Five Star Reviews: | 52% There are no reviews yet | 81% Very easy July 1, 2017 I'm a noob diy'er and I loved how easy it was to cut up the dry wall with this. I was expecting it to be much harder. The lines were clean. It's a solid product. Sharp and comfortable May 9, 2017 Love the cushioned grip. Sharp teeth stay that way after 2 months of use so far. 4 more xx words. Five Stars April 6, 2017 Great product. Very thick and strong materials. Still hard work cutting the drywall though. Definitely need some muscles! It's a jab saw. A good one, but it's not a complicated tool. If you like the features, buy it. January 5, 2017 The Stanley 20-556 FatMax Jab Saw is an inexpensive, well made Jab Saw for probably anyone with a use for such a tool. I was going to say that perhaps a professional should choose a better tool, but because nobody I know sharpens these things and you cut through all kinds of drywall and crap I look at it as mostly disposable once you wear it out. That said, I don't plan on needing another one in the next 10-15 years due to how often I use a tool like this and it's totally sufficiently durable construction. Garden Roots! Meet Your Match! May 30, 2014 Jab saws are often used to cut drywall but I found a better use! When planting on your knees, and come across a thumb-thick root and don't want to bother standing and getting a big heavy shovel, this saw blade knife, hacks through roots quickly. Be sure to always put this knife away or put in soil with handle up. The wet conditions will make this knife rust quick so take it inside, or rinse and dry.The price was better than in the big box hardware stores. The large rubber handle is perfect for garden conditions where moisture on a wood handle will cause slipping. | 0% There are no reviews yet | 0% There are no reviews yet | 0% There are no reviews yet |
Four Star Reviews: | 5% | 14% Perfect for it's job April 26, 2017 This cut was able to cut through dry will like it was bread. Made my job mounting a TV on the wall extremely easy. Only problem is it got slightly damp and rusted overnight. Doesn't effect performance just annoying. Four Stars March 7, 2017 The drywall knife works great but had to buy an extra sheet for hints four stars. The blade is very rigid making it easy to "jab" though wall board February 4, 2015 The blade is very rigid making it easy to "jab" though wall board. I recommend using a forceful push as opposed to a jab for safety. The saw teeth are designed to handle wall board very easily and it can be turned in any direction without much effort.Someone just asked if the "cut will be smooth?" Yes, it is made for dry wall. I used it not long ago and it is very easy to control. Bottom line, the hole you cut will be hidden with an appropriate plate to match your connections and the edge of the cut out will be behind the plate. Cuts thru plywood September 30, 2011 I bought this to cut thru the false back on a shelf that was made of plywood. It cut thru in no time and left a pretty smooth edge as well. I did drill out a starter hole for it before cutting. Handle was rather comfortable for a hand saw as well. Surprisingly Strong & Effective January 14, 2010 I was creating a couple of openings for new electrical sockets in my home; I had started them by drilling smaller holes around the area I needed to saw out, and though I was using a fairly sharp drill bit, it was quite a task to drill all the way through the 2-layer, 1" thick drywall I was up against. Enter Fat Max... and I mean that literally. That little sucker tore through that drywall like it was French bread, and I was done with both openings in less than five minutes, with much less effort than I expected it to be. This is my first experience using a saw like this, and its ease of use is already giving me more ideas for home improvement. My landlord will just have to deal with it..... | 0% There are no reviews yet | 0% There are no reviews yet | 0% There are no reviews yet |
Three Star Reviews: | 14% Still getting the hang of it, just fiddled with ... July 30, 2016 Still getting the hang of it, just fiddled with it a bit. But will update when used a bit more time. Seems to work fine on regular drywall surfaces May 30, 2016 Purchased from Home Depot for locating studs behind tiled walls of shower. I wanted to install a grab bar. The HD800 was inaccurate/could not get a clear reading on vertical studs. I specifically bought this since it advertised it could find studs behind tile. Seems to work fine on regular drywall surfaces. Won't find studs reliably January 14, 2016 Got this as a xmas gift. Was excited to try it as my 10 year old stud finder just wasn't cutting it anymore. Bought a new 9 v Duracell battery. Used it on a 3/4" thick drywall to find a stud to hang some shelving units. Held the unit against the wall, pushed the button, waited for 3 sec and moved the unit slowly to the right with only one hand holding the device. Indicated a stud was found but must have been a narrow one (less than 1 inch wide). Continued to move to the right another 3-4 inches. Then moved the unit to the left retracing the path it had already taken. Didn't find the same stud. Tried this numerous times. Still didn't reliably find the stud. But where it did indicate a stud was located I hammered a nail into the region (NO STUD). Tried it in several locations where it indicated a stud was found. NO STUD.I read the instructions, and used a thin piece of cardboard thinking this would help. It didn't. Considering how much this thing cost it ought to work a lot better than NOT AT ALL!!! Sorry Zircon, but this thing is as useful as a glass hammer.Updated Feb 20, 2016: Zircon left feedback to my original post to call them which I did. They gave me some suggestions which seemed to help to reliably find a stud. Note, the wall I am scanning is not smooth drywall, but has a textured or orange-peel effect. That may be part of the problem. Nevertheless, it is too bad that these additional instructions aren't included with the product packaging. One other note. After you place the tools next to the wall and turn on the power it is supposed to 'beep' according to the instructions on the back of the tool. Mine doesn't. And if you turn it on and the 'arrow' symbol appears, you have placed the tool on top of a stud. This occurs not matter where the tool is placed. So I am changing my star rating to a '3' and will once again call Zircon for further help. | 3% Ok for the money, but feels cheap October 1, 2017 Feels cheap, sharp though. I will put my money into a nicer saw when I wear out this guy. Sharp but not for tight spaces with limited space March 2, 2015 Very sharp, but the big teeth require a long stroke. Didn't work for what I needed it for but will hang onto it anyway. Works fairly well. December 2, 2014 Works fairly well, however it was already beginning to rust when it arrived like DeWalt, has been going south for a while ... September 23, 2014 I've abused this thing badly. I've asked it to do things that it wasn't meant to do. And it's done well. Its okay. But Stanley, like DeWalt, has been going south for a while now... I've smashed out a lot of stuff with this thing for about a year? I'm about to replace it. Its okay, but it ain't great. | 0% There are no reviews yet | 0% There are no reviews yet | 0% There are no reviews yet |
Two Star Reviews: | 10% There are no reviews yet | 2% I expected better from the other reviews September 5, 2016 I expected better from the other reviews. I haven't used it much, just was using it and it was surprisingly dull. I don't think any of my guys were particularly mean to it from the looks of things.I wouldn't buy it again for professional use, fine for a homeowner. Great little tool September 14, 2015 Great little tool, but somehow I managed to bend/kink it in the first few uses. Could use a slightly sturdier blade. But still gets the job done. Two Stars December 29, 2014 Should come with some kind of cover for th blade - how to store it safely? its very sharp Really confused... June 17, 2012 Looked good when first received. Nasty looking double set of teeth. Tried on cardboard box. It didn't cut well! I was shocked. My comparison was a serrated knife (a small Spyderco folder) that has less leverage but went through like butter. This one struggled a bit and we sent back. | 0% There are no reviews yet | 0% There are no reviews yet | 0% There are no reviews yet |
One Star Reviews: | 19% Confidence killer. August 26, 2017 Super unreliable. You 'locate' a stud then try to double check and its in a different place. Confidence killed. Going in the bin. It is not working well. (Maybe that one I ... June 3, 2017 It is not working well. (Maybe that one I bought was a defect product.) It is totally not able to find a stud. Don't buy. January 16, 2017 Don't bother with this. It doesn't work. No matter how many times you can run it across known stud locations, it changes readings. This just doesn't work at all. It can only be described as abhorrent garbage. Great for your kids toy box! November 26, 2016 This is a kids toy. It can't be real. It works sure. But randomly.Insane how expensive this kids toy is. According to this I have 79 studs in wall, zero in another. Most expensive kids toy I ever bought my kid. | 0% Doesn't have a sheath or anything so I cut myself ... April 16, 2015 Doesn't have a sheath or anything so I cut myself on it, and then proceeded to throw it in the trash. | 0% There are no reviews yet | 0% There are no reviews yet | 0% There are no reviews yet |
