Excellent every day Dutch oven for people who need nonstick interiors
January 18, 2017
Standard mid-grade Simply Calphalon quality. The non-stick should last the usual amount of time with care - hand washing helps. Dishwashers are hard on nonstick surfaces. I bought this as a gift for someone because she needed a decent pot for chili, spaghetti, etc. The more squat design of this pot is much easier to work with than taller pots, it's good-looking, a good weight, and the clear cover and stay-cool handles are a plus. I'd get this for myself, which is why I got it for her. Unfortunately I have forty year old Club Ware that will outlive me, not that I'm complaining. It outlived the company that made it.
Decent pot so far and I've been using it more and more.
February 24, 2016
This is my second go-to kitchen pot. I typically use a 5 qt pot for a lot of dishes. I've been cooking for four people regularly. Lately I've noticed that my 5 quart pot is just a little bit too small for what I need. So I've been grabbing this one more and more for soups and chili. I like that it's non stick and it has a decent lid. The lid felt a little light and thin at first and I wasn't sure if it was going to be easy to break. I don't have a light hand in the kitchen. But so far it seems fine.
So lovely and versatile.

This pan's depth and width are exactly what I've been looking for in a non-stick pan [I so truly hope this lasts]. So far, I've found this to be excellent for:1). Making long pasta like spaghetti/linguine/fettuccine/angel hair etc. because the width gives you more room to allow the pasta to boil down into the pot.2). As a chicken fryer but deeper with much less splattering3). Stews and soups and sauces. I made a large batch of navy bean soup and a batch of homemade ketchup with this pan and they both came out perfect.4). Frittatas. I love the fact this is oven safe up to 400ºF which is perfect for making a cheesy frittata.5). Stir frying. Even though this isn't round like a wok this pot performs great for stir frying and does a great fried rice as well.6). Sticky buns and cinnamon rolls. Yes, you can bake gooey cinnamon rolls in this pan and all of the buttery, sugary, cinnamon filling stays on the rolls instead of running off like on a regular sheet pan. This isn't dishwasher safe [not a big deal for me since I always wash every pan I own by hand anyway].As with all non-stick, the clean-up is a breeze. The bottom seems very sturdy and so far no warping issues on my gas cook-top.This is not metal utensil safe as per most non-stick pans so stick with silicone/melamine/nylon/wood utensils. As someone who has used (and abused) non-stick cookware for years. Here are my tips for helping it last longer:A. Never use non-stick spray (it's the death knell of non-stick cookware). I learned this the hard way after throwing away a lot of destroyed non-stick pans. The silicone in non-stick spray as an anti-foaming agent is the kryptonite of non-stick cookware and will literally eat away at the non-stick surface.B. Adhere to the manufacturer's guidelines and only use high heat for a very short time for searing/browning [using high heat for too long will not only damage the non-stick but warp the pan as well].C. Never rinse your hot pan right away [even with hot water]. Let it cool down on a cool burner or heat proof cook-top before washing.
Perfect addition

We specifically got this dutch oven because it matched our pots and pans. I was skeptical because I am used to cast iron ones my granny used. Well this worked just as good! Super easy clean up, and cooks food evenly. The only issue I have is that the highest temp it can go to is 400. Some recipes I have call for a higher temp but I have had no issues with setting it lower and cooking for a tad longer. If this is not an issue for you either, this pot is awesome!!!
Excellent Cookware
February 29, 2012
Dutch Ovens... there are plenty out there to look at and chose from. This particular Make and Model "fills the bill" nicely, so to speak. You can use it for unlimited purposes, the handles will not melt (they have a special rubberized wrapping), the Pot & Glass Top are very well made of Calphalon. Lastly the Pot cleans up easily because of its material, and the product is made in America. Hence this product is a win-win in our household, do not be afraid to purchase this product.
love my 7-qt dutch oven
March 7, 2011
When I bought my calphalon kettles, I failed to notice that the set included a 5 quart dutch oven - which was smaller than I was used to but serviceable.I searched on line and found the Simply Calphalon 7 quart dutch oven at a good price AND got free shipping. It is everything it promised to be - even cooking, easy cleaning, clear cover to monitor soups and stews.Problem? I was cooking 5 quarts of food and it fed my family...now I cook 7 quarts and we eat that too. Maybe I need to go low fat...

High Quality Cast Iron Dutch Oven!
July 25, 2016
If you are going to buy a Dutch oven this is the one. Well made in the U.S.A. Comes pre-seasoned and ready to use. Lodge has a reputation for making cast iron cookware for 120 years and we have other pieces that are more than 20 years old and look like they are new. You can buy this once and use it a lifetime.
... cook something in here and not have it taste amazing. Great oven
July 12, 2016
I don't think it's possible to cook something in here and not have it taste amazing. Great oven, excellent quality, lid fits tight, legs are long enough to bring it up over the coals. We have made cobler, enchiladas, pull apart bread, beef stew, and a couple breakfast casseroles. Everything turns out great.
Great little dutch oven.
July 8, 2016
This is a great little dutch oven. After comparing reviews of other brands I'm glad I decided to go with Lodge brand. It's a nice quality, and we like the size for our family of four and it works great for cooking with. At first we didn't follow directions about the coals on top/bottom and burned some meals. But with the cookbook and coals it makes some very nice meals.
Looking forward to these
February 1, 2016
I bought the 6 quart one as well. I will be using them both once I season them nicely. In the summer time I rarely use my kitchen unless its a burger on the range top. Its just too hot! These are going to be great for those hot summers where I want other than something on my grill.
Great for a camping for 3 of us, never leave without it.
November 12, 2015
Perfect for 3 of us when camping. I take this with me for every campout, I cook over wood made into coals. Its easy to take care of typically when seasoned well, I many times just flip it over and on top of the fire which bakes all the food to a crisp and then I scrape it out and coat it with oil.
Best Ever
July 2, 2015
Love my Cast Iron Dutch Oven. Now that we are past the family camping trips and are back to just the two of us camping, most of the time, this size Lodge Dutch Oven is perfect for the 2 of us. All we need to bring to cook on is an open fire. For breakfast I can fry sausage on the lid while making an omelet in the oven. Dinner it is perfect to bake 2 seasoned chicken breast, baby potatoes and your favorite vegetable!Pre-seasoned it comes out of the box ready to use. After clean up I use food quality Beeswax to re-cure it. Works better then oils, and will never spoil, no matter how long you have to store it!As expected from Lodge cookwear,it is well made top quality cast iron, you can't go wrong with this purchase.Arrived as expected from Amazon...on time.

Lighter in weight than my other Calphalon pans, still a great buy!
July 13, 2016
This is a great pot with a very nice non-stick surface. Nice size, too. I have used Calphalon pans for the last 15 years and love them. I have to say though, that this particular pot is not as heavy, the metal it is made with is not as thick as my other Calphalon pans. Maybe that's why the price is much lower than their other pans. It is definitely lighter in weight. Still, it does a great job cooking and I love it. My only reason for the 4 star rating is that it is not as heavy as my other pans in this brand.Other reviewers have said the pan turned white after it was run through the dishwasher. This pan should not be put in the dishwasher - it needs to be washed by hand. The lid however, can go into the dishwasher. The pan is very easy to clean due to the nonstick surface. Also, do not put the pan on high heat with nothing in it. This will ruin the teflon surface and over time will make it peel. My own husband does that to seer meat, and it has ruined my pans. All in all, this pan is a great buy. I wouldn't hesitate to buy it again.
Two years of use and going strong
May 25, 2016
I've just passed the 2-year mark with this pot. I bought it to replace a cheap non-stick Dutch Oven that I'd used a surprising number of years before the non-stick wore off. I'm hoping this one will do the same.I've been very pleased so far. I use it for at least one dinner a week, so it's seen a decent amount of use. The finish (inside and out) looks good. I haven't had any discoloration or bubbling/peeling of the non-stick surface. My only complaint is the handles aren't completely coated with insulation. I've gotten used to it now, but I've had several small burns when I grabbed the uninsulated spot by accident.I now have two other pots from this line, so I'm a repeat buyer.
it cleans like a dream
April 8, 2016
This dutch oven far exceeded my expectations. Nothing sticks to it, it cleans like a dream, and the size is perfect for my family of five. I cook almost everything in it, and it has become my go-to, all-purpose pot.The only downfall, and the reason that I subtracted a star, is that the handles are partially metal. While the middle section of the handles are silicone and stay perfectly cool, I often (accidentally) grab outside of the silicone and surprise myself with the heat from the metal. This product would be a solid five-star item if the handles were completely heat-resistant.
Good but not perfect
June 28, 2015
This pot quickly became my go to cookware because of its ample size and ability to go from cook top to oven. However, it could use some improvement on these issues - the silicone on the handles is not wrapped end to end and is NOT sufficient to handle without oven mits; even though I am using recommended plastic and wooden utensils, I am still getting scratch marks inside the bottom of the pot; and finally, I wish it had a steam vent hole on the lid. Aside from these things that do not affect my recipes, this pot does a nice job on the food,
the handles are my main complaint...
December 9, 2014
I wish the handles had more of a protective bare-hand safe surface so I didn't feel like had to be so careful with moving the pot. Sometimes I feel like I need to use hot pads to protect my hands when I am pouring the contents into a dish, for example. It was also a wider (larger diameter) pot than I expected, but I guess that's okay.
So far, so good, but....
January 7, 2014
This appears to be a durable, relatively lightweight product with an excellent non-stick coating. It would make an excellent pot for the stovetop even if one never intended to put it in the oven. The only drawback I've noticed during the first couple of weeks of usage is that the textured coating doesn't cover the part of the handles close to the pot, so you have to be careful not to touch the handles' exposed metal that could cause a burn when the pot is removed from the oven.Metal utensils may scratch the Dutch oven's nonstick coating, so use plastic or wooden instruments.

great nonstick surface but bottom wraps
April 29, 2017
The nonstick surface is great but the bottom do not stay flat and do not make good contact with flat top stove after a few times of cooking.
Defect? Maybe...
March 17, 2016
I was very pleased with the look, shape and size of this dutch oven pot and was excited to find it here on Amazon at a reasonable price. It was exactly what I was looking for. My only disappointment is that after using it, it looks like it is all scratched up on the bottom and I do NOT use metal utensils in my pots and pans. I purchased this in November but since I had surgery soon after I never got the chance till recently to actually use it.Since I'm past the 30 days I can't return to Amazon and so I think I will try and contact the manufacturer regarding this. I have a set of Calphalon non-stick that was purchased over 2 years ago and never had this type of problem before. Very disappointed but we'll see how the manufacturer responds. So it's hard for me to recommend this product till I know whether Calphalon stands behind it.
Black Dutch Oven Now Silver
February 20, 2015
This Dutch Oven performs quite well, but, when I order a product in a particular color, I expect it to REMAIN that color. Especially a Calphalon. Yet, about a month ago, as I was HAND washing this pan, all the black just wiped off. It's now silver. I've had it less than a year, and have used it fewer than a dozen times.
Disappointed! It was perfectly packaged and delivered
February 20, 2015
Disappointed! It was perfectly packaged and delivered. Lid metal was bent on the inside. I refuse to believe this was just a bad pot. The metal is very easily bendable. Its just a poor use of material. Lid still fits though! I probably should rate this lower but the actual dutch oven is honestly made alright, would be better without the horribly made glass lid, the lid really devalues it. Not the typical Calphalon you would like if you are a true Calphalon buyer.
Has major flaws....
February 10, 2015
I really loved this pan at first but since using it I have burned my hands and fingers I don't know how many times on the handles, they don't have any where near enough silicone on them. They need to be redone. Also the glass lid is not vented so food drips out from under it while cooking and steam bubbles out from under it and gets on my glass cook top and has to be cleaned up every time after cooking. I hate not having a vented lid. Such a nice coated pan that doesn't stick, and such a great size, why can't they fix the flaws?????? It would make it a fantastic pan and I would definitely buy more and it would be the pan of choice... consequently right now with it's flaws, it's not.
it's ok
April 26, 2014
Have used it a few times and already it's out of shape. used the recommended heat settings, but the bottom is no longer flat, it is curved now. Disappointed.

Seems well built but when we put it in the fire we noticed that water vapor was being released between the lid and the pot. It should be sealed. So we had to put a brick on top. Otherwise food tastes great from it.

Just not quite there
September 25, 2011
I have to say that I was excited to get this dutch oven after having read all the glowing reviews. It seemed as if this might be a top quality product, perhaps even on par with older products, the 'real deal,' if you will. But when I opened up the box, the truth was that it simply is not. It will, however, serve to do most things mostly well, even though it is by no means a five-star product. The reason that it is not a five-star product is simply the finish, which other reviewers have touted as 'original non-stick' or the like, which is not true. The seasoning that the oven comes with is fine, it is the quality of the cooking surfaces which are lacking, being rough by any standard. Old cast iron cookware was machined, giving a much smoother surface, but these ovens are simply cast in molds that are almost good enough and shipped out the door. Yes, they use a very fine sand which is giving a relatively smooth finish compared to other cast products, but it is simply substandard for a cooking surface. (If you own this product and don't believe me, sit it next to you and look at the interior surfaces, then surf over to your favorite auction site and look up 'griswold cast iron.' Enlarge the photos and look at the interior surfaces. Now compare with what is next to you. The difference is not just age and use but an actual manufacturing process which it seems Lodge no longer thought was needed.)Granted, Lodge is not the only company that does this. Le Creuset also distributes products which are truly very nice casts, but which without machining, simply do not measure up to old cast iron. I guess they perfected the casting to a point where they decided they could save a bunch of money by not doing those extra steps of tooling the cooking surfaces. They were wrong. If I had to suggest another product, I would say your best bet is on an auction site, antique store, estate sale or flea market. If you just want to make stew, or fry things, etc, this will work fine, but if you want a good product, look elsewhere.

Huge disappointment!
August 8, 2016
Purchased the 7 quart dutch oven for the occasional large gathering when a pot like this one can be extremely useful to make that large batch of chili or stew etc. This pot has been used a total of 4 times, was hand-washed every single time, never had any metallic spoons/ladles/spatulas etc used on it and yet I find the surface has 4 or 5 distinct scratches on it where some of the non-stick coating has come off. I realised later that the scratches had been caused by chicken pieces with bones being stirred in the pan - which is quite ridiculous. Calphalon proudly claims this pot has a hard-anodized coating which is designed for everyday use - so how could making an everyday dish like chicken casserole only once damage such a pot?And since there has been all this scare about the chipped nonstick surface being possibly being carcinogenic, hence I have stopped using it, and now the pot is used as a flower pot in the garden. What a waste!I have owned other Calphalon items and never experienced such problems with them, hence expected the usual high Calphalon quality. Very disappointed.
Specs are incorrect. Its 4.5 inches tall for 7 qt.
May 11, 2016
I purchased the 7 qt. Because the specs said it was 6.5 inches tall. It was replacing an old pot that was also 6.5 tall. It. Is not tall. It measures barely 4.5 inches. It is quite wide however but if your looking for depth the specs are incorrect. It's a nice pot though and well made. The lid does not have a vent which is great for a Dutch oven use and it can be heated too 400 in the oven. I decided to keep it because of that.
Very disappointed.
September 21, 2015
I've had this pot for about 13 months, using it probably less than ten times, and almost exclusively for making gumbo, which requires a lot of stirring when preparing the roux. I've only used plastic or wooden spoons, but the coating on the bottom has come off badly. Should've spent my money on cast iron. Very disappointed.

February 16, 2015
Most of my cookware is Allclad and very heavy. I was expecting this Calphalon to be just as heavy, but it is not. I will keep it and give it a try, but I am concerned about food burning with such a thin bottom.Update: I've used this for a couple of weeks and there is no problem with burning food because of the thin bottom. However, I have a glass cooktop stove and the bottom of this dutch oven is not flat as it should be. I did not keep the box so I'll give this to my daughter, who has a gas stove.

I had read reviews about this Dutch oven and gave it a shot.Everything worked well the first few uses. Used it for multiple things on the stove.Always hand washed , never used abrasive tools. The last use was on some christmas candy.Well we monitored temperature very closely and it never got over heated.Went to clean up and noticed that the coating was cracking and coming off. This was a surprise since we never had used anything abrasive or over heated.Caphalon had covered it with warranty (shipping is on us though)I hope the pan they replace it with will hold up better then this.
Disappointed in this Dutch Oven
February 16, 2014
I own a set of Calphalon pots and the quality is very high. I was expecting the same with this dutch oven because it had the name Calphalon on it. The pot size is nice but it is a light weight pan that does not cook things well on my professional stove top. I cooked two recipes of beef bourgignon side by side, one in this new dutch oven and one in my other calphalon pot. The one cooked in the new dutch oven was inferior to the one cooked in the other pot. Because it is so light weight, it is impossible to cook something low and slow. I will keep this pot and use it only for boiling pasta and potatoes.

Unit looks like it has been used. Looks like it has scratches from metal on it. and the coating is chipped in places. I will need to remove the seasoning and reseason it. Which is a long process. The coating comes off easily with prolonged heat
May 21, 2017
It was one of the most expensive pan I have purchased and my expectation was higher, but I started to see scratches within 2 weeks after started to use it, even though I was only using silicon type of cookwares. The coating comes off easily with prolonged heat, like stir frying or stewing. It was very dessapointing and I will never buy products from this company again.
Will not purchase Calphalon again.
November 27, 2016
I purchased this in 2014 December. I followed the manufacturer's instructions for handling and care and use, but the non-stick coating started to wear off, by 2015 December, it was starting to show wear and tear similar to my other non-stick pans that were 5 years old. Early in 2016 I was making a lentil stew, I heard a loud pop like a rifle shot, turns out the glass lid just cracked in a thousand places as if the contents were under pressure. As I lifted the lid up, the glass pieces fell into my stew. I had to throw that out. I have never ever seen a glass lid crack like that. I continued to use the pan for some more months, but it has become clear that the non-stick coating was gone. I will never buy a calphalon again. Going to T-fal
Pathetic
September 3, 2016
I am writing this review after using this pan for about 20 months. Non-stick coating started peeling after about 4 months. And in 12 months the peeling was 80% gone. We only used wooden utensils in it, never let it sit without oil or food on stove and always washed it by hand. I am pretty sure this has got good reviews from people who provided feedback after using it for a few weeks and I was fooled by the glowing reviews.
Don't waste your money on this.
June 9, 2016
I've had this pot for almost four months. I use only plastic cooking utensils, yet the nonstick coating is already flaking off. I noticed food was already sticking before I reached month three. I wish I'd spent a bit more money for something better. This was not worth the money.

This was a Christmas request for my husband. He just went to cook in it for the first time and found a thin crack beginning at the lip and it moves down about 2/3's of the way into the pot, not easy to see. He was preparing a meal from the cook book we also bought and all the tools that were recommended are close by. So frustrating as it was not inexpensive. We are not able to return it without paying shipping and only getting a partial refund because we are two days past the return date. Since it is damaged, it seems this item should be replaced. We are Very unhappy customers.
Wrong Photo
June 23, 2004
This would be a great buy if the picture and the product description matched. The picture shows the Lewis & Clark commemorative oven, but the product code indicates the standard Logic 12" oven. This is a common error on the part of Amazon, mismatched picture and product. Also, be careful of their pricing claims, on the 8" oven they advertise lowest price of the season, but the oven was $8 cheaper the week before. Make sure you know your product before you buy - save yourself a major disappointment.Update 6/30/04: Getting closer to the truth, the picture is now correct for the product, but the description is still off. Per Lodge, the depth of the L12CO3 is 3 3/4 inches, not 4. This could possibly mislead people into believing the advertised oven is the "deep" version.
