I just finished another project with this drill, and I could not be more pleased.1.) I had all the power I needed for the project.2.) I had all the speed I needed for the project.I found the hammer to be very useful on the drilling projects that need the extra umph to make a deeper hole.My one battery has been plenty to carry me through my work, but if you find your work is an all-day affair, you may want to order an additional battery.I purchased this drill eight months ago, and intentionally delayed a review to give me time to work with it. After too many projects to count, I highly recommend the Makita OPH012 18V LXT. I didn't even mention the light that shines on the area where you are screwing and/or drilling, which I initially thought was just a fancy come-on. If you gently squeeze the trigger (without activating the drill), light will go on, so you have time to see where your screw head is, or the mark for the hole you want to drill. Even the weight of the drill is light, relative to other products on the market.I try to list "cons" on write-ups, but were I in the market for a drill today, there would be no additional features that I could conjure up to purchase.

I had been given an 18V drill by another manufacturer, but that drill had no torque control. It failed to drive wood screws 1.75 inches long, making me think about ripping out the screws or living with poorly driven screws in a shelf. But happily I bought this Makita drill and a set of 70 Makita bits. The drill and bits easily drove the screws in the rest of the way. Easily completed the rest of my driving tasks, too. Saved me from a poor quality finish, and pack up and store well, too. Would recommend Makita to anyone.

My husband picked out this drill because our place is all concrete. He says it works well and has a lot of power. He has drilled into concrete and metal and it has been easy. Other hammer drills on the market have the additional side handle, which would provide extra force and stability but he says this drill is more than enough. We have used this to mount photo's and window curtain bars. It also works great as a regular drill for phillips/flat head screws and the flashlight is a nice addition.TONS of adjustments.....there are torque adjustments and the next adjustment for Hammer/Screw/Battery; there is also a switch on top for speed 1 or 2. You can also adjust the speed by pulling the trigger more or less.Since we've only used it a few times so far, the battery probably hasn't gone down much but I will update my review when it needs to be charged. The carry case is big and bulky but has specific spaces for the drill, battery, and charger. Not sure what the other spaces are for but thats where my husband puts extra Tapcon screws. The whole set for the "Hitachi 728493 General Purpose Drill And Drive Bit Set, 83-Piece" also fits perfectly over the drill.Apparently Makita is a top brand name in hardware/construction and when my husband saw this drill set- he got excited. Its all for a great price, especially when some other brands sell just the drill (no battery or charger) for the same price or more.

After a reasonable amount of research online, I decided on this little power tool. Having sworn I'd never ever buy a cordless drill again after an experience with a pathetic Black & Decker specimen which I'd bought for $40, I settled on this tool to install a railing system in my garage. My primary requirements were quality, price, and hammer drill function as I was fastening garage organizer rails to concrete. The B&D drill, when pushed, would probably last about 20 mins, but then it would take about 5 hours to recharge. This little tool was the antithesis of my previous experience - you get what you pay for. It's a beast! I brutalized this drill for a solid 2-3 hours at a time - both drilling holes and tightening screw anchors. Eventually you could feel the tool start to take strain, but the battery would charge in about 25 minutes - incredible!You can probably tell I'm a weekend warrior and no tradesman. You will probably find more impressive tools in the Boche and Dewalt ranges, but I challenge you to find them at this price point - $99 at time of purchase. It's great that it comes in a really functional case.I have to say initially that I thought I'd made a blunder with this tool, as I was having problems drilling holes into the concrete in hammer function. I'd thought maybe it was under-powered at 3.0Ah. Some of the comparative Boche and Dewalt tools are 7.0Ah (twice the price though, and no case). My solution was to buy a corded hammer drill (7.0Ah). I used it for approximately 1 minute then packed it up and sent it back. The reason - with my garage door down, the sound was absolutely deafening, plus it didn't show any improvement in functionality. The culprit I discovered was the drill bits - they would only last about one or two holes. Ultimately, I spent a fortune in drill bits - must have used about 45. Luckily I have a tech savvy neighbor (a Toolmaker) - who sharpened some for me and saved me having to buy more.All-in-all, this drill worked liked a Trojan. Makita, I am a new fan - very impressed. Lesson learned - buy quality, even for home DIY - you'll only need to buy the right tool once (hopefully).

This will not be a very technical review: This is EVERYTHING you'd want in a cordless drill. It drills, screws, and hammer-drills. It has a bright work area light. It has a 2 speed gear box. Its Lithium-ion powered for lighter weight and faster charging (30 min.). It is 18v. for tons of power. It came with a case, battery and charger for less $$$ than many that are drill alone. And it is a Makita. My last Makita (7.2 v) died after over 20 years... may she rest in piece. What a deal for the drill and the 1830 battery! I did not need the charger or the battery as I have a large quiver of Makita 18V Lithium Ion tools and have a half dozen batteries and a charger. I bought it for the convenience of a cordless hammer drill. I have a Makita HR2475 corded hammer drill and it is a fantastic hammer drill, but I do not like to bust it out and plug it in for one or two holes which is common in my line of work.I used this tool for the first time last week and it drilled right through block for me to set a J-Box with Tapcon Screws.. Based on my experience with my Makita 18v LI impact Driver & Standard Drill (not Hammer) Combo which I have used and abused for 6+ years (still running strong), this should last for a decade or longer. I learned a hard lesson when trying to mix mortar with my standard Makita 18V LI drill a long time ago. The lesson: don't try to mix mortar with a cordless drill, doing so will result in a high probability of turning your battery into a paper weight. Thanks for another awesome tool Makita!

First drill I bought in 15 years. Why did I wait so long? I am a casual tool box guy. Use a power drill 10 - 12 times a year. Spoke with the Makita reps at the Hardware Show last year. They told me to get this model and it will do everything I will ever need a home power tool for. They were right.

I've used it for everything from driving 3" deck screws, to installing kitchen cabinets, and it works great. So much better at driving long fasteners than a drill/driver, and the number of fasteners it will drive on a single charge is truly amazing. I love it. Plus, the battery charges super-fast, and is interchangeable with the ones for my Makita XFD01RW 18V Compact 1/2-Inch Driver-Drill Kit (or any other Makita 18V Li-Ion tool, for that matter), so no worries about ever running out of charge and having to wait. Also, I'd highly recommend getting the Makita T-01373 38 Piece Impact Drill-Driver Bit Set at the same time.

Smokin deal !!! All I needed was an extra battery I've already got the full set. Now for about the same price I've got an extra impact drill and charger. If you look at the white makita set that usually runs $179-220 it comes with 2 half size batteries. This comes with 1 battery that has as much power as the other two combined and it's about half the price.

Great price. This is the second one I bought. I use it every day for business. If it was not a good tool I would have bought something else

Absolutely fantastic impact driver. Plenty of power for all sorts of tasks. I use it for household and woodshop work, and I've yet to find a fastener it can't handle, this includes coarse 3" deck screws, though I don't think it could handle much larger (nor could my other cordless drills or drivers)At this price, it beats out any of the 12v Bosch stuff, and is much cheaper.

Gave this to my husband as a gift as a replacement for other brands. He has had it for a couple years now. It works as expected, with no problems. However it is not used in a trade/business. I do not know how it would perform if used daily in a trade/business.

All good so far. The second I got it my dad wanted to try it out and complained the torque was so low he could hold on to the drill at full speed, I charged up the battery and handed it back and it instantly ripped away from his hand. Not much of a review but hey it was funny. Even made him shake his head when the charger played Beethoven to tell me the battery was done charging.The case is a little shoddy compared to others in the Makita line, I got a bit set to match and the case for that is like a brick the molded plastic is so thick. The drill case makes me think I'll be walking with it and the handle will fall off, the pin for one of the hinges on the bottom was even sticking out on arrival and I had to pop it back in.

This is a powerful cordless drill. It takes a bit of practice to get used to the added torque and use the hammerfeature of the drill effectively, but in a tough job you need every advantage to make the work easier. Now thisparticular cordless drill isn't like the Makita brushless motors with 1,100 inch lbs of torque, but it is very usablefor a pro or a serious weekend DIYer. Can easily be used on a deck, trellis or fencing job.

This does work great. My only caution is the chuck grip can easily burn your hand as the grip texture it too fine. Slips when tightening or unlocking the chuck.Love the light and tension settings

This Makita has been with me on the field for 6 months, (Maintenence Tech/ HVAC Tech). It's an awesome drill powerful, light weight, battery charges very quickly. The only thing that is missing is a battery fuel gauge to see how much juice the battery has left.

Good drill as far as getting the job done. It is a little cheapy on the exterior though. By my fourth use, the front plastic piece snapped and came off and now my drill looks kinda dumb. Doesn't affect the functionality, but I can't quite say it's a five star item for this reason. Months after regular occasional use it still works like day 1.

Heats up quickly, but gets the job done. I love how quickly the battery charges too.

I would recommend this product. The price is right. Still holding up. Works good. i could not live without it. 30 plus years as carpenter.

I'd really like a second battery, although the one I got lasted longer than expected. Very intrigued with the other products Makita offers. This driver works great! I'm excited to purchase more tools.

I purchased this to replace an old 20v DeWALT because I didn't want to spend the money on a replacement DeWalt 20v battery. This Mikita works okay, but does not have the torque as my old DeWalt. I usually grab the Mikita first because it is lighter, but when I know it may stall from not having enough torque the DeWalt is my old reliable go-to. If I had to purchase again would have to go,with the DeWalt brand with a lighter weight lithium ion battery.

It's okay, but not sufficient for concrete slab drilling in bathroom by the toilet flange. It's supposed to be a hammer drill, but I don't feel much hammering effect when on max torque and in hammer position on the dial. I'm using Bosch drill bits, carbide tipped, and was only able to go down about one inch in each of the four holes I'm drilling. I will keep this drill but have ordered another Makita drill HR2475, which has BETTER REVIEWS for concrete work. I've ordered a set of five (3/16") SDS Standard Masonry Bits, and will leave feedback on my HR2475 and the SDS Drill Bits separately, but verbiage will be the same. The solo Review for the SDS bits was like "going through butter."....with the HR2475 using the SDS drill bits.....we shall see. Meanwhile, I'm keeping this Makita XPH012 for other home projects and expect it will do well, but I do NOT recommend it for concrete. Footnote, the two Bosch drill bits I used do NOT appear to be 'rounded out' but will not go any deeper using XXPH012. I welcome your comments.

Don't expect the hammer drill feature to be as good a a dedicated hammer drill. I hardly noticed a difference on the hammer setting.

This product was DOA (never powered ON). One star to Makita. Amazon replaced this item promptly - five stars.Overall, 3 stars. This product does the job right and easy to work with. The light is not that useful (as it creates huge shadow right on the point of drilling ;)

Wobbly chuck, a little heavy, and no bit holder... It's a Makita though. Great drill other than that. Tons of power and torque.

this was a gift for my son-in-law who lives on the west coast, so I've never found out how well he liked it.

I Like It!

Not sure how long the batteries are supposed to last but mine only made it a year and a half. The drill itself works fine. I've used it for light duty a handful of times. The battery spent most the time on the charger. It is now dead. I see the replacement batteries are over $80, more than half of what I paid for the whole thing. This is worse than having to buy toner for a printer, being totally gouged on the replacement toner. In this cased gouged for the replacement battery.

Bought this in April 2016, as of yesterday, the motor fried in it! Makita has always been our tool of choice, but the endurance of this one is very disappointing!

Nice drill, not very effective as a hammer drill.

It stopped working yesterday, almost a year since I purchased it! It stopped suddenly, while I was doing some light work. No burning smell or any warnings. It just quit.

Drill works very well. Batteries are expensive and don't last. The Makita design makes one weak cell in the battery trigger the faulty battery circuit and then they will not charge. Batteries are expensive for such short life. I have a lot of these tools and batteries. I also have many 7.2, 9,12, and 18 volt Makita tools with batteries 15 years old and they still work. Not these lemons.Until Makita sorts out the $100 battery only lasting 5 months issue I wouldn't recommend the Makita 18 volt lithium stuff to anyone.

Well-designed and powerful device, yet rendered nearly useless by excessive chuck wobble which makes any precise drill-work a futile effort.

Couldn't drive a screw into predrilled wood.

90 days and the driver no longer works. Tried to put in a screw and it spins internally without driving the bit. Great. It's not like I tried to drive a 10 inch screw. We're talking a 2 1/2 inch screw into a pine 2x4! I thought this was the greatest tool I owned until two days ago. Don't waste your time. Now I have to see what Makita will do for me.

I have not used this tool yet because it came with no drill bits or driver heads! Makes it hard to use when you can do nothing beyond charge the battery without making another purchase.

Great drill! However, this drill is too expensive to be considered a deal. For one whole Benjamin, this drill is not even on sale by 1%. The original list price is incorrect or from 10 years ago. Do your research before you buy!

Bought this drill in June of 2015 and had to replace it under warranty within months. That required me to drive 25 miles each way to an "authorized" dealer. They I got to go back and pick up a replacement about 10 days later. Now that drill is dead. Understand that I live in a high-rise condo and use the drill for attaching bookcases to the wall, as an electric screw-driver and other light work. Based on my experience, don't buy this Makita drill.

the batery no charge, is bad

Used it 3 times. The first two were so screw and unscrew my head unit in my car. The third was to spin a grain crusher (on a ball bearing, it spun easily) and the drill started to smoke from the vents as if something were melting. The drill wasn't being pushed hard at all and was run continuous for maybe 30 seconds. I won't purchase another Makita product again.

Very disappointing. I bought this drill in January 2016. I am a casual user, as I am just doing projects around my house and slowly remodeling room by room. I used the drill for less than a month on the original charge. The first time I ever attempted to charge the battery, I gotten red/green flashing light. After reading multiple reviews ( the bad ones are hidden from the main feedback page) it sounds like this is a pretty common problem. And after reading multiple reviews about dealing with Makita and their warranty program, I think I will just scrap this drill and buy another brand.

I purchased two of these. They seemed like such a good price and I could share this battery with my new Makita XMT03Z multi tool. When one battery was registering as defective on the charger, I tried the other battery and charger. Both batteries would not charge, according to the lights on the charger. The directions said, "defective battery." What are the chances?

I have all Makita cordless tools and I purchased this because my old batteries have failed. In just over 3 months this battery is now bad and I can't find a way to return or show it defective to replace. I hope someone response to this.

Plastic cover protecting the front was loose and disconected at the first hour.

The one pictured is the one I wanted... Mine does not stand and that is a real nuisance... the chuck does not hold the drill bit... terrible product...

We are very disappointed with this item. Normally we have great luck with Amazon, but we ordered this as a gift for our son. It worked fine until it needed to be recharged then would not hold a charge. Will not work. Very disappointing!
