Side by Side Comparison of: Nine West vs Traveler's Choice

This is a beautiful. Sturdy set. I bought it for my daughter as a graduation gift, she graduated from junior college and was on her way to George Washington university in DC. She has been to Israel with this set lugging it to 4 different hotels, she has been to Atlanta, Texas and NYC with it. It has held up wonderfully. It has been 8 months since the purchase, it still looks new. My daughter loves the color and style. The price was a shocker, I thought it was going to be flimsy, but to my surprise, I was wrong. I am happy I took the chance, and bought this set.
UPDATE : July will be 1 year since I purchased this set. The Larger luggage, the wheels are busted, my daughter can still wheel it, but it doesn't work as well as before. The other smaller ones are in great shape. She has traveled alot in less than a year, so I guess it's to be expected. Other than that, no complaints and my daughter is still happy with the purchase.

This luggage is very cute and worth the price! It looks great in person and is sturdy enough. The pieces are a lot bigger than I expected them to be (but than again I didn't pay attention to the measurements). I honestly felt like I won with this purchase. Can't wait to show it off on my next vacation. I hope it can withstand the test of being thrown away on the airport luggage conveyor belt, we shall see lol.

I was very hesitant after I purchased this having gone through and read all the negative reviews. A few people said that the bags weren't sturdy/good quality and that they weren't really Nine West. Well, I was very anxiously awaiting the arrival of my bags, worried I would have to send them back, but I really shouldn't have been. This is a very nice luggage set. It came complete with the original tags from Nine West (Original price well over $300). So I have no doubt that these are original. The craftmanship is good and the quality sturdy. The handles on the carryon are long so you don't have to worry about bending over when pulling these suit cases, which is nice because some of the smaller suitcases I was looking at didn't have long handles. I've used the carry-on case and the carry-on duffle and cosmetic bag so far and with great success. They DO have the extra 2" of space if you want to use it which I did on my trip back home and it worked great(other negative reviews had said they lied about the 2" of extra space). I have no negative things to say about these bags. I'm excited to use them again. I only wish I had another trip coming up soon.

I bought this distinctive set of Nine West luggage about 6 weeks ago and couldn't be happier! Already I have taken the suitcases on two international flights with multiple connections, as well as a cross-country road trip, and the bags are still as good as new. My favorite piece of the set is the surprisingly roomy carry-on "rolling bowler" duffel bag with wheels that you can either tote by the big looped handles or wheel along vertically with the telescoping handle. I've been a world traveler for three decades now, and I think this Nine West duffel bag might become my favorite piece of luggage ever.

Satisfaction is subjective: One reviewer commented that this set was smaller than she/he expected ... I found the suitcases bigger than expected! Another reviewer said that a downside of this set was the weird bluish-green color, but that weird shade is called "teal," as the set was advertised. Teal is my favorite color and was a big incentive for my purchase.

Airport perk of this luggage: The distinctive teal shade of the suitcases with their brown leather trim really sets you apart and will keep you from mixing up your bags with anybody else's (or vice versa) at the baggage carousel.

Another airport observation: I have noticed that some airports have Nine West shops catering to fashionable women's shoes and handbags. Although I'm a guy and not in the market for those items, I proudly wheeled my Nine West luggage by their shops. These bags are not "rugged" by any means, but they have an elegant unisex look that many travelers will enjoy. Glad I got these at a big discount at Amazon.

The color is vibrant and the construction is very sturdy. This is my second set of this set, I bought this set for my kids to share when we go on vacation. It is easy for them to pull the luggage on their own. (they are 11 and 13) It is a well made set and at a great price.

Great value. This is the second set that I am getting, as I needed some additional suitcases. It is not heavy duty but it serves the purpose and holds well for a regular traveler. The old set is still good after 4 years--and I've been carrying books and whatnot. One of the handles on the old set did fall off, but the wheels are holding incredibly well and there are no tears or breaks (and yes, I overfill them often). I also like the versatility of combinations accommodating all the baggage needs from 3 months overseas to day trips.

Update 1/26/16 - So I have done a full airport travel with this luggage now and must say I am still pleased. I have used the duffle bag a few times for small road trips as well as the airport carry on bag and one of the threads is already coming lose in the stitching which I am surprised by. I am keeping an eye on it make sure nothing else happens. They will be used again May 2016 for another big airport travel.

I just received these yesterday and couldn't be more pleased! They are beautiful to began with and they are very roomie with having the expansion part. I can not wait to travel in December with my new luggage! It will be styling at the airport with my roller duffle bag! Couldn't be happier with this purchase!

I bought this last minute for a trip to Europe. I purchased the 'teal' collection (which you will see has different bag options than the black collection). I like the duffel bag with rolling wheels; it makes an excellent carry-on for shorter trips. For a longer trip like the one that I'm currently on (I'm writing this in a Lufthansa lounge in Frankfurt, Hallo, Leute!), I recommend the carry-on + rolling duffel. I can imagine using the large case one day, but not when I'm on a multi-city trip. I hate checking bags.

Three complaints: (1) the color of this 'teal' collection is decidedly ambiguous. Is it green? is it blue? depend on the lighting. (2) I love the look and design with the leather detail, etc., but as a guy I have to say that the shape of the duffel bag and the design of the handles make it look like a large women's purse. Not sure how I feel about this yet. (3) The wheels on the carry-on are a little stiff, but maybe they just need to be broken in.

I took these on a round trip vacation to Japan, and let me tell you they were much sturdier than I was expecting. I drug these suitcases all over the place - No one told me it was a 30 minute WALK from the airport to my host family's house. Along roads and through gravel, these guys held up. When our group moved to a house at a university, it was a couple of train rides and more walking walking walking. Through more gravel and up and down hills. I'll admit the bottom of the big suitcase looks a little worn out now, but no busting through, no broken zippers, and no wheels falling off. My ONLY complain would be that the wheels are so small, you can get hung up on bumpy terrain, but I think my situation as not the norm. Bigger wheels would have also compensated for it becoming a bit top heavy when full. All in all though, pretty impressed.

I'm just in love with this set, they are simply designed, classy, stylish and convenient but I'm very disturbed by a warning I've read on one of the labels, that reads:
"This product contains chemicals known to the State of California to cause CANCER & or BIRTH DEFECTS or other REPRODUCTIVE harm."
Have I know this before it certainly would have an effect on my decision to buy this product, though I adore them now. I think it's very unfair to us customers not being able to learn of this warning before purchase, so sorry but I'm thinking of showing this label warning to my lawyer. Will someone please answer me and let me know what chemicals are in this product. My daughter is a scientist/ Chemist.

I believe in investing in good luggage because it will benefit you in the long run. However, I needed to find something quick and I didn't want to waist money since I hadn't found anything to replace my previous set.

Pros: sufficient storage and expandable, great value for the price, shipping was fast. I have prime and the package arrived 2 days later. Held up through the beating from the car-shuttle-airport-shuttle-hotel-shuttle-cruise-shuttle-airport-shuttle-car. That was a lot of beating in a 10 day period. The 28" was packed to capacity, 20" still had a little room. The luggage was in great condition from the beating it took.

Cons: the bags constantly topple over if you pack to medium or higher capacity. The color is weird and looks like a navy but is more like a greenish blue color. If you have a fear of someone breaking into your bag, don't choose this one as the material is not very thick and career thieves know the zipper trick. Note: The zipper trick applies to most fabric luggage.

All in all the set works and comes with everything you need. For someone who spends a few thousand on a nice, safe set of luggage and travels a lot. I was really impressed. Based on the price, quantity, style and quality, the pros outweigh the cons. I think I may buy a few for Christmas presents. Hope this helps!!

Great luggage but airlines are rough with them.

Ordered these as our first set of luggage. Price was good for something we use one week a year. Very happy with them.

We purchased this set before the holidays just so that we can use them on our trip to the 10-day Caribbean cruise. We used the biggest one + the mid-size one. We gave up on using the smaller one where you should be able to hand carry on the plane, and the reason is that we compared it to another luggage piece we had and that one is about an inch bigger than this one. The inch made a big difference in fitting two pieces of medical equipment in there just right.

The zippers are easy to use, and the luggage itself is durable. We packed a lot of stuff in there and all the handles held fine. Our luggage was tossed around a lot when we got to the airport (it was lost at one point at a different airport) and we know they toss luggages on the cruise ship too. Both pieces held up just great!

This is a great price for such a durable set!

My wife and I have only used the luggage once so far and here is what my thoughts are...

We got the red color and they really do look nice! The red color is easy to spot and the black and gray pull it together. The fabric is thick but it does stain easy...unfortunately when your luggage is being thrown in and out of a place this is probably going to happen. So I don't think this is something that should be blamed on the actual luggage. You might consider buying stuff to spray on the luggage and could make it more stain resistant if this is something you are worried about. The handles are a little wobbly but it's not bad and they didn't break (yet) will be going on a another trip soon and will update this review. The smallest carry on made the 2nd smallest look big and the airline people kept telling me that I had to check it in. I don't know if other people were having this problem or not but it's only about an inch wider than what they say you can have. No zippers or anything broke on any of our suitcases and we used 3 smallest bags. I think that for the price it's great luggage some websites are selling this set for much more and it was also delivered very fast!

Package arrived a bit dinged-up but nothing to cause concern to the actual product. The red set is black in the back and the red is only on the front, a shade more subdued, and grey mesh-styled piping... not black! I inspected the seams for issues other buyers mentioned in their review and found they all had loose thread ends on just about all of the cases. Mind you not unravelling, just messy workmanship.

Weight in order of size : 10-lbs; 6-lbs; 8-lbs. The carry on is 2 lbs heavier than the medium.

The red cases look really nice and will be easy to spot among the crowd. They are deep and contain nice compartments.

I will be using for overseas trip in summer. Will then.

Update:

Travelled with two of pieces and oh boy, i loved the depth of the cases. The bands to hold the content inside together worked so well. No major shifting of my clothes , and the sizes are compliant with air travel. No measuring by airline agent was required. The rec did get visible scruff marks on the trip, but the way luggage is handled , meh!

As a whole this collection is mostly good. The bag I use the most is the second largest and it is not standing the tests of time. The internal frame has come back to me bent (twice). The wheels are too small and the back ones have very worn down frames from my short (5'2") self dragging it all across the world. It also refuses to stand up on its on and enjoys doing faceplants often. I can say that the zippers seem to be of quality and have had no issues there, which is short of a luggage miracle. Good for those who travel less often (like 2X per year).

3 stars because 5 pieces for $109. The large roller bag: on it's second use, the cab driver pulled my bag out of the trunk by the top handle and it broke; the "fastener" on one side broke and popped out so the handle is just attatched by the one side hanging there. Yes, my bag weighed in at 48.9 pounds but the first time I used it, it weighed in around 68 pounds, so there you have it. Did my cabbie use a little too much force? Maybe, but more likely its just cheap materials. The smaller roller bag: on it's first use, one of the wheels spilt in half lengthwise somewhere between checking the bag and getting it back from baggage claim. It can still be rolled, but it's wonky. I havent used the rolling duffel bag yet, and the other 2 items are still going strong... Not that they've been put through the ringer at all. If you are looking for something to stand up to baggage handlers and overzealous cab drivers, this probably isnt the way to go, but again, for the price, you will most likely get your use out of them either way.

Looks great in pics, but actually feels and functions like a cheap set of luggage. Nice color, though. The handles are plastic and the material looks like a mix between plastic and canvas...just not so hot. They tip over with the slightest touch.

Still a steal of a deal for the price...I use the rolling tote and small totes frequently. I imagine that the two suitcases will be broken with a few trips to baggage claim...the carry on survived two trips so far.

Just received this luggage. I was super excited to receive it because it appeared to be a sapphire blue color in the photo. When I saw that the description listed it as teal, I was happy because I figured it would be some firm of blue, so winner either way. This is not blue. This so close to hunter green, I can picture it sitting next to a roaring fireplace inside the den of a lodge! I am not sure who would name this color teal, but ,whoever they are, they are confused. Just thought I would let you all know.
I gave three stars because the construction and feel of the luggage is great. The color was the only bummer, but that is personal preference.

The luggage is beautiful and is a great value for the price I got it through Amazon. HOWEVER....the wheels are HORRIBLE! They don't roll at all and you practically get a hernia dragging the largest one around. I almost returned the set, but decided not to hassle with it. It's just unfortunate because everything else about the set is great.

very cheap. one cruise and one flight later they are about worn out. we will have to replace them before our next trip. mental note......just spend the money and buy real luggage next time....

Wow, these are tiny. Two of them are actually carry-ons (the 21" and the tote). I compared the large one to my large "old" suitcase (from 2010 - Kenneth Cole) and the largest of these guys inside a normal large suitcase. I would hesitate to say there is even a "large" here. The biggest one is very narrow... they all are.

You get what you pay for and I wish I knew exactly how small these were before ordering. I asked the largest would be the same as the largest suitcase in a normal luggage set. It's not.

I would recommend this for a couple, perhaps with one child. There's no way it would accommodate a family of four for a 1-week trip even to someone warm that doesn't require heavy clothes.

As to the quality- they look nice enough. The red is never than in the photo-a dark re, but not quite burgundy. Not garish as I was afraid it would be. The interior is basically nice. No frills. Comes with a lock and two keys on each except the "carry-on". The pull handle has two stops for kids or adults. My kids are happy with them and unfortunately this set is suitable pretty much only got my the children excluding us parents...

They arrived nested. The 21" really is for the overhead bin. Looks like a good deal, but it's not much space at all. I wish I had compared cubic inches or something first. Unfortunately, no time to exchange.

Color and size are good ... Handles for medium suitcase came off after couple of uses ,wont last long with regular usage

This is a set of luggage I would buy for a young teenager. The luggage is very nice LOOKING. They simply served a purpose, I used them only once, when traveling on the airplane. They didn't do so well going through the airport, and didn't look the best after getting back home. I am ashamed to take them with me any other flying trip. They would be good to take on a quick car trip, when you can hide them in the trunk.

I bought this luggage set in April but did not get to use it until one month later. When the luggage arrived, I was ecstatic because the design was really appealing. One month later I started my first vacation and I decided to use the largest piece with the carry one and the travel bag. The travel bag is very convenient, especially as the front flaps allows for easy access to travel documents and other small items. The largest piece of luggage survived the first two airport experiences, however, the third leg of my journey entailed a long coach ride from one country to another and it was then that my ecstasy turned to dismay. By the middle of the coach journey, I discovered that the handles were ripping off, steel braces and all, and on arrival at my destination by coach, one handle is now hanging by a thread and the other one beginning to tear. Unfortunately, I cannot return to the manufacturer because they are not responsible for airline/other damage, so while I am generally pleased with the appearance of the luggage, I am rather dissatisfied that my largest piece did not even complete my first trip. I am not yet back in my home country and with two more airline experience to go, I am absolutely sure that I'd be straining to life my "no-handle" luggage all the way home. No telling at this point, how the other unused piece would stand up. I know that the luggage did not cost a fortune but it was not the cheapest either. In fact, the price I would say was comparable to similar luggage sets from other manufacturers and I thing that "US Traveler New Yorker" should have given me something durable for my money's worth.

I bought this set in September 2016. I have been on approximately 8 plane rides since then and the smallestest rolling bag zipper and wheel broke and the medium rolling bag zipper busted and is not usable anymore. This was all in all not worth the money at all. These are not quality/longevity pieces. Very unhappy that I now have to purchase a whole new set because who lugs around the huge gigantic bag (which is the only one that is still working) I would give it one star BUT if you are only looking to use this for 1-4 trips and like the style go for it! Just beware this set will not last the test of time or being thrown around in baggage! :-)

This luggage fell apart with the first use. One bag ripped, a label fell off, and the main handle got jammed on another bag. All of this after one flight. It's inexpensive for a reason.

Look great but these are flimsy and will not last long. I took to New York with me and after one trip they are dinged up and the shape doesn't hold. Also, the wheels aren't large enough or separated from the bag enough, so when you roll slanted the base of the luggage catches the floor.

Bags don't remain upright, large suitcase doesn't have a handle on the bottom to lift when fully packed, so it's difficult. We used this set twice when traveling out of state via car (so not handled by the airlines - I don't think it's hold up to that) - Nine West nameplate popped off large case, fabric looks worn and as I stated cases don't stay upright- this set was a waste of money, it's basically a disposable set...spend your money elsewhere on a set actually meant for travel.. 2 stars because it is attractive.

My daughter loves this luggage. She is constantly staying with friends overnight and there is a piece of luggage for every occasion. You will not be disappointed UNLESS you take it on a trip to Europe. The largest piece is not user friendly at all. My son took it on a 2 week trip around Germany and he said pulling the largest bag was like towing a dead body around with a handle. The wheels are too deeply set into the luggage and might as well be nonexistent. The strap handle broke loose in Munich. The bottom fabric ripped loose n Stuttgart. This luggage is not meant to be towed around or treated rough. It's ok for little easy trips but not strong enough to sustain constant use. If you travel a lot, go with a Samsonite spinner series...it's built for world and airport travel.

Like many other buyers had stated, the handles are cheap. I had purchased one for my daughter and one for myself for our trip . Since the shipment came later than expected, we were packing the night before. I did not notice the handle on her largest luggage did not function at all. Trying to navigate through 3 different airports with 6 bags and the largest one without a handle was difficult, to say the least . It was quite frustrating and a hassle. I will spend a little more next time and get better quality luggage

We originally purchased this set on October of 2012.Something went wrong with one of the pieces and Amazon replaced it in August of 2013.We use this set about one or two times a year-in other words-not a lot.We like quite a bit about the set such as how they nest together so storage room is minimized.
However during our last trip 2 of the pieces developed problems.On the larger piece an inside zipper pull came off.On the next size down the handle will not come out more than an inch-of course this started on day one of our 10 day trip.
If we had been frequent travelers I might feel a tad better.Or if half our trips weren't road trips(airports certainly can stress things out.)
The set does come with a 5 year warranty.However there are several hoops to jump through(hope you kept your receipt!).The company reserves the right to determine what is wear and tear and what isn't.(Wear and tear isn't covered-like the wheels falling off.)We will see if they cover our problems and update accordingly.

On one flight..the entire from cover for the outside pockets ripped open on one of our bags. The midsized bag to be specific. Zippers kept getting stuck and the rolling handle didn't open without bending the bag. Not as sturdy as I thought.

We bought two sets of this luggage for a trip overseas this past week. When we collected our bags after arriving to our destination (Barcelona), the top handle on the largest piece had broken, and several places on several pieces of the luggage had already begun tearing. Even though there is a warranty, since we'll have to pay the S&H, it's unlikely we'll spend the money for additional poor-quality luggage. Next time, we'll go with a more recognized company for our luggage.

On first use, we used 2 of the 4 pieces in this set, and they both broke.

We purchased this set in Nov 2012 to travel to Indonesia in Dec 2012, and we are greatly disappointed by this product. The top carry handle on the 21" (h) piece, the carry-on size one, broke as we were putting it into the taxi on the way to the airport! So before any of the stresses of going through airport handling, we had to lug around a bag with a broken handle for almost three weeks. And like another reviewer stated, the broken handle has a sharp piece of metal on it that you must warn people about when they are handling your bag.

We also brought the largest bag with us to Indonesia. Although the top handle did not break, one of the front zippers did. This could have been due to airport handling, especially since our bags were heavily scuffed up, but it's disheartening nonetheless to see both our bags break in some way on our first trip with them.

You might be saying that our case is a one-off case since there are many glowing reviews on this product. But I urge you to see how many other reviewers had similar problems concerning the handles breaking off. We regret not thoroughly reading all the reviews here and merely trusting the 4- and 5-star ones.

Also, the Travelers Choice warranty process is far from simple or expedient and they "do not offer refunds to any defective items." Luckily, Amazon is allowing us to ship back this product for a full refund.

As good as the price is for this product, I just can't recommend a luggage product that broke on first use. DO NOT buy.

I highly recommend NOT buying this luggage set. After my very first trip, one of the wheels broke. On the second trip, the entire frame of the large luggage piece bent completely and became dented in a number of spots. the "nine west" metal labels have all fallen off and these things do NOT roll easily - they are a major chore to roll through the airport, even on the slickest ground/surface. I wish I had not wasted my money on this luggage and have had to junk it all except for the duffel bag which I still occasionally use (not for plane travel). :(

Ordered this set in June and have only used it a few times. Two of the four pieces have already failed. On one, the zipper broke by the third time and on the larger suitcase the wheel broke by the second use. I have had many luggage sets over the years and this, by far, is the worst quality. Don't waste your money and buy this set that won't last through half a dozen uses. I'm gong to have to buy another set now and that's after only having this set for less than 6 months.

I have used only the 28" spinner and the 20" spinner only once for an international trip and the handle of the 28" spinner refuse to eject. I am not seeing any options to return and I am abroad studying and will need to purchase another suitcase when I have to return home. This experience has been disappointing and there has been no avenues for any redress. I have had to struggle through airports and fummble through metros. Truly an unsatisfied customer.

I had really, really high hopes for these bags, and when they arrived, they looked fine so I packed up my NYC apt and made my way to the airport to move to Dallas, TX. What I realized, mid-journey, is that these bags are not functional at all. The small carry-on doesn't have a handle on the side so, every time I tried to lift up the bag to place it on the overhead storage, I had to grab a wheel or get the help of someone around me to get it up and secure. The largest bag also has a similar problem, there is no place to grab on the bottom of the bag to place into a car, etc. I packed pretty heavily so it was hell trying to transport this around. I'm a 5'6, 130 lb woman, and it was the worst. Unfortunately, I don't think I can return these because I threw out the handbag (as I didn't need it) and have already used the others. Save yourself the money and look elsewhere for good luggage.

CHEAP AND AWFUL! DO NOT BUY! The large piece of luggage broke after the first 2 hours flight I took them on. Both front pockets ripped right down the seams leaving a gaping hole into the bag. Unfortunately, I didn't take this luggage on a trip right away so the return date has already passed. I will never use this brand or seller again! Very disappointed!

For the price this seems great...until all the handles rip off on all three roller bags (never used the small bag). The handles are sewn down and attached to the bag with some metal fasteners in such a way that when the handle fails (detaches on one side) the weight of the bag pulls the handle and mangled metal fastener through your hand which results in a deep, bleeding, gash. Very pleasant experience. Also, just about all the zipper dangely things have come off (not a frequent flyer, just poorly done). Can't recommend.

We bought this because it was a great deal. The large bag did not make the first flight. When we reached our first flight, the roller handle was bent and would not pull out. The top handle came completely off, exposing the metal part of the handle. It was very sharp. When we returned from our trip, the zipper had pulled apart and our stuff was falling out of the bag and onto the luggage carousel at the airport. We complained to our airline company and they gave us a replacement bag. The smallest bag never even went on the airplane and the handle broke. Not impressed with this purchase at all. What looked like a good idea - was not.

I ordered this set in red and when I opened it the luggage looked cute but the large suitcase already had a small hole in the back. Needed to use it 2 days after receiving it. First use the suitcase ripped in 2 places. Used heavy duty tape to keep it together. Looks like a nice set but don't buy it. Made cheap!
