Five Star Reviews: | 84% Could be a life saver. October 2, 2017 Cannot say enough about how this makes trailing a heavy load not only easier, but safer! Would never consider towing our closed 26 foot trailer without this again. Made all the difference in the world. Even helped with pushing going down the mountains of Asheville NC which can be a nerve wracking drive. A little bit of playing around with the number to set it on, just drove around town a bit to see what number we would set it to. Slows you and your haul quickly by activating trailer brakes. I just put this in my truck and it's amazing. If you're still using one of the old/cheap non-porportinal controllers... you need to buy this now. It really works great. You can be just using just a bit of brakes to bleed off some speed and then gradually press down on the peddle and it will gradually increase voltage. It's quite impressive. It's easily adjustable and easy to setup. I can set my brakes twice as high as I used to with my old controller and know that if I get in an emergency my trailer is going to put some serious brakes on instantly. Very happy September 29, 2017 I really wanted the OEM brake controller for my Ram 1500 because it integrated with the dash display and mounted in the dash. But when I found out it would cost in excess of $500.00 I decided to look elsewhere. The Tekonsha had good ratings and for a fraction of th price of the OEM controller. It took twenty minutes to install with the proper adapter and works like a dream. Mounted above the drivers right knee it is easy to use and unobtrusive. Great peace of mind and easy to use. September 16, 2017 Works great, I purchased the adapter for my type of truck and watched a few youtube vids no problem.(I love youtube there's got to be a video that will tell you not to get married to your first wife and if your under 25 you should watch it:-) The unit told me that I was not connected the first time I plugged into bumper plug (great) and was fully on the job after 100 feet of movement. Adjusted to correct load and this has worked without fail. Make sure to install on the lower dash where you can easily reach and see display. Zip tie cables out of your legs/feet way and your all set. rrived quickly and in perfect shape. Works perfectly and easy to install and simple to use September 12, 2017 Arrived quickly in perfect shape. I also purchased the adapter cable for my 1998 Ford F150 XLT 5.4 liter. This brake plugged right into the under dash plug port using the adapter cable I also purchased. The electronic brake module worked perfectly and was surprisingly easy to use the first time out. Simple and easy to follow instructions are included. Has a mount bracket for easy mount just about anywhere within reach of the driver. AOK December 1, 2016 This mounted into my 2003 Tundra easily. Instructions were clear. Connectors mated perfectly. Mounted it low on the dash above the driver's right knee (USA) such that it does not interfere with the driver's legs or feet. Have not tried towing with it yet but I can attest that when connected and powered up it did not have any ill effects on the existing braking system. Looks smart. Took about an hour to install. I provided about a dozen 12" tie wraps to secure all the wiring up under the dash. | 92% Perfect fit and well September 12, 2017 Worked perfectly to adapt the electric brake device (Tekonsha 90160 Primus IQ Electronic Brake Module) to the Ford plug under the dash. This cord is really well made and rugged. It has a protective sleeve that keeps the wires together and neat. Perfect fit November 23, 2016 Worked great when installing my Tekonsha Brake controller in my 2012 Ford F150. Snapped right into place with plenty of length to allow you to place the controller where you want it. Perfect and Simple Install for my 2013 Explorer October 28, 2016 This was a perfect solution for adding a Tekonsha controller to my 2013 Explorer. All that was needed to do was pull the cover panel above the gas and brake pedals and plug in to the harness there - then replace the panel and plug in and mount the controller. I used the Teknosha Primus Tekonsha 90160 Primus IQ Electronic Brake Control controller off of Amazon and it worked perfectly as well. For those curious - I am sure you could cut off the Tekonsha end of the plug and splice up a different controller if needed - it is a 4 wire output to the Tekonsha which is the same as other brake controllers. Quality part! April 8, 2016 Very good quality harness. I ended up chopping it up to splice it to another brand of brake controller I purchased used. Nice connector, good gauge wiring, and protected with braided sheathing. Used on 2005 F150 Supercab 4x4. Connector right under dash above accelerator pedal. | 83% Happy with it. May 19, 2017 Perfect fit for my 2006 GMC with trailering package. Just plugged it in to truck, and brake controller, and done. as described May 7, 2017 fits perfect and does the job. but now I need fourteen more words to describe this product, that is as described FIt perfectly and I was able to setup my brake ... April 25, 2017 FIt perfectly and I was able to setup my brake controller in a matter of minutes. Now I can swap my controller between my vehicles with ease! Quick & Painless Installation! October 11, 2016 Super time-saver and idiot proof (vs. the 4-wire do-it-yourself connector that came with the brake controller). Fits our 2003 Silverado perfectly. Under the dash (above the emergency brake) pop off a black plastic cover that conceals several plug-in ports. There is one to receive the large end of this connector. Plug the small end into the rear of your controller and you are good to go. The length of the adapter was ample to mount our controller to the right of the steering column within easy reach of the driver's right hand. First time to install a brake controller, and it couldn't have been simpler. This one came from the Amazon Warehouse in great shape, just no formal packaging. Highly recommended! Always best to get the right part rather than try to ... January 15, 2016 Always best to get the right part rather than try to fiddle with a cheap-approach.For my 2015 Colorado with the trailering package, the wiring for this was underneath the driver side kick/trim panel. No plug though like the Silverados have, so I just cut the end off this and the accompanying diagram made it very easy to solder-in the harness. Then it just plugged into the back of the Tekonsha brake controller. When I don't need it in the truck, it unplugs and can be stowed. | 93% There are no reviews yet |
Four Star Reviews: | 12% VERY helpful in towing my 14ft trailer across the US ... August 24, 2017 VERY helpful in towing my 14ft trailer across the US & Canada to Alaska. Def made a difference in braking. Works great! Appeared much smaller that the NICER P2 or ... August 4, 2017 Works great! Appeared much smaller that the NICER P2 or P3 controllers (way more advanced), which also work with hydraulic brakes. (not the one I purchased) But I needed (wanted) a unit to fit in a tight place and with a little cutting on vehicle IT FITS as hoped. Definitely much easier than trying to wire in a factory break controller that wasn't pre-wired at the factory. Thank you! Good choice, fine tuning a bit difficult May 9, 2017 Easy to install and worked well this week with both empty trailer and loaded trailer after adjusting setup. Only negative is that adjustment wheel recessed and is a little dificult to make fine adjustments. Great buy right here September 8, 2016 From NY to FL 2008 F150 pulling a 34' TT using this and a blue ox 1k lb WD. Rarely had any squirrelly over-braking (twice that I can remember from the trip). Very pleased. Stop! In the name of love. August 21, 2015 After laying down more warp into my brake rotors than Sulu on the Enterprise, I knew it was time to put trailer brakes on my truck. Based on reviews, I rolled the dice on the Tekonsha 90160 Primus (which, by the way, would be a really great name for the next Transformer robot) and screwed it to my Superduty's dashboard. The wiring was made easy by the Ford's existing harness taped underneath the dash, but the Tekonsha came with a very good wiring diagram regardless. After hooking it up and adjusting it to the trailer, it seems to work very well and goes about its job with magnanimity and good humor. The only drawback I can dwell on is the red LED display; the controller has to be at a very specific angle to see the numbers completely, and at the bottom of the dash, I can't read the top line of the LEDs, even when the device is tilted as far up as it can go. However, I refuse to be a whiny bitch about that too much as the damned thing works just fine.SIDEBAR: A red LED? What is this, 1984? works very well for an all electronic model July 30, 2012 OK, I'm old fashion. I remember when brake controllers screwed right into the master cylinder making them follow the braking force of the truck brakes perfectly. I searched and searched and searched for one of those and they no longer make them (I guess when they came out with ABS it made porting into the master cylinder not really work any more). So I ordered this one and put it in my '69 GMC. It works much better than expected. much better than other aftermarket brake controllers I've had experience with. It doesn't work as well as the old fashion ones I described above and doesn't work quite as well as the integrated one that came in my '10 F150 so I don't give it five stars, but that's a little high expectation. The integrated ones talk directly with the truck computer and there's no way an aftermarket one can do that so I guess this controller gets as high marks as an aftermarket controller can get. Overall very happy | 5% Get one if you buy the controller. August 3, 2017 A necessary accessory for the brake controller, but makes me wonder why it isn't included with the controller purchase. Plugged right into the wiring in the truck and the ... May 13, 2017 Plugged right into the wiring in the truck and the brake controller I bought. Haven't actually used it yet or might rate it a 5. Four Stars January 5, 2017 arrived ahead of schedule. Fit perfectly and allowed me to use my brake controller in another vehicle. | 8% Works as published August 9, 2017 Fit like it should just. Would've been a little nicer if the harness had a heat shrink wrap to keep the wires together, but overall it works. Well made, missing some needed information February 5, 2017 On my 2001 Silverado I had to relocate one of the pins to a different location. The lead for brake activation was going to a pin that stays hot so the brakes were always on when hooked up. It took a lot of head scratching but I figured it out with a test light. Once I switched the pin it worked great. Quick, easy connection. October 8, 2016 Exact fit for the application. Love the plug 'n play connections. Would be a 5 star if the wire harness was a little longer. It was easy to install July 25, 2016 This fit and worked well in my 2003 GMC Sierra. It was easy to install, but on many trucks (including mine) you need to make some wiring changes under the hood, at the fuse block, to power the brake portion of the towing harness. The internet was very helpful in instructions on how to do this. I would have liked a longer pigtail July 8, 2016 Connectors well worth the money. I would have liked a longer pigtail. Maybe could have reached the infrequently used cubbies in the middle of the Chevy dash. This way works too... Yes it is up on the dash but well out of any line of sight. Great to keep an eye on such an important safety function when the truck is loaded! *I did end up disassembling the Tekonsha end to fit thru the small hole, went back together very easily! | 4% There are no reviews yet |
Three Star Reviews: | 2% Any help would be great. September 2, 2017 can't get it to show that it is connected. Checked everything with a light and it shows it all works, but can't get the N.C. to go off.Any help would be great. Good, the functional issue could be my brakes. October 31, 2016 It seams good, have a toy-hauler popup and it didn't seam to provide the breaking power or affect as thought it should. With that said, I have yet to blow apart the trailer brakes to see if the previous owners over greased the hubs and loaded the shoes and drums full of grease. Therefore, only three starts for now until I can inspect the trailer breaks. Impart because even maxed out, the trailer would skid the tires empty, which is BS !!! I have barrow my buddies 25-ft box trailer for a project and it will lock up the trailer tires with full load. Three Stars September 27, 2016 came through with spring broken, you made right, also didn't have pigtail This device works alright after it's set up for the ... May 1, 2016 This device works alright after it's set up for the trailer you are using. I would not buy again however because the blue button on top that is the boost selector falls down and into the housing any time you press it. This is a pain since I then have to take apart to put the button back in place. I've done this a handful of times over the span of a few months. Cheaply Built, Bad Button June 29, 2014 The blue button fails often. The unit works well but is very cheaply built. I would look for something else. | 1% Does not fit 06-09 Range rovers July 25, 2015 The part is well made but it does NOT fit Full sized range rovers. It is listed to fit 06-09 range rover and there is no pre wired plug under the dash. | 3% Works, wish it was longer September 5, 2017 The length of this only allows you to place it in a couple of places. I wish it was longer, allowing more placement flexibility. Otherwise it worked as I'd expect. Plug and play July 18, 2016 It would of been a snap but I received the wrong adapter but amazon got me the right one at no charge. The adapters snap into your brake circuit board and hook directly into your brake controller.. It's a lot better than using the provided wiring with the brake controller. Model/year specific part January 30, 2016 My bad, it did not fit my 1999 Chevy truck. But upon review of the original description, it wasn't supposed to. Otherwise, it would have made installation of the brake controller a no-brainer. | 1% There are no reviews yet |
Two Star Reviews: | 0% Was expecting more . June 9, 2016 Easy install IF you buy the harness .. The harness that came from the factory with my Chevy Avalanche is not for the amature installer to figure out ..hauling a light 13' trailer about 2500 lbs and both settings at max and at the 25 miles an hour that is receded to do any adjustments... It was veeeeerry soft .. It does stop eventually but I don't imagine it would be any help on s heavier trailer . I thought that at even half way bring do light it would be locking the wheel .. Not sure if it's the quality of the unit or that's the way it's supposed to perform cause it's my very first unit I ever tried of it might take time to " break in ".. Who knows .. Some issues February 15, 2014 I had to and the first one back, and the replacement is not working properly now. The button on the top gets stuck and it messes up your settings. I would not buy again. Shorted out after 2 years June 27, 2013 At least that's the assessment. Two years normal use, maybe 25-30 trips. Would connect at start-up and show meter / B1, but then short and show "n.c.". Replaced with a new controller and brakes working fine so far. | 0% There are no reviews yet | ||
One Star Reviews: | 2% Bad voltage on new controller September 28, 2017 Some items should be allowed to return past 30 days...ie-brake controller for trailer. I took the trailer out with installed controller. The brakes didn't seem to work well. So I take it to a garage and they tell me the controller is not delivering enough volts to activate the brakes on my trailer. I've had it for about 6 weeks and it cost me money at the mechanic shop to tell me this! It takes time to test, try-out and check certain items. Please contact me and let me return or exchange the brake controller! NOT HAPPY September 26, 2017 This product arrived and did not work. However, you could only return it for up to thirty days so I can not get a refund. NOT HAPPY! frustated! July 14, 2017 we have been working with the manufacture on this product and after receiving a replacement unit, the replacement unit still is not working properly..... bad display July 5, 2017 The display has slipped down and is obstructed. The screen is hard to read. Very disapointed. BUYER BEWARE!!!!!! June 30, 2016 Make sure you get the right part you are looking for. They rip you off with paying for their shipping, a 20 percent restocking fee and your shipping costs upon return. It cost me 75 dollars between all three of these. Buyer Beware Defective October 30, 2015 When I had this part installed it didn't work at all, it was defective and I had to purchase another one locally. Now I find out it is past the return date, but a product like this should have some kind of guarantee or warranty.
