first videos were great, until the battery started to die. When the battery drains, the video quality goes way down, as in goes dark. There's no way to know when to change the battery to keep the video quality high. So, I change the battery about every 45 minutes. Then, the next recording trips, it didn't record. What gives?

November 11, 2014
An okay product does not do well in low light and it does not work well mounted on my bow the vibration from the shot causes the image to blur beyond recognition I shoot a Hoyt carbon element decked out with all carbon parts and I have used moultries camera and did not have vibration problems with it
Charge More And Give Real Stabilization
September 13, 2014
Stabilizing on this unit is non-existent. It has more jitter than my Mobius Cam that makes no such claim. Compared to the Mobius this doesn't come close. You can not shoot while charging which means you must carry extra batteries and change them out frequently. Then you must hookup the unit to 5 volts to charge a battery, taking the camera out of use! The Midland is slow to adjust to sudden light changes and shadows are very blue. The tripod socket is flush with the body, restricting mounting options. The Mobius has MANY operating options set with your computer. You have a choice of wide or narrow view (like that a lot). You can have auto start and/or auto stop with ignition. You can turn the sound off. You can rotate the image when recording, a great feature for mounting up-side-down. You can even adjust the lens focus with included tool! The Mobius is about half the size and does much more and costs about the same. Mobius has no waterproof case yet (they say it's coming). REAL stabilization would be great, but not at $400 like the Sony which has serious mounting limitation.

I mean really bad night recording
January 23, 2016
Worked for about 20 min , then powered off. Fully charged it, 32mb sd card. So I kept working with it trying to see if it was something i did. Never could get it to work properly. Sometimes it would record for 5 minutes then power off, sometimes as soon as I turned it on it would power off quickly.Returning and going to get a go pro or something. The night recording with it looking at a 500 lumen light in front of it was still awful, I mean really bad night recording. Low light conditions are a no go for this camera. If the sun is not out dont use this camera.

It records without switch on...
April 8, 2015
I bought this one last July. Used just one time to record bike riding during the summer. Brought this for my family road trip couple of days ago and I was really frustrated. It was recording on its own in my back pack without the switch on !!! I had to take the battery off. It repeated 5~6 times during my 4 days trip. I'm looking up the warranty.
