Great book for kids 10 and up and adults will enjoy it too. Would like to have bigger print though.

Perfect for Kids for projects and for some fun fact reading. I am an adult and enjoyed reading some of the information.

It is very enjoyable to read this book because it has very clear pictures and the texts are large as well.

Sometimes its nice just to have a big book with pictures, similar to what i had in school. The internet is great for quick searches, but it can never replace that encyclopedia feeling ;)

My son, who is 2.5, loves this book. He requested it from a picture on the back of an Animals book also by Smithsonian. He enjoys looking at the pictures, which are great, and likes to hear the facts, too.

Our favorite nonfiction book in the house. Goes great with the publisher's "Space!" book. I can't say enough good things about it. I looked for a long time to find a science book that had the right balance of breadth and depth of coverage along with amazing visuals. This is the one. Our kids take this on every road trip. We'll probably need to buy a new one after a year and half of constant use. It's a well made book, but even a well made book can't put up with this much attention.

Superb very satisfied

My kids love it, so mommy is very happy. When I say get a book to read, this is one of the first ones they go and get. I've gone through it and enjoy the various subject matter myself. I think we need to continue to allow our children to be inquisitive, but properly guided in the right things.

I really like this book a lot. From the pictures to the information. However, I wasnt pleased that when I received it the dust jacket was torn from either packing or shipping. Besides that great buy.

Amazing photography and graphics. A wealth of information presented in an appealing format.I'm sending this as a Christmas gift to a special family on my list. I think they'll all enjoy it.

A very useful reference. Simple enough for general knowledge with plenty of picture references that is fun for the kids, too. Great addition to the small library at home.

I would love to rate this book higher than a 3.Pros: Beautiful book, great illustrations, and as all of the first sections of the book are concerned, Space, Earth, Nature, Human Body, & Science, it is well done and my kids and family will enjoy it very much.Con: The history section is devoid of any mention of Native North Americans. None. As far as Mexico is concerned, the main mention of Tenochtitlan is of course related to human sacrifice, which is fine to mention, but not the most memorable fact about Tenochtitlan, a city that when "discovered" by Cortes was bigger than any European city; a city with markets that Cortes and his men marveled at, so magnificent that some of these Spaniards thought that they might be dreaming. I really thought the Smithsonian would have done a better job representing the cultures and people of the Americas.All in all, great for science, and a great book to help teach my kids learn about historical bias and lack of sufficient and accurate cultural representation.

Full of info, great book full of knowledge for kids BUT it repeatedly only described "the big bang theory" and evolution. Nothing about creation. Even schools now will acknowledge the different beliefs.
