These knives are really good for the price
July 15, 2017
These knives are really good for the price. Very sharp out of the packaging. I was amazed with the ease they go through chicken. Partially frozen meat gets cut super well with these too. Not to mention the whole setup looks really classy.
Great quality knife set. Definitely would recommend

I absolutely love this knife set...great quality for a great price. The color of the wood matches great with my cabinets could not get it any closer if I tried. Definitely would recommend this.
Very nice set! Purchased as a gift for my daughter
April 13, 2017
Very nice set! Purchased as a gift for my daughter. This set contains a great variety of knives for multiple purposes, paring, bread, butcher, utility and steak, as well as scissors. The dark wood tone of the block is very nice and happened to match the stain on my daughters wood floor. She loves it.
You can't take these awesome knives and throw them in a dishwasher
July 18, 2015
Came razor sharp. I cannot understand for the life of me the reviewers that complain about rust. These are NOT stainproof, they are stainLESS. They will stain if not properly cared for. Hard sharp knives have Carbon in them which will cause rusting. You can't take these awesome knives and throw them in a dishwasher. Like anything of quality you must care for them. Wash and dry by hand immediately after eating. It isn't hard or complicated. The sharpener it came with is also great and if you follow the enclosed suggestion you will be able to self sharpen. I never realized what a hassle trimming meat had been until I used the utility knife. Cuts raw beef like butter. Suddenly all food prep became less of a chore with these. Good knives like these are a must have for anyone who loves to cook at home.
great set. Don't listen to the other reviews
February 24, 2015
Been using them for a few weeks, great set. Don't listen to the other reviews, for the price you can't do better than these. The knives are great, they cut effortlessly and look great, the steak knives are just ok, handle seems to be made from a different material, but I don't use them as often. The block is ok, scratches easily but looks its part. Definitely recommended.
A must have for any kitchen!
September 21, 2014
I purchased this knife to complete my knife set. I accidentally threw this knife away in a pizza box and was extremely disappointed I no longer had it. I cannot say enough good things about this entire knife set. The knives appear to be well made and aesthetically look very nice and expensive, without the expensive price tag. I would highly recommend these knives as an addition to your kitchen ware collection!Pros:1. Aesthetically appealing2. Well made knives- sharp and make a clean cutCons:1. None!

Works GREAT, bargain price!
April 28, 2017
This great little gadget will put a SERIOUS sharpening on a knife, from a tiny penknife up to a honkin' big cleaver, very very quickly and easily. And it cost less than a fast-food lunch, on top of that. If a knife is fairly dull, it might be better to start off with a whetstone the way you always sharpen a knife. Once you've got it sharp on the whetstone, this thing will transform a blade from "OK" to "MAN, that's sharp!" very quickly. At this price there is NO reason to put up with dull knives in the kitchen or workshop.
Does the job!
February 21, 2017
Very practical knife sharpener. Can sharpen serrated knives too. We have some cheap knives that we use too much and this really did the job.
Safest if you suction it to the table or counter. And pay attention to where it is safe to hold the knife. Works very well - my daughter was so excited when she had company for dinner this weekend.
EDUCATION: It is NOT rust on the coarse sharpener. The bronze colour is called 'brazing'.
April 15, 2016
I am a mechanical engineer.
What many reviewers have mistaken for rust around the metal coarse sharpening side is actually an alloy used to 'braze' on the carbide insert that actually does the sharpening.
This is stated in the product description.

Look up brazing on Wikipedia.

If you look closely you'll see the bronze colour surrounds a rectangular block, which is the carbide sharpening material.
It is set in place (into a ground out section, which is why the surrounding bronze colour always fills out a circular arc) using the technique called brazing.
This is a must-have!
April 4, 2016
I absolutely love this knife sharpener and can't imagine not having it around.

It is very easy to use. I keep it in the drawer with my silverware and pull it out quick whenever I am about to use a knife. A few quick runs through the coarse sharpener, a few quick runs through the fine sharpener, wipe down the knife with a dry cloth and I am done. Less than 30 seconds and I have a very sharp knife.

And the difference is immediate. I spend a day cubing a pork shoulder to make sausages. After sharpening my knife with this sharpener, it cleanly cut through large pieces of shoulder. It didn't get bogged down or start making rough cuts. If you own any knives at all, you owe it to yourself to have this nearby. It is a life-saver!
Great sharpener
January 27, 2013
I recently bought this to sharpen all of my kitchen knives which had gone dull over the years. At first, I didn't think it worked too well. But then I went to the Edgeware website and watched their YouTube video on how to use it, and realized that you may have to pull the knife throught the sharpener up to 10 times to get it sharp. (I was initially only pulling it through a couple times.)

After pulling through the knives about 5 times, the knives did indeed get very sharp. For my knives, I pulled them through the "course" side 5-6 times, then through the "fine" side about 4 times. Seemed to work well for me.

Another tip I learned by watching Edgeware's YouTube video, was to set the sharpener on the edge of the counter at a 45 degree angle. (That's apparently what the v-shaped groove is for on the bottom of the sharpener.) When the sharpener is on the edge, you can pull the knives straight through and down without worrying about hitting the countertop and scratching it or breaking the tip off your knife.

Lastly, I'm not sure why some reviewers say that this only works on small knives. I used it on small knives, as well as all of my larger chef style knives. The process is exactly the same no matter the size of the knife. So it should work the same, and indeed it worked just fine on all of my small and large knives.

Great for the price and holding up well
October 11, 2017
So far my wife loves this set. Everything arrived without any damage and all 3 have been put through the ringer already. They are fairly thin so I wouldn't advise "tossing" them into the sink but they are well made.Make sure you research what it takes to take care of bamboo utensils and care for these properly and I'm sure they will last you.
I'm glad I'm not ingesting micro plastic particles anymore lol
September 26, 2017
This not only a cute set but also practical. I used to have a plastic board until I decided to change it!I'm glad I'm not ingesting micro plastic particles anymore lol...This product comes in a very elegant presentation. Is light weight... Just be careful you let it humid for a lil while... it can curve a little. I fixed mine leaving some weight over the board overnight... right after I chopped my veggies, I place this wonderful chopping board to dry, so it remains flat.Highly recommended!
Great cutting boards

These are decent cutting boards a nice variety of sizes and I use them on a daily basis. They hold up well to repeated use and have not warped or fallen apart. Much better than many other cutting boards I have owned.
Nice bundle
May 12, 2017
Really sturdy, and actually very pretty. I'm saving the large one to use for cheese if I have guests. And using the small one as a spoon caddy next to the stove. Great bundle, great price.
Very durable
April 3, 2017
Great cutting boards. The little one is really small but good for cheese and a quick small chopping job. They haven't even faded after being washed multiple times. Very hard and sturdy.

Great knives easy to sharpen and keeps an edege
August 15, 2017
Great knives easy to sharpen and keeps an edege. Do not wash them in your diswasher. Hand wash. Dry..Sharpen..then rinse the metal files off again.
The metal was not smooth but it still cuts pretty well.
August 11, 2017
The middle knife was not up to standards with the other two. The metal was not smooth but it still cuts pretty well.
Well Made and Affordable
July 24, 2017
I bought these as a gift for a friend, but in all honesty, they were also for me, since I cook over there often and they had terrible ikea knives before. These are really well made and sturdy knives. They hold an edge well and for a long time. The set has everything you could want, the block holds it all and very attractive. We use them all the time and find them to be an affordable but well made set! I wouldn't hesitate to give these as a gift to anyone.
Nice set
May 3, 2017
Nice set. Not the highest quality, but fine for use in our vacation home. Nice block the blends with the kitchen cabinets. Recommend hand washing.
LOVE this knife set
January 27, 2017
I purchased these knives for a Christmas present and couldn't be happier with my choice! I was missing pieces from my previous set which wasn't the best quality and decided it was time to have another set. Did some research about quality knife sets that wouldn't break the bank and came across Chicago Cutlery. I don't require anything too special to create meals at home, but I wanted something of better quality. Item arrived much quicker than the estimated shipping date. Knives can not sit in water and are best cleaned by hand washing after use. When using the knives for the first time I was very impressed. Didn't require a lot of force to cut the steak that was grilled and it felt like cutting butter. Would recommend this set to somebody who needs a decent knife set and doesn't want to spend a lot of money. Very pleased with the purchase.
Worth the price, but not top of the line.

This seems like a good starter kit for a new kitchen. My in-laws are coming from overseas to live in the U.S. and to help prepare for their arrival we're putting together things they'll need. I ordered this and it looks solid, the knives look good in general, though I'm not 100% in love with the steak knives. Still, overall, it's a good set for the money.

Easy to use and efficient.
July 6, 2016
Easy to use and efficient. I sharpened my knives, and they are better than when I originally bought them. You can cut yourself just by touching the blade. The only problem is that the sharpener tends to slide on the counter. The smalls legs are not sufficient to hold it in place, and you need to maintain it yourself. The first time I used the coarse one and the soft one. Now, I only use the soft one around once each two weeks.
Super small, so great for my NYC apartment
July 4, 2016
Super small, so great for my NYC apartment. We have a colored knife set, so were concerned this might take the color off near the blade but that was not the case. It worked great and we noticed a difference after using it just once. It says on the package you can use it for serrated blades, but that doesn't feel right to me, so I just used It for my smooth blades.
Simple, effective sharpener
June 27, 2015
I bought this knife sharpener after reading multiple reviews and trying to find a price point where I felt I wasn't buying overpriced garbage, but not paying for something that won't work after a few uses. I think I did a decent enough job with this item. The coarse and fine slots do a good job tuning up knives. I have been using the sharpener without any lubricant, but I am sure you could get even better sharpening with more work. I have sharpened numerous kitchen blades such as butcher knives using to clean chicken to smaller knives used on vegetables. This is a great buy for any home user.
Nice for the price
October 15, 2013
This certainly won't replace having a professional sharpen your knives for you every 6 to 12 months, but having your knives taken somewhere to be professionally sharpened isn't something we all can do often. This is good for keeping the blades of your knives in good shape between those exotic high-end sharpenings. I run my knives through this at least once a week. Ideally you could do a couple passes every time before you start cooking, but I'm a bit too lazy for that. Honestly, I'm not sure if this does any better job than the sharpening steel I have for my knives, but it's cheaper and faster to use.

Overall, I'm glad I bought this, but I think it would be a poor decision buying this hoping to take a dull knife and make it perform like a Shun or Wusthof blade. If you own decent knives, this will help keep them sharp. If you own dull knives, this will help them a little bit, but not as much as buying good quality, sharp knives and maintaining them by having a professional sharpen them once or twice a year. You can certainly make a dull knife sharper using this, but I question their claim that this can take a dull knife and get a perfectly good-as-new cutting edge on it. I view this as more of a maintenance tool for already-decent knives than a cure-all for dull, old knives.
A Very Nice Sharpener!
January 28, 2013
I've tried various sharpeners over the years, and mostly stayed with a set of Crock Sticks as they seemed to be the most effective. I absolutely will not use electric sharpeners or grinders on my fine knives as those devices take off a lot of metal and heat up the blades which runs the temper (especially small bladed knives like pocket knives). The problem I've had with crock sticks and sharpening stones is establishing the correct sharpening angle, and keeping a consistent angle from one sharpening event to the next.

I recently tried a Smiths CCKS 2-Step Knife Sharpener and thought it was okay, with some exceptions. But it worked well enough so I tried this little unit, and like it a lot more. It has the same basic design; the coarse sharpener uses carbide blades set at about a 23 degree angle, and a fine sharpener of two ceramic rods set at about a 24 degree angle. With just a little bit of effort I got my kitchen knives and favorite pocket knife as sharp as they've been in years.

I see two features that makes this little sharpeners superior to the Smith CCKS:

1. More stability. The Smith CCKS tends to wobble when I'm resting it on my counter top, pulling a blade across the sharpener. The Edgeware Edge Grip stays rock solid on the counter top, and it is easy to hold without getting my fingers in the way of the blade I'm sharpening.
2. The less distance between the edge of the sharpener and the sharpener blades With the Smith CCKS, I cannot get the entire length of my blades sharpened. With the Edgeware Edge Grip, I can get the entire blade across the sharpener, which makes a big difference when sharpening small blades.

The only drawback this item has is that the sharpening angle is a fixed angle, so you can't use it on single edge knives or knives that use a 17 degree edge. However, most common kitchen knives and pocket knives use a 23-24 degree edge, so it shouldn't be much of a problem. It also doesn't sharpen serrated edge knives; If I found a small sharpener that worked on serrated edges I'd be very happy!

Overall, this is a great sharpener for the price, and I could recommend it to anyone looking for a knife sharpener that is inexpensive, easy to use, and actually sharpens knives.

Great for $13, Lasted a year
October 7, 2017
For a $13 dollar set of cutting boards, these are great. I got mine over a year ago and the two larger boards just broke. Now I know you might say, well Alex why give it 4 stars if it broke after only a year? That is a valid question, but honestly for $13 I will buy another set every year. They were great while they held together. The smaller one started to warp after about 8 months, the other two's handles broke then broke down the middle within two weeks of each other.
Light & pretty
September 22, 2017
Love these boards, they are light & useful. Not sure what the very small one is for but for this price it doesn't matter. Only complaint is one in the set should have a lip for cutting juicy items like tomatoes.
Pretty good bamboo cutting boards
June 23, 2017
Pretty good bamboo cutting boards. I recommend buying the oil though, we stick one in the dishwasher and it started stripping the bamboo wood and took off the finish. Hand wash only and apply the oil to get from cracking.
Four Stars
May 14, 2017
Good for a little while. Consider buying a new set after 6-8 months.
good product, happy with purchase
February 23, 2017
So far so good. Was looking for a "greener" product and this seemed to fit the bill and was very reasonably priced. The biggest one is a moderate size but they all work well for most needs. Mostly liked the fact that the glue they use is non-toxic. Couldn't find that info for most other boards in this price range. I'm using the Caron and Doucet cutting board oil which is mineral oil free. Read a review that said to oil them every day for the first week so I'm still in the process of doing that. Have handwashed several times already and they seem to clean up well. Overall would recommend, but have not had them very long yet.
Good basic bamboo boards. Wish they were thicker.
January 11, 2016
I have recently disposed of my plastic boards and I am replacing them with bamboo for a couple of reasons. 1. I have read research that reveals that they offer just as good of protection as a plastic board because they don't have cutting grooves from the knife. I do plan to keep one board for only raw meat and sanitize with a 1/3 part vinegar solution. 2. Plastic boards warp easily especially when placed in the dishwasher, which is really the reason most people use plastic. I have found that I don't replace my plastic boards as often as I should to maintain their sanitary effectiveness.I have given these boards a 4/5 star rating because I wish they were a little thicker. I like a heavier board so that it doesn't move around. They were a good price and despite that I have to "season" them with oil for the first week or so, I still think they are a good deal. I would have given them 5 stars if they were thicker.

The blades work well enough, but most of the knives have a plastic handle that seems only too likely to inevitably cause problems. I think it's a better investment to go with the more expensive set that is completely forged or metal.

October 17, 2016
We just purchased these knives, because the last order we placed for a Stainless Steel Cuisinart set started rusting right after we used them. We thought these would be better since they listed dishwasher safe on Amazon (although the directions in the box itself said to not place them in the dishwasher). There was one we've been using, didn't run it through the dishwasher, but did have it placed in the basket. We pulled it out today before it got ran through and it was already rusted! There is rust up and down the knife. We are extremely disappointed, especially because of what we went through with the last set we really liked.
I did like the product when it arrived
August 23, 2016
I did like the product when it arrived. Looks sleek, works nicely. 2 years in and I have a broken knife (while cutting cheese). I see others have had the same issue. Is two years too much to ask?
Nice Set of Knife, but the chef knife let me down :(
December 5, 2015
My wife and I were excited about this set when we received it.Cutting and dicing have been effortless since. In the middle of my cooking today (after six month), I found that the cutting edge of the chef knife got broken. I was very disappointed because it was not when I started and I used just to cut meat.
They look nice and the price is low
September 4, 2015
They look nice and the price is low. The chef's knife is the highlight of the set though. The other main knives are fine, but I'm disappointed in the steak knives because they look and feel cheap. The main knives are made of steel and some kind of hard plastic that has been sanded down to be flush with the steel. These marks are noticeable when examined. The steak knife handles appear to be some cheap plastic mold that wasn't trimmed properly. The steak knives are light weight, and thus, feel cheap even though the blade looks decent. The wood block is nice though. This set isn't too expensive and you get what you pay for.
Very thin blade..
March 7, 2014
I bought this from an independent seller on Amazon. The knife arrived bent in 3 places. It had been shipped in a large padded envelope. They issued me a full refund, but beware - this knife is very thin, like 3/16". It's more like sharpened sheet metal. If you bend it, it won't spring back to it's original shape, it will stay a little bit bent - I actually bent it back in to straightness by hand (still not 100% straight though. It did arrive VERY sharp though, and in that respect it's good.Another thing is that because it's so thin, certain things will stick to the sides of the blades when cutting - like potatoes and things with large surface area, because the knife has very little "wedge" angle. I gave it 3 stars because of the price and sharpness, and because it's full tang and looks nice. The "sheath" is cheap but functional, so that's good. If you're on a shoestring budget this knife isn't horrible, but you can probably find a better one in the same price range.

February 25, 2016
I have been using a little blue plastic knife sharpener that is of the same type as this one, but a small palm-size plastic hex design with rubber on the faces that you use to steady it against the counter while sharpening. I keep it in the corner of my drawer. It worked so well that I though I should get a bit of an upgrade to this one that sits steadily on the counter because I sharpen my knives almost every time I use them. I used this a few times and it just doesn't work well enough. I've found myself continuing to use the old one. I tried to find the item I got in order to recommend it, but it appears that they don't make it anymore. Bummer.

January 26, 2016
Seems to work well for most knives I have. However it WILL NOT work on an 7" high end knife or my big chef knife I use. Assuming the angle of those two blades are different then the rest. The smaller knife of the two is a wusthof and was very expensive. But you can tell when running along both sides of the sharpener that it's not doing anything (has a different sound) and it won't get it sharp. Very disappointed because this knife is my best one and the one I really needed this for. I am going to keep it because it works on the her knives. Just not those 2.
This thing works......my goofy story.
July 29, 2015
I'm not proud of this - but I have never owned a knife sharpener and i cook a lot. So I started with this little baby. I like that it has a groove on the bottom for placing on the edge of the counter. I did find I had pull it through the course and fine side at least 15 times each side. Probably due to the fact I'm a goofball who never sharpened her knives! It did make a difference after I got the hang of it. Now I keep it in a drawer under my knife block. Before I put them away, I just run it through this little tool. My knives are much sharper now.
Decent Knife sharpener
April 28, 2015
I personally do not use this type of sharpener for myself. This was purchased for my father who I was visiting and has quite a few very seriously dull knives that cuts like a butter knives....Pros:1. It does as advertised2. Rubber V-grip on bottom3. Solid build4. PriceCons:1. Very small, grip on side is just big enough for a child.2. V-Grip (Most counter tops are now rounded edges)3. Slight bit of moisture on grip can cause a severe injury during use4. Cleaning the item is a pain5. Longevity of use may be at question

When I took them out of the packaging they smelled like they were just rubbed with salmon or some sort of disgusting fish.Other than that, boards are okay.
NOT AS EXPECTED, EXTREMELY LIGHT WEIGHT!
September 22, 2016
They are very good, but only for light cutting and shopping due to its very thin and very very light weigh. I do not recommend this set at all because you will be very disappointment when you see and feel how light and thin they are.
Gift
July 1, 2016
I purchased these boards with the thought of giving them as a wedding gift. When I received them I had trouble deciding if I should let them go or not since they are beautiful. I did notice that they didn't give you care instructions so I went online and looked up the best care for them and included that with them. When you have special care for a certain type of wood it would be nice to have that included in the packaging. We received a thank you telling us how they loved them and I will be checking back with them to see how they are holding it for them.
They were nice once I modified them.
March 3, 2016
I routed a handle into the smaller board as it's difficult to hang if you don't. The middle board has developed a crack in the handle and if we're not careful it pinches you when you use it... They are starting to show some wear after 2 years of use. I might re surface them in my planer and then cut them up to make edge grain cutting boards...

Looks nice, but doesn't hold up to real world use
August 14, 2017
I have not been happy with these since I bought them nearly 3 years ago. Within 6 months of purchasing, rust spots developed on several of the blades and we hand-dry all of them when done cleaning them. They are very difficult to keep sharp, no matter how often I sharpen them. Today was the last straw - the scissors that come with them simply broke into two pieces, failing at the pin where they join. The joint just completely rusted to the point where it fell apart. There's no way to remove water from the joint so there's not much you can to avoid this. I can't recommend this product.

I was using Chicago butcher knife for almost 10 years. I became a big fan of Chicago cutlery since then. Recently i was looking to upgrade and bought Belmont 3-piece set. The butcher knife is no where close to the original one i bought long time back. I hardly used it for 2 yrs now. it chipped at the center. I presume the quality of belmont has been seriously compromised.I'm totally disappointed with my decision and i wouldn't recommend this product to anyone.
Looks and feels good, but doesn't hold up
October 4, 2016
Needed a heavier cleaver and here it is! Excellent workmanship for the price.Edit after additional use: Have to change this rating. Used this cleaver several times with satisfaction, until this evening trying to cut a steak bone in two for the hounds, and the cleaver edge splintered, leaving metal fragments in the bone. The cleaver looks good, but the metal isn't up to par with the uses a tool like this sees.
Chicago Cutlery Belmont 16-Piece Block Knife Set
May 5, 2016
For the price I paid for this knife set, I'm disappointed. The variety of knives in here are good; standard. The knives are EXTREMELY sharp (in fact, I accidentally cut off a large chunk of the tip of my thumb shortly after getting them - GROSS!), but with a few uses, they became extremely dull and pretty much need to be sharpened before every single use now, so they don't stay sharp for very long, which is annoying. When you need a knife for dinner, you want to just be able to pull the knife out and use it, not sharpen it first. The scissors were dull from the very beginning and are close to being useless at this point. No where in the Amazon description does it say that these cannot be put in the dishwasher. If I had known that I probably wouldn't have even purchased them. I only found out after opening the box. Even hand washing with mild dish soap and the handles stopped looking nice and shiny, and now look dull & grey, instead of black and shiny. They also look like they have hard water spots on them, even though I've always washed and dried immediately after use. The block that they are sitting in gets SO easily scratched and scraped up, so it already looks like cheap crap. For the price I paid for these knives, I'm really disappointed and don't recommend them to anyone else. Look for something nicer.

February 11, 2016
It was not what I expected. The picture showed a much richer style of knives than what arrived. In the picture to me it looked like the handles of the knives were clean smooth and classy... The metal parts looking very strong to handle. The actual knives are seem like cheap plastic handles.. Nothing that I would put out for a nice dinner with friends. And certainly not in class with a typical BBQ or anything like that. It was just your typical cheap looking knife set..I purchased my knives on a special of the day so they were a few dollars cheaper than the now advertised $49.00.... But if I had paid todays price I most definitely would have returned them before pulling the wood block out of the box. They're just knives... Nothing more.
Buyer beware!!!!!!!

The first Chicago cutlery set I purchased was perfect. The block was immaculate. I liked it so much I bought another. The second and third Chicago Cutlery set I purchased, I had to return both. There were defects in the block. Amazon was great in picking up both packages, FREE! Thank you Amazon. I tried one more time. The fourth Chicago cutlery set I purchased had minor block defects;however one of the knifes had crap all over it;like someone used it to eat with. I cleaned the knife and water stains remained on it. I was so frustrated with Chicago Cutlery (which is usually so good) I kept it because I did not want to put it back in the packaging. Please be aware of what you are buying. There is a reason the price on this item is much less than other retailers.

Don't waste your money on this
August 6, 2017
Not what I expected. I bought this to sharpen the knives in my kitchen. Unfortunately, it doesn't do the job well. It takes to TOO long to sharpen the knife. I went to Ikea and bought this little $9.00 sharpener and it totally kicked this one in the butt! Don't waste your money on this. And before you think to yourself, "Does this guy even know how to use a sharpener?' Trust me bud, I know how and I'm telling you this one sucks.
this really sucks at sharpening knives
January 9, 2016
Honestly, this really sucks at sharpening knives. I believe some of the reviews on here are people that have never had a sharp knife or took care of a sharp knife. If you have a really really dull knife I could see this having some benefit but its not going to work miracles. I always use a honing steel (aka butchers steel) before using any of my kitchen knives and they don't get dull. The angles of this sharpener seem to have ruined some of the edges on some of my nice knives and they are much harder to keep honed now. I probably don't know exactly what I'm doing but I'd recommend looking at a more professional grade and more expensive sharpener.
Not a clean edge... oh well.
January 3, 2016
Eh, it kind of ruined our knife we tested on it. It left jagged edges and it surely was not a clean sharpened edge. Boyfriend (aka the blade master) did a paper cutting test with the finished knife and it was tugging and ripping the paper instead of slicing it cleanly- no matter the amount of honing even with the fine finishing ceramic would fix it. It just continued to be jagged and catch on the paper fibers instead of slicing cleanly.Overall it works but I recommend you don't use it unless you aren't confident enough to use something better.
It's alright.. Good example of where price predicts quality.
August 27, 2015
Kind of works. The coarse side shreds the blade, while the fine does a decent job of polishing it. Although the slivers may still remain on the edge itself. Dangerous for your fingers or food. Make sure you wipe the slivers off (best done with a soft wood block, under an angle). The fine side is made of two stone pillars which are supposed to spin, but do won't always - as in my case, where only one spins.
but this is not a super sharpener. I could not sharpen my pocket knife ...
March 28, 2015
Just repeating some of the reviews, but this is not a super sharpener. I could not sharpen my pocket knife the way recommended. Better results with the knife on the counter, blade up and moving this item across the blade. As others said, do not sharpen high quality, expensive knife with this. This will ruin it.edit: I can't sharpen my kitchen knife with this. Instruction or no, I am staying away from this kind of sharpener with v-positioned scrapers. Youtube guy really like Echo (no longer exists I think) sharpener with wheels instead of scrapers. I'll give that a try.
Ineffective and left scratches on my knives
February 15, 2015
Not crazy about this device. We have a set of Food Network knives we got as a set from a department store. OK, so they are not the best available, I guess, and they got a little dull pretty quickly. Bought this to address that. Not seeing the benefit. After use, the knives are not noticeably sharper and they now have scratches all the way down the blades where this device cut into them. The instructions for use are printed on the back of the plastic packaging, so that you have to destroy them in order to open the device. What are those Amazon return policies again?

Good product, great cause, but poor durability.
October 1, 2017
Great cutting boards that are easy on the knives. The aesthetic of wood while cooking is pleasant compared to plastic counterparts. Despite hand washing them--the medium sized one broke within two months of purchase. Great product with great environmental and ethical benefits of its purchase, but if you are looking for something that will last I would look elsewhere. Their quality is great but their durability is poor.
tiny splinters everywhere!
March 28, 2017
i don't want those in the food. i don't feel comfortable using these. maybe i would use one to serve something but don't trust to cut on it. also, they have a strange chemical smell.
Thin
March 19, 2017
Ehh. One split on the second use, near the handle, but I popped it back in place. I only use it for cold cuts, cheese, and some vegetables. I never run these type of cutting boards through the dishwasher, just use really hot water.
Didn't seem to last.
January 2, 2017
Ordered these and used and washed the boards twice, before the medium sized board began to split at the handle. They also began to developed a bow in the middle of the cutting board. I ordered three different sets of bamboo cutting boards when I ordered these, so that my wife could try them out and we found that the thickest cutting board that we bought was also the best lasting and best performer. This was a nice set, but it just didn't seem to last (3 weeks). Unfortunately this is my very first product review for Amazon, after trying hundreds of different products.
... run them through your dishwasher or you'll have a bad time. 2/5 would not buy again
July 19, 2016
Don't run them through your dishwasher or you'll have a bad time.2/5 would not buy again. Also too many bamboo fibers in my food.
I really liked it when I received these
December 2, 2015
It seem as real bamboo board. I really liked it when I received these, but they started to bend and break into pieces right after a month of use. I want to return these but the return date has passed (the return period is from the day you bought it to a month after). Only if they could last longer. I feel sad I paid for a short term used kitchen boards.

HORRIBLY MADE KNIFE SET!!!
July 7, 2017
Worst purchase I've ever made. The blades started to rust within two weeks of having them. l took care of them as instructed in the users guide. These knives are very poorly made as is the wood block. I called Chicago Cutlery customer service and apparently the lifetime warranty does not cover rust. I will NEVER be purchasing from Chicago Cutlery again, nor will I recommend them to friends and family.SAVE YOUR MONEY AND GO WITH ANOTHER BRAND!!!!
Very dull and don't cut very well at all
March 31, 2017
Very dull and don't cut very well at all. If I hadn't left the box outside (it snowed) I would have returned them. Don't waste your money!
Cheap and Disappointing
March 22, 2017
Even for the low price they are not worth the money. I have treated them extremely well. I hand wash and dry them after every use. This evening, I noticed a strange feeling in the handle when I was chopping lettuce. Upon further inspection, the black on the handle is cracked in numerous places on all three handles. I'm very disappointed. I will be replacing them less than six months after buying them. Not going with Chicago Cutlery again.
Horrible product
December 25, 2016
The wood storage box that is used to hold the knives was stracthed and it looked like it had been used. Many little dings and imperfections all over the wooden holder. While the larger knives seemed to be pretty good quality, the smaller knives are flimsy and dull. They come with a cheap plastic handle that seems like it would not last.
RUSTY knives

Why did I NOT read reviews? My are all rusting.Just like other people, they look like crap and my return window just closed.DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY
Steak Knives too flimsy - count your Knives
June 25, 2015
The wood knife holder is the nicest thing about this knife set.We got only 7 of the 8 steak knives. (They shipped it with one short. )When I used a steak knife to cut a small piece of watermelon - it broke

Don't be cheap. Buy a real sharpener!
September 12, 2017
Generally, I wouldn't even seriously consider buying a tool that I will regularly use at a price that is 1/4th of anything else out there. However, the number of good reviews convinced me to give Kitchen IQ a chance. Well, after sharpening my two recently purchased Victorinox knives a couple times, it actually started to dull them. No kidding, I actually tested them after each round of "sharpening" and it kept getting worse. Not sure how all these reviewers got such wonderful results. My guess is that either they only used it once or twice or they simply do not know what a sharp knife is. In any case, don't be cheap, and buy a real sharpener instead.
Not worth $5!
August 7, 2017
Product very poor quality. Very disappointed but I guess you get what you pay for. Tried to sharpen knives repeatedly but no actual change sharpness.
Dont waste your money
July 5, 2017
I thought this sharpener was great at first and loved its compact size, but after using it a dozen times I noticed my knives were not getting as sharp. After using it another dozen times I threw it out cause my my knife was so dull, I couldn't cut tomatoes without smashing them from the force I was applying.
At the very beginning it worked more or less good but very soon it stopped to sharpen the knives
November 8, 2016
Doesn't sharpen knives at all. I had it for a long time and I used it properly according to manual. At the very beginning it worked more or less good but very soon it stopped to sharpen the knives.
Terrible don't buy
December 23, 2015
Terrible product, I have many knife sharpeners and this is by far the worst one I have ever bought. It actually made my knives duller and without a clean edge. I would not recommend this product at all...!!
knives were often more dull than when we started
October 23, 2015
Not sure why this unit doesn't work, but it definitely doesn't produce a sharp edge on any knife we tried. After many attempts, knives were often more dull than when we started.

large splinters in your food
April 27, 2017
The bamboo splinters off these if you use knives on them. Cutting boards that leave large splinters in your food are not safe, even if they are made of sustainably sourced bamboo.
Break and splinter in a few months.
April 19, 2017
I ordered these cutting boards because they were marked as a best seller, but they are NOT worth the price. Like many of the other reviews note, within a few months of purchase they have all warped and broken. The largest board actually split down the middle and splintered. Bamboo is supposed to be strong and very durable. I'm not sure what this company did during the manufacturing process, but they do not hold up at all. Do NOT buy these boards.
DO NOT PURCHASE THIS PRODUCT.
February 9, 2017
DO NOT PURCHASE THIS PRODUCT. It's not worth it. First of all, they require a lot of care -- you have to buy mineral oil to condition it. When I washed it the first time, the bamboo fibers started coming out. Lots of them. It's frustrating. It is a pain in the butt. This one of the worst products I have ever come across.
Broke after a few months
June 17, 2016
I think that these cutting boards are really great for the price! They are a little thinner than I would have liked, but for the price, these boards are an amazing deal. I cant think of anything negative to say about these boards. They serve their purpose.Disclosure: I received this product at a discount in exchange for my honest review!***updateIt's unfortunate but all three of these cutting boards broke after a few months. I did not even use them that much. In all honesty I can no longer recommend this product.
The longer one cracked within three months even though we ...
April 12, 2016
The longer one cracked within three months even though we oiled the board quite frequently. It does not make it unusable though but still. It's a cracked handle. It has not bent itself yet which is typically an issue with wooden / bamboo boards. Now a year, except the smaller one rest all have broken apart.
Split within month.
August 19, 2015
first week, everything like good.second week, some crack for middle and big board.third week, the handle of middle board has broken.fourth week, the big split to two, we got more one board, lolwe will buy next board must made by wood.
