Five Star Reviews: | 67% Cost effective controller September 22, 2017 Had to fiddle with it a little at first but it handles both my trailers. I did have to buy the harness extra so make sure you get it the first time around. Great controller. September 20, 2017 Bought to help slow my 30' travel trailer. Works great and didn't need to be leveled.Total install took me 10 minutes (with Curt pigtail). Hardest part was putting the cover back over the fuse panel correctly. Don't Tow without it ! September 9, 2017 Got a new pop up trailer w/electric brakes. I was going to skip wiring them in but I'm glad I didn't. Now, I cannot recommend enough a brake controller for safety and handling. This Curt unit works just fine with my 1,600 lb trailer though it is a little touchy to adjust. Once dialed in though, it works perfectly. If you have electric brakes on a towed unit, get a brake controller, for your safety and others on the road. Thanks. Works Great - July 4, 2017 East to install if you can read directions.Worked great pulling our pop up (2000 lbs) up and down mountains at Pigeon Forge TN.Something bigger probably would warrant a better controller but great for my situation. Wonderful controller especially for price April 24, 2017 Wonderful controller especially for price. Works 100%, easy to use plug and play configuration.Works great with matching wiring harness.Pulling a 26ft 5,000lb camper. Awesome!! August 28, 2016 Great controller for little money. Installed in 15 minutes using Curts 51352 harness for true plug-and-play in my Suburban. Worked flawlessly pulling a 6000 lb dual axle travel trailer (with 4 brakes). Easy to adjust on the fly. I highly recommend it. | 79% Worth the money. Best one ive used June 16, 2017 Easy to install and one of the best ones I've used. The sensitivity goes much lower than more expensive units I've tried. Great quality. I'd buy again Works great March 26, 2017 I occasionally tow campers or boats as a side job. This brake controller gets the job done 100%. No problems yet and I will update if any arise. Excellent Product. April 25, 2016 I purchased the Reese Towpower based on previous reviews and price. I have brake controllers in four other vehicles and I love this one. I never tow anything more than 2 axle (except for with my F350) and this controller works great in my Excursion. Excellent buy - I would purchase again if needed. |
Four Star Reviews: | 19% Pretty good brake controller. Great price! March 21, 2017 After playing with the controls, I dialed the controler in just right. I left one star off because the controls are very sensitive. The low setting worked the best. Anything higher and the trailer was stopping the truck. Don't forget to buy a wiring harness. For the price not bad wish I would of spent little more money on ... March 10, 2017 stickey control on setting #1 trailer jerks you around a little didn't need the pig tail I ordered with it. For the price not bad wish I would of spent little more money on a better one, but It works Nice and basic for what I needed. October 24, 2016 Mounted this up in my 2004 Lexus GX with the corresponding wiring harness for that vehicle. Install was super easy with that wiring harness. I just wanted something basic as my camper trailer is single axle and pretty light. It might take a little while to find your sweet spot for the power and delay time, but just follow the simple instructions if you've never done it before. Works Well for the Reasons Needed - Nothing Fancy - Safe September 28, 2016 Went in quickly - is REALLY touchy though so does not need a high setting to work well. We use it on about the lowest setting and it does a fine job without jerking to a stop - anything higher, it begins to jerk. We are pulling a 3H Exiss with 10' LQ - I trust it with my precious cargo - horses Good Value & Performance September 26, 2016 Installed (easily) in a 2016 Chevy Colorado towing a Travel Trailer. More sensitive vs. prior units as I really need to have this one dialed way down to keep the brakes from locking up quickly but once I found the sweet spot it seems to be working well.....arguably better than a more expensive model I had in a different vehicle.Overall I think its a good value. Would actually give one additional 1/2 star (if it would let me give 1/2 stars) with the only deduction so far being the sensitivity (and I am not sure if that's the truck, the trailer or the controller). Like I said, its dialed down to almost the lowest point on both settings to be effective. Anything more than that, especially on the power, and the brakes lock up. | 9% works great. if you are only going to pull one ... July 26, 2016 works great. if you are only going to pull one trailer, this will do the job very well. But if you have several get a digital Four Stars June 3, 2016 plugs in if your truck has the tow package, fits inside dash looks factory. works very well Brake Controller May 24, 2016 works well with travel trailer, is very sensitive setting brake pressure. It works as advertised. All I needed was some ... May 1, 2016 It works as advertised. All I needed was some small electrical connectors, to plug into the back of the unit. |
Three Star Reviews: | 4% Should have spent more and got better one. August 12, 2017 slide adjustments are very touchy, difficult to get set where I want it without over adjusting, But for the price it works. Should have spent more and got better one. Hit the brakes! June 8, 2017 Works...very inexpensive Curt unit to use with the Curt brake adapter cable.VERY touchy...It took forever to get it set. You can literally breathe on it and the brakes will squeal. Once you get it adjusted you're good. This was my first device so it may be me.VERY simple with green or red LEDs. Easy to use and understand (wish the controls weren't so touchy).I'm using this on a 2560 pound single axle travel trailer that has electric brakes (Coachmen Clipper 15FL) and, to be honest, I could probably get by with out it. It does stop the trailer quickly and in a straight line. No pulling The instructions on how to adjust it for breaking could be alot better. October 25, 2016 Wish I had known it does not come with a wiring harness. The instructions on how to adjust it for breaking could be alot better. For the price, not a bad controller November 6, 2013 This time delay controller is hard to adjust. I have used it with both my horse trailer and my travel trailer. It is okay on the freeway and open roads, but with stop and go traffic it makes for very jerky stops. GOOD VALUE FOR PRICE April 14, 2010 PRODUCT WAS EASY TO INSTALL BUT INSTRUCTIONS THAT CAME WITH PRODUCT WERE LACKING IN DETAIL. IN THE OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS IT TELLS YOU TO REFER TO PAGE 16 AND THERE IS NO PAGE 16.PRICE WAS THE BEST I COULD FIND ON NET. | 6% Wires terminate in custom connector April 12, 2017 Just got it tonight, it has wires out of the controller to a 4 pin custom connector. I have a harness for my truck but I guess I will have to cut off the connector and splice the wires together. I guess I had hoped for them to already end in something I could splice into an existing harness. this would be my second one of there they do ... September 20, 2016 this would be my second one of there they do there job but 3 starts for this one due to missing screws CAUTION: MUST ORDER ADAPTER December 16, 2015 CAUTION: MUST ORDER ADAPTER I have 2002 f250 7.3 Amazon said it'll fit my vehicle which it does NOT without wire adapter. Other then that very simple and effective productWhat you see is everything that is included Haven't hooked it up yet but when I opened the ... March 20, 2015 Haven't hooked it up yet but when I opened the package I realized it didn't even come with the screws to hold the mount to the unit...I figured that would be with it at least. |
Two Star Reviews: | 4% CHEAPLY DESIGNED. I would NOT RECOMMEND this product. August 13, 2016 Quality is just not there. The Output Switch is very cheap designed and does not adjust consistently. Mounting hardware is also built to a minimal standard. I would NOT RECOMMEND this product. not made in the USA like the product description says April 16, 2016 not made in the USA like the product description says, it is made in the Philippines ... it hooked up easy enough but i am not happy about it being made in the pacific rim. iT IS WAY OVER RATED.. April 3, 2014 THE WIRE SIZE FOR 6 BRAKES MUST BE A SIZE 10 FOR 30 AMPS OF LOAD! tHIS cURT cONTROLLER IS WIRED WITH SIZE 12 GAUGE WIRE WHICH IS ONLY GOOD FOR 20 AMPS OR FOUR BREAKS. i am ASE certified, a member of NSA for over 40 years. with a degree in Automotive Engineering and a degree in Physics. They need to rate it for what it is, 4 Brakes or two axels. | 3% Spend a little more get a little better June 16, 2014 Bought it and installed it, it worked sometimes for about a week then turned off one day and never turned back on Applies brakes very choppy April 17, 2014 Installation was easy, no issues with that. The problem I have is how it applies the brakes to the trailer. There is no gradual application of the brakes with this controller, It only applies them in steps so you really feel when the brakes are applied to the trailer (especially at low speeds). It also applies the brakes very strong; even at the medium setting with a enclosed fully loaded 16' trailer, the brakes locked up when applied. I had to put it to one of the lowest settings for it not to lock up. Deceptive information November 2, 2011 Even after using the does this fit my car information and being told it does fit my 2003 Dodge Ram 1500, it doesn't without a wiring adaptor from Reese part number 22281. The information on this item said just plug it in and it will work. This is not possible with the connector on the unit.Amazon needs to review the other controllers for missing or misleading information. |
One Star Reviews: | 6% The first time I go to use it it didn't ... September 6, 2017 The first time I go to use it it didn't work defective product Do not waste your money. August 27, 2017 It shorted out the first day I used it. I started getting a red light every time I tried the brakes and the brakes would lock up. I bought a different brand Tekonsha which worked like a dream. It's more expensive but I can't believe how much better it is and worth it. Poor quality. Broken right out of the box. April 4, 2017 Did not work right out of the box. Always had 9 volts at my trailer plug, even with the key out of the ignition. I bought a different brand controller and works it perfectly in my truck. Pretty disappointed always had good products from CURT guess the price reflects the quality. One Star August 31, 2016 Took about 2 hours to install. Once installed it started smoking and no longer worked. Very disappointing. horrible May 13, 2016 Its horrible..as soon as I put a load on it by pulling my trailer..it broke...total waste of money. It's a fake March 18, 2015 After I received this part I noticed that it was a made in Chinese piece of crap I plugged it up and smelt something burning . The label was crooked and felt like a plastic shell | 3% Reese products seem to be hit or miss. Some folks get a great product at a great price, but I got a bunch of headaches. June 25, 2017 I ordered this unit specifically because it is supposed to be plug and play with my Nissan Frontier. I read through ALL of the reviews and questions and was reasonably confident that this unit should plug right in and work. Instead of arriving with a wiring harness matching my truck it arrived with just pigtails (no connector at all). The wires had divits in them that were obviously from a connector having been attached to them at one point in the past which was subsequently removed. This makes me suspect that this unit was actually returned to the manufacturer and then sold to me (I did not order a referb unit, I paid for new). From reading other reviews on this product it seem like a very common occurrence to either not have a connector or to not have the advertised connector, so be ware. It seems like Reese has very sloppy inventory control and ships you "something" close to what you asked for. So I spent yet more money to buy a matching harness and crimped it to the pigtails. The unit is now installed in the truck. As I've also read in the reviews, there's no indication that the unit is powered or even functional unless a trailer is attached. So again, be ware. Since I don't pick up the trailer until 2 days before our vacation I won't know if I did the wiring correctly or even know if the (possibly referb) unit is even functional until it will be too late to return it. I may just be going without brakes on our vacation. In that case anyone who wants this unit can find it somewhere in a ditch next to I84 between Portland and Boise. |
